I slowed slightly down on reading due to writing many many words in a mad frenzy lately, but I do still have some recs! My fic rec selection process is just putting a tag in my daily note on obsidian with a link to the fic and my thoughts so I can find them later, and now I'm looking at what I've got and it's like...very evident that I spent some quality time in the whump tag in early May, so. be warned lmao

An Ancient device gives John unexpected (and unwelcome) insight into the relationships of Johns and Rodneys across the multiverse.

I generally enjoy the “John and Rodney in other universes” trope in fics, and this one handled it in a way I haven’t seen before but really enjoyed. I want to say more but I think it’s better to let it unfold without knowing what’s going to go down, so. Some good John!pining, a dash of funny and a heaping helping of feels made this an absolutely delightful read for an evening!

It's been twelve years, and the last person Rodney expected to rescue him from an unexpected kidnapping is John Sheppard.

This is the best kind of bittersweet, quietly devastating, beautifully cathartic angst with a happy ending. Absolutely loved reading it, a+ would cry again. The way time has battered them both, the sadness, and also an absolutely amazingly charged shaving scene!!!! ahhhhhh

On the usual mission-gone-wrong, John and Rodney are hiding in a ruined house. John is hurt and being overly stoic about it as usual and Rodney wants John to admit to being in pain and accept his help. They talk.

This is just absolutely beautiful. I love John's dialogue in this, how stilted he is when trying to open up, it really feels so true to him. And Rodney's inner monologue, how he looks at the problem in his perfectly Rodney way and comes up with just a wonderful solution...so incredibly satisfying to read, so very very comforting.

Request for Stargate Atlantis Requests!

So, claw me open, rearrange my insides brings me to 75 Stargate Atlantis stories posted on my AO3 account. Which seems, strangely enough, not very many, considering I've been in that fandom for nearly 20 years a while.

I'd like to get that number to 100.

With that in mind, I would adore some SGA requests.

I can't guarantee that I'll write every request I get, because sometimes the brain doesn't cooperate. And I don't know when I'll finish this goal. But I will do my very best.

I'll write any combination of John, Rodney, Teyla, and Ronon, and also Lorne. John/Todd, John/Rodney/Todd, and John/Teyla/Todd, Ronon/Elizabeth, Lorne/Elizabeth, and probably quite a few others I haven't thought of! Specific prompts are welcome, but not necessary, and do tell me if there's something you really don't want me to include.

I won't write: Sheppard/Weir, McKay/Keller, or Lorne/Parrish. And I'm unlikely to write deathfic, noncon between my SGA peeps, or extremely sad/traumatic stories. (You can ask, but I doubt I'll be able to go there, because I'm a wimp.)

Oh heck yeah!

1. Describe your comfort zone—a typical you-fic.

So my tried and true formula when it comes to original stuff is “take two characters who are mutually pining for each other, get them stuck somewhere inaccessible all alone, have one of them be just injured enough to wear them down, and see what happens. Oh, and also it’s probably just cold enough to give them an excuse to huddle together for warmth.”

Haven’t tried it out with E! yet (...yet), mostly because my stories usually have magic or sufficiently advanced technology, so I usually have a much broader area of not-too-dangerous-injuries to work with. Humans are fragile lil’ shits if you actually have to more or less stick to medical facts, and I usually like to keep things relatively light-hearted. It’s a delicate balance.

12. Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

Not quite yet, I think - the possibilities seem utterly endless right now, and the more episodes I look at really closely, the more amazing fic opportunities I find. 

(Fun fact: I went back and re-watched Mascot a few days ago, and it finally fully sank in that Johnny subjected himself to an at least 96-hour-shift (24 hours originally, plus 48 while he was trading shifts to avoid taking the dog home, plus 24 when Roy shows up again to his next regular shift), and now I kinda wanna do something with that because I do enjoy writing sleep-deprived Johnny, and I love it when characters are being self-destructive dumbasses)

So, yeah - I’m slowly collecting favorite tropes and situations, but I don’t have a favorite episode for inspiration yet, there’s just too much amazing material in this show.

Rodney McKay had gotten more or less used to exile in the Pegasus Galaxy, working on his own projects while making sure that the star he was monitoring didn't explode and fry up the Alteran's pet whales. But then one day, Radek had to go and make his life more interesting....

The ASR groaned, then heaved itself over onto one hip, turning around so it was mostly facing Rodney. It had dark brown, almost black, hair that was trimmed in a rakish cut, the top spiky like a kitten's after being bathed by its mother. Dark, amused eyebrows arched over curious eyes, and its nose had to have been lifted right off a statue. The lips were its most perfect feature, full and flawlessly bowed, a touch shy of what would have been judged feminine by current fashion magazine standards.

It rubbed a hand over its eyes, then worked its jaw left to right. "Radek definitely owes me that beer," it said.

Rodney gaped. "I'm sorry?"

The thing cocked its head to the side. "For what?"

Favourite time of the year: Autumn for sure. I like witchy weather. Branches waving on trees, leaves turning all sorts of colours before they fly into the air and across the ground. Chill creeping into the air, but the sky staying bright blue. Love it. I always joke that autumn is when I'm at my fullest power.

Comfort foods: Junk junk junk. Pizza pizza pizza!

Do you collect anything: I have a very small collection of watches and not because I particularly like collecting them, but I ended up with some nice pieces because they were in my orbit via a serious collector. I used to collect books, but then downsized the collection and tend to keep only books I'll dip into again. I also really dislike things and finding spaces for things. I'm not a minimalist of any kind, but I'm just not a huge accumulator of stuff.

Favourite drinks: I do like a nice of cup tea

Favorite music artists: Most recently, a lot of BTS, they are my definite current faves. So are those SHINee kids Taemin and Key. I adore Lizzo. I loved Beyonce's latest album. The Cure! Forever faves of course, like MCR, Pulp and Muse.

Current favourite songs: Alien Superstar, Jerusalema (thank you Strictly Come Dancing), Jugni, and this cover of Look What You Made Me Do, and of course the song I am obsessed with at any given time, Fake Love.
