A pussy fairy who offers her pussy to wanders in the forest as a form of relief. One day she encounters a prince who fucks her sensesless and mindless after making out she is left on the ground exhausted, legs speard and pussy leaking with the princes cum. The prince no where to be seen.
The next day she washes herself in the lake where the tentacles entity at the bottom of the lake stirs. Because of the sweet scent of her pussy the tentacles leave behind a sticky honey like Aphrodisiac on her whole body. a tentacle warps around her breasts squeeze them her hard nipples sucked by tentacle suckers, pussy fucked and filled with tentacle cum she is fucked out of her mind cause of the tentacles. Left to float on top of the water after the entity is done.
The forest nymph then fucks her mindless.
A hunter is tasked with bringing her back to the queen but the fairy looks so tempting he fucks her so good she passes out then he takes her to the queen who then turns her into a sex slave of the entire court
Can you write on it?
Woa, this was so much fun to read! The wandering tales of a sexy sexy fairy who tempts any wanderer in her forest, promising them a good time. Many townspeople warn passerby's who wish to come to her wood that they will not leave the same as they came. Our rakish prince, hears the tales, expecting to come across a monster, but deals with a lovely needy fae instead.
He comes back to the woods often, as no lady of the court can satisfy him like her magic can, only to find that she has been stolen by another court. Will he come to her (unneeded) rescue? If he does he will find her quite welcoming, legs spread just for him, but unchanging in her decision to stay with her court.
Turns out the debaucherous behaviors of the nobles here suit her just fine. After all, fertility is one of her domains. A Faery is so needy, because as they pump inside her, or lap up her sweet juices, she is feeding off of their need. Sometimes, for entertainment, the Queen brings in monsters and beastmen of varying sizes and shapes, to have their way with her little plaything. The Faery always takes it greedily, her moans a pleasant music that can be heard by the guards out by the gates.
The flowers grow even in winter here, as our faery is constantly sated and happy in her role. Eventually, it is learned by the Queen that drinking from her little fae toy can help boost the fertility of a mans seed or a woman's womb. People travel from kingdoms over, begging the Queen for a chance to fuck her little magic fairy.
I loved this, but I got to admit that when it comes to smut I have to either sandwich it with fluff, comedy, or world building. It's a weird quirk of mine.

Okay okay okay, the girlies are in their Nezriel bags so I have to add a little something to the convo but I'm also too lazy and inconsistent busy to actually write another fic
[Nezriel quick fic idea thingy]
*very heavily based on Archangel's Storm by Nalini Singh (cause sjm took HEAVY👀 inspiration for Azriel from Jason so why not)
During MAF Azriel is somehow failing at infiltrating the mortal Queens lesbian love castle from which they rule the continent and Papa A is miraculously healed by the power of money or something
So what if instead, Nesta had taken over the family business with Tamlin's capital and because her father was still receiving treatment and therapy, it was Nesta who would have to make the trip to the continent.
Ever the opportunists, the IC want to use Nesta to infiltrate the queen's castle
Obv they suggest Cassian because they're all stupid and Nesta's like "I've told you multiple times I don't wanna work with this man, please get him away from me"
so they see some reason and figure that as the spymaster Azriel would be best. Also cause he can glamour his wings with his shadows or something so while they're outside of the castle's barrier and Nesta is going about her business, he can act like a bodyguard
Anyways something something Nesta's weird latent powers dull the wards on the room she is given in the castle so Azriel can sneak in but only to see her and get her reports
Azriel being the only one to see her sleepy and with her hair down. Nesta getting more and more comfortable.
Her first time flying not being a traumatic bullying moment. The first Fae male she really gets to know not literally being "unable to control" himself and violating her boundaries and making her assault about himself. Almost like just the bare minimum is leagues ahead of what we got.
Anyways then stealing all acowar n.essian moments for team blue 💙

I have an idea, but it might just be me being tired rn, so be warned that this may be fucking stupid-
So, I’ve been thinking about Amelia and her affinity to old magic and her body’s weird reaction to overblot stones and overblots in general. And how for it to really make sense for her to have those abilities, she wouldn’t be human; at least not pure human.
So I’ve been thinking about Amelia having her grandmother being from Twisted-Wonderland, specifically a fae from Briar Valley and an old friend to Meleanor, Lilia, Divian, and Baul, and how she possibly left to the magicless world Amelia is from because she was being persecuted and outcasted for her body’s strange way with magic. Like, she was around until the one year anniversary of Lilia and Divian becoming practically Mealodie and Malleus’s adoptive parents and she up and disappeared without a trace so she could have a peaceful life.
Grandma Yuu lives alone for a while until she meets a human, falls for him, and has a half fae son about 120 years after she left Twisted-Wonderland. And about 25 years after that, Amelia is born; three quarters human, one quarter fae. Grandma Yuu loves Amelia since she’s basically her “mini me” and tells her stories when she’s a little girl, never disclosing that they were about her old life in Twisted-Wonderland, she sings to her, and takes her and Papa Yuu out to pick peaches since it’s basically a trait from Grandma Yuu to LOVE peaches.
Grandma Yuu finds Amelia’s mostly human traits lovely, but can’t help but notice the small fae features that she has. Slightly slitted pupils, sharp teeth just like hers, and her strange affinity towards something chaotic (specifically fire).
I’ve mostly been thinking about this because I’m imagining Lilia, Divian, and Baul all having a strange sense of déjà vu whenever they first meet Amelia and witness her interacting with others.
She and Sebek bicker and banter like Grandma Yuu and Baul used to. Amelia gossips with Lilia in an all too familiar way to how her grandmother did. She offers Divian peaches whenever she brings some over to Diasomnia to share, much like how her grandmother always offered her peach desserts to anyone around.
But the biggest hit to home is when Amelia meets Maleficia because Mealodie and Malleus told her that she could stay with them during the prolonged school break. Maleficia is not too happy that her grandchildren have befriended a human and have brought her to Briar Valley to stay as a guest while on a break from school, but the Queen can’t help but feel as though the girl is familiar when her beloved grandbabies introduce her as their first friend that they made all on their own.
The way Amelia stands slightly scrunched to make her look smaller, and the way she looks deeply at Maleficia both terrified of eye contact and of looking away out of both respect and wonder, as Malleus and Mealodie happily introduce her is all too familiar to when Meleanor brought in a stranger from the forest all those years ago. She had much darker hair and longer ears and was clearly not well off given her tattered clothes and the dirt she had smeared on her face and arms, but she looked just like the Amelia girl in front of her. And it didn’t help much that Malleus and Mealodie were wearing the same expression their mother wore when she introduced her strange friend and had asked if she could stay.
And maybe it was being reminded of Meleanor or the memory of that sweet girl that had eventually became the Princess’s handmaiden and most trusted member of the palace staff; either way, Maleficia instantly warmed up to Amelia and simply pat her head with a fond look and said she could stay before excusing herself in order to attend a meeting with the Seven-forsaken Senate.
Of course Baul, Divian, and Lilia (who were watching just in case of a disaster) all stare at Amelia with their mouths agape because even Meleanor wasn’t as gifted in convincing her mother to do something. Sometimes it took her days to get Maleficia to agree to something if it was big or went against one of the Queen’s strong opinions. Sure, she usually caved out of love for her daughter, but it was never THAT easy!
And Malleus and Mealodie were confused because they didn’t expect it to be that easy, either. Sure, Maleficia was softer on them since age and loss had given her an even bigger soft spot for her two precious little grandbabies, but they did expect her to calmly yet firmly deny their request at first before they broke out into negotiating with the Queen. But she’d agreed without their friend needing to even make so much as a peep! She must’ve liked Amelia for some odd reason! Maybe she remembered how they detailed the effort she put into their mostly one sided conversations about gargoyles!
(That wasn’t it, but let the babies believe-)
Eventually, after Amelia had been missing for quite a while, Grandma Yuu would possibly go back to Twisted-Wonderland to try and find her and a whole reunion happens that gives people SO much context as to why Amelia is the way she is and the Diasomnia group a reason why Amelia was so familiar to them-
Btw, Grandma Yuu’s name is Peaches because she was named after her eye color-
I’m pretty sure that this is a really stupid idea, but oh well-

HOFAS Thoughts and Review!
This is also my review on Goodreads. Naturally, this is full of spoilers so proceed with caution!
4 star read!
This was a wild ride from start to finish. I found that you jumped right into the action and it literally didn't stop. The crossover with ACOTAR was very info-dump but I didn't mind since a) I don't remember anything lol and b) we needed to make the connection. I really loved seeing Nesta and Azriel in this different element. Given the timeline between ACOSF and HOFAS being about 3 months, I loved that Azriel and Nesta now know how to fight together and Nesta is so in touch with her powers. I love seeing how their friendship has bloomed.
Bryce is a menace and will forever be one. She's one of Sarah's MCs I relate to the least and therefore needed to warm up to her more. I found that in this book, I could despite a lot of her arrogant moments that will rub people the wrong way. I love Quinlar's love but didn't appreciate that she minimized Hunt's reaction to basically reliving much of his trauma with the first war. I'm glad she apologized and got to the point of understanding him but it left a little meh of a taste. The ending scene where he goes after her had my heart in pieces!! Through love, all is indeed possible and I love they were always with each other through it all.
Bryce basically being the High Lady of Dusk and controlling the land was amazing! I loved seeing those scenes. Saitha being the one to kneel first, declaring her as queen? Loved that. The two fae kings dying an awful death? Fabulously done! Hunt mf Althar removing his own slave halo and then removing Isaiah's while calling out that governor lady on her shit??? ADORE! Jesiba's everything in this book? I salute you, queen! Sabine's death??? The Under-King's death??? Literally had me gasping so much.
Ruhn my love, you will always be the Crown Prince of the Fae and that soundbite will always be on repeat every time I see your name lol.
Ruhn x Lidia's romance fell very flat to me. I love Ruhn and hated everything he had to go through but Lidia's character felt out of left field for me. I expected better/different? We find out out of NOWHERE that she's a mom of twins and suddenly, that's her whole personality. She went from this badass agent to everything being about her kids. There is NOTHING WRONG with her being a mother but why couldn't she be a mother AND care about the cause because it's the right thing to do? This was a missed opportunity in my opinion. I also felt like this was very self-insert of Sarah being a mom to have to include another character having kids. The constant talk about all these traumatized idiots having babies is getting on my last fucken nerves tbh. They have a million years to live so can we, I don't know, let them LIVE for five seconds without the absolute need to "start a family"? Let them go to therapy damn it. Sarah constantly writes about how awful it is that fae are obsessed with breeding and whatnot, yet every single of one her characters talks about babies...pls sarah, I beg. Give me ONE otp that doesn't have children. I know she's a HEA author which is what I love about her and her romances but it doesn't always have to end with kids and I just wish we'd see that more. Ruhn and Lidia did not strike me as characters who would be parents at all but now, Ruhn is a stepdad to the Hind's secret twins? It's very weird to me but I hope maybe down the line, we get to see Lidia realize that she is a whole person outside of being a mom. Aside from all that, the rescue scene was amazing. I loved seeing her destroy that asshole she had to endure and I just want to say, Aelin would be cheering mad hard at her for it! It felt like Lidia's fire abilities, the stag relation, and her son's name were all a nod to TOG and I loved that.
As for all the other characters, I really enjoyed seeing Ithan come into his own even though my guy was making mad stupid decisions along the way. His moment with Connor will always have my heart! l also loved the little bits of Ithan and Perry so much! Tharion my love, you will always be famous for making the most desperately dumb decisions before passing that one brain cell you have to Ithan but you know what? Sathia is going to be great for him and I ship it with my whole chest. Ari was wasted in this book and her ungrateful attitude annoyed me. Sigrid's whole plotline was pointless. Declan and Flynn are the best buds and I love them so much. Baxian, you are a gem! Pax being the one responsible for the actual HOFAS while being a healer who is making those antidotes was a great twist and I love it for her. The little fire spirits were so cute and their little moment with the viper queen made me cackle. The Viper Queen can suck it but I am also so very curious about what will happen now considering how that scene ends with Tharion/Ari/Sathia/Colin. I have a feeling all these characters will be showing up again in the future and I'd be excited to read how that will go. I have a feeling it might be done ACOSF style - in that, it'll be standalone in the CC world.
Bonus Chapters:
Bryce, Azriel, Nesta - hilarious and also so cute how Nesta was fascinated by the music playing from Bryce's phone. Azriel doesn't have a mate or partner so let that be clear LOL. Also Nesta already thinking about babies makes me wanna die tbh.
RuhnLidia - It was cute that she proposed and Ruhn is such a little dork crying left and right hahaha.
Quinlar - Hilarious how the big strong thunder boy was scared of those little dolls HAHA.
Ember/Randall - This made me want the Archeron sisters to have a mother figure so badly! The moment with Nesta and Ember hugging was so sweet in the book. I know people are mad at Rhys for yelling at Nesta but y'all...the whole world was at stake and that was a scary decision to make on Nesta's part given how the Pyrthian is STILL traumatized by the Asterie. I don't love how much he yelled but I get it.
Despite having parts I didn't like, I did overall really have fun with this. I think Sarah always does a great job with the action scenes in the end and giving us that found family connection. I could do without having the whole girl boss/girl power white feminist nonsense constantly shoved in our faces but alas! As I said, I still really enjoyed it! It had a lot of moments that pulled on all my emotions as every SJM book does. I will always enjoy what she puts out because I take it all at face value and read it to have fun. Sarah always knows how to enjoy her writing and you can tell while reading and for me, that's more than enough. The lore/plot is secondary to the characters for me and that is always how she sucks me in. She writes compelling characters who have amazing adventures and friendships that you feel through the pages and I will always enjoy that. Can't wait for more books! Here's to hoping we hear something about ACOTAR soon especially now that Bryce gave both swords back to Nesta! Can't wait to see how it plays out!

Thoughts about Bound by Briar
It's time once again for me to ramble about what happens after a fic is over!
This is one of the few chaptered fics I've written that doesn't have an epilogue chapter. Sacerdos also doesn't have one, but Dark Fire/From the Ashes and Dyed Dark as Night (as well as the upcoming vampire AU) do. To be honest with you, I struggled with this ending. I wrote like two or three variations before going for this one, which I felt was more fun and more… in character. Plus, I think it offers something the endings in other fics of mine don't, which is also important to me.
Anyway, onto my thoughts.
So, what happens next?
Well, the dynamic between Malleus and Rollo is shifting even further. Pet/owner to vassal and suzerain to... something else. It may look like Malleus has the power from the outside looking in, but he's ceding more and more of it over time. Rollo knows he has an immense amount of sway when it comes to Malleus and he isn't interested in giving that up. He really has nothing else: he can't go home, he can't avenge Jehan (because he can't destroy magic), so what remains? Malleus. Thus, Rollo will dig his claws into him as deeply as possible. In fact… I'd say that this Rollo would (eventually) even accept being transformed into a fae like in DDAN so that he won't have to relinquish Malleus.
Though, I will say, when Rollo figures out what the magestone ring Malleus gave him does he's going to flip the fuck out. He hardly uses magic, so I don't think he'd notice for a while, especially if the main magic he uses is attuned to him (the flames) and thus produces a miniscule amount of blot. I could have covered his eventual discovery in this fic, but I just didn't want to. It'd cascade into a lot of complicated stuff outside the scope of a weird unhealthy romance story. Whether or not Malleus/the fae will agree to maybe start disseminating these magestone rings to humans, that's an issue. I could see Malleus agreeing (purely because Rollo wants it), but will the queen? Maybe they'll start a smuggling operation… Like, they acquire the stones, slip them to the Queendom, and then the Queendom surges in power and dominates the other countries. Lots of consequences here. Maybe other countries will attack the fae in earnest to get their hands on the stones? Talk about a mess. But it would be funny if the Shaftlands, having sacrificed ships and manpower basically to fuck mages over, find themselves significantly weakened in this new magic-safe(r) world. Whoops! Eat shit!
Another key question I imagine some people might have is: does Rollo love Malleus? I think he does, in a way. But it's warped. Not only does he know he has the upper hand (as in, Malleus loves Rollo more than Rollo loves Malleus), but it's not like Rollo got to choose Malleus over everyone else--he has no other options. He's definitely attracted to him, of course. I just think that there's no starting from 0 with Rollo, he will always remember how their relationship started and how Malleus treated him. His love for Malleus is possessive and at least partially born out of survival. When that threat fades in his memory, he'll chill out some. But he'll never forget.
Will Malleus and Rollo have kids? Maybe. I think Rollo would be into the idea after a few years since it would give him another purpose in life (not to mention it would mean claiming Malleus even further). But I also think that Rollo would have to accept being a concubine. A concubine who's also a vassal...
What if Malleus has to take a fae wife? Rollo would manipulate Malleus as hard as he possibly can, ensuring that he spends little time with her. Maybe to the point that he has 0 legitimate children and instead has a handful with Rollo. I do like the idea of things getting extra fucked up because of the introduction of a wife, but it also makes me sad, so. Whoever this lady is, she doesn't deserve the horrible schemes Rollo would cook up. Best case scenario, Malleus tells her something like, "Look, I'm in love with my human, so this marriage is purely for show/the alliance/whatever. Appear at official events with me, but otherwise we shouldn't spend much time together. We likely won't even consummate this marriage." Hopefully she's cool with that. We wouldn't want any competition between heirs, now, would we... And well, it would be a nice sort of vengeance for Rollo to 'taint' the royal bloodline forever.
The gargoyles become good friends with Malle, but Rollo won't let him hang around them more than he deems necessary. Rollo visits them maybe more often because he does the cleaning.
All in all, they basically make each other worse. Rollo isolates Malleus from others while Malleus is content to get the majority, if not all, of his emotional needs met by Rollo. Meaning the threat of him leaving/dying is huge and one Malleus won't be able to bear in the future. Rollo accomplishes none of his initial goals and lives a life that is, no matter what, ultimately up to the whims of Malleus and the other fae. The whole 'human expert' thing is a job Malleus made for him, more or less. And he'll never see Fleur City ever again. He has little to worry about regarding Malleus' affection... for now. Something, or someone, could happen at any time, so he'll have to be vigilant.
Not quite a bad end, not quite a good end. They'll stay together in a codependent relationship until one of them dies.
Some of you may be curious as to the other endings I tried out. Well, in one, I was going to have Rollo accept Trey's offer and stealthily head to the docks. I thought about having him turn back on his own or having Malleus confront him there. It felt... predictable? Played out, maybe? It just didn't work for me. Another version involved Rollo reading the letter with Malleus in the room, with him learning about the content and, of course, freaking out. I also wrote a thing where Rollo and Malleus ride a horse (Rollo at the reins, Malleus behind him) together, but I can't remember where that was supposed to go. A lot of unused chunks... I even wrote out a scene where Rollo actually was leading the diplomacy effort and talking with Trey and company in their little house tree, but it deviated a lot from mallerollo time and I went, "Would anyone want to read this...?" and scrapped it. Plus I don't think it makes a ton of sense for the fae to entrust that job to Rollo so quickly.
Maybe some of those failed endings sound more appealing than what I went with, but they simply weren't working out. When I've written something and I keep avoiding continuing it, like I'll reread it and go "ugh" and do something else, that's how I know it isn't going to happen. Procrastination's normal, but I should want to continue a particular scene and it shouldn't be like pulling teeth. And if I do force myself to write something I'm not into, it'll be of lesser quality. Basically.... if I'm not having fun writing it, no one will have any reading it.
If anyone has any questions about the story or anything really, I'd be happy to answer. I know the pacing of the last few chapters was a bit speedy... so I wouldn't be surprised if there were aspects that people found confusing.

Hello! Sorry about the roughness of my blog, I mostly just used this one for lurking before I ever thought to get in on anything.
I’m Shallahi Ksheh Bah-Teft, I’m… around… Nanish-er, that’s 20 years old, I think? (Years, months, days, and hours are different where I’m from.) (UPDATE: it’s closer to 22.) I’m human (mostly), Thaylen/Alethi, but I have longer eyebrows than most half-Thayleni. (I’m a Luxray Hybrid now, as of 2-29-24.) Yes, long eyebrows is a weird thing here. I tend to wear them over my ears, if that’s a good image to use as a metric.)
(Update: Apparently I’m Luxray-kin? I just figured it out, so…)
I’m from Kharbranth, also known as the City of Bells. I’m a Knight Radiant (something like a “Chosen for a smaller, less powerful being. I’m of the Sixth Order, a Lightweaver of the Fourth Ideal as of 1-23-24), a Worldhopper (a “Faller” with more agency in where they go, basically), a collector of stories and knowledge and a lover of food and adventure!
I am a member of Bridge Four and an Incursionist.
I thought I was 6-foot-something, but I’m closer to 6-and-a-third of this world’s feet in height.
I use she/it/fae, and by your standards of gender, I would be transfeminine. (I transitioned by accidentally taking in an entire lamp’s worth of Stormlight, so no need to worry about HRT access, thank goodness. It’s such a shame that others can’t just breathe in magic and—poof! Be properly aligned to their Spiritual aspect.)
I may say words that don’t make sense to you, or don’t fit in the context you’d use them in, that’s just a consequence of the mixing of my own vocabulary and knowledge that I took with me here, me learning new words and assuming their meaning, and the Connection tricks I use to help learn new languages.
I said I was a Worldhopper earlier; don’t worry, while yes I might steal away to Scadarial or elsewhere for a bit, I’m making this world with weak storms, static grass, and colourful fluffy creatures my home. Like Shinovar but with more colour and less ksenophobia!
Now for you, Snowflake!
Mmmmm…
Ah! I am called “Snowflake” or “Snowy,” (She/Her) and I am a Patternspren or Crypticspren. A spren is… mmmm… a small fragment of a God. Not your gods, mind you. I am bonded to Shallahi, who you have already heard from. This world is strange to us. There is no Shadesmar, no Cognitive Realm that we could find. This means that I am just a Pattern on a dress or other form of clothing. I am dictating my words to Shallahi. Mmm… unfeminine.
(SH: Don’t listen to that stupid old book, it’s full of lies.)
I like lies. You know this.
SH: Then why let those lies dictate your life?)
Mmm… I am called Snowflake because that is how my Pattern looks. This is everything I can think to say.
I sign asks as ❄️.
I have a ton of siblings from Bridge Four, and also Oppy @freeroaming-curiosity is my sister!
Malkah (@faller-of-kharbranth) who just Fell here recently, is also my sister now!
Konnie @abyssanon is also my sibling, as well.
My little sister, who goes by Kitt but is technically a younger me, is at @kitten-of-kharbranth.
SALUTATIONS. I AM HER MAJESTY THE DUSK QUEEN LUNALA, THE PSEUDO-PATRON OF SHALLAHI.
My name, should you need it, is Nyx, and I use she/he/it/moon pronouns.
Should I send any asks, I shall sign them with -Her Majesty, the Queen of Dusk, Lunala.
Rose @hisuianhellion is MY GIRLFRIEND AND I LOVE HER SO MUCH!
I have 12 kids:
• Sword @sword-of-injustice, who talks like this. (Your pronouns.)
• Crystal @crystalclearribbons, who doesn’t live with me. (She/Her)
• Vivillon @shinx-oh, who also doesn’t live with me. (She/her)

Midsummer’s Eve
Tagging the most vocal supporters of the initial ideas post: @star-ocean-peahen , @telemna-hyelle , @tired-twili , @sansxfuckyou , @indigoartistqueen , @arpeggiopeg , @dyne-osaur
I’m posting my updated notes on my Disney princess movie idea based on the Princess and the Pea; it’ll have the old notes with it for context but it’ll have lots of new notes like character names, casting, storyline ideas, and merchandising opportunities because we all know how Disney operates. I’m putting it under the line so this post doesn’t become another “Do you love the color of the sky” post in its absurd length.
Next Big Disney Princess Movie
- I’m slightly obsessed with the Princess and the Pea, I wanna figure out how it could be turned into a Disney Princess movie
- The original story is that a king and queen think no one is good enough for their son, so they test a prospective partner’s purity by having her sleep on a tower of a hundred mattresses with a single pea placed at the bottom. A random girl seeks shelter from a storm and finds the castle; they let her in, and just because they’re curious they test her out on the mattresses. She tosses and turns all night, and in the morning she reports she could not sleep a wink. The king and queen are satisfied because obviously she could feel the pea under the mattress tower so she’s pure enough to marry their son.
- Maybe the Princess could be plagued by insomnia and a being that comes to her in her dreams leads her on a quest to rescue a magical prince from his overbearing parents, the rulers of the fairies. They test her with odd nature-themed trials, and the final one is testing her purity by feeling a pea under a stack of mattresses.
- Maybe not outright stating insomnia, just alluding to it with her inability to fall asleep easily and, in the Pea trial, psyching herself out to the extent where she thinks she can feel a tiny lump under her mattress
- Her thoughts are like “the final test can’t just be falling asleep, there’s gotta be more to it, there always is with these people!” She’s awake so long that she becomes adjusted to the dark silent stillness of the room and is finally able to feel that tiny lump under all one hundred mattresses.
- Plot starts when heroine stumbles into the fairy castle seeking shelter from the thunderstorm outside, unaware of the true nature of the castle she’s found herself in
- She was led to this castle by will-o-the-wisps, prankish fairies
- Or maybe the being who led her here could be her cute animal sidekick, some sort of tricksy fae creature
- Could try the Frozen/Tangled approach where the events take place in the span of a day or a few days, or could emulate Disney renaissance classics and have the story stretch on for weeks
- Make the heroine Irish? Make the story Irish? Even if Hans Christian Andersen wrote it, we don’t necessarily need to stick closely to the source material in that way. His fairy tales have been adapted by Disney plenty of times, rarely sticking to his geographic region. The Emperor’s New Clothes became the Meso-American Emperor’s New Groove, and The Little Mermaid apparently takes place in the Mediterranean. Making her and the setting Irish justifies all the fairy lore I want to bring in with this story.
- Since the prince in this story is a Fae prince, maybe he sees this human girl one day and gets a crush, so he keeps visiting her in the form of a fox because he’s not the most socially gifted, and he gets the Will’o’Wisps to lead her to his castle as a way of introducing his choice of bride to his parents, because fae customs are just weird like that. The princess was already fond of her fox friend and later in the movie she learns it was the prince in disguise visiting her because he was in love, and over the course of the story as he helps her win the challenges set by the king and queen, the princess and the fae prince actually properly fall in love with one another. The Pea trial is the last trial and it’s one where the prince cannot help her in any way, so he just gives her advice before she’s sent off to bed.
- In this idea we have a prince who’s not charming or dashing but who’s sincere and kindhearted and more than a little awkward, and a princess who is steadfast, determined, and who isn’t a pushover, who will get through the toughest of odds on her wit and will, of course with the help of her friends because that’s what friends are for. The “villains” are a king and queen who may be overbearing at times but who genuinely want what’s best for their son, parents who differ on how best to raise their child but who love each other fiercely and will protect their family at all cost.
- Maybe the princess can be a changeling, aka a fairy baby who was swapped with a human baby, and then that could either be a reveal at the end of the film when she gets fairy magic by marrying the fairy prince, or it can be left ambiguous how she gets her magical power up and it can be left in the editorial notes that the protagonist was supposed to be a changeling
- What if the princess were fat? Like, the first explicitly chubby Disney Princess in a lineup where slim and athletic is the norm. It would be good representation, I’ll have to play with the design a bit and deviate from my Doll Divine first drafts, because the dresses would fit different on that different body type.
- I also don’t want the prince looking like the general Disney Prince, I want him to sort of embody fox-like characteristics, so the transition from fox to human is believable, also so he looks a little otherworldly since he is a fae prince. Maybe his skin is pink (close enough to a normal human skin tone) and his parents are blue and purple, giving them an otherworldly look.
- I should make a Disney Renaissance style movie trailer for this. Leave the people wanting more, maybe start a petition, get some internet attention that might get Disney’s attention. Long term plans are good.
- In Beauty and the Beast, Belle’s favorite book has “far off places, daring sword fights, magic spells, a prince in disguise,” as well as a scene where “here’s where she meets Prince Charming, but she won’t discover that it’s him till chapter three,” and I want to use this as a guide for my hypothetical movie. I want people on the internet to assume this story is the book that Belle is reading. So I can have my prince in disguise as a fox but chapter three would usually take place after the intro and after the inciting incident, so after the princess’s normal life is established and after she comes to the fairy castle, which is ideally how I was imagining the reveal to happen.
- There’s the issue of “why wouldn’t the princess just try to leave once she learned what she was expected to do?” In this bare bones list of plot ideas, I’ve indicated that the princess is led to the castle, is sought after by the fae prince, and is sympathetic towards him because of his controlling and overbearing parents. Maybe she stays because she can see just how much he needs her, and throughout the story the two gradually fall for each other. I mean, the prince was already in love with her but we also need to give time for the princess to fall for him.
- Since I love Beauty and the Beast so much, maybe there should be opening narration in the form of a fairy tale, but then it’s revealed it’s the fae prince talking to himself while admiring the princess from afar, and we should do the thing where when the emotions become to great he starts singing, and that’s the opening song, playing in his mind as a fox while he interacts with the princess’s village and the princess herself. The song could function both as an establishing number and an I Want song for the prince.
- Maybe the story should have a meta commentary on how Love at First Sight, as a fairytale staple, isn’t really true love, it’s just puppy love, and real true love is born of dedication and honesty, real love takes effort, which is shown in all the trials and all the ways the prince helps the princess throughout. It’s not enough to say “this is the one I want to marry,” you have to earn your partner’s trust and affection.
- The princess should get a musical number about how she underestimates herself, and over the course of the song she changes key and starts believing in herself, and this’ll take place during a montage of trials
- The fae king and queen should get a campy musical number showing how in love they are, how much more powerful they are than this lowly human girl their son has brought home, and how she’ll never beat them at their own game so why try, and this villain song will set them up for a sympathetic reprise at the end when she inevitably comes out on top
- I might want Joel McNeely to compose for this movie. He proved he can emulate the classic Disney sound in Peter Pan 2, and he has experience composing Celtic-sounding fairy music with the Tinkerbell movies. If Alan Menken is still alive by the time I somehow make this thing work, I’d take him over McNeely.
- Story takes place on Midsummer Eve, because in Irish folklore that’s when the fae are at their happiest and they sometimes take mortals away to be their brides
- There’s a thing in Disney Princess movies that got pointed out in Ralph Breaks the Internet. A princess finds some form of water, looks at it, and sings about her dreams. Snow White’s wishing well, Cinderella’s soap bubbles, Aurora’s woodland river, Ariel had the whole ocean, Belle sang in the snow plus singing at the fountain in the town square, Jasmine got a singing part in Whole New World as they flew through clouds and over oceans/pools, Pocahontas had the river, Meg technically isn’t a Disney princess but she had a whole fountain garden solo number, Mulan had her water garden, Tiana never sang in the presence of water but she did sing a couple times in the swamp, and although Rapunzel never got a water-based song and Merida doesn’t sing, Elsa got her songs in the snow, and Moana had the whole ocean like Ariel did. This is a trend I wanna continue, so I’m gonna try and work in a musical number where the heroine reflects near some form of water.
- The Princess and the Pea is quite a mouthful, and I fear it would get confused with The Princess and the Frog, plus nowadays Disney titles tend to be one word descriptors of some aspect of the movie. Tangled, Frozen, Moana, Encanto, so I think a good candidate for the name of this movie is Midsummer’s Eve. Hopefully that would be enough to differentiate the name from Midsommar, a movie I do not want people connecting this story to at all.
- If I really wanna push the prince’s fox-like features, should I make him small? Like, slim 5’8” young man with pointy ears and pinkish skin. Then I could make his crush, the princess, both tall and fat, but in a muscular way? Like, instead of dainty princess should I go more warrior princess? Twink fairy prince with butch warrior princess? I think that would look stunning.
- Casting Reeve Carney as the prince, he’s got a gorgeous singing voice. I wanna find an Irish actress who can sing for the princess, but I’m not limiting myself with my casting choices for the king and queen. I want people who can be flamboyant, intimidating, and heartfelt.
- The Fae appreciate when humans manage to outsmart them or match their cunning, so in the story the first challenge the princess completes she’ll get by just barely by following the rules and brute forcing it, and the king and queen will sarcastically commend her efforts. The next challenges the princess will catch on that she needs to work smarter, not harder, and she’ll find loopholes and ways around the problems, earning more of the queen and king’s favor. Finally, the princess will face them, saying essentially “I’ve completed every challenge you’ve thrown at me, you must not keep your son cooped up here on his own any longer!” And the remark about their son makes them realize they’ve been unfair to him all this time, not considering what he might want.
- The princess’s cute magical sidekicks include a mischievous Wisp, a well meaning Sylph, and technically the prince in his fox form, which can all be made into plushies for marketing purposes. In the film, the Wisp would stick around her after the other Wisps had fulfilled their duty leading her to the fairy castle, and the Sylph would be gifted to her as a tiny lady in waiting, cleaning up after her and offering to help her in any way, except when it comes to challenges set by the king and queen.
- Talking with the fae is kind of like Alice trying to talk to the people of Wonderland
- Post-Credits scene should be an awkward post-wedding family dinner between princess’s human family and prince’s fairy parents, just these otherworldly creatures sitting across from this burly warrior chieftain forced to make awkward smalltalk it’d be hilarious.
- I wanna make it clear, even if it doesn’t look like it, this love story is a queer love story. The princess is Bi, the prince is Pan and genderfluid, and them being in love with one another doesn’t negate that. Just because the corporate overlords at Disney will inevitably frame it as a straight relationship, these two characters are anything but.
- Maybe the fae can be genderfluid, and the fae royalty can have alternate castings for if I want to turn them different genders for various scenes
- Gonna have another case of single dad raising rebellious daughter, but compound that with the fact that the princess’s dad is the leader of his clan so he’s under a lot of stress. If his daughter disappeared one night, he might think she was taken by a rival clan and might be on the verge of going to war if she doesn’t return, so that’s some extra stakes for the background of the movie
- Quite a bit of fairy folklore in Ireland and England dates back to the 12th century, during which time Ireland was being invaded by the Anglo-Normans, so there’s my background conflict for the humans to be dealing with while the princess is off in fairyland.
- Primary Gaelic weapons of the 12th century: spears, battle-axes, darts, sling-stones
- I’m giving Nessa a sling for a weapon, I think it could be used in a trial or two to solve a problem
- A friend of mine recommended a sort of Greek Chorus of magical cats in little bard uniforms that could slink around the castle and sing for comedic effect. Looking up Irish cat breeds I could only find the Manx cat, so that’s the cat I’m going with.
- Casting the Princess:
- I’m going for someone with an alto sort of voice, someone who can pull off a grounded performance in the face of all these over the top campy fairy characters. They should either be a young adult or someone who can sound youthful, but since the princess is more of a warrior she’ll need to have a deeper voice, or at least not a light and airy voice. Ideally I’d want an Irish actress, just so I don’t get complaints about a bad fake Irish accent. For all the human characters I want Irish actors or people who can pull off Irish accents for background characters, since the story takes place in Ireland and the fae Otherworld.
- Jessie Buckley is Irish, she’s an actress and a singer, her voice is a bit on the deep side but not exactly what I was hearing in my head
- Aisling Franciosi is Irish, she’s still in her 20’s, she can sing really well, but her voice is a bit higher than what I was going for initially
- Casting the Villains:
- We need two singers who harmonize well, who sound great together, who have chemistry so we can hear it in the voice acting. We need two actors who can pull off comedy, heartfelt drama, and menacing moments. Race and accent is not an issue, I’ll just let anything slide because to me a faerie can sound like anything, but I won’t be so lenient on human characters.
- Casting the Fae Prince (or Fae Princess):
- My first idea was Reeve Carney, and I’m gonna stick by that decision unless I stumble across another actor/singer who can pull off a socially awkward twink
- Casting the princess’s dad:
- Resist the urge to plunder HTTYD for casting because those guys are Scottish, and I need Irish actors.
- Maybe Brendan Gleeson, he gives tired gruff dad energy
- Liam Neason is Irish, he’s got a deep gruff voice, and he’s played battle-hardened dad characters before
- Casting the Sidekicks
- Should the Sylph and the Wisp have voice actors? Or should they be more like animal sidekicks, no spoken lines, just noises and body language? I kinda like the idea of them having squeaky gibberish voices, as if Nessa can’t understand their tiny fairy language and the other fairies in the movie are speaking her language to make it simpler for her, in a sort of patronizing way at first?
- Names:
- I want names that would be easy to spell and pronounce for general (non-Irish) audiences but I want Irish names to fit the setting. The fae characters can have more fantastical names but I wanted to go with names that really fit each character.
- Princess: Nessa
- This name can mean “rough” or “not gentle.” In Irish mythology, she was the powerful and ambitious mother of Conchobar (Conor) MacNessa, King of Ulster.
- Fae Prince: Daithi (dah-hee)
- This is an old Irish name that means “swiftness” or “nimbleness.” Daithi was the name of the last Pagan king of Ireland who ruled from 405-426 AD
- Fae Queen: Sloane, Bree, Dara, Sapphire
- Fae King: Bran, Bellamy, Tiernan, Beryl
- Human Dad: Cathal (ka-hal)
- Meaning “strong in battle.” Derived from Gaelic “cath” (battle) and "val" (rule). It was the name of a 7th-century Irish saint.
- Character Design
- If I really wanna push the prince’s fox-like features, should I make him small? Like, slim 5’7” young man with pointy ears and pinkish skin. Then I could make his crush, the princess, both tall and fat, but in a muscular way? Like, instead of dainty princess should I go more warrior princess? Twink fairy prince with butch warrior princess? I think that would look stunning.
- The fairies could be human sized but their wings could do the thing where they become capes, like in Gargoyles
- Nessa:
- Pale freckled skin, heavy-set, muscular, tall, long dark brown hair, dark blue-green eyes
- She wants to be a warrior in her father’s clan but he doesn’t want her seeing battle as his eldest and only daughter
- I’m gonna dress her up in red because the only other princess who wears any red is Moana, and she’ll have a green cloak because folklore says it’ll hide you from fae sights, green is a protective color alongside being complimentary to red
- Daithi:
- Pointed ears, slim physique, pretty short, pink-toned skin, fox-colored hair (dark roots, orange to white gradient on the ends), bright golden eyes
- Regal outfit with lots of nature motifs
- I want the fae royalty to have a variety of different outfits they switch between depending on the situation
- Cathal:
- I want him to look hardened by life, but I want to make it clear that Nessa is the child of his that looks most like him. No more cloning the mom to make the daughter, I want Nessa to look most like her father’s daughter. Same hair, same eye color, same nose, similar jaw, big strong dad with big strong daughter
- Dark brown wavy hair just brushing his shoulders, dark blue-green eyes, pale scarred face, strong jaw, tall muscular build, looks like a warrior king you’d be scared to go up against
- Queen Dara:
- Loud and proud, larger than life, take inspiration from drag queens
- Google “drag queen fashion” and “high fashion inspired by nature” and you’ll get the gist of what I want the queen to look like
- Dara can have more insect theming and bright shiny colors
- King Tiernan:
- Im thinking this character should embody the traits of male birds; the preening, the intricate mating displays, the bright colors and showy feathers. He and his wife shouldn’t be drowning each other out, they should be complimentary, like these two enter a room and they’re immediately the most fabulous pair
- I kinda wanna deviate from typical fantasy menswear, it’s all very dark and heavy, I want the king to look light and fun but still powerful and regal, and I want him to be beautiful, like, all fairies are beautiful to some degree, and I want the king to be beautiful
- I also want the king and queen to utilize the full range of colors on the classic Disney villain color palette; purple, red, green, black, gold, and blue would work with nature-inspired patterns like insect wings, bird feathers, plants and flowers
- Tiernan should have ornately styled facial hair with jewels and golden beads woven into his beard
Ideas for the Trials:
- final one has to be “sleep on the tower of a hundred mattresses”, and I want this one to go like this:
- Nessa is sent to bed with the king and queen acting suspicious. “Sleep, if you can” that sort of thing.
- She returns to her room and is faced with a tower of mattresses. They altered her bed while she was away doing the challenges, and she gathers that this is yet another challenge. She fears there might never be an end and she’ll be trapped in the fairy realm forever.
- She begins the long climb up. The bed is kept stable by towering posts, but she’s exhausted by the time she finally reaches the top. Despite her exhaustion however, as she tucks herself into bed she finds she cannot fall asleep.
- Her mind is racing, thinking things like “this can’t be it, can it? There’s always some little trick, some little complication with the fae, there always is! And what if I fail this test? Would they send me away, or would they trap me in more trials till my hair goes grey? What would happen to Daithi? He’s so used to living with these mad people but he shouldn’t have to be! It isn’t right! Why shouldn’t he get a say in who he marries, why’s it up to them?”
- As she’s thinking this, she starts tossing and turning but no matter what she does she cannot get comfortable. She feels a bump in the mattress but as she glances over the side to search under the top mattress she gets a bit of vertigo. She steels her resolve and starts to climb down the ladder, checking every mattress for some kind of rock or anything that could cause such a noticeable bump. She searches and searches until she reaches the floor, and under the very bottom mattress she finds a tiny green pea. Furious, she takes the pea and storms out of the room in her nightgown, ready to give the king and queen a peace of her mind.
- Not sure if there should be a montage blurring together an indeterminate amount of trials but if there was I could get away with a musical number, like how Make a Man Out of You is a training montage where all the singing is inner monologue
- I want weird nature-themed trials you’d find in fairytales and folklore, like herding rabbits or picking the correct item out of a lineup of identical looking things, so I’m gonna research and read up on fairytales to find any weirdly specific elements I can borrow
- In most of the tasks I want Daithi to be able to gift something to Nessa that will help her succeed, wether it be a magical aid or a piece of advice. All this helping will continue to grow their friendship and blossom that romance.
- A darts competition?
- An obstacle course?
- If we want to add something scary to the movie I can make one trial deal with the dead or ghosts since a lot of fairy folklore from Ireland utilizes ghost stories and death omens
- Maybe just indirectly steal from that one folktale I read about the dude carrying a talking skeleton to its final resting place
- The trial is to bring a skeleton hanging around your neck to its burial site all the while avoiding the sight of a Banshee
- It’s like a terrifying game of Red Light Green Light with corpses and ghosts
- At a tense moment where Nessa’s nearly there but the Banshee is turning, about to catch sight of her, Daithi in the form of some tiny animal swoops in to distract the Banshee, giving Nessa the time she needs to pass the trial.
- A game of riddles against the king that provides a break in the montage song Nessa will sing about feeling the need to prove herself and slowly realizing that she has nothing to prove to anyone, she just needs to realize the strength and willpower already within herself. The riddles game provides a break where the characters talk in a certain rhythm so it’s like talk-singing and it’s continuing the song.
Basic Plot Outline:
- Storybook narration, morphs into our fairy prince character Daithi daydreaming while watching our protagonist Nessa from the trees/bushes. She has no idea he’s there and she’s having fun with her younger brothers. Daithi can’t bear to merely watch anymore and transforms into a fox to interact with her, which is when we get the opening number that will establish a bit of the setting but also serve as the prince’s I Want song as his inner thoughts. He wants someone who gets him, someone he can pour all his love into, he wants a partner to stand with through thick and thin, like his parents’ relationship. He wants a life partner, and at the start he’s projecting all that onto Nessa, his dream girl. He’s convinced it’s true love because it was love at first sight, he barely knows this girl but he’s a hopeless romantic.
- Nessa and her brothers are wary at first but as soon as Daithi shows he’s friendly the siblings include the fox in their game, like playing with a stray dog. Their father comes to break it up to send the boys off to gather resources for the upcoming Midsummer’s Eve festivities, taking the opportunity to give Nessa a stern talking to. They both know she’s past the typical age where she’d be married off to forge a new alliance, but Nessa is steadfast in her desire to help her father and fight for her people. Cathal is adamant that she stay away from war, and hopes she can loosen up and make some friends outside of her brothers at the celebration later that evening. Maybe we could have Nessa singing a reprise of Daithi’s I Want song but change the lyrics to fit Nessa’s situation of wanting to prove herself strong and capable to her father, and since it’d be a reprise there’s no need to make it very long, it can be like the Belle Reprise, the One Jump Ahead Reprise, the Part of Your World Reprise, or the Poor Unfortunate Souls Reprise.
- During the festivities a massive thunderstorm comes out of nowhere and Nessa is drawn into the woods by a mysterious light and the sounds of childish laughter which she thinks are her youngest brothers running off to the woods in the middle of the night in a thunderstorm. She’s the type to charge in headfirst and deal with the consequences later. Instead of her brothers, she finds a luminous castle in a part of the forest she doesn’t recognize at all. The doors open of their own accord, and she goes inside, now drenched and exhausted.
- The castle is bigger on the inside and the massive doors swing shut behind her. This is the throne room, and perched atop the ornate golden thrones are two imposing beautiful creatures. The taller one seems to be dressed in a more feminine style and the shorter one has an ornately styled beard and mustache. These are the king and queen of the fairies, Dara and Tiernan. They slowly get up from their thrones and saunter over to this haggard human girl who dared to enter their realm without so much as an invitation, but Daithi in his humanoid fairy form quickly walks over to intercept, like, “Mom, Dad, this is the girl I’ve been telling you about!”
- Nessa is quite rightfully overwhelmed so she sits in stunned silence as this guy she doesn’t know talks about her like they’re good friends and his parents openly judge her with backhanded compliments and scathing remarks. She literally has no clue how to react to all this so when the guy takes her arm and leads her off to the hallway she lets him do it, and here’s where he apologizes for suddenly dropping all this on her poor human mind. He also shows her he’s the fox that’s been visiting her for quite some time now, and she gets a better sense of what she’s dealing with now that she knows they’ve actually interacted before in a positive way, they’re not complete strangers.
- The reason Daithi lured her to the castle is because his parents were about to marry him off to a fairy of their choosing unless he finally picked someone and brought them forward for his parents’ approval. Midsummer’s Eve was the deadline they set. It’s definitely a lot for Nessa to process, so Daithi asks his parents to give Nessa a place to rest for the night before they do anything with her. They oblige and Nessa is set up with a lavish room and a Sylph handmaiden to tend to her needs. Curiously, a mischievous Wisp has been sticking by Nessa’s side ever since its brethren led her to the castle, and it gleefully wrecks little things in the room that the Sylph compulsively attends to and cleans up. These two are the primary comic relief, lots of slapstick and physical comedy.
- That very night, the king and queen plot just how they’re gonna test this mortal. If she’s gonna stand any chance of marrying their boy she’s gotta live up to their standards, and those are high standards. Dara wants to hold a contest of strength but Tiernan proposes a dueling of wits, and together the two devise a series of trials for Nessa to complete before she earns their favor. Daithi is eavesdropping in fox form so he can hopefully give Nessa a heads up before she goes to face the trials.
- Nessa thinks about it like this; these are obviously the fae, basically gods, and they’re much more powerful than her. Best to be a polite guest and play along with whatever they’re planning until she’s earned enough of their good graces to ask for a guide out of their realm and back to her home and family.
- Should the villain song go here? Like, as the way the king and queen fully introduce themselves to Nessa and set up the trials, all the while singing about how there’s no chance she’ll actually succeed and how they’re better than her in every way? Could lead directly into Nessa’s hero song, a triumphant moment as she gets the hang of the challenges and starts beating them at their own game.
- One thing I set up in the beginning is Nessa’s clan having some enemies that might take an alliance to fully defeat, and the fact that Nessa’s past the typical marriage age to forge an alliance between her group and another, and the fact that the whole point of this story is to get past the superficial crush stage of Love at First Sight and work to forge a strong bond with your chosen partner, so perhaps the movie could end with the humans and the fae coming together under the marriage of Nessa and Daithi, forging a new alliance that will strengthen them for years to come.
Merchandising Opportunities:
- Fairy Castle playset, dolls of Nessa, Daithi, Dara, Tiernan, the Sylph, and the Wisp
- Fashion dolls of Nessa and Dara, accompanied by dolls of Daithi and Tiernan respectively
- Singing dolls of Nessa, Daithi, Dara, and Tiernan
- Plushies of the Sylph and the Wisp, plush fox based on Daithi
- Figurines of the principle cast members
- Costumes of the princess dresses and fairy royalty outfits
- Makeup kit inspired by Queen Dara
- Simplified story for children’s books
- Potential for a follow up series exploring how Nessa navigates the role of fairy princess, her struggles fitting in and her misadventures with all sorts of fae creatures (like a similar formula to Tangled the Series)
- Wisp nightlight

I immediately picked up the sequel to Bonded By Thorns since it was such a fun read. As with the first one, the romance is very strong and probably my favorite part of the book. Also, we get to know more about the princes (including the evil one) and their complicated pasts with their actions and one another. I felt like Rosalina was adapting a little quickly, but then I remember that she's spent months in the fae world at this point and it seems less unrealistic. As fantasy romances are wont to do, the plot is a little thin and drawn out, but I really only have two major gripes. One, the problem introduced at the end of book one is resolved almost immediately, which was a little unsatisfying, but it did introduce some characters and plot points. Two, the 'big mystery' concerning specifically Rosalina and her family is so obvious. Like, I get that they are not aware of the tropes of the genre they're in, but come on. Surely someone can at least suspect it?
The Wicked King by Holly Black (10/10)
The Wicked King is absolutely my favorite book of Folk of the Air. I just love magical politicking, and Jude does it so well. This sounds weird, but her time in the Undersea is a part that has always stuck with me. She's obviously miserable, but I think it's when I realized just how far Jude would go for her ambitions (and just how far Cardan would go for her) and I love it. Speaking of Cardan, the build in their relationship is so well done; a true enemies-to-lovers arc if there ever was one. As much as I know what's really going on with the twist at the end, it still hurt to read. I enjoyed this reread so much that I ended up changing my rating from a 9 to a 10 because I really can't think of anything to criticize about this book.
Everblaze by Shannon Messenger (9/10)
I think Everblaze marks a significant turning point in the Keeper books. This is the first time we start really interacting with species outside elves, specifically politically, and it's the first time doubt in the council comes front and center. The books are starting to explore what the worldbuilding actually means, and it means a lot of dubious things when it comes to control and privacy. The development at the very end (and I mean very, literally last page) disrupts the pattern that has been set in these books so far, and it definitely makes you want to keep reading. Fitz and Biana sufficiently redeem themselves in this one, but Dex is going to have to step it the fuck up before I even consider giving him another chance, especially since I already don't like his pushy romantic feelings for Sophie. As always, my favorite relationships lie in Sophie and Keefe and Sophie and Grady and Edaline, the latter of which really stood out this book.
The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black (9/10)
There are 308 pages in this book. I highlighted something 228 times. I remember when I read this book the first time I was a little disappointed that there wasn't much of the intense scheming that came with The Wicked King, and I take that back. Maybe Jude's plans are a little more straightforward this time around, but even knowing what was going to happen there was still an insane amount of suspense. The relationships in this book are so strong, and not just romantically. Jude and Madoc's fraught parent-child relationship in particular has me riveted; it's incredibly complicated and so good. But also romantically, Jude and Cardan are at the top of their game this book, and it's amazing to see Cardan so unashamedly in love. They deserve their happy ending and to take off their armor, one piece at a time.
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson (10/10)
I've been interested in this book for a while, but I was finally prompted to read it by the TV show announcement. And I can definitely say I wasn't disappointed. If you watch any sort of procedural show, this will be right up your alley. I loved how the actual investigation was laid out with Pip's notes and diagrams in the book. It made me feel like I was solving the mystery right alongside her. The focus is definitely on the murder, but I still got a good sense of Pip's personal life and how her obsession with the case was affecting her and her relationships. I won't lie, one of the most anxiety-inducing parts was her college applications, but maybe that's just me. I managed to predict who the killer was, but the actual story behind the whole thing made my jaw drop. I can't wait to read the rest of the series and see the show!
Guardians of Dawn: Zhara by S. Jae-Jones (5/10)
This book is not irredeemable. The plot is unoriginal but not nonsensical or boring, the magic is super interesting, and Zhara has a lot of potential as a character. However, most of the characters are one-dimensional and uncompelling and the writing is...not good. The unending focus on the romance when there were so many other interesting things going on was so frustrating. And then there was the unashamed insertion of what is clearly meant to be BTS (yes, worldwide kpop sensation BTS) that completely destroyed my immersion. Also, the disability rep is pretty dubious. I was pretty disappointed by this read, which sucks because I think it had a lot of potential.
Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater (10/10)
This book is like if Pride & Prejudice and Howl's Moving Castle had a baby, and I ate it up. This book perfectly blended a historical romance with engaging fantasy elements. Dora is a wonderful main character; she's lovable and engaging while still have a completely unique personality that really makes her stand out amongst a lot of fantasy romance protagonists. The love interest is suitably snarky while still being respectful and kind, especially to Dora. Their interactions are fun while still being incredibly romantic. The plot works well with the romance and characters, culminating in a very satisfying ending. Finally, I really appreciate the ending for Dora's issue in particular; it works well for her character and is, in my opinion, in good taste. I highly recommend this book, especially if you're looking for a light, quick read!
The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas (CR, 57%)
I'm kind of just reading this one to get through it. The stories are fairly interesting, but I was told it provides valuable context for Queen of Shadows, which is really the only reason I'm reading it. I'm not a huge fan of prequels; I don't like reading stories that I already know the ending of. So far, while some things have been interesting, like Celaena's training in the desert, it's very obvious that everything is building up to what I already know is going to happen. As such, I have really no interest in letting myself get attached to any of the characters, which is kind of affecting the quality of my reading.

City of Ashes
Tumblr media
Wow.
I liked this book!
You can see my review of Book 1 here. For some time I really just considered my decision to re-read these old YA books as watching bad reality TV (especially with how awful 'Hush Hush' was) but this book was when I felt the gears in my head shift and I realised I was genuinely enjoying the story.
It took me a while to get started because I was reading other books but ever since I finished 'Suddenly a Murder' (and finished writing a chapter of a fanfic that was keeping me occupied), I told myself I'd refocus on getting this one done. Today I was feeling... not great in the morning, and I used this book as a distraction, thinking I'd probably finish it over the next few days (hopefully).
I finished it in like five hours. 💀
People can complain about this book (rightfully so, it's far from perfect) but it was easy to read and very addictive. I don't remember having had this much enjoyment reading it as a teen; it felt like a tedious haze in my memory. And because I don't remember 80% of this book, almost everything felt brand new to me.
Things I liked:
The Inquisitor. I get she's painted to be a villain but I need to say that I didn't really pay her much attention UNTIL 3/4 INTO THE BOOK WHEN THEY SAID HER SON WAS A HERONDALE AND I WAS LIKE, WAIT. BACK UP. So I went to search up "Herondale" and I FUCKING REALISED THEY INTRODUCED HER AS INQUISITOR HERONDALE AT FHE START AND I MISSED IT. I'm actually really glad I missed it because I'd have known her connection to Jace from the beginning, and now I get to be like OH MY FUCKING GOSH when I realise she's probably his grandmother (?). When you see the antagonism she regarded him with for most of the book and then you realise the connection… and SHE herself realised it… I AM SHOOKETH. Granted, readers are supposed to only connect the dots in the next book, but whatever. I get the epiphany NOW.
She's honestly such a nuanced and great character. She felt like a mix of Umbridge (minus the pink and the simpering and all that gross shit) and Elias' mother from Ember in the Ashes. She made a massive mistake but you realise where she was coming from at some point. You're not supposed to justify her actions, just understand where her head/heart was at.
I used to really dislike Luke when I read him as a teen and now I'm confused why I did because I really like him? I think he's such a sweet soul and he's Clary's real dad at heart, not Valentine.
OOH! When the Unseelie Court was unveiled, I was so excited because after reading Cruel Prince I have a fresh perspective of fae that I didn't used to have reading this as a teen. I liked the Queen and overall how the fae was written. It's really similar to how I think they should be written (IMO). And it was nice tying that thread up at the end, even if a little sloppily. I really wish Cassandra would write a book with a fae lead but she seems to be good friends with Holly Black and that could be a bit weird? I don't know.
Also I really like Cassandra Clare's prose. I personally felt it was one of the better ones out there (or maybe I just feel this way after reading 'Hush Hush'). Maybe it's just more the style I like, even if some dialogue can be a bit cringe at times.
The conversation between Maryse and Jace was really moving at the end. And just their relationship in general. I love that she DID love him, and saw him as one of her children from the start. I didn't have the best impression of her when she first appeared, but it's great for my perception to evolve over the course of the story.
Valentine is… interesting. As a teen I thought he was a rather clichéd villain (I mean… he IS), but he fills that established trope quite well.
Magnus Magnus MAGNUS. Need I say more? He shone in almost every one of his cameos.
Even Alec, who I find pretty boring, had his moment in this book. He pretended to side with the Inquisitor and then went to find Jace to help get him out of the prison. Granted, Alec still isn't anywhere as interesting as I wished he could be—especially compared to MAGNUS—but he was more decent than I expected.
Really liked how the Fearless rune came into play!!!!!!!
I liked that scene where Jace and Clary talked outside the shower at his place. Most people probably won't like that scene because of the whole sibling shebang, but I enjoyed it. Jace was pretty upfront about things… though given the ending, I don't expect that to recur in the next book.
Despite how old this book is, and the occasional girl-on-girl hate that I can't stand, Cassie does a pretty okay job at fleshing out female characters other than Clary. Isabelle is decent, and Maia is an interesting addition (I know she and Simon are getting together but whatever). For its time, this book is mostly all right save for a few problematic liners, and I'll give Cassie props for that. (For now. I'll see for the next book.)
Things I didn't like;
Simon, PLEASE GO AWAY. THE WORST PART IS I KNOW YOU WON'T GO AWAY BECAUSE I REMEMBER YOU BEING IN ALL THE BOOKS IN THIS SERIES. T_T He was the worst part of the story for me and cutting down most of his scenes would have made me so happy. When he showed up "dead" because the vampires attacked him, I was like, why do you give me false hope? When Valentine "killed" him again, I was like, FALSE HOPE NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE? SHAME ON YOU. This ugly ass won't stay dead. 😭 He's a tiny parasite that latches on for fucking dear life—my brother in Christ, what were you even doing in the Unseelie Court? He had no role or business there; it's like bringing a wailing baby on a plane. Cassie has to turn him into a vampire to make him halfway relevant but I just DON'T CARE. He was pretty much Ron Weasley in Harry Potter's body and I hated Ron. He tries to be funny but he isn't funny and he's just jealous and rageful most of the time and, like…
Look, I know this is a lot of Simon talk. But I'm still not done. I'm just adding another bullet point because the paragraph was too long. :') Anyway. You know what Simon says? He says this to Clary when she admits she loved Jace:
He smiled at her. It was a sad smile with something else underneath. "You know what the worst feeling I can imagine is?" She blinked at him. "No." "Not trusting the person I love more than anything else in the world."
Babe, that was really #deep but just because she didn't like you back doesn't mean you can't trust her??? She's still your friend. She is NOT entitled to like you back and trust isn't contingent on your romantic affections being reciprocated. You are not entitled to having them reciprocated just because you were her best friend for years. That's classic "nice guy" manipulation tactics. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So you're saying because she didn't like you back, all those years of friendship are flushed down the drain and no more trust is left? I don't know how much more of this incel I can stomach. 🤮 Every time Clary sobbed in grief for him, I was like: sometimes we just gotta let that pimple pop and let him go, babe.
I gotta move on. Anyway: I didn't even get to see Alec and Magnus get together in the first place. T_T I have to see chapters in Nice Guy Simon's head but I don't get much of Alec or Magnus' POV here? It's not fair!!!!!!! I felt like I was missing a lot of things about them and how they got together in the first place.
I'm not a huge fan of Clary and Jace being speshul people with speshul powers but eh. It's not a giant gripe but at least Clary doesn't become a combat expert overnight so I'll take that.
I find Jace and Clary's love for each other a little unconvincing but it could be worse, I guess.
JACE, I know he's technically immature/a child but he really should have watched his mouth more with the Inquisitor. The first time he was sent to prison, I thought he deserved it with how he was mouthing off to her. But then later he showed a lot of self-discipline/sensibility with the Fair Folk so I was a little thrown by the whiplash. Again, it's not a major gripe, but yeah.
I'm going to end the review here. Overall, I'm shocked by how much I liked this book given its poor reviews on GR, but we'll see how the next book fares for me (if I do get to read it… or finish it). I do want to add that the sibling thing doesn't faze me like it does many because I know in retrospect that it isn't true, and just… My brain is too screwed-up, I guess? I need to stop reading so many disturbing thrillers. Or manga.
But let me tell you: it felt REALLY surreal upping the book from the 3 stars I'd given it as a teen to 4. I've almost NEVER done that with an old read before.

Hot take but I don’t think SJM had any plans for an Azriel book/making him a love interest until she and the publishers noticed how popular he is. I do believe she’s excited to tell his story, as she said, but “3 brothers with 3 sisters” was never the plan - SJM said she was planning on making Lucien and Nesta mates before she realized they were ill suited and decided to make Cassian her mate (good choice, imo). Then proceeded to say Elain was the one she and Lucien never saw coming. Why would she give Lucien so much family drama, hidden powers and a direct link to Koschei with Vassa if he “wasn’t important enough to have a POV”? Why make him and Elain so well matched if they weren’t endgame? Charming, well-dressed duo who hates violence is much more appealing than yet another brooding, depressed hero with sunshine girl who hates violence.
It’s why I’m not all that excited about Gwynriel book. With the way Gwyn was set up in ACOSF, it’s gonna be all “I’m not worthy” from two POVs. It’s a bit weird. I get survivor’s guilt, but she was protecting the children, not cowering in a corner while her sister was killed. It’s too dramatic to think people will hate her for it and not see her as a hero.
Here here!
I also got the vibe that SJM hadn't really put a lot of thought into Azriel until ACOFAS, not anymore than she did, say....Amren or Helion. Those characters were important, just as all her other characters are and I do think she initially thought Mor would end up with Az but not in a, "they'll definitely get their own book" way.
And definitely not the same level of thought she put into Lucien's character.
It doesn't matter how little page time Lucien has had recently when you think about why that is.
Lucien is not part of the IC, he's never going to be a permanent part of the IC. So what exactly would people have him do on page when we're getting a Feyre / Rhys / Cassian / Nesta / Mor POV in ACOWAR, ACOFAS, and ACOSF and most of that occurs in the NC?
Even though he's not around much, SJM still decided to change who his father was after deciding he and Elain would be mates, she still decided to point out that just because he had to wear Illyrian leathers it did not mean he was going to be a part of the NC (and she also made sure to mention how Elain refused to wear those same leathers), she made sure to point out that Elain needs sunshine when Lucien's father is the High Lord of Day (the sun personified which SJM included in ACOWAR, the same book she mentioned Elain needing sunshine), she made sure to mention how he's still tied to Spring in a major way when the NC really needs an alliance with Spring and the court back to it's full strength, she made sure to mention how friendly he's become with Vassa and Jurian (a big deal when you consider how she's building a major conflict between the Fae and Human Queens), she made sure to tell us how he's developing the markers of a High Lord (commanding Cassian with a single word), she made sure to remind us that he still expresses longing for Elain, that even though he was in a war he still never wants to be involved in one again which Elain liked hearing considering she smiled at him, reminded us that he's never gotten revenge on anyone who probably deserved it as well as informing us that cruelty bothers Elain, made sure we knew that Feyre is now rooting for Elucien, Rhys is rooting for Elucien, Cassian feels sorrow for Lucien, Nesta is now warming up to Lucien and Elain and Lucien are still experiencing tension (mentioning how Lucien is not "always in the city to see my mate" which is exactly like Cassian mentioning "not everything is about your sister" in reference to Nesta) which is the hallmark for her endgame couples eventually getting together.
This has all been building for a long time and I do think they should have their story told before Az. Az isn't just a mess, he's a mess that really has no business falling in love with anyone else right now.
And I do understand what you're saying in your last paragraph.
I'd much rather read about the underdog story that would be Elucien than read about two characters who are brave and worthy, which can't be denied, yet for some reason they still don't see it. Literally no one but Gwyn and Az would call them anything but brave so a Gwynriel book would end up being a book where the entire point is for them to finally realize what others have seen all along. That seems less exciting to me. It's sort of like Thor in Endgame, he was more annoying to me then because he couldn't handle that he wasn't able to defeat Thanos. But none of them were able to. So the huge guilt trip he placed on himself wasn't as enjoyable of a storyline to me as the characters who (while still feeling some guilt) were able to keep moving forward. Because it seemed a completely unnecessary guilt trip.
But an Elucien book would be two characters proving to everyone how capable they are even though the others never thought it possible and I find that sort of thing to be extremely inspirational. Rocky, Seabiscuit, Secretariat, Cool Runnings (😂), the hobbits from The Lord of the Rings, and so on.

I'll bite. What's the supernatural creature au?
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUU i am spiritually giving you a hug if you're comfy with that. anyways
supernatural creature au is what happened when i watched twilight on new years eve and got the fatal hubris arc of "i could do that too" and then i spent the early hours of 2023 brainworming with alex
anyways. important things beneath the cut:
main plot:
yuno, mimosa, and klaus are all working for a monster hunting company (idk if its the right term. group?) (run by william (it's the golden dawn stand in)) and they go to this isolated ass washington town to stand in and see if there's any supernatural activity and if the dawn needs to intervene. however yuno finds out asta is living there after going missing when they were eight and he's like "OK i need to figure out what happened why is asta living with vampires what the fuck."
lore:
hunters: humans (traditionally, although there have been some inhuman hunters) who study or kill the supernatural. these people usually have the sight, which is something that allows them to see a supernatural's identity in the form of an aura. it doesnt protect them from getting Fucked Up by their quarry but they do at least know who they're looking for
vampires: all stem from the witch queen and have their own families which fall under the queen's umbrella family. the witch queen very rarely turns people herself. her "daughters" (the other witches) are full vampires and are more superior than those who are turned in terms of power.
the werewolves and the fae kinda. they're classic legends they vibin i think
roster:
humans:
yuno, half-fae which makes him immune to most charms by other creatures, he doesnt know this tho so he just thinks he got extra blessed by the sight, he's genuinely kind of curious about this stuff, he's a sweet boye
klaus, group mom, entirely human, he is so so tired he's got yuno and mimosa on child leashes at all times
mimosa, doesn't actually wanna hurt anyone, she's looking for her cousin who also went missing
gordon, he's fully 100% human but no one thinks he is because he's so weird :( sorry king
asta, is he entirely human? no one knows. he never had the sight to begin with and that's either because he just wasnt predisposed or he's Something Else
william, he's the head of their gang(?) and he may or may not be married to an unseelie faery
julius, william's superior/father figure, he's just a sweet lil guy,,,
vampires:
vanessa, princess of the undead, mommy issues supreme, she owns a club called "love bites" and she thinks its funny
finral, officially her thrall and unofficially her girlfriend, came from a family of hunters but like asta never got the sight. he's not a vampire per se, but he's not entirely human after being vanessa's for so long though
noelle, vanessa's newest addition to her little squad, abandonment issues up the wazoo, she's got a wicked grudge she wants to kill nozel watch out braid bitch (mimosa is very confused upon seeing her)
gauche, vanessa's other addition, he's been Around for a while and he begged nessa to turn him so he could protect marie (marie's a vampire too she's just kinda hanging around)
nacht, mentally ill bitch from the 1800's with a grudge against the witch queen a mile fucking wide, he doesnt actually belong to the vampire families like most of the other vampires despite being turned by the witch queen
magna, bruiser from the 30's who nacht initially recruited to try and kill the witch queen who he then turned after magna was killed by a rival gang. he's been adopted. the only one who knows how to piss off nacht at any given moment
the witch queen, queen of the undead, she's a freak nuff said
werewolves:
yami, single dad who works two jobs, was a hunter before being turned and then his dad tried to kill him for it, he isnt in contact with ichika any more because he doesn't want to hurt her
luck, turned by yami age five and spent most of his time until he was twelve in dog form, he's still learning how to be human, killed his mom on his first transformation
zora, came around to yami's house fairly recently, he's still on the lookout for the bitches who killed his dad, he's a born werewolf so you can see how this caused lots of problems for his dad (also a werewolf)
charmy, just kind of showed up one day, perpetually hungry, has the power to fistfight an elder god but she won't bc she is Sleepy, best dogform for hugs
other:
secre, a human cursed to be a bird by the fae, she's sick of this life but she does enjoy being Held
henry, a ghost who haunts the bookshop nacht owns, asta is his bestever friend
grey, a shapeshifter who lives in the woods and will bite you if they get the chance they have trust issues :(
rufel, seelie of the summer courts, gay ass, owns the mushroom circle in yami's backyard
patri, unseelie of the autumn court, met william when he was fairly young for fae standards and as such never developed the dismissive attitude the others in his court have towards humans
yeah thats about it for like. bulletpoint sparknotes for this <3

Royalty au part 4 : The Legendary Chalice and the Dish Brothers
[Here's part 4 guys! i know no one reads this shit but im posting it anyway]
Cuphead and Mugman were known prodigies. They took down several knights who trained them, they took time taking down King Kettle though. And when they were kids, they used to call him 'Elder Kettle' since he was around his 60's when he found them. The twins questioned who their parents were and sadly, Elder Kettle only responded, "They were great people, killed by the cruel monsters of this world. Goblins, faes, dwarves."
Mugman was closer to the old kettle than Cuphead, who focused more on honing his skills.
As they grew older, Kettle told them why he didn't had any heirs, his queen died as she was also a knight who died in vain. He tried to rescue her but it was too late, so he vowed to protect people from monsters and keep them safe as possible. It was a legacy he passed onto the cup brothers. Elder kettle is currently very old but still alive, he is assisted by Duke Dice (ik its king dice but for the sake of cringiness, lets change it). A mysterious man who appeared out of nowhere, Cuphead and Mugman felt weird about him, like they feel he was a threat, but they shook it off.
Mugman and Cuphead were on a mission to kill the monster lurking at the Inkwell Isles, surprisingly it was a beautiful mermaid in the name of Cala Maria. It was love at first sight for Mugman, but for Cuphead it was a monster. They fought her and managed to take her down, but Mugsy here begged Cuphead to not kill her.
"But how about the mission, Mugman? Yiu know she's a threat to the people!" Cuphead explained.
"I'll keep her! Uhh..." Mugman looked at the ground sheepishly. Cuphead raised his one brow to signal him to continue.
"Don't worry I'll--"
"Nah! Enough of your explanation! You're a tamer anyway." he cut Mugman off and waved a hand over his shoulder. Letting Mugman know he's able to befriend the mermaid. He smiled happily and told her she was spared. At first, their interaction was pretty rough, but overtime she warmed up to him.
They then started a relationship, "Well, that escalated quickly--" this was Cuphead's pure reaction.
"Heya boys!" a woman called at them.
"Wouldya look at that! Chalice! You're here!" Cuphead greeted Ms. Chalice with a fistbump and went to a silly handshake. Mugman tagged along too.
They were on a mission to stop a scientist from going insane with his experiments, and the higher ups decided to let Chalice join the progidies. Normally, the twins would reject another knight, but this was Ms. Chalice! She was their best sparring buddy as kids, even till now. The Legendary Chalice, she was called like that due to her powers and skill were from their history. The history of Calix Animi, an organization of knights formed to serve and protect the Inkwell Isles. One of the characteristics of Chalice's powers and skill is her ability to utilize both a spear and her finger guns. Even her Supers too, the cupbros have identical Supers, but for Chalice it was unique and almost from history. She also accomplished so many missions on her own.
The Calix Animi respected her so they promoted her to a higher position. And for the Cupbros, they were promoted to a higher position too, but they stayed as normal knights for some reason. They didn't want to be a captain like Ms. Chalice.
And then a new girl shows up to town, Holly May. She opened up her 'Enchanted Store' in the Inkwell Isles. It is now famous since she provided everything a knight needs, though ever since she came, a problem bloomed its way. Many suspected that it was her, but she didn't know anything. And of course, the twins, Chalice and Cala naturally defended her. It eventually cooled down but the problem was still there
The Witch still lurks at night.

Evil Verse Muse Ideas
Kesil: He lost Artemis in a traumatic way (either from one their earlier near escapes or he 'eats' him) and basically became like Vasily, known exterminator of anything with fangs and blood diet. His weird humor gets dialed up to sadistic and cruel and he just has pleasure in harm. Like he maintains his charisma but his aura is like death. Oh and one of those verses he masters his personal power, so untouchable by death and able to bring the curtain down on anyone he wants.
Eriskyne: Basically went full on machiavellian schemer and for some reason views the entirety of the Seelie as their target. And all of it needs to be in shambles. And they want to do it in some method that twists the pride or goal of his targets. From turning the king's paranoia to 100 to causing whispers amongst the gentry of possible (but in reality completely false) method to gain control of the Seelie to starting a rebellion of the humans and other beings that have been taken by the fae. They want bloodshed and torment with as little physical doing on their own part (not that they won't abscond from it).
Artemis: idk the catalyst but he becomes real debonair but he uses it for cold and calculated moves. He is like a perfect gentleman but has so many tools at his disposal because he just drained people for their ability and got really good at them. Dispassionate but so eerily patient in his endeavors. Honestly? Not the worst outcome to me. Basically the definition of 'god had to give me self-esteem issues or I would have bested him in combat years ago.'
Eiji: Aha, there is a possibility within his future where he discovered who cursed him. And there is this and basically his last chance to regain his former life is dashed. The hatred and doubt and fear in his heart manifests scarily fast as a grudge. That grudge consumes him before it consumes the tatarigami that ruined him. So he becomes like a newborn evil curse with the powers at a calamity level. And with the pain and hate, Eiji just wants all to suffer because if his good end has been robbed from him, he will rob the masses of everything.
Aspis: I actually have two versions. One is if he either returned or had from the start dealt with the infernal and like the environment or the time with them changed him. Kinda Y.iling P.atriarch vibes but more just destruction for destruction's sake. And in a way, he uses that kind charm of his to its worst potential to bewitch others do for him and do it willfully. The other is if he failed to have a support system and basically lost all the passion and love that made Aspis...well, Aspis. He became a 'hunter of hunters,' that is a little too into his work and has minions not friends. As in he has beaten a lot of beings and forced them into subservience. That version of him kinda reminds me of Greed from F.MA that he's like 'you are mine so I will care for you because you're mine.'
Altyn: Apparently just Altyn, fewer morals. The ramifications of that terrify me. She is already the lower moral haver between herself and Zhifeng. You add that she is willing to do anything for her pay? Oh man. She is the one that supplied much of the people that are trapped by the village. She seduced them with their greatest wants to enslave them. She bullies investors and even seedy organization heads to take on her business endeavors which range from the selling of the village resources to full on making people disappear. Also she's quite the bastard towards nonhumans because there's 'just a river of gold flowing through them.' And she's capricious as hell, making others afraid because she might just strike you down because she needed some relief.
Crowe: Boy, it sure would be a bad time if he lost his friendship. It's where Crowe's overwhelming fear and paranoia of not being trusted or loved breaks him. He's been hurt for the last time (Queen of Mean intensifies in background). If he's the bad guy then fine, he'll be the goddamn devastation you all will quiver to. Storm summoner, mass hysteria inducer and part time god devourer to take their essence and traits to make him an even better god. Because yeah, he literally cast his humanity aside. While his grandmother likely took advantage of him at his lowest, she underestimated that Crowe is a 'by any means' man and a man with nothing left to lose.

So, about the ending for my sequel fic. I have musings about what might happen in Malleus and Rollo's lives after the fic ends
Spoilers and stuff. Also things might get weird. This isn't like ~canon~ to the fic necessarily but they are the vibes I get
First, the goat, since I've thought about this a lot.
Rollo will take Mallenette to some kind of farm with the intention of picking out a goat. Mallenette will see a hunchbacked one that is not conventionally cute and insist on it, wailing and crying when Rollo initially refuses. Begrudgingly, he adopts the goat for her. Mallenette and the goat become great friends, but the goat seems to like Rollo over all others and even follows him around the castle. Rollo is unsettled by the goat's appearance and initially tries to avoid Sunday. There'll be a scene where Sunday's following him and Rollo hurries to lose him, but he'll bleat pathetically because he can't keep up. Guilty, Rollo will wait for it. Sunday'll catch up and then bleat a thank you. Anyway, it'll be really cute, I swear.
If anyone asked, he would be like, "I hate Sunday," while totally petting him. Very "no we can't get a cat" dad energy
In the novel, Frollo and Quasimodo are initially close because Frollo raises him as best he can, teaches him sign language because he's deaf, etc, and Quasimodo is kinda devoted to him. So, he will come to love Sunday.
Next, and the weirdest, is that Malleus will eventually think to himself, "Rollo will die. but I can magically store his seed and keep having his children even after he's gone... then it will be like having a new piece of him, over and over" and he'll just do that without consulting anyone, let alone Rollo. Not sure how many children is 'normal' for fae, but Malleus will have more than that for sure
if this happens, let's say he tops out at 25 kids because by then he'll have a realization like "maybe this isn't a good idea" but it'll be too late. If you have that many heirs that are raised kind of independently of each other, what might happen? Succession fights~ At least for the ones that decide they want to stay in Briar Valley, I imagine some would be like "Eh, fuck this, I'll go live with humans." What if a bunch kill each other to try and gain the throne? Considering their double villain heritage and Rollo's schemin' genes, things would probably get bad unless they were directed into something else or they were taken out of the running for the throne. Maybe only children born while Rollo was alive count? Kinda fucked up but it would limit the amount in line to about 4ish. Also, who's raising these kids? That's a lot of nannies...
Either way, Mallenette, being the eldest and probably the one Malleus favors because she is his heir, will survive and claim the throne. I think her reign would be a struggle because the fae around her would see her as lesser. She would be pressured to produce heirs asap since she won't live as long as a normal fae. She'll end up marrying a fae, but one of low rank, so they can't make any attempts to supplant her as queen
Okay, getting away from that...
Third, they'll have like four kids. Mallenette, another girl, a boy, and I dunno another girl maybe. Once they have a little boy, Rollo is going to unconsciously favor him. He may even spoil him, resulting in a brat child (kind of like Jehan in the novel), but hopefully he doesn't go all in. I figure with maturity he might be able to stop himself. He'll also want to name him Jehan, but Malleus will veto that for good reason. Rollo'll have to settle for Jehan as a middle name
Rollo's efforts to spread the fae method of detecting magical ability before birth has some success. In the Shaftlands it might become standard practice, but other places could see it as an unnecessary expense. Still, his efforts will help some children and that is progress
When Rollo dies, Malleus will have him buried in the City of Flowers. he'll make a whole royal visit to the city, deal with ambassadors and local government etc, so he can attend the funeral. The gargoyles will also attend, but Malleus will be so distraught that he won't be able to talk to them
Malleus'll be in mourning for the rest of his life. I imagine knowing their king is so devoted to one human that might ease some of the anti-human sentiment in Briar Valley. Some maybe would have assumed he had a human fetish or something before
Also, Sebek will brag about Mallenette and the other kids as if they were his children. Speaking of him, I imagine Malleus and Rollo's kids will go through a "I hate being half-human" phase, too. Their father can transform into a sick dragon, but they can't, they can't teleport, etc. Though I also wouldn't be surprised if one of them felt closer to human culture and instead lamented being a horned weirdo that people are afraid of.
That's all I can think of for now. If anyone has questions or something, I'd be happy to answer, too
