Lil Prague Tea Bloggin:
Todays stop: Banna House - Čajová komnata. Guys. If you're ever in Prague, make this tearoom one of your priorities! I have to say, it was more of a teashop? But did it leave an impression! It was mostly filled with ceramics, but there was also a table for sitting, tea master lady seated us and gave us two free tea degustations. She started talking about Xishuangbanna, a province in Yunnan, where she's from.
First degustation was a puerh- Ziya Dashu Shengcha. My god, never thought I'd ever enjoy a puerh this much, it was sweet! Yes, you heard me right, I quickly told the lady that I have never tasted a better puerh in my life, she explained a lot of tea lovers are very mistaken with puerhs. Apparently the natives, where she's from, very much enjoy sweet teas - "life is bitter, why should the tea be too". Changed my life with that sentence ngl. Puerh was mellowish, sweet, honey aftertaste!

Second tea- Manwa Yesheng Yabao. Such a sweet white tea, I somehow tasted a slight lychee lemonade and roses. Best white tea ever!
The ceramics were pretty cheap, staff was attentive, teas tasted amazing. All in all, 10outta10yall.

2021 Long Tang Old Tree | Raw Puerh | Yunnan Sourcing
This sheng greets you with a surprising smoky camphor note for its young age. The aroma is sweet, with a touch of beets and plums. The flavor profile is herbaceous, sweet, and fruity, with a hint of hay. There’s almost a sugary quality to it. These unexpected flavors continue to unfold each sip with little bitterness despite its youth.

Getting into gongfu style tea! I thought it might be helpful to keep track of my preferences as I delve into the many categories of tea out there. Today’s tea is my first sheng puerh! Part of Yunnan Sourcing’s First Steps tea sampler, harvested in 2020. It’s interesting but I think I prefer the ripe/shou puerh that came in the same sampler as there’s an astringency with the sheng. I’ll have to try a more aged one next time I place a tea order to compare.

Short guide to get into Gongfu cha as a Beginner
So you wanna start and get into some high grade intact loose leaf tea? that's wonderful! Here are some things you should orient yourself with. First I recommend getting a cheap Gaiwan and a cup and sampling your way around! you gotta know what you like in order to let your tastes develop and your preferences form after all.
Tumblr media
A Gaiwan is simply a cup with a lid and sometimes a saucer, it's a brewing vessel and the most simple there is! You simply put in the tealeaves, then add water, put the lid on in the correct position and, depending on size and grip, pour into the cup to make an infusion step. Making tea this way has various benefits, one of the biggest is that it is simply tastier than teabags and also yields more tea! Teabags have tea in them which is "dust" or "fannings" grade or simply broken up, this means that the extraction efficiency and time is strong, but with that you extract the entirety of the tea all at once, it's as if you were to listen to an entire album all at once on a low volume compared to brewing gong fu style where you listen to each song of the album step by step at decent volume, noticing the changes and the way it plays out. For the cup I recommend either getting 1 cup that has the same volume of your Gaiwan or getting 3 cups that have about 40% volume of your gaiwan so you can do what's called Chaozhou Style Gongfu brewing and essentially pouring the tea in a circular motion between the three tea cups. As for sampling, for the start I recommend getting a cheap yunnan black tea, a green tea, a white tea and with oolongs, get a green oolong like a Tie Guan Yin, a Dancong, a Yancha and potentially a darker roasted oolong. If you are daring also get a sample of Sheng and Shuo puerh to see if it's to your taste.
How to brew once you've got the equipment:
I recommend taking a good amount of tea like 5 to 10 grams per 100ml, using 80 to 95° c Water depending on how dark the tea is, i.e. green tea 80, green oolong 80-85°, darker oolong 90°, black tea 95°, puerh(sheng and shuo) 100° to clean and sterilize. Puerh has to be washed with a short rinse before u should drink it so just throw the first very short steep away.
For the length of the steep, usually you don't need to wait longer than 10-25 seconds to already pour into your cup, with puerh I would even do flashsteeps and almost immediately pour it into the cup! The steep time each step will usually look like this 10s - 5s- 10s- 15s - 30s - 60s The first needs a bit to soak and awaken the leaves, the 2nd and 3rd are usually always the strongest, then the following gradually go longer to stay at a certain level of extraction.
For beginners I usually recommend looking at Yunnansourcing, I don't recommend getting anything other than glass or porcelain regarding their wares!

2017 Chen Sheng Hao Banzhang Ancient Tree Brick - Sheng Puerh from Puerh.UK
2017 Chen Sheng Hao Banzhang Ancient Tree Brick – Sheng Puerh from Puerh.UK
“Imagination is the only weapon in the war with reality.” – Lewis Carroll The real world’s coming. First moment of every morning, right there.. knock knock knockin’. I try to let it slide. Water off a duck’s back. I side step. I maneuver. I hide. I make art. Tick-Tock goes the clock. The bills keep coming. The gray hairs multiply. The cars get bigger and faster and the price of those little…

2004 Nanqiao Bulang King | Teas We Like | Raw Puerh
Tumblr media
Aroma is a cooling, smokey, incense. Medicinal at first with some wood smells coming in underneath it all. Very bitter wood chip kind of start, so I steeped for shorter periods of time and the tea kept its color. After dodging around the bitterness, later steeps get some pine flavors and a creamy texture. After the first few steeps, this sheng goes from bitter wood to a milky, sweet, herby drink. Lots of flavors I look for in sheng. Qi hits really strong at first, can and will knock you out. Glad I stuck with this one, it ended up being very enjoyable.
Cannot believe it’s Monday already o_o I really enjoyed this sheng, much more than expected. It’s a good example of what I like about sheng puerh.

Dark Rose - Story of My Tea
Tumblr media
As you can see, this tea is in the shape of a heart! It smells like rose florals and woodsy black tea.
Tumblr media
Steep this tea at 205F for 2-3 minutes. You can get roughly 3+ steeps out of it.
Tumblr media
The brewed aroma is strong but not purfumey like I expected. The tea broke up into a lovely brew and the color was like dark amber. Taste wise this tea had tones of rose, smooth woodsy notes and lingering floral. Overall this tea is very pleasant and easy to sip on a chilly day. It had its own level of sweetness so I didnt’ feel like I had to add anything extra. For a scented black tea this is a great choice.
Unfortunately this tea is part of a kick starter that I helped photography wise so you can’t get it individually, but if you are slightly new to the tea journey dipping your toes into loose leaf, I definitely recommend getting a subscription from them! You can find this tea here.
ALSO! I launched my blogger website for dedicated tea reviews! If you prefer that platform - be sure to check it out here!

If you have any questions comments or concerns please feel free to send me a PM! Want to decide which tea I review next? Don’t hesitate to ask!
