Probably going to get hate for this. But would anyone in West Virginia would have cared if these two girls who were in a relationship were murdered instead of their friend, in hate crime because their friend outed them? Or would anyone cared that they killed themselves because they were outed? Especially since its in West Virginia, one of the girls parents were super religious Christians. Im not saying that Skylar deserve to get murdered. Hell no she did not. But I can see how the situation is fucking complicated. Especially since they were all teenagers. And the two girls were trying to figure out their sexualities. People do not understand what hate is like especially in places in Virginia! For people of lgbtq and color or both. So saying something like 'Skylar would not have outed them she had tons of friends who were lgbtq.' Is basically same thing as saying 'oh shes not racist, she has tons of black friends.' Thats not the point. She threatened to out someone. Two people in a relationship. The whole situation from both sides sound super toxic. And I wish parents from all three of these girls could have seen that. And that it did not get to this fucking level. That three lives did not have to be ruined. I wish the girls didn't feel that desperate to do something that horrible to their friend to protect themselves. That they lived some place where they did not have to deal with homophobia and had to fear being outed by their friend. That the girl with the super religious parents could have trusted her parents enough to come out to them. But what do I know? Again this will probably get me a lot of hate. I dont me to be hurtful. I just wanted to state my opinion. I watched a documentary about these girls and I'm constantly hit with the black and white thinking from the cops in this documentary. You know how I feel about and about the justice system and cops in general. Its all messed up. This whole situation is complicated and you should not look at this situation with black and white thinking. I just constantly think about those three girls. Those three friends and think this did not need to happen. It should not have happened.

A decade ago, a high school girl was killed because of LGBTQ bigotry. In short, she threatened to “out” a pair of girls whom she knew were in a lesbian relationship. So they murdered her to keep it secret. The girls were suspected of the murder and eventually confessed at some point. One of them led police to the body some months later. They were both convicted and sent to prison with the possibility of parole.

The parole hearing for one of them was just recently. People had been speculating as to the motive for the killing but it was never confirmed. Until the parole hearing that is. The girl was asked why did they murder the other girl and she replied it was to keep their relationship a secret because they feared the repercussion from their families and church.

So basically Christians preaching hateful LGBTQ messages was the root of this girls murder. So while this doesn’t apply to “all Christians”, we know there’s no shortage of stories of LGBTQ kids being abused and tortured by their Christian families. Everything from disowning and kicking them out to sending them off to remote gulags where staff is basically free to do whatever to them until they convince said staff they’re straight.

16-year-old Skylar Neese had a 4.0 GPA, a part-time job at Wendy’s and an active social life. Skylar loved her dog, Leeloo, and playing the flute. She dreamed of becoming a criminal lawyer and settling down and starting a family of her own. “She had the cutest little laugh. She was an adorable little thing. She was always laughing and joking and she liked to pull pranks on people,” recalled Skylar’s aunt, Carol Michaud.1

Her two best friends were Rachel Shoaf and Shelia Eddy . All three girls attended University High School in Morgantown, West Virginia, and “you barely ever saw one of them by themselves,” according to another friend. They aptly nicknamed themselves “The Three Mustakteers.”

Skylar had been friends with Shelia since they were young children but the duo became a trio in high school when they met Rachel. Skylar’s father said that Skylar’s two friends “walked in when they came here” and that they “didn’t even knock.” That’s how close the girls were; Skylar’s parents considered them family. Scrolling through their active social media accounts, one could get a glimpse into their world.

One night during a sleepover, Skylar witnessed Rachel and Shelia having sex. She would later write about this event in her diary and relay it to several friends. Feeling as though Skylar was “in the way” of their relationship and becoming bored of her being around, Rachel and Shelia decided they would kill Skylar....

Chapter One! Rocking Robin! Reborn Among Refuse!

The first thing Jason is aware of upon reawakening is pain. A pain that is numbing rapidly, granted, but pain nonetheless.

As the roaring pain in his head began to dull into a slight throb, more and more things began to run through his head. Number one; He was alive. How? He's not one hundred percent sure. Perhaps some point during the beating he had called for Clark or Kara had came to get him, got him and Shelia away from the clown? Makes as much sense as anything else he can think of at this point; hed have to thank them later.

(In this universe, I've chosen to have Kara show up around the same time jaosn first became robin, cause nightwing and Tim got to have all the young hero friends during their tenure, and jason only got Eddie Bloomburg. So, I've given him a few contemporaries that were unaffiliated with the titans at the time to compose of his hero friend group; so long story short, he and kara are friends)

The second thing he noticed was... he was DEFINITELY not in Ethiopia anymore. Listening closely, he could hear people speaking... Japanese?

No, not just speaking... someone was crying. Crying for help.

All of a sudden, the pain doesn't matter anymore. Where he is doesn't matter anymore. Someone needs help. And Robin will be DAMNED if he let's someone get hurt if he can help it; bad shape or not.

So, with that in mind, Jason moves out, getting to a rooftop and making his way to where he heard the cries, and what he sees pisses him off something fierce. 7 guys, with weird looking... things on their wrists, are beating the piss out of a kid with goggles, who's begging for his life at this point.

So Robin does what Robin does. He beats the ever loving SHIT out of the bullies, leaping down off the roof, putting himself between the other boy, and making quick work of the thugs while they were still in shock.

Part one of the job is done, so jason goes to comfort the younger man, helping him up, helping him pick up his... cards? Weird. Never seen this game before. Maybe he'd have B check it out when he got home; might be fun to try out on the weekends after homework gets done.

DEATH CLIQUE is based on the true story of Skylar Neese. Neese was an American teenage girl who disappeared from her home in Star City, West Virginia, around midnight on July 6, 2012. Neese's body was found in January 2013, across the nearby state line, in Wayne Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania.

Neese was murdered by two of her high school best friends, Shelia Eddy and Rachel Shoaf.

Honestly the Skylar Neese’s case is so sad but it’s so strange to me how much of the reporting I’ve heard has been about how much Shelia Eddy and Rachael Shoaf tweeted or posted on Instagram??

Tbf ive only really listened to podcasts about it but they keep having people on who say “without social media this would’ve never happened!!”

Nothing was planned on social media.

Meanwhile in Shoaf’s literal parole hearing she confesses that it was because she and Eddy were in a relationship and they were scared that Neese would say something and they would lose their place in the church and their families and friends. And this isn’t the first time this comes up! Like she said it before the parole hearing, but all these experts keep talking about how many times they tweeted that week.

Idk. Like maybe it has more to do with two queer kids —one of whom was also religious — in an unhealthy relationship in an bigoted society, with no support or options if things had turned out badly for them, (and it was 2012 their school lives would’ve become much harder, and although Shoaf’s family now accepts her it’s a lot harder to make that distinction when you’re 17 and it’s hard to say if they would have in 2012) and between the three of them there was also physical violence on multiple occasions that adults didn’t intervene with because it was all considered minor, which likely would’ve heightened the feeling that they lacked support from their families, rather than Twitter. 🧍but what do I know
