#shelf stable food

Non-perishable foods don’t require refrigeration, but are best kept cool and dry. If it sits on a shelf in the grocery store, it’s safe on the shelf in your home.
Temperature: Store products at less than 75°F (24°C) or lower, if possible. If storage temperatures are higher, rotate your food to maintain quality.
Moisture: Keep food storage areas dry. Keep containers off the floor to allow for air circulation.
Light: Keep food in opaque containers out of direct sunlight.
Insects and rodents: Protect food stored in foil pouches, cans, jars and bottles from rodent and insect damage.
Keep air out.  Store your food in meal sized portions, or a package size you can use up in less than a week once opened. If you buy in bulk, reseal in smaller packages.
Air is the enemy of long term food storage. Use vacuum sealed containers or Mylar for longer shelf life. Oxygen absorbers and/or vacuum sealing provide the longest shelf life.
Store what you eat and regularly use.

Okay. Is there any fandom consensus on what, if anything, Ted eats/drinks? I'm gonna have my foursome in a strategy session, and with the metabolisms and injuries involved here, they should all be in need of calories, so everyone's going to have something. I'm happy to go semi-canonical (Ted drinks tea; no one knows how) or even full silly (Ted, why do you have an entire box of fresh macarons in the middle of the fucking forest?), but if there's some popular fanon about Ted loving hamburgers or pineapple or something, I'd like to know.

It's wild that I will just straight up forget I've had POTS since I was a young teenager.
And then it comes back and I'm like "oh my God am I dying?"
And my partner is like "sounds like the condition you've had almost your whole life."

friends. romans. not romans. whoever u r. listen. listen 2 me and this life hack.
buy capers (if u like the taste. if not then rip and sorry. i like them very much.)
trader joes has a p big jar of 'em for like, $3. they are delicious and will last forever also will make you feel like u r fancy and eating a proper meal somehow.
fifth night of buttered noodles bcos u have nothing else? toss a few capers on there.
putting fake bacon bits on toast bcos it's basically like a breakfast? capers. (also toss all that under the broiler for a hot second. careful not to burn.)
eating scraps of cheese in the middle of the night bcos u hyperfocused on a project and no longer have frozen burritos for emergencies? add capers. now practically charcuterie.
got those frozen burritos again? capers on 'em. for funsies. inauthentic but fancy as fuck.
(while ur at it, get one of those squeezy bottles of lemon juice. yes i know it's not as good as fresh lemons. but sometimes you will forget about your lemons and they will go bad right when u remembered them for a dish ur halfway through cooking, and then where will u be? squeezy lemon juice. plus it's fun to add to things and feel fancy. 'really brightens up the whole thing' you can say about your cheese scraps with lemon juice.)

i've never done a subscription box before but i went and committed myself to three months of this thing from bon appetit where they send me ingredients and then give me recipes that feature those ingredients. the hope is that this will help decision paralysis i have around dinner because like i paid for this box so i am obligated to put this chili crisp in this noodles recipe. at the end of these three months i will either feel like a genius or just have a bunch of weird unopened things in my pantry.

Oh great, Campbells decided to cut the quality of their soup ingredients yet again :/
Tumblr media
This soup used to look like the picture on the can.
I cannot emphasize enough the pale orange of the broth, lack of anything but barley and they somehow found an even cheaper cut of pressed beef chunks.

I am not as enamored of Costco as some but I admit they do sell my new favorite snack in the world. these shiitake crisps are so good it's insane. I would eat these for every meal if I could.

note for those who enjoy wet food, this soup + whatever tortellini or ravioli you like + a bagged salad kit = top tier zero effort dinner. pasta cooks in the soup. throw in some red pepper flakes and basil and a splash of cream if you have it. zero prep minimal dishes maximum yummy.

the last time I was out of nut butter I went to the grocery store to get my usually top 9 allergen free suflower butter and they only had the zero sugar kind. fine, I'll try it. it's. not great.
this time I came back with the "crunchy" formulation and there are just. whole sunflower seeds in there. I don't know what I expected. it's really good
