Ok considering i have sheith shippers/defenders dni in my intro post and I really dont feel like wasting my time today ill try to keep it short and wont be responding to shit like this down the line. Next time save your breath though. Because idk if you knew this but dni stands for Do Not Interact. You are interacting. Stop that.

1) they’re brothers. Sure it’s revealed much later in the seasons, but the point is they have an incredibly strong familial relationship. If you started off shipping sheith when they weren’t explicitly defined as brothers, fine. But after their familial relationship is revealed the choice to continue shipping those two specifically comes off as strange as hell. Even stranger when you consider the multiple other available male characters that are not only more age appropriate but also dont have a familial relationship with them lmao. Also Shiro canonically gets married to a man. So the choice to continue shipping sheith has to go beyond just wanting to guys to kiss. The next common denominator? They’re both asian, so I must conclude that the need to ship them comes from that. The next next common denominator is that they’re related and some of you just have a thing for incest. But i still have faith in humanity so i wont accuse you of that even though i occasionally feel the urge to. I refuse to take “but but they have the most in show relationship development” as a reason because that just means you’re too fucking lazy to think of your own scenarios. Which is not true, because the amount of devious ass sheith shit I unfortunately stumble across means your collective neurons are actively firing away. Just for the wrong thing. You guys really saw the only real developed relationship (i use this word generally and not strictly romantically) between two guys in the show and decided that it must have romantic undertones. Beyond how its harmful to irl men and deters them from emotional maturity out of fear that any non toxic relationship between two men is automatically seen as romantic by some people, it’s just fundamentally mid yaoi because you guys cant fathom that 1) romance isn’t a core part of the show beyond allurance 2) that two guys can talk to eachother while smiling without wanting to fuck. Yall are in the same league as those guys who are addicted to step sister p0rn.

1.5) bcs i know someones gonna ask “why do you think sheith is incest”, its because shiro fulfills the kinship role of “sibling” for keith, or even “parent”. From here-on out simplified as “guardian”. Within anthropology there are numerous kinship systems which determine which family member is called what. Ex. In the hawaiian system, every male family member is called “father” and every female “mother”. No matter if they birthed you or not. In the linear (also known as esk/mo but that’s a word with heavy history) system, your parents are “mom/dad”, siblings are defined as “brother/sister”, and everyone else is “aunt/uncle” or “cousin”. This is the system commonly used in the west. Kinship systems define a lot of things, from inheritance to respect hierarchies. Another key thing they determine is incest taboo. The range of which this taboo applies differs depending on culture, which is why you’ll hear of two people, for example, cousins getting married. In the west that’s considered taboo, but it may not be in another culture. Kinship and its taboos also apply to non blood related relationships. Hence adoptive siblings, etc. And keith quite explicitly refers to shiro as his brother. Given the context of those scenes, it can be deduced that it’s not said in a way that is 1) casual, as the lingo would more likely be “sup bro” or the tone of voice would be significantly more casual, 2) indicative of anything other than a familial relationship, for if keith considered him a brother in arms he would’ve said something more along the lines up “on your feet, brother”. Keith saying “you’re like my brother” AND THEN DOUBLING DOWN TO “You’re my brother,” said in such a sincere tone of voice leaves little to be debated.

Tldr: Shiro fulfills a guardian kinship role for Keith and thus the incest taboo applies to him.

1.6) also like? It’d be weird either way. Going by their canon age diff (season 1, 25-18 = SEVEN YEARS), and considering shiro met keith in middle school, and going by the oldest middle school age (15) bcs im feeling generous, shiro wouldve still been 22. If they just met once and never again till seasom 1, fine. Ship sheith however you want. But the fact is they met and then they formed a bond when shiro was significantly older and in a position of power over keith. Shiro was a mentor and guardian to keith whether you like it or not, and he stayed that way from when keith was young and impressionable until he was an adult. Yk what thats called? Raising a child. Imagine shipping that. Crazy. Imagine a 9 year old being raised by a 17 year old babysitter bcs of his absent parents. Suddenly when the 9 year old turns 18 he starts dating his babysitter. Thats freaky as hell, and i only increased the age gap by 2 years. Literally nothing else changed.

2) now why would they include a non aapi character in the mash up? Also, his source character from the og voltron is named “Keith Akira Kogane”. What non asian person is named that?

3) also the fact you need me to show you damage.. same vibe as “wdym he’s stalking you he’s just being friendly!! Show me how his so called stalking has put your life in danger”. Like imagine needing actual damage before even considering something bad.

I saw a post that reminded me of this which is why I'm talking about this out of the blue but whenever I see the 'do canonically male characters you headcanon as trans girls count as female characters' debate pops up I remember this one event from the Voltron fandom where an f/f ship week banned genderbending and people lost their SHIT about it, SPECIFICALLY because the mods were like 'we want people to actually focus on the female characters and not submit already popular m/m ships but genderbent'.

This was years ago obviously so standard 'my memory may be fuzzy' disclaimer, but while I believe part of the reasons the mods banned genderbending was bc they believed it to be transphobic (which you could actually argue against and is a stance I don't agree with), and ppl were using that as leverage to argue, but that's not what ppl were actually angry about. Also, I believe the event was run by antis, who had a 'no age gap ships' rule in place, and people were mad about that, but like. The only f/f ships at the time with even kind of an age gap were ones involving Pidge, (which, again, for the record, I never personally gave much of a shit about), and yeah I do believe those were banned and ppl were pissy about that, but most of the ppl arguing with the ship restrictions were doing so in combination with the genderbending restriction, bc what they were mad about wasn't actually about a major female character being banned from the f/f ship week for Ship Discourse Reasons.

What they were angry about was specifically being told their genderbent m/m ships didn't count because they did not, in fact, contain female characters. Arguments were made that, because it was genderbent, it was now f/f and should be allowed in the f/f ship week. The mods went no, those are still canon male characters and popular m/m ships, and we're trying to run a week about the female characters and f/f ships because they don't get enough attention. The mods were fending accusatory and argumentative asks for ages and told people to create their own f/f ship week if they didn't like how theirs was run, which. People did.

A counter f/f ship week was organized but with less restrictions, specifically the restriction on genderbending was lifted. Now, I never followed Ship Week B, because I don't care about shipping and I was there to see more attention given to the female characters, which allowing genderbent m/m content seemed pretty anathema to. But I did check in on it out of curiosity, and to no-one's surprise, Ship Week B contained very large amounts of mostly genderbent sheith, with some shiro/lance and lance/keith thrown in. Like, I'm sure there was also actual f/f content (I remember there being some Pidge/Allura specifically), but I remember very little of it.

And as I alluded to in the large Nuance Disclaimer paragraph: yes this was the Voltron fandom, yes the Disk Horse was involved and made everything far more explosive than it probably would've been otherwise, and also, if the mods hadn't explicitly put the genderbending restriction in the rules list they probably would've gotten maybe a few genderbent m/m submissions tops. It's pretty obvious that a large motivation for Ship Week B was spite, and as someone whose username is literally spitecentral on AO3, I can confirm there is no stronger motivation for fan content than spite. I don't actually think that genderbent m/m is such a major problem in f/f spaces that it needs to be explicitly banned to avoid having it overrun ship weeks.

But even taking all that into account, this whole thing was completely fucking bonkers. Regardless of your opinions on the mods' opinions on genderbending and the Disk Horse, asking ppl not to submit genderbent m/m content on account of it not containing canon female characters is completely reasonable, and the fact that people got mad enough about it to create a whole seperate f/f ship week SPECIFICALLY to allow genderbent m/m content is insane. All the f/f ship week asked was for people to pay attention to female characters for once, and people threw a fucking tantrum about it and not only point-blank refused, but created more content for the male characters out of spite.

So yeah that was kind of a formative fandom experience to me that taught me:

People will take any excuse possible to avoid paying attention to female characters.

People will make literally anything, up to and including female character-centric fandom events, about men.

And that's what I think about any time I see people get offended when others point out that headcanoning a canon male character as a trans girl isn't the same as engaging with female characters.

Tumblr Arguing Tactics: What You Need To Know

Adding to the topic of the disinformation that claimed "system hopping" was appropriated from the RAMCOA community, people need to be aware of the tactics used by groups here who are trying to sew division.

Because these tactics have proven effective, and even being pro-endo doesn't make you immune from spreading anti-endo propaganda.

There have been many pro-endos who heard the false claims that system hopping was appropriated from RAMCOA survivors and started asking about other terms they could use, despite the claims being completely, verifiably false.

Some of these have been RAMCOA survivors who, while not hearing the term before, blindly believed it was a RAMCOA term because other people told them it was.

This has become a major tactic in Tumblr discourse, where when arguing for one thing, it's common to mask your true motives in ways that portray the other side as villains for unrelated reasons.

This has been commonplace in shipping discourse, with anti-shippers claiming ships they don't like are supporting incest and pedophilia. (Not just actual incest and pedophilia ships but ships like Sheith where you have two adult characters with an 8-year age gap who describe each other as being like brothers. Because apparently nobody who has ever described themselves with sibling-like relationships can hook up.) And if it's not claiming the ships are supporting incest or pedophilia, the ships are homophobic, racist, transphobic, etc. Whatever accusations they can land on in order to sink the ships of others in the fandom and prop up their own.

Accusations may be weak but that doesn't matter because the goal isn't truth. It's emotionally manipulating good people, and those who want to be perceived as good people, to take your side.

While other people who weren't invested in the discourse may come to believe the more marketable false reasons, make no mistake where they originated and with what intent.

It's not actually about social justice. It's about using the idea of social justice to prop up their given ship, painting their victims as horrible people for reasons that were never genuinely related to their primary motives.

But it spreads because people hear "[insert group] supports pedophilia" and that triggers a gut emotional reaction no matter how baseless.

And if you don't side with them, then you're supporting that thing too.

There's a manipulation tactic at play here that people need to be aware of.

Because it's spreading everywhere and is regularly being weaponized by genuinely terrible groups against marginalized people to pit them against each other.

If you don't like xenogenders? Just make up a controversy about how Fae pronouns are appropriating Celtic culture. See, now those nasty transgender people are being racist!

If you're aphobic, spread lies that aroace people stole the term "aspec" from the autistic community. Look! We're not excluding them because we're a hate group! We're excluding them because they're ableist!

Time and time again, these tactics are being used to create division and hurt people.

And time and time again, people in the communities keep falling for them.

We have to do better. We have to think critically about where these claims are coming from, and who benefits from them being spread instead of just blindly accepting what we're told.

Yeah, I saw someone make a similar comparison on twitter as well. I just don't understand trying to tear people's art down, even if you dislike them. And imo, the reason proshippers have such great art styles as well is because they don't limit themselves, constantly wondering if whatever fictional thing they're drawing is problematic or not. If I might rant a bit from one lesbian fujoshi fic writer to another, idk how much you'll relate to this because I'm sure we all experience this phenomenon with very different perspectives and whatnot, but: how do you write explicit content?? It's legit good too??

My own fascination with gay smut and yaoi ships in fandom is something that's confused myself and everyone around me ever since I realized that I am a women-only girlie, but if I had to do some self-psychoanalysis, I think part of the reason it's sexy is the degree of separation from myself. These boys, who I only like because they are not real and would be very upset to see in real life, are characters who are treated by their creators and the media around them as full fleshed-out people with problems and goals unrelated to misogyny. They don't have the genitalia that I have, nor want to see, and it's not the genitalia I've learned to fear the brutalization of through my own personal experience and the experience of the women around me. They're separate, on their own island, and as such, feel very safe to project weird desires, dead dove, character-study, and other exploration of my non-corporeal sexuality onto. The smut is hot not because there's a penis, but around it - there's a safety where I can explore erotic sections of people and of myself, and the things that are happening enhance characterization and are interesting because of that. I read a lot of porn lmao.

I don't know if you've noticed - you've given me kudos on my two most sexual fics, You Bite My Lip and Looking for Heaven (thank you btw <3) - that I only write sexual situations where they're clothed, cut to black, or it's mentioned in this sort of vague illusion-to. It's not because I'm uncomfortable with anything else. It's because if I try to write anything more explicit than that, the writing describing the sex quickly gets stale, repetitive, unimaginative, boring. I like the reason I'm doing it, I want to inlay the exploration of dynamic and idea that I'm writing it for in the first place. But I'm not actively having fun with the sex part (because penises mean nothing to me lol), and that means the actual base I'm laying the fun bits on turns out underwritten and bad.

At the end of the day, I think my problem is that I just can't seem to get excited about dick 😭

first of all, hello fellow lesbian fujoshi! we are a phenomenon that few can understand, and I am so fascinated by hearing other people's experiences! and I'm so happy you think the stuff I write is good, thank you <3

as a quick disclaimer, I am definitely somewhere on the aro/ace spectrum as well as being lesbian, so I don't doubt that factors into some of my perspective

this may be shocking to hear now, but for years I had zero interest in basically all m/m ships. looking back, there were definitely relationships between men that I was weirdly invested in (obikin, sheith) but I didn't consider that "shipping" based on the complex and slightly taboo nature of the relationships in question and insecurity in my own sexuality. the slash ships that I did like tended to be completely devoid of any risqué undertones (think solangelo), and I had no interest in exploring a sexual side of their relationships. I basically only shipped f/f for years.

however there was a turning point midway through high school where i, with the accidental help of my best friend, flipped a switch in my brain. for about a year there was only one slash ship that I read explicit material for, but my friend introduced me to danmei and shonen, which just opened the floodgates. I found that I could enjoy reading smut without feeling uncomfortable or too close with the content if the characters were men. see, for me, appearance has always been second to dynamic in my sexuality. for example, if I'm reading vanilla smut of two girls who I think are attractive, I won't really find it entertaining as opposed to a m/m fic containing Things that I find hot. okay, so why dont I just read kinky femslash? here's where I absolutely relate to you in the aspect of separation. being attracted to women but uninterested, and occasionally repulsed, by seeing myself in a sexual situation, I find it so much more comfortable to read about guys whose genitalia and gender is different than mine. I can still get the satisfaction of these dynamics that I think are sexy, without having to risk it hitting too close to home. also totally agree about the misogyny factor, a BL youtuber I really love has a great video where she explains the appeal of slash shipping for her, and I definitely find a lot of her points relatable.

honestly I'm not sure what to tell you for how I write explicit slash content. it's just never really been something that makes me uncomfortable. man I wish I had some advice. I suppose just write what you enjoy? LOVE your fics by the way, so if closed sex/fade to black is your jam, then write it! if you do want to achieve writing hardcore porn, my advice would be to do your research along with reading other's work. make sure you understand the anatomy and how everything functions, and that will help you understand how to write it.

As someone who used to run fandom zines/anthologies and was there at the height of voltron zines these are my red flags if a zine may not work out:

1) they're asking for mods.

[Asking strangers on the internet is a risk and is what usually leads to projects unfinished when one ghosts the others]

2) mods themselves are inexperienced

[Especially if they're handling money, a lot of times that money disappears or it doesn't get to that stage because running a zine is overwhelming]

3) mods have several projects all ongoing [had one mod tried to insert themselves into my zine, they had 7 other projects they were modding and none finished with one cancelled due to another mod stealing]

4] their vetting process somehow involves a test of purity culture to the mod's discretion/bias

[Writers and artists have been rejected for projects over things they made 5+ years ago for ships a mod deems immoral yet unrelated to the current project. I understand vetting to ensure those you accept aren't harassing ppl, but being told they're harmful over sheith or hannigram art? Thats dumb and will cause heartache]

And 5 and this is in light of a zine on twitter] do not join a zine that requires you to be fully outed as trans and have to prove yourself trans enough to join. That's just...vile. you want a trans inclusive zine? Ask your trans friends to join. Do not subject yourself to a stranger's discretion to prove you are trans enough. You ARE trans enough if you say you are trans.

Wanted to say this at the top: All of this is for fun. I haven’t seen voltron in a hot minute so I’d thought I’d go through and see if it was just as bad as we remembered. Below is my highlights and grevences, along with a few Head Canons! So stay if you want. If you don’t, I don’t care! This is just a me thing ^-^

Transition between season 1 and 2

The evolution of the paladins language

Idk if I said it already- but I love how the paladins are using Altean vocabulary. V good detail. Hope this stays consistent

Ships: Yes we’re doing this again but Klance won’t be the biggest issue

There’s a lot of Aullura and Shiro moments in the beginning that would’ve been a great foundation for something more if it wasn’t for the fact that (spoilers) Shiro is gay. The vibes they have are very knight or mercenary x princess and I’m a sucker for that shit.

Allureith is born in this season. And all I can read from this is good intentions but no thought. Both in execution and in the actual relationship. At least right now, I may change my mind the further I go.

Allurance. To me. Is the most infuriating thing this show has to offer. Every time I see Lance take a shot on Allura, and I see her discomfort I always say something along the lines of “Can you shut the fuck up-!” Or “Can you actually stOP!” While pausing for a good moment to regain myself. Just- god. Why? She is nO T into you dude. If anything this would be wonderful character development for both characters. I can see a full ep dedicated to this issue of Lance not knowing when someone isn't interested unless they actually say it to their face while Allura is in this denial that one day lance would get the hint. And from this experience, lance either fucks off for the next few episodes or starts from scratch with Allura with the understanding that friendship should always come first. If she is comfortable with that ofc.

Klance as a whole is screaming enemies far more than rivals right now. If klance is gonna work regardless of being a bromance or romance, there should be an understanding shining through. However, with both parties actually fighting in the middle of battles, and little to no willingness to talk, Iis becoming harder and harder to see why this was the biggest ship the fandom had to offer (then again 2016 was a fandom fever dream to begin with soooo)

Platonic relationships

Give me more Coran. He needs friends. I’m volunteering literally any of the palidins. And ofc we need more of the daughter Allura dynamic since we DONT HAVE ANYY. This man is such a theater kid and we are blessed with his existence.

Keith needs more time with Hunk and Pidge! For the love of god I CANNOT see them as more then trauma bonding buddies. I already have a list of things the B team (thats what I call Hunk and Pidge together because they are the Best Team) can bond over with Keith

Tech- (for both) this is built on the fact that Keith litterally had that cork board set up in the first eps to find Shiro. (Sorry Sheith shippers. I read these two as brothers only.) I like to think that Pidge and Hunk would ask Keith for help with techy stuff almost in the same vein as Lance. The only difference being Keith knows slightly more than Lance dose.

Sports- This one is mainly for Hunk but this can bleed into Lance too. Even though he's a big nerd I like to think his family is big on Foot and Fútball. I think Keith is the same but he loves baseball far more (same with Lance). Almost like I'm projecting my I Dont Dance Au onto these two hahahahaha-

Family/ lack there of - this can go for everyone. The best way to start this convo would be at dinner in the castle. Everyone is having a very quiet time until Hunk asks "Guys, what were your family's like?" This would result in a beat of quiet as for the first time in a bit, everyone really thinks about earth. Not for a passing moment or anything. Like- seriously. Allura or Coran would encurage this, saying that they dont really now alot about the palidin's home planet. From there it would a hodge podge of stories and background. I have a few HCs bout this including Shiro not really having a family and going into the airforce for financial and emotional support only to end up on the Curburos mission to.. escape life *cough cough* Adam *cough*, Pidge would talk about their mom's cooking and how their brother helped them with homework to the point where it got annoying. Hunk would say his mom's cooking is far superrior and then talk about his dad and siblings. I want to make his dad a retired wrestler, now mechanic. Lance would take offense to Hunk's claim this his mom could cout cook his mom. But he would talk alot about how his siblings were always there for him after their dad left (YES I WANT DADDY ISSUES LEAVE ME ALONE) Allura would remark throughout these stories with questions of her own. We'd eventually end with Keith, who almost leave the table at the pressure to remark on his own upbringing. This. This would be interesting.

Let’s get the great out of the way: The Blade themselves- Their introduction is great. That goes without saying.

Keiths trials- M W A H the character assessment I could make is TOO LONG ON G O D

but the actual workings of the BoM is so calculated and cold. It’s honestly so refreshing in a way I don’t know how to explain

I just love untrusting rebels because that’s the reality of rebellion. You don’t know who is for the cause and who is a gov plant

I personally want Keith’s Galra heritage more known physically. Both on him and in his upbringing. I want splotches of purple across his body that no doctor can explain (all of wich can be hidden with a change of clothes) and barely noticeable physical abnormalities (ie: longer and sharper nails, maybe purple tinted hai “I dye it…”, strange “scars” that are actually birth marks that stand out. But he passes as human. Through these excuses.

I also want flashbacks to his dad trying to pass on everything he knows about his mother’s culture. (The knife and stories)

Now- I wanna talk about the bad. Y’all know it, y’all seen it- the racism

Now- Allura, sure. She has a reason to hate the Gullra. They killed her people. That is valid and I think that the truama combined with the truth that she’s working with “the enemy” is a great conflict and is honestly wonderful character growth.

HUNK ON THE OTHER HAND- w t f. This is so out of character. Hunk is literally the heart of the group and almost as smart as Pidge. I think he would know better than anyone else that litterally nothing has changed about Keith. Hell- maybe Shiro would know that struggle of people seeing him differently better than anyone else because IDK HES GAY (unless I change that. Personally I saw Shiro straight but… audience interaction? Lol I’ll put a poll on the final season if I remember) TLDR- As Keith said: “I didn’t just turn Gullra!”

Finale (season 2, episode 12 + 13)

Aullara getting over her biases and apologizing to Keith is perfect

Shirio and Keith’s chemistry is amazing as well both in and out of combat

He’s kind of right in his thinking that by controlling the lion, he’s won. He’s right. But from this thought process he’s reckless and too assured in himself.

This was a fun watch! Was there things I’d change? Ofc! But this season holds up just as, if not better than, the last! From what I remember everyone agrees that seasons 1-3 or 4 is the good shit and then everything goes downhill. Hopefully I’m proven wrong but I highly doubt that.

For the following ships, explain what you love the most about them, ex: their dynamic, chemistry, etc: tododeku, sheith, and kinnporsche

Oh man. Idk if the incoming ramble will b coherent but here goes:

Tododeku: I love everything about them. I love that Midoriya is the first person Shouto opened up to and from then on, Todoroki literally became ride or die. He may be doing better about making friends but Izuku is first and thus will always have his unending loyalty. They are equals in a way and sort of balances each other out. They are just...they just fit. When I first began watching MHA, I did not go into with a ship in mind but came out of it shipping the two...and I do not regret that one bit 😄

Sheith: ok, I will admit that in some aspects, this ship can come off a bit on the unhealthy side but not worryingly so because it corrects itself. Keith loves Shiro and will come to his defense 100% even against others. To Keith, Shiro is everything. To Shiro, he has a partner who balances him out. Keith will always b Shiro's main supporter and vice versa but Keith will let Shiro make his own decisions and choices. Their chemistry is unparalleled. And despite what the show tried to end with, it's obvious they are for each other. Tbh, it was seeing fanart and gifs of them that made me interested in watching VLD and when I did, I got to learn more about them and the more I watched, just solidified why they should've been canon and why they belong together.

KinnPorsche: my God did I fall for this couple just like the above. They have started out roughly but their dynamic? Oooh. With Porsche, Kinn can be...free. he's still head of the main fam, but he can also be free in a way with Porsche. Porsche can take care of himself, but with Kinn, he has someone to share the load and to take care of him too. Again, same as with Sheith, it was seeing clips of them on here that made me curious and then I finally was able to see the show and I got it. Yes, they had a lot of things to overcome (trust issues on *both* sides) but they work. 🙂

I just...idk how to explain these couples because to me..they fit. They balance each other out and makes sense together. With them, it feels...right. none of them are perfect but they are perfect for each other. For each couple, each make the other stronger, make them want to be better and to do better. 😊

I will never not ship them. They are right up there with Tommy/Kimberly and Draco/Harry.

While the glass cupcake one is completely false, the Klance blackmail story absolutely did happen and there's a mega ton of receipts on that, including this tweet from someone who directly interacted with them and this other tweet from someone who replied to the now deleted blackmail thread. It's possible this person was trolling and given some of my experience with some of the more terminally online Sheith fandom, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of this story being blown to high heaven more than it ever needed to be, but this event did happen.

That said, I don't disagree at all that if it wasn't VLD, it would've been some other mid ass show. And while Voltron was the fandom that made people take notice, the environment to make it the wretched hive of scum and villainy it's become infamous for had already been in place with the Steven Universe skinny Rose Quartz thing and the assholes who took over a Sherlock convention panel to have a go at darkfic writers, or even the radfem-coded language hurled at Reylo after Episode VII came out, which was six months before VLD.

Plus, the 2016 election and the US collectively going full mask off on fascism.

And yeah, after everything with Warner and even from my current fandom losing Star Trek Prodigy off Paramount Plus after it's then unreleased season 2 was nearly completed (which thankfully Netflix picked up AND we have physical releases for!), losing VLD doesn't feel like a win. Yeeting it into the void doesn't unopen the Pandora's box of issues that plague fandom now. It won't undo the hurt that the fighting caused or the perpetual paranoia many Sheith fans feel or the pain of disappointment about the mismarketing of queer rep or any number of gripes, legitimate or otherwise, that they may feel.

And since none of that can be taken away, I'd rather we just see to it that the show is available for everyone that worked on it to put it on their resumés. From all the shit fans threw at them, it's the very least they deserve.

Wow, VLD is getting removed from Netflix in December. I know it produced some of the worst fandom discourse on this site and kick-started the whole anti/proship thing that's still going on to this day, but I honestly think that even if Voltron hadn't happened the modern fandom discourse probably would have remained the same. It just would've been some other show that got the toxic fandom.

It's also just kinda... weird. VLD was one of the first fandoms I was in and while I understand the experience was terrible for a lot of people, I personally never encountered much drama and therefore had a pretty enjoyable time reading fics and watching AMVs. Shit, it was how I first started using Ao3. It's just kinda sad.

Aside from all that, I think this is just awful from a media preservation standpoint. It's insane that shows with large, passionate fanbases can be removed from any sort of legal viewing because of stupid rights bullshit.

i saw your wonderful meta and i thought, another thing that really stuck with me is the difference between the sheith vs kallura hug in s2. with kallura, you see them hug up close, the viewers are invited into the scene because it's not an intimate one. but with sheith, you see both of them hug, you don't get to hear anything (if they were even saying anything), and the viewers are placed very far away, as if we're not meant to invade into that intimate moment that's reserved just for the 2.

hi!  ha i actually also like kallura and think their hug was cute too, but ya theyre both presented in really different ways. i think the main thing is how comfortable keith looks with shiro, so this is a level of intimacy he’s used to. he tells that one arusion he doesnt hug strangers, but i guess he must hug shiro time to time, since he just goes in for the handshake but isnt at all surprised when shiro pulls him in. 

also, interesting note about it feeling like this intrusion on a private moment: allura’s watching them 

so ya, in terms of how theyre in their own little world and someone else is looking in, i think its definitely framed that way, since its something we see from allura’s point of view. we also get the hug right on the heels of this scene 

so The Hug is also kinda this moment where you have someone else staring and going Why though?? why are they so close??? because shiro keeps trusting all these galra and she just?? cant understand it?? when she turns away from the bom she looks Tired and Annoyed. but after keith catches her staring during the hug, she looks more…hurt? guilty? something? like she’s maybe thinking she shouldn’t be so quick to judge, because keith and shiro both look so perfectly content and at ease in that moment, and its kinda hard to think Evil Galra when you see them being so vulnerable with somebody. (granted i think she had every right to be wary and im proud she was able to build that bridge back up by herself, but i digress). anyway, i think there is that extra level of it feeling like this personal moment  because its this scene that kinda “humanizes” him for allura a little–his affection for shiro humanizes him. and it’s one of the early steps in learning to confront her black and white worldview. ironically, the sheith hug reveals just as much about allura as it does shiro and keith. 

sidenote: i think its interesting that in both these scenes, shiro is turned away from her the whole time. which seems kinda indicative of how distant from shiro she feels because its like hes “siding” with the galra over her. keith is the only one who looks back. and when he does, allura immediately breaks eye contact. 

as for the kallura hug, it seems pretty one sided to me. that is, allura initiates it, and he doesnt respond as readily. she kinda grabs him and you can tell he’s shocked that she’s ready to forgive him so easily. He doesnt pull away or anything though, and tries to reassure her and everything. when he promises to come back you can tell he really cares that she was concerned for him. but, that being said, he definitely doesnt look as comfortable. hes more startled and just freezes. he doesnt hug her back right away. its not something to be expected, like with shiro. 

obviously, this also has a lot to due with the drastic change in her behavior, which leaves him pretty confused. but even when hunk hugs him that one time at the beginning, he looks shocked. hes a touch averse person usually, so its nice to see that he at least had shiro to open up to. and now, little by little, hes slowly letting his guard down around others too.

also, something i kinda wondered when i first watched season 2: since she was the one watching keith and shiro hug before, did it occur to her that oh!! maybe this is a thing! maybe keith likes hugs. should i be giving him a hug?? because she saw shiro do it to reassure him so she tried to comfort him the way shiro would? caus if so thats really cute 

anyway im thankful for both the sheith and kallura hugs! like honestly keith can probably use all the hugs he can get at this point ha

VLD Fandom Appreciation Prompts #1: New Uniform

Thank you, sweet anon, because lemme tell you what I am a big, BIG fan of the new uniform. And, uh, I decided the boys are too lol

Brushing his fingers over the shining gold bars that sit proud on Shiro’s shoulder, Keith can’t help but think how good they look offset by the black fabric of his new uniform. Snug across his shoulders and chest, the new jacket fits him in a way that cuts him of nothing but clean, trim lines.

As if Shiro’s tapered frame needed much more help catching his eye.

A small, rolling hum tickles the tips of Keith’s fingers as the newly minted captain shuffled through the spreadsheets clutched in his hands.

“So, does this mean you like the new uniforms?” Shiro asks lowly, his smile evident in the brightness of his voice as he pushes himself further into the back of their couch, and consequently, into Keith’s touch.

Drawing out his own, teasing hum, he drags his fingers across the thick fabric, brushing lightly at the seam where Shiro’s collar ends and the nape of his neck begins. A smile, sharp and knowing, cuts itself across his mouth as he feels the shudder that rocks its way up his spine with his touch.

“Yeah,” Keith replies, not bothering to swallow the devilish lilt that has painted his tone something dark as he steps around the side of the couch, all the while drawing his touch across Shiro’s shoulders.

Eyes turned to scorched metal meet his as he finally stands before Shiro, the older man not even bothering to pretend that the sheets before him are holding his attention. They burn, bright and wanting, as they glide over Keith and his own new, fitted uniform. He knows it doesn’t quite do him the same justice that it does Shiro, but even he can admit that the triangular cut of the jacket and tight fit of the black pants highlights some of his best assets.

From the way Shiro is looking up at him with a look of awe inspired need, Keith thinks maybe he agrees.

The very thought only cuts his smile deeper as he grabs the paper that stands between them and pulls them away, not missing the way that Shiro doesn’t put up much of a fight to keep them.

“I think I do like them,” he continues, dropping the spreadsheets onto their coffee table with the soft hush of paper on wood. Slowly, and sinuously, each move filled with languid, burning intent, Keith pushes himself into Shiro’s lap and steadies himself with a knee on either side of his thighs.

“What about you, sir?” His voice is breathy as he leans in close, placing his palms on Shiro’s shoulders as he continues to finger the bars there. Pulling both hands down over his chest, he traces one over the officer insignia that marks the space just above his heart while the other draws a burning line down toward his belt.

“Keith,” Shiro says by way of answer, turning his name into something that sounds caught between a prayer and a curse as he follows the sharp, metal lines of the Voltron symbol embossed in the buckle.

“Do you find it to your satisfaction?” Keith asks, looking up through his lashes as he draws his bottom lip between his teeth. With a sharp click!, the buckle gives way as both ends fall to the side, leaving the space across Shiro’s taut stomach open for him to splay his hand across.

Want buries itself bone deep within him as he feels the way it jumps at the touch.

There’s more that he could say playing on his tongue, the words waiting their turn to push all the buttons that Keith knows Shiro likes, but they never come as he pushes forward and steals them away. Lips burning and bruising against his, Shiro’s hands find either side of his hips and hold him steady as he rolls up into him. It startles a moan from him that parts his lips and allows the captain to push further as he licks the back of his teeth.

Curling the fist at Shiro’s heart, Keith anchors himself as he nips at his lip.

A smile, soft as sin, brushes against his own before Shiro pulls back.

“Is that a yes?” Keith asks, voice husky and burnt with the flames raging deep within his core. Fanning them into an inescapable blaze, Shiro reaches up and buries his fingers into his hair as he drags his thumb, cool and metallic, over the flush of his cheek.

“Yes,” he rumbles as he draws Keith back down, pausing just before their lips can meet again. “But I think they’d look much better on our floor.”

A soft, warm laugh dances between them before Keith presses it into Shiro’s skin with a quick kiss.

“I have to say I agree,” he says, already making quick work of the buttons of Shiro’s jacket.
