Okay so I applied for an upwork gig transcribing the sheet music for some piano recordings. I've only ever transcribed my own music before, so the only work samples I had to show her were songs I wrote myself.

One of the work samples I sent was a sheetmusic transcription of the vocal arrangement for a bilingual Chinese/English song I wrote that I've been working on, on and off, since last year.

Here's the thing.

I was so busy trying to apply to as many gigs as possible that I didn't actually bother to check out the client's profile page before applying.

So I didn't realize until after she messaged me for an interview that this client is, in fact, an Asian woman with a Chinese surname. Which, shit, what if she thinks I sent that work sample because I was racially profiling her?

Yikes.

I mean, she hired me, so I probably didn't offend her.

But I offended myself I mean, this is SO FUCKING EMBARRASSING. I sent a Chinese client sheetmusic that contains my amateurish attempt at writing Chinese song lyrics.

Like.

I guess this is some kind of life lesson:

Here’s a quick screen shot of a “transcription in progress” of the cascading scale idea I put up a few weeks back. I got some positive feedback that has inspired me to transcribe and edit what I was doing, as well as some variations on that idea. I’m liking how Sibelius integrates guitar tab and music notation. It’s pretty intuitive- unlike a lot of other aspects of the program(!) IMHO. Once I’m done with this, I’m going to offer it to anyone who asks for it via dm. I’m thinking of this as an educational piece for fingerpicking variations. But above all I want it to be a great or piece of music.
