Regina gets dared to date the loser, no one thinks that she could make Y/n fall in love with her, (Resulting in a bet with Shane) Regina ends up doing the unexpected

Warnings: Nothing too extreme, just light bullying and mocking

As the weeks passed, Regina found herself genuinely enjoying your company. The initial dare began to blur as she laughed with you, shared secrets, and experienced genuine moments of connection. You were kind, funny, and smart—qualities that Regina hadn't expected to find in someone she initially labelled as a "loser."

She liked you

You had another date with each other, she took you out to the theme park and you played games and rode on roller-coaster for hours, at the end of the night was when she asked you to be her girlfriend, of course you said yes.

That was 5 months ago and 29 days, Regina dreaded knowing that she had to break your heart soon, but she didn't want to.

You were sitting on your table alone, eating your lunch and patiently waiting for Regina, as soon as she sits down, you speak up. "Can we go out tonight." You ask Regina, looking at her with hopeful eyes, Regina sighs, looking down at her feet, "I'm hanging out with my friends, sorry."

You always thought that it was strange that she never allowed you close to her when her friends were around, you knew about her high status but it still was sad.

"It's okay, I'm watching a movie with my dad anyway." You say, you were hoping that she would come with you, "Maybe it's time, we meet each others parents." You suggest. Regina frowns, knowing that she doesn't want to break your heart because, she loves you.

"My parents are homophobic, I don't think they would want to meet you." Regina lied, she told her parents that she was lesbian a while ago and they expected her but she didn't want for you to form a bond and then be heartbroken so it was easier if she lied. You frowned at first but then you said, "Well maybe you could meet my dad!"

"Yeah, Maybe." Regina said, giving you a kiss, then the bell rang, "I'll see you tomorrow baby." She hated knowing that she would have to break your heart tomorrow or she would have to deal with the embarrassment of her friends making fun of her, she had to spend her time thinking which one she would rather bare.

She made her way into Shanes house and they all smirked at her, Shane and the others pulled her all into the living room and told her to tell them everything., she put on a façade, boasting about how easy it was to fool you. But inside, she was torn. She started dreading the moment when the truth would come out, knowing it would hurt you deeply.

Regina's friends noticed the change in her behaviour. Aaron, in particular, began to suspect that Regina was no longer just playing a game. "You know, if you keep this up, you might actually start caring for her," Aaron teased one afternoon.

Regina scoffed, but her heart wasn't in it. "As if, she's a fucking loser." she replied, rolling her eyes her friends laughed along to Regina's reply, but her heart broke having to talk about you like that.

"Are you ready to break her heart tomorrow?" Shane asked with a smirk, Regina nodded sadly, she wasn't, but she thought that her social status mattered more so she agreed to go along with the original plan.

The next day at school, you had planed to get her a gift for your 6 month anniversary, you got Regina a necklace that you picked out with your dad.

You make your way to Regina, but, your heart breaks when you see her kissing Shane, you walk away before she could see you, but her friends did and everyone of them laughed. "She looked so sad!" Gretchen exclaimed, "She's probably going to cry to her dad." Aaron said.

"I wanna give her a hug." Karen frowned, Regina agreed, that was all she wanted to do but she was stuck next to Shane.

During lunch, Regina made her way up to you, she knew you would try to walk away or not listen, so she had to play it suddenly. "Uh hey Y/n." She whispered, You stood up and tried to walk away but she grabbed your wrist and pulled you down. 

"Don't touch me." You said, she nodded pulling away, "Can I please explain this to you." She says, you throw the necklace you bought her on the table. 

"Explain what? That you got dared to date me then break my heart?" You asked and she stepped back, "Look, I'm really sorry." Regina said again,  but you weren't having any of it, you just stood up and walked away.

The next few days were the worst Regina had ever experienced. You avoided her at all costs, and she felt the loss deeply. She realised she had to make things right, not just for the bet, but for herself and you.

Regina decided to confess everything in front of her friends. She spoke up  when she was sitting on the cafeteria table, drawing everyone's attention. "I have something to say," she began, her voice shaking. She explained the dare, her initial intentions, and how everything changed. "I hurt someone I care about deeply, and I am truly sorry," she finished, looking directly at you. Who happened to be walking by the table and overhearing the conversation.

The table was silent. You were stunned by her confession to her friends, it felt like for once her status  didn't matter. After she told everyone she came up to you, "Hey." She said, "Hi." You smiled.

It took time, but eventually, you forgave her. You saw the sincerity in her eyes and realized that people could change.

Regina and you began anew, this time without any lies or dares. She worked hard to prove her sincerity, and slowly, you started to trust her again. The experience changed Regina, making her more genuine and considerate.

Your relationship grew stronger, built on mutual respect and understanding. Regina's friends saw the change in her and slowly began to accept your place in her life. The bet was long forgotten, replaced by a real, meaningful connection.

Regina learned a valuable lesson about honesty and the importance of genuine connections. She no longer cared about the opinions of those who thrived on petty games. She had found something real with you, and that was worth more than any dare or bet.

In the end, Regina won something far more valuable than $200—she won your heart and discovered her own capacity for true love.

Lofty gave me a veeerrry good scenario for a Time vs Sky conflict, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on what that could look like? I picked 2 very mature characters and now I have to make them brawl lolol

I think the best route (for me at least) wouldn't involve the master sword or Hylia. So this would be a personality conflict. I don't wanna spoil the scenario she gave me, so I thought I'd ask for your general opinion on what you think would make them fight, personality wise🥰

YES ok so personality conflicts between Sky and Time. There's... a lot to look at there lol.

So I'm just gonna look at each of their personalities +flaws, and then how they interact :))

Soo for Time

Time is dad. He's older and more experienced- and he's still a stubborn gremlin like all of them. He's patient with them but also stern- he cares very deeply about all the boys and Sky is no exception

I don't doubt for a second Time wants to be just as close to Sky as the others

One of Times biggest flaws is the idea of a closed mindset. Which makes sense, since we know Time's ending as the hero's shade- he spends years in that mindset of regret. Time has these thoughts of being too old to change (<no), and allows himself to keep holding onto bitterness, especially about the sword. Which he has good reason to be a grumpy old man already, with the mental and physical age difference, but still

Time is obviously capable of changing his mind- as Wind took a challenge to prove

But overall Time is still. He's not super expressive, my man likes to just be. He wants to be still and live, and hero as needed, and not be a super crazy hero, but just a chill dude with malon.

Time is patient and stern and calm and good. He is also closed and stubborn. That's all good, but it doesn't always work the best with Sky.

So Sky.

I literally love this ask because I could rant forever about his flaws to talk about them more (no one kill me).

Sky very highly values being a hero as part of who he is- in contrast to time who literally just doesn't want to.

I see so much of Sky's patience. And with good reason- with others Sky is endlessly patient and calm in resolving conflict. He's emotionally intuitive and intelligent and awesome

But Sky is also I think extremely impatient. With himself, and with things around him that aren't going well.

He wants answers and he wants them now, which is kind of scary from him. I see a lot about Skys temper, but I don't want to forget how much of that is from impatience- not knowing how to handle things going slow.

Because things moving fast and violently is how it needs to be right? *cough cough IMPA

For all sky is extremely patient with others feelings, he is one of the most impatient people with himself and his circumstances. Which a lot of comes from immaturity, which is my next point-

Sky is. A monster with pranks. I don't even know why it took me so long to realise this was Sky-

Saying 'I know we should help but this is too funny'. Twilight and wild are looking disturbed and like they want to help, and Sky and legend are just cold-blooded leaving four struggling for his shield and taking bets. He's very immature, and furthermore, he doesn't really respect Time as an authority as much in the face of pranking/joking

Bro is not remorseful at all I swear-

I also think 'nice hair' Sky is a little... idk judgy? With people he doesn't get along with as well. Like Hyrule. (Wait I haven't yet I gotta rant on that sometime sorry- but yeah he and Hyrule don't vibe well)

Sky can also be unrestrained with his words and snark- his words can practically be a prank in itself 'nice hair' 'am I late?'. I think sometimes he toes the line with pranks and joking around (like that one quest where you could break Peatrices heart?), and same with his words. Overall he's a snarky and sharper person- and being able to pull off good pranks and jokes isn't inherently a bad thing- he's smart. He's a kind person too, but I think sometimes his words and actions can be too sharp.

I think Jojo also said in the post with their ages that she made him slightly younger because of his immaturity compared to twilight. Do with that what you will

So point is, Sky has flaws that are mildly subtle but still prominent, like his impatience with himself and situations, his immaturity with joking and temper and words, and I hc he's a slightly judgy person. 'Nice costume' to Zelda like SKY but I swear I love him. Don't kill me for discussing flaws please I have a dog

So how this comes together with between him and Time is pretty cool-

Skys impatient, and Time has a resistance to change in his mindset- which means that as far as the sword, Sky wants change now, he wants validation and Time to not hate it. Time does not care about this because the sword hurt him and he's spent years hating it.

But with situations and stuff, especially with the entrance arc, we can see Sky being very impatient after Twi's injury- from what I can tell he wants to rip dinks throat out. But it's still subtle- what's not as subtle is how much Time wants to slow down. He wants to hold them back and protect them, and Sky is impatient in a frustrating situation. I could honestly see Sky wanting to run after the shadow on his own right now (sorry, I've been rereading elastic heart). Sometimes patient + wanting to hurry up doesn't work well.

If you think about it in relation to their journeys it makes sense that they are portrayed this way. Skys journey was about rushing and trying to hurry up. Times journeys were horrifying, with this insane feeling of running out of time.. but he could still turn back said time.

I can't even count the number of people I've seen say they tried to rush through the eldin temple as fast as possible on reruns- after Impa telling him it was too late trying to run as fast as possible even knowing it wouldn't change anything. That translates into skys character, and it must be insanely frustrating for him.

They are both heros. Time's journey was about saving the world and Sky's was about trying to kill a god. It's a big disconnect between them- one is patient and one is not, one doesn't want to be a hero and one's life is being a hero dating a goddess. One lightheartedly jokes and one throws a love letter down the toilet (SKY), one is older and one is immature. Yet on the surface Time wears a scowl and Sky is as soft as can be.

They are so very different in so many ways, but so much alike- they are both heros, they both want to be young and playful at heart. They both really like stabbing things and setting them on fire. And also saving the world.

They are also both extremely mature in ways beyond their years and endlessly kind.

I love them so much.

I wasn't sure to say this in the post bc the ask is about personalities, but I feel like another major issue between them could be whatever happened with Time and timelines and the triforce. Obviously the timeline is messed up. I also have not played times games... but I think in timeline talk one he mentioned the triforce of courage ended up broken? I can see Sky not taking well to all of that.

Soooo in terms of personality conflicts that would make them. Fight? Yikes what are you planning Oma, I would say there's several possible triggers outside of the master sword and Hylia (which I think is wise of you to avoid btw)

I think that Skys impatience contrasting with Time's fixed mindsets can have issues. But the way Sky has shown no acknowledgment of Time when he's tried to stop the boys goofing off w/ pranking can also be a trigger- as well as that sharp and sometimes insensitive snarkiness in Skys words we all know and love. They have. A lot of issues. lol.

Yeah! I uhh hope that helped and was relevant or made sense at all- I swear I love these guys. These two are fun to look at because outside of the obvious stressor of the sword they have a lot of other issues as well. They have differences in thinking and personality that can lead to a lot of tension between them.

Fine I'll talk about Bridgerton

One thing this season made really clear to me is that Lady Whistledown is in a way a coping mechanism. It was stared by a lonely, neglected, unhappy seventeen year old girl who felt like she could scream until she collapsed to the ground and it would be into a void because no one would fucking listen to her.

Her mother constantly berates and criticises her, her father (while alive) barely speaks to her and is seen off to the side drinking when he's meant to be chaperoning her, her sisters are openly cruel to her and are still favoured by their mother. She has few friends, and the two relationships she holds closest both have significant blocks to them, with Colin it's her unrequited feelings and..... tbh her and Eloise's friendship is a whole different post and while they clearly mean the world to each other, there where fundamentally issues long before Lady Whistledown was so much as a drop of ink. I think they are both at fault for them and I love both of them, but Eloise's biggest issue comes from just not listening to her and in general as a person having a bad case of tunnel vision and hyper focusing on certain things while completely missing others.

Pen is outcast from society from the moment she steps foot in it, ridiculed and despised by those around her and bullied by girls her age for literally no fucking reason. She is seen as unattractive and undesirable, she believes the fundamentally human want to be loved a silly childish delusion because she is told from every angle that she is not worth it. She's not even worth listening to.

I think her resentment and hurt had been building for a while, she's never under any assumption that she will be treated or seen better. How could she be? When she is constantly reminded how much she fails to be what is wanted or respected or valued, primarily by her own damn family. Still, she's a kind girl. She's sweet and attentive and a good listener, she's patient and reliable and, before Whistledown started, probably extremely loyal, if how much guilt she felt whenever she genuinely betrayed someone says anything. She's someone who has never felt or had any power, who has so much hurt and resent and bitterness from years of this shit building and building.

But she's also smart and witty and funny and extremely intelligent. She has a talent for writing and words and clearly has the potential to be successful. I think being pushed into society a year earlier than she wanted (again, because her mother wouldn't listen) pushed her over the edge. She wrote her observations, the things she learnt from being pushed to the side for so long down, and published them. I don't think she ever intended for it to be as big as it was, and I think the bigger it got and still gets the more in over her head she is. Because for once people listened, for once people cared, for once what she thought and said and worked for mattered.

It is a young girl gaining her first glimpse at power and being deeply unprepared for the consequences. When things go wrong and she doesn't know what to do and no one will listen to her as Penelope, this is the only way she can make them. No matter how disastrous the affects, using Whiseldown gets results, it just also hurts people, pushing her further and further down this cycle where Whistledown is one of the only thing that makes her feel better and allows her to process the things in her life, while hurting the people around her and making her more dependent on it.

She truly meant to give up Whistledown after the disaster with Eloise, but on that night she had her connection or trust from the two people who she cared about and who cared about her the most broken. With the fight with Eloise and then overhearing Colin she lost both of them in the span of an hour, what else dose she have aside from her writing?

And again at the ball in episode one. Even after a complete upheaval of her entire look she still fails to talk to those guys, she still isn't enough, it's proof it is not her youth or her mother influence something fundamental in her can't do this. Then Cressida rips her dress with Eloise standing right there, then Colin comes and (even tho she is incorrect) confirms to her that he too, is embarrassed by her. So what dose she do? When she's miserable and powerless? She writes. She takes it all out in Whistledown and says the (admittedly true which is why it hurt so much tbh) cruel things about Colin, which she regrets literally a day later after actually talking to him. Adding more guilt and keeping her stuck in this cycle.

It's a business definitely, and there are many parts of Whistledown she genuinely enjoys, but I don't think it's good for her. It hurts the people around her and it hurts herself, she's in over her head and definitely knows she should stop, but I don't think she knows how. She doesn't let herself rely on others enough to be okay without this one thing that has allowed her to cope and be heard and respected and valued. That's also why I think she couldn't have stopped before this season, now she's finally getting that, she's finally being listened to and respected and valued and being told she is worth something. Not by many people, and it is still too new to change the fundamental thought patters about it she has, but it's a start.

Now she just has to grapple with that fact that this thing that has given her a voice and found her comfort might just be the dealbreaker for the real people in her life who can actually offer her the love and care and respect she deserves and craves and has been denied for so so long. It sucks and it's a cycle she can't get out of now, she's made her own trap without knowing how she did it.

That's what happens when a 17 year olds coping mechanism continues and grows and expands for years, when people unknowing pay to see more of it, and when she doesn't really know what else to do. Whistledown is Pens choice and all her actions for better or worse, but it would not exist without the context of her life. It would not exist if Portia was a better mother, if she had better sisters or a better family. It would not exist of other girls her age were kinder to her, if they excluded her a little less. It would not exist if she were not seen as a lost cause for love before she had the chance to try. Lady Whistledown would not exist if someone just fucking listened to her.

( 𓈀 ORIENTATION　)　𝓭　⦂　it doesn’t have to be the absolute setting that needs to be shared with everyone who watching this blog, but for my headcanon, i imagined kiki as aro spectrum. from my understanding, aroflux / demi / quoi / gray / recipro romantic are the categories she possibly fits into. when it comes to love, nothing else but the pure platonic affection comes first in her. kiki loves others very deeply, and romantic or not is just not a huge matter for her. she could care less about the idea of romantic love and has only mere interests. she doesn’t realize it is what it is until someone indicates directly there’s some kind of romantic feelings in between. however, it’s not that she dislikes the idea of romantic love nor the marriage at all. when she felt right, kiki will agree to be in a relationship and further — but her dates don’t always see her feelings as something they expected, often lead them into breaking up. kiki is not labeling herself as aro spectrum but just questioning, she aware that her romantic orientation is not quite fitting into society’s standards, but she prefers to stay in vague for her identity.

seungcheol and kiki was mutual first love. their romantic feelings ( it was for kiki too at that time ) grew silently behind the friendship and bond as comrades in arms. both knew saw one another more than just friends, but they were basically mom and dad among the trainees in project 17. the two felt responsibility for others and own dreams, avoided to leave any hint that company would notice their relationship — well, only if they can call that. she was always there for him, when his grandmother was taken to a hospital, he had a rough time through monthly evaluation, struggled for the situation in the process of training. she felt secure when she was around him, he always created safe space for her, learned how to take care of her ( because she often forgot herself ). they sometimes hung out at the park or just took a walk outside of the dorm at night. they shared first kiss after seungcheol graduated from high school, but the thing hasn’t ended up there. at the age of nineteen, when they went to seungcheol’s home together to spend lunar new year holiday as their tradition, seungcheol spilled his feelings, put into words how he likes her for the first time. underwater, the two knew this was the last chance left. even if the feelings were different then his, she likes him. loves him. he was special for her, just like kiki is to him. they lost innocence to one another. both knew they couldn’t choose secret relationship only to risk everything — literally. there was a lot of tears, but young un-lovers were okay to keep this way. or, perhaps otherwise?

they knew each other before the proper first meeting ( you know, kpop industry is a small world ), but greeted for the first time when seongwu gathered his every courage and asked minhyun to introduce her. kiki was his celebrity crush since seongwu saw her dance performance on hit the stage, so he finally felt like a celebrity, too. they were good colleagues until seongwu confessed her after the mama 2017 in japan. she surprised, couldn’t answer right away, but seongwu waited patiently to kiki said yes in hesitant after the new year. seongwu has a golden heart. he is the one of a kind boy, genuinely good, funny and generous. this was the first time she built a relationship — not only after the thing with seungcheol, but her lifetime in general. she was kinda unsure but willing to try and learn, and seongwu was the happiest man on the earth. he adores her, cherish every moment he can spend with her. she had her first tv drama appearance in japan, and wanna one was on the ongoing prime, so both were extremely busy. but they knew how to put effort and keep things working. kiki didn’t put into words that much about his relationship, but members knew all about. they dated about six months, but it was enough time to make her realized her feelings is not same as his. kiki doesn’t mind if seongwu went out with other girls, if she was his friends, and that was the problem. she couldn’t help but puzzled every time he got jealous when she went out with her male friends. it’s not that deep toxic behavior, just indicated his annoyance in a cute way and got powty, so she hasn’t bothered, simply confused and couldn’t understand. she, doesn’t know what jealous means — and it snapped back both of them to reality that no one knows exist. after the week of talking and late night conversation, he teared up and confessed he couldn’t keep this relationship. i know you like me — but our heart doesn’t fits its shape. and i couldn’t bear that, was all he said. kiki agreed, they split. now they were good friends, although he still feels guilty that he couldn’t accept her shape of love, and either she that wasn’t able to answer his affection in right way. but it’s all in the past now.

it was a short term thing. they met through an advertising campaign shoot in japan, and yuki almost fell in love with her at first sight. he approached right after they wrapped up the shooting. she had a rough time in the first half of the year due to false bullying accusation from former trainee, but his bright presence and humor helped to cheer her up. plus, seventeen and kiki as an individual had many opportunities to do job in japan in 2019, so it was not as hard as usual for her to keep in touch with someone in japan face to face. he was curious everything about her, basically head over heels. they dated about five to six months, but the amount of time they spent was not as much as when she was with seongwu. they broke up because he couldn’t be confident about that she actually liked him or not — and the doubt was not quite far from the truth. but not the whole truth neither. in fact, she actually liked him. but the form of affection was just a bit different than others. she cherished him, valued him in her own way, but again, that way didn’t matched with his one. and it was too late after he realized it.

they met in 2022 for the first time through mutual friend, yuta. yuta and aki co-starred in the movie high & low / the worst x that year, and they had a chance to grab some meals together. then kiki and aki co-starred in huge project in japan next year ( taiga drama ), make them grew close to each other. they played the historical emperor and his most beloved empress consort. aki made clear from the beginning he’s interested in her with romantic way, helped kiki a lot to avoid the confusion later. aki flirted with her casually with a manner whenever he had a chance, somehow made her comfortable. she had no intense to start relationship again especially both past ones didn’t end up well for same reason, and aki was a bit disappointed ( bcs his crush was more serious than she thought ) but understand her shoes, pushed nothing. kiki was able to put into words at first time about iffy dynamics between romantic feelings and herself. they went casual meals, movie nights — it was hang out for her, while he considered as romantic dates. what’s new for her, was both aware of the difference and okay with it. he was the first person who showed the way she can feel it might be work. she takes the agreement of being in relationship with other, as the proof of her consideration and affection to you, so that you can understand she cares about you. and aki was still questioning but kinda okay with it. however, they agree to stay friends since she rapped up her filming and back to her regular schedules in korea. the words he said — i see why you say the typical romantic is not on your shoes. and still, you are the most loving person i have ever met. even if the other loves you romantically, they still embrace your shape of love if their love was right enough. you don’t need to be afraid — still make her heart warm.

Oh boy. Not technically fictional, but in his fictional representation — Ecbert from Vikings. He’s so compelling and his motivations and intensity is like that of a Shakespearean villain. I mean, just look at his monologue to Jesus in the church. It takes my breath away every time. Even without context.

I also find the real actual story of the real actual man to be fascinating. In general, I find early Anglo-Saxon era British history fascinating.

I do! But none by blood. @will-write-for-food is my sister, who I met in high school. I also have a friend (it feels weird calling her a friend tbh. She’s just my sister) who I’ve had since I was 4 and she was five. She’s also biologically an “only child,” but that made our bond even stronger. Nobody but an only child understands how fucking boring summers are if you’re an only child like another only child. Several years in a row we lived together by force. I would sleep over at her house until her mom needed a break and then she would send us both back and to my parents and on and on we’d go. I was maid of honor at her wedding. I’m aunt to her children.

As for similarities: both my sisters and I are motivated by love and family and kindness and are naturally rebellious in a dangerous way. We can all be snarky and we are all funny as fuck. But we never wanted to do drugs or go out and do any of the dangerous things you saw teens do in movies. We all care deeply about making the world better and believe in the value of choosing kindness and love any time you have the chance—even if it means gritting your teeth and clenching your fist while doing so. But also, we would all fear the fucking world apart if you hurt anyone we love. We also never abandon our friends to prioritize romance. We all value friendship as its own distinct type of love and relationship that isn’t less important than anything else.

For my Since-Pre-k sister, we are really quite different people. She leans more conservative (not in a terrible way though) whereas I’m very leftist. She is extremely romance driven in a way that @will-write-for-food and I are not. Over all, I think she’s a lot more traditional and normative in her life choices than we are, but not in a judgmental way. It’s just how she is. And it doesn’t change any of the things that matter about any of us. @will-write-for-food and I are also much more intellectually motivated than she is. She isn’t dumb though! She’s very smart! She just doesn’t learn things for fun like we do. She goes out and does stuff instead. I value that about her. Whenever I get too in my head she is amazing at shaking me out of it. She’s also not super into politics. She’s very practical.

As for @will-write-for-food and I? Ooooooh boy. There is no way to fully disentangle this. She’s my other half. We are basically the same person. I’m much more optimistic than she is in general. And I’m also soooooooo much more humble. (😉😘) But she is so strong in a way that inspires me. She can keep her head down and keep moving forward in a way that is incomprehensible to me. I’m glad she’s learned to reach out more over the years and know that she doesn’t HAVE TO operate like a one woman emergency crew. But the fact that, when the chips are down, she *CAN?* It’s astounding to witness. She’s also funnier than me. Or anyone. She’s the funniest fucking person in the world. And if you think *I’M* patient?????????? You have all seen NOTHING. You don’t know the meaning of the word patience. None of us do. The word belongs to her.

As for a way I’m different than both of them? Aside from what was already mentioned, I think it’s pretty funny that they are both Irish Catholic with a big, loud Jewish found family.

I am extraordinarily excited for B3, but I'm not sure which route I'm doing first. Whichever route I am doing is my favorite in the moment lol.

Morgan is my favorite in a way because I feel like we get to go on this self-discovery journey with her. She is clearly puzzled at her own maintained interest, even if the detective turns her down for sex due to having feelings and wanting the sex to mean something. Watching her attempts to justify this as just being down for the chase is really funny. Especially as she grows more attached to the detective. For example, on this playthrough I just completed, I had my detective outright state "I don't want to have sex with you unless it means something." Given that Morgan accepts with a graceful "no big, one-night-stands aren't everyone's thing," you would expect her to either give up or realize that she might have actual feelings for this person. Buuuut she doesn't. She is at least questioning it, though, and I enjoy seeing the dissonance between what she says she wants and how she actually behaves from her perspective.

As for Nat... Well, I'll put it like this. When I was 8, I saw "The Color Purple" for the first time. If you are unfamiliar with the novel or film, it is a coming-of-age story about a young black woman named Celie living in the American South in the early 20th century. Anyway, there is a scene where Shug, a blues singer, is serenading Celie. She makes her way across the tavern as she sings about how resilient and kind Celie is, until she is kneeling in front of the other woman and gently pulling her hands away from her face to reveal this beautiful smile.

I was transfixed by that scene; it was the romantic ideal to me. Someone kind and patient meeting another person where they were at. I see Nat's route as meeting the same ideal. Hers feels the most like soulmates, even though I'm actually not a fan of that trope typically. It's very romantic, and I would 100% read a traditional novel about Nat.

Then there's Farah. As I mentioned above, whoever I'm romancing on a given route becomes I favorite. When I don't play for a while, I tend to gravitate towards Farah. She's a fun, friends-to-lovers, cozy romance. She's straightforward and honest about her feelings. She's the kind of person I would want to date IRL. I made a post a couple of months ago where I talked about Farah as being one of my top three comfort characters. In context of strictly Wayhaven, what makes Farah my favorite is that even when I'm not on her route, she's my favorite character. Not in a "I have to hold myself back from romancing her" kind of way, but in the way that even in the friend route, I absolutely love her. I have a type, and it's straightforward and chaotic.

Now I don't enjoy Ava's route as much for a few reasons. This disappoints me a bit, because there aren't a lot of a-spec ROs in games (I think William from Changeling is the last one I can remember really liking) and I like Ava as a character so much. She's complex and interesting, and I don't mind not having physicality as part of the romance (trust me, as a sex-averse person, I really don't mind). Nor do I take issue with characters being confused about their feelings. But Ava is aware of her feelings and of the Detective's. I know there are reasons as to why she is hesitant to begin a relationship, but her method of push-and-pull is deeply frustrating to me. In-universe, the Detective has even less insight as to why she does this, and in their place I would both feel extremely hurt and probably have given up pursuing anything with her.

This brings us to the LT. Now, generally, I am not a fan of LTs, as I don't like making choices like this in games. They stress me out XD. However, this tends to feel, to me, as the way Ava's romance works the best. If you weren't aware, TWC was originally intended to be a traditional novel series, with the Detective (who I think was orginally named Lauren) in a LT with Nate and Adam. This is why that is the only LT available -- it was central to the original plot. While I think Mishka has done a good job adapting to a different medium and all romances feel canon when it comes to individual playthroughs, I think A's status as 1/2 of a LT kind of lingers in the background on their individual route.

I am currently replaying everyone to have some saves ready and fresh in my mind for B3. I will most likely be on Farah when B3 becomes available, so she'll probably be the first lol.

1- good natured, genuine honesty

this one needs a small preface- to heysel the quality of honesty can only be called such when it puts you at risk of hurt. you must be a honest character, in the entirety, always. it needs to be that important. it's not just sharing something true but being so convinced in the correctness of it above all and so brave that even if this utter transparency can result in cleanly displaying where it could be easiest to hurt you most you still offer it because you believe it is the correct thing to do, and especially you offer it freely. done like this honesty is beautiful to her because it is a fearless act. heysel truly, deeply respects anyone capable of that sort of honesty; and, of course, professional awful thing that she is, she absolutely doesn't possess this sort of trait. lying is kind of her favourite hobby. she's done anything she could to make herself as opaque as possible. she is genuine, but she isn't honest.

2- an actual ability to compromise

this one is funny because the thing with heysel is that, broadly speaking, you have to put up a compelling argument for her not beating you to death instead of compromising with you. she can be patient; she will listen to what you propose. but whenever faced with the possibilities of either trying to come to a verbal, nonviolent solution that sort of pleases both or the extremely violent solution that pleases her, and how wonderful it is that violence is a fast solution to a plethora of issues, know that the timer is ticking.

3- an actual interest in self-preservation

it doesn't even matter if she can come back from death or not; heysel cheerfully refuses the notion that she is much like you a being of this earth, and she can place effort into prolonging her stay into her mortal shell. there's a reason behind this, and in part- like most things-it ties to her philosophy of violence, which is in turn a philosophy of existence; and in part it's just that she sees life as beautifully fleeting; and there are other reasons and other reasons. but ultimately you are before a woman who not only really doesn't care if she gets hurt, she willingly puts herself in situations in which getting hurt is guaranteed.

Lowkey, I put yall together just because I thought it was funny, but I don't think there is actually a better match then this it just works so well.

So, like you guys are the type of couple that people look at and be wondering: why/how on earth are these two together? And sometimes you ask yourself the same question when you have to put up with Ajax's antics (You use his real name when you're annoyed with him), but deep-down you guys love each other so much.

Had you guys been normal people you two probably wouldn't have given each other the time of day. However, you two aren't normal people. You're both members of the infamous Fatui organization, and you have both been assigned to the same mission in Liyue.

During the mission Childe kept trying to make conversation with you from just casual conversation to playful teasing, and yet you didn't bat an eye. Oh, that just made him want to break you more. You've caught his interest now and he's not one to lose easily (even if it is a one-sided competition).

From then on Childe did everything he possibly could to get your attention. You know how some people say that boys bully you because they like you, well that'd Childe although it's less bullying and more just being an annoying lil shit.

Eventually he realizes that what he feels isn't a desire to win at some competition, but to get your attention. He realizes how deeply he's fallen for you and starts trying to woo you instead. He notices how much you like astronomy and reading, so for your birthday he managed to use his connections to get you a rare out of print astronomy book. After seeing how thoughtful a gift it was, he started to worm his way into your heart.

You guys didn't get together until the incident with the traveler. After the fight and releasing the power of the delusion Childe was in pretty bad shape. He practically collapsed in your arms as you two made your escape. As you nursed him back to health and tended to your own wounds you both realized how terrifying it would be to lose the other. It planted a heavy tension in the air which led you two to talking about your feelings (It may have also helped that you two were a little drunk on pain medication but whatever works works I guess).

From then on you two are an official item, although not much changes dynamic wise. Childe tries to impress you by doing something dumb, you get him out of said dumb thing, scold him for a lifetime while sometimes patching him up if the situation calls for it, all while having a slight smile on your face wondering how you fell in love with such an idiot. You two are also an unbeatable pair in combat.

Dates for you two are quite simple given your hectic work life. Mainly they'll be spent taking long walks through whatever new location you two have been assigned to; exploring the area, seeing the sights, enjoying the food, and finding a high enough point to stargaze when the sun goes down (Childe bought you a new telescope and you scolded him for spoiling him even knowing full well he's still gonna do it anyway).

Childe's family absolutely adores you. Every time you and him go to visit his siblings swarm you and call you big sisters. His parents really appreciate the help, you even do the cooking and cleaning (even though they insisted you didn't have to since you told them it calms you down, they just let you).

Childe will do anything to protect you. Despite how goofy and competitive he can be, if anything ever happened to you this man would see red and stop at nothing till you were safe in his arms again.

FF14 Shadowbringers thoughts

checks date from Stormblood post: ok so Shadowbringers took about a year (took a break in December). It's funny that this expansion was the one I was most spoiled on and what I knew about the plot was interesting enough for me to agree to play with my friend vs quitting in ARR, and I'm glad to have done so.

Since I knew the big plot points I didn't really take that many notes and a number of them are comparisons to what I knew from fic and osmosis from destiny 2 people I follow

Also maybe it was just bad luck, maybe the state of the playerbase who have already done this expac (and want a quick easy run) getting put into matchmade Shadowbringers story dungeons in 2024 but the easy ones were easy, the harder ones had people being the most assholish I've seen when my friend or I would mess up mechanics.

Had to get it explained why the Warrior of light shake their head at the red green smart phone looking things in the merchant area. I just play main story quest and occasionally level alts through job quests. I care nothing for tomestones

Nooo why is the target marking game back as I browse wares. All the fanfic left this out and for good reason

Dramatic Ysholta moment undercut by me wondering why non one has a grab item spell. Extremely funny for my friend we hit this moment then he went on vacation

Thancred’s arc is infuriating actually playing through it and I even knew the broad strokes of it, where I wish it was more centered on Ryne and her agency. The control Thrancred fight went on a bit too long

Storge was a tough fight, where I just couldn't do the mechanics and heal, and the 2 other people with us got real pissy. Thankfully the backfill people were good at throwing on a marker and I could just follow the gold crown around and stand where they stood.

Finally got the extreme moral relativism cutscene “Not be murder if I kill you”. From this cutscene its obvious why for a while I thought the issue was with the Star/Sun, so like the solution was leave the solar system (like the Necrons)

The Anaking Padme field meme of like “So if the 13th Shard is broken then the combination plan can’t work anymore right”. Its an obvious logical hole but it doesn’t matter because logic can’t stop the Ascians

For most individual duties since the Shri Lakshmi one, I feel like they’re a waste of my time attempting them on normal difficulty vs just throwing immediately to get very easy. For context I play about 2 hours a week with a friend, so repeating a 15/20 minute event eats up a chunk of time. Its been a notable increase in DPS check challenge or positioning, and it fucking sucks repeating the whole thing because I have 2.5 damage spells or its been a month between the Thancred Ran’jit fight so I can’t clear the trick where the entire floor becomes 1 hit KO

Ironic he judges The Scions would fall short if the final days happened again, but then Zodiark didn’t exactly solve the final days just pause things

The shadow bringers soundtrack cutting in with the Ardbert and Gr’aha cutscene was great

Me a chronic d2 player: wow so fighting this ff14 dude Hades has a bunch of veiled figures we have to defeat first, and then there’s a bit where we almost die but have to channel the light, then we fight in a circle with AOE killing attacks across the platform, then we channel the light again (this was back when I was running Destiny 2 Salvations Edge a lot)

Emet Selch for best Final Fantasy villain of the decade, I’d be a lot more sad about his death if not for how he isn’t quite dead, and in a sense he’s free

doing the post Shadowbringers spectral beserker fight and having a rough go of it, mainly due to runback time. really higlighting how ff14 is very visual cue oriented which I struggle with vs destiny audio cue oriented. especially when as healer my target is another player vs the boss to see a bar charge up.

The Elidibus storyline was my favorite of the post patch storylines for Shadowbringers and up there with favorite patch storylines

HKJDFHJGK YES OMG HI JINX…. OKAY SO this is gonna get LONG. take everything i say with a grain of salt as someone who hasnt finished the show And has my own perspective on the characters . but.

in terms of hawkeye pierce, he's a man who is so determined to save people even at his own expense that early on in the series, there's an episode where he is sleep deprived to the point of danger for himself and others, but the patients keep coming, so he doesn't stop working. he's kind in a way that you don't expect, because he can seem brash and crass. he's a flirtatious troublemaker who resents the war and a pacifist who refuses to carry a gun, and he's got these intense moments of… i can't really explain it. melancholy is too light a word. but in an early/mid-series season, there's an episode where he expresses such intense hopelessness at the situation while laying down in a truck with BJ standing over him. you'll understand when you see him, but he's very clearly in a state of despair he masks with his humor and flirtations and mischief, but he knows if he goes home, then that means there's less of a chance of the kids that come in making it home, so he stays. despite desperately wanting to be home.

KLINGER MY BEST FRIEND KLINGER!!!!!!!!!!! okay. klinger is a hard one to pin down because behind all the schemes to get out of the army (literally has written dozens of letters saying they're from home about relatives dying, being pregnant, or both. you'll see) there's just someone who wants to go home so bad it hurts. he's a funny and genuinely very kind person. at the end of the day, when someone needs him, he's there. he takes care of the blood drives during emergencies, he has a deep fondness for anyone who's close with him, and in spite of everything happening around him, he's still doing his best to stand his ground on not wanting to be in the army, but never neglecting the bonds he's made. he's also deeply fashionable, and can seem rough around the edges (has tried to kill people in the show), but to me, he seems like a fiercely loyal friend once you've earned his loyalty.

margaret is so. i love her so much in the later seasons, but you may be confused by that when you first meet her. strict and by-the-rules. she is a stringent and very strong-willed woman with real skill as a nurse, yet is a snitch who will demand people be discharged and court martialed. but, she also grew up a military brat. she has lived by these rules - and broken them for funsies - her whole life. her military career is what she can hold onto during the worst of times. she had to become strong and cold so that she would not crack under pressure, and as she loosens up, we find out she's actually extremely hilarious and just desperately needs good friends. she comes across to me as someone who, at some point, just wants to get to stop being strong and finally be soft for a while. she has trouble being on her own because she needs the validation of a close relationship, but the best friendships she could have seem to be at times right under her nose.

father mulcahy my beloved ♥♥♥♥………….. okay. so, he's genuinely one of the best characters imo, due to the amount of complexity afforded to him in the bit of screentime he gets here and there (increasing by season). he needs to be needed. he desperately needs to feel useful and recognized for his work, but he often feels as if the entire camp doesn't need him whatsoever. he's very compassionate and considerate, generous and kind, shy and studious, and is always there when someone needs a listening ear. problem is, i think the fact he hardly has anyone he can go to for the same contributes to his low self-esteem. he's also a boxer, and is shown to have trouble with anger here and there, but he keeps it well under control. he is a man of intense faith in an impossible situation. he's a comforting figure for so many, and too humble to realize what an impact he's made.

radar is kind of similar to father mulcahy in that he's very kind, but whereas father mulcahy is kind and wise from his years of life experience and study, radar is the kind of person who can seem very naive unless someone knows him - and in some areas, he really is naive. he gets involved in mischief here and there, but he also struggles with socializing and being seen as an adult. in the show, he's roughly 18-19 when s1 starts (he was in high school when he was drafted), and he's a farm boy from iowa whose family was very strictly methodist, and as such, sorta sheltered him. he goes to hawkeye and trapper and BJ for advice a lot of the time - especially hawkeye - and tends to lean on them for support in the usual growing pains of being a teenage boy in a situation no kid should be in. he loves animals and children and has been shown to be excellent with both in the show. he's just… genuinely such a good person, with a great heart, and with so much going on around him that'll stick with him for the rest of his life. and he's one of the first to point out how unfair this war is to any human being when asked. i think he gets underestimated a lot, if that makes sense.

ah frank………you know what, frank is a mess. he's strict and rule-abiding to the absolute extreme and is often the first to raise a fuss, but there's these beautiful moments in the midst of all the chaos that remind you that he's still a person. he went through some pretty shit ordeals as a kid, and he explains that the reason he became a snitch was to have someone to talk to. he's expressed multiple times he's never had friends, and always been very alone, and as such he became the person he is today. in a way, i think his rule-abiding nature is in part an effort to get people to like him, but he doesn't understand that he can't force others to do the same things as him, and individuality is an important thing that he just cannot grasp. but, from what i've read, there's hints that he was written partially as a closeted queer man, which makes sense in some manners when we discuss the idea of the ""ideal"" army doctor and what masculinity at the time looked like, vs everything he is. i think he's fascinating in the way a wasp in a jar is fascinating. he's got some depth, which can be fun to pry into.

I meant to write down my thoughts about this film like 3 weeks ago but kept forgetting lol. anyway spoilers for the film below the cut

I'm so glad I went to see this. I was interested in the concept, but tbh I was mostly going to see it because I like Daisy Ridley, and I was looking forward to seeing her in a new role. my partner tagged along with me because he'll see anything, but wasn't super keen. and we both loved it. it's so lowkey, understated, and so beautifully observed. it's also much funnier than I think the marketing makes it out to be - our screening wasn't too busy (3pm on a sunny saturday), but there were a lot of laughs. tears, too; my partner was pretty much sobbing at the end.

more than anything, I think it's one of the most relatable films I've seen. once upon a time I was a numb, depressed & antisocial woman working in a dull office actively fantasising about death, but not actively suicidal. sometimes i think about dying really nailed that limbo - where you're thinking about being dead, thinking about being an artfully-arranged corpse (a pretty corpse; a tragic corpse) in a remote forest or hanging from a crane, but not actually thinking about the method of dying. not really wanting to die, because, functionally, you're already dead. you're quiet, you're unsettling, you're not sociable, people don't notice you. they stopped noticing you a while ago. when you do step out of your comfort zone, you're always thinking: what happens when they see the real me? what happens when they find out who I really am? and instead of sometimes i think about dying becoming a cutesy boy-gets-girl-out-of-her-shell story, as a lesser film could be, we see how Fran does fuck it up, and ultimately hurts the one person who has seen her - and yet he still chooses to extend empathy and kindness to her.

Daisy Ridley really nailed the character of Fran, her performance full of subtle little facial expressions and stiff, considered movements. the most relaxed we see her is in the back half of the film when she spends her whole sunday rotting on her sitting room carpet, only moving to turn onto her side, or to get the beam of sunlight out of her eyes as it tracks across the floor - and then it's monday, and she gets up and ready for work, stiff and curled in on herself again. then we have the beautiful scene where she bumps into her old coworker at the cafe, and we see her perched on the edge of her seat, frowning, bag clutched to her chest, unable to reach out and comfort the woman she's known for years but never really known.

Dave Meherje was great, too, as Robert, Fran's new coworker, someone very sure of himself but also someone with a lot of grace, kindness, and patience. I was reminded - and my partner was too - about my own relationship, although in a less extreme way than we see in the film. I saw much of myself - melancholic, moderately antisocial, physically withdrawn - in Fran, just as my partner did, and I saw him - generous, empathetic, patient, someone who can talk to anyone - in Robert. thankfully our relationship (seven years strong) works out a bit better than Fran and Robert in the film, but I was reminded of the sweetness of finding someone who sees you and accepts you for who you are, someone with the depth of spirit to show you empathy and understanding. the final scene, where Fran confesses (and pretty much says the title of the film) her inner thoughts to Robert, and he just embraces her, and the camera pans out to show the office around them full of greenery from the forest where she so often dreams about her own dead body - I found that so moving, so beautiful. not a happy ending, but not a sad one; an understanding one. an empathetic one.

it's also a deeply funny film, something I didn't expect from the trailer and promo. Rachel Lambert & the cast really nail that experience of working in an office, being stuck in a stale, beige room with a group of people you'd never choose to spend time with otherwise day in, day out, on repeat. every character felt like the protagonist of their own film. I know I've worked with every character in that office. the inane banter and weird rituals of the office are so well observed, from the stilted, formal joking over microsoft teams to the icebreaker questions in the all-hands meeting. the scene where Fran has to play the murder victim at the party is also hilarious - her awkward, uncomfortable death pose in the bath, the way her voice croaks and pauses as she comes up with her story ("acid....in my stomach?") and the way the other guests stand and watch in dumfounded silence for a moment before laughing and applauding, having seen, for a second, something that clearly unsettled them; a glimpse of the darkness inside the quiet, mousy girl who never talks.

it also looks gorgeous - the PNW scenery is a whole character in its own right. every shot, even the office interiors, is carefully framed and composed.

my main takeaway, walking home from the cinema, was catharsis. I remembered what it was like being 20, working an admin job in an office where I typed up reports from cassette tapes that other colleagues had dictated, feeling nothing, fantasising about being hit by a car on my walk home. (I am better now, I cannot stress that enough). I felt seen and understood. it's hard to be human. it's hard to be someone like Fran, but it's even harder to be someone like Robert:

The setting is: post-Dolores/the Naveen reveal, but pre-Miami.

Let's get started!

INT. COFFEE SHOP - MID-AFTERNOON

Two doctors sit at a small table. One has her leg crossed, foot swinging lightly. Her face is open and slightly amused. The other has his hands clasped loosely between his open legs. He is blatantly less impressed than his colleague.

Ethan: This is ludicrous.

Brooke: [laughs lightly] Can't you just humour them?

Ethan: Last time I checked, we had a job that didn't involve answering foolish questions for some sophomore publication.

Brooke: They want to humanize the doctors in the hospital. Make us more… approachable. It's not a bad idea.

Ethan: [in a low grumble] I don't want to be approached or humanized.

Brooke [loud laugh] Shocker.

Are we all set to begin?

Brooke: [clears throat] Er, yes. Sorry.

Ethan: [glares]

When I first saw them, I thought ____________

Brooke and Ethan: [look at each other for a beat, then speak simultaneously]

Brooke: Well, I— Ethan: She, uh—

Ethan: [clears throat] You go first.

Brooke: [shoots him a look] Well. I, uh, was taken aback by your presence.

Ethan: What does that mean?

Brooke: Well, you know, you're very—you command a room, let's just say. And then you got awfully bossy, but it was good because I was panicking. And, uh—that's pretty much it. Your turn.

Ethan: I thought she was very young and inexperienced. And I was proven correct almost immediately.

Brooke: [elbows him] Can't you say something nice?

Ethan: You said commanding and bossy!

Brooke: It was a compliment!

Ethan: Fine. She was…surprisingly competent for an intern.

Brooke: [sarcastically waves a hand in front of her face] My goodness, I'm swooning.

What is your coworker's most used swear word?

Brooke and Ethan: "Fuck."

Brooke: It's not very professional, but—

Ethan: —it is necessary at times. Although I did hear another one from you the other day that I quite enjoyed. "Son of a whore", was it?

Brooke: [blushes] Whoops.

Ethan: You're lucky there weren't any patients around.

Brooke: [innocently] Patients don't swear?

Ethan: [withering look] I'll let you know when patients need to be held to the same professional standards as the doctors who treat them.

Brooke: Well, whatever. I was in the supply closet anyway and it was because I had gotten a cardboard papercut, which is notoriously the worst kind of papercut—[suddenly eyes him suspiciously] I didn't even know you were there.

Ethan: [coughs] I was, uh, walking past when I heard your inappropriate outburst and I stopped to ensure it wasn't a wayward psychiatric patient lost amongst the halls.

Brooke: [dryly] Hilarious.

Quick: What color are their eyes?

Brooke: Oh, blue. Blue-blue. Like, a very crystal clear blue.

Ethan: I think we get it. Brooke's eyes are hazel but they err on the side of green.

Brooke: "Err on the side of green"?

Ethan: Yes. Like when you wore that sweater the other day, they appeared more— [clears throat] I'm not going to sit here and explain the illusion of refractory light. Next question.

Three people at work your coworker hates?

Brooke: [dryly] Just thr—?

Ethan: [cuts her off] Yes, yes, we get the joke, I hate everyone. Brooke on the other hand, hates no one. I believe she should be more discerning.

Brooke: You would.

What is your coworker’s strangest or most endearing quirk?

Ethan: Endearing? I—

Brooke: Oh, oh—the tie thing!

Ethan: The… tie thing?

Brooke: You do this thing when you're trying to get your emotions under control. It's like a [presses thumb against her other fingers in a crab-claw gesture] grab all the way down and then a flat palm just to smooth it again. [mimics a smoothing gesture down the front of her shirt, keeping her face pinched and stoic]. The "double-tie-grab-and-smooth" is what I call it. As of two seconds ago.

Ethan: Fascinating. As for Brooke, I can think of two.

Brooke: Here we go.

Ethan: The first is to ensure she never borrows your pen, as it will be returned to you as though someone inserted it into a pencil sharpener. I don't know how she isn't covered in ink constantly, the way she gnaws on the ends so violently.

Brooke: First of all, it's not that bad. Secondly, [mumbles] I have had a pen or two explode on me.

Ethan: I am extremely unsurprised. And the second is the sheer number of cardigans left everywhere - around my office, the faculty room, patients' rooms, and so on. She leaves them like breadcrumbs in a children's fairytale.

Brooke: [laughing too hard to speak]

Ethan: Yes, very funny and professional.

Brooke: [still laughing] Could you at least…grab one…next time you see it? I'm running low!

Ethan: What a surprise.

If they had a crush on anyone at work, who would that be?

Ethan: [scoffs] A "crush"? The very concept of a 'crush' is extremely juvenile and I refuse to pander to such incongruous—

Brooke: Dr. Harper Emery

Ethan: [splutters] I beg your pardon?

Brooke: [smirks]

Ethan: Well, yours would be that scalpel jockey surfer boy that's always mooning over you.

Brooke: [turns to him, aghast] Bryce? I don't have a crush on him! And neither does he. On me, I mean.

Ethan: On you, indeed.

Brooke: What's that supposed to mean?

Ethan: Hmm? Oh, nothing. Simply that the way he pressed you to the floor in the observation room of Surgery B would say otherwise, that's all.

Brooke: [blushes deeply] You saw that?

Ethan: I see everything, Rookie.

[There is an extended, awkward silence.]

Never Have I Ever:

Ethan: What is this now?

Brooke: [hides a smile] It's a game. A drinking game. You really don't know it?

Ethan: If you're asking if I'm familiar with a college-level excuse to get sauced and forget about my classes for the next week, then no. I don't know it.

Brooke: [rolls her eyes] It's simple. They ask a question. If you've done it, you take a drink. If you haven't, you don't. And [lightly swings her take-out coffee cup in his face] I don't think you'll get drunk on herbal tea, so you'll be fine.

Okay, let's begin. Never have I ever…

Brooke and Ethan: [take a drink]

Brooke: Really?

Ethan: I wish I could affect the same level of surprise for you.

Brooke and Ethan: [take a drink]

Ethan: [raises an eyebrow at Brooke]

Brooke: [shrugs] Rowdy childhood.

Ethan: [nods] Same. [coughs] Perhaps… rowdy adolescence. And, uh, [another light cough] early adulthood, as well.

Brooke: Dr. Ramsey!

...been kicked out of a bar

Ethan: [takes a drink]

Brooke: Oh?

Ethan: That rowdy early adulthood I spoke of? Yeah.

Brooke: Ah.

Brooke: [avoids eye contact, takes a drink]

Ethan: [turns to her swiftly, looking shocked, then quickly composes himself] Let me guess - dolphin on your ankle?

Brooke: Shut up.

Ethan: Christ, am I right?

Brooke: No, but you might as well be.

Ethan: [laughs, which seems to surprise them both, then clears his throat] We all have regrets, Dr Spiers.

Brooke: [grimaces and slouches in her seat]

Ethan: [stares at her for a beat longer than necessary, before leaning back in his chair with a thoughtful expression]

Ethan and Brooke: [quickly look at each other; neither drinks]

Brooke: No? You?

Ethan: What's that supposed to mean?

Brooke: Just surprised all this [gestures vaguely at his face] didn't get the ladies all worked up in—where are you from?

Ethan: Rhode Island. And no, "all this" [gestures to his own face] took awhile to grow into itself, I assure you.

Brooke: [laughs] Oh, big same.

Ethan: [gives her a sidelong glance, a soft smile playing at his lips]

Brooke: [takes a drink]

Ethan: Really?

Brooke: What, it's so hard to believe?

Ethan: Well, you said you'd never broken someone's heart.

Brooke: [smiles at him softly, a bit sadly] Never said my heart hadn't been broken, Dr Ramsey. Some people are the heartbreakers, some are the broken-hearted.

Ethan: [splutters] Preposterous.

Brooke: [looks surprised] What is?

Ethan: That you—I mean, that is—that someone— [he pauses, fidgeting with his tie before smoothing it down] It's his loss, Rookie. [clears his throat, looking away]

Brooke: [smiles, bemused yet pleased, a warmth in her eyes] Thank you, Dr Ramsey.

Where do you see him in five years (both professionally and in his personal life?)

Oh, [scoffs out a laugh] wherever he wants to be. He's Ethan freaking Ramsey. He can do whatever he wants. What's the highest position in the hospital? Chief of Medicine? That. [Thinks for a moment] Well, no, actually. He probably wouldn't want to be admin. But whatever he could do that would still have him on the ground, helping people, at the highest level of expertise - that's where he'll be.

And, uh, personally?

Oh. Well. [fidgets, looks away]. I'm sure I don't know. Probably married to some supermodel who will put up with him never being home and always being reticent and grouchy. [Laughs humourlessly]

What do you find the most impressive about him?

Oh gosh. [Pauses] Probably how much he cares. I know you see him now and you think, god, what an asshole. And you're not wrong. But the truth is, he has to maintain this facade of a huge, unfeeling jerk, because the fact of the matter is he cares so deeply. [Her expression goes distant and soft]. Honestly, he cares so much I'm worried it will be his downfall one day.

Last thing he texted you?

[Laughs] He hates texting. But I think it was, "What time is this - redacted - thing again"?

If he asked you out on a date, what would you say?

Ah… [laughs uncomfortably] What, like, right now? The way we are? Or as two… random people in a bar?

Right now. The way you are.

[Blushes and continues to laugh awkwardly] Is he—you said he won't see these?

No, this part will be anonymous and the information gathered will be for statistical purposes, not anecdotal.

[Fake bravado affectation] Oh, well, if it's for statistics— [pauses] I would say yes. In a heartbeat. I would say yes. [Smiles, almost apologetically] I mean, have you seen him?

For Ethan (Brooke is not there)

Where do you see her in five years (both professionally and in his personal life?)

Wherever she wants to be. She's a highly motivated and intelligent individual. I give her a hard time, because I see great potential in her and feel as though, as her mentor, she should be pushed to achieve the pinnacle of success. Which is undoubtedly capable of.

And personal?

I don't presume to know what the future holds for my interns' personal lives. [A long pause] But I would hope… [clears throat, picks non-existent lint off his pants, continues gruffly] I would hope she remains happy and healthy, without anymore instances of [clears throat, again] heartbreak. Of any kind.

What specifically do you find attractive about her?

I'm sorry?

What do you find attractive—

No, I heard you, I just find this sort of question wildly inappropriate and I refuse to answer it.

Okay, so we'll just put down 'nothing'.

Hold on, don't—I didn't say nothing. Just say I didn't answer.

We need some sort of answer.

Oh, for Christ's sake—will she see this? Will anyone?

No, it's information that will be used for statistical—

Fine, alright, I don't care. She's obviously an incredibly attractive woman. Are you happy? [Pauses] I mean, specifically? I would say her eyes. Especially when she smiles and they crinkle up on the sides. Also, her laugh. She's not a woman who 'titters'. Brooke isn't afraid to—well, to simply live. She laughs loudly, loves boldly, defends strongly. [His expression grows thoughtful,] She said I was a presence in a room? When she walks into—anywhere, the entire room stands still. It's like the air has been sucked out of it. And within seconds, they're enthralled. Within minutes, they love her. That's Brooke. [Clears throat] Don't put any of that. Just write down "Her intelligence."

Last thing she texted you?

"Be nice." And then some moving picture image of a dog wagging its finger. [Rolls his eyes] I hate texting.

If she asked you out on a date, how would you respond?

[Sighs wearily]

Again, she won't know. It's for statistical—

[Waves hand dismissively before sighing once more] In an ideal world—[cuts himself off and tries again] Look. Any man would be lucky to have Dr. Brooke Spiers as his partner. [Pauses] And that includes me. [clears throat] But we don't live in an ideal world. And a relationship between her and I would not only be inappropriate, but it would also inhibit her potential to achieve the highest levels of success that she is capable of achieving. [Pauses] And I would never do that to her.

[Stands up abruptly] Are we done here? We're done. Rookie! [Leaves to meet Dr. Spiers, who is waiting for him outside.]

EXT. COFFEE SHOP - LATE AFTERNOON

OBSERVED FROM INSIDE THE COFFEE SHOP

The two doctors greet each other with a smile. NOTE: Dr Ramsey immediately appears calmer in the other doctor's presence.

He says something and Dr Spiers bumps him playfully with her shoulder. Dr Ramsey continues to speak, gesturing towards her ankle, and Dr Spiers throws her head back and laughs loudly.

Dr Ramsey watches her laugh with a small smile on his face, before allowing her shove him lightly in the direction that they are meant to take.

They walk side by side, chatting and smiling, until they disappear from view.
