fiiiiine i guess i can orlapost on main if you really wantttt
ORLA FOLKOR
gnome
researcher with the order of the cobalt soul
bard on her character sheet, wizard in personality and cleric in combat role
they call her 007: 0 ability to stay on topic. 0 tact. 7 hundred questions per conversation
BREAKING NEWS local tenth level bard took commune off magical secrets, now has casual-bordering-on-sacrilegious relationship with knowing mistress
she also took find greater steed and now has a divine peryton after writing exandria's first ever book on perytons and bringing knowledge of them into ioun's fold
the peryton's name is card (short for cardiovore) and they're best friends
first session events:
i genuinely got to start a conversation with a tiefling character with "oooh i love your horns, what's your infernal heritage?" orla just has NO sense of time or place
due to high charisma for bard spellcasting, and jack of all trades, she's also the de facto party intimidator, despite this being wildly out of character. she achieves this by asking rapid-fire personal questions on stuff like home security practices and the tensile strength of human bones given different dietary habits. (these are all just things she's genuinely interested in)
whenever we learn something new about a party member's backstory, orla just starts scribbling the details in her little bigger-on-the-inside notebook. it makes everyone very uncomfortable
had the first session of a new dnd campaign today and it was GREAT. thank you @limulusamebocytelysate best dm wonderful friend
it's completely off-topic but i might post about my character for the campaign... i really love her (and doing rp as her). so if you like this post i'll take that as permission and encouragement thank you!
#not fl#but also i love orla so much#party dynamics are forming already#she's also the oldest member of the party by a long way#she's in her early 80s#which is pretty young for a gnome#anyway#orlaposting#<- she doesn't get a proper oc tag because she's not on-topic

Here are three Inuyashas that I drew mainly for lineart and posing practice. I colored them in the early manga's pink pallet. I think a pink Inu makes him look somewhat ghostly.
#the three patterns here were originally stockphotos that i heavily painted on top of#my art#inuyasha#inu yasha#i really like how rumiko does her line weight ..#thats the thing i like about 70s and 80s and early 90s manga.. the pretty line weight#in early manga you can really see how tezuka married ink paintings with disney's linework . ..#and in rumiko's work especially i think u can see that line weight comes from traditional ink paintings ..#whenever she draws one of the yokai flying parades i just think it's beautiful ahdfaksjdfhsfh i want that lineart depth so i study it

Vincent and Isaac make quite the team! They work well together and win many cases in court. However, they don't know much about each other outside of work. On the way to meet their new client, Isaac questioned Vincent to try to get to know him better. He did not share much, only giving vague answers. Then they saw their client. "Isaac, meet Mr. Felix Reichmann!" Vincent exclaimed. "Reichmann." Isaac muttered under his breath, troubled by the surname.

Thinking about the people going in and out of Helen's life, and who she could reasonably have a bond/connection with that 1) is not romantic in nature, and 2) has been by her side both before the trojan war in Sparta and during it in Troy, and there IS someone.
It's Aethra. Aethra, daughter of King Pittheus, mother of Theseus.
Aethra who first met Helen when she was a child (at oldest, not of marriageable age, and at youngest, 7) after Theseus drops her off on his mother's doorstep to look after until she's old enough (ick). Aethra who ends up being taken back to Sparta as a hostage once Helen's brothers raze the city (either Aphidna or Athens). Aethra who becomes Helen's slave at some point after this (whether immediately or once she's an adult). Aethra who goes with Helen and Paris on the ship to Troy. Aethra who is still by her side after 10 years of war, still alive, who is found by her grandsons Demophon and Acamas. Aethra who is released from the possession of Helen after she gives her consent and accepts the arrangement. Aethra who leaves Troy with her grandsons and finally gets to go home.
Giving it a very rough estimate, they end up being stuck in each other's lives for somewhere between 25 - 40 years... which is quite a long time. Accounting for the fact that Aethra is still very much a) the mother of Helen's kidnapper, and b) Helen's slave, she's still most likely the closest thing Helen has had to a long-term maternal figure in her life.
And she lets her go. After everything, after such a destructive and devastating war and the aftermath of it, Aethra may very well be the only person to whom Helen can grant some happiness in the ashes of Troy.
(I'm not even going to begin to pretend that I have the pre-requisite knowledge to unpack Aethra's position as royalty-to-hostage-to-slave or how she would've been treated. Also the considerations of historical knowledge of slavery in ancient Greece vs. Aethra being a mythological character from thousands of years ago. If anyone does please be my guest and inform me!)
#helen of sparta#aethra#greek mythology#god... isn't it all just depressing *head in hands*#at minimum in regards to their relationship we can say that helen releasing aethra is a Positive thing.#everything else - all of that in between time - is up to interpretation. I would like to think its complicated but skewing neutral-positive#because gosh there are so many 'this could be read one way but also like this' parts to their choices.#aethra going w/ helen to troy. is that 'you must come with me you're my property' or 'you have a choice and you chose to join me anyway'#anyway their relationship and all the events they witness together is very very interesting to me.#I'm honestly impressed aethra makes it out alive because she has to be in her 70s or 80s by the fall of troy. that woman Went Through It#also of interest btw: there's an opera from the early 1900s called 'The Egyptian Helen' that has a very unique take on aethra#where she's a sorceress and saves both helen and her marriage with menelaus. maybe i'll post about it one day

no offense but i think when critiquing jay’s (and let’s be real all of the OG four ninja’s) behavior in the pilots and early seasons, a lot of people ignore that the cultural context and attitude about misogyny and especially misogyny in children’s media is VERY different today than it was in the late 2000s/early 2010s
#not saying it’s great but lots of the shit early seasons jay gets flack for was standard for male protags. ESPECIALLY if part of the plot#was *them unlearning it*. yknow. what they were trying to show with the resolution of the sam x arc#i’m not saying they did it really well but the cultural attitudes in the US about gender have VASTLY changed since 2011#like when the netflix show cut sokka’s misogynistic jokes everyone was upset that they were taking away a character growth moment .#not saying ninjago has equivalent writing quality *but* those storylines come from the same cultural narrative that was prevalent at the ti#time. guy character flirts with girl -> doubts her abilities -> doesn’t believe she is actually as skilled when she gets her overblown#Girlboss Moment -> awkward reconciliation bc all these plots were written by middle ages men who haven’t been teenagers since the 80s#text✨#ninjago#ninjago was very firmly a boy’s show. it had consequences. and like… just in general you gotta take the context that story choices were#made in into account#okay thanks for reading the ramble 👍 jay rose early seasons enjoyer (with caveats) strikes again#i’m running on four hrs of sleep before a long work day gurantee i’ll reread this in 12 hrs and find seven mistakes

#thinking of dinosaurs and troodontids were my favorite dinosaurs as a child#when younger i had a real full troodontid tooth fossil that meant a lot to me#for a time we lived within a few kilometers of hadrosaur sites and troodontid sites#while wider general area had many sites of recovery for the big celebrities like tyrannosaur and multiple dromaeosaurs#at that time troodontids were kinda infamous for i think the depiction in some childrens field guides and dino books#which depicted like a fantasy speculative humanoid troodontid based on 1980s model at Canadian Museum of Nature in ottawa#anyway would visit a small local paleo center a lot and woman in her 70s or 80s ran the counter of their center and rock shop#one day she asked me what my fave dino was and i said troodon so she pulled out the tooth and just gifted it to me#in little black case size of ring box with padding and transparent plastic viewing cover kinda like laminate for displaying a trading card#tooth got stolen from out my vehicle while giving some people a ride while at university before i got too poor for tuition#later during first year of pandemic owner of my storage unit died and new property owners threw away everything i ever owned#i was homeless anyway lost job due to early pandemic closures and had to allocate any money to insulin and other prescrip meds#but wouldve found a way to save my things if the new owners had contacted me#they threw out photoalbums y backpacking gear y books y musical instruments y clothes y artwork y camera y all family keepsakes#and all childhood treasures like souvenirs and gifts and school awards and writing portfolios and all the little memories#which i was always sentimental about as child#from earliest age my room looked like a natural history museum with plants and maps and library of field guides#and rocks and field trip keepsakes and all kinds of little animal figurines and mother had painted room in forest greens and browns#to feel like a forest and among the succulent plants and a globe sat the troodon tooth#parents passed when i was a child#never near any family and were always moving never got to settle into proper stable place then father passed after long sad illness#and mother put in so much effort but she passed few years later and i could not take care of myself or my remaining material possessions#and so im still quite hurt having nothing whatsoever remaining of my childhood or school friends or mother or life generally#and when trying to process grief my thoughts often come back to the troodontid tooth as a focal point a distillation of what was lost#even when young i knew it was advised not to become too connected to material physical possessions#but still there are some small little trinkets in our lives that seem to hold so much meaning and i tortured myself for losing that tooth#thinking about troodon reminds me of childhood

I'm sorry if this is an inappropriate question but does June have bottom surgery? I'm down HORRIBLE for her 👀 and wanted to know what sexy time would be like with her. If you're not comfortable answering this I totally understand. My ape brain for her is outta control.
She's only had top surgery.
Also, if ape brain wants more sexy time details, feel free to ask @sapphicfangs
#june came out as trans in the 80s but had been dressing more femme for quite a while#but didn't have funds or access to any resources until the early 2000s#her story falls in line with the state of black healthcare resources in the US during the time#and the history of gender-affirming care#basically she decided not to#she loves herself as is#and as someone who's also down bad for her#[insert lemon popsicle gif] 🙏🙏🙏

what’s your favorite book you’ve read this year??? i gotta pick up something new!!
what a lovely question to receive! im so sorry for the delayed response and that i dont know your taste in books (please feel free to dm me anytime and talk about them!) but i really enjoyed The Gilda Stories to the point i've read it three times within the same month!
its a 1991 novel forcing on a Black lesbian that escapes enslavement and eventually becomes a vampire by two lesbians. each chapter being about a different time period in her life [1850, 1890, 1921, 1971, 1981, 2020, 2050]!
i dont want to give too much away if you havent read it yet but the writing is so enchanting and Jewelle Gomez's style is one of my favorites. its simultaneously melancholic and comforting, holding onto the message of how important hope for tomorrow is despite the current state of today and that community is needed not only for survival but for actual living—that those connections is what makes life truly fulfilling. i've underlined so many little lines in almost every passage (when not underlining the entire passage itself!) because i just love gilda herself as well as how her motivations, desires, and resilience is written and explored. plus i find the way vampires and how they function to be such a beautiful idea and so creative :) i really hope you read it and enjoy it as much as i have!! <33
from the afterword:
“Jewelle Gomez says that she modeled her first book of poems The Lipstick Papers after Lorde’s early publications, and was inspired by that vampire who appears on the very last page of From a Land Where Other People Live. Lorde asks whether the black community is ready for a black woman who defies limitations, and Gomez responds with Gilda, a black woman who moves across time and space, navigating different eras in black creative community. Gomez provides depth and flesh to the nightmares of narrow-minded people who police the definition of blackness, and steals back the power and threat of black feminine difference. In other words, if the definitions of blackness, femininity, and queerness are death in the eyes of the dominant culture, Gomez offers another way of being black, queer, and feminine by creating the undead.
Policy makers are afraid of the black woman who keeps her family alive without access to food, but here is Gilda, living on wine and dreams in the dark. Black nationalists are afraid of the black woman who can be a man when she needs to be, but here she is wearing britches and sprinting through the Midwest. The white feminist movement is afraid of a black woman in control of her sexuality, but here is a black woman who can run a brothel and kill a rapist with the same skills. Black women are afraid that expressing their power will leave them isolated and alone, but here is a black woman who wrestles for generations with the need for space and intimacy, interdependence and agency. Black artists are ready to produce a poetics that is more than a reaction to the oppressive narratives of the man, and here is Jewelle Gomez, a poet, relevant for generations.”
#also the writer (Jewelle Gomez) is a Black member of the Iowa and Wampanoag tribes!#shes an activist whos been advocating for gay rights since the early 80s and her wife also is an activist whos produced a lot of early prid#events in san francisco; is the executive director of The Lesbian Health & Research Center at UCSF; and develops programs to help educate#lesbian; bisexual; and trans women health!#<- just some bonus information on the writer since i learnt this and thought it was nice :3#but I'll easily place this book as my top read of the year and just general favorite books list. my queue is LOADED with quotes from it <33

#i was an ugly kid (I struggled with cystic acne since i was 7). the other kids would call me a witch.#i took a drug to get it under control (and i still get acne in my late 20s...)#one of the weirdest experiences when my skin got better was that people didn't recognize me (superman effect is real)#this girl who was my friend started talking mad shit about me (the ugly kid); not knowing it was ME (she didn't know me back then).#i didn't tell her because i felt like shit about it#i am considered pretty but my face is very scarred around the temples and forehead. my first boyfriend made me feel like shit about it#he freaked out. he also tried to coerce me but i didn't care enough for him.#i think it's why i like monsters so much. i felt like one in my early life. and it's whiplash that people want to like me now.#i used to be very insecure about my scars. but my brother told me i looked like the boy from little monsters (the 80s movie)#it's a monster hiding under a child's stretched skin#and i liked that. feeling like an actual monster made me own it and feel better about it. lmao#and i also started liking that i have a witchy face#this was brought to you by a poll that made me think of my experiences with pretty privilege and ugliness#vent

i literally cannot have a normal conversation with my mother.
i was complaining about having to come up with a costume for my hip hop class which recommended a red accessory and she said she had a red bandana
"no i don't want to do that, for a variety of reasons"
"well, it can be a gay thing."
"... mother, that was a gay SEX thing, i'm not wearing a bandana like that"
"gay sex thing?"
"yeah, the different colors mean... things i'm not talking to you about, figure it out on your own"
"is that why my gay roommate kept stealing all of my bandanas"
"i guess so??"
"well he's dead now. a lot of my friends died of AIDS"
"oh"
"yeah"
"..."
"gay sex though, really?"
"i'm not doing this"

i just think that their actual relationship where they care about each other and want each other to be safe and their conflict is based on the moral conflicts that arise from venom's definition of "justice" is so much more interesting than the "wow i hate my ex" relationship that some people seem to want them to have. people hate to see two people have an amicable divorce and still care about the person they used to be with. and still see the person they used to be with even beyond the way they've both changed. anyway
#yes i think there are issues with the way their relationship is portrayed mostly because of the whole. uh.#anne weying is a woman being written in the late 80s early 90s. and so she gets damsel in distressed.#however CONSIDERING all of that. she still gets to be pretty competent on her own#she's a lawyer! has short hair! stands up to the cops and advocates for her rights! socially she's super strong and independent!#and when eddie wants to save her in this issue and can't get there what he does is sends the symbiote through the phone#so that she can save herself. essentially. so that She goes out and rips people's heads off#which is upsetting for her! sorry about that annie!! but still. even if the shevenom design is Terrible. she gets to be venom#that origin recap comic from last night is still pissing me off </3#venomposting#venom#venom: along came a spider

My mom is going on a cruise w her bestie to a lot of European countries she's not seen yet (hasn't been to/lived in Europe or Africa since shortly before I was born). She asked me what gift I'd like and tbh I just really loooooove spices and flavors I dont have the opportunity to discover/try here, but like 🤔 not sure if customs would bar her from bringing spices home. Maybe a cool rock or smth instead as I seem to be collecting small stone animals when I travel lately
#Creepy chatter#trying to recall all the countries... It's a 16 day cruise and only 2 stops have 2 days spent there#2 days in Stockholm :D#My mom is the one that taught me how to cook so like lol our tastes are very similar. I trust her spice senses unquestionably.#She met my dad when they were living in Germany but she spent a little over 2 years living in Egypt in the late 80s early 90s.#After they came back to the states she never went back to other countries really so this will be very good for her I think :)#Always good to leave USA and get a reality check on what the international world is like. the US is so....lol....not real abt so much#Oh you know what I'd also be down for nice olive oil if spices don't pan out. 🤔 Not used to people going on trips lmao. Girl we were poor
