I saw a post of the sibling check of sector PHP , so ( if you have some info TwT ) I just want to know more about the siblings 👀 /nf
(It's been a while since I've been reminded of them and even then, I still don't have proper info about them but I do have a few ideas!)
Del Ray Brothers
Tumblr media
-Ezekiel is Tyler's older brother, A star pupil and is great in academics. But despite such an excellent endeavor isn't all that he seems, He's a real troublemaker too!
-He's not completely trouble though, It's more so that he likes to tease and be laid back often despite his presentation at school. He's a real big brother type to his friends and his family.
-Gregory, Tyler's little brother, is quite the cheerful kiddo! We can compare his demeanor to Evan's.
-Unlike his older brother, He's more of a follower than a leader but he's really good at being innovative and has a knack for tinkering and creating anything that comes to his mind!
Montgomery Sibling
Tumblr media
-Vivien is a real sweetheart, The one you can open up to and the type of kid who loves to take care of others!
-They're modest and overall kind to others, A great nurse in the field ever since their big brother started in inventing and he get injuries often.
-They look up to their big brother, both figuratively and literally. They even get shoulder rides from him when he gets home from the treehouse he shares with his friends. Which Vivien often looks forward to!
Martinez Siblings
Tumblr media
-Jamie is Evan's shy little brother. He's often very timid and reserved whenever he's in a new crowd of people he doesn't know, any large group really gets him antsy.
-If one can manage to get him out of his shell, He'll start showing his kind and motivating nature.
-He's really good at stealth! Mostly because he gets so quiet, it's hard to track him at times!
-Evan's older sister, Maya, isn't home a lot because she already moved out to start her days in med school!
-She lives in a more suburban town with her girlfriend but that doesn't mean she doesn't call and check up on her little brothers!
Mitski Brother
Tumblr media
-Malakai, Phoebe's little brother, is quite the fighter. All he talked about is how much he wanted to be like his big sister when he grows up to be much stronger!
-He's rugged and has a lot of spunk in him but he means well, He's really helpful when he isn't filling his rough personality.
-The best at combat, Sometimes he and his sister start little fights to teach each other to be strong!
Burnham Sister..
Tumblr media
-The little girl never made it past 5 years old, She had long passed alongside her mother in a car accident.
-Mella doesn't talk about her much because she already moved on a long time ago but even til now, she misses her little sister.
-From what we know, Eleanor loved her big sister, truly. She looked up to her and made a promise to be just as kind and caring as she was.
-Eleanor was a more bubbly and lively child, A spark contrast to her older sister's calm and cool nature.
-She was closest with Jamie when she was still around, They were besties.
-She loved pink, specifically baby pink. She had a doll handed down to her once by Mella, it was a cute little bunny.
-Eleanor would've loved to join the KND when she got older but sadly, that dream never came so her older sister lived out her dreams and wishes for her.

Asteroid Hekate in signs
Hecate, the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts, and necromancy, was the daughter of the Titans Perses and Asteria, inheriting dominion over heaven, earth, and sea. She played a pivotal role in guiding Demeter during her search for Persephone, using her flaming torches to illuminate the night, and later became Persephone’s minister in the Underworld.
The asteroid Hekate in a natal chart often reflects themes associated with the goddess of crossroads, highlighting key decision points and transitions in life. It may indicate heightened intuitive abilities, a connection to the spiritual realm, or a fascination with occult practices and rituals. This placement can also suggest an affinity for feminine wisdom, empowerment, and embracing inner strength, as well as a strong sense of justice and empathy for the marginalized. Additionally, the presence of Hekate’s asteroid might reveal an individual's aptitude for navigating life’s challenges, making crucial decisions, and embracing transformative life paths.
The asteroid Hekate gains notable significance in a natal chart when it closely conjoins (within 2-3 degrees) key points like the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, the Ascendant, the Midheaven (MC), or the ruler of the 1st house. Its influence is also heightened if Hekate is at 29 degrees, part of a stellium, or in close proximity to the lunar nodes (North Node or South Node). You can find it on astro.com, extended chart selection, type 100.
Asteroid Hekate in signs
With Hekate in Aries, your drive for bold action and innovation leads to transformative moments through daring choices and new ventures. This placement often draws you to unconventional or esoteric practices, pushing boundaries and challenging norms. You may seek guidance from leaders who have faced similar issues and rely heavily on your intuition, though you might be sensitive to negative energy, potentially experiencing migraines. Be aware of shadow aspects such as impulsiveness, a tendency to be overly aggressive, or a reluctance to consider the consequences of your actions. You might also struggle with impatience or a need for instant results.
With Hekate in Taurus, you combine a focus on stability and material security with transformative experiences, often gaining spiritual insights through your pursuit of comfort and financial stability. You may find clarity in nature and your interactions with plants, and should trust your senses while avoiding over analysis. However, be mindful of shadow aspects such as becoming overly materialistic, resistant to change, or complacent in your comfort zone. You might also struggle with stubbornness or difficulty adapting to new ideas. Sensitivity to throat issues and smells can be a signal to listen to your body and emotions. Embrace the pleasures of the senses while ensuring you remain open to growth and flexibility in your decision-making.
With Hekate in Gemini, your sharp, intuitive mind excels in communication and learning, guiding you through key decisions and sparking transformative insights into mystical subjects like magic, witchcraft, and astrology. Your skillful communication on these topics may attract both admiration and criticism. While you might seek guidance from siblings or relatives and feel a strong urge to explore esoteric arts, be mindful of shadow aspects such as becoming scattered, overly skeptical, or prone to gossip. You may also struggle with inconsistency or over-intellectualizing your spiritual insights. Pay attention to sensations like tingling in your hands when around negative energy and approach your quest for knowledge with both curiosity and discernment.
With Hekate in Cancer, emotional intuition and family connections are central to your spiritual path, with significant changes often linked to your home and loved ones. Your empathy and spiritual insight help you navigate emotional challenges, and your nurturing nature drives you to support others in need. Trusting your intuition and emotional guidance is key, but be aware of shadow aspects such as becoming overly dependent on others for validation or allowing emotional sensitivity to overwhelm your decision-making. You might also struggle with moodiness or difficulty letting go of past hurts. Pay attention to unexplained stomachaches or sensations around your heart, which may indicate unresolved emotional issues that need attention.
With Hekate in Leo, creativity and self-expression are central to your spiritual journey, guiding you through important decisions related to leadership and personal projects. Your intuitive abilities enhance your creative efforts and empower you to address issues of justice and support those in need. However, be mindful of shadow aspects such as becoming overly self-centered, egotistical, or seeking validation through external approval. You might also struggle with arrogance or an inability to accept constructive criticism. While it’s important to embrace your unique qualities and trust your instincts, ensure that your self-expression remains balanced and considerate of others.
With Hekate in Virgo, your mystical approach is practical and detail-oriented, leading to transformative experiences through service and organization. You may find empowerment in adhering to spiritual rituals and daily routines, using your intuitive insights to guide your work and health practices. However, be aware of shadow aspects such as becoming overly critical, perfectionistic, or excessively focused on minutiae at the expense of broader perspectives. You might also struggle with excessive self-judgment or the tendency to impose your standards on others. Balancing your meticulous nature with compassion and flexibility is key to effectively supporting others and addressing your own needs.
With Hekate in Libra, you prioritize balance and harmony in your spiritual and mystical practices, often facing key decisions in partnerships and collaborations. Your heightened sense of justice and empathy guide you to support others and address issues of fairness. While seeking advice from partners, close friends, or family is valuable, it’s important to trust your own instincts and judgments. However, be mindful of shadow aspects such as becoming overly reliant on others for validation, struggling with indecision, or avoiding conflict at the expense of your own needs. Ensuring that your pursuit of balance does not lead to self-neglect or the suppression of your authentic voice is crucial.
With Hekate in Scorpio, your mystical connection is profound and transformative, guiding you through significant crossroads related to power and deep change. Your psychic abilities and understanding of hidden truths help you navigate these transformations, and your commitment to justice drives you to address underlying issues. You prefer to seek answers on your own, often delving into deep, introspective journeys rather than relying on others. However, be mindful of shadow aspects such as becoming overly secretive, intense, or fixated on hidden motives. While solitary exploration is valuable, avoiding external feedback may limit your perspective. Embrace the process of exploring your inner depths while remaining open to outside insights.
With Hekate in Sagittarius, you’re drawn to exploration and philosophical inquiry in your spiritual journey. Transformative experiences often arise through travel and higher learning, leading you to uncover broader spiritual truths. Your intuitive insights guide you toward global and humanitarian causes, and you may seek advice from spiritual leaders, teachers, or professors, placing great trust in those with higher knowledge. Your path may be illuminated through religion, philosophy, and exposure to different cultures. However, be mindful of shadow aspects such as becoming overly idealistic, dogmatic, or dismissive of practical details.
With Hekate in Capricorn, your spiritual journey is marked by structure and discipline, often leading to transformative moments in your career or public life. Your practical approach to mystical practices and strong sense of responsibility enables you to navigate challenges and support marginalized communities through organized efforts. You’re likely to seek guidance from a father figure or someone with similar qualities and may, in turn, become a mentor or fatherly figure to others. Your direction in life is found through hard work and dedication, but be mindful of potential shadow aspects, such as becoming overly rigid or critical. Embrace your maturity and wisdom to guide both yourself and others effectively.
With Hekate in Aquarius, your spirituality is driven by innovation and unconventional ideas. You may face important decisions involving technology and humanitarian efforts, and your intuitive insights can lead to breakthroughs in progressive causes. You likely rely on a carefully chosen inner circle for advice and offer compassionate, objective guidance in return. Trusting your intuition is key, as you use it to provide visionary and altruistic support to others. However, be cautious of potential shadow aspects, such as being overly detached or idealistic. Embrace your unique approach to guide yourself and others toward a clearer, more meaningful path.
With Hekate in Pisces, your spiritual connection is deep and intuitive, often manifesting through dreams, artistic expression, or spiritual practices. You may experience transformative moments and feel a strong empathy and sense of justice, guiding you to support marginalized individuals. Your psychic abilities are likely heightened, and you might turn to astrology, tarot, or other spiritual tools for advice. Be cautious of getting lost in “what if” scenarios; instead, trust your intuition and maintain a grounding practice, such as therapy. Ultimately, your direction in life involves being compassionate and using your unconscious gifts to navigate a higher path, while avoiding the pitfalls of escapism and confusion.

01 - Taylor Swift
No one in the music industry wielded more power over the past year than Taylor Swift, who made history at stadiums, movie theaters and on the Billboard charts, leaving even the most seasoned executives speechless. While they’d long celebrated her staggering popularity as a singer, songwriter and performer, her force as a strategic business leader suddenly came into sharper focus — and industry veterans took notes as they watched some of her bravest and most innovative business risks reap remarkable rewards.
At 34, she is one of the music industry’s most charismatic and influential leaders — and she rewrites the rules.
“The piece of advice I would give to the other executives on this list is that the best ideas are usually ones without industry precedent,” Swift tells Billboard. “The biggest crossroads moments of my career came down to sticking to my instincts when my ideas were looked at with skepticism. When someone says to me, ‘But that has never been done successfully before,’ it fires me up. We have to take strategic risks every day in this industry, but every once in a while, you have to really trust your gut and take a flying leap. My rerecordings are my favorite example of this, and I’m extremely grateful to my team and fans for taking that leap with me because it absolutely changed my life.”
Sage advice for an industry in which instinct has largely been supplanted by metrics and data analysis.
In December, Time named Swift its 2023 Person of the Year. In September, after encouraging her 279 million Instagram followers to vote and linking to vote.org, the nonpartisan nonprofit said it received over 35,000 registrations. She appears on the cover of this issue of Billboard and in the No. 1 spot of our annual Power 100 issue because her force across the business of music is now unparalleled — and because she models commitment to innovation that the rest of the business will need in order to tackle the big challenges ahead.
Swift’s gambles have paid off handsomely over the past year.
Her massive The Eras stadium tour, which began in March after she controversially put all the tickets on sale at once, crashing Ticketmaster and sparking mass hysteria, grossed an estimated $906.1 million in 2023 and is poised to become the highest-grossing global tour of all time before it wraps in December, according to Billboard.
The Golden Globe-nominated Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film, taped during her six-show run at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., in August, has grossed over $261.6 million worldwide since its October opening, according to AMC Theatres Entertainment. In January, the publicly traded movie-house chain announced that the film’s box-office take made it the highest-grossing concert/documentary picture ever released, surpassing Michael Jackson’s 2009 This Is It. Once again blazing a new path, Swift made a groundbreaking distribution deal directly with AMC Theaters instead of linking with a film studio.
Swift has shaken up the catalog market, too. When Scooter Braun infuriated her by acquiring the master recordings of her first six albums through his Ithaca Holdings and then sold them to investment firm Shamrock Capital at a profit, Swift rerecorded the albums with loving precision and added bonus tracks to the new releases. They performed phenomenally well, as she deftly used her tour to promote them. When her latest rerecording (and 14th studio album overall), 1989 (Taylor’s Version), spent its fifth week at atop the Billboard 200 at the end of 2023, Swift beat Elvis Presley’s record for the most weeks at No. 1 by a solo artist. Her industry market share last year was 1.72%. If she were her own genre, she’d rank ninth for 2023 — bigger than jazz.
“She’s the smartest artist I’ve ever worked with,” says Messina Touring Group’s Louis Messina, who promotes Swift’s tours and has worked with her since 2005. “She outworks everybody and she has always had this vision. If you’re around her, you can’t help but believe in her.” —Melinda Newman

Hello! Saw matchups were open, thought I might send in one for Arcane (and if youre ok with writing more than one, could I get a matchup for Across the Spiderverse as well? Doesnt have to be long)
I'm Umi, a pansexual introvert who goes by she/her. I like reading (usually fantasy/horror or high school stuff like Solitaire), listening to music, playing RPG video games, watching movies, baking and animating (though I am a beginner). I dislike loud noises, confrontation, germs and being a leader.
Personality-wise I'm fairly reclusive, forgetful, socially awkward, calm, chaotic, creative and air-headed. Been told that I have a "dead face". I usually base my worth off my academic accomplishments and I'm kind of a people pleaser. Though I do have a breaking point once pushed far enough.
I have a male preference when it comes to romantic interests, but I don't mind being paired with women.
Thank you in advance, I adore your writing :)
Your male Arcane match is…

1/ I have come up with a strange theory, I hope you'll listen to it, which is that the real mastermind behind the aurora Society is not Ryan Stocker nor the Undertaker, but Viscount Druitt (and other character I think one of them is John brown) , because he is the only person who has great influence among the nobles and seems accustomed to organizing this type of event (such as the human traffic pary that he held in his manor in Jack the Ripper arc )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is the Viscount of Druitt the mastermind of the Aurora Society?
I highly doubt it. I have to assume the leader used to be Stoker, and perhaps Druitt is a high-ranking member, but he has never struck me as mastermind material. I honestly don't know whether the society is run by real Ciel and Undertaker now or if it's still a separate entity. But Druitt doesn't seem to think too clearly about what he's getting himself into, so I see him as more like a very important chessman for real Ciel.
That said, I do suspect he's got something to do with the advanced technology that's being used for the blood transfusions and what appears to be hemodialysis. He does have a medical license, after all, even though he has no practice. Undertaker might be keeping him alive just to use him for his medical knowledge.
But I wouldn't say he's the only person involved with Sphere Music Hall or the Aurora Society with an interest in Grecian attire. (In fact, the reference Druitt makes is to the infamous Roman emperor, Nero, not a Greek ruler.)
Tumblr media
There are two other people to look at here: Blavat Sky and Nina Hopkins.
Tumblr media
Nina even praises Blavat for his "innovative and daring" suggestions about clothes...
Tumblr media
...and she says how her favorite pieces are the Grecian robes.
Tumblr media
Druitt's desire to rule society in some new era is manga canon, as he talks about it while on the Campania.
Tumblr media
I will admit that he seems committed to the idea of incorporating the Aurora Society into his vision of rule.
Tumblr media
Even the Akuma6 side chapter shows him as someone who will go to great lengths for power. In that scenario he basically wants all the "main character energy". But I still don't think he's ever actually controlled the Aurora Society.
Stoker had higher ideals, but his ambitions made him highly susceptible to the promises he thought Undertaker was making. Similarly, Druitt's cravings for power and a lavish lifestyle make him an easy target for Undertaker.
I don't see the Aurora Society as too much of a direct threat to the queen. More like both the Aurora Society and the queen (and her servants, like John Brown) are serious threats to our earl.
And John Brown is possibly the shadiest of all, mostly because I don't believe he's human. Not a reaper, either. More like an angel or demon. Whatever he is, he appears to have a contract with the queen. I believe the hand puppet of Prince Albert is part of the contract... and that he's ultimately controlling her. Whenever the puppet shows up, her entire mood changes and she becomes more open to John Brown's suggestions... presented to her through the puppet. It's like she really does think her husband has returned to her from the grave every time she sees the puppet. I'm almost surprised our earl hasn't noticed how similar that situation looks to the sort of offer Sebastian made when they were forming their own contract. Our earl saw through the deceitful offer to make him happy in the false belief his brother had returned from the dead. Can you imagine what the series would be like if, whenever our earl needed guidance or comforting, Sebastian whipped out a puppet that looked like a mirror image of his young master?
Anyway, I expect our earl and Sebastian to have a major confrontation with the queen and her servants. And, of course, for our earl and Sebastian to have some final confrontation with Undertaker, real Ciel, and whichever other star lords that can still assist by then. I expect reapers to make appearances at one or both of those fights....
Druitt? He might finally be killed during all this... but perhaps he survives... yet again.

Imagine a whole other continent on the other side of Prythian, not a human one, a Fae one. High fae and faeries that one could find in —let's say— what in real life would be Latin America, a whole continent of Fae with rich latin american cultural heritage. What would they look like? What would the continental name be? Are they fierce/ warm/ welcoming/ distrustful/ loyal? What would their abilities/ power look like? Would they depend on the region, like with the courts or would it be more free/subjective? I wonder...🤔
ooooh I really like the idea, it sounds very interesting❤️
I will try to write a little headcanon here, but @moonlightazriel is writing an Azriel x Reader story about the Court of Shadows. So this is a whole new territory and she addresses most of those things, like new people, a new culture etc. The new people mentioned are not only fae, but also witches etc. and have new/different powers. It is a very interesting and new take and a very unique Azriel story as I have never seen anything like that. You should totally check it out if you are interested in that sort of things.
Son of the Darkness🖤
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
but what do I think concerning a whole new court/continent?
I have to admit my knowledge about the cultural heritage of Latin America is very limited I only know about the Maya, the Aztecs and the Inca (but also not too much)
I don't want to say anything wrong, that maybe could offend anyone so I will keep my answer very short
so I could imagine these grand temples, different letters, different laws and many wonderful pieces of art and culture
family matters a lot for these fae and so do common festivities and celebrations
in terms of what they look like, I don't really know how detailed you meant that, but maybe they would resemble the Illyrians a lot, tanned skin and dark hair
also I could imagine them wearing a lot of golden accessory (I think that was a thing of the Aztecs, wasn't it?)
I think they would at first be a little reserved when being discovered, but soon very welcoming and open to the people arriving, like including the new people in their festivities and celebrations, letting them join in, teaching them something about their culture and heritage as well as their letters etc.
I think their power would be strength, knowledge, power and craftman ship like they build those amazing temples and are very innovative, but also are very skilled and talented fighters and warriors, and they have huge libraries filled with millions of books and scrolls and documents
and I think it would be more free, there would be no courts, there would only be one territory an that is ruled by one leader who has. afew in-commands
I really hope this is what you imagined❤️
What We Want Our Future Leaders To Know
What will make a future leader successful? I explored this in my piece, *Portrait of a Future Leader, published as part of Upwork’s Work: Reimagined series on Medium. Really getting down to the nitty-gritty of how major workforce trends will affect leaders was exciting. But I don’t know everything.
I would love for you to weigh in— what’s one quality a future leader absolutely must have?
It turns out we have some of the same ideas. Here are five qualities that I believe are imperative for future leaders, and the valuable perspectives of my peers.
1. High Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
What does a leader with a high EQ look like? They’re curious about people they don’t know, aware of their strengths and weaknesses, skilled in active listening, and aware of their own emotional states, enabling them to respond rather than react.
The qualities that indicate a high EQ are also valued by my peers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I appreciate Susan bringing up compassion, a quality that in the past may have been viewed as a weakness in leaders. A teenager recently asked me how to improve his EQ. I told him to practice kindness and compassion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You may be asking, isn’t a high EQ important for our current leaders? Yes, it is very important. But in the future, organizations will not be as centralized, and hierarchy will diminish in importance. Leaders will be constantly creating and dismantling teams to complete projects, which requires a strong understanding of building and maintaining relationships.
Another important part of relationship building and maintenance is being a proponent of a purpose-driven strategy and culture.
2. Proponent of a Purpose-Driven Strategy and Culture
The purpose at work is a major driver for the future of work. Leaders will measure success on more than profit and loss.
Last year, Aaron Hurst, author of The Purpose Economy, wrote in The Guardian that we’re “experiencing the rise of the fourth economy in our history, in which a sense of purpose is recognized as a critical human need and driver of innovation.”
He explained that this critical human need was sacrificed in the industrial and technological economies in order to maximize efficiency and scale.
So how does a future leader create a purpose-driven strategy and culture? It starts with valuing more than just profit. He or she must also prioritize the personal development of employees, along with the sense of purpose that each employee embodies, all while continuing to focus on tangible deliverables like targeted goals and bottom-line commitments.
Personal development is also a key to being a successful future leader. The desire to learn is a must.
3. Lifelong Learning
We’ve all witnessed how quickly technology has changed the fabric of our world. The increasing global pace of growth only adds to that rapid-fire change. In order to keep pace, a leader must be constantly learning. Whether this happens in the form of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) or peer-to-peer information exchange is irrelevant. What matters is that the leader of the future wants to learn on a continual basis and prioritizes this need for education.
Tumblr media
I agree with Kathleen. Yet many leaders say they don’t have time to learn new skills. So how can organizations instill a sense of constant learning in the cultural DNA? This is an important question to answer as we move into the future of work.
Tumblr media
Learning goes beyond mastering the latest technology trends. The demographic makeup of the future workforce is going to be different, requiring leaders to learn to be more culturally aware and able to eliminate bias and discrimination.
4. Diverse to the Core
Future leaders are not straight, white, and male by default. So say goodbye to ‘pale, male, and stale’ and hello to diversity.
Today, only 3.8% of the CEOs at Fortune 500 companies are minorities. This, is despite minorities making up a full 36% of the American workforce. In the future, what we consider minorities will be the majority of consumers, clients, employees, and leaders. This requires that the leaders of the future understand their diverse employees and consumers.
5. Entrepreneurial Mindset
Our new workforce will function as more of an ecosystem than a pyramid, so leaders of the future need to have an entrepreneurial mindset; they need to be agile and innovative. Their ability to pivot, pull teams together quickly, and exhibit out-of-the-box thinking will influence their success in a decentralized structure that is constantly evolving.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jennifer and Paul make a good point. Part of being entrepreneurial is pulling together people who will fill the gaps in your abilities, inspire you, and take you to the next level. There is no room for feeling threatened in the future of work. Entrepreneurs need to be too good to ignore.
Tumblr media
Outside of the five qualities I believe exemplify our future leaders, Mike brings a valid quality to the table.
Tumblr media
Leaders of the future will be facing an exciting and ever-evolving workplace and economic landscape. If they do not believe in themselves, they will become daunted by all of the change happening around them. A leader needs to create a vision that people believe in and want to contribute to. That takes confidence.
There’s a tsunami of change ahead but the changes will deeply enrich the culture of organizations. With a high EQ, purpose-driven motivation, a love of learning, a deep interest in diversity, and an entrepreneurial mindset, the leaders of the future will surely thrive.
Now it’s your turn.  What’s one quality a future leader absolutely must have? I can’t wait to continue the discussion.
A Matter Of Degrees Podcast: Is Climate Change Dead in TrumpWorld?
Tumblr media
The co-hosts of this excellent podcast -- A Matter Of Degrees -- are not simply climate advocates, they're scientists. So they're not tree huggers, but highly skilled women of science who can take on any climate denier who produces a snowball to prove the earth is not warming to dangerous levels.
In the U.S., only nine percent of people actively dismiss the reality of climate change, and that has more to do with identity and politics than science.
"We’re focused not just on how people think, but also on how they feel, "says the podcast co-hosts, Dr. Leah Stokes and Dr. Katharine Wilkinson. "To take meaningful action on climate change, we need to reckon with our emotions – guilt, fear, anger, whatever they may be. We think it’s most important to work for policy and political progress. Let’s focus on collectively achieving structural change."
Season four has just begun, and the co-hosts tackle the current climate issues surrounding the election and its aftermath.
Episode one of season four was about Project 2025, which has been all over the news lately. But what exactly is this conservative playbook for the Federal government? And what does it mean for climate policy?
This episode dives into the Heritage Foundation's plan for the next conservative presidential administration. The co-hosts lay out what Project 2025 would mean for the climate movement and how it threatens to unwind all the progress we’ve made. This 900+ page document covers a lot of ground and, as they found out, the devil is in the details. In the episode, the co-hosts walk through the policies that define Project 2025’s vision for a Federal government that’s fundamentally anti-government, anti-science, and anti-equity and justice. We also take a hard look at just exactly how we got here: who wrote Project 2025, who benefits from it, and what we can learn from it.
The co-hosts set up a scenario reminiscent of Orwell's 1984, when, at the book's opening, the protagonist Winston Smith says, "It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen."
In the second episode, the co-hosts craft a climate success story.
On this episode of A Matter of Degrees, we tell the story of how a powerful grassroots movement, ambitious lawmakers, and Governor Tim Walz turned Minnesota into a climate leader. Then, we talk about using the Minnesota blueprint to make change everywhere else.
States also play a huge role in our path to healing the planet. Beyond just cutting pollution within their borders, states implement our big federal climate laws, test new innovative policy ideas, and build momentum for nationwide progress. And the center of gravity for state-level climate action isn’t California, or Washington, or Massachusetts. It’s Minnesota. Over the past few years, Minnesota has done more on climate than perhaps any other state, anchored by a nation-leading clean electricity standard that requires 100% carbon-free power by 2040.
To tell Minnesota’s success story, the co-hosts spoke to Aimee Witteman, the Vice President of Investment and Network at Rewiring America, Chris Conry, the Managing Director of 100 Percent MN, and Rep. Jamie Long, the Majority Leader of the Minnesota State House of Representatives.
Who are the co-hosts of A Matter Of Degrees?   Dr. Leah Stokes is a specialist in energy and climate policy, and the author of the award-winning book Short Circuiting Policy, which examines the role of utilities in undermining regulation and promoting climate denial. Trained at M.I.T., Columbia, and the University of Toronto, Leah has published in top scholarly journals and popular media outlets. Named a 2020 Grist 50 Fixer, she regularly provides advice to policymakers at the federal and state levels and has given testimony on clean energy and electrification to the U.S. Congress, as well as states and cities. At the University of California, Santa Barbara, Leah is the Anton Vonk Associate Professor of Environmental Politics. She’s also a senior policy consultant at the advocacy groups Evergreen Action and Rewiring America. Dr. Katharine Wilkinson is an author, strategist, teacher, and one of 15 “women who will save the world,” according to Time magazine. She is co-founder and executive director of The All We Can Save Project, which works to grow climate leadership, and creator of All We Can Save Circles and Climate Wayfinding. Her books on climate include the bestselling anthology All We Can Save, The Drawdown Review, the New York Times bestseller Drawdown, and Between God & Green. Stokes and Wilkinson have just started their third season of A Matter Of Degrees. Check out some of their previous episodes such as season two, episode eight The ‘Win-Win-Win’ Strategy To Retire Coal, and season two, episode four 'Green Jobs...For All?' In a previous interview, Dr. Stokes and Dr. Wilkinson told me, "These are both future and present concerns. The climate crisis is here, and we can prevent it from getting a lot worse. The goal is to recognize where pieces of a clean, livable future exist in the present and fight as hard as we can to let them flourish and grow. This is the work of our lifetimes."
Dr. Stokes and Dr. Wilkinson are not wonky science types who speak in code like they're giving a lecture. Instead, these two academics speak from the heart and target their message toward the "climate curious." Their goal is not to convince those nine percent of climate deniers.
As podcast co-hosts, they're tremendously skilled with a balance and rhythm to their voices and a knack for interviewing guests. Further, their podcast runtime is reasonable, the show itself is carefully produced, the sound clean and crisp, and the tone informative and supportive instead of deprecating and dismissive. I believe it's a positive sign that climate change podcasts have proliferated in the last few years. That means people are taking climate change seriously and want more information.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said that, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Dr. Leah Stokes and Dr. Katharine Wilkinson dream of a future when we can be environmentally responsible and responsive and make the only world we have habitable and hospitable for generations in the future.
Check out A Matter Of Degrees. Listen before it gets too hot!
Challenge Your Thinking Habits: Unlock a New Perspective on Life
Have you ever found yourself stuck in a cycle of familiar thoughts, reacting the same way to the same situations? You’re not alone. Most of us are guided by habitual thinking patterns, often unaware of how they shape our decisions, relationships, and personal development. But what if challenging these habits could open the door to creativity, problem-solving, and a more fulfilling life?
Let’s break this cycle. In this blog, we’ll explore why it’s important to rethink your thinking, how to do it, and what it can open up for you.
Why do we stick to old thinking habits?
Our brains love efficiency. Repetition creates mental shortcuts that save energy, making tasks easier over time. These shortcuts, or cognitive biases, help us navigate life but can also trap us in narrow perspectives. For example:
Confirmation bias: Seeking out information that aligns with your existing beliefs.
Negativity bias: Focusing on threats while ignoring opportunities.
Anchoring bias: Relying excessively on the first information you hear.
While these patterns simplify decision-making, they can also limit innovation and self-awareness.The power of challenging your thinking habits.Breaking free of habitual thinking is not about rejecting your thoughts but about expanding your mental toolkit. Challenging these patterns can help you:
Boost creativity: Open yourself up to new ideas and perspectives.
Enhance problem-solving: Think beyond obvious solutions.
Strengthen relationships: Understand perspectives different from your own.
A Harvard Business Review study found that individuals who actively challenge their thinking report higher levels of adaptability and satisfaction in their careers.
How to challenge your thinking habits
Practice curiosity over judgment
Instead of dismissing contrary ideas, ask yourself:
What can I learn from this?
Why might this viewpoint exist?
Example: Sarah, a team leader, noticed she dismissed younger coworkers’ suggestions as impractical. She decided to ask why their ideas mattered to them, which led to innovations that improved the team’s efficiency.
Actionable suggestion: Start conversations with “Tell me more about that” to invite deeper insights.
Adopt a beginner’s mindset Think like a beginner, even in areas where you’re an expert. This mindset helps dispel assumptions and reveal new possibilities.
Case study: Elon Musk famously approaches problems by questioning them from first principles—breaking the problem down to its most basic truth and building solutions from there.
Actionable suggestion: The next time you tackle a problem, ask:
What do I know to be true?
What assumptions am I making?
Engage in thought experiments Create hypothetical scenarios to push the boundaries of your thinking.
Example: Imagine a world where your biggest limitation didn’t exist. How would you do things differently? This exercise can reveal hidden opportunities.
Actionable suggestion: Write down a problem you’re facing and brainstorm five great solutions. Don’t worry about feasibility—just let your creativity flow.
Expand your circle of influence Surround yourself with people who challenge your assumptions. Exposure to diverse perspectives promotes open-mindedness and critical thinking.
Example: Steve Jobs credited much of Apple’s innovation to diverse teams that brought forth opposing views.
Actionable suggestion: Join a group or community outside of your comfort zone—whether it’s a book club, a cultural exchange group, or a professional network.
Breaking the mental framework: Real-life inspiration Consider Malala Yousafzai. Despite being told she couldn’t advocate for girls’ education in a restrictive environment, she challenged social norms and her own fears. Today, her activism has reshaped the lives of millions and redefined what’s possible for young women around the world.
What about you? What limiting belief can you challenge today?
Conclusion: Ready to rewrite your mental script?
Changing your thinking habits isn’t easy—it’s an ongoing practice. But every small step you take toward self-awareness and openness can lead to significant personal and professional change.
Here’s your challenge: Start by identifying one habitual thought or bias you want to challenge this week. Journal about it, discuss it with a friend, or reflect on how it affects your life.
What one thinking habit will you challenge today? Share your journey in the comments below!
Let’s inspire each other to think bigger, better, and bolder.
Artist and designer Es Devlin awarded Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts at MIT
New Post has been published on https://sunalei.org/news/artist-and-designer-es-devlin-awarded-eugene-mcdermott-award-in-the-arts-at-mit/
Artist and designer Es Devlin awarded Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts at MIT
Artist and designer Es Devlin is the recipient of the 2025 Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts at MIT. The $100,000 prize, to be awarded at a gala in her honor, also includes an artist residency at MIT in spring 2025, during which Es Devlin will present her work in a lecture open to the public on May 1, 2025.
Devlin’s work explores biodiversity, linguistic diversity, and collective AI-generated poetry, all areas that also are being explored within the MIT community. She is known for public art and installations at major museums such as the Tate Modern, kinetic stage designs for the Metropolitan Opera, the Super Bowl, and the Olympics, as well as monumental stage sculptures for large-scale stadium concerts.
“I am always most energized by works I have not yet made, so I am immensely grateful to have this trust and investment in ideas I’ve yet to conceive,” says Devlin. “I’m honored to receive an award that has been granted to so many of my heroes, and look forward to collaborating closely with the brilliant minds at MIT.”
2025 McDermott Announcement Video: Arts at MIT
“We look forward to presenting Es Devlin with MIT’s highest award in the arts. Her work will be an inspiration for our students studying the visual arts, theater, media, and design. Her interest in AI and the arts dovetails with a major initiative at MIT to address the societal impact of GenAI [generative artificial intelligence],” says MIT vice provost and Ford International Professor of History Philip S. Khoury. “With a new performing arts center opening this winter and a campus-wide arts festival taking place this spring, there could not be a better moment to expose MIT’s creative community to Es Devlin’s extraordinary artistic practice.”
The Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts at MIT recognizes innovative artists working in any field or cross-disciplinary activity. The $100,000 prize represents an investment in the recipient’s future creative work, rather than a prize for a particular project or lifetime of achievement. The official announcement was made at the Council for the Arts at MIT’s 51st annual meeting on Oct. 24. Since it was established in 1974, the award has been bestowed upon 38 individuals who work in performing, visual, and media arts, as well as authors, art historians, and patrons of the arts. Past recipients include Santiago Calatrava, Gustavo Dudamel, Olafur Eliasson, Robert Lepage, Audra McDonald, Suzan-Lori Parks, Bill Viola, and Pamela Z, among others.
A distinctive feature of the award is a short residency at MIT, which includes a public presentation of the artist’s work, substantial interaction with students and faculty, and a gala that convenes national and international leaders in the arts. The goal of the residency is to provide the recipient with unparalleled access to the creative energy and cutting-edge research at the Institute and to develop mutually enlightening relationships in the MIT community.
The Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts at MIT was established in 1974 by Margaret McDermott (1912-2018) in honor of her husband, Eugene McDermott (1899-1973), a co-founder of Texas Instruments and longtime friend and benefactor of MIT. The award is presented by the Council for the Arts at MIT.
The award is bestowed upon individuals whose artistic trajectory and body of work have achieved the highest distinction in their field and indicate they will remain leaders for years to come. Es Devlin, born in London in 1971, views an audience as a temporary society and often invites public participation in communal choral works. Her canvas ranges from public sculptures and installations at Tate Modern, V&A, Serpentine, Imperial War Museum, and Lincoln Center, to kinetic stage designs at the Royal Opera House, the National Theatre, and the Metropolitan Opera, as well as Olympic ceremonies, Super Bowl halftime shows, and monumental illuminated stage sculptures for large-scale stadium concerts.
Devlin is the subject of a major monographic book, “An Atlas of Es Devlin,” described by Thames and Hudson as their most intricate and sculptural publication to date, and a retrospective exhibition at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York. In 2020, she became the first female architect of the U.K. Pavilion at a World Expo, conceiving a building which used AI to co-author poetry with visitors on its 20-meter diameter facade. Her practice was the subject of the 2015 Netflix documentary series “Abstract: The Art of Design.” She is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, University of the Arts London, and a Royal Designer for Industry at the Royal Society of Arts. She has been awarded the London Design Medal, three Olivier Awards, a Tony Award, an Ivor Novello Award, doctorates from the Universities of Bristol and Kent, and a Commander of the Order of the British Empire award.
