Azriel's alarm bells are ringing when he hears silent curses and groaning from the bathroom

he carefully knocks and is immediately snap at "Please, let me come in, Everly. Tell me what is going on."

something is tossed onto the ground and then an annoyed yes follows

so Azriel enters and his eyes widen

Everly is sitting on the bathroom counter, a comb in her damp hair

a brush is lying on the floor while many hair care products are scattered over the ground and counter

Azriel raises a brow, is form of silent questioning

Everly huffs loudly and forces the comb through her terribly knotted hair "I can't make this work. I look like an idiot."

Azriel clicks his tongue and closes the door behind him

he walks up to the counter and braces his hands on it "Never ever say something like that again, Evie." "But I do, dad. Look at me." "I am looking at you and all I see is an amazing young lady and definitely not an idiot."

rolling her eyes Everly huffs again "they are so knotted and look silly when they dry. Why can't. I have straight or curly hair. Why do they have to be like that."

Everly throws her hands up in despair and Azriel's feels. a crack appear in his heart

Azriel places his scarred hand on his daughter's small shoulder, squeezing softly "You hair is beautiful." "Is not. "

and then Azriel makes a decision, he regrets a small moment later "Let me try to do a hair style on you. I am pretty sure you will love your hair then?"

not it is Everly who raises her brow, flashing her father an incredulous look through the mirror

Azriel partly understands that and has to chuckle at how much at only six years old she reminds you when she looks like that

but Everly agrees and Azriel does not really know what he does but suddenly memories flash in his mind of how he used to do hair styles on Rhysand's sister when they were younger

a twinge of sadness passes through him but he quickly shuts the memories down and parts Everly's hair

he softly works the comb through it, sectioning them and decides to braid the upper part while letting the lower part flow naturally

they will dry in the mean time, he thinks

a slightly doubtful expression graces Everly's face but she belives in her father who mumbles words of comfort "Trust the process, Evie."

the result is not perfect, but it is beautiful

so beautiful little Everly has tears in her eyes

she spins on the counter and hugs Az, who chest swells with love

gods, seeing his daughter smile and happy is still the best thing in the entire world "I am so happy you like it." "I love it!"

I have so many fics I've written and lines I love, so I'm gonna give you two:

A small excerpt from "Take These Broken Wings", chapter 4: "All Your Life"

He rested his cheek atop Cassian’s blood-soaked curls and began to sing. A song to center himself, to comfort Nesta, and to keep Cassian tethered to this world just a bit longer… they only had to make it a bit longer. Time passed slowly, as molasses moved in the frigid cold, and Azriel matched the cadence of his lullaby to the ever-slowing pumping of Cassian’s weary heart. 

And a single line spoken by the Lady of Autumn in "Welcome to the Family":

“You might even enjoy it. I know I did, but Beron didn’t have quite so many brothers.”

👻 What is your wildest headcanon?

This was a very popular request, so I'm going to give a different headcanon for each post. I'm not sure any of them are wild, but I don't think they're common.

I headcanon that Beron's parents were even worse than he is, and compared to them his actions are tame. He truly believes he's doing the right thing to save himself and his family, which makes him all the more dangerous. I think he also may have been gotten worse after discovering the Lady of Autumn's betrayal, but he doesn't acknowledge that fact publicly to save his family's public image.

Imagining Gwyn and Azriel going public with their relationship by mistake:

They kept it private at first because they wanted time to get to know themselves as a couple. Have a first argument. Sleep together. The essentials of being in a relationship.

But eventually they just fell into a rhythm and simply forgot about announcing it.

So when Azriel is gone on a mission for longer than either of them anticipate and he returns to the House of Wind during the middle of a training session with Rhys, Feyre, Cassian, Nesta, Emerie, Morrigan, and Gwyn, his eyes immediately seek her out.

She’s by the water station and when her eyes meet his a broad, infectious smile breaks out on her lips.

And they’re both making long, hasty strides across the ring to meet each other halfway.

Azriel doesn’t realize he intends to kiss her until they’re nearly face to face — doesn’t remember their entire family is present and watching Azriel prioritize reuniting with the priestess he’s become such “good friends with” over his brothers.

Azriel slows his pace, but Gwyn does not. It’s her who closes the distance and without pause flings her arms around his neck and crushes her lips to his.

All hesitation leaves him and his own arms wind around her waist, lifting her off the ground.

Gwyn moans softly against his mouth, and something in Azriel chest rumbles.

He feels her teeth against his lips as she smiles and when he opens his eyes, Gwyn is beaming at him.

“Welcome home, Shadowsinger.”

Chuckling, Azriel brushes his nose against her. “Thank you, beautiful.”

Slowly he sets her back down, arms still looped around her waist. “You missed me then?”

Gwyn shrugs. “A bit.”

After holding each other’s stare for another moment, it seems to dawn upon Gwyn that they just revealed their hand. Azriel’s hold on her tightens comfortingly and they look at their family who have frozen in their training to gawk at them.

Cassian is snickering and Rhysand’s brows are nearly in his hairline. Feyre has a hand over her mouth, though her eyes dance. Nesta and Emerie are whispering between each other and Azriel’s shadows pick up on the Illyrian female saying “I fucking knew it.” Morrigan just watches with a warm smile.

Rhys grins, resuming his fighting stance before his mate. “About time.”

Everyone resumes their training with knowing smiles and soft whispers but when Gwyn starts to head for the water station, Azriel snatches her wrist.

He tugs her to him, mouth brushing the shell of her ear. “You’re coming with me, priestess.”

Gwyn giggles and the two of them set off for his chambers — not minding the quiet chuckles of his family behind him.

Imagine a whole other continent on the other side of Prythian, not a human one, a Fae one. High fae and faeries that one could find in —let's say— what in real life would be Latin America, a whole continent of Fae with rich latin american cultural heritage. What would they look like? What would the continental name be? Are they fierce/ warm/ welcoming/ distrustful/ loyal? What would their abilities/ power look like? Would they depend on the region, like with the courts or would it be more free/subjective? I wonder...🤔

I will try to write a little headcanon here, but @moonlightazriel is writing an Azriel x Reader story about the Court of Shadows. So this is a whole new territory and she addresses most of those things, like new people, a new culture etc. The new people mentioned are not only fae, but also witches etc. and have new/different powers. It is a very interesting and new take and a very unique Azriel story as I have never seen anything like that. You should totally check it out if you are interested in that sort of things.

but what do I think concerning a whole new court/continent?

I have to admit my knowledge about the cultural heritage of Latin America is very limited I only know about the Maya, the Aztecs and the Inca (but also not too much)

I don't want to say anything wrong, that maybe could offend anyone so I will keep my answer very short

so I could imagine these grand temples, different letters, different laws and many wonderful pieces of art and culture

family matters a lot for these fae and so do common festivities and celebrations

in terms of what they look like, I don't really know how detailed you meant that, but maybe they would resemble the Illyrians a lot, tanned skin and dark hair

also I could imagine them wearing a lot of golden accessory (I think that was a thing of the Aztecs, wasn't it?)

I think they would at first be a little reserved when being discovered, but soon very welcoming and open to the people arriving, like including the new people in their festivities and celebrations, letting them join in, teaching them something about their culture and heritage as well as their letters etc.

I think their power would be strength, knowledge, power and craftman ship like they build those amazing temples and are very innovative, but also are very skilled and talented fighters and warriors, and they have huge libraries filled with millions of books and scrolls and documents

and I think it would be more free, there would be no courts, there would only be one territory an that is ruled by one leader who has. afew in-commands

Unpopular opinion (I think): I don’t think that Azriel will panic about being a good father.

I think that since his brothers likely had children before him he knows he’s very good at giving advice and he has a way with children.

Additionally, I think he realized he may have doubts in his parenting long before him and Gwyn became pregnant, so he’s been doing a lot of research to make sure any time he has doubts he can remind himself: No, I know about X, Y, and Z, so how can I be a bad father? Or: A bad father wouldn’t worry about being a good father. Or: Gwyn has enough on her without me being insecure.

Gwyn is the one with doubts. She doesn’t recall much of her mother but knows that she was eccentric and wild and couldn’t be tamed. And while Gwyn is certainly level headed, she realizes that she doesn’t know how a good mother makes you feel. So how could she possibly know how to be a good mother with no experience?

It’s Azriel who assuages her doubts and reminds her of how she cared for the children in Sangravah. It’s Azriel who reminds her that she knows Feyre and Nesta who are both good mothers. It’s Azriel who assures her that there is nothing they can’t do together. And he’s happy to do all of the above because for most of their relationship, Gwyn has been the one holding his hand through his insecurities.

The only insecurity Azriel has is his shadows and his hands. He worries that they will frighten the baby. He knows that his shadows will treat his child like their own and that growing up with his grotesque scars they will probably become used to them, but he can’t help but quietly worry. That said, Gwyn is a little relieved to see she isn’t the only one with concerns and encourages Azriel to embrace those things:

“I bet they’ll think their father’s hands are special because they are so different from everyone else’s.”

“Catrin had webbed fingers and the children weren’t the least bit concerned.”

“As someone on the receiving end of your shadows affections, I can promise you that there is nothing frightening about them.”

So in conclusion: while Rhysand is honored to be a father and Cassian is thrilled Azriel is prepared. And while “prepared” doesn’t necessarily sound as precious as being enthusiastic or overwhelmed, it’s truly the most intimate thing Azriel can do. Being prepared is how Azriel expresses his dedication.
