I was thinking about the mars rover then I remembered space cores lines where he’s talking about how space is too big and scary boring and he wants to go back home. So I made art based on that

GLaDOS conducts a second retrieval mission for Space Core after Wheatley tells her and Chell that he wasn’t actually happier up there. He’s shut down by the time they find him but GLaDOS is able to repair him and makes a planetarium for him. She likes the cores a little more and actually enjoys his company. At least he’s mindlessly rambling about science instead of tea and the queen.

He’s very relieved to be home and synthetically cries about it

au where instead of her old head getting ejected GLaDOS and wheatley just switch bodies and instead of having a potato stuck to chells portal gun she has to carry GLaDOS’ bitchass around /all/ the test chambers

chell can pick up or put down GLaDOS during tests (game physics don’t allow glados to be dropped over the edge) and if she drops GLaDOS a little to hard or throws her or bounces her on the gel or something you get a lil bonus dialogue

instead of attaching the “new“ corrupted cores (space, fact, and rick) you attach the old cores (specifically morality and curiosity) plus core!GLaDOS to corrupt wheatley

you would get the cores the same way as in the og universe - since the cores are technically fireproof (they can withstand like 4000 degrees kelvin or something insane like that) they just got deactivated and put in the corrupt cores box that the original au cores were in. they’re a little banged up, kinda scorched, but they still work. you receive the cores and attach them to wheatley the same way you would have in the og universe, just that space, rick, and fact are replaced with curiosity, morality, and core!GLaDOS (in that order).

wheatley still booby traps the stalemate button, but instead of chell shooting a portal onto the moon core!GLaDOS tricks wheatley into authorizing the core transfer as chell passes out.

this would still have the og lore of GLaDOS being caroline - she remembers she’s caroline bc the memories triggered by the tapes uncover code that reveals GLaDOS as caroline. these lines of code would have been previously blocked by the mainframe, but since GLaDOS is in a core she would have access to them. she wouldn’t have accessed them when she first became a core bc 1 she didn’t know they existed and 2 she had bigger things to worry about

glados is still scared shitless of birds bc that part of wheatleys code just came programmed in with the core (along w pain sensors and apparent lactose intolerance, among other things)

not sure what would happen to wheatley as punishment by GLaDOS - android hell, maybe? testing with atlas and/or pbody? put into a potato battery? im open to suggestions

@shrimpvevo they’re literally so stupid and lack all critical thought like “ohhhh potato battery project says chell so shes c&c’s child & turret opera says bambina” as if c&c weren’t dead @ the time, are literally both white when chell is not, etc. chell could not have been a child on take your daughter to work day she would have already been an adult. Bambina used in that context is closer to the romantic use of baby. C&C weren’t even in a confirmed relationship. It cheapens the game and is an incredibly stupid and boring theory that I hate. And I’m not even going to touch on the “companion cube is made of humans” theory because that’s literally the dumbest theory I think I’ve ever heard and gametheory being the one behind it should make it instantly ridiculed.

@radicata in theory yes but 1&2 were already so plot heavy (& a major part of why ppl love the games) that I think it would be a let down if they got rid of that. Also I don’t think valve would ever consider it bc of how much they enjoy doing plot heavy games & are kind of known for that 😪. That being said i think it would be cool if they did what ur suggesting as like… co op dlc for portal 2 maybe? I think pbody and atlas are still alive so glados can mess with them. Or maybe chell gets to go back and pay glados bird child support.

currently need to unwind a little bit so here i go:

for whatever reason the files still contain voice files that are part of the compiled cutscenes (coop end, art therapy coop end, wheatley space monologue). coop end in particular has a Lot of retakes, and art therapy has a couple lines that weren't in cutscenes in the first place

anyone heard of the scripts about the cave johnson cube encounter and glados saying she's chell's mother? well those are also voiced. but only on glados' side

some retakes with slightly different translations that got rephrased for the final

an alternate version of the bootup sequence, where her personality construct seems to have been damaged by 89% and she attempts to like "get to know" chell? ("How are you? I'm not insane. The water in the cooler is so tasty mmmm")

a reference to the first line seeing glados face to face in og portal (Well, you found me. Again.)

a set of "hubstage" lines with glados saying you've damaged [her] and would normally go to jail for that but in these apocalyptic times you can become an honorary employee and are invited to power something on

a set of coop lines where glados talks about how in some cases subjects not hearing her resulted in damage to the inner ear, immediate disembowelment, and a death full of suffering (i guess it would originally go where she talks about seeing some deer frolic?)

a coop line where glados breaks the fourth wall a bit (I can't understand your motivations sometimes. It's like someone's controlling you)

a couple lines of her saying she talked to the reassembly machine about atlas and pbody becoming too human and that [we] think you should stop. does. does that imply the reassembly machine is like their dad?

as potatos a reference to Prometheus ("There's a character in mythology who also got pecked by birds in the bowels of the earth? Do you know who I'm referring to? Unfortunately I don't either")

as potatos a couple variations of lines about having phantom limbs, and how for her being in the potato is like having 800 trillion of them

more lines on attempting to remember being caroline. including her last words and an emotion of remorse?

a couple different lines during the long fall. including her talking about how the scientists attempted to do everything to prevent her from using neurotoxin (which included hiding neurotoxins and hanging signs "Don't poison with neurotoxin" all over the place. classic) and wondering how would escaping with wheatley even work ("What did you expect? That you two would run away and live in the forest? He's a metal ball, he can't move. Why would he live in the forest? In the mud! In the forest!")

some lines that were supposed to be spoken by glados as caroline? ("Maybe we should hide the bodies first, mister Johnson? Nobody will mind a couple missing astronauts, mr. Johnson"). i love how the two of them imply that caroline was just as much of a science nut as the rest of aperture

remarks on you breaking wheatley's screens ("It's funnier every time you do it.")

randomly a placeholder line ("Here GLaDOS says something")

a line implying there was supposed to be some kind of a time slowdown field??? ("You have just experienced the effect of the Aperture Science Self-respect Field, which temporarily speeds up your reaction time")

a line implying glados was ALSO told not to do things or she would die ("Do you want me to disclose the contents of your file? That's a serious protocol violation. I was told that if I ever violated the testing protocol, I would die. But I am not dead. Phew")

most of these are glados but wheatley also has his share. for one there's a line about urging chell to jump into the blue light ("Jump into this... blue, beautiful, cool light. Fresh light. Gentle light. Mmm, what a light... Jump into the light. Just jump into the light already!")

variations on entering wheatley's lair with him saying he wanted to put lion statues in there and remarking how you COULD die earlier but you were just so STUBBORN

and last but absolutely not least or even final of those, the list is already way too long:

GLaDOS, supposedly in the progress of being sabotaged: "I remember something sweet, light. That was cereal. Oh my god. I'm at a cereal factory and I'm in danger!"

Venus looked trapped. She glanced at Doug for help, but the mainframe did NOT like that.

Doug sighed heavily through his nose, knowing he was going to be reamed if not flung right off this catwalk for lying to the mainframe.

"My name is Venus Halley Magellan, and in 1989 my lot was drawn for the personality upload initiative started by Cave Johnson--" She decided to start at the very beginning. "It was an effort to put personalities on disks, as i'm sure you know very well, as you were the most... successful... result. The rest of us... The cores, as you and chell know them... We glitched. Some major part of us was... skewed, or exaggerated, as we were uploaded. our bodies were cryo-stored in the old aperture vault, just in case. we lived as cores-- dampening spheres, attached to you to stop what's hurting you now from making you do bad things, because you never forgave Cave, did you? Or anyone to do with the initiative. Then Doug and Chell came along. Bring your daughter to work day, 1997. she brought a potato battery, remember?" She looked at Doug and he looked painfully aware. Of course he remembered.

"She was taken by some of the more devout... scientists. Raised in aperture as a subject. Doug saw potential. Tenacity. She became the best subject, And when wheatley messed up being in charge of the test subjects, her cryosleep glitched, too, and she became the only test subject that survived after 5000 years of you being stuck in your blackbox feature. Then, Wheatley and Chell accidentally woke you up again. A lot of stuff happened, Wheatley was in charge for a while. Put you in a potato... But it ended with Wheatley and myself, in core form-- being ejected near the moon. You fished us back in, and when Atlas and Pbody found the cryovault in old aperture, you restored us to our human bodies, and we've been trying to restore aperture ever since. We.... you and i, i mean, we got close." She didn't feel right somehow using the word love to this new or, in this case, old thomas. "Then an accident happened." She wouldn't throw Doug under the bus. "Your human body... and the memories of the last few decades, went over that rail. hours ago." She concluded.

THOMAS groaned and gently hit his head against glass he was standing behind. “How can you be that stupid? This isn’t that hard. You’re even dumber than Chell..” He chastised and stared down at the human beneath him, rubbing his temples. “Oh well. I need to do something. I will be back.” He stepped away from the glass, walking down a hall way. He paused though, something making him stop. (1/2)

He heard.. Talking in the walls? He ran his hand along the wall to find a crack, before looking in. What he saw surprised him, and then angered him. He saw Space talking to.. Rattman?! Yanking the wall panel away, he glared at both of them. “Space... What are you doing with /him/?” He marched up to her, his blue and orange eyes glaring down at her. (2/2)

“I’M NOT!” She stands up, yelling the half-baked excuse and running to Thomas, throwing her arms around his middle to stop him going after Rattmann, who was scrambling back into a hole. “DON’T BE MAD AT DOUG, PLEASE--” 

“Remember, Venus!” ‘Doug’ said, slipping through panels out into the catwalks.

The mainframe’s corrupting voice whispered in Thomas’ mind. The little voice the facility had that always whispered terrible things, that HAD been cut out almost entirely before Morality and the others were removed from his person.
