Odypen definitely and equivalently adore each other BUT I weirdly can't see them as the type to actually say "I Love you".

They still definitely vocalize their love for each other but it's more so in "My Joy", and "Extraordinary Woman", "Strange Woman/Man", etc. And very cheesy lines (both say some cheesy shit in the Odyssey, and he definitely does in the Iliad as well. "Joy like a drowning sailor seeing land" bit???)

I could see "I adore you" but even then, that's probably during very specific moments but the actual "I love you"??? I just typed it just now for fic shit and... It weirdly just didn't feel right and I don't know why. 😅

Idk maybe it's kind of because I see them as over the top in ways, they love wordplay and riddles and I think they'd almost think "...That's not good enough >:( " about it??? I don't know???😂

Okay, I just found out that historically Mary was between fourteen and fiteen yo when the archangel Gabriel gave her the pregnancy news. My whole Jesus is somewhat real on Good Omens so how did THAT conversation went made me actually more curious now because it's not only Good Omens Gabriel gives bonkers news to a human but Good Omens Gabriel gives bonkers news to a teenager.

#mfw a movie has irish slang in it and i am familiar with it instead of usamerican stuff #i have Some Thoughts on the setting of inisherin + the time period given the givens abt the aran islands #but nothing concrete. might meditate on it #like ok im no scholar on the aran islands ive been there a couple times ive read a couple articles thats it #but like. the tourism leaning into their image of Old Irish Villagín With Sheeps And Stone Walls basically overruns its reputation #and the islands have leaned hard into the tourism and portraying themselves as True Irish Old Villages or whatever #and thus settles the situation where like. everything about the islands pander to the tourists #the islands themselves are not doing well as places to live iirc #aging population people moving away lack of amenities and funding and resources that arent Tourism #its a gaeltacht but the tourism business mandates knowing english etc etc etc lotsa shit #like i had a school friend from an island and she was always unreachable on breaks bcos the island didnt have wifi #SO! the islands around ireland suffer from lack of facilities while bending to tourism bcos they gotta #BACK 2 BANSHEES to be clear inisherin isnt an actual island but it was filmed on inish mór and very clearly based on the arans #i like the island setting bcos of the sense of isolation it gives i think it was a good choice for the movie #HOWEVER its like. you know the thing where all irish media needs to be set in the old times #when we were all wearing aran wool jumpers and playing our little instruments and being cute historical dotes #yeah. that. compounded with the aran islands wicked having to play into that in the present day #like banshees itself isnt that bad an offender. the island setting just makes it more obvious and you could tick lines off on a bingo sheet #(shoutout to the obligatory civil war reference)#where was i going with this. im tired of weird 'back when ireland was ireland' shit being Thee thing to make art abt #this is why young offenders is the best piece of irish cinema this decade. i need to rewatch the young offenders

#yes Elizabeth was without a doubt considered too low-born to be queen #no she was not a commoner and nobody actually called her that during her life (so I'm not sure why people are claiming that they did?)#Elizabeth's social status was not a problem in itself; it was a problem in the context of queenship and marrying into royalty #Context is important in this and for literally everything else when it comes to analyzing history. Any discussion is worthless without it.#obviously pop culture-esque articles claiming that she was 'a commoner who captured the king's heart' are wrong; she wasn't #But emphasizing that ACTUALLY she was part of the gentry with a well-born mother and just leaving it at that as some sort of “GOTCHA!”#is equally if not more irresponsible and entirely irrelevant to discussions of the actual time period we're studying.#Elizabeth *was* considered unworthy and unacceptable as queen precisely because of her lower social status #her father and brother had literally been derided as social-climbers by Salisbury Warwick and Edward himself just a few years earlier #the Woodvilles' marriage prospects clearly reflected their status (and 'place') in society: EW herself had first married a knight and all #siblings married within the gentry to people of a similar status. compare that to the prestigious marriages arranged after EW became queen #Elizabeth having a lower social status was not 'created' by propaganda against her; it fueled and shaped propaganda against her #that's a huge huge difference; it's irresponsible and silly to conflate the two as I've seen a recent tumblr post cavalierly do #like I said she was considered too low-born to be queen long before any of the propaganda Warwick Clarence or Richard put out against her #and the fact that Elizabeth was targeted on the basis of her social status was in itself novel and unprecedented #no queen before her was ever targeted in such a manner; Clearly Elizabeth was considered notably 'different' in that regard #(and was quite literally framed as the enemy and destroyer of 'the old royal blood of this realm' and all its actual 'inheritors' like..)#ngl this sort of discussion always leaves a bad taste in my mouth #because it's not like England and France (et all) are at war or consider each other mortal enemies in the 21st century #both are in fact western european imperialistic nations who've been nothing but a blight to the rest of the world including my own country #yet academic historians clearly have no problem contextualizing the xenophobia that medieval foreign queens faced as products of their time #and sympathizing with them accordingly (Eleanor of Provence; Joan of Navarre; Margaret of Anjou; etc)(at least by their own historians)#Nor were foreign queens the “worst” targets of xenophobia: that was their attendants or in times of war commoners or soldiers #who actually had to bear the brunt of English aggression #queens were ultimately protected and guaranteed at least a veneer of dignity and respect because of their royal status #yet once again historians and people have no problem contextualizing and understanding their difficulties regardless of all this #so what is the problem with contextualizing the classism *Elizabeth* faced and understanding *her* difficulties?#why is the prejudice against her constantly diminished & downplayed? This month's bonus book is super long and it seems the reason for that is because the author spends like a paragraph doing world-building or unnecessarily over-explaining reactions between each line of dialogue -_-

#i'm only 3% through so far so it may improve once we've done enough of the world-building #but if not then it's only a matter of time before i dnf it because it's already grating on me #it's like. i don't care about this side character's relationship with her parents please just get on with the story #also the author's ripped off norse mythology but not in like. a good or clever way.#she's literally just changed the name of things very slightly or used the names of things for entirely different concepts #and the main character is apparently from a 'small village called nidaros'#nidaros is the old name for trondheim y'all. she's from fucking trondheim. which isn't a small village and wasn't when it was nidaros eithe #but i'm pretty sure the city itself is supposed to be entirely fictional #it's certainly not set in medieval norway bc they have cell phones and stuff #anyway we'll see how long it keeps up and how much it tries my patience #but if it doesn't improve soon it's going in the bin (metaphorically speaking given it's an ebook)#bc it's a hefty-ass book and i'm not investing near on 20 hours into something i don't enjoy

#ooc ramblings.#suggestive //#i rewatched the final trial of dr2 and i completely forgot the details of this exchange my GOD #the real Makoto appears and Junko perks right up. it's kind of crazy!! Makoto is not beating the infinite rizz allegations #i think what she said about Makoto's entrance being 'the gallant entrance of the main character' is really conspicuous in a game like #DR2 that's very concerned with its metanarrative about games. What happened to Makoto after DR1 is that he more or less became #the main character of the world because he was able to resist and defeat its ultimate villain. like Junko says he even makes a very tropey #and MC-like entrance! The MC appearing late in a pinch but just before everything is lost is a trope as old as time itself #the protagonist of DR2 is undoubtedly Hajime but I would say the protagonist of DR's world is Makoto. Hajime ends up making a resolve #for the future and freeing himself of that hope/despair dichotomy that defines a lot of the conflict in the series. this idea is also in #NDRV3 with how the audience are clamoring for either the ''hope'' ending or the ''despair'' ending but Saihara rejects both #and ends the entire system third choices included

Had an absolute vision of a dream last night that one of the episodes of series 5 starts with Alison about to drive somewhere, and for whatever reason, the Captain was sitting in the passenger seat. They got outside the gates and the captain didn't disappear. This causes them both to freak out, and the Captain freaks out so hard that his soul or whatever regresses and warps time for a second, and Alison has to slam on the brakes so they don't crash. When she looks over at the Captain to check if he's okay, there's a little girl in the seat.

Turns out the Captain is trans and he could leave the grounds bc for some reason he was connected to a locket in his pocket which was a gift from his mother that had his deadname inscribed on it (I don't remember what it was; maybe Elizabeth?). The picture on the inside was one of those typical victorian family portrait photos from when he was little.

The episode then becomes about Alison finding out more about the Captain's life and them finding members of his family's graves and people who are still alive, like younger siblings or nieces/nephews.

The B plot was all the ghosts freaking out that the Captain had been sucked off bc suddenly he's just not there and they don't know what to do! It was still so recently that Mary left them and now the captain too?! 😭

Anyway I know it makes no sense that he would randomly become attached to a locket that's always been in his pocket when we've seen him be unable to pass through the gate before, but this was a dream so whatever 😖 Trans Captain is now canon in my head and my heart so 💕
