Behold! The same fish, 15 minutes apart. Any time you see a stressed out pet store betta fish with horizontal stress stripes, it's pretty much a guarantee that it looks nothing like its true coloration. I actually still see some stress stripes on this boy even in the second image, so I'm looking forward to seeing how he colors up tomorrow!
I'm really glad I bought him. I like shortfinned bettas and I know what alien bettas are meant to look like (and had been hoping to get one), so he was perfect for me, but I also kinda figured that it was really not likely that somebody else would want him compared to the colorful halfmoons.
I usually give my betta fish fandom-ish names, and the temptation is high to call this boy Vox...

made the mistake of going to Petsmart alone today.... told myself "i'm just gonna look for fish supplies and stuff, need new heaters for winter, i am NOT leaving with anything alive."
i lied.
guess it was finally time to welcome a new girl to the family.... here she is. the teeniest betta fish Petsmart had.
i have named her Rosie. the second i stuck her in my 20 gallon full of scuds and shrimp, she bolted after every scud she could find. she is a vicious hunter. none shall escape her maw.
witness her hunting prowess.
