Hobby Drama: Emilie Autumn's Asylum [Part 1]
u/pillowcase-of-eels posted a link to their fandom-and-EA-history write up to the r/EmilieAutumn Reddit, and I thought it would be a fun project to share! 2 out of 7 parts have been posted to r/HobbyDrama so far.
Picture this: it's the early 2010s, somewhere in the western world. Instagram is a novelty, Harvey Weinstein runs Hollywood, almost no one on Earth leans one way or the other about RNA vaccines, and Donald Trump is that one real estate guy you vaguely remember from Home Alone 2. New player Lady Gaga is the most interesting thing to have happened to pop since Madonna, and the whole industry is attempting to catch up; Miley Cyrus is the chick who used to be on Hannah Montana; Melanie Martinez hasn't hatched yet. The time of Oddball Concept Divas is dawning just below the horizon.
You're a Bowie-loving student who skipped goth night at the club to tag along with your art school friends for a very special evening. You're a giddy sixteen-year old rocking cat ears, purple Wet 'n Wild eyeliner, a polyester petticoat, and a coffin-shaped backpack. You're an effete theater kid who sewed his own waistcoat for the occasion, but won't dare wear it to school the next day. You're a buff, bearded dude in a Venom shirt who's trying not to look too excited, since your girlfriend supposedly had to drag you here. You're a slightly bemused parent leaning against the back wall of the venue, sipping a warm half-pint, wondering if this isn't all a bit dark for a tween. ("It's called 'Victoriandustrial', mom," you've been told in the car, "and it's not dark, it's art.")
On stage is a pink-haired woman, with red porcelain-doll lips and a heart painted on her cheek. Among a set of antique consoles, twee tchotchkes, teacups and plastic rats, she pounces and twirls in glittery platform boots, tattered striped stockings, and a tightly laced crystal-studded corset that looks like it's splattered in blood. This is ostensibly a concert, but there is no live band. Where one would expect a drum kit or a bass, three bedazzled burlesque vixens act as back-up singers and dancers, with the occasional vaudeville act a fire-twirling number, a fan dance, throwing pastries and spitting tea into the audience. Lots of wholesome girl-on-girl kissing, too. The music on the backing track is a genre-bender of clanging beats and beeps, lofty orchestral strings, and the frantic hammering of a MIDI harpsichord, as the pink-haired frontlady sings of heartache and betrayal and drowning. Think if the Brontë sisters had invented industrial rock.
The audience gasps in excitement when the lady whips out a vamped-out wireless electric violin. With rockstar cool and virtuoso poise, she leans into the instrument, touches the bow to the strings, and tears out a single plaintive, impeccably distorted high note. Then her fingers go wild, and for a few seconds, everything is perfect suspended animation. Uncannily perfect, almost. Just behind you, you hear someone whisper: "Wait, is she miming it?"

———————————————
August 2026
“Deep breathes, darlin’,” his hands were smooth against her shoulders, instantly calming her nerves. Y/n took a deep inhale, nodding as she slowly let the air leave her lips. Jake beamed at her, “This ain’t the first time you’ve been on stage. You got this.”
“I know, but performing on live television for millions of people is different than a few thousand in a venue,” she reminded him, feeling the anxiety return causing her to close her eyes. “It’s been six years since my last VMA performance, Jake. Also,” she nervously laughs, “This is the Vanguard award they’re giving me—I’m, quite literally, shitting my pants. I want this to be amazing.” To be fair the reason for her not being invited back to the VMAs was a mini break from music she went on after they got married in 2021. The birth of their children was another factor so it wasn’t until late 2025 that Y/n had released the music she’d been working on.
The break was much needed, but she was missing the stage, the touring, the fans. It was what kept her going and made her career worth it. Music was her life, but so was her family which is why she took so long to release an album. Now here she was years later about to step foot on the VMA stage for the first time in six years. Another thing that made it worthwhile was she was being honored with the MTV Video Vanguard Award. Leading up news outlets were covering her return and on the red carpet reporters were eager to know what Y/n was cooking up.
“And it will be,” he told her, cupping her face in his hands, careful not to mess up the gemstones and glitter around her eyes. She could feel the cool metal of his wedding band against her skin. “You are one of the best vocalists of our generation—the High Note Princess. One of the best stage performers of all time—it’s gonna be an amazing show. You’ve been working so hard for months,” he gives a comforting squeeze to her shoulders. “So just breathe with me and then you’ll go out there and sing your pretty little heart out. And it’s gonna be the best performance of the night.”
As she mentally prepared while waiting for the stage manager, Y/n leaned more into Jake’s arms and let her mind wander. Memories started to appear, reeling back to when her career kicked off all the way to when she met her husband and finally to the present day.
February 2008
Like any aspiring star, Y/n L/n made the rash decision to quit college and move to Los Angeles in hopes of achieving her goal of becoming a singer. Hollywood was calling her name, so she spent months applying to jobs in the area before finding a small studio apartment and packed up her little Honda and set sail for the city where dreams are made. Time would be the make or break factor if she stayed or retreated back home with her tail between her legs.
One year.
That was her deadline. One year to get a job at a label, get discovered, or possibly find something worth renewing her lease. Working as a singer at a jazz bar could possibly have one of the options come true. Again, it would take time before something happened.
Y/n wasn’t the only singer at the club. Another girl was on stage Monday’s, Wednesday’s, and Saturday’s whereas Y/n was booked Tuesday’s, Thursday’s, and Friday’s. The club was closed Sunday’s and the nights Y/n didn’t sing she was a server or bartender. The pay was good for the most part with her tips racking in more income than the biweekly check for singing and serving. Sometimes she’d get compliments from patrons, especially the older crowd saying, “You have such a unique voice—the way you have control and range makes me think you should be on the radio and not some little jazz club like this. Your talent shouldn’t be wasted, dear.”
The words and support always boosted Y/n’s confidence. Truly did it make her feel she could make it big. Actually break through into the industry. But that takes time and sometimes the opportunity arises when one least expects it.
Maybe she could audition for American Idol. Maybe she could upload videos on that new website YouTube. Maybe she could be bold and send some demos to labels, praying it would land on someone’s desk.
Or, someone important from said label would wander into the club.
That idea seemed like a far stretch. But just three months shy of Y/n’s deadlines she was approached by a gentleman after she finished her number one Friday night. A business card in his hand, he said, “Give me a call Monday morning, I’d like to set up a meeting to talk with you about your potential. Bring some demos if you have any.”
A notebook of songs in her hand and a CD of demos she spent the whole weekend working on, Y/n left Capitol Records that morning with a copy of her contract in hand and the promise of bringing forth the best music of her life. There were tears shed as she relayed the exciting news to her family back home. Her coworkers whom she adored threw her a party at the club in celebration that night. She wouldn’t leave the club just yet. Just because she had signed didn’t mean she would make it big in the long run. No, she decided to stay at the club until she at least was at the level where she could financially afford to.
The first time Y/n heard herself on the radio she broke into tears. It happened unexpectedly too. After packing up her car with two weeks worth of groceries that cost her entire paycheck Y/n switched the the radio to the pop station and was singing along to the tunes when she heard the beginning chords to her song, ‘Teenage Dream.’ Cars honked around after she slammed the brakes and abruptly pulled to the side of the road, eyes wide with her hands covering her mouth.
“You think I’m pretty without any makeup on. You think I’m funny when I tell the punchline wrong. I know you get me, so I let my walls come down, down.”
Y/n literally changed the channel just to change it back to make sure she wasn’t dreaming. That it was actually her song playing.
“Before you met, I was alright, but things were kinda heavy. You brought me to life, now every February, you’ll be Valentine. Valentine.”
“Let’s go all the way tonight. No regrets, just love. We can dance, until we die. You and I, will be young forever.”
“Oh my God!!!” She got out of her car just to scream while jumping up & down. People on the sidewalk were looking at her crazy but she didn’t care. Not when her own song was blasting from her car on the radio.
“You make me, feel like I’m living a Teenage Dream. The way you turn me on, I can’t sleep. Let's run away and don’t ever look back. Don’t ever look back.”
Y/n’s entire life took a 180 after that very day. Her talent agent and manager from Capital Records were calling her saying she was on the Billboard Hot 100. They were planning on releasing her second single earlier than planned in order to push up the release of her album. Every radio station was playing ‘Teenage Dream,’. There were days Y/n would be in a store and would hear in playing, causing her to break out in a grin.
Before long Y/n was getting calls left in right with her manager and publicist securing television appearances and interviews. Her second single ‘Firework’ was an instant hit, becoming a gold certified record in just a few weeks. People auditioning for X-Factor and American Idol were covering it. Videos being posted to YouTube. Then Y/n released ‘Last Friday Night,’, becoming a popular song for teenagers and young adults. The full album shot her off into stardom.
“SNL?” She dropped her muffin, staring wide eyed at her manager. “SNL wants me to perform?”
“I got Lorne Micheals on the phone—I literally have him on hold—and he’s awaiting your answer.”
“Tell him my answer is ‘fuck yeah!’”
“I’ll tell him…you said yes.”
The appearance on SNL only increased Y/n’s popularity. Following it was invitations to the Kids & Teen Choice Awards, the Billboard Music Awards and the MTV VMAS, in which she won Best New Artist at all shows and Song of The Summer at the TCA’s. The first time she won she was a stuttering mess, thanking the fans and people who voted for her and her family, managers, execs at Capitol Records all while trying not to cry on live television.
Then the 2009 Grammys happened. And she won Best Pop Album and Record of The Year for ‘Last Friday Night’. Her hands shook as she accepted the award from none other than Usher, trying not to fangirl as she approached the microphone. She was never gonna get used to meeting the people she admired.
“O-oh wow,” she stuttered over the screams, feeling the cool surface of the award in her hand. A Grammy. She was a Grammy Award winning recording artist. “This is the greatest honor I’ve ever received—bigger than when I graduated with high school honors,” she laughed nervously, causing people in the crowd to smile at her. “Huge thank you to the Recording Academy for this award. It’s an honor to be part of a group with so many artists I admire—some of whom I’ve listened to for years a-and I can’t believe I have the privilege of being in your presence. I-I wanna take a moment to thank everyone at Capitol Records, my managers Raven and Paul. To everyone who helped me on this album who put their heart and soul into it—this award is not just mine it’s yours. To my family watching at home, I know you’re all losing your minds in front of the tv,” she grinned at the laughs around her, “I love you all so so much and thank you for your support—helping me get to where I am. I’m sorry if I forgot anyone else—t-there telling me to wrap up—b-but thank you—thank you so much for this, I’m so blessed and honored—I can’t even put it into words. Thank you!”
All of 2009-2010 was dedicated to her second album. Y/n was in the studio, writing songs on napkins when she was out with friends, mentally hearing the tunes in her head. She presented and performed at award shows and she went on tour. The goal was to have the songs ready and written by the time the tour ended. Luckily she achieved that goal with at least twenty potential for an album. Anytime Y/n found inspiration she made sure to write it down as quickly as possible.
Now with two Grammys under her name, one of which was for her debut album, the pressure was on.
“This is totally different from what you’ve been doing,” her producer said to her after reading the songs.
“I know, that’s the whole point,” she gave a pointed look, “I don’t want everything to be or sound the same. This is gonna have a different sound than what we did last year. Trust me it’s gonna be big.”
Might as well call her psychic cause that’s exactly what she was.
“It’s been a great week for popstar Y/n L/n, her recent single ‘Summertime Sadness,’ has shot to the top spot of this week’s Billboard Hot 100. A new sound that’s more mellow than her previous work, it’s been well received by fans and critics. L/n is finishing up the American leg of her world tour and is set to release her second studio album in the fall. Just two years ago L/n became an international star after winning two Grammys for her debut album and appearing on television such as Saturday Night Live, Ellen Degeneres, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. With her unique voice and style she’s been viewed as the next pop diva, joining that of Madonna, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga.”
‘Video Games’ was released when the tour concluded and it became her best single to date. The music video was played on MTV early in the mornings and predicted to be nominated for every award one could think of. It was that single combined with the critical acclaim from her album in 2011 that had Baz Luhrmann calling Y/n to write a song for his upcoming 2013 movie ‘The Great Gatsby.’
“And the Oscar goes to….” Y/n’s hand clutched her manager’s, keeping a calm face since the camera was panned on her and the other nominees. In Halle Berry’s hand was the envelope with the winner of the 2014 Oscar for ‘Best Original Song.’ Heart pumping out of her chest, she barely registered her song and name leaving the actress's lips. “Young & Beautiful,’ by Y/n L/n.”
Baz jumped from his seat, as did her manager and producer, the latter of whom she was sharing the Oscar with. A hand flew to her mouth, feeling her arm tugged as they lifted her from her seat while the theater erupted in applause. It felt like she was floating when she approached the stairs, taking the arm of her producer when he offered her help.
“Congratulations,” Halle said, opening her arms for a congratulatory hug before handing the gold statue to the singer. Y/n let out a mix of a sob and laugh as she replied, “T-thank you.”
Another statue was presented to her producer, Y/n waiting for the applause to end until giving her speech.
“O-oh my God, I just met Halle Berry,” there were some chuckles, the singer pausing to hold a hand to her thumping heart while the other clutched the Oscar. “I-I don’t know how to start. First, thank you to the Academy foremost—it’s an honor to be receiving this recognition. Shout out to the other nominees and their incredible work—you all are amazing and we’re so lucky to be almost you all. We all have one major thing in common, and that’s music. Music and movies bring people together—it’s a universal language that we get to be a part of and I am so grateful everyday for being a part of it. Thank you to Baz for allowing us this opportunity—it was so fun working on this song for you and your spectacular film. This Oscar is for you, Baz,” she saw the director blow a kiss from his seat. “Thank you to my producer, Tim—who’s standing right next to me. The magic behind Young & Beautiful, Tim you are a genius and I love you so much. Lastly, to my family back home—ah!” She waved the trophy like a little kid, “Look! I love you all so so much—thank you and I can’t wait to celebrate with you when I come home. Thank you everyone!”
Each year came with more success. The rest of 2014 going all the way to 2016 was nonstop energy. She was working day and night, touring, performing on talk shows, collaborating with other artists—like Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, The Weekend, & Justin Bieber—and dabbling in acting jobs. Y/n secured roles in films like The Greatest Showman, The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials & Death Cure, & The Shape of Water. Some television roles included MTV’s Teen Wolf, American Horror Story and guest appearances on Criminal Minds, Greys Anatomy, and Doctor Who. Her role on AHS garnered her an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. After the award show her manager told her with a wink, “All you need is a Tony and you’re part of the EGOT club.”
EGOT. The ‘grand slam’ in show business. Where only more than a dozen people have achieved the status in which they have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. The biggest awards in television, music, film, and theater.
After she heard that….well you could say Y/n was on a mission.
She continued to release music while pursuing acting. She leased her third and fourth studio albums in the span of eight months—a rare sighting for an artist. Both broke records in their own right. ‘Break Free,’ was playing in every club and ‘Imagine’ was used in Riverdale. She won the Grammy for best Pop album once again and performed ‘Imagine’ at the show. The second it was revealed she got the role of Christine in Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera, the buzz was already on if she would achieve EGOT status if she was nominated for the Tony.
The show opened in early 2017, selling out at a rapid rate with people coming from all over the country solely to watch Y/n perform. She already showed the world she was a brilliant singer and actress, now it was time to combine the two.
Never did she think she’d meet the love of her life at a show.
Jake Seresin wasn’t much of a musical man, but his sister and nieces were so he sucked it up and attended with them. Now Jake wasn’t living under a rock, he damn well knew who Y/n L/n was and frankly the man was a fan. A lot of his exes were fans of the popstar so he was quite familiar with her music and even enjoyed her acting. So of course he was more keen to the idea of going to a Broadway show if it meant he got to see her perform live.
What he didn’t expect was to—literally—run into her on his way back to the hotel. After telling his sister he’d pick food up since her daughters were too tired to go to a restaurant, Jake took a shortcut which happened to be the alley between the show venue. The bag in his hand dropped, the pilot falling to his ass when the door suddenly opened and hit smack in the face.
“Oh my God, I’m so sorry!” A voice shouted followed by a gasp. “Are you okay, sir? ‘Please don’t have blood-please don’t have blood.’
“I’m fine,” he moaned, shaking his head a bit and feeling for any sign of a wound. Thankfully he found none. “It’s alright, ma’am.”
“Here let me,” she helped him up, Jake stumbling a bit and apologizing when he bumped into her. “Are you sure you’re okay? Do you need me to call an ambulance in case you have a concussion?”
“No, no,” he insisted, finally looking up which only resulted in him freezing. The woman he watched on stage not even an hour ago was standing in front of him. “Oh wow.”
Y/n was frozen too, for he was the most attractive man she’d ever laid eyes on. The glow from the street light shined down on him, illuminating his green eyes and blonde hair. His bone structure was what most Hollywood heartthrobs would die for. Come to think of it he could literally pass as a young James Dean.
“H-hi,” she smiled, feeling a bit flustered all of a sudden. It didn’t help that he was still holding onto her shoulders, and she was clutching his forearms.
“Hi.” Gosh even his voice was attractive. A southern accent could be made out with the simple word.
“I’m so sorry for not looking before pushing the door out like that. I—,” Y/n cut herself off when she spotted the discarded bag of what appeared to be food. Some of it spilled out causing guilt to fill her, “Oh gosh, I’m so sorry about your food.” Stepping away she reached into her bag to pull out her wallet. “How much was—.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Jake says, but the singer shakes her head.
“No I insist,” she takes out a random amount of bills which was likely triple what he had actually paid but she didn’t care. She extended her hand out with the cash, “I rammed a door into you and made you drop your food. Please let me make it up—otherwise I’m gonna have to drag you to the place you got it from and replace it myself.”
Jake couldn’t help but smile, taking the cash and examining it before only keeping the amount he had originally paid. “No need to give me more than what it was worth. Here,” he hands back the extra, making her frown but she takes it regardless. Her eyebrows then raise when he goes, “But you could make it up to me in another way?”
Tilting her head, she can’t help but say, “How so?”
“By having a drink with me. If you’re available.”
So that’s how Y/n L/n met her soulmate. By hitting him face first with a door. He literally fell for her if one thought about itpun intended.
What made it even better was Broadway not only gifted her future husband, but her status as an EGOT winner.
“Last night was a record breaking night for popstar Y/n L/n. The 30-year-old singer and actress has become one of just over a dozen to join the prestigious EGOT Club after winning the Tony for her Leading Actress in a Musical for her role of Christine in Broadway’s Phantom Of The Opera. L/n won the Grammy for Best Pop Album and Record of The Year in 2009 followed by the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2014 for The Great Gatsby. She then went on to appear in several television series including the popular horror series American Horror Story in which she won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. It was rumored L/n would venture into Broadway to possibly add a Tony to her collection of numerous awards, confirming this in mid-2016 when the cast for the 2017 run of Andrew Webber’s Phantom Of The Opera was released. Classically trained as a child, the popstar showed she can belt a lyric and hold a tune. It was a spectacular night for Y/n L/n, receiving a standing ovation when her name was called for the award and dedicating the Tony to her family, friends, cast members, and managers who’ve been with her since her debut in the music industry almost a decade ago. She is one of the youngest stars to ever achieve EGOT status and the fastest ever in a career.”
Many many songs were inspired by her relationship with Jake. Her entire album released a year after they got together was basically a love letter to him. ‘Love Song’ was regarded as her most beautiful record to date, a source for many fan-made videos for their favorite fictional characters and features in movie soundtracks. ‘Love Me Harder,’ & ‘34+35’ had fans go crazy with how frisky they were. Though their relationship was a secret it was obvious the popstar was in love. It only made fans want to know who was the special man to take her heart.
Jake learned pretty early on the price that came with dating a critically acclaimed songwriter: that if messed up there would be a song about it.
Immediately speculations arose that Y/n and her secret partner were broken up with the release of songs like ‘Woman Like Me,’ & ‘Power.’ She had to get on instagram one day to settle the rumors with a picture of their interlaced hands saying, “You drive me wild sometimes, but my love for you overpowers all.”
Their relationship was eventually exposed when Jake appeared in her music video for ‘Secret Love Song,’ released just shortly before he was set to return to Top Gun. People could easily tell the chemistry between Y/n and her ‘love interest’.
Maybe a little too much chemistry.
Dedicated fans were able to find out who Jake was in less than a week. Matching up his social media post locations and dates with hers, they didn’t even need them to confirm their suspicion to know they were together.
“I guess the cat’s out of the bag,” Jake chuckled, showing Y/n his phone screen with a picture that was just sent to TMZ of the two in San Francisco.
Y/n simply shrugged, “I’m fine with it if you are. I’m happy we got to keep it to ourselves for this long. And considering people are now asking about this—,” she held up her left hand, flashing the diamond engagement ring Jake spent his entire year’s paychecks on. “It was bound to happen sooner or later.”
Was Jake still the arrogant, egotistical pilot amongst his peers? Yes. But was he the type to boast about how he was engaged to one of the best musical artists of the century? Surprisingly no.
He actually enjoyed keeping that little detail a secret. To Jake his personal life was for him and him only. And he didn’t want people going around saying he was a gold-digger or wanting to be that guy who got to say he hooked up with a celebrity. Nah, he was in love with Y/n with his entire being. She was the gravity that kept him down to Earth. Sure they bickered like any couple but never once did either of them cross a line.
The only time they ever had a big argument was when he did get jealous over one of her former co-stars trying to have a shot at her. Y/n tried brushing it off saying it was nothing, but Jake could tell the signs and it upset him Y/n was not taking him seriously. “I just don’t see why you’re being so childish about a dinner party that’s gonna have multiple people.”
“Have you even asked who else is coming? Or wondered why he’s started texting you more when you guys finished filming ages ago? I’m not trying to be insecure or jealous, Y/n, but I know when a guy is trying to flirt. He didn’t even acknowledge me as your date when we were at the premier party. In fact I don’t think he said hello to me when he approached. All his eyes were was on you—which I don’t blame because you’re the most beautiful woman on the planet—but trust me, I know that look because I have it every second I’m with you.”
Needless to say you didn’t go to that dinner party and instead were doing what ‘Love Song’ was about the entire weekend.
When Jake goes to Top Gun for the special detachment, he’s still the arrogant asshole the others thought him to be. But if they were being honest they could see a difference in him. Maybe it was because he wasn’t flirting with anything with legs. Maybe it was the fact he rejected the drink from a pretty blonde. Maybe it was because they caught him smiling at his phone whenever he got a text. Whatever it was, they wanted to find out.
The only person in the detachment who knew of Y/n was Javy considering he was Jake’s best friend. She met him roughly eight months after she and Jake got together after much discussion. Their relationship was still a secret by then so they were hesitant to let anyone besides her team know, but Javy was an important person to Jake. He wanted his best friend to know the woman he loved.
Natasha being the amateur sleuth she was pretty much discovered Jake’s secret in a few days, “No fucking way.”
The evidence was presented to Jake during their lunch break the day after she found out, Nat holding the phone up for him to see. She literally watched the gears turn in his head, a sly smirk forming on his lips. “What about that, Trace?” The question caught the attention of their colleagues, who were trying not to show they were eavesdropping.
“Is that not you?” Nat looked at the screen to make sure it was on the zoomed in image of him and Y/n L/n. The entire music video Jake’s face was pretty much hidden from view, but briefly his face could be made out at certain angles.
“It is,” he shrugged, going back to his sandwich. A cluttered sound indicated Nat had dropped the phone on the table, scrambling to pick it up.
“So you just casually ended up in Y/n L/n’s music video for her iconic song?” By now heads turned, expressions of absolute shock. Well all except Coyote. He just raised his brows at Jake while holding back a laugh, wanting to see what he would say.
“No, I ended up in my fiancé’s music video for her iconic song.”
“You’re what?!”
“Babe, I got a favor to ask you,” Jake’s voice was tainted with exhaustion when he FaceTimed Y/n that night. She was at their Fresno home since he was stationed at NAS Lemoore and was planning to meet him in San Diego that weekend. Raising a brow at him through the screen she could tell he looked apologetic.
“What is it?”
“You think you could come down earlier than planned?” At her reaction he explained, “My detachment found out about us and well……they’re accusing me of photoshopping the photos of you and I—even though they literally saw us make out in your music video. And I want to prove to them I’m telling the truth.”
A moment passed and then Y/n burst into laughter to the point of tears. What got her was the photoshopping accusation.
“Stop laughing,” he pouted, “I’m fighting for me life out here—I could use some backup.”
“My goodness, Jake Seresin,” she calmed down, shaking her head at his butt hurt expression. “You’re something else you know?”
“So does that mean you’re coming?”
“I’ll book my flight for the morning as soon as we get off.”
One could envision the confusion on the pilots/WSOs when Jake prevented them from leaving the airstrip at the end of the work day. It was pushing five in the afternoon, they were tired and hungry, and honestly could care less about what Jake had to show them.
That was until the black SUV with tinted windows pulled up to the parking lot where they were standing. When the door opened jaws dropped to the floor with eyes bulging out at the person emerging from the vehicle. Who happened to jump into Jake’s awaiting arms. Fanboy had to rub his eyes to make sure he was seeing clearly. That it was Y/n L/n sharing a kiss with the resident asshole.
“Oh my God he wasn’t kidding,” Rooster said with a mix of awe and disbelief. Javy patted him on the chest, moving first to greet the popstar who shocked the pilots again with her warm welcome to them. None knew how to react when the couple approached hand in hand.
It’s not everyday someone meets a fucking EGOT winner.
“Hello,” Y/n smiled a dazzling grin, drifting her eyes over each of them and committing their callsign to memory. She could tell what they were likely thinking, ‘How the hell did Hangman manage to pull a fucking popstar?’ And ‘He must be brainwashing her, blink twice if you need help,’ kind of stuff.
Introductions were in store as well as explanations for how the couple came to be. In all the years they knew the pilot, none could’ve predicted that kind of secret. They quickly learned Y/n was not the typical celebrity—some of them were even ashamed to think she’d be stuck up, arrogant, snobbish. They were almost convinced the personality she had in interviews and fan interactions were fake, but Y/n was a truly genuine person. Not only did she come from humble beginnings, but she was a hard, driven worker who truly earned everything she’s gained.
And she was perfect for Jake. They were like two peas in a pod, with Y/n being the only one who could bring him back down to earth. Truly was an amazing thing to witness and the daggers were having trouble comprehending it at times. Hearing the story of how the two met brought tears to Rooster and Fanboy’s eyes by how funny it was, while Phoenix was covering her mouth to hide her smirk at how embarrassed her colleague was.
“In my defense,” he puts his hands on his chest when Bob asks why he thought to pass the side door, “I didn’t expect anyone to still be inside and potentially use that door.”
“He just hates when I tease him about how he literally fell for me,” Y/n winks, making them all smirk.
Later on in the night after going to the Hard Deck for drinks and pool, Rooster says, “You know I feel I won’t be able to use my karaoke song if we ever go cause I’ll be too flustered to sing a song in front of the person it’s written by.” Y/n couldn’t help but blush, giggling lightly.
“What is it?”
“Last Friday Night. Such a banger—really gets the crows going.”
Even after the Uranium mission happened, the daggers continued to remain in contact. Many were offered jobs of instructors but the real surprise came a couple months later from the Pentagon asking if they could remain a permanent team. Selling their San Francisco home, Jake and Y/n moved to San Diego, which was better since it was closer to L.A. The team hung out often with Friday nights reserved for the Hard Deck.
Y/n even found musical inspiration with them.
“So I have a proposal,” she hums to Nat and Callie one day while the guys are playing football on the beach. “Not a marriage one Jake claimed that one already,” she pauses when they all laugh at the joke, “but a ‘if you want to be a part of it I would love it if you did but I understand if you can't be’ kind of one.”
Nat tilts her head curiously, Callie mirroring her, “What is it?”
“I wrote a song….that you two helped inspire,” Y/n smiles at their expressions, “and I’d love for you both to be in the music video after I release it.”
Nat loses it, “OH MY GOD YOU WHAT?!!”
“Can we hear it!?” Callie blushes, “I’m so honored—oh my God I literally don’t know how to react to that.”
“Girl you cannot just drop that on us,” Nat playfully points with narrowed eyes, “If you weren’t Jake’s soon to be wife I would marry you right now.” Y/n just laughs, rummaging through her bag to find her notebook to show them the song.
“If he messes up you’ll be the first to know and we can head to the courthouse.”
“Don’t play with me now, Y/n,” Nat shakes her head. “No man has ever done something like that. Write a song inspired by me?” She gives a dramatic sigh. “Feels like I’m living in a romance novel.”
Both read the song, both fell in love with it and pretty much cried. It was empowering, motivational, a love letter to women, everything they wished they heard growing up in a field where men dominated and looked down upon them. Y/n made sure to keep them updated when she was in the studio, allowing them to hear it first before it was released.
2020 was a year no one could’ve expected.
It started off great with the singer releasing ‘Salute,’ shortly after the New Year and filing the music video in February. The song was well received from fans and critics, with people already calling it the ‘anthem of the year.’ Jake loved it and would send clips of him in the car to Y/n belting the lyrics. The guys all loved it too and loved that their colleagues were the source of inspiration.
Halo and Phoenix were part of the MV as well as women who in real life were doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, athletes, students, astronauts, & scientists from all ages, races/ethnicities, genders, etc. Not all of them were in the armed forces, but a couple were along with Nat and Callie. Special permission from the Navy & Top Gun was needed to put cameras in the F-18’s on the exterior and interior to capture footage of the two flying. Halo was Nat’s backseater for that day and the guys came out just to watch and support.
Released just before March, the music video hit 100 million views in less than 12 hours. It only grew from there with people praising Y/n and the women included in the project. There was talk of ‘Salute’ being nominated for the upcoming awards, Team USA asked permission to use the song for promotion for their women athletes for the upcoming Games. Y/n was over the moon, really looking forward for what the year held. Especially with her wedding around the corner.
Then the world shut down. Literally.
A global pandemic altered everything and everyone. Anything that required a group of people ranging from small to stadium level was banned. States were on curfew and not letting people cross borders, international traveling was restricted. Lockdown was mandated for pretty much everywhere to the point Jake was working from home for a couple months.
In that time Y/n threw herself into writing songs to release her next album. Her reason: she was in need of a break. Not a ‘I’m retiring from music,’ but a ‘I’m drained and in dire need of taking time for myself and start the family I’ve always wanted.’ It was always her plan for after she and Jake got married, just to have a few years for themselves and see where life takes them.
Thankfully when the pandemic hit Y/n was already done with her collaboration with Lady Gaga. The fellow popstar had been her friend since she joined the industry and it was a long time coming for the two to work together. Not to mention they were on American Horror Story together. The Mother Monster approached the High Note Princess in late 2019, both sharing ideas and writing the song together before recording to release in 2020. Filming the music video, they combed both of their aesthetics and styles to create a pop masterpiece.
Fans went crazy. They loved the return to classic pop when both singers had gone off to pursue acting careers and change their sound a bit. Many felt deprived of being able to dance to ‘Rain On Me’ in a club since going out was restricted. And you can best believe the Daggers felt the same—especially Rooster who loved to dance his ass off, “I would be tearing it up right now if Rona wasn’t such a bitch.”
Surprisingly the 2020 VMAs still happened. It was roughly six months after the outbreak and very strict regulations were in place for the show to go on. With ‘Rain On Me,’ being so popular and popstars releasing albums, Y/n and Lady Gaga were invited to perform. After prepping for weeks and self-quarantining, the daggers all gathered around at the couple’s home to watch the live show. Lady Gaga was the first to perform solely when it was their turn, then Y/n joined causing the select few in the crowd to cheer—with her friends and loved ones going crazy in their living room. All were in awe when she hit a high note, killing it with the choreography and honestly being the best performers of the night. Finally Lady Gaga left the stage with her dancers allowing Y/n’s to appear in time for the popstar to sing ‘Salute.’ At the house, Halo and Nat were dancing along and belting the lyrics with the guys while recording the performance on their phones.
“Sisters, we are everywhere! Warriors, your country needs you! If you’re ready, ladies, better keep steady, ready, aim, shoot! Don’t need ammunition, on a mission—now we hit you with the truth! Divas, queen, we don’t need no man, SALUTE!!”
2021 came with hope and breaths of fresh air. A vaccination was developed, restrictions were lifted in most locations meaning Y/n and Jake could finally plan for their wedding. It took a few months to plan, desiring an intimate private wedding at their home with their close friends and family. The daggers were all there, including Maverick, Cyclone, Warlock, and Hondo. Their families were all there as well as Y/n’s managers & agents, some cast members from the shows/films she grew close to, as well as artists like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, David Guetta, and The Black Eyed Peas, the Jonas Brothers, & Miley Cyrus.
A sweet ceremony, Y/n squealed when Jake tipped her back to the cheers of their loved ones as he kissed her passionately. “I love you so much, Y/n. Or should I say, Mrs. Seresin.”
“I love you too, Mr. Seresin,” she kissed him again, “Now let’s show them we’re the life of the party.”
Rings on their fingers, grins plastered their faces when they ran through the Arch of Swords the guys of the Dagger Squad set up on the aisle. Then came time for the reception. Jake presented Y/n with a sword, per military tradition, to cut the cake and Y/n poured the champagne over the tower of glasses. They had their first dance, which Javy made sure to do his best man duties and record everything.
Which came in handy when it was time for Y/n’s surprise for Jake.
Seating him in a chair at the front of the dance floor, Y/n smirked at his confused expression as she took the mic from the DJ, calling everyone's attention. “All of you know I’m one for surprises. And tonight is no exception,” biting her lip she signaled for her maid of honor, who started rounding up the bridesmaids. “I thought it would be great to give Jake a little treat tonight—do not take that the wrong way, I can already see your minds going somewhere,” she pointed at the daggers who were hollering, giggling as she continued, “Stop it. Anyways, we’ve been cooking up this little number for the past month and now it’s time to let it shine. Baby, this is for you.”
Jake slapped a hand to his mouth containing his expression of glee when the opening chords to Y/n’s ‘Power’ echoed through the speakers. Her bridesmaids got into place, the singer discarding her veil and moving to the center. Everyone was on their feet hooting and hollering, capturing the performance on their phones for memory. Javy even put the phone right up in Jake’s face, Payback slapping the pilot on the back as the others whistled and danced. Just the expression of his mother and family sent Jake into tears of laughter.
She was flabbergasted. Unlike his sister and brother who were having the time of their lives witnessing the masterpiece that was Y/n practically seducing her husband live and singer her own song.
“I don’t think she’s heard this song until now!” He shouted over the music to the phone, blushing when Y/n winked at him. To be fair, the bridge of ‘Power’ was a little on the frisky side and Y/n was edging closer to Jake until she was basically in his lap.
“Don’t be fooled, I got you wrapped up. In the arms of an animal—get you thinking that I’m all innocent. But wait ‘til I get you home. If you don’t, baby, you should know. I’m the one who’s in control.”
Hell yeah she was in control when she got home that night….well at least for a few rounds she was.
Sadness came with the announcement of her break from music. The hot topic for media outlets, Y/n had released a statement on Twitter and Instagram confirming the suspicions many had after her wedding. Fans were understandably upset that their favorite artist wouldn’t be releasing new material until further notice, but they’d rather have Y/n at her best and not give half ass energy in her work. She was burnt out. It was time for a break after 13 years with six albums, each with their own tour. Don’t get her wrong, the popstar loved to be on the road, but after a while she was ready to just stay home for some time without planning for what was next.
In the meantime she sold songs for other people, collaborated on writing with artists, and acted when filming was either in L.A or San Diego. She and Jake were happily married, little to no financial stress or personal issues, and were ready to expand their family. By mid 2025 they had/adopted two kids, two dogs, and a cat. They were a full house with no dull days whatsoever.
“Are you going to get back in the studio like you mentioned the other week?” Jake asked at dinner, helping cut his son's food into smaller pieces.
Y/n nibbled on her floor while also assisting their daughter, “Yeah I think this weekend I’m gonna call Jack up and see what his schedule is like. I got some lyrics I’d like him to read.” Sipping on her drink briefly she then asks, “How long do you think this next mission is going to be?”
“Probably a week or two. Mav is working out the details and hopes to tell us Monday. I just pray I’ll make it in time for your birthday.”
Y/n feels her heart skip, giving a soft smile, “You know I understand if you can’t, honey. If the Pentagon is tasking you then you know it’s important. We’ll celebrate either before or after you get back,” she assured, reaching over to hold his hand when he frowned.
“I just hate the idea of missing it, you know? It’s your birthday and I missed our anniversary last year,” he pauses to sigh, “I just hate leaving you guys for so long. And I never wanna make you feel like you’re always alone.”
“I knew what I was getting into when we fell in love. Don’t feel like you’re missing out or I’m going to suddenly start giving ultimatums because you know I’m not that person. If it was our anniversary or another memorable date I would still feel the same. You have a job, Jake, you’re the best there is to do it. There will be plenty more birthdays for us to be together for.”
Being back in the studio felt like a whole new world. It had been nearly five years since her last single was in late 2020. When Jake was working the kids would come with her and be the stars of the crew, playing in the mini play area they had set up while Y/n was recording. Besides the people she worked with, only Jake knew she was releasing new music. Quite literally Y/n did not announce anything until the night before with a single Tweet and Instagram post with the art cover and the caption, “Tomorrow at midnight, Between Us.”
She broke the internet to put it lightly.
@ Y/ns_microphone: WE’RE GETTING NEW MUSIC OMFG PLEASE TELL ME IT’S A WHOLE ALBUM!!
@ livinginharryshouse: y’all the High Note Princess is back I’m gonna lose it.
@ a_teenage_dream: 2025 ending on a great note 🥹 five years and the wait is over!!!!
@ dylanobrien ✔️: crying, shitting, throwing up. Thank you @ Y/n
August 2026
18 years in the music industry and the rush before a live performance had Y/n pacing backstage during the commercial break of the VMAs. Their children were being occupied by her manager while Jake helped her mentally prepare. He was going to be the one to present her the award at the end of her set, so they were just waiting for the green light from the stage manager. The performance was going to be nearly ten minutes, the longest she’s ever done live on an award show since it was going to be a medley of some of her classic hits while also including ‘Between Us’. Lady Gaga, Y/n’s close friend and who collaborated with her again on her most recent album, was going to introduce her.
“Deep breaths with me, baby,” Jake held her in his arms, kissing her forehead. “I can feel you shaking. But once you get on stage it’s gonna be like you never left.” Taking a strong inhale, Y/n let it out slowly before repeating.
“I know it probably won’t happen,” she starts to laugh, “but I can’t help but dread the idea of me falling on my ass or forgetting my lyrics.” Jake laughs with her, shaking his head while pulling away to look at her.
“Knowing you, you’d fall gracefully and make it look like it was intentional. Also you mumble those lyrics in your sleep…you won’t forget them.”
She leans more into him just as the stage manager yells, “You’re on in five, Y/n!” The commercial break must have ended. Lady Gaga was already being pulled on stage after wishing the popstar good luck with a hug and friendly kiss to the cheek. “We need you over here please.”
“That’s your cue,” Jake grins, cupping his wife’s face before bringing her in for a passionate kiss. Y/n smiles into it, nuzzling their noses together causing him to chuckle. When they pull away he says, “Go out there and have fun. Bottom line, baby, have fun out there and sing your heart out. I’m so lucky and honored to be your husband and share this life with you. Don’t start crying,” he playfully scolds when her eyes tear up, “you’ll ruin your nice makeup your team worked so hard on.” That makes her laugh. Jake kisses her again, “I love you, baby. I’ll see you at the end.”
“I love you, Jake,” she hugs him tightly, feeling comfort in the smell of his cologne. “Thank you for being by my side everyday. You’re the light of my life—,” she nods to the stage manager who was waving frantically. “Fuck okay, I wanted to be more romantic but I got to go before they drag me.”
“Go, go,” he kisses her cheek, Y/n moving quickly to kiss her children and hug her managers before waving goodbye. “We love you!!”
Running to the nearly annoyed stage manager, she throws off her robe to reveal her stage outfit and takes the microphone. Heart pounding, she adjusts her earpiece as they escort her to the spot she was needed just as Lady Gaga finished her introduction speech, “Los Angeles and to everyone watching at home, it is my honor to present to you your recipient of this year’s MTV Video Vanguard Award. Get on your feet and make some noise for the one and only, Y/n L/n!!”
It was still dark on stage where Y/n was hidden from the audience as all attention went to the giant screens all around showing the pre-recorded video montage with her face in black and white and eyes closed. The crowd was already going crazy as the camera zoomed in toward Y/n’s face while audio played of her talking about her love for music and the thrill of performing. The camera continued to pan in, the popstar on stage thinking about everything that had led her to that moment. From starting out her days singing in a jazz club, to becoming one of only 19 EGOT winners, and now the recipient of the Video Vanguard award.
The microphone went to her mouth, Y/n putting on the show of the year when the video ended with her eyes opening and voice echoing the music channel’s iconic phrase in the stadium, “I want my MTV!!”

astro ☆ observations I
next >
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
★ mariah carey's mercury is in pisces (detriment) which explains her fragile voice (nodules since she was very young, rapid vocal decline etc).
★ same with christina aguilera's mercury in sagittarius (detriment) and her singing with poor technique leading to a rapid vocal decline.
★ the houses are opposite each other for a reason: you need to find balance between the two houses. to achieve inner peace and a sound inner being (12H), you need to work on self improvement and provide service to others (6H). to find your true values and inner worth (2H), you need to heal and regenerate (8H).
★ the neptune in aquarius that my generation was born under has led us to be delusional about certain forms of "activism" (cancel culture) and has led to a LOT of performative activism seeing as neptune rules performers and aquarius rules progressive thinking and activism.
★ a lot of pioneering singers / artists are aries suns (sun rules natural talents) makes perfect sense! more proof that astrology never fails us.
aretha franklin - influenced the way people sing majorly, blended gospel with jazz, blues and r&b, used music as activism, known as the queen of soul, birthed generations of singers after her
diana ross - lead singer of the most successful motown group, the supremes, inducted in the Guinness Book of World Record as "the most successful female music artist in history", has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
selena quintanilla - broke down barriers for female singers in tejano music, known as queen of tejano music, one of the greatest performers of all time, opened doors for other latin musicians such as jennifer lopez and shakira.
lady gaga - broke down barriers for women in music and revolutionised pop music and popularised synthpop, used controversy to bring attention to issues, influenced her peers and later artists
elton john - revoluntionised rock + pop , lgbtq+ icon, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Songwriters Hall of Fame + appointed a CBE + has been knighted by Queen Elizabeth II
marvin gaye - inspired the use of black music to discuss personal and sexual politics in the 1970s til this day, influenced soul & r&b music greatly, combined gospel, soul, pop and jazz, one of the first motown artists to break free from the production system which paved the way for stevie wonder
mariah carey - introduced melismatic singing to the mainstream + introduced pop & rap collabs, blended r&b, pop and hip hop together, one of the greatest vocalists of all time, influenced a generation of singers, was the Artist of the Decade in the 90s, is an inductee of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
★ oppositions can be much harder to deal with than squares since squares need motivation and drive (even though it comes with work and difficulty), whereas oppositions require a balance (comes with a lot of pulling and instability)
★ neptune aspecting beneficial planets can trick you into believing the aspect is good until the damage is done (venus - neptune could see their s/o as a fantasy even if the relationship is very toxic)
★ neptune in 4th doesn't always mean you have a distant mother. it can also mean you have are distant from your family / ancestry. there can also be a long lost family member or a family secret.
★ check to see if asteriod medusa (149) aspects your sun because it can dramtically change the way your sun is expressed (in my personal experience)
★ not enough people talk about "mundane" houses like the 6H even though it is one of the most important since it represents daily life
★ the possession and intensity a lot of you associate with scorpio is really taurus and a lot of the stubbornness associated with taurus is really aquarius
★ stop associating zodiac signs with mental illnesses!! why does gemini = mania? why does aquarius = god complex?
★ jupiter - neptune (natal and transits) can be very very harmful. along with the expansion of fantasy + arts (can be good), you also get the excessive (jupiter) disillusionment and not being able to see things as they are (neptune).
★ back to singers with neptune ruled mercuries (pisces / 12H) or aspecting neptune, people can view their voice as perfect and can find it hard to point out the flaws in it (especially the fanbases)

why are gemini’s , leo’s and scorpios the most talked about sun signs
it’s something i’ve noticed
( a gemini sun , rising , venus is lowkey a fame indicator but more for the internet a longing impact on the internet many youtubers have this placement )
GEMINI
people have selective hearing when gemini s talk thet only wanna hear the projection they put on them which makes what’s their gonna say all the more intriguing to listen . gemini celebs will go down as legends in style and fashion they set trends by standing there . their existence is very unique as they kind of dress in a way that is cater to them so people idolize their style and their look come becomes iconic or well recongized and even tired too replicate .
observation there’s always something in and Gemini rising eyes , their eyes are always seen
marilyn monroe “ sexy eyes “ rihanna’s green eyes
prince , marilyn monroe & emma chamberlain , amy whinehouse( very recognizable hair make up )
lady gaga ( got even more well known for her outfits , what will she wear next , the meat dress)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
leo’s
are naturally shy and really selective with what they want to share there’s also so artsic they enjoy being alone and learning some of the randomness shi but people seem to call them self centered mainly cause they’re jealous LMAOAOS like leo’s are literally just here to glow and show us their natural talent like they just wanna sing dance and make art . Leo’s legends some of the most smartest loyal and secretive or selective with what they’ll say people even more than scorpio
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
kylie jenner, bretman rock , viola davis , jasson momoa .
megan fox ( leo moon ) people being obsessed with her beauty but also making her kind of villain
note : people with leo placements hair is a fundamental part of their self stem or persona . they could either change their hair a lot be or be bald ( stevee harvey leo moon bald ) and if u have anything at the leo degree and make risk of balding but u don’t have to believe me i’m just observing
leos attraction appreciation can sometimes be oversaturated or under appreciate in its time . so when they change, people want to say they appreciated them before leo was the definition of a glow up especially when they focus on themselves
scorpio
scorpios are ruled by pluto they are destruction and reformation they will change ur life kinda no matter what it’s just their energy. scorpio are sometimes loved and hated but that’s their point if you hate a scorpio u lowkey don’t wanna change( my opinion) The more u hate them the more u attract them , if you’re around Scorpios I think it’s just telling you that you need to change . scorpios are said to have obsessive tendencies which can be true for some with scorpio placements but it’s also an projection on to them so many people are obsessed with scorpios they want to know whats next for them who their with what they’re doing what they like who they don’t . and scorpios want to be more secretive but they also want that validation the need of being wanted so they over share . they also go through periods of people loving them and hating them for being well them . but u we’ll never get rid of a scorpio they will always live a mark where is the villain or the hero in whos ever story we’ll never forget them .
taylor swift ( changed the pop genre) katy perry ( CHANGED THE POPGENRE )
Tumblr media
frank ocean , drake ( CHANGE THE RAP & RNB. GAME ) MAD CLASSICS OUT THE GATE ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS THEIR VIEW OF THE WORLD CHANGED IT
kendall jenner ( her dramatic change being the highest paid model for being well kendall jenner )
Beyonce ( scorpio moon ) ( IMPACTED THE WORLD )
KRIS JENNER BUILDT AN EMPIRE
ariana grande ( scorpio mc )
nicki minaj ( scorpio mc )
scorpios are unforgettable don’t forget.

♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥
“You are such an asshole,” you groaned, pushing your boyfriend on the couch.
“You are such a bitch,” he growled, pulling you onto to his lap to engage in a messy make-out session.
It was the U.A. International Music Festival, and your group, known as The Chaos Crew, was headlining the event. Today was the first performance, ushering in the exclusive guests who paid extra for V.I.P. status. To say the least, Katsuki Bakugou, your boyfriend and drummer, was a lot more annoying than usual. Some examples were how the kisses you shared were rougher, the hand holding was almost painful with how tight he squeezed, and the mic checks were filled with intense staring. However, the band didn’t know you two were together, making the situation much worse.
Somehow, your other friends turned bandmates Eijirou Kirishima, Denki Kaminari, Hanta Sero, and Mina Ashido agreed to pursue the dream with you when you first offered up the idea. Bakugou took more convincing. He thought you were the most idiotic person on the planet. His superiority complex only became worse when you asked him if he could be the drummer for your new group. He agreed after hearing you beg for a couple weeks straight, which began the slippery slope of flirtatious tension.
Despite you two being together all the time, the flirting wasn’t obvious. Bakugou would notice your skirts when they were just a bit shorter, and you would notice when his shirts when they got just a bit tighter. Neither of you ever let the other one know, though. Both of you despised each other so much that it would be the death of either of you for your secrets to get out.
One day, this changed during a photoshoot for your first magazine article. A rival band, known as The Pros, was at the shoot, and their lead singer, Deku, was asking you questions whenever you weren’t working. You didn’t mind it. You actually found it flattering how interested he was in your vocal range. However, after watching Deku “flirt” with you, Bakugou dragged you to the green room.
Slamming the door, he turned around and asked, “Are you fucking blind, (y/n)?”
“Excuse me?” you scoffed.
“You heard me. He’s flirting with you for fuck’s sake! Tell him to just leave before I knock it into him.”
His overprotectiveness shocked you. You were more than confused. You weren’t that pretty, so Deku couldn’t be flirting with you. Your hair was well put together, your makeup was done nicely, and you were dressed with just a tad bit of sexiness, but you still looked average. It didn’t add up.
“Deku is not flirting with me,” you replied, rolling your eyes. “He’s just assessing the competition.”
“He’s staring at your tits and waiting for your little skirt to flip up,” Bakugou replied, clenching his fist.
“Ugh, stop being so vulgar!”
“I’m being honest, princess.”
Marching over to him, you met his gaze. Waiting for him to continue with another statement, you stood in front of him and didn’t cower under his stare. Instead of getting an earful, you felt pressure on your lips. He kissed you, and you loved it. You loved it too much. He was like a drug, and your first hit left you wanting more.
You ended up spending the next 30 minutes in the green room making out and telling each other how much you hated it. It was true love, and after this experience, you began dating each other in private. Your family knew and so did his, but your bandmates didn’t. At least, you both were in agreement about that.
As time went on, The Chaos Crew began rising in the charts. After releasing 3 number one singles, you started touring and gaining a much bigger fan base. The Chaos Children, or what your fanbase called themselves, began doing every celebrity’s nightmare in a matter of weeks: shipping. The most popular ship within your band was, you guessed it, you and Bakugou. This was a running joke between Denki and Sero, but little did they know it was already a sailing ship. This only made you keep your relationship even more private.
Now, back to the U.A. International Music Festival. The feverish kiss ended, leaving you and your hot-headed boyfriend panting messes. Leaning into him, you nuzzled your face in his neck. You pressed a kiss to his collarbone before stopping to just inhale his scent.
“Since when are you so needy?” Bakugou joked, mocking you.
“Since when did you start acting like a child?” you snapped back.
You yelped, realizing Bakugou had slapped your exposed thigh. Whenever you both were performing, he felt the need to have his hands on you at all times. The band and fanbase, however, couldn’t know about you two. It would be too detrimental to your career.
“When am I gonna see you in my room?” Bakugou asked, rubbing where a red mark was forming due to his slap.
“Tonight,” you coyly replied.
“Oh really? Will you be wearing my favorite little outfit?”
“Of course, I will.”
Suddenly, a loud knock interrupted your rendezvous. Brushing yourself off, you leaped off of Bakugou’s lap and stood up as formally as possible. Of course, you two had snuck off together. You couldn’t just tell everyone you were going somewhere with Bakugou alone. However, you were relieved to hear a familiar voice on the other side.
“Bakugou? (y/n)?” Mina called, waiting for either of you to reply.
“Come on in, babe,” you replied, saying it a little too quickly.
Mina opened the door and smirked when she saw you two. She had her suspicions about the two of you, but they were never confirmed nor denied. She knew she might never get her ship to sail, but she would never tell either of you that.
“What do you want, Bug Eyes?” Bakugou grumbled.
“Not much,” Mina shrugged, “but I have news. We have a schedule change.”
At this, Bakugou exchanged a look with you. A schedule change during the U.A. Festival was like waiting outside of a store for days for a limited-edition item then leaving and never buying it. Someone dropped their act for later that night. There was no other possibility.
“Sero got an update from Shinsou,” Mina stated, “and it looks like Deku broke his ankle from a stunt during their last show. They can’t perform tonight.”
Bakugou smirked, and you punched him in the arm. Ever since the photoshoot, he despised Deku. It was as if they were born to be rivals, which made you laugh a little.
“What’s the plan?” you questioned, knowing that Shinsou, one of the event directors, had already made one.
“We’re taking half of their slot,” Mina smiled, shoving a set list into Bakugou’s hands. “The other half is going to Itsuka Kendo, the new solo artist. She’s going first, and then we’re up.”
“We planning on singing from a particular era?” Bakugou asked, focusing more on the set list rather than the conversation.
“They don’t want us singing our songs,” Mina replied, causing both you and Bakugou to choke on air. “They want us to cover popular music.”
“We have no idea why, though. It’s kind of stupid, if you ask me,” Denki complained, walking in with Kirishima and Sero hot on his tail.
Upon their entrance, the boys came over to give you a hug and congratulate you on the earlier show. It went off without a hitch, and they insisted they give you credit since it was due. However, when a question about you and Bakugou running off came up, Bakugou immediately stepped in and said he wanted to jot down some lyric ideas. A game of playful banter began and went on for about 5 minutes before Shinsou entered the room.
“Well, it’s good to see that our fill-ins are ready for tonight,” he chuckled, walking over to place a hand on Denki’s shoulder. “You guys ready?”
Obviously,” Bakugou grinned. “How bad can it be? We’re just performing covers. It’ll be just like the old days.”
Immediately, your first performances and venues came to mind. Run-down bars and covers were normal for a few months before getting signed on by Shouta Aizawa, president of 1-A Records. After that, you were able to write your own music and live your dream.
“Yeah,” you chimed in, moving closer to Bakugou, “we can perform the last cover set we did before we got signed.”
“Hell yeah!” Kirishima yelled, pumping his fist in the air. “The Bad Romance Set was always my favorite.”
Everyone was in agreement. Shinsou trusted you all enough to bid you farewell for a few hours before you were called back on stage. The Bad Romance Set was, simply, the best cover set The Chaos Crew ever played. It was a tribute to Lady Gaga, and it celebrated her amazing career. Mina was the Beyoncé to your Gaga on Telephone. Kirishima was the killer guitarist during Shallow. Bakugou was the best drummer on the planet during Bad Romance, the huge finale piece of the set. It was the perfect set to get the crowd hyped and into the show.
Soon enough, the show was about to start. Itsuka was on her last song, a personal tribute to her ex-boyfriend. You were gussied up in all black, sporting a short mini skirt, a low-cut shirt, and a leather jacket. It was perfect. You looked like you could kill anyone that crossed your path, and you probably could. It only attracted your boyfriend even more to the prospect of getting handsy before the show.
“Come on, sexy,” he growled, kissing under you ear. “Let’s do it. We’ve got a few minutes.”
“No,” you responded, pushing him away. “We have to stay focused. You know our ground rules.”
Rolling his eyes, he kept trying and trying and trying. After denying him multiple times, he smacked your ass before sulking away to sit at his drum set on the dark stage. Once he did that, the rest of your bandmates followed his lead and walked on stage. The lights went up, causing the crowd to lose their minds over your presence. Glancing back at your boyfriend, you nodded your head to signal him to start the first song.
The act went wonderful. When you sang to the audience, you could tell the hardcore Gaga fans from the fakes. However, no one seemed disappointed in the set. Everyone thought it was fun and easy to dance to. It was very clear, though, that everyone was waiting on one song: Bad Romance. After 25 minutes of Gaga hits, you glanced back at Bakugou and nodded your head again.
Once the drums began for the final song, the rest of the band chimed in to start the melody. Immediately, the crowd recognized it and sang the opening verse with you. Mina chimed in with her amazing voice to layer your vocals. Sero and Denki had the electric guitar and synth timed perfectly with one another, which only added to Kirishima’s bass. Bakugou, of course, played his drums with passion and never took his eyes off of you.
Once the first bridge of the song arrived, your bandmates began growing with excitement. Your singing ability was always incredible to them, but the first time you nailed the added high note in the final chorus of Bad Romance, they knew you would be their lead vocalist. The moment was fast approaching, and you took the mic from the stand.
Finishing up the second bridge, you walked around to personally serenade each of your bandmates. First, Mina and you made sure to twirl each other, causing her to chuckle just a bit. You sauntered over to Denki, jamming out on an air guitar to compliment his real one. Next, Sero was graced with your presence, and he added a riff to impress the crowd. Kirishima was surprised, and you both exchanged flirtatious winks at one another. However, these actions annoyed Bakugou to no end. His blood was boiling, and his jealousy was rising. He needed to show these extras exactly who you belonged to.
The final chorus began, and you arrived at Bakugou’s drum set. To tease the fans just a bit, you decided you were going to belt the high note right next to your boyfriend. Besides, this entire song was about him and you. This song was the most important one in the whole set because of that. You knew it would give the audience the best reaction and moment to capture on film.
I want your love, and all your lover's revenge You and me could write a bad romance Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh Caught in a bad romance
The crowd went wild. A constant chant of “(y/n)” was repeated over and over again and filled the venue. The end of the song was close, and Bakugou’s patience was running thin. You didn’t move, stuck next to his drum set. Whether you were trying to prove a point or your affection for him made his brain hurt. All he knew was that he couldn’t keep it a secret anymore.
“Want your bad romance,” you sang, finishing off the song as dramatically as possible.
Leaping out of his seat, Bakugou threw down his sticks and bounded over to you before wrapping his arms around you. He pressed his lips to yours, claiming you in front of everyone watching. You fumbled with the mic before successfully flicking the off switch and let it fall to the ground. You wrapped your arms around his neck, melting into him. He tapped your hip, signaling you to jump. You happily obliged, basking in the way his calloused hands gripped your thighs.
Screams filled the venue. Fangirls cried about the way Bakugou held you while others cried because he was holding you and not them. Paparazzi snapped as many photos as possible, hoping to capture the best photo that could be put up on TMZ. Parents tried to cover their children’s eyes because they thought the scene was so vulgar. Oh yeah, you guys were definitely going to be trending on Twitter.
In a flash, the lights went dark across the entire venue. The screams didn’t cease, even when an announcement came over the loudspeakers. It wasn’t heard the first time, probably since you and Bakugou broke everyone there. However, speaker volume could be raised, and the announcement could be heard through the crowd on the second try.
“Attention festival guests,” the lovely voice began, “tonight’s performances are over. Thank you for attending the V.I.P. exclusive day. We hope to see you all tomorrow for the first official day. Have a wonderful night and stay rockin’!”
Before groans of protest could be heard, your band was escorted off stage and immediately into your limousine. Your were able to successfully avoid paparazzi, but that didn’t mean you and Bakugou were safe. You had your friends, and they were all nosy in their own ways.
“It was the photoshoot,” Kirishima began.
“Yeah! Come on, you wouldn’t stop glaring at Deku, Bakugou!” Mina grinned.
“We knew you both were together,” Sero smirked.
“Yeah, come on! You think we didn’t notice when you guys would run off to lock lips and do who knows what else?” Denki added on.
Bakugou was more than pissed off. After the onslaught of statements brought to the table, Bakugou effectively shut them up by yelling, “If any of you touch my girl, I’ll your kick your asses. Got it?”
“Whatever you say,” Kirishima replied, flashing a grin and a thumbs-up.
“Just use protection!” Mina reminded, forcing some questionable hand gestures and noises from Denki and Sero.
After 15 minutes of torture, the limo arrived at the five-star hotel. In a matter of seconds, Bakugou had opened the door and picked you up bridal style so he could carry you up to the room. You had all booked the penthouse, since the U.A. Festival was such a big deal. You each had your own room, but you figured you two might have free reign of the whole place for while due to Mina’s previous innuendo.
Once you arrived in Bakugou’s room, he plopped you down on the bed. Smirking at you, he removed his shirt and went to get something a bit more comfortable out of his suitcase. You couldn’t help but look at the beautiful muscles that adorned his body. It made you feel hot and a little flustered.
“Go change,” he commanded, turning around to face you again.
You chuckled and replied, “Oh, come on. You know me.”
You slipped off your leather jacket, bending forward just a bit to let him gaze at your cleavage. He licked his lips and threw down the extra shirt he had grabbed. Walking over to you, he roughly grabbed your hips and pulled your body into his.
Leaning forward, you smirked and whispered in his ear, “I already have the set on. Wanna help me get out of it?”

YJ Runaways Band AU
Tumblr media
⁃ Roy is the Sassy Boy™️ front man, lead singer
⁃ Tye is the Grumpy Boy™️ lead guitarist
⁃ Virgil is the Good Boy™️ rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist
⁃ Eduardo is the Pretty Boy™️ bassist and backup vocalist
⁃ Asami is the Quiet Girl™️ drummer. She also plays keys but they don’t really use it
⁃ Tye, Virgil, Eduardo and Asami were a garage band in high school, Eduardo was their singer
⁃ To get the gist of the kind of music they played they would cover lots of Mötley Crüe, Nirvana, KISS, Def Leppard, and Bon Jovi
⁃ Lalo got sick of singing though, no one else could sing, so they held auditions
⁃ For awhile they couldn’t find anybody
⁃ Then one day they were attending a small gig at some bar they snuck into (not to drink, Virgil made sure of that)
⁃ Luck was on their side, cause the last bands (Red Hood and the Outlaws) backup singer had an amazing voice, better than the lead in their opinions, and the band just so happened to be breaking up
⁃ Virgil and Eduardo convinced him to try them out
⁃ Roy joined them at their next jam session
⁃ They blended perfectly, and invited Roy to sing at their next gig
⁃ They got a great response from the crowd, and Roy officially joined
⁃ They ended up landing a record deal at LexLabels about a year later
⁃ It went well for awhile, until he wanted Roy to do a solo act and drop everyone else
⁃ They left, then joined S.T.A.R Records since Eduardo’s dad was pretty high up in the company
⁃ Barry Allen became their manager, and he had so many connections to companies that they easily got tons of gigs
⁃ Wayne Music Group tries to persuade and offer them more, and they’ve considered it a few times
⁃ S.T.A.R makes them sign contracts that are pretty...sketchy
⁃ Just stuff that could potentially separate them or rip them off, and they had enough of it
⁃ They finally settled with League Records, their new manager being Oliver Queen
⁃ Their tech crew consists of Jaime Reyes, Bart Allen, Cassandra Sandsmark and Brion Markov
⁃ Their rival band is Justice, consisting currently of Dick Grayson (frontman), Wally West (lead guitar), Conner Kent (guitar), Megan Morse (keyboard), Kaldur’ahm (bassist), Artemis Crock (drummer), who were also signed to the same record label
⁃ Roy’s old band mates had also become big in the business. Koriand'r had joined The Titans, and Jason had become a solo act, Red Hood
⁃ The Runaways rose to become one of the most popular rock bands
⁃ They went on tour with music legends like Dennis Prowell (the Lady Gaga of this AU), Birds of Prey (the Spice Girls of this AU), and Suicide Squad (the Slipknot or KORN of this AU)
⁃ Tye and Asami hate interviews but the others love them. They pretty much just sit there in silence
⁃ Months on the tour bus together go as well as you’d expect
⁃ One time Tye and Roy got into a fight, a guitar and a cupboard was broken
⁃ Virgil and Eduardo workout on the bus together to pass time
⁃ Eduardo always kisses a guitar pick and tosses it into the audience at the end of every set
⁃ He has the most Instagram followers, the ladies love him (and the bois)
⁃ Roy crowd surfs no matter how many times Oliver tells him not to
⁃ Virgil live-streams on the bus, it’s mostly him bugging Tye until he gets a funny reaction
⁃ The best footage he ever got on it was when Tye was just doing his hair and Virgil wouldn’t leave him alone, so Tye chased him with hairspray and a lighter through the venue
⁃ Asami gets asked a lot what it’s like being the only girl in the band and the only response she’s ever given is ‘hell’
⁃ Their fans ship Tye and Asami
⁃ 👀secret relationship maybe??
⁃ That’s a no but they find it amusing and just give vague answers when asked

RH’s singing career: the history
i tried to make this as concise and understandable as possible
so, as a child, Ren Hua’s parents owned an Enya CD that they’d sometimes listen to in the car. Enya was Ren Hua’s first singing inspiration, as she really likes her ethereal voice and she gives Ren Hua nostalgia in the present.
when she was about 6-7, she’d write her own original songs, as some kids tended to do. she mostly based off songs that she heard on the radio (not including the CD)
when she was about 12-13, she listened to a few Lady Gaga songs and she liked them. Lady Gaga went on to be Ren Hua’s second inspiration. she had also heard about Glorma at the time and became enthralled by her beauty and music. she became a big fan and began buying Glorma’s products whenever she went shopping with her parents. she even began to take singing lessons, and eventually got better and better at singing.
at about 16 (her age in Hello Neighbor), a recording studio was built at the Kuang mansion, with her parents telling her that she’s free to sing as much as she wants in there. Ren Hua also had a YouTube account at the time, but her following wasn’t very big. her only subscribers were her friends. however, when she posted her first video, which was a cover of Enya’s “Orinoco Flow” with a free-to-use orchestral instrumental version of the song (which she credited in the description). people in the comments loved her voice and encouraged her to do more covers. and so she began to post more covers.
at about 19, she began writing her own original songs (using the songs she wrote as a kid as guidelines), but was initially nervous to post them. after some reassurance and encouragement, she recorded her first original song and posted it. and to her surprise, people liked it. Rinko composed the music for Ren Hua’s songs, and the songs had an upbeat tone and was very techno (kinda like eurodance but not really). she pretty much had an online fanbase at that point.
at age 21 (her age in Hello Neighbor 3 AUs), she had her very first live performance at the high-class venue that her parents bought, but never used. a lot of people showed up and had a very fun time, and enjoyed hearing her sing. she hosted a few more live shows in the coming times.
in Hello Bloodness, when she did what she did at “that incident”, everyone that was there praised and commended her, calling her a hero for saving a life. her popularity grew evermore. even though she felt accomplishment in the moment, and yelled some things in court at Brittany, she began to feel a little weird afterwards. so much so that when she returned home and her parents tried to talk to her, she ran straight into her room and shut the door. Azra came over to the mansion shortly afterwards and she and Ren Hua did some calming exercises.
in Aftermath (i’m not actually too sure what her age at that time is), when word got out of Brittany’s death, Ren Hua began to feel ashamed of what she did (no, she didn’t kill her), because she felt it was “needlessly over the top”, “so unlike her”, and “uncalled for”. because even though she knows martial arts, she doesn’t like hurting people as badly as that, and her actions came from rage and fighting instinct. after the hallucination incident, she began going to Silent Mind Meditation Centre (Azra’s wellness centre) to rid herself of all the plaguing thoughts, and is in a slow but steady recovery. she also signed a contract with a record label, and began releasing music videos and albums of her music. also, her music has improved from becoming upbeat and techno, diving into more areas and also adding the Chinese language to it.
that’s really all there is to it at the moment. i’ll let you know if i decide to add anything else (also sorry for it being rly long)

Reflections on Authenticity: A Star is Born
Remaking a film that has been done three times before sets up a baseline challenge for a film’s success. Throw in a major actor’s directorial debut, casting a novice actor to portray the star, and you’ve got a film that is destined to either exceed its potential or completely fall apart. Thankfully, A Star is Born (2018), directed, co-written, and starring Bradley Cooper, alongside a headlining debut of Lady Gaga, delivers on many fronts - artistically, musically, and perhaps more importantly - authentically.
Singer-songwriter Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) is a world famous, hard drinkin’ country artist who is just past his prime. After a concert, he meets Ally (Lady Gaga), who is performing at a drag bar; he is instantly smitten and convinces her to spend the night talking, where he discovers that she is a talented singer-songwriter herself. The next day, he flies her out to his show, where they perform the song she shared with him the night before. This performance kicks off her singing career, as well as their fiery relationship. As Ally’s star begins to rise, Jack’s descent into alcoholism becomes more apparent; despite their shifting paths, they decide to get married. However, their troubles only intensify, culminating in a drunken and embarrassing event at an awards show that lands Jackson in rehab. He successfully goes through the program and is welcomed back by Ally, but he ultimately recognizes that his addiction will only hold her career back, so he makes a choice to end his life. Ally, devastated, performs a tribute song to her man; his star has fizzled out as hers continues to shine brightly, although a bit diminished from heartbreak.
Bradley Cooper set himself up for a double challenge in this film - directing himself in a lead role in his first directorial debut - and he rises to the occasion. His character spends the majority of the film on a spectrum of haze from being drunk or high and Cooper is able to capture this altered state, even showing the difference in his eyes; however, the heartbreak of the film wouldn’t work without his winning over the audience with his genuine heart. The performance is truly amazing, not only considering his significant amount of screen time, but also the majority of those in difficult and vulnerable scenes; he has set the stage for his future directorial career, even more notable if he can pull off this duo role additional times.
There are also stellar turns from other players, from Dave Chapelle to Sam Elliot, both who contribute to the film’s tone of being grounded in reality. More credit must be given to Cooper, who co-wrote the script and knew the story inside and out, but also has emerged as an actor’s director, understanding the language necessary to speak directly to his fellows. A highlight is the authentic interplay between Elliot and Cooper, who felt like true brothers with weighted history. Even after their falling out, when they see each other again at a loud venue, the way that Elliot’s character is conscious of Jackson’s hearing difficulties is such a small detail, but one that demonstrates the residual care and deep understanding of these siblings. Also, their final scene, where Elliot drives away after an emotional Jackson tells him a truth that was hard to say and yet means everything, the look on his face as he drives back in reverse...well, that is some good acting while operating heavy machinery.
And finally, the star of the show, Lady Gaga, a worldwide mega-star herself who must capture the journey of a nobody, rising star, and transformed diva, all in her first starring acting role. A herculean effort, but one that she pulls off with humor, strength, and vulnerability. The audience will surely be aware of her queen of pop status when entering into the theater - talented singer-songwriter with outlandish costumes (that include a meat dress), and songs with hooks that get stuck in your head for days. Lady Gaga herself has crafted her career on constructing her image and brand, clothing and making up her body with extravagant concepts and creating pop hits with a clearly studio produced sound; at the same time, she is an accomplished piano player, sings with skillful technique, and has collaborated on jazz albums with Tony Bennett - so her musical bonafides are also legit. This interplay between constructed image and underlying authenticity is at the heart of this iteration of A Star is Born, and Lady Gaga was perfectly cast, as her star persona and career is already a mixture of these two concepts.
The first time we glimpse Lady Gaga as Ally, she is performing at a drag bar, where she is dolled up on stage, performing La Vi En Rose. She catches Jackson’s attention, who is intrigued enough to visit backstage and, in an intimate moment, assists in taking off her fake eyebrows. She emerges from the dressing room as a subversion of her current star persona - she appears with no makeup, regular hair, and street clothing. Once Jackson pulls her onstage and ignites her career, Ally has transformed into the Gaga we know, with outlandish clothing and dyed hair, pop beats that overwhelm perceived musicality, and appearances on popular talk shows. Once tragedy has unfolded, we are presented with a new sophisticated Ally, singing a torch song in an elegant dress and with an orchestra, the focus of the music on her powerful voice.
These various iterations of Ally set the stage for the exploration of the theme of authenticity - what defines it, who controls it, and what is allowed within image, music, career, and love. What can be considered real? The film’s narrative posits the belief that acoustic rock is natural and that the world of pop, with its outrageous outfits, designed makeup, and vapid lyrics, are a construct and therefore not as real. Jackson clearly resents that Ally chooses that path in her career - they have the same conversation three times in the film - on the rooftop in full view of her billboard, an epic fight in the bathroom, and finally her visit to him in rehab - and each time he asserts his disappointment in her choices; only in the final conversation does she see that he won’t back down from this belief. While she defends her career and brand, she does show some early reticence about adding dancers to her act, stating “I don’t want to lose the part of myself that is talented,” implying that adding elements that contribute to spectacle takes her further from the authentic music.
And so, the question is posed - is she asserting her own personality in the pop star version of Ally? Is it an act that she is even conscious of making? When Ally is first presented on-screen, she is completely made up at the drag queen bar and Jackson’s first act is to remove her stage makeup - and they never really break out of this pattern until the end of the film. Does his death shock her out of a constructed inauthentic state - so much that in tribute to their love, she asserts a new star persona - abandoning the roles of the rock sidekick or designed pop star - and evolving into a refined singer in a beautiful dress, backed by an orchestra, and singing a torch song to the man she loved. The film seems to pass judgement on the type of career that Lady Gaga herself personifies and yet, must acknowledge that any presentation on stage is a constructed image, just as the composition of the film itself is a construction as well. Striving for authenticity is a noble task in all works of art, but what defines something as authentic? When asked in an interview for the film about whether it was scary to show her face on-screen with no makeup, Lady Gaga responded that was a representation of Ally and that she herself, as Lady Gaga, felt more authentically herself when dressed up in makeup and hair done. In the end, authenticity is a representation of one’s true nature or belief - who am I (or Jackson Maine) to question someone’s true definition of themselves - whether sans makeup or outrageously painted, expressing studio produced pop music or live acoustic ballads.
Speaking of music, the soundtrack for this film is delightful, not surprising given the talent of Lady Gaga writing the songs, but Cooper contributes to his long list of accomplishments for this film by adding his guitar, voice, and musicality to the songs. Music is integral to the dna of this film, which takes time to feature the multitude of songs, not just in clips or sequences, but sometimes highlighting an entire set piece. To justify spending that much film time, the songs must carry weight in the storytelling. For example, a song lyric that Jackson croons - “maybe it’s time to let the old ways die” - captures the story arc of Cooper’s character in a single melodic expression; he is the old, Ally is the new, and the song is almost a predictive, mournful lament to his future. The variety of the soundtrack is also notable, tracking the various stages of Ally’s persona and career - demonstrating the talent of Gaga’s ability to craft songs that serve story and character, but also that can be listened to and enjoyed on their own merits.
Another aspect of the film that shows a thoughtfulness of direction was the use of light, adding a layer of commentary on character to the scenes. For example, the beginning of the film shows Jackson performing a concert while high and the bright, blurry lights and constant camera movement captures that feeling and invites the audience to (almost) share that experience. After he returns from rehab and enters his dark house, a sign that reads La Vi En Rose turns on and floods his empty house with red light and a burst of Ally’s energy and spirit, a touch that reminds the character and the viewer of the beginning of this couple’s journey. Additionally, when he is settling into the house, sober and playing with the dog as Ally watches from afar - this is literally the most pure that he’s been and the light shows that quality; it is warm and golden and shines bright, almost taking over the entire frame with its radiance, but only for a moment, which parallels his character’s trajectory. Pure in that moment, but winking out soon, for when the camera returns to the house later, flooded with the police’s flashing red and blue lights, interplaying hauntingly with the red sign in the house, the audience knows that this light means death.
The bookends of the film show the crossing of the two people’s careers, life, and energy. At the beginning of the film, Jackson invites Ally to attend one of his concerts, and he sends her a car to pick her up; here, he has the power in the relationship, but by the end, she is the one with the concert, she offers to send a car, she has the complete power in the dynamic. The narrative is truly one of his star falling and hers rising.
The final conclusion to Jackson’s fall from stardom is a heartbreaking one, pushed by a music executive that is selfishly concerned with his pop star’s career rather than a human being’s fragility. Tragically, rock stars too often live the story that is dramatized by Jackson’s character - extremely talented, leaning into the rockstar lifestyle, only to flame out from drugs. For Jackson, addiction is a powerful disease and the chances of relapse could be high; he is vulnerable and listens to a voice that expresses all his fears out loud, internalizes that message, and then makes his decision. At the same time, it is infuriating that this person (who has dragged down multiple people he loves), who put in some work and had been making amends with those people, to be so completely in a vulnerable place and to be thrown down by a ruthless stranger was heartbreaking to watch. Because you want to root for people. But old habits die hard. And he really did love her and want the best for her and so decided to take his potential destructive behavior out of the equation so she could go on to better heights than he could ever have achieved.
This film may be the fourth remake and may be telling a familiar story about artists rising and falling, but ultimately, it is about the journey of that story, the music that is created, the moments that are captured, and the chemistry of the players. A Star is Born, 2018 edition, captures the essence of these characters, highlights the stellar music, and delivers a heartbreaking ending that leaves viewers thinking about the question of authenticity in art, love, and oneself.

The Big Read – Lewis Capaldi: “I make jokes because I’m comfortable with who I am”
The breakout star of 2019, Lewis Capaldi has the midas touch and the world at his feet – but he still likes talking about his pubes and dreams of meeting a girl who'll break his heart for real. NME Deputy Editor Dan Stubbs meets the cocksure 23-year-old in Dublin for a Buckfast sesh and quickly discovers a legitimately hilarious talent who's far from the “big fucking annoying cunt” he thinks he is.
Lewis Capaldi is miming a range of sporting activities. He bounces an invisible basketball around the stage. He boots an imaginary football into the crowd. And after some minutes of this, he poses with an imaginary dart in his hand. Every time he mimes pulling back to throw it, he changes his mind and walks over to take a sip of Guinness instead – to the delight of the crowd. When he finally throws the thing, they roar with approval, before goading him into downing the rest of his pint. And of course: he does.
It’s November 21 at the Olympia Theatre, Dublin. So far Capaldi has spent 10 minutes playing three songs and 15 minutes doing what, in the most affectionate terms, can only be described as dicking about. It shouldn’t be this funny to watch, but it really is. And the price of witnessing this spectacle? Depends when you got your tickets. A tout offered to take NME’s off our hands for €500 outside the venue.
A year ago this may have sounded like madness, a sign that the world was heading to hell in a handcart and we’d be closing out the decade in a post-apocalyptic new reality, eating boot leather and watching jesters for entertainment. But in 2019, Lewis Capaldi has proved, conclusively, that what the world was waiting for was a pasty-faced, pasty-loving, 23-year-old Scot with an act that’s 50 percent heartbroken balladry and 50 percent improv comedy. And it is a worldwide thing – Capaldi is a global hit, a bona fide phenomenon. A superstar whose first encounter with NME is backstage, hurtling along the corridor clutching a handful of items. “Got my passport, my acid reflux tablets and my water – and that’s all I need!” he says, whizzing past. “And now, I’m off for a small pish.”
When listing Capaldi’s many 2019 achievements, they start to lose meaning, like contemplating distances in space, or making sense of the costings in the Labour manifesto. But here are a few: The Brits’ Critics Choice award. A Number One album with ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’. A Number One single with ‘Someone You Loved’ in much of Europe, the US and the UK, where it spent seven weeks at the top. The hardest touring artist of the year, playing over 250 shows. A scene-stealing Glastonbury appearance.
If you’re to believe the stories in the Scottish tabloid press, Capaldi’s music can practically cure leprosy. He’s even had a beef with Noel Gallagher, once a mark of honour, but now a tussle with adversary so easily shot down it’s a bit like watching the moment someone first beats their dad in an arm wrestle.
Yesterday brought news that Capaldi been nominated for Best Song at The Grammys, which in early career terms is the equivalent of being up for the Best Actor Oscar for your school production of Macbeth. “I’m up against Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Lizzo, H.E.R., Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift…” he says. So he’s in there representing the men? “Yes, at long last!” he jokes. “At long last, straight white men finally have representation.”
“If I’m being honest, I did think ‘Old Town Road’ would be nominated,” he says, being serious now. “Maybe if I win I’ll Kanye myself. ‘This should have gone to ‘Old Town Road’! (But I am going to keep it)…’”
Capaldi is an expert at shrugging off his achievements. His unfaltering humility is a huge part of his appeal but even he concedes it’s starting to seem a bit forced. “When I read my interviews back, I always think if I wasn’t me I’d think: ‘you’re full of shite’,” he says. “Like, stop saying you can’t believe it. You can believe it! But it is so surreal and it seems like almost quarterly it kicks up a notch. Like, yesterday with the Grammys, yet again all this shit’s getting more and more mental, more beyond belief.”
Capaldi watched the Grammy nominations on his laptop, which was resting on his chest with the screen close to his face – a set-up he describes as his “home cinema” – and he admits he did get properly excited at the news. Mostly, though, he tends to find himself reacting to things how he thinks he should.
“I’ve got a very bad way of being like, So you’re supposed to feel this way in this moment,” he says. Like when someone passes away? “Exactly, yeah. Like, four months after my grandma passed away, I’m like, ‘Fuck, my grandma’s died,’ and I’m in Somerfield or something. I mean, not in Somerfield, because it’s not been open for fucking years.”
Capaldi even plays down the success of ‘Someone You Loved’, the song that scored him the Grammy nod. In his eyes, it’s just “one of my songs that’s doing a little bit better than the rest”, but it’s already become a popular standard to sit alongside Robbie Williams’s ‘Angels’ or Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’, one of those tracks that will be soundtracking marriages and burials for years to come. Which of those would he prefer it be used for? “Burials,” he says, with no hesitation. “Don’t start falling in love to my fucking music, right? See if I see people kissing at my shows, fucking stop that! These are sad songs, you bastards.”
Like Lewis himself, a large part of the charm of ‘Someone You Loved’ is its absolute universality, which is not to say it’s banal, more that everyone who has lost someone at some point in their lives – which is most of us – can identify with it. For Lewis, it was the aforementioned loss of his grandmother that proved the catalyst for the song, but he made it more open to romantic interpretation because it felt “too morbid” to write explicitly about.
And it didn’t come easily. Where other songwriters boast about dashing off huge hits in barely the time it takes to play them, Capaldi admits to labouring over his compositions. Writing songs, he says, is “a massive pain in the fucking arse sometimes”.
“Growing up I read interviews with people like Paul Weller, Paul McCartney – all the Pauls – and they’d say the best songs just sort of fall in your lap,” he says. “After six months at the piano writing ‘Someone You Loved’ I’m like, ‘You fucking lying bastards, that’s taken me fucking ages.’”
Many of Capaldi’s songs, which he endearingly describes as ranging from “big piano ballads to bigger piano ballads” draw on his first major relationship which – you may have guessed – is no longer a going concern. But it wasn’t a dramatic event. “Adele wrote her album about a relationship breaking up in a bad way, being jilted I think,” he says. “I wrote mine about a relationship that just ended, just fizzled out. I’d love to be jilted by someone, then I could be as successful as Adele.”
I ask if he worries that – at 23 – he doesn’t have a great deal of life experience to draw on. “I spent my entire life writing this first album,” he says, “but the stuff I’ve experienced in the last year has been much more of a growing experience than living in my mum and dad’s house in fucking West Lothian.”
How about the fact that his next girlfriend, whoever she may be, will be on different terms, it being impossible for her not to know she’s dating Lewis Capaldi the world famous pop star? “Well, I don’t know. It’s not like I’m Justin Bieber,” he says. “Today was the first time I’ve ever got out of the car at a venue and someone screamed. Normally people just shout something at me that I’ve said on Instagram about my pubes. I guess, at worst, my next partner would think I’m one way because they’ll hear the songs and think I seem very nice and level headed, but then find out I’m not.”
What’s the reality?
“Big fucking annoying cunt.”
It’s slightly unfair to question the depth of Capaldi’s life experience, because at the age most of us were familiarising ourselves with yo-yos, pogs or fidget spinners (delete as appropriate), Lewis was embarking on his music career. He began performing at 11, largely in pubs and clubs in the conurbation between Glasgow and Edinburgh where he grew up. The experience of having to hold his own in intimidating spaces at such a young age probably explains much about his easiness around people.
“I found that at 11 it was, ‘Oh he’s quite cute, he came and stood up here and he’s doing very well.’ When I got to 14, 15 and my voice changed and I lost any remnants of cuteness – which as you can tell have not returned to me – that’s when I started to pick up a bit of the patter. You get to know your way about how to speak to people.”
Around that time, Capaldi actively worked on changing his vocal style to something more like the wolfy howl we hear today. What was once a ”high and smooth” voice had broken. Inspired by Paolo Nutini and Joe Cocker, Capaldi added some gravel. “I thought it would be a good idea to put a bit of rasp in, to make it sound even more terrible,” he says.
For years we’ve been force-fed sensitive young men-next-door with beanie hats, beards or lumberjack shirts singing to us about their problems. In a quest for authenticity, they’ve presented themselves as troubled, serious souls. Capaldi, meanwhile, has given us the sensitive songs with a side order of toilet humour and the kind of prolific, creative swearing worthy of The Thick Of It‘s Malcolm Tucker, as played by his distant cousin Peter Capaldi.
Stand-up comedians often make a point of referring to the most funny-looking thing about themselves as an icebreaker with the audience, a way of getting them on side. Capaldi has the same trick – there’s not a single thing about his looks or his music you could say that he hasn’t beaten you to. Try and come up something better than saying he looks like “a melting hippo”, we dare you.
He has zero pretence – he’s a guy who can literally piss himself on stage and laugh it off. “That only happened once,” he says. “And I’ve always been like that, even back in school. If I was meeting someone for the first time I’d be like, ‘Hello, how are you? I’ve got diarrhoea and I could spew or I could blow at any moment. It puts me at ease, being honest.’”
“People think I make jokes because I’m uncomfortable,” he adds. “Actually, it’s the opposite – I make jokes because I’m comfortable with who I am. I say that I’m a chubby bastard because I am a chubby bastard.”
I put it to him that, possibly, he may be the first body-positive male icon – an important thing given Capaldi is part of a generation of young men who feel under enormous pressure to have an Insta-chiselled body. “I don’t know if I can accept that, because I probably don’t use the correct vernacular,” he says. “It’s probably not good to call yourself a chubby cunt, but it’s never been something that’s bothered me. I’ve been a very slim man, I’ve been a man who’s gone to the gym, but even when I’ve done that someone calls you fat anyway, whether it’s your ma, your da, your best pal.”
Capaldi hasn’t, as of yet, had any sort of pop star makeover. He still looks like a kid who’s moved out of home for the first time and is stacking up the washing to take to mum’s. He does, however, have a personal trainer on tour and has been exercising every day. “It’s more of a mental health thing,” he says. “It gives me energy and keeps me happy. I mean, when I’m actually doing it I fucking hate it so much, but it feels better after.”
I ask how his mental health is bearing up to his new everyday reality, an extraordinary experience for anyone to process. “That’s what I think about taking the piss out of things,” he says. “I take the piss out of doing things on stage and how mental it is because you have to, because it stops you getting caught up in it. Summer last year I started having massive panic attacks. I was supposed to do Austin City Limits but I had to cancel because I was just having panic attack after panic attack, and I thought I had something seriously wrong with me, because I’m a bit of a hypochondriac. And I went and got a fucking MRI scan. But they said I was just anxious, just recalibrating to this new fucking lifestyle. So I said, right, cancel everything for three weeks, and no one gave me any shit for it.”
At showtime, the atmosphere at tonight’s gig offers a glimpse of the bubble Capaldi is living in these days. The Olympia is a grand old theatre and Capaldi could probably have sold it out 50 times over; the reaction from the crowd is something like Lewmania.
Afterwards, we head backstage again, where I’m ushered into a room containing about a dozen members of Capaldi’s family. I’m plonked on a chair right in the middle, handed a massive wine glass full of Buckfast by his cousin and grilled by his dad, a fishmonger and the very driest of wits, about my intentions for this article. He’s seriously proud of his boy, having supported him since the very beginning, even playing the supportive parent role when Lewis auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent aged 12.
The afterparty moves to a private room at a nearby pub. Lewis’s hulking great cousin – the one who brought the Buckfast – is getting the shots in. His auntie is looking on, concerned, as two girls chat him up at the same time. “He’s only a wee one,” she mutters. While his friends and family enjoy the party and a certain NME journalist accidentally smashes the first of a series of glasses, feeling the effects of downing that Buckfast in an ill-advised attempt to curry favour with the family, Lewis makes his final rounds then politely excuses himself, looking a bit hangdog about it. He has another big show tomorrow. Sad to leave your own party, you imagine.
At points in the interview, Capaldi had been making a short, forced coughing noise, which he shrugged off as nothing. But the next week, he cancels a number of shows on health grounds, having been warned by his doctor that he risks losing his voice altogether if he doesn’t take action. In the end, he plays just four more gigs of the UK leg of the tour – in London, Edinburgh and twice in Glasgow for the homecoming finale. All further activities are cancelled by management, including a follow-up NME interview, but he is sent to complete the year’s touring commitments in the States before heading home for a well-earned few days celebrating Christmas with his family, which he says typically involves plenty of booze and lots of piss-taking. If you think you’re feeling ready for the break today, spare a thought for Lewis.
Next year looks to be just as busy as this one. He is, right now, just about the most in-demand young man in the world. At some point, he’ll have to start thinking about his next album too. “I don’t know what the fuck it’s going to sound like, I don’t know what the fuck it’s going to be,” he says. “Ballads, havin’-it tunes, I don’t know. I’ve got voice notes, melodies, stuff like that, but that’s just me and an acoustic guitar.”
Considering what he said about his hypochondria, it’s likely the idea of losing his voice is weighing heavily on Capaldi’s mind. But he’s already decided there’s a backlash coming anyway. “You do get warned, as you’re coming up: ‘By the way, everyone’s gonna turn on you pretty soon’,” he says. “I guess I’m always just kind of waiting for it. I’m very doomsday. Like, if it’s not happened yet, it’s gonna come. And I can’t wait for the downfall!”
He might be surprised. People have plenty of different reactions to Capaldi’s music, but it’s pretty much impossible to find someone who doesn’t think he seems like a bloody great bloke.
And besides – if he ever finds he can’t sing, he’d make a killing at The Fringe as a physical comic.

“Oh my god, are we late?” You asked your manager slash best friend, who was sitting beside you, softly squeezing her knee in worry.
“Don’t worry, (Y/N). It’s normal to arrive at this time, Gaga hasn’t even arrived yet.” She reassured, holding your hand in comfort.
“Holy shit, holy shit, holy shiiit,” You babbled, feeling an entire zoo fill up in your stomach.
It was your first time getting nominated for an Oscar, for Best Actress, if I may add, hell, it was even your first time at the Oscars.
Sure, you went to some award shows and premieres, but this was the first ever major event you’ve ever been to, it was the Oscars, for crying out loud.
You continued to bounce your knee in anticipation, just waiting for the car to pull up at the Dolby Theatre.
“What if I fuck it up? Oh my god,” You fretted, immediately burying your face in your hands.
“Hey, hey, hey,” Your manager whispered, pulling your hands away from your face, “I’ll be here to guide you all throughout, I’m your manager for a reason.”
“Okay, all right,” You exhaled slowly, trying to calm your nerves.
Slowly arriving at the Theatre, your manager, tapped your knee, “All right, here we go.”
After some guy in a black suit opened the car door, your manager stepped out first before offering her hand to you, helping you out of the car.
As you stepped out, she helped fix and adjust your very long custom Paolo Sebastian white gown that had a cape.
Afterwards, your manager went to your side and began walking towards the red carpet, you following her.
Immediately being blinded by all the lights and the cameras, you already heard some people shouting your name. It was so surreal.
“(Y/N), over here!”
“Give us a pose, (Y/N)!”
“(Y/N), look!”
Even though you were extremely nervous and overwhelmed, because there were so many stars literally in the same area as you, you still kept your composure and kept calm.
After being called over by Ryan Seacrest and some other hosts you were familiar with, your manager continued to guide you through the venue.
As you were walking down the painfully long red carpet, you immediately spotted a familiar head of grey curls that caught your attention.
“Holy shit, is that Brian May and Roger Taylor?” You grabbed your manager’s arm, stopping her.
Squinting your eyes to get a better view, you confirmed that it was indeed, Brian May, with some other men.
Immediately wailing your arms around in excitement, you squealed, your manager shaking her head, laughing, “Just go, (Y/N).”
Without hesitation, you pulled your skirt up, and since you were wearing heels, running was not an option so you just started to fast walk towards the group.
Your manager chuckled, immediately following you, making sure you didn’t trip.
She knew how much you loved Queen and their new movie, Bohemian Rhapsody.
Like, right now, she just witnessed you completely bypass Bradley Cooper, who was about to greet you but then you didn’t even notice him as you were too excited to meet the rock legends.
She would have to remind you to apologize to him later on.
Approaching the group, one of them had already spotted you so they had already turned to you.
“Oh my goodness, hello,” You smiled at each and every one of them, “I love love loved the movie!” You beamed.
“I’m happy to hear that, love, Congratulations on the nomination,” Brian shook your hand, giving you a smile.
“We hope you win tonight,” Roger added, immediately sending you a wink.
You laughed, a bit nervously, tucking your hair behind your ear, “We’ll see about that.”
“All right, everybody, we’re gonna go now, have to set up for the opening and everything,” Brian said before waving goodbye to all of you, leaving you with the four men.
“You guys were incredible! I mean, all of you absolutely embodied each character,” You complimented them, before they thanked you.
As you all were talking about random things and them congratulating you for the nomination, you were particularly taken with Joe, the guy who played Deacy, your all-time favorite Queen member.
You knew him from Jurassic Park, of course, and his other movie that you absolutely loved, which was Undrafted.
So, let’s just say, you’re kind of. . . attracted to. . .him his acting ever since.
After taking a picture with the four of them, you immediately positioning yourself beside Joe, for certain reasons, you felt your manager nudge you on your side, you immediately felt your heart sink.
“Oh, sorry guys, I have to go now,” You pouted, “I’ll see you all inside, yeah?”
They all said their goodbyes, each one giving you a hug for good luck, but probably lingering a bit longer for Joe.
You waved at them before walking away towards inside the theatre, “We hope you win!” You heard Joe shout from behind, immediately making you laugh and feel your heart being lifted.
“I noticed that mozzarella guy literally staring at you with heart eyes the whole damn time,” Your manager smiled smugly, nudging your arm.
You rolled your eyes playfully, “First of all, it’s Mazzello, second of all, he was not, okay?”
“Alright, whatever you say,” She sang, continuing to lead you inside the theatre.
Finally seeing your favorite band of all time perform live at the opening, it was nothing like you’ve ever experienced.
As they were playing, you were full on standing throughout ‘We Will Rock You’, just singing out the words you knew so well.
You maybe even shed a few tears when you saw Freddie appear on the big screen behind them.
But, eventually, the moment you’ve been dreading for was fast approaching.
“Glenn Close. . .The Wife.”
“Lady Gaga. . .A Star is Born.”
“(Y/N) (L/N). . .(Movie Name).”
“And the Oscar goes to. . .”
You swore you felt your heart climbing your throat.
“(Y/N) (L/N).”
And your whole world just completely stopped. Your manager was hugging you, jumping in her seat, your co-stars were kissing your cheek, and hugging you.
As you walked up the stairs to the stage, one of presenters lending you his hand to help you up, you felt your heart beating faster at each step.
After hugging each of the presenters and receiving the golden statue, you went towards the microphone and started,
“How did this happen?” You said into the microphone, the audience immediately erupting in laughter.
You genuinely thought you wouldn’t win, especially alongside these amazing actresses, so you actually did not have a speech prepared.
But, you managed to get some words out, despite the nervousness, it consisted of you thanking some people, especially your manager, who has been by your side all your career, and fangirling over Lady Gaga, who was seated right up front.
Eventually, the show came to an end, but you still had to go over to the Engraving Station to have your name engraved on the statue.
As you sat down on one of the seats, watching as the person was engraving your award, you felt a presence beside you.
“(Y/N), hi,” You turned around, to see none other than Joe Mazzello himself, and felt your heart jump.
“Oh my god, hi Joe,” You smiled, immediately pulling him into a warm hug in which you definitely felt some sort of electricity that sent your heart beating faster.
As both of you were hugging, you swore you saw Gwilym, Ben, and Allen in the back, snickering and pointing towards you two.
After you pulled away, Joe sent you one of his soft smiles, “Congratulations, on the award.”
After thanking him, he added, “You deserved it, you’re one of the best actresses I’ve ever seen,” He said, a blush making itself known on your cheeks.
“Oh, that’s too kind of you, Mr. Mazzello,” You laughed, trying to cover up the warmth in your cheeks.
“I really mean it,” He smiled, both hands inside his pocket, probably trying to hide the fact that they were sweaty.
You thought he was so cute so you giggled softly, before he continued, “I was wondering if. . . maybe. . . you’d wanna hang out sometime?” He looked up at you.
Just near you was your manager, whom you could already hear her screaming in her head for you to just say yes.
“I’d love to,” You smiled, him immediately lighting up and grinning at your answer.
“All right! I’ll just message you on Instagram, is that okay?” He asked, before you nodded, “That’s perfectly fine!”
After saying your goodbyes to each other, your manager immediately ran to you side, “Oh, honey,” She drawled.
“Not only did you win a fucking Oscar, but you also won a boyfriend.”

Tumblr media
On day two of our escapade with @april-lilies we were luckier. First we went to visual kei bar Zin in Kabukicho. At first we were the only customers that night and the bartender just put on a DVD of Janne Da Arc. I told him I’m a Janner and Team ABC, so after we finished watching the main part of DVD (it was Janne’s Dearly live from 2005), he was playing Acid Black Cherry’s music only. We had a couple of drinks there and talked a lot, since it was a very chill place.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later we went to kobini for sweet snacks and finally switched venues, going to Gold Finger, a ladie’s only bar in 2-chome in Shinjuku, the gay district. The bar was so small, much smaller than I expected it to be. And since it was Saturday night, already after midnight, it was super crowded. It was the first time ever for me to go to a lesbian bar, so I was kind of nervous and Lab told me it shows… Anyway, most women there seemed to know each other well and kept in small groups. There were some Caucasian girls, too, but they were just giving us secondhand embarrassment.
Tumblr media
Apparently it was also a karaoke night and it was mostly Caucasian girls, butchering most of the songs. We did sing a few, like Britney Spears’ “…Baby one more time” or “Oops! …I did it again”, as well as Lady Gaga’s “Bad romance” and a few songs by Queen. Some girls were nailing Japanese songs and I was so impressed. Because I can’t really speak in Japanese for shit, Lab was surrounded by pretty Japanese girls and I ended up talking to a Korean girl for most of the night. She was really nice and we exchanged Instagram accounts later. I also found out my chances would have been 100% bigger if I had blonde hair… Because as soon as two white blonde girls came in, women just lost it.
I still had fun, though! We stayed till they were closing the bar, last 20 minutes or so spending on tiny ass pouf, Lab’s legs on my lap since otherwise she would be super uncomfortable. Even though I got a lot of drinks I didn’t really get terribly drunk. Only my voice was super hoarse thanks to AC, I guess.
We waited in the nearby park till it became bright outside and trains started running. When I finally came back home it was around 6am and I wasn’t sleepy at all. Which was bad, because on that day, in a few hours, I was leaving for a live already. But I will write about it in a next post!
Bonus:
I’m smol even in 6cm platform sheos (and after a few drinks on this pic).

what are some songs, albums, or artists that you have a strong attachment to?
AHHhHHH omg this is a loaded question because I can go on forever for music (and also thank you for sending me a message that isn’t about lingerie or my face lmao)!!!! I’m going to include some links because I love to be able to share music with people! These are in no particular order – just in order of me thinking about them.
Hollow Knight soundtrack. Christopher Larkin did an AMAZING job composing this soundtrack – and the game is amazing as well (one of the few games, in addition to Shadow of the Colossus, that makes me cry when I think about the ending). My favorite track on it is City of Tears. Check it out!
A lot of the songs and instrumental pieces from the original 1990′s Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon was my dang childhood and inspired me in a lot of things. Some of my favorite tracks:
Instrumental: Princess no tame ni…, Sailor Uranus and Neptune theme, sadness, otome kokoro, holy grail, eternal no ai
Songs: Moon Revenge, Kaze mo sora mo, kitto, Moonlight Densetsu, Senshi no Omoi, Ai dake ga dekiru koto, Ai no Senshi,
Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. The first time I heard this song, I was 18 and working my part-time job in a cutlery shop at the mall. Manager let me listen to whatever music I wanted when I did the store openings on the weekend, so I’d always listen to the classical music station. This piece came on and I was so moved that I sped home to download it on Napster and then find a physical copy of it on CD at Tower Records so I could listen to it on repeat for a month.
Marina & the Diamonds “Electra Heart” album. This got me through a particularly bad breakup and I listened to it several times a day. I loved her entire concept for the album and all the art that went into the promotional videos for it. I have a few characters on WoW that are Marina references. Some of my favorite tracks are: Starring Role, Valley of the Dolls, Fear and Loathing, Radioactive … I’m pretty sure at least 10% of my tumblr posts in 2012/13 were Marina-inspired. Such a good era.
The Beatles Eleanor Rigby. I grew up a Beatles fan because my mom was – she had all the vinyls, a bunch of memorabilia.. etc. Something about this song (And the entire Revolver album) gets to me.
WHAM! Last Christmas and Aqua’s Barbie Girl – these are two songs that I have always, and will always, sing my heart out at karaoke.
Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster album. I’m pretty sure that I did a million views alone on that Bad Romance song. Still one of my all-time favorites. Her Born This Way album means a lot to me too, because I listened to it a lot in Mists of Pandaria and that’s probably when I had the most fun w/ my friends and guldies in that game.
Mew - Repeaterbeater is probably one of my top songs from them. My ex (with whom I am still best of friends) introduced me to the band when we started dating in 2009 and like, I felt like I had missed out on life by not hearing of this amazing Danish band til then. I have about 20 CDs/albums from them – a lot of overseas limited prints and hard to find stuff. I really adore this band, and missing their show in SF due to the stomach flu in 2010(?iirc) is one of my biggest regrets. Comforting Sounds, Apocalypso, Am I Wry? No, and Satellites are also in my top songs from them.
The band 30 Seconds to Mars (at least, their A Beautiful Lie) holds a place in my heart because I listened to this a lot during my emo years and played this album a lot while PVPing in Lineage2 and also to and from classes. I’ve probably seen this band the most live – in two different countries as well! I have heard some problematic things about Jared Leto in the past few years that has kind of tarnished my love for the music, but it’s still an album that evokes a lot of emotion for me.
Poe - Haunted. She was one of the first performers I saw at a small venue for the 21+ crowd at a bar up in Orangevale (called The Boardwalk). I thought she was so cool, and bought her most recent album when we saw her. A lot of people may recognize her Hey Pretty song though. (Side note, first ever concert I attended was the Family Values Tour in 2001 w/ my friends in high school –  Stone Temple Pilots, Linkin Park, Puddle of Mudd, Staind, Static-X, and Deadsy played.)
Honestly, anything by Patrick Wolf. LOVE HIM. Such a talented musician. Reminds me of one of my closest friends who introduced me to his music. One of my favorite songs by him is Hard Times. His acoustic album Sundark and Riverlight was also amazing, as was the version of The Libertine from it!
Röyksopp - What Else is There? Karin Dreijer Andersson (The Knife/Fever Ray) has haunting vocals and it pairs so well w/ the music. I pretty much love most of Röyksopp’s stuff, but this song in particular reminds me of a friend I lost contact w/ over a decade ago.
Kings of Convenience - I’d Rather Dance with You. I’m sorry, but this is probably one of the best songs of all time. And, yes, this song was one of autoplay songs on my Myspace forever ago, lmao. Erlend Øye is literally so cool and you will never be as cool as him ok?
Mystery Skulls - Ghost. Man oh man. I remember listening to this on repeat while raiding cuz I was being emo over some guy LMAOOO. But I still really love this song, and the band is awesome as well! I’ve gotten a few of my friends (and my mom!!) into Mystery Skulls! Also — I’M PRETTY SURE ONE OF MY FRIENDS HERE ON TUMBLR WAS THE ONE WHO LINKED ME THIS SONG AND TOLD ME TO CHEER UP.
Deadmau5 - Ghosts n Stuff  2009 was a really good year for me personally, and also a lot of great music was filling my ears that year, including the For Lack of a Better Name album with this track on it. I love Pendulum, so having Rob Swire pair up on this track w/ Deadmau5, to me, was AHHHHmazing.
Janet Jackson - Velvet Rope. A really great song and it had a lot of personal meaning to me back in high school / college. I have always been a huge Janet fan and this came from one of my favorite albums of hers.
Gotye - Heart’s a Mess. I know a lot of people associate him with the popular track Somebody That I Used to Know w/ Kimbra, it’s a great track, don’t get me wrong, but this song is my favorite from him. Another song I listened to frequently through a breakup. I love Gotye’s very Peter Gabriel-esque vocals.
I could actually keep writing for like…. another hour but I will save you guys that and just end it here. Let’s just say I am a VERY auditory person

knk in london recap !! (aka a mess on my part)
i’ll skip over the morning/day part because it was basically just sitting on a cold floor for 7 hours on and off until we got let in but as the queue for the venue was opposite where the stage door was we saw the boys come and go for the special events and they kept waving at us :(
but okay idk how to even write this lol OKAY SO CONCERT this will be long
so idk how the floor looked because i was on the balcony and i will saw the plus of that was 1. no one in my way and 2. got barrier of the balcony because there weren’t many of us who decided to pay the more expensive of the tickets lol but also i was the only one on the balcony who had the lightstick from the makestar campaign and that piece of light up plastic i thank for everything that event because i sob i can’t do emojis on my laptop imagine the crying emoji like 438728 times
but they came out and i just. my friend had to ask me if i was okay because i don’t think i moved for a good bit because i was just like ??????? my boys ?????? are there ????????? the ones who i owe my life and money to ??????? RIGHT THERE ??????????/ i can’t even remember what order the setlist was uh it was a song. i know they done we are the one towards the start because i was a bit thrown off and only started filming it half way through the first chorus because i was just like ????? and i adore that song so much so i’m just so thankful to just hear it live and hear them live and i want to cry
then more songs this is the worst recap i can’t even remember order anyway then they done their introductions and T_T they tried to speak so much english to us and they done so well i just kept tearing up because i love them so much and appreciate them so much and how hard they were making the effort to talk to us without the translator and seoham !!! spoke so much english that boy is just a whole angel i’ll get onto that in a second. okay so me being the ONLY TINK WITH A LIGHTSTICK THAT WAS LIKE. A BEAM ON ME BECAUSE ALL OF THEM KEPT NOTICING ME BECAUSE OF THAT LIGHT UP PINK PIECE OF WONDERFUL PLASTIC and i just. seoham and dongwon noticed me the most they sent so many hearts and waved so much and just kept looking towards us on the balcony and i’m going to start criyng remembering this okay who’s idea was it to ask me to write this it’s a mess.
cue more songs i remember when rain started everything had a like collective sob/cry because last youjin song we miss him i miss him but yes rain was amazing every song was amazing but it’s knk that is to be expected. they had more like talky bits and they each like sung/rapped little songs. heejun mentioned how inseong recently was on masked singer and we all screamed inseong got shy but sung the song he sung (i forgot what it is okay) and then it got to seoham and he wanted to sing a very british song and asked us what is a british song. my forced to watch football throughout my youth instantly thought sing vindaloo and turn the entire venue suddenly into an england match but then realised he would not know that buT THEN HE STARTED SINGING HEDWIG’S THEME AKA THE HARRY POTTER THEME SONG and we all just collectively became potterheads for a good 2 minutes it was great. they then sung more songs. someone decided to sing propose then angel heart ??? like i didn’t cry enough anyway then oh at some point during the translator translating stuff she forgot what they said and was just like quickly summing something up and the boys noticed and were like no !!!!! we didn’t say that !!!! it was funny we all laughed but she done well whoever you are translator lady
they done u. aka one of my favourite songs. also seeing their footwork from above !!!! perfect. i also briefly lost my voice screaming the u parts in it i sounded like a frog i hope it wasn’t picked up on my video i haven’t watched it yet lol and yes oh yeah when they sung lonely night i told my friend because tbh she wasn’t a huge tink she just liked them and let me scream to her about knk for the past 2 years and i was just like right all i ask from you tonight is to scream i love you too after inseong does his oh i hate that i love you and idk if she did ngl i was too busy screaming it too kjsfhd and a girl we were near is heej biased and she screamed heejun i love you and he said it back to her anD SHE THREW HERSELF BACKWARDS like not even gracefully just went for it towards the floor she was gone because of 4 words tbh would’ve been me if i had the courage to yell to jihun what i wanted to yell but i was SCARED
then fade happened. they changed the choreo from the practice videos they posted on instagram. i’m not one who like faints over that type of choreo but a girl near me actually like collapsed at heejun it was funny but the choreo is just so lovely and the song in general is a pure masterpiece i think it’s becoming my favourite knk song (sorry i know) like i may have just been listening to it on repeat since s/sc was released lol but ugh that song i forgot they would perform it gdjfshkd i heard the heavy breathing at the start of the song and was like OH. FADE. and yes then choreo happened. the boys done good. then cue more songs and then it ended :((((( but i’ll talk about interactions okay
SO wait i’ve mentioned my ligthstick okay well bright official lightstock + knk noticing = me sobbing. i’m also not like. too eye contacty with people kjfhg but my god i swear i made eye contact with them like. a good 983745938 times that evening i just i love them so much ???? like i think because i was the only one up there who had anything bright dfkghks they just looked at me first and my heart hurts thinking about this okay so seoham is just. a pure angel ? like that boy ??? he literally always was looking up at the balcony at us and made sure we all like weren’t ignored just because we weren’t on the floor kfjghsk literally the about of times he looked at me and i just panic waved my lightstick. dongwon too at the end he blew a kiss at me and ngl. i felt my legs go a little. jihun also looked at me right in the eyes and i LITERALLY DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO I JUST AWKWARDLY SMILED BECAUSE WHAT WAS I TO DO WHEN MY ULT LOOKS AT ME DEAD IN THE EYES I DON’T KNOW I JUST WAVED MY LIGHTSTICK AND SMILED AND THEN DIED. inseong didn’t look up that much but when he did he like made sure to look at us all he was so sweet :( and then when they were taking the crowd photos heejun had the cheek to look directly at me and point the microphone at me when he asked us if we were ready like please don’T JUST LOOK AT ME I PANIC
okay hi touch.
if anyone saw my post from the other night then well yes this is true but i remember a little bit more but anyway i can’t even remember the order they were stood in i think it was dongwon > seoham > heejun > jihun > inseong ?? i know heej and jihun were 3rd and 4th i just blanked ngl but i do remember seoham and HIS SMILE i sob he smiled so bright when i said thank you and he said thank you back and held my hand as he high fived me and i want to CRY i can’t even remember dongwon or inseong I FEEL AWFUL IT WAS A BLUR (blame heejun) and all i remember of jihun was his hand ? like me making sure to not miss it out of nerves gkjdshfhj i don’t think i even looked at him in the eyes oh god  but heejun, oh heejun. i’ve had the biggest soft spot for heejun since i got into knk but regarding my post i remember nothing but being surprised at how big that boy’s skull is. like i knew he had a bigger head than the others and i know people have said his head is bigger irl but i was caught off guard hence not remembering anything else but he’s just so stunning in person??? and also smaller than i thought. idk if it was because i am already 10cm shorter than him in general and that i was wearing like 2 inch tall boots but he wasn’t that much taller than me and in general they all seemed not as tall as i expected ??? i guess idk it could just be because i’m already considered above average height so i didn’t have that drastic of a height difference to them fskjhd hhmm but yes they are all just. stunning. beautiful. amazing. talented. pretend i’m quoting that lady gaga meme that idk what she says but i see it around.
BUT YES then i got back to the hotel kinda couldn’t walk properly as my legs were all jelly like but they were just pure angels and kept mentioning like every 5 minutes that it was their 2nd time in london like yes i love you all but we get it. 2nd time in london.
and yes then i woke up the next morning and just laid in bed and cried a good bit because of everything i love them so much thank you for reading my mess

Concerts
pairing: avengers x reader
summary: what concert you would go to with your avenger boo
warnings: none
Bucky: Despite the fact that the both of you weren't a huge fan of crowds, concerts had an atmosphere that you were drawn to. So the middle grounds that Bucky agreed upon were going to a small concert that wouldn't have a bunch of people he would have to worry about. The Lumineers were still playing smaller venues on their Cleopatra tour, and you adore their music so when they came to a little venue near the Avengers Compound, it was a set date for you and Bucky. It turned out to be one of the greatest nights that you had as a couple, and the local beer was something of the gods. Being in his arms, swaying to the music with the cool sea breeze blowing through your hair and his too, was something you replayed in your mind for the rest of your life.
Steve: Since he was frozen for so long, you made a point of introducing him to everything possible and making sure he got the full gist of your favorite things. This included the amazing tour that p!nk was putting on at the time, and seeing her acrobatics live was something you had wanted to do for a while. So when she was in New York, you stole Tony’s credit card and got the VIP tickets. Steve was more than amazed when she was swinging and doing trapeze over both of your heads, and he quickly fell in love with the lyrics that she belted out all night. Steve loved strong women, so it’s easy to say he had a great time, and secretly bought tickets to see her all over the country.
Natasha: Since the two of you loved to travel down south whenever the snow got to be a little too much in New York, you found concerts in small venues to be a great thing to do in Nashville. While there, you found out about this duo that had as much love in them as you did for Natasha. Johnnyswim had the soft music that had love in its roots, and amazing people at their concerts. Natasha loved to be able to relax and have a drink in public, so the little venues and the calm crowd that johnnyswim attracted allowed her to do that. All she wanted was to hold you in her arms and kiss your cheek without anyone bothering the two of you.
Thor: Bringing him in public was a bit of a hard task since he’s pretty large and hard to miss. Even getting him to wear regular jeans and a sweatshirt was hard, since he was most comfortable in his asgardian warrior clothes. Luckily, he loved any kind of music that you played, so you brought him to the most outrageous concert you could think of. Lady Gaga was playing in New York, and you made sure to get front row tickets. With all of the costumes and glamour in the lobby, no one even batted an eye at the two of you walking in through the front doors. For the first time, the two of you got to enjoy a fun night as a couple out on the city.
Peter: This boy knew the city like the back of his hand, so of course he knew how to sneak in to any of the concert venues that were within a couple blocks of aunt may’s apartment. Needless to say, the two of you managed to make it to almost every single concert during the summers at Brooklyn Steel. Any kind of artist that was playing, which most of the time would be indie, or even rock, the two of you were there. You had managed to get some actual tickets to surprise him for his birthday, and that was how the two of you ended up front row at an Alt-J concert. Peter ended up not knowing most of their songs, but you two got some good dancing going on that night, and you laughed so hard that your head hurt by the end of the concert in the best possible way.
Bruce: Since Bruce was Bruce, he wasn’t into any kind of loud noises or strobe lights, matter of fact anything about concerts was a giant risk. The hulk side of him had been in hiding for quite some time, so you figured that it was time to go to a more calm setting at an intimate gathering for a Hozier album release party. Bruce was of course a little on edge when the two of you arrived at the small venue in Brooklyn, but by the time the two of you found your seats and had a drink in your hands, all of his jitters were gone. Seeing you sing along to the softest, and most gentle songs penned by Hozier was enough for Bruce to lose all sense of fear and actually enjoy himself for the first time since before the incident. After hearing of this magical evening, Tony actually paid Hozier to play at your wedding.
Pietro: The only speed he knows is fast, and it’s no surprise that he enjoys music that can keep pace with him. When he first came to you about going to a concert together, you already knew it would be music that you weren’t too fond of, but you love him enough to make an attempt. Plus, he could run in the venue and get a good spot for the two of you. So, reluctantly you agreed to go this house music concert that you didn’t even know who was playing at. Turned out to be a festival type situation, but you ended up having a blast listening to the music that Pietro listens to during training. He had the biggest smile on his face the entire time, and danced as hard as he could.
Clint: A true oldies lover, but when he finally listened to some of the more modern rock and alternative songs, he quickly realized he needed to see these bands live. Before he even mentioned his music switch to you, he had bought tickets for various festivals around the US, and took the two of you off the avengers calendar for the month of June.
Loki: When you came home to your apartment one afternoon and found him dancing around to the beach boys, you just about passed out from confusion. Turns out he had taken it upon himself to take a walk around the block, and he had found a record player and various records to entertain himself while you were at work. You offered to take him to a concert that had cover bands that played oldies music, but he didn’t think that would be too good of an idea considering his face was still pretty recognizable. So the two of you opted to slow dance, and goofy dance around your apartment in just your underwear. It was magical, even without the tricksters little magic hands lighting up.
