Decided to make a quick list of who we have or don't have full names for so I can start speculating in my head who they're gonna give full names first of the batch based off of nothing lol
#rat rambles#oni posting#to be clear the debatable zone is just frankie's last name being seen in cut logs and marie and mi-ma Technically both being canidates for#dr.sklowdowska even tho Im like 99% sure shes just mi-ma#technically speaking we dont know for sure and given the scientist that marie's dupe quote references it is very likely that at some point#she was intended to be marie#although I firmly believe that she is mi-ma nowadays at least as well. just read everything shes involved in. her personality is being old.#ofc you could abide by my half joke hc that marie and mi-ma are the same person but dont do that because its almost certainly wrong lol#but yeah bubbles is a nickname so we dont actually know her first name and camile we only have a last initial for#but yeah all things considered we actually have quite a lot of full names in our arsenal

Canon Lily does not have any character flaws though. We can argure it is because she was never fleshed-out character on her own in the books but neither was James and we got to see his good and bad qualities.
I disagree, I think we do see flaws in Lily even though they're fairly minor, as flaws go. (And Lily is more of a minor character than James imo.) Anyway, a character flaw doesn't have to be some HUGE abjectly terrible trait or behaviour like Sev or James might have. Most humans don't have some kind of obvious massive drawback to them lmao, most people are normal and their flaws/bad qualities are a bit more subtle than 'literally being a bully' and 'literally joining a fascist group.' When I say I think all characters should have flaws I don't mean they should all secretly be assholes or evil haha. There are ways to write realistic characters who are also good and kind people.
I have a post here about what I think Lily's flaws are. But I'll also add that the flaws she's shown to have in canon are the basis for the reasons people consider her to be selfish, judgmental, a bad friend, two-faced etc. It's realistic for everyone to have moments or parts of them that are selfish or judgmental, and it's realistic for people, especially teenagers, to be imperfect friends at times. The thing is that instead of people interpreting these flaws as fairly understandable and normal in a teenage girl, they jump to the worst possible conclusions and inflate them to a ridiculous degree, with a side of blaming her for everything the men in her life did.
If Lily wasn't shown to have those flaws, people wouldn't be able to jump to them in order to villainise her. It's so weird with Lily, either people believe she's a horrible irredeemable she-devil or else she's a way too annoyingly perfect mary sue virgin mother and badly written etc. It can't be both lol. Lily has a specific role in the story because it's told through Harry's perspective. Is it that weird for an orphaned boy to idealise his dead mother? No. It's not even that weird for a non-orphaned boy to idealise his alive mother. Personally when I read Lily's scenes in DH it doesn't feel to me that she was written as perfect, she just seems like a pretty normal, if notably kind young girl with normal reactions to things.
Her reading Petunia's letter from Dumbledore and using it as ammo in an argument seems realistic. Her telling Snape that he's being ungrateful because James saved his life seems realistic. Her blowing up at James during SWM seems realistic. Her remaining friends with Snape despite his actions, and falling for James despite his, seems realistic.
Is Lily the most developed character in HP? No, of course not, but that doesn't make her that criminally underdeveloped for her purpose in the narrative imo. She's literally dead for the entire story, why would she be as developed as someone like Hermione? It's true that because of her importance to the central mystery, we don't see much of her until the end. Yes that's a shame for fans of Lily, though I also think it works well for the reader (and Harry) to realise that Lily has more importance than we'd realised. Harry identifies with James because he's a boy, it's James he goes to follow in SWM, and the logical conclusion that his mother would also be there (he even sees her and just doesnt recognise her) doesn't even occur to him until she enters the narrative herself. Even then, she's an afterthought to the way Harry's feelings about James are bound up in his own identity.
It's meant to be that way, it's realistic for it to be that way, it's good foreshadowing for the way Lily later enters the narrative in an unexpected way, but anyway, I think even what we are given about Lily is enough to construct at least a rough outline of her character if you care to.
Nobody ever complains about characters like Grindelwald or Regulus being underdeveloped lol, because they're not actually present in the story, nor are they supposed to be, despite being important to other characters. I think there's some confusion since Lily is an important character in Marauders' era, but pls let's remember that all of this stuff that we talk about on here is just background to the main story of Harry Potter. Obviously there's characters who are going to be underdeveloped if you just take them as characters on their own, and yes, since I like Lily I wish we'd seen more of her, but also it makes sense that we didn't see that much because the story isn't about the Marauders' era lol.
Personally I think people judge Lily too harshly as a character. It's not that I think everyone has to like Lily at all, but I do find the standards she's commonly held to a bit ridiculous since they're never even remotely applied to male characters. If you're only interested in angsty dark mean men that's fine, if you're only interested in the characters that have more of a presence in the narrative that's understandable, but personally I don't think there's anything wrong with the mere existence of a female character who is a good and pleasant person haha
#lily evans#and people clearly don't have an issue with male characters being perfect hence the extreme effort that goes into erasing all of their flaw#james being a sunshine boy or whatever#snape being a helpless little victim#that's all fine but god forbid a girl be a decent and normal person lol#and a female character being nice doesnt mean she's a mary sue. ppl are so weird about this.#if you want mary sues have a look at colleen hoover's protagonists lol#lily despite having 20 lines of dialogue is much better written than all of them#i think mary sues often end up being worse people than their authors intend. because the writing itself is convinced of their righteousness#replies#lily#sorry ive recently gone down a rabbit hole about colleen hoover's godawful writing haha

raising yours for slaughter
when my mother could not bear
raising me at all?
away, unknown, no crib by her bed

i may not see thirty-four either

so I was super excited for Sherlock and Co to tackle sign of four because this whole time I thought Marianna was an intentional play on Mary and that she and John might end up together? (which is kind of cute, I'm obviously always here for the gays but Sherlock and John in this show don't really seem to have that kind of chemistry). Except that for some reason there's actually a different Mary Morstan?? So my question is WHY NAME A CHARACTER WHO LIVES WITH THEM MARIANNA, MARY FOR SHORT, IF SHE'S NOT *THE* MARY
#I mean I doubt John will end up with mary morstan#seeing as she stood him up#that's probably a play on the fact that they get married in the books#I'm not against John staying single to be clear but this is such a confusing road to go down if you didn't intend to go down it in the first#place???#sherlock and co

Idk I think it's funny seeing people on twitter say things like "Christians want to tell you it's all a part of Jesus's plan until it's them!" cause like idk about you but I've had family members 100% say they're ready to meet the Lord than interfere with his plans via a Tylenol and a flu shot
#I had a cousin think she'd die from covid and actually lost her husband to it#only to say she wasn't scared of the virus because she had the blood of jesus over her#I still have family that says the blood of jesus will protect them better than any vaccine so they won't get it#I had an aunt scoff at me for taking birth control to control my endometriosis#and use my nebullizer for a severe asthma attack#and she refused to take her singular pill for her blood pressure until she literally couldn't see and her sister forced her to take it#she's in her 90's so ig it's more understandable but also she is v healthy for a 90 year old#like there are so many twitter users speaking from the outside that do not understand just how intense these christians can get#the politcians running off christian values or whatever? they just want power and money#aunt mary lou and uncle billy bob in the middle of nowhere georgia?#they'll hunt you for sport for even thinking about taking a claritin#my grandfather doesn't believe in allergies btw and apparently that's a p common boomer thing too#some believe in allergies but think if you have them you're meant to die from them as intended#it's fuckin wild out here#ex christian#religious trauma

I hate to be all like "The Child was actually the evil mastermind the whole time!!" but I have a theory that Mary lured Ib and Garry into the fabricated gallery to kill them.
She looks into the real gallery and sees a young girl, about her age, dressed similarly to her. She writes messages for her, "come to a world without any grownups", "Come Ib", "I have a secret spot to show you" and asks her to step into the fabricated world. She also sees a young man, who keeps to himself and went to the gallery unaccompanied, and whose name is 2 letters away from being the same as hers. She asks him to step in as well. If her siblings don't kill either of them, she can always do it herself. It's not that hard when the thing tethering them to life is a delicate flower.
She meets them, befriends them, and eventually ends up alone with Ib. Mary has some questions. "Is Garry your dad?", she wants to know how close Ib and Garry are; and conversely, how upset Ib would be if Garry died or vice versa. "Is your mom nice?" Mary wants to know about her potential future parents. It would suck if the family she inherited treated her poorly. "Would you leave with me or Garry?" she needs to parse if Ib is worth befriending, and once again how attached she is to Garry.
Garry finds out. And suddenly everything is in jeopardy. She can't catch them by surprise anymore, and even if she plays nice they'll never trust her again. She tries to kill Ib, but Garry is just in time to protect her and flee. The cats out of the bag, but it's not over for her yet. Because they still have to pass through her sketchbook.
Depending on the ending, she either succeeds in becoming real, or dies trying.
#I don't want to make it sound like I think marys evil or irredeemable or that she deserved to die#but I had this thought like a week ago and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it#it feels like it might've been what kouri intended?? idk#ib#ib game#ib theory#I was thinking about like. the why and how of pretty much the entire gallery#like who benefits from Ib or Garry being there and getting killed? Mary was the only answer I could think of#mary ib

"It looked like a good day for setting fence posts, and my mother said so while taking the biscuits from the oven. 'Some morning early, when I can get away, I want you to come with me along the edge of the hill in the wood-lot," she continued. "When the shadows of the trees begin to come down the slope, as the sun rises you feel the turning of the earth. You feel the whole globe under your feet rolling into the sunlight. . . . That's something I found one morning when I was driving the calves to pasture. I've been saving it up for you. I wonder if you've seen a more beautiful dawn in any of the places you've been.'
On my fingers I count the dawns I have seen--memorable, just in being dawns. Sleepy-eyed dawn from the Paris markets after a night of dancing; mist dawn against which I was just to late to see the minarets of Constantinople--all the fault of the stupid stewardess who didn't wake me in time; one startling moment of color on the hills around the Dead Sea before they went colorless in merciless heat; sudden dawn like a clap of light over the freezing-cold Syrian desert. Four dawns in twenty years. No, I do not know dawns as my mother does."
-- Rose Wilder Lane, "A Place in the Country" (1925)
#little house#rose wilder lane#laura ingalls wilder#a little house sampler#i dove into the book seriously this morning#intended to read just the first couple of pieces and kept reading 'just one more' until i've got about 2/3 read#most of laura's pieces are familiar from her farm columns#though there's a couple of early versions of little house stories that show a lot of her voice did get through there#rose's are fascinating#i can't quite wrap my head around her#sometimes she'll seem neurotic and restless and judgey and sophisticated and a bit pretentious#and then she writes some of the most beautiful nostalgic pieces#showing so much love of home and family and the simple joys of life#this piece might be my favorite so far because it grapples with those two sides#after four years as a foreign correspondent she's back at home in mansfield#and she has a new appreciation for her parents and the work they do and the life they've built#now that she's had her adventures and is no longer a restless teen looking to get away from rural poverty#even in the other pieces it's fascinating how much love of her family comes through when you know about the difficult relationships#i should share some quotes from the piece about mary when i get the chance#(also i'm very upset that she didn't write down the story of why she and her parents never read the last book in the school library)#(you don't end with a sequel hook and just leave me hanging ms. lane!)#anyway i love the whole essay that this is from and there are other worthwhile quotes#but i like how this one captures the 'noticing beauty while doing farm work' side of laura that i've come to think of as her trademark

snw season 3 theories
ok so as far as I can tell, there are two ways this could go
I am pretty convinced that Batel is going to end up on the Gorn ship. She’s immune to Gorn, and I feel like it would be sloppy writing to have such a big moment about it and not use it later.
from here though is where I split off. I would not be surprised at all if Batel sacrifices herself to save the crew. If this is the case, hopefully she at least gets some kind of respectful send off and mentions her destroyed ship. “For the Cayuga” or something.
OR she’s all prepared to sacrifice herself, and Christine finds the antidote last second and Chris goes to save her.
There are a lot of ways it could split off from there, depending if she lived or not. If Starfleet goes to war, I think Batel would end things with Chris. She’s heading home to heal up and get back out there. If they resolve the gorn issue right away (which I hope they don’t. I’m not here for the war plots, but they spent too much time on this just to wrap it up) I can see them staying together. Ew.
IDEAL SITUATION, Batel is dead (or otherwise gone!!!! Please leave Marie!!!) and Chris is drinking and in his feelings. Una comes by to talk and gives him a hug. This is more likely if Batel is dead, honestly.
I feel like Chris would just be sad and stare out the window BUT if we do get the Una hug that opens up possibilities… more intimate moments throughout the season… pikeuna slowly become aware of it… everyone else is like duh why is this even a question.
then if we want to be dramatic (please don’t) Batel shows back up, ready to try again, and Chris is torn. He is in a situation where he has to choose. He chooses Una (or not Marie, anyway), and the last scene of the season is Una and Chris having a drink together. She asks why he didn’t get back with Batel. He says something along the lines of I would rather be right here with you than with anyone else. Una gets it. She smiles. They clink glasses. I would like them to kiss but it doesn’t happen.
and then season four acts like it never happened and we take that whole season to get them to talk about their feelings too. I don’t see this resolving quickly. It has a huge climax though, they’re being shot at or something and that’s when confessions are made.
#*takes a swig of apple juice*#I’ve been in this game a long time#philinda#gave me all my trust issues#Pikeuna#una chin riley#chris pike#snw spoilers#snw#snw season 3#this got a lot longer than intended#but now that Batel wasn’t killed off season 2 finale#I feel like she has a fighting chance#Marie batel

fucking around with some design stuff and frantically making a hazbin hotel au version of opal and aleria
#not super solid on alerias design yet but im pretty content with opals#opal maxwell#aleria marie#forbiddentaako’s ocs#hazbin hotel#opal looks more like a ram bc i wanted to keep his horns but the vibes are like him being a sacrificial lamb (related to how he would die)#aleria was intended to be like a rabbit due to connections with magic and related to her ex-warlock patron#plus being related to how she would have died in the au also#aleria also wouldn't own her soul in this au but opal still has his so he would be more open to the possibility of redemption

Match Game ‘76 Episode 796 Question: Lester played a trick on his wife and switched her birth control pills with Bayer aspirin. Nine months later she gave birth to a six-pound _____.
Contestant and the rest of the panel answer headache
Fannie: Well. Let me tell you. I take this game literally. Now, when she found out what he’d done, see, she killed him, so she gave birth to an orphan.
Audience and panel dying laughing.
Gene: Now! Very good, my dear. Now I will tell you what I was laughing about over there. Because you see I proofread these things just to make sure there are no typographical errors, and a couple hours ago when I was proofreading it, they said everybody’s gonna say, “…switch your birth control pills with Bayer aspirin, and 9 months later she gave birth to a 6-pound bear.” But nobody said it!!! 😂
#RIGHT ON FANNIE#I love when she lets a little of her towanda side show through#the intended outcome of these writers sometimes I swear good gravy Marie#match game#fannie flagg#match game monologue transcriptions nobody asked for
