Alastor doesn’t know spanish to save the life of him

but what he DOES know is french, and THAT a for some reason makes more sense to him when translating that into spanish ( the world may never know why )

He doesn’t realize you SING spanish music at first

The two of you meet through Charlie, you’d wanted to get rehabilitated and she introduced you to Alastor

when you spoke to him he noticed you sounded, off almost? like you were struggling a bit to speak

he didn’t question it, brushing it off with a shrug until Charlie asked you how you died

you explain to her you had gotten killed by a fan, who was crazy in the worst way possible

cue alastor like 🤨🤨 huh???

he acts like he doesn’t overheat on the conversation and decides to keep it to himself

until crowds of people are at the hotel asking for you and now suddenly your nowhere to be seen so now he’s really suspicious like ??

he sends his shadows after you, and they tell him your hiding in a storage closet practically freaking out

charlie manages to get the crowd to leave and when you do come back your uncharacteristically quiet

it’s then Alastor hears from Angel that your basically one of the biggest singers to die so far and suddenly the crowds showing up makes sense

Charlie can’t help it and says with all the attention the hotel got she wants you to hold a show to bring more people here and though the timing is horrible you agree

alastor is more interested in how this show is gonna go

UNTIL he sees how much you change on stage

you look so much happier, more at peace and while your fairly chipper this is different from the regular, it’s nice

he’s admittedly blown away by your voice, because the vocals? he’s shocked, he definitely didn’t expect that

he also wonders how your singing in english is better than your speaking

he does like your music though and when the show is over and you finally settle down again he’s at your side asking all sorts of questions

like where did you learn to sing like that ?

what’s your favorite song to sing?

how do you sing better in english but struggle speaking it in conversation?

can you teach him? You answer them all casually and tell him it’s just something you’ve always done

He begins to encourage that you sing again, to keep your career going, your fairly young, you still have talent, you should

and reluctantly you agree

out of the two of you, you’re actually the one to confess first through song ;)

“I only have a few songs left for tonight.” You say into the microphone. The fans cheer and the lights focus on you once more. You smile before the music starts up again. “This song means more to me than when I wrote it. Now it means something more because I have someone to care about.” You say again, and you stop letting the music play for a bit. At the sound of the music playing for the song the fans cheer, excited once more. ��I could lose my heart tonight If you don't turn and walk away. Cause the way I feel I might, lose control and let you stay.”

In the stands, Charlie and Vaggie smile to each other enjoying the song while Angel just silently listens. Husk is drunk out of his mind with a bottle of booze while Nifty is listening contently. Alastor is watching, now having questions. Who are you talking about? The crew is straight in front of the stage, just a bit higher up above ground in the stadium. “And I know it's not right, and I guess I should try, to do what I should do. But I could fall in love, fall in love with you. I could fall in love with you” You’re now at the front of the stage, and Alastor can’t tell if your staring at him or the people around him.

“Siempre estoy soñando en ti. Besando mis labios, acariciando mi piel. Abrazándome con ansias locas. Imaginando que me amas. Como yo podía amar a ti.” Suddenly he’s grateful for all those spanish lessons you gave him while writing your songs, because now he knows what you’re saying. I'm always dreaming of you. Kissing my lips, caressing my skin. hugging me with crazy longing. imagining that you love me, how could I love you.

The song ends not to long after that, and there are only a few more songs before the show ends. Charlie and the rest of the group meet you backstage to congratulate you. “You did amazing Y/n! Thank you so much.” Charlie says as she runs over to you hugging you. You smile and hug her back, Vaggie handing you a bouquet of flowers. The ride back to the hotel is relatively quiet, small talk here and there, but everyone is so tired they’re all ready to knock out.

Except for Alastor who is scrambling nonsense around in his mind.

Why did he feel like you were talking to him?

when you get back to the hotel you excuse yourself to your room, getting un-ready

and before you’re about to go to bed you hear a knock at your door

you open it to see alastor

“Hello my dear! I wanted to discuss something with you.” You stare a bit nervous before nodding.

“Would you like to accompany me on an evening stroll?” He asks, and you feel a bit excited.

“Of course, let me get a sweater first.”

When you come back you shut your room door and the two of you begin walking down the hall.

It isn’t until you leave the hotel you speak again. “so what did you want to discuss?” You ask and he just smiles wider.

“I wanted to praise you’re preformance tonight. It was truly astounding! Why it put poor old Annette to shame!” He complimented, beaming a smile. You pat yourself on the back mentally before thanking him.

“Alastor, I think we both know what needs to be said.” you speak up, sensing his nervousness. He stiffens before stopping entirely.

“I believe you’re aware of where my feelings reside for you.” You say, trying to carefully speak to make sure you make more sense. He just nods, and you sigh.

“I understand if you don’t… feel the same. I am content with moving on and forgetting this-“

“Why that’s no way to live dear.” Alastor says, a smile on his face. His staff disappears and he takes your hands in his, twirling you before bringing you close. “Podría enamorarme de ti.”

various thoughts/justifications below:

i know i’m probably the only person who’s ranking “a sentimental man” this high, but... i really like that song 😭 and i thought how they staged it was lovely. simple, but effective and charming.

people will also be aghast at how low i put “one short day," but 1) i was already spoiled of the surprise cameos, 2) the visuals were fun & energetic, but the actual Song/vocals didn’t fully click for me, 3) i don’t value cameos that highly, however fun they may be. good performance (the standard is high!), but not my favorite. 🤷‍♂️

i guess i should justify “defying gravity” not being top 3. honestly, it's more because of the strength of three songs above it, which are AMAZING. it's still very good, though! i already knew the vocals were going to be perfect. i think the only thing that’s really dragging it down a tiiiiiny bit is the visuals. they’re mostly good, but there’s just a coooouple moments when there’s a bit too much CGI for my liking.

especially cuz i saw behind-the-scenes footage of cynthia actually doing live flying stunts. i was hoping the use of practical effects meant the flying parts were going to look more “real”, i guess? it was mostly fine, though. some moments REALLY shine - the “fall” sequence is really good (you'll know what i mean when you see it), as is the new “unlimited” part they added near the end.

so for the most part, it’s a great number! i just had sky-high expectations from the start!

cynthia erivo is perfect in every song, so that’s not really a commentary on one specific number... but imo her best scene is actually the ozdust ballroom. every emotion is on her Face rather than in song. she doesn't have to say a word. every "weird kid at high school" trauma already burns in your soul.

but the ending of defying gravity also deserves a shoutout here for acting reasons. and i Don’t just mean the scream. i also mean the way she emotes, as she goes from the airy “unlimited” to the growly “aaand NOBODY. in ALL of oz!” its so raw and visceral and free.

i should also say, i like ALL the songs. yes, the standard is that high. yes, even "dear old shiz." i actually listen to the studio cut of that one quite a bit. what can i say, i like the choir! i think it was just somewhat unmemorable. plus, something had to be at the bottom, but there’s things i like about all of these. “something bad” had good visuals that elevated it, too.

"popular" was amazing??? especially because my expectations were not high. like when they released that fuckass lyric video that did NOT showcase it well AT ALL. 😭 it’s WAY better in the actual movie! i promise!

so yes, these are somewhat impacted by what my “expectations going in” were like. i am biased. like anyone. but that's also a reflection of how good the songs are in their "neutral" state, so there's a graded curve where i expect more from the songs i love more. (in a more "objective" sense - although i hate that word when it comes to judging art - "defying gravity" is probably 2nd or 1st).

but ariana genuinely does kill it! her "popular" is funny, charming. and even sincerely well-intentioned. visuals are fabulous, and the new “finale” part is wonderfully overdramatic. it’s so great.

“dancing through life"... i mean... damn. what is there to say about jonathan bailey that hasn’t already been said by every critic on earth? he’s perfect. it’s fun, it’s sexy, the choreo and timing is smooth and slick. it makes you really WANT to be a part of the crowd, dancing (through life).

apologies for going on, but i need to talk about my number one: "no one mourns the wicked." because wow. wow. wow wow wow. this song works much better in the movie than on stage. full stop. no contest.

i think one reason is that you actually buy it as a celebration, at first? in the musical, the instrumentation and the way the munchkins are singing is so aggro right from the start. there’s no way to read it other than satire of a witch-burning. it's too over-the-top.

in the movie, the music feels more genuinely triumphant. it doesn't beat you over the head with it being "wrong" for them to celebrate - at least not at first. you are surrounded by light and happiness. you actually believe the munchkins relief as they’re tearing doing the witch posters. they are safe. the witch is dead. good news!

until “no one cries they won’t return / no one lays a lily on their grave”, the only hint of something feeling Wrong is glinda herself. ariana is genuinely incredible in the scene. the most miserable person in the world, surrounded by the loudest cheers.

the way her eyes seem completely black, empty, and So tired as she pops the bubble with a little fake smile is actually slightly terrifying. she seems just a bit inhuman, by her own design. it’s 10/10.

the whole number looks visually stunning. them all throwing flowers in delight as glinda forces herself to join in (and trying not to have an emotional breakdown) is haunting. a celebration for them, but with glinda trying to rid herself of her feelings with each movement.

it really turns what IN RETROSPECT is a very difficult moment for glinda in the show, into an emotional reckoning in the present. ariana does that better than the best of glindas.

it’s hard to pick a favorite moment (it’s all brilliant), but i think the part where the munchkins hand glinda the fire and make HER throw it on the witch effigy is the most intense one. it feels like every emotion she’s ever had about elphaba is a part of that throw.

the final chorus is absolutely incredible. it really feels like glinda pouring her heart out in the most socially acceptable form she can manage. at any point, i expected her to break and start screaming - i'm not the first to say this, but the final chorus CAN be read as a barely-disguised scream.

and ariana's soprano is INSANE. it's like it was designed to immediately shut down any discussion about whether she deserved the role. she does. she IS glinda, start to finish.

what else… uhh i really enjoyed "what is this feeling", good use of choreo. big theater kid energy. not a lot to say about it, but it was fun. glinda breaking the illusion of the “wall” between them is funny, as is all the students pouring out their “condolences” for her lol.

"the wizard and i" is also great. cynthia gives it a lot of warmth and joy. the segment where she fantasizes about her greenness being “fixed” while surrounded by stained glass pieces is really pretty. honestly, i might bump it up a spot or two!

i don't think anything is going to change my current number one, though. it's just outstanding.

I think there's a certain irony in the fact that Rhaenicent ended up being the reason why Alicent's character was ruined. In the first season, the writers changed her age, invented a sad backstory, and created a friendship with Rhaenyra, all to make her more of a sympathetic victim. I remember the Team Black never liked this because many of these changes were made at the expense of taking away moments from Rhaenyra or eliminating parts of her story, like her friendship with Laena or her entrance in the black dress, which originally belonged to her in the book.

When Team Black fans voiced their displeasure with these writing choices, warning that they would harm the plot, the Greens (mostly fans of Alicent and Aemond, characters who benefited a lot from these changes in the first season) told them to stop complaining, saying that the show was better for giving more depth to characters who didn’t have much in the book. They claimed that the TB was just angry because their favorites were becoming more likable. In the end, the TB was right. Those changes to Alicent’s character and her friendship with Rhaenyra ultimately harmed not only her character but all the Greens characters as well. Which, in my opinion, is pretty ironic.

Absolutely. People on TB, inclu myself, were not really, expressly concerned w/Alicent's characterization for her own sake I will admit that. At the same time, they/we preferred Alicent to act with the agency she displayed in the actual story and grew more and more disgusted with the disengenuous righteousness of portraying Rhaenyra as "spoiled" to Alicent's "dutifulness", which worked to be a disservice to both women. Their relationship and the dichotomy, even for the change for best friends turned enemies they created wasn't even given the proper development or "explanation" on the friendship side that it should have. You can also look at my earliest hastagged "alicent's characterization" posts where I and others complain & criticize Alicent's character of season 1 for more.

TG has often, for a few years, relied on the whole "complex character" bull crap, and I wrote a Twitter thread back in June abt why/how they use the word. Often enough, though, we call a character(s) "complex" bc they suffer to a degree or type excessively and/or for a sustained amount of time; that is because with suffering, people can tend to build up varied coping mechanisms & defenses that could lead them into self/outer(ly) destructive places. And these can drive a story forward, as the greens provide the central conflict of the Dance/succession crises by being the ones plotting/usurping Rhaenyra. The consequences of their reasoning affects their own relationships with each other as well as their supporters. The greens' shitck is that they are just wrong, both for the sexism and how they think their rulership means for the rest of the realm's lords.

But:

the greens are still pretty static with how the show is written; bc of their goal and how they grew up, they do not have a positive character development...it's more of a constant revealing action from their potential for violence

not all complex characters are credited as such in fandoms bc a lot, or the most vocal, of the audience thinks that character is too unlikeable to really explore or credit their motives as worthy of some grace so much as how it may affect them alone if it was in real life, as to create their own blindspots

a character like Daenerys Stormborn, who is pretty morally sound gets reduced to a future-mad-girl who killed poor slave masters, and her actual psychological journey gets misinterpreted--purposeful and not-so-much--and dismissed...this girl has one of the most complex characterizations in literature/media. Her feelings about leadership formed from her experiences and pondering over the relationship b/t a leader and those they lead, small concessions of the heart for intimacy or big ones for safety, how she thinks of her family's recent and longer history and legacy living through her, her emotional maturity overlapping with many signs of her temper and compassion, etc. Her campaign to kill the masters vs her desire to re-conquer Westeros bc of said relationship and the redefinitions of "duty" and love (love for her people and humanity, what is such a thing and how to realize that?). So "complex" doesn't always mean "morally questionable".

Don't get me wrong, I love me some toxicity or some sort of non-ordinary challenge/high stakes in my fiction. Most of my stuff are, and many provide me with catharsis when it is characters developing healthier ways of community, communication, romance, whatever. I also find catharsis when things don't work out so nice, like Claudia's fate in Interview with the Vampire--not bc I hated her, bc she's actually my favorite--bc the story validates the tragedy/horror/sadness's large significance, motivation, or presence in a human's experience under a safe environment (your couch, etc.), thus affirming a fuller sense of one's "humanity". While still thrilling. Claudia was doomed bc she was a child amongst adults who used her to force bonds between themselves and she was forced to become a monster herself to survive. And was punished for that. I love characters toeing the line between grotesque and safe--it's an adventure.

The Tortured Poets Department - Taylor Swift (Part 2)

9. Guilty as Sin? - you cheeky little minx, Taylor!!! I’m not sure she’s made me blush like this before! A song about…fantasizing outside of your relationship that sounds like the first day warm sun hits your skin after a long, cold winter. And I personally love a song with some good old fashioned yearning, so the bridge really takes it over the top for me. 5/5

Best Line: I really love a lot of lines here, but if “Drowning in the Blue Nile, he sent me ‘Downtown Lights’” is such a killer opener.

10. Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?- this song is an insane, showstopping moment. Edgy, raging, biting, and even still a little witty - “So tell me everything is not about me. But what if it is?” WAOLOM strikes such a good balance of being self-aware of her image and faults with genuine anger. Being the biggest pop star doesn’t make everything just roll off your back. Perfect production that builds and escalates exactly as it needs to. 5/5

Best Line: “I was tame, I was gentle 'til the circus life made me mean. ‘Don't you worry, folks, we took out all her teeth’”

11. I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can) - I really like the pseudo-western vibe going on and that lower register is always welcome in my books, but lyrically this doesn’t do a lot for me. It’s building to a punchline we all know is coming. She can’t fix him, shocking, and there’s not enough for me to root for the protagonist being delusional. Ending with just, “Whoa, maybe I can’t” is funny, but it’s not satisfying. If a common complaint is that this album is too long, this song doesn’t feel essential, story-wise. 2.5/5

Best Line: I said all of that, but I do really like the second verse, the best part being, “His hand so calloused from his pistol/Softly traces hearts on my face”.

12. loml- I had a really hard time picking a best line for this song. I almost made a list but decided that would be a little obnoxious. There’s references to her other work expertly weaved in to really great wordplay and metaphors and imagery. The development of the story in the three times you hear the chorus is stunningly good. It’s a pretty simple piano in the background with additional vocal layers right where they are needed for emphasis. There’s something a little bit missing from this song for me to give it a full 5, but I can’t quite put my finger on it and I also think loml really is a grower that’s not meant to be gobbled down in one bite. There’s a lot of lyrical details to be noticed and anything additional might take away from that. I vote this song most likely to be my favorite in 6 months that I don’t understand how it took so long to fully click. 4.5/5

Best Line: I had to do two, from the very beginning and end, that echo each other so it’s kind of like I only picked one then, right??? “Who's gonna stop us from waltzing back into rekindled flames if we know the steps anyway?” —-> “Our field of dreams, engulfed in fire. Your arson's match your somber eyes” Kill me (complimentary). The never before, never since turning into never before and ever since is also brilliant.

13. I Can Do It With a Broken Heart - This song is great. There’s a long history of Miss Swift making bops tinged with depression and anxiety and this may be her most unhinged version yet. A celebration of putting on a brave face when you’re going through some shit. Chanted like a mantra she tells herself, we get a peek behind the curtain of reaching glittering professional peaks not seen in this generation while her personal life was crashing. But no one can ever say Taylor Swift is not a professional - I love the delivery on the outro where she laughs off being miserable and ends with a little spoken zinger. Try and come for her job, indeed. 5/5

Best Line: “I’m so depressed, I act like it’s my birthday everyday. I’m so obsessed with him, but he avoids me like the plague,” tickles me so. This her comedy album. Inevitably going to go viral on Tik Tok at some point.

14. The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived - An absolutely killer bridge. It builds the drama up until the very end. Unfortunately, the verses could use a little stronger melody, the first half of the song is a little forgettable and feels a little clunky. 3/5

Best Line: “You kicked out the stage lights, but you’re still performing” is a close runner up but had to go with the opening of the bridge. “Were you sent by someone who wanted me dead?” is such a perfect escalation and so descriptive of a feeling without saying any feeling words.

15. The Alchemy- I really enjoy some parts of this song but I unfortunately have the desire to hire someone to dub over every single football reference so I can fully get into it. It’s too much, it’s too on the nose. I like the verses, I love the way she says, “I haven’t come around in so long,” and I think “who are we to fight the alchemy?” is a great line. There are just parts that feel like football Mad Libs in a way that makes this song pretty unlistenable to me. 1/5

Best Line: “This happens once every few lifetimes. These chemicals hit me like white wine”

16. Clara Bow - She’s known for writing about relationships and that has let the fact that songs about her relationship with fame are consistently top tier (despite being unrelatable to almost anyone since she is the most famous person on the planet) slip by mostly unnoticed. One of my favorite Taylor tricks is when she alters the lines a bit each go-round and/or flips the script in some way in the final chorus and this song is really an excellent combination of some of the best Taylor moves. I’m not going to pretend have known who Clara Bow was before this record, but it works and I don’t mind an album that makes me do a little Googling to understand some things. The Stevie Nicks reference is perfection. Saying her own name in a song really snaps you to attention. And I think this is a perfect album closer. She’s reckoning just as much with her own desire for notoriety and the consequences that go along with it as she is with former lovers, if you’re listening. 5/5

Best Line: “Crowd goes wild at her fingertip. Half moonshine, a full eclipse.” I’m not even sure I should include the first part. “Half moonshine, full eclipse” is one of my favorite things she’s ever written. (Side note as this is the most appropriate place to put it: the fucking personal poem from Stevie in the liner notes??? Stevie being a loud YOYO,K stan??? I weep at the coolness. Which is the opposite of cool and continuing to comment on it is even worse, sorry!)

Beloved character actress Andrea Martin (1947) is a two-time Tony winner for My Favorite Year (1993) and Pippin (2013), both for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, a nomination she has received five times, more than any other actress. Other stage work includes Exit the King (2009), Noises Off (2016), and A Christmas Carol (2019). You may know her from SCTV if you're old enough, where her impersonations and portrayals will make you cry laughing.

It is a hate crime against me personally that there isn't a single high quality photo of Linda Eder (1961) with her silver fox hair. She is best known for originating the role of Lucy Harris in Jekyll & Hyde (1997), and her career has mainly consisted of concert tours, cabaret acts, and an impressive discography. She teaches masterclasses and vocal lessons. She has an upcoming return engagement at 54 Below, and if someone could send me like $200 to go, that would be great.

I'm answering this with Dustin Shen, Robin's best friend in my Time Traveler story. Dust was born in game, but I still consider him my OC, one of my favorites, in fact. 😊❤️

1) Dustin's last name comes from his grandfather Lei Shen, whom his grandmother Sienna Langerak met on one of her trips to Shang Simla, and of course from his father, Dylan Shen. Although Dustin comes from a family of redheads on his paternal grandmother's side (the Langeraks), he's a blond like his mother, Karen Helgason.

2) Dustin's traits are Genius, Family Oriented, Proper, Lucky and Couch Potato. These are all a perfect combination of Dustin's personality, except that he doesn't really act like a couch potato, lol, in fact he's very active and sociable. Okay, he may be a bit of a couch potato when he plays video games, but in truth, he's more of a 'computer chair potato'. 😄

3) He has 5 celebrity points, perhaps because of the fame of his father, grandmother and grandfather, (a time traveler, a famous explorer and a superstar athlete, respectively). Actually, even though Dustin may look like a nerd at first glance, he could well have pursued fame, since his Lifetime Wish is Vocal Legend. But while he didn't pursue a singing career, he does play the guitar, the laser harp (rhythm a-con), and is very good at karaoke; in fact, he could easily have succeeded in a singing career, had he not been blinded by science. 😎

4) Despite being a genius, Dustin did not finish college, he dropped out of a career in Technology almost as soon as he started it, partly out of solidarity with his sister Juliette, who had to leave Uni when she found out she was pregnant; and partly because, in reality, Dust is too restless to sit and study in a classroom, he prefers to be self-taught and almost everything he knows about science, technology and music, he has learned on his own.

5) Finally, something that is not openly mentioned in the story, is Dustin's 'platonic crush' on Robin, something he will never admit to, and which he defines as just a 'great admiration'. I don't know if you've answered this question before, but do you have favorite Phantom/Christine pairings?

I have answered it before, but not too recently, so maybe it's time to make a big ole updated masterpost of all my favorites as of now!

Keep in mind that if a name isn't on here, it doesn't mean they're not a favorite or whatever, it might just mean I never saw them with a Phantom or Christine I particularly liked (e.g. Gina Beck is an all-time favorite but she's not on here because I never really saw her opposite a Phantom I also really enjoyed) or I preferred a slightly different pairing (e.g. I really liked Franc D'Ambrosio with Lisa Vroman but I slightly preferred the latter with Brad Little). And there may be one or two where I could not decide at all (e.g. do I prefer Kelly Mathieson with David Thaxton or Josh Piterman? I can't tell!). Anyway, here they are:

Michael Crawford/Sarah Brightman - The OG cast. It can't be helped, they both had such unique takes on the role and it makes them one of the most memorable pairings for me.

Dave Willetts/Jan Hartley Morris - His rougher take on the mold that Crawford left vs. Jan Hartley Morris's old-school, classical Christine is a winner.

Mikael Samuelson/Elisabeth Berg - I love Samuelson's slightly harsher vocals compared to Berg's operatic tones.

Alexander Goebel/Luzia Nistler - Goebel is eerie, ghostly, and unhinged at the end; Nistler has a lovely classical voice and a scared, slightly naive take on her Christine. It fits well.

Davis Gaines/Tracy Shayne - Gaines is commanding, sensual, elegant; Shayne is innocent but with a touch of maturity that brings a certain uniqueness to the role.

Saulo Vasconcelos/Irasema Terrazas - Hands! I think both were allowed a lot of freedom in the role and it's great.

Hans Peter Janssens/Ineke van Klinken - Janssens is both very nuts and very sad while van Klinken is a reserved yet steely-willed Christine who is more than a match for him.

Ian Jon Bourg/Alison Kelly - Bourg is good with so many Christines, but I loved Alison Kelly's feistiness.

Michael Nicholson/Olivia Safe - Just a fascinating pairing, and they were both understudies!

Yoon Young Seok/Hye Kyoung Lee - It didn't matter that both were speaking Korean, they were so emotional that I felt like I understood every aspect of their performance.

Brad Little/Lisa Vroman - Kind of mentioned above, but I love how well these two act together.

Hugh Panaro/Julie Hanson - Hugh Panaro is a sarcastic jokester of a man and it makes you really feel for Julie Hanson's child-like Christine at the end of the show.

Gary Mauer/Elizabeth Southard - A real-life married E/C couple brings all the chemistry!

Earl Carpenter/Rachel Barrell - Barrell is also really good with JOJ, and more spirited around him, but I love Earl Carpenter more.

John Cudia/Jennifer Hope Wills - Oh the sparks these two brought to the role! Cudia was scary and dominating but JHW was absolutely able to hold her own against him.

Simon Pryce/Julie Goodwin - The voices of these two!

Marcus Lovett/Anna O'Byrne - Leroux-accuracy heaven.

Jeremy Stolle/Samantha Hill - Again, I've seen these two give fantastic performances with multiple performers, but I really do love what they bring to the show together.

Tomas Ambt Kofod/Sibylle Glosted - Very detailed, nuanced performances in a production that was full of it.

Jonathan Roxmouth/Meghan Picerno - There was fire between these two! Roxmouth was intent on bending Christine to his will but Picerno was so fiercely independent that you knew he could never succeed.

Jeon Dong Seok/Son Ji-soo - JDS is a swoon-worthy Phantom while SJS brought lovely expressions to the role.

And I'm sure there are many others...

What about a pre-borderlands!Chishiya at college with a s/o who's a drama major. My college is an exception that only has drama, but I know most colleges have a lot of majors in it. A med student dating a drama student, as they say, is not compatible. But who the hell cares about that?

To say the least, Chishiya already knows your pacing and workaround. They say drama major students can mask their emotions and feelings, but for him, he can still read you like you're still an open book.

Listening to a song on repeat? Chishiya may find it annoying at first, but he'll find himself humming to it while he's on his twenty minute break, a cup of coffee or energy bar in hand as he goes over patients' files on his clipboard.

Feeling pressured because there's an upcoming audition and feeling insecure as you're facing not only your fellow blockmates but your seniors as well? No problem. Chishiya will be with you, giving you pointers in areas you should work on while cheering you up with your favorite snacks and drinks. If you land yourself on the lead role, he'll be so proud of you. But even if you didn't, he's still proud of you, because you did your best and that's what matters.

"Why is Y/N doing jumping jacks while wearing a medieval gown?" He hears one of his blockmates ask.

"She's having a hard time memorizing her lines and the director is helping her. Don't worry, she's amazing. She'll be able to memorize it after that." Chishiya replies.

"Y/N's so amazing! She's already memorized the dance in just three minutes!"

"Of course." Chishiya responded, chest bursting with pride. "She's already a natural."

"Why is Y/N looking at her reflection with mascara running down her face looking like she's gonna murder someone?"

"Oh that?" Chishiya piques, turning his head to look at his blockmate. "She's playing as the antagonist of an upcoming play they're having."

"Y/N's growling like a lion in the other room." One tells him.

"They're having a workshop. It looks like the director has asked them to act as an animal." Chishiya answers.

"Do you guys hear that? Sounds like someone is vocalizing..."

"Don't bother. Y/N's part of a musical production. She's warming up her vocals."

Sometimes, it gets hard when the availability of days is not compatible. Chishiya could be free on the weekends, but you'd be having rehearsals and is needed in campus. But does that stop him from seeing you? Nope!

Holding a lunch box in one hand and the other holding onto your favorite drink, he's already on his way to see you, watch you rehearse even. It could take the whole afternoon, but you wouldn't hear a single complain come out of his lips.

Chishiya knows the cons of dating a drama major, but he knows what he's gotten himself into. And for that, he fully supports you through and through. Not only is he your romantic partner, but he's also your cheerleader and coach!

There's never a dull day between the two of you. Life may be hectic and demanding, but as always, Chishiya always knows how to find himself way back into you.

okay the ask of all time: how do you think various dark souls characters stim? could be relevant to your fic or not, up to you! [if you want to introduce modern stimming to them (like how daniil dankovsky now has ye olde snake tangle) that's also groovy]

I've got a good amount of stim headcanons for certain characters! Some of them may end up getting highlighted in To The Accursed, but this answer won't spoil anything for the fic per say so don't worry.

(I should also specify that this will only focus on DS1 characters since I'm not finished with 2 and haven't played 3 yet)

Well to get the obvious out of the way I know Siegmeyer is a major vocal stimmer. All those “Mmmmmmm, hmmmmm’s” he does whenever he’s deep in thought comes across like he’s trying to keep himself calm so he doesn’t get frustrated in each of his predicaments. I can’t blame him, and I’ve even found myself parroting his hums after first hearing his dialogue since it helps me out too!

Though we sadly don’t see much of Sieglinde, I imagine she too has a similar vocal stim as her father. We just don’t get to hear it because we never run into her experiencing the same bouts of indecision as he does.

Big Hat Logan I imagine is very tactile. He’ll rub the ends of his sleeves or his robe’s collar when he’s feeling anxious, and would especially love the textures of a book’s spine and pages (only the GOOD books though, he refuses to read any in bad condition unless they’re the only source of the knowledge he’s seeking). Logan’s also invented his own stim sorceries: complex but intentionally weak little glowing patterns with satisfying sounds he casts simply because the act of casting them feels so good!

We already know the Undead Merchant Woman hyperfixates on moss, so it wouldn't be a surprise if her major stim come from peeling the plants and kneading her fingers deep into each of the clumps. I can even see her talking to herself while she does it too. Her voice does kinda work for an ASMR lol.

Solaire... I'm actually not entirely dead set on his stims at the moment. If the npc models weren't so stiff I could definitely see him flapping his hands a lot, especially when he's allowed to infodump. Hell, his Praise the Sun gesture could be a stim for all we know!

Patches I can totally see as a nail-biter. He also used to pick at his hair often back when he still had any, and even after shaving it all off the muscle memory occasionally causes him to reach up and scratch his head. Though of course we mustn't forget his absolute favorite form of stimming: kicking people off of cliffs >:-)

And a bonus! My oc, Leiurus, often self-soothes by rocking back and forth while sitting down. She also particularly likes grabbing things, whether it be her own clothing or any nice looking trinkets she finds, most especially ones that have a good texture like fine robes or scales.

"so how were the songs? do you like it?"

"may i see the credits on each songs, like the composers or something like that, pd-nim?" asked the idol while having her eyes trained on the laptop screen and the producer gives a piece of paper.

yunjin feels herself sweating as she watches the big hit idol scan the piece of paper with a blank look. a pleased expression washes over hyunseol's face before she gives the paper back to si-hyuk.

"now that introduction and songs overview are over, we can start."

"wait, seol." the idol looks up from the device, meeting the producer's eyes. "among the songs you've heard, what is your favorite? and what song do you think will have a huge appeal to the public?"

the txt member furrows her eyebrows together, the laptop laying idle on her lap. "why should my response matter in this?"

"just answer the questions."

the idol shrugs and brings her focus back on her laptop. "my favorite in the album is blue flame. i like everything of that song, especially the lyrics and-"

as soon as those words left the idol's mouth, yunjin feels herself falling in her own thoughts and slowly starts smiling at herself. chaewon, on yunjin's right looks at the 5'7 foot idol through her peripheral vision and holds herself from smirking at the spaced out expression over the tall member.

"do you have more questions, pd-nim?"

"no, no. you can continue." the idol nods and stops typing, looking at the six soon-to-be idols.

"hello, again. i have a question, a very weird one. i'm sure you all know that mrs. kwon tends to be so cryptic whenever you have a recording session, right?" the girls nod, curious on what the question is. "at your last session with mrs. kwon, did she say anything? like random words that starts with stage? like for example, stage 1?"

"well...", yunjin starts off and slightly winces when the txt member look over at her direction, listening intently. "i remembered her saying stage 36 after mrs. kwon made us do vocal practices in our album."

the six girls see how the idol's eyes light up at the response with a smile decorating the latter's lips. "another question. which do you girls do more nowadays: dance practice or vocal practice?"

"dance practice."

"hm, i can see why", the idol mutters with a nod.

"you can see why what?", si-hyuk asks beside hyunseol and the txt member throws him a look. "why did you ask those question? what does stage 36 mean?"

"uhm... i don't know if i am allowed to share this or not because mrs. kwon likes to keep her mysterious act up." the idol scratches the area behind her ear, looking around the room before sighing. "but... i suppose i could break one rule.

"stage 36 means one practice before recording, perfect, or ready to record in a six-membered group, pd-nim. i suppose the management made these girls do dance practice more because their vocals are already perfect in mrs. kwon's vocabulary." the idol keeps her hold on the laptop tight as she adjusts herself on the couch.

"how do you even find out about stage 36 from mrs. kwon?"

"i asked her about that one time, but she didn't tell me the meaning of it. she just told me that i can guess it, and i did after a few sleepless nights." the idol shrugs. "but anyways, enough of that. we're doing vocal practice today. i need to see if there's still an issue to be addressed."

"hang out? they wanted us to hang out?! why?!"

"the ceo reckoned that you two hanging out will make you guys closer." the former sighs in exasperation with a shake of her head. "i did everything i could do to avoid that like i told him you were visiting your parents, but he couldn't be convinced. no matter how i tried."

"thank you for trying, unnie but you know it'll take everything to convince him." the former runs a hand through her hair. "when is this supposed hang-out?"

"later this evening."

"fuck, i'm dead!"

"mind your language!"

"that won't matter if i mess up tonight, unnie!"

"and that's for this morning. good job, girls!" the big hit idol claps with a grin as the six soon-to-be idols clap along with her. "good luck on your debut, i'm sure all of you will do great. let's continue this practice later. enjoy your lunch."

the six girls nod with a smile, relieved to work with the idol and not some cranky staff.

"i don't think you'll be here after lunch, hyunseol." yongsun comments and the idol turns her head towards the former.

"wait, why? i have nothing to do later."

"solo schedule." hyunseol furrows her eyebrows together until she realizes what her manager meant as her eyes widen.

"WHAT?!" the six girls watch as the idol takes a deep breath and sigh. "this solo schedule will start after txt's vlive, right?"

"yes, although the others insisted that you should ditch from attending it. but i told them you either join the vlive with your members and go to the hang-out or not go to the hang-out at all." yongsun shares as she leans against the couch. "they either grant that request or not; it'll be their loss, not ours."

"well, thank you for insisting that i'll join my members later." hyunseol closes the laptop and shoves the device back in its bag with a sigh. "i thought i still have free time later, but i guess i have none now."

"sorry, seol."

"it's okay, unnie. it's not your fault." the idol then looks at the girls and bow with a smile. "looks like we won't see each other later. a shame, really, but you girls can use this practice room if you girls have still some dance practice to do."

"we will and thank you, seol unnie." chaewon bows, her leader side showing. hyunseol smiles. i'm sure you'll do great as a leader, chaewon-ah.

"thank you, sunbaenim!" the six girls bow in unison.

"and thank you too. good luck on your journey." with moonbyul leading, the girls and their manager leave the room. hyunseol is once left in the room, the sound of the air coming from the a/c being the only noise filling the small area.

she then grabs the food yongsun grabbed for her which consisted of eight pieces of gimbap, a bowl of tteokbokki, and two medium-sized bottled colas. she grabs the table in the corner and settles it in front of the couch she was sitting on.

she starts eating while scrolling through her socials before she had an idea on starting a vlive while eating. once she sent the txt group chat a message, she opens her second phone and starts the live.

"hello, moas~" hyunseol waves as she looks at the phone camera with a grin. i knew using two phones is a good thing. "how are you all?"

"see, moas? it's staff unnie. she owed me a favor earlier, so i asked her to bring me sodas for my members so that she won't feel obligated to think of doing me a favor. you're always jumping into conclusions, i'm disappointed."

yeonjun then speaks up, smirking. "yeah, don't jump into conclusions like that. you're forgetting that seol noona is yours, moas."

the oldest chuckles and nods. "yeah, you guys should know i like you. i'm your one and only bae. i'm only yours, baby." the oldest says the last line in english with her deep voice. suddenly a huge influx of comments come in and txt chuckles, knowing they successfully diverted their fans' attention.

"woohoo~" hyunseol weakly cheers and raises her arms, laying down on the floor as her members loudly cheers, clapping and jumping around.

the rest of towerz line, yeonjun and beomgyu help the oldest to the couch. suddenly, the practice room door opens and everyone in the room, including the six girls and the two managers get startled before looking at the door to see huening kai holding a plastic bag filled with water bottles. "here, hyungs and noona."

thank you, seol mouths as she watches huening kai uncapped her water bottle before she drinks, her throat feeling contented with the water.

when the manager received no response, the txt members and yongsun turn their heads to look at the txt's only female member. on the couch lays hyunseol softly and peacefully snoring with the capped water bottle on her lap.

"aww..." the manager then approaches the idol and grabs a tissue from her bag before wiping the sweat on hyunseol's face. she then looks at txt's leader. "soobin, throw that blanket."

once she caught the blanket in her arms, yongsun carefully drapes the soft fabric over hyunseol's gigantic form and smiles to herself, seeing the oldest in a peaceful state.

"noona, seol noona has a schedule, right?" beomgyu whispers, careful not to raise his voice.

"yeah, but she needs rest. they need seol, not the other way around. they need to wait for her, or else she'll arrive there grumpy."

"besides, noona deserves this rest. she just got us a week worth of samgyeopsal. cut her some slack, beom." yeonjun gently pats his fellow towerz member on the back.

"sleep well, noona."

they're so cute and caring to seol, yunjin thinks to herself as she watches txt look at their oldest. she then finds herself at staring at the 5'11 foot idol. chaewon and sakura catch the tall member in the act before catching each other's eyes with mischievous glint in them.

I feel like...all of them being creatives (in a sense), they'd give each other little trinkets and gifts and such. Some of them may be purely functional, but for the most part they're decorative, symbolic, and unique. There's some aesthetic choices that makes it obvious who made what, and each of them really enjoy those little differences. Solaris leans more into the straightforward functional side, Prism's has a lot of moving mechanical parts, and Fabby's little creations are the most stylistic (both for little engineering projects and fashionable gifts). And I think each of them would know each other Really Well that they know exactly what they want to do for them. You know that phrase "I loved you to the point of invention"? One of my favorite dang quotes, literally them full stop.

For other little ways...

Solaris isn't much for obvious tells of affection, but she's very fond of spending time with the people she loves. She likes spending time doing whatever, even if they're just chilling, working on something together, generally just doing stuff together. I'd think she's the type to be very attentive to her partner's needs (as in, physical needs...she's still working on picking up emotional and romantic ones). Part of it is because of her experience post Death Engine--all that physical pain is something she wouldn't want to happen to the people she cares about. She tries to get her workaholic girl friends something to eat (she's trying her best to not burn everything she makes...)

Fabricator would be the more physically affectionate one, everybody knows this...On very rare occasions (read: Solaris and Prism ONLY) she uses her affection to comfort someone if they're feeling down. There's also a specific change in the tone of her voice that she only reserves for partners (again, Solary and Primmy) to show her genuine affection for them. Any show of vulnerability for Fabby is a whole fuss for herself, but when it comes to supporting her partners or letting them know she loves them genuinely, it's all worth it. Usually she also does small acts of service for them too.

It's very easy for Prism to put her love in her words I think. She's very vocally supportive and she likes giving praise to her favorite people, and she could usually phrase it in a way that the other two could find meaningful. Whether it's in awe of a cool project or personal achievements, she likes celebrating the little things with them. When she's not knee-deep in a project, she would also do acts of service for her partners... making their fave drinks when they're feeling down, helping them with their own projects.

Drew has never admitted to being a perfect creature (yes he has), so yes, he has a few drawbacks and vices here and there. For one, even he has had a rocky beginning to his coordinating career. Soledad never fails to remind him of that, just to keep him a little humble.

For the sake of another example, he's not great with crowds in spite of how well he composes himself on stage. His stage persona versus his true persona are completely removed from each other. He hates crowds--absolutely detests them.

Oh yeah, another vice--he's bad at conversation. He may act like he's this cool drink of water, but that's just socialite conditioning from having a brilliantly privileged background. That's all essentially a requirement, along with ballroom dancing lessons and vocal lessons and all that other upper-upper class BS. Without that to cushion his otherwise full-on awkwardness, he's just like any other troubled teenager.

Harley does love to troll him about that, too.

"Say, when are you going to stop dicking around and do something about your feelings for our precious gingerbread cookie?" Harley confronts him, each and every damn day at this point. he's lost the record, not that he keeps track. It’s become so normalized it's not necessary. It’s the first question before "how many ribbons do you have" or "how have you been?"

Gingerbread cookie? Drew has forgone commenting on Harley's quirky nicknames for them a long time ago. for soledad lately it's been 'pinky pie.' or 'my little ponyta.' For him? Eh . . . a little less flattering. He’s been fond of calling him anDICK. AnDICK Gayden. Because he's the pinnacle of maturity.

He's also one to talk, considering his own orientation Harley's loud and proud about, which Drew commends him for actually. It's never been a secret of course, given his entire brand . . .

"Who says I have feelings for her?" Drew counters, although everyone knows what reaction he's going to be met with after asking that--

"--literally everyone," Soledad cuts in, sliding into their table with her own tray of a bountiful breakfast. "Good morning, guys. I see you started breakfast without me or may."

"You guys take forever, snickerdoodle," Harley sighs, "Besides, you're not missing out on much. Drew's just about to admit that he radiates small dick energy hence my favorite nickname for him--!"

"--Harley," Soledad groans, "you don't need to tell us the origin of that name, thanks. it's not even that creative."

Harley gasps theatrically. "Hey!"

"Is May up yet? The Pokemon Contest starts . . ." Drew glances at the clock. "Oh, never mind. We have plenty of time. It gives us time to prep and perfect our routines a bit more. I guess I didn't realize how early it was. Especially for someone who likes to sleep in like May.”

"Do you want me to go get her, if you're getting antsy?" Soledad teases.

Drew fails to conceal that brilliant rosy blush on his face. He hates how easily he's read by everyone in this room--which right now is just them and Nurse Joy and her blissey.

"No, she deserves rest. She's been working hard, you know."

"Awwww, look at Andick all fawning over her and giving her credit where credit is due,'' Harley gushes while wraggling those caterpie eyebrows of his.

"Shut up!"

"But he does bring up a good icebreaker, Drew," Soledad admits as she bites down on her bagel, filled to the brim with cream cheese. how she keeps her figure so slim in spite of her dietary choices, the world may never know. "I know we poke and prod all the time, but watching you trip over her is starting to get . . . well, old. Do something about it. We're here to support you, you know."

"Well I appreciate that, but I don't think there's any rush. As much as I love and respect her, I doubt she's even noticed," Drew laments, "and I've been dropping tons of hints."

"The roses? That's not enough!" Soledad swears this is all hopeless but she's trying for him. "Drop stronger hints."

"What's stronger than friggin' red roses? A kiss on the hand or forehead?"

"That's . . . a bit bold, but you can try. I doubt she'd shy away."

"I don't know soledad. Many girls may flock to me but I don't know how to talk to girls. at all."

"We know," Harley and Soledad say in unison.

"Believe us, we know, we watch you interact with May," Harley goes on, "And she's the easiest person to talk to in the world, honestly."

"Awww, now look who's getting all sentimental about may," Soledad teases with a grin.

"Shut up," Harley huffs, "I'm just saying that she’s come to mean a lot to me."

“We all share that sentiment about her. I never had many girl friends, so it’s nice to have one.”

“But back to the main and the only interesting topic of discussion, how the hell is Drew going to make the move?”

“He did claim he was going to make the bold move and kiss her.”

“On the HAND, Soledad.”

“But what if May finds that weird? All Drew ever is is mean to her most of the time–!”

“--He’s living up to the classic ‘he’s mean to you because he likes you’ bullshit. Which, by the way Drew, what in Mew made you believe that’s the best approach–?”

“I–!” Drew’s about to defend himself, because where in Mew’s name does he deserve all of this slander and roasting. They continue for much longer and he’ll become a cooked staraptor.

“Okay, okay, look. I get it! I get it alright.” He tosses his hands up in the air nin defeat. “I’m all talk, no game. It’s just I don’t want to compromise anything between May and I. She’s become more than my rival in many obvious ways. I just never expected my feelings for her to be this strong after all of this time. We’re roaming through the Unova region, and at each contest I enter, I hope to see her. She’s a bright, bubbly person. A big ball of sunshine. She illuminates my entire life. She’s skilled, even if I won’t admit that to her face literally ever. I might subtly point it out though. It’s just, we’re friends now, and I don’t want her to get the idea I became her friend just because I had feelings for her because that’s not true and–!”

Harley raises an eyebrow with a little smirk playing on his lips. Soledad seems to be making an expression that tells him to slow down and maybe cease all talking unless he wants to make a fool of himself.

May’s standing there, with her classic dumbfounded, puppy-like expression. She’s just rolled out of bed, and she’s ditched the bandana today to let her natural glossy hair flow. She’s got her tray of breakfast gripped in her hands.

“--she’s standing right behind me, isn’t she?” Drew finishes.

“I didn’t realize it was May Appreciation Day,” she chuckles as she joins them at the booth, sliding in next to Drew. “Just because I’m here doesn’t mean you should stop singing praises to me, though.”

Oh Drew does concur.

“I think I should stop, otherwise it’ll inflate your already oversized head. You don’t want to get as egotistical as me, hm?”

“It was so much more than just him singing praises to you, May,” Soledad chimes in with an amused twinkle in her eyes.

“Yeah, if you were here just moments earlier–!” Drew mimes slicing his throat with his finger, and Harley shrugs.

“--anyway, we should finish up and get ready to head to the Contest Hall. Can’t leave our fans waiting~” Harley sings.

“You have fans?” Drew deadpans, to which May quips, “All of us do, Drew.”

They finish their breakfast together, and just as Drew tosses his leftovers away Harley approaches him and whispers in his ear.

“You really are all talk and no game. Otherwise, you’d have fessed up like a man back there.”

Harley returns to the booth, and Drew stands there before placing his empty tray on top of the trash bin. He hates that he’s been roasted yet again by Harley, but he has a point.

From his spot, he watches as May and Soledad exchange a conversation he can’t make out, focusing on the way her eyes crinkle a little when she smiles that big and wide. Even if she’s not a morning lark, she still has that bucket of pep to offer when she blesses anyone with her presence.

Drew stuffs his hands into his pockets, debating whether to leave first and have them meet him at the Contest Hall. He . . . is due for some self reflection and accountability.

He steals another glance of her when he hears her adorable giggle, this time at something Harley says, it looks like.

One day, he’s definitely going to tell her.

Just maybe not today.

What do you think of Sarah Brightman in POTO? She gets so much hate from the "phans" but I love her as Christine. She looks so victorian, classy, proper and innocent. When I got into the show (which I regret) I couldn't stop watching her with MC and Steve. I love her voice, it's so unique as Gillian Lynne described — like a dew dropping. Also Michael Crawford and her were similar in age to Erik and Christine. I think she wasn't more sympathetic and "into" him because that's how she was instructed to act, Hal Prince was very clear about Christine loving Raoul though she felt sorry for Erik. And Steve Barton was such a perfect Raoul. My all time favorite pair is JOJ & Gina as well as JOJ & Katie Hall. I also adore Hugh Panaro & Samantha Hill.

Honestly I would love to give an opinion, but I can't because I have only ever seen one Brightman performance and it was quite degraded, so her visual performance was very difficult to analyze.

What I will say is that I didn't know this about Hal Prince (keep in mind, I've only been in the Phandom for about eight months, so I'm still learning a lot of the production's history.) And I find that interesting, given the fact that Lloyd Webber himself has always dropped hints (and in more recent years, been more open about) his own very pro e/c feelings. I think in the end, everyone in the production has their own perspective, and those combinations of attitudes bubble and collide on stage with different outcomes every time. We have to keep in mind that every element of the main trio shifts the chemistry and even with repeats of the exact same trio, sometimes the vibe you get from Christine can be very different show-to-show. I've seen Crawford/Kristien/Barton in three separate boots and Kristien's performance has had varying degrees of enthusiasm with Erik in every one. In one she was more naïve and timid, in another she was blatantly horny.

I've seen Gina Beck absolutely terrified with Ramin Karimloo and gently spooked with David Shannon. I've seen Rachel Barrell mortified with John Owen Jones and sweetly sympathetic with Earl Carpenter (though her Christine always seems to be Lukewarm for Erik no matter what).

I can also say, having worked with some theatre directors (and of course, every director is different in how far they view their directorial power reaching) but the ones I've talked to have said "when we're in rehearsal it's my job to show you what to do. Once that curtain comes up, my job is done: it's in your hands, you know what to do."

Of course there's a limit to defying direction, but an actors job is not just to stand there and do what they're told. They have to do it in the way that will feel most organic to them and to the people watching. Theatre direction is different than movie direction. The director can't stop the show and give the actors notes to make sure that everything goes just how they want it to. The actors have a lot of power to interpret their direction, and like I said, that interpretation can vary from show to show even when it's the exact same main cast.

So I'm sure Brightman had performances where she was more into Erik and ones where she was more into Raoul. But I don't know.

Now as for her voice, I'm going to be honest that yes it's unique and she's without a doubt a fantastic singer, I'm not a huge fan of her vocal quality. Her voice is very thick to my ears and it's just not my favourite. I don't hate it by any means, but it's just not my favourite.

As for the hate, idk. If she did have a lukewarm performance across the board, it is partially her fault, but as I've said, creating a role is a difficult thing. Other Christines have been able to look at her and form impressions, have ideas and come to conclusions that Brightman may not even have thought of at the time. It's a lot of work to build a character with nothing to go on except the book which only partially resembles the story you're acting out, so I'm disinclined to be very harsh towards her. But I think we as phans have a feeling that no matter how many Erik/Christine pairings we've seen where Christine definitely embraces her attraction to Erik and leaves only reluctantly at the end--pairings that vindicate the E/C stance a lot of us hold dear--theres a sense (and an irrational one, I think) that the original interpretations are the only ones that really matter. While that's understandable, I think it's a bit of a fallacy, because as I've said, shows like this grow over time. New interpretations add new layers and ideas occur to both actors and directors that they maybe want to approach things differently from now on. If they changed their perspectives, it must be for a reason. The first version is often flawed.

ALSO keep in mind that later Christine's, Raoul's and Phantom's have had the benefit of full-text translations of the book that weren't available to the original cast and crew. Post 1990 Christines had the benefit of knowing that, in the book, Christine practically admits to Raoul that, if Erik was handsome, she would certainly have fallen completely in love with him (and, with Erik being pretty darn sexy in the musical, that definitely shifts the perception of Christine as a character and how she would make her decisions in this musical timeline). Maybe this is a factor into why most of the 90's Christines I've seen really went in for an enthusiastic interpretation.

Who can really say?

Also yes, Hugh and Samantha slap.

She's one of my top 5 Christines.
