long list of funny things abt my experience doing emote commissions for mike
first of all I wasn't expecting to get commissioned at all (my commissions weren't even open, I just made an exception for mike) let alone by MIKETHELINK of all fucking people, so I had nothing prepared. I had no portfolio, commission sheet, nothing. I had never made any twitch emotes, so I had no examples to show either. meaning that when barbmine showed up in my dms asking if I took emote commissions, first I lost my fucking shit, then I panicked and rushed to find the most recent emote-like illustrations I had, including animation, and the most recent animation I had on hand happened to be a viewtiful joe one lmao. the animation in question š
(the usernames on the watermark aren't even accurate anymore..)
I have some experience taking commissions but they'd always been for friends of mine, this was my first time getting commissioned by a real "client" and the client was fucking mikethelink tazercraft of all fucking people . I know he "found" me through Mine, she sent me a dm first asking for commission info, saying she would show it to mike later. the thing is that when she said that she also implied that she was in touch with other artists too, so I was like "oh ok I'll send my stuff but I probably won't get chosen lol" and then a few hours later I got two twitter notifs, one saying that mr. thelink tazercraft was now following me and another was his DM. to say I almost had a heart attack would be an understatement
later I found out Mine had made a tweet asking for artists to reach out/people to rec artists for mike's twitch emotes. that post had around 40 comments. many people had been recommended more than once. I wasn't mentioned by anyone once, and in fact, I had no fucking idea that post even EXISTED until way after the fact. I have no idea how I ended up getting this job
mike happened to contact me on a day where I was severely sleep deprived. our entire business conversation took place while I was half-panicking, half-almost-passing-out. I don't know how I survived
at many points during our conversation I gave a lot of leeway for mike to give up on commissioning me, implying multiple times that he would be better off commissioning a different artist. and it's not because I lacked confidence (though a bit of that too, of course), but because of my lack of experience. I was very open about that to him, so many times I expected him to second guess his decision to commission me. unexpectedly, he was really insistent. I think partially he didn't want to go through the trouble of finding and contacting a different artist, but also I guess he just liked my art that much (??!?)
I definitely undercharged him lol. it's not that I don't value my work, it's just that I was absolutely not prepared for any of this shit to happen and didn't have enough time to think
I use adobe after effects for animating mike's emotes. I already knew how to animate (though I had never animated anything big), but I had never used after effects before. I even told mike this before accepting the commission, but he just said it was easy and I could totally do it, and I was just like "fucking hell. fine". and look, I know my limits, I knew I'd be able to learn after effects with relative ease. if I thought it'be too much for me to handle, I wouldn't have accepted the commission. it just that to this day I'm still shocked that mike commissioned an artist who HAD NEVER USED THE TOOL NECESSARY FOR THE COMMISSION HE WANTED.
due to the point above I was pretty apprehensive about animating the emotes, but now I'm glad I got this opportunity bc it reignited my passion for animation that had been dwindling for a long time and I've been learning a lot while working. also with every new emote I figure out how to use a different feature of after effects and it makes the job a little bit easier
before giving my payment information I came out to him to avoid confusion with my legal name being different from the name on my socials. he was very chill about it and always used the right name and pronouns for me whenever he mentions me on stream
fun fact: I was reached out to by another big (brazilian, not in qsmp) youtuber for a commission but I had to refuse because I had too much on my plate already (still do..)
my favorite emotes are the devil one and the nerd one
I made his twitch avatar and banner too! I'm really proud of the avatar. the banner was absolute hell
I'm a lurker (and nowadays a vod watcher since I've been busy w/ uni work) but I do watch every single one of mike's streams, so just know that I'm always seeing you guys use the emotes :3

Crossover Question: If Dr.Octopus was in a Marvel vs Capcom game and had to make his own Sinister 6 with capcom villains, who do you think he would choose/who would you choose?
Traditionally the Sinister Six tend to comprise villains covering a wide range of types of threats Spider-Man goes up against, and they also can't be too big as individual villains otherwise because they're all supposed to be operating under at least one leader, usually Doc Ock, which is why you hardly ever seen Green Goblin or Kingpin in the Six unless they're the ones leading it instead. Trying to be as widespread as possible, here goes my picks counter clock-wise:
Vile: We need a Mega Man baddie, he's one of the most visually iconic of the bunch, he's traditionally Sigma's underling but we're not exactly trying to make iron-clad justifications for these. I think we could also argue that Doc Ock did some tampering with his circuits to win his loyalty or is promising him something in return so that he at least goes along with the plan before backstabbing them. Think he works nicely to fill that role filled in by Scorpion or Kraven, someone who is vile or dangerous or scummy even by the standards of the group, someone who helps keep the Sinister Six a oh-shit escalation of threat whenever it shows.
Abigail/Mech-Zangief: We need a Street Fighter character, we need dumb muscle, and we need at least one comic relief guy. The Sinister Six doesn't feel right without Rhino, so I'm elevating either one of these. Abigail is technically reformed but he's not exactly a "good guy", he's a disgruntled taxpayer trying to make ends meet who turns into a destructive rampaging beast at a moment's notice, which is Spider-Man villain territory already. I think we could include him or Mech-Zangief, as a way for Zangief to be in the team in spirit, a tribute to his kayfabe fame as a videogame bad guy that got him the spot in Wreck-It-Ralph's meeting.
Gran Bruce: We need at least one animal costume guy, a Spider-Man villain gathering is not complete without one, and it's good to have at least one guy who's kinda dumb and funny and not really much a threat until he might inexplicably be, sort of the Shocker of the group. I'm not too big on Viewtiful Joe and I could give or take this pick but he's a shark guy, that wins points with me.
Hanbei Takenaka: I think we need one villain who doesn't really fit the line-up, more of a handsome guy than a monster, someone who is bringing extra brains or tactics or weapons to the equation besides what Doc Ock brings. I almost included Vega for this reason but he's too specialized and we already have a major clawed villain, so instead this guy seems to be an interesting fit for contrast, like Martin Li or Hickman's Ultimate Black Cat.
Lady Dimitrescu: We need one Resident Evil villain and at least one more iconic villain besides Vile, and yes I know she is already fanatically loyal to another villain and already has a group, I know, but again, refer to Vile's section, these games don't exactly work on iron-clad character pairings, and if there's a character we need in a Marvel vs Capcom game stat it's her. She just feels right at home in a rogues gallery line-up (the Four Lords are such wonderful villains, they feel like characters you could throw into any series and have it work), and like Vile we need some actually dangerous villains and some villains who don't play nice and threaten to break the group of tiny pathetic stupid man-things beneath her, and she breaks away from the technological aspect by being a biological monster which is, again, definitely ground that needs to be covered. Out of everyone here, she's the one who I could most easily see actually fighting Spider-Man, joining the club of baddies who want to psychosexually tear him limb from limb. Only marginally less horny than Venom's whole deal.
Definitely taking suggestions on what other line-ups could be used for a Capcom Sinister Six, and which Capcom baddies could join.

I love viewtiful joe's metatextual writing y'know cuz it's an anime about movies and they go inside movieland and they interact with fictional characters 99% of the time, there's only a few characters who r ACTUALLY REAL in this show and I find that so fascinating. because for most of these episodes joe is just out there rescuing, saving and fighting for fictional characters who ARE NOT REAL but he never stops to question what he's doing or WHY he's doing it, like it's just a given to him that it's important to save these people and it doesn't matter that they are fictional. the whole message of the show is about how fiction impacts real life even if it's not "real".
and even the character arcs in this show mirror this message. there's a robot that learns that she has freedom of will despite being only a "creation", a villain who spends the whole show believing he cannot possibly deviate from his purpose of being a villain, and a character who, when confronted with the fact that he is fictional, just shrugs it off and says "so what? my heart is still real." and when you analyze all of these arcs they are all, fundamentally, about the same thing. or rather, they echo the same message: that as long as the fiction in question was made with heart, it doesn't matter that it's not "real". its impact on the world, and its ability to negatively or positively affect REAL people, is real.
the whole fucking plot of the show, like the bad guys of season 1 and 2, their main objectives were to turn all the movies into tragedies to plummet the world into despair and that would somehow give them power. it's all about fiction and how it affects us. and how fiction, no matter how silly or "not real", can be so important to us, real people.
this is so fucking true and i love it

Well, I can't draw to save my life, but I did spend some time in City of Heroes' costume creator to figure out what my s/i might look like.
Meet Violet! I'm still working on backstory details that aren't just "oh, look, I got sucked into my video game" (even though that'd work pretty well for Viewtiful Joe). She has Slow and the anime version of Zoom, meaning she zooms in on an enemy to find its weak pointsāher shy ass would probably just cover her face if she had to deal with the in-game Zoom! Instead of Mach Speed or Replay, though, she can summon energy shields, which she also uses to enhance her punches and kicks. It's not a VFX power, but eh, whatever.
As for her hero name... well, she's working on that. She's got the classic Joe problem of not being able to figure out a good name (and I'm bad with names). Maybe Vibrant Violet for the alliteration? She might have to fight Alastor to figure out her name.
Her in-game version has a pink scarf like Joe's, but I also like the idea of her having a ponytail "cape" like Silvia. I can't really replicate that in-game, though; this is the best I've got:
Just, uh, use your imagination. š
I'm putting my self-ship ramble under Read More because I'm embarrassed:
As for how she meets and hopefully smooches Dr. Cranken? I'm not 100% sure on that. I've liked the idea of him repenting for years now, thanks partially to Joe's line after his boss battle (and I have further thoughts that I might save for another post), but maybe instead we get an Evil Violet? Maybe one who tries to take over Movieland so she can go back to her childhood or finally give Viewtiful Joe his third game? I'd have to think on that. And maybe make an evil costume to see how I feel about it.

thinking about viewtiful joe. thinking about all the love that was clearly put into it. thinking about how the whole point of the show IS love. it's made of love.
thinking about the protagonist that loves movies so much he'll stop at nothing to protect their right to exist, because he believes so vehemently that they are a Good in this world, that they have a positive impact on real people. the way he treats every fictional character he meets as if they were real because to him, they are.
thinking about the character that, upon finding out he's fictional and that his entire world is fabricated, simply said "it doesn't matter. even though I'm only a character, even though I don't exist in the real world, I'm real. my heart is very real. it's real."
thinking about the character that wants to be just like the others, she wants to understand them, to be able to feel like they do. she wants to cry, laugh and experience emotions. she wants to have a heart. and the protagonist tells her "you already have one. maybe it's not like ours. maybe you'll never understand us. maybe you'll never be able to feel things like we do. but there's nothing wrong with that."
thinking about the character that is obsessed with fulfilling his life's purpose, so fixated on becoming what he's Supposed To Be that he loses sight of what he really wants and almost destroys everything most precious to him. thinking about the way the narrative tells him "it doesn't matter what you were born to do. even if you were written to be a weapon and a villain, someone who exists solely to harm others, you still have a choice. you thought your purpose was only to fight, but it doesn't have to be. it doesn't have to be."

while im posting tonight. i think about that ptg doodle thats peppino vs pepperman in presumably a 2d fighter a lot so heres my thoughts on how most of the pt + sugspi cast would play in a traditional fg
i posted this in the sugary spire discord and many ppl didnt know the terms. this is alright! i dont mind. i made a little in-depth explanation of the terms i use and break down a little bit more of what i want for each character. pasted under the cut if you would like to see (watch out! its long)
peppino: zangief- very traditional grappler, peppino actually already takes some poses from him while doing certain grabs in pizza tower +rtemkin- considered to be the "best" (in terms of tier placement) incarnation of potemkin, a guilty gear grappler with a lot of really cool tools that really shine at high execution. "grappler with a shoryu" - a shoryu, or a shoryuken/DP is a reversal with an invincible startup. peppino's uppercat animation resembles a shoryuken, hence he gets one. grapplers dont usually get these for balance reasons
noise: kohaku- meddling trap-placement character in melty blood, big trickster that puts things around that youll run into trying to get to her essentially, though shes got really good offense on her own faust- item toss character thats really good at keeping you at whatever range he wants you at onscreen midrange zoner- wants to keep you away, but not at fullscreen, so he can keep putting you into bullshit
pepperman: "big body but not a grappler" - big bodies usually have more health/defense and "armor" on their moves in exchange for slower movement and better payoff "maybe hes doing some tekken shit" - yeah "definitely has counters" - a counter move is a parry that automatically grants you a counterattack
gustavo and brick: relius- guy with good offense who controls a second body on a separate resource meter to lock down pressure
vigi: keepaway characters traditionally have less health than others to make you REALLY worry about getting caught; the noise prefers midrange but vigi prefers full-range and has efficient tools for arena escape
feppi: "what if rainbow mika was dan hibiki" - ok this one has layers. rainbow mika is a disciple of zangief and thus plays somewhat similarly, with more emphasis on speed and such. dan hibiki is a joke "worse" version of ryu command grab rekkas - rekkas are moves in multiple parts/moves that branch into multiple paths. like A->B->C or A->B-or-C->D. rekkas tend to give characters really cool routing abilities and a more free-flowing playstyle command movement- a move that makes a character perform a special action rather than necessarily an attack, like a teleport or a dodge
pizzahead: i mean hes there(*)
noisette: a "shoto" is a function like ryu or ken, very much the white bread of fighting games but always welcome and usually very fun and expressive to pick up. usually has a projectile and a shoryuken, at least
pizzelle: shoto was explained on the noisette slide š chipp and millia are both characters that focus on incredibly pressure and high combo counts, but have low health and poor defense to balance it out. basically speed demons
pizzano: SUPER ARMOR means you can hit him but it Will Not Stun Him. characters that super armor through shit are usually seen as Scary as Hell but also tend to be slower, big-body damage sponges. i think pizzano can move tho "this mf has divekicks" - this mf has divekicks "what if viewtiful joe was big and scary" - viewtiful joe is generally regarded to be a lower tier character in Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3: one of the smallest and slowest characters, with a lot of quirky bullshit that requires a lot of high execution but also a tv pose spotdodge (spotdodge: stay in place and avoid an attack). making vjoe 1. big 2. move better 3. not die instantly the second he gets touched by a magneto would create a horrifying force
gumbob: honest footsies gumbob he has a raging demon
stinky: usually characters with executional difficulty are higher up on the tierlist of a game (like arakune from blazblue and johnny and i-no from ggxrd), but sometimes this is not true (like angel from kof, who is the hardest character in the game to learn but considered one of the worst despite it all) i think stinky would be somewhere in the middle; a character that gives you arthritis to play and has a lot of expression, but gets shut down easy and can have his setups blow up in his face incredibly easy
if anyone else out there has any thoughts on this matter i would love to hear them. im insane.
(*) i dont actually hate pizzahead or anything i think hes really fun. he just baffles me in the way that hes popular and i think im just tired of seeing the popular depictions of him. godspeed pizzahead lovers do not hurl bricks at my window

Vergil: In the dark dimension, gaining power to fight Dante when this is over.

Love this!!! I would be sneaky and base if off the concept plot of DMC4 where thereās a cult that worships Eva instead of Sparda and ur main character is a new girl whoās been kidnapped by said cult. (love how every DMC thing introduces us to a new girly) Sheās gonna be used as sacrifice or vessel to āsummonā Eva (the cult is actually very dumb and theyāre being tricked into accidentally summoning the demon queen Lilith).
Her gameplay is more survival horror-esque cause sheās a regular human girly who canāt fight demons. She can also be able to summon assists. As she explores this big dumb castle/church/mansion idk sheās trapped in (think DMC1/Resident Evil) she comes across other girls who have been kidnapped to be used as sacrifices/vessels and one of those girls happens to be Patty and maybe Kyrie too? Maybe you can have some escort missions with kyrie and/or Patty as an assist as well? (Letās go DMC3 2-player modeā plug that second controller in!!) You also find Alastor, the sword for the DMC1 but he looks more personified, (think his viewtiful joe style) and maybe Ifrit and they can be an assists/summons.
Along the way of trying to find a way out our main girly hears whispers of the āSons of Spardaā being somewhere in the place and learns about the DMC lore of Sparda/Eva, Mundus, etc. continuing on she meets the other DMC ladies like Trish, Lady, Nico, Lucia, etc and theyāre also looking for Dante, Nero, and Vergil (spoilers the boys probably get kidnapped by the cult for SOMETHING idk but letās go reverse damsel in distresses!) Main girlie donāt give af tho cause sheās wants to get out of there and not die lol.
But ya big fight climax at the end of the game where the cult accidentally summons Lilith the demon queen from Hell and everyone is out for the count and itās up to our main girlie and some surprise help to defeat the demon queen! I love the way Bayonetta games psych you out at the end and have you play as a different character before the last battle and Iād love to incorporate that into the game as well. While exploring the mansion earlier, the main girl finds the ābracelet of Timeā from DMC1 (which was SUPPOSEDLY owned by Eva) summons either a young Eva who can fight or a Young Sparda who has just recently met and fallen in love with Eva, and helps our girl defeat Lilith and save the day. :)
DMC has surprisingly always been very supportive to women in a weird way so why not make one celebrating them? This would def be a spin off game tho and I wouldnāt even call it Devil May Cry, I would call it something else and be secretive about it but in the trailers show like the photo of Eva or maybe a two second shot of Trish and it would make people curious and then halfway through the game be like āSurprise! This is actually a DMC game :)ā
Spinoff Featuring One of the Ladies Question
A Devil May Cry spinoff that is set to be led by one the female cast has been announced, and they've asked you to make the game. Which of the women of Devil May Cry will you choose to be the main character? What other characters will you want to appear? What's the plot of the game? (You can also go deeper into gameplay mechanics if you desire.)
#sorry for the looooong response Iāve just always thought that it would be so intresting with DMC went with its original concepts#and also I love survival horror and game design lol

Feel compelled to say: despite him painting a big target on his bald head for no good reason, the sudden revisionism Iām seeing around Hideki Kamiyaās careerĀ is fucking stupid.
Hideki Kamiya is one of the best action directors in the industry: Resident Evil 2 is an all-time classic, Viewtiful Joe and The Wonderful 101 are both really cool and mechanically ambitious action games, Devil May Cry literally created and defined a genre, and letās not forget: the whole reason the situation with Hellena Taylor sucks so bad is because Bayonetta 3 is most likely going to be a really fucking good game, in large part due to the fact that Hideki Kamiya returned as director! Criticize him for his terminally online attitude, criticize him for being involved with an insulting decision, but donāt act like heās actually always been bad and treat him with the same level of scorn and derision that should be reserved for Activision and Blizzard executives.
On a similar note: attacking Jennifer Hale for taking the role of Bayonetta is also fucking stupid: considering that both Hale and Taylor are SAG-AFTRA union members and the official line was āscheduling conflictsā, itās very likely thatās also what Hale was told, and she would have had no reason to believe that Taylor got fucked over.
I know itās the internet and social media, but please: try to exhibit nuance.

V: You're back as 'Vinda Rosier' in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. This is a very interesting character that was introduced to us in the second instalment. What can you tell us about her journey in this third film?
POPPY: I have so much fun playing Vinda Rosier. She's a character who is unpredictable, who lurks on the periphery, observes others and is ready to pounce at any moment. Her loyalty to Grindelwald is absolute and in this film it does not waver. She is willing to carry out his dirty work with a style and a ferocity that is unnerving. The stakes are higher in this story and Grindelwald is no longer hiding in the shadows so we see him and his acolytes amongst the general population disrupting the peace for the pursuit of the so called 'Greater Good'.
V: Was this a character that required lots of research and preparation? How did you find Vinda's voice, her accent and the way she walks?
POPPY: It's funny because I just looked at my very first audition email for Fantastic Beasts 2 and the only character description that I had was 'cool but mean.' I guess I tried to run with that, and still am to this day haha!
Apart from the surname Rosier which relates to certain questionable characters in the Harry Potter world, there wasn't a huge amount of information to go on. She's an entirely new character devised for these films and therefore there was no source material to pull from. In a way that lack of material allowed the brilliant creativ team and I to mould her as we pleased free from an preconceived ideas.
One thing that I did find useful was that the name Rosier was Bellatrix Lestrange's mother's maiden name. That direct connection to such a brilliantly evil character was a really fun counterpoint to Vinda Rosier. Although her intentions are equally immoral and wicked, they are on the surface more refined and sophisticated than Bellatrix's and her psychopathic nature is not as external. It's that cool exterior that I've found so fun to play with. The 1920s/30s setting of these films has a lot to do with said cool and sophistication. The costumes devised by the inimitable Colleen Atwood have an elegance that totally informs the way I move and walk as Vinda Rosier, as do the stiletto shoes on my feet! As a character she doesn't often speak so much of the inten-tion comes through the eyes and the body language. I wanted to give her a cat like prowl and stare because as Grindelwald's extra pair of eyes, she is constantly observing, waiting for the perfect moment to unleash her cruelty and violence.

Marvel vs Capcom! The following fan art piece is one of thirteen that were made by individuals on Twitter who volunteered to give me ideas for dream Marvel vs Capcom match-ups. It didn't matter if the characters were in the games or not. There were seven sketches for runner-ups, and six completed pieces for the winners. (The contest is over so don't ask me to make one for you.)
ā
Top Six 5/6 -- Cable vs Saki
Saki actually doesn't want to fight in this situation, and instead, talk this out. Easier said than done when Cable sees you as a target. The man has a harder head than Wolverine with the focus of a sentinel. And despite all that's going on, Saki is still doing her best to fight smart and not stupid. Makes sense, she's from a quiz game after all.
This is probably the most action-packed piece I've made. Where to start? Cable has arrived in Saki's version of Japan during an invasion by Demon King Godiva. (The guy on the big screen in the back.) During the catastrophe, Saki is moving from rooftop to rooftop, and was sliding down the side of a collapsing building to confront the villain right as Cable appeared.
Why such an action-packed setting? I was inspired by an amazing, and criminally underrated, game that relates to neither Marvel or Capcom. A high-speed third-person shooter made by Platinum Games and owned by Sega named Vanquish. It's Gears of War meets Bayonetta, and I highly recommend it!
Anyway, references! Besides Godiva in the background, I decide to have fun regardless of realities. First off, and one of my favorite Marvel properties, Moon Knight in a Sailor Moon pose. Second, a dark and gritty reboot named Shin...Squirrel Girl? Sure, whatever. Third is Felicia from Darkstalkers in a cereal ad for Felicia Flakes and they probably taste grrrrreat! And the last two are logo cameos for Viewtiful Joe, my favorite Capcom series, and Marvel vs. Capcom.
One last thing for this piece. The image in Saki's visor is the mirrored image of the HUD from her game made from scratch.
