So… I have something to say and my friend encouraged me to do so😆 SO, I follow a "shawol" who I think it's well known, we actually come from the same country so we speak the same language. The fact is that she's actually a bad person, I mean I just read one of her tweet saying (and I translate word to word) "If you don't send those clowns to the military I'll become a beast" (she means that she'll get angry). So, I don't know who's she talking about, I think it's 🅱️ϯs cause they still didn't go to military. Anyway that's not the only thing. When some group does a cover of SHINee she always says things like "some weird people are covering SHINee, I muted/ blocked them" and things like that. Before I wrote "shawol" like this because to me it seems like she like more other groups than SHINee, I mean I do like NCT too (just to make an example) but it looks like she like them more than SHINee and I know she's been a fan since YEARS. That's to say, I don't like her, she says bad things about other groups, she only likes who she wants and says things that I think no one is interested in, I don't want to say who she is (maybe for now) but if I see that she wrote other mean things I'll expose her. I don't care, she's not a nice person (at least that's what I saw)

I know that it’s been quite some time since I’ve posted on my blog (and I’ll explain why in another post later today or tomorrow). But right now, I would like to say some things regarding to news of Jonghyun. I woke up this morning to very heartbreaking news and I’m truly sad for what happened.
I’m saying these words not as an EXO-L or kpop fan in general, but as a person who has suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts. I’ve been dealing with depression (and on some levels anxiety) since high school and am still learning how to accept this part of myself and handle my ups and downs.
Mental illnesses are silent beasts. Because there is no physicality to these kind of illnesses, many people don’t see or understand what’s going in our heads. Or, how close we are to the edge. It’s heart wrenching and truly upsetting that Jonghyun had reached that point, but please know that he is in a better place and not hurting anymore.
As fans, the only thing we see is their smile and success, but never what happens behind closed doors. Idols/celebrities are humans too. Humans with emotions that fluctuate from time to time. They are no different than anyone else and experience the same hardships of life. However, they are subjected to criticism and hate for their public image. Words are extremely powerful, especially in an age of social media and technology.
Many people will not understand how hard it is to keep going and perform daily tasks when dealing with a mental illness. Often times, we show others we are okay on the outside, but on the inside it’s a different story. Jonghyun always gave his best to his fans and it’s truly amazing to see how much love and support he gave (for LGTB+, mental illness, and anyone who was just different)...even though he was struggling.
For those who do struggle with mental illnesses, please don’t be afraid to speak and express how you feel. I know it’s hard to speak about it, I know it’s hard to explain it, I know it’s hard to accept it and ask for help... Your emotions are valid, you are human, it’s okay to not be okay, it’s okay to cry, you’re not broken, your mental health is important. Silence is strong and hits the heart harder when everything is said and done. Please know that they are people who care for you and want to help (including myself).
And for those who keep asking questions, “why, they had so much of this and that, what went wrong, how could this have happened”, you won’t ever fully understand the reason behind why a choice like this was made. Again, mental illness is not a physical illness, therefore no physical material that can “cure” it. It’s not something curable because it’s something deeper than the surface. There is so much that factors into the issue that you can never place one singular explanation. Instead of trying figure out why, take this chance to learn more about the issue and raise awareness. There are many people like Jonghyun who are suffering and need someone to talk to. People don’t choose to be this way and it’s hard to live everyday knowing that you’re not “normal” and “okay”. Mental illness affects everyday people and the people we see on the media. Whether it be a close friend or an online mutual, please listen and embrace those who struggle with mental illnesses.
I just want to thank all of you guys who have followed me up until now and have given me support despite my emotional episodes in my personal life. I hope you guys understand that your words and kindness are one of the handful of reasons why I still keep going. Why I continue pursuing art and why I continue to try and improve myself. It really does matter, so, I’m eternally thankful.
My condolences to Jonghyun, his family, Shinee and Shawols. I know this hurts the most for you since you’ve seen and known Jonghyun the most. Please know that Jonghyun is in a better place. Please let everyone know that mental illnesses are a real problem and there are many people who are in/was in Jonghyun’s position who are in the dark and suffering. I know it hurts now, so please take this time to let everything out.
Today may have been a sad day, but let’s take a step forward to improve the world for happier days.

15.08.11 - Minho Idol Star Athletic Championship
We're so close to the court that the next step is on his lap ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Minho arrived and he is SO HANDSOME ㅠㅠㅠ Wearing a black suit with a white shirt ㅠㅠㅠ
He hugged Ravi from VIXX and the BEAST members told him to be careful ;;
Shawols are calling him 선생님 (seonsaengnim) because of the clothes ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
He was really surprised to see so many of us and laughed shyly everytime we react to whatever he does ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
That's pretty funny how we have all the idols sitting right in front of us but we don't care ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Beautys and Shawols are the loudest and the cameraman like to play with us to make us scream ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
The leader of Minho's team is wearing a sticker with Minho's face on his arm ㅋㅋㅋ
They're talking about how Minho is a role model for them ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
Minho is so into the game that he goes into the court without realizing it ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
He takes care of his team members like an older brother ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
Minho's team lost the first match ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
Minho's team lost ㅜㅠㅠㅠ
Minho came to wave at us into our area ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
We were so loud during the whole game that we shocked the other idols, orher fandoms and the staff ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

[ZHIHU ARTICLE] 2016 Male Group Annual Report
Aeriverse Translation Team chloesapphire xplatinumheart (t/n: This article is considerably long and does contain a fair bit of non exo related discussion. And so to counter yall skipping over this masterpiece we have highlighted all exo related sections for your convenience. ) [ZHIHU] 2016 Male Group Annual Report original author: 李迪亚
This is the extension, additional and modified version of the answers I wrote under the questions raised by the discussion of "South Korean First/Second-Line Male Groups". As a summary for the end of 2016, no matter what awards, summaries, predictions, I have accounted for it all here. If that stupid hat* doesn’t give SNSD and EXO comebacks within a month, I might not reply to questions for a while. : ) *t/n: 'stupid hat' in chinese is 'sha mao' --> 's m'. The principles are the same as before, I will be using statistics as my main discussion point, I might discuss the performance of individual groups and cautiously speculate on their future development. My point is, I want world piece. I won’t be including groups from older generations, Shinhwa is still having steady comebacks, their performance is also equally as steady, this week they even managed to receive a first place on inkigayo. SECHSKIES coming back this year was a huge event, but even then Jekki’s comeback, compared to those children who are fighting hard for their career, they still have different mind sets, they don’t even have the same goal, the only year end awards they received are awards such as ‘Credit’ Awards, so I won’t put them together. Generally speaking, 2016 was the year of girl groups. Compared to the explosion of girl groups this year, boy groups have still followed the same pattern as the years preceding. The Digital Aspect. When you're missing Big Bang -the exception when it comes to digital records- and when you're missing last year EXO's Call Me Baby which skyrocketed up the charts to 7th place, the boy group digital records this year have once again followed the same pattern as before. In the end of year charts, only 6 boy group songs managed to enter into the top 100. And even amongst that, a good majority have placed near the end: The top digital boy group placing is Toy (Block B) at 49th, next is EXO's Monster which places at 60th, and then taking a huge leap to 87th is BTS's Fire, 90th is EXO's Dancing King, 91st is BTS's Blood Sweat and Tears, 97th is Winner's Sentimental and then that's it, that's it.... Of course, if you include collaborations and solo acts, Block B and EXO's digital 'scores' will increase a lot. ZICO's hit singles, Baekhyun and Jongdae's popular collaborations, popular OSTs can all be placed in the top 30s, making the digitals a bit better to look at. Sales wise, the 'standard' for boy groups has increased drastically. In past years, having sales of around 200,000 would keep you at 6-7th place, in this year this would mean you'd be out of the top 10... So far, it's quite easy to separate boy groups into the following levels. Stable Boy Group Level. Album sales at around 100,000. Trending Boy Group Level. Album sales at an average of around 200k, annual cumulative sales at around 400k. Bangtan Special Level. Annual cumulative sales have finally broken 1 million, the album released in the second half of the year managed to double the sales of the album released in the first half of the year. I don't know how much percent this 750k reflected on the power of Armies, will their next album break 1 million sales, steady at around 700k or drop a little, falling to 500-600k? Let's wait and see. The EXO Level is a level that leaves people in despair. They have once again risen the bar with album sales: the 3rd album steadying at 1.1+ million and the group annual cumulative sales of over 1.5+ million, they even f*cking managed to have a 270k male solo sales record and a debut sub-unit album record with similar sales. A whole new record of 2.13 million physical album sales, I think EXO-Ls are probably gifted and each one of them has 8 kidneys*. Ah… *t/n: it’s a common joke in china (and probably other places too) to say that your kidney equals your wallet Now let's talk about group performance. The following information is relevant up untill 20/1/17. This decision is based upon 2 aspects: the 4 main daesangs of the year have already been chosen and this week's music shows already feature songs from 2017, that is to say the results of all works released in 2016 have already settled. Main results are based on the following: The 4 Big Music Shows (MCountdown, MBC Music Core, Music Bank, Inkigayo) + the 2 new music shows (the show, the show champion). No. of First Places + Year End 4 Biggest Awards (GDA, SMA, MAMA, MMA), the new awards show that was implemented this year, AAA, will not be counted. The statistics for 2016 are as follows, the order is basically according to results (BIGBANG being the exception, putting them last as a placeholder): In 2016, there have been 21 boy groups who have had come backs and have also achieved at least a first place/year end award. According to 2016's statistics, the following trends are worth noting. Number 1. Groups that debuted before and in 2010 are still active and can still, to this day, achieve reasonable results. This is all thanks to their solid results back in the day, these groups were groups that used to stand at the very top and some even higher than that. Amongst them, the most active ones are SHINee, followed by CNBlue, Infinite, Beast and FTIsland. But it's plainly obvious that this year we have experienced falls in results of varying degree: In the year end awards, SHINee only managed to receive a bonsang, but the popularity award battle really showed the dedication and longevity of shawols. Ever since CNBlue's debut this is the first time they haven't been awarded a bonsang. Infinite who, in previous years, was a reasonably steady competitor for multiple bonsangs only managed to receive one this year. Beast, who’s speciality is music shows, only managed to receive two first places… This generation of trending boy groups are slowly giving way to the new generation, most likely caught between contract renewals and military service, the time to test the loyalty of fans has come. BIGBANG is an exception. This 10 year old senior group is as steady as a mountain, easily obtaining 8 first places on the 3 big music shows, you can say that this is their perfect ending before their military enlistment. Number 2. Groups debuting between 2011-12 (Block B, B1A4, Teen Top, BTOB, B.A.P, VIXX) are in their stable period of development. The groups with particularly outstanding results are Block B, achieving the best digital ranking for any male idol group this year (49th), VIXX’s frequent comebacks, though they've only received one first place on the 3 big music shows, they did achieve a consecutive winning streak of 8 on The Show and Show Champion, and are also the only 2012 and onward group, excluding EXO, that has achieved more than 25 first places, proving them to be a solid group. Other group's activities didn’t cause that much of a commotion, a normal comeback only getting around 1-3 first places. In this period, group solo activities have also taken a leap. Generally speaking, in the group there will be one/a few solos that stand out the most. For example, Block B’s ZICO and Park Kyung, B1A4’s Jinyoung , BTOB’s Sungjae, etc. Amongst them, ZICO’s digital scores exploded, achieving male solo artist related awards and a bonsang. His solo, collaborations, compositions and digital placings have all been fantastic, he is probably one of the only idols, following GD, that have left such an impact. But of course, I must say that EXO is an exception to this pattern. Number 3. Groups debuting from 2014-15: WINNER/GOT7/iKON/SEVENTEEN/MONSTA X Amongst them the ones that stand out the most are GOT7 and SVT. This year Got7 has received 6 first places from the 3 big music shows, no matter if you add the other 2 music shows, their results can definitely place them within the top 3. They have formed the final point of the triangle with BTS and EXO when it comes to MAMA voting. They are first when it comes to overseas popularity voting and have also pressured Bangtan into second when it comes to Male Dance, you can clearly see they’re a trending idol group. Seventeen has been attracting fans rapidly, their sales are at a steady 3rd place behind the double eggs*, they really are the dignity of Pledis. It is worth anticipating whether or not these two bands will be able to advance further in 2017. *t/n: in china a cute nickname for exo is 'tea egg' (chā dàn). bangtan's chinese name is pronounced as 'fāng dàn'. the 'dàn' has the same pronunciation as the word 'egg'. That's why fans call exo & bts 'double egg'. WINNER experienced a massive change in 2016, hopefully they’ll be able to reignite their flame in 2017. Last year iKON managed to sweep the 4 big rookie awards, but this year however, their comeback was not as active, but when they did comeback it’s a guaranteed first place, hopefully in 2017 we’ll be able to see them produce a hit. My heart aches for MONSTA X, they’ve already accepted the “NEXT GENERATION” award and other similar awards for two years. The future is yours, but when will that future come….. Number 4. It is sad that groups debuting in 2016 did not leave as big of an impact. In the year end awards, only our NCT dongsaengs could really live up to the name of the rookie awards. And for ASTRO’s SMA Hallyu Popularity Special award, well let’s just treat it as a little promotion for these rookies. Number 5. The one group that gained the most popularity, instantly shooting to the top this year would have to go to BTS who debuted in 2013. Their international results not only are creating new records, their overseas impact is also extremely noteworthy. This year they have finally managed to take 2 daesangs from EXO’s hands, though there was a heated war over this, their standing has definitely been lifted. Looking at their results, they have indeed improved in all areas, further minimising the gap between them and EXO. From not being able to even see their shadows, they’ve at least caught up to being countable by body shape.* From the yearly results, no matter if it’s digital, sales, first places or awards received, they have steadied at around half of EXO’s results. The 2016 talk about them becoming EXO’s neck-to-neck rivals may have been a bit early, especially considering they boasted and praised but then in the year end awards they gained no popularity award, honestly it is just a tiny bit embarrassing. If they can maintain this alarming growth in 2017, when the end of 2017 rolls around we might be able to see them face EXO head on, whether they will go hand in hand or overtake, let’s just listen to destiny. *t/n: what the author is trying to explain here is that though they've indeed minimised the gap, there still is quite some distance between them. Lastly, it is once again EXO. The 4 big award shows' daesang All Kill, the 3 big award shows' daesang consecutively for 4 years All Kill. Their solo work, collaborations, individual activities have all achieved outstanding results. Their total sales of 2.13 million have once again broken records, becoming the highest in history. Voting is, as always, “if it isn’t me, who else can it be?”. They are the only boy group in 2016 that has 15+ first places, and including collaborations it would be 24 first places overthrowing TWICE to stand at second place (First is GFriend)….. In 2016, no matter what you say, standing at the top of South Korea’s boy groups, standing at the highest peak of the Idol Industry, it’s still them. There are always people who want to discuss the question regarding EXO’s historical status. This question is in fact extremely difficult to answer. Subjectively speaking, if you’ve stanned a group that has reached the peak, you might think that your idols are indeed the best of the best. This can’t be discussed, so to this question, the only thing I can do is give statistics. If you think the statistics that have piled up to last year are not enough, then I’ll count them all the way to this year. I think, for these 6-7 categories, close to all of them are extremely unique. If you still think this can not explain the question, there might be another really big reason reason why and it’s a reason a subjective view can not have. Let’s look at the Cumulative situation of various groups since 2006. (statistics are taken from the beginning of 2006, so TVXQ has incomplete data. This is only to pay tribute to the top groups. Previously these statistics had multiple errors, I have now corrected them.)
In 2016, when it comes to “Making Historical Records”, I believe the following are what really matter: International Records: BTS’s second full album placed 26th on Billboard’s album charts, becoming South Korea’s highest ever ranking in history. Domestic Records: EXO: 3 consecutive full length albums breaking 1 million sales, a first in South Korean history. EXO: Group + Sub-unit + Solo album cumulative sales around 2.13 million, the only one in Gaon chart’s history. EXO: Receiving the daesang award for 4 years consecutively in SMA/GDA/MAMA. The first '4 consecutive crown' in SMA/GDA/MAMA history. The first '4 consecutive daesangs' on the 3 big awards show All Kill. EXO: The first artist to receive ‘Artist of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Album of the Year’ in MMA history. EXO: 16 Daesangs. The first idol group to have this many daesangs.* *t/n: this author does not count AAA daesangs, hence 16. EXO: 88 group first places. The first male idol group in history to have this many first places, placing second amongst ALL idols (First place is of course SNSD. Main group has 98 firsts. In 2017, we can hopefully expect both SNSD and EXO to aim towards 100 first places.) —— The above is what EXO has achieved in their 5th year since debut. The records they surpassed, some have been their own, some have been records set by groups 10 years their senior. As I said before, previously they had only experienced steady popularity and an ever-changing Top Position, but now, EXO is most definitely well on their way to becoming the very TOP. Everyone following South Korea’s Kpop industry is probably wondering, “Will 2017 still be their year?” There are already people who are bored, people who are not satisfied, people who are itching to have a go, people who have gotten close to them before moving far. And those who have always loved them. Boy group fans, compared to girl group fans, have a much more intense enthusiasm when it comes to the peak of their idol's popularity, but they also seem to have a better longevity of love for their idols even when it comes to phases of stability. In 2017, many legendary household names will come back, this legend wants to continue, the future trending groups want to challenge, they want to break through, to climb higher. This is probably a test of enthusiasm and loyalty, as well as a year to prove which act has a better power. It is not only the literal winning or losing, its more of about those who have been touched, as if seeing their own moments into the future, or maybe even into the past. I very much look forward to it.

Hello.
I am only making this post to clear my mind. Forgive me for this being very unorganized.
On the 18th of December, Kim Jonghyun of SHINee has passed away.
I. I personally don’t know how to process this. I’m still in the process of processing this. I’ve been going from denial to acceptance to denial again.
I’ve been a kpop fan from 2009 until now, with a hiatus from 2012 to 2014. I was originally a Cassie, a TVXQ fan. When Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu left the group, I was completely devastated. I was broken, I cried nonstop, I had tantrums. I was in utter denial they weren’t going to be in the group anymore.
I found solace in the groups active back then -- mostly in 4Minute, Beast/Highlight, and of course, SHINee.
I started to be a Shawol a little after Juliette era, and I absolutely loved them. They’re all amazing singers and performers, but it was their personalities that drew me in to them so much.
Even after I’ve switched to other groups, I’ve cared about all of them deeply. It always made my heart warm seeing them on my twitter timeline or tumblr dashboard still being themselves after all these years. They were a huge part of my life early on and you could imagine how devastating this is to me. I’m sure other people are more devastated, but it’s still very very painful.
My first reaction was nonchalance.
I only greeted him a peaceful death and moved on.
Next was devastation.
I deleted my tweet and just retweeted positive things directed to him and all the people that care about him.
Then the denial, acceptance and denial cycle kicked in.
During the first 3 hours after the news I’ve held on this tiny sliver of hope that he was still okay since SM Ent. hasn’t confirmed anything. And when it was confirmed it’s like I was being choked; every breath I took was heavy and it was like I didn’t deserve any of the air I’m breathing in. A beautiful soul like him deserved it more than me. He has done so much to make sure everyone was welcomed, everyone felt alright with themselves. This stigma South Korea has with mental illnesses is very limiting, and him being open about his own struggles has become some sort of light in the darkness for some. He was truly an inspiration to all, the epitome of an “idol”.
I need to learn to accept that he’s gone, that he’s not going to be on stage again. I need to accept this reality, and I’m slowly, slowly working on that.
I’m obviously not 100% alright, and if ever you think this is overwhelming you, please please try to calm yourself down. Please think of your health first. My ask box and messages are open if you need/want to talk to someone.
I’m leaving things that have touched me below the cut.
I’ll be alright, you’ll be alright, we’ll all be alright.

K-Pop has lost a great talent. Kim Jonghyun, has (mostly likely as of now) committed suicide. Our hearts are heavy with the many SHAWOLs/Blingers, SHINee and his family/loved ones. We are honored that we had the opportunity to see him perform with SHINee a year ago at KCON2016. We are sadden that we won’t hear his voice again. Jonghyun, we are sorry that you were going through so much and we are sadden that you took your life. You will be missed by millions, but we know you will be missed the most by your family and close friends. Rest In Peace, Bling Bling Jonghyun. Depression is serious issue and a lot of the time the ones suffering tend to hide it until they hit their breaking point. Usually the breaking point end with committing suicide. We, most of, if not all, the girls of GIAKPW, have/has gone through depression and most of us had K-Pop to help us through it. SHINee was one of the groups that got us into the wonderful family of K-Pop and we are shaken and filled with sorrow that one of the singers that helped us go through our depression, has lost his fight to it. We encourage anyone fighting this to keep fighting! Please know you’re not alone and others are fighting this beast of depression as well. Find someone to talk to, may it be a friend, sibling or even your parent/guardian. You never know that they might have fought depression as well.
