I know for a fact that James once told Regulus this: "Baby, tell me when you're ready, I'm waitin'. Baby, any time you're ready, I'm waitin'. Even ten years from now, if you haven't found somebody, I promise I'll be around."
Ten years from then, as they get married, James repeats it during his vows, claiming how much Regulus is worth of all his waiting. And now, he doesn't have to wait anymore, because eternity belongs to them.

When You're Ready
~When You're Ready by Shawn Mendes~
Author's Note: requested! not entirely proud of how this turned out but enjoy! italics are flashbacks as always Summary: Luke drunkenly confesses his feelings for his friend. Warnings: ermmmm idk Word Count: 4,275
Luke was drunk, probably the most drunk he’s been since the frat parties back at UMich. He was leaning against the bar, not sleepy but was definitely feeling dizzy. He was only allowed water because Jack was getting protective over him.
Jack leaned against the wall, in the corner of the bar beside Luke. His phone was against his ear as he was listening to it ring and ring.
“Jack?” Y/N let out sleepily.
“Hey! Luke is shitfaced right now, I would offer to take care of him but-” Jack paused as a giggle fell from his lips, “I’m also pretty fucking shitfaced and waiting for my girlfriend,” he explained.
“Is that Y/N? Can I talk to her!” Luke shot up, a wide grin on his lips. Jack nodded, but kept the phone against his own ear. Luke whined as he reached his hand over.
“I guess he can stay in my guest room. Just give me like twenty minutes,” she mumbled before she hung up the phone. Jack’s lips curled up into a grin as he shoved his phone back into his pocket.
Luke lifted up the glass of water and drank a long sip before he cautiously placed it back down onto the counter. “Y/N is taking you back to her place,” Jack offered as he brought his beer towards his lips.
“Aw man, I missed her. We’ve been traveling so much,” Luke offered as he shook his head slowly. His head moved delayed to either direction.
“Are you going to tell her?” Jack drunkenly let out while he patted his hand against Luke’s back.
“Will not,” he said simply.
“C’mon!” Jack pleaded as he continued to hit his hand against Luke’s back. “S-see I knew she li-liked you because she’s coming here at-” he trailed off searching for a clock, “What ever time it is.”
“Don’t want to talk about it, let me drink more booze,”
“No, Lukey you’re cut off,” Jack demanded.
“Me? You’re the one sl-slurring your words!” Luke said, pausing he realized he slurred too. The brothers began giggling.
Jack gasped as he scooted back away from the bartop. He smiled widely as he walked quickly towards his girlfriend entering the bar. “My girlfriend!” he let out happily as he shoved passed many drunk people. She giggled loudly as Jack happily wrapped his arms around her pulling her tightly towards him. “Come on, let’s go,” Jack muttered.
“Let’s wait for Y/N to get Luke,” she mumbled as she met his gaze. Jack groaned as he wandered towards Luke.
Luke lifted his gaze, clenching his jaw as he smiled towards the pair. “He’s pretty drunk,” Luke observed. She rolled her eyes as she leaned against the bar. Jack rested his hand onto her lower back.
“I figured, thanks Luke,” she let out while laughing.
Y/N was convinced that this party was going to actually ruin her whole mood. She was not a fan of giant crowds, especially a huge crowd of people whom she barely even knew.
But Courtney was so sure that she would have fun, despite Courtney knowing everyone there. Well she’s only met a handful of the people at the party a few times but her boyfriend knew everyone. Which meant Courtney knew everyone. She never told Y/N who her new mystery man was. Even though the pair had been going on for months at this point.
Courtney needed it to be secret, so secret that she would never tell anyone. Courtney and Y/N sat in the back seat of the car as they headed towards her boyfriend’s apartment.
“So we’re going to his place and then the night club? Can’t we meet there?” Y/N groaned as she leaned her head against the headrest. It was safe to say, she was already tipsy and not in the mood for extra work.
“You have to meet him,” she argued.
The Uber pulled off to the side of the road, in front of a building that was definitely out of either of their price range. They stepped out of the Uber and Courtney began walking towards the building like it wasn’t her first time. Y/N stayed put as her eyes scanned the building.
“You forgot to mention he was rich,” Y/N mumbled as her gaze finally landed on Courtney.
“He’s not rich, he has money there is a different,” she explained while wrapping her arm around Y/N’s before she guided them towards the entrance.
“I feel like you just said the same thing,” Y/N mumbled while laughing. Courtney rolled her eyes as they stepped inside of the building.
The walls were dark blue, with white tile on the floor. There was white curtains from the ceiling to the floor. The dark blue couches look like they’ve never been sat on but they were giant.
“Courtney, you can head straight up,” the doorman said excitedly.
“Thank you, Danny,” she let out happily as she pressed the up button towards the elevator.
Y/N leaned towards her, “How often are you here?” she whispered.
“Often,” she mumbled.
The elevator ride was fast as they were only heading up a handful of floors. The fifth floor was the same decor as the lobby but less extravagant. The walk to the apartment was fast as it was only three doors down. She knocked four times.
After a few seconds, the door was swung open and to Y/N’s surprise it was John Marino. “This is John?” Y/N let out quietly.
The music poured into the hallway. The music was not usual party music but it was loud and music she usually enjoys.
“Hey baby,” John let out as he reached towards Courtney, he wrapped his arms around her. Pulling her towards him, he smiled towards Y/N, “Y/N, it’s great to finally meet you,” John said as he motioned for her to step inside. Slowly, she walked inside beside John and Courtney.
“Nice to-uh meet you too,” she let out shyly. Her eyes started to scan the room noticing two more Devils players sitting around the room. One with a gorgeous blonde girl in his lap and the other was sitting on a couch by himself. She wished she was not fan girling while in the room but she was.
Luke Hughes looked up, meeting her gaze. She felt her heart jump in her chest as she met his gaze. His cheeks pinked up but he quickly shifted his gaze down towards his phone.
Courtney slipped away from John’s grasp and walked back towards Y/N. She wrapped her arm around Y/N’s. “You should’ve brought up the whole Devils player thing,” she whispered, her gaze shifting around the room.
Luke’s eyes widened as a grin formed to his lips. He saw Y/N enter the bar. Jack’s girlfriend wandered towards her, leaving the boys to themselves.
“How bad is it?” Y/N asked teasingly.
“They’re trashed,” she said simply. Y/N tossed her head back while laughing.
“Alright, I’ll go take care of Luke,” Y/N let out, a smile on her lips. Jack’s girlfriend’s eyebrows raised as she held a smirk on her lips. “Oh shush,” she muttered as she pushed through the crowd to reach Luke. He was resting his head on his hands, his eyes starting to shut.
A sleepy smirk formed to his lips as his eyes were open slightly. “Y/N, you came!” he let out excitedly. “I’ve missed you,” he let out. She rolled her eyes as she stood in front of him. Resting her hand onto the bartop, she tilted her head to the side to try and meet his gaze.
Jack and his girlfriend had already slipped out of the bar, leaving Y/N and Luke alone.
“And you’re in your pajamas,” he observed, his sleepy gaze scanned her frame. Her body was covered with an old thin long sleeve top with a pair of sweatpants. She took a hold of his arm, helping him stand. He leaned against her, using her to help him walk.
“Come on, let’s get you home,” she mumbled as they continued through the bar, shoving through people to go to the entrance.
It was a quick and easy exit out of the bar, her car was parked directly on the street. Luke was still using her to help guide him as he walked. “You’re a great person, Y/N,” he mumbled.
“Thank you, Luke,” she mumbled while laughing. Slowly pulling away from him, he stood on his own. Stepping back, she tilted her head to the side meeting his gaze. He shoved his hands deep into his pockets as he leaned his head back. His lips curled upward slightly as he admired her frame. “What?” she let out shyly.
“You look beautiful,” he mumbled. Y/N smiled softly, knowing the words leaving his lips were drunken thoughts. “I meant as a friend, you know like because fri-friends can say that stuff. Can th-they say stuff like that?” he ranted nervously.
“Friends can call each other beautiful,” Y/N said as she met his gaze. He smirked as he ran his tongue across his lips.
“Well then,” he muttered as he took a step towards her, “How come you never called me beautiful?” he teased.
She rolled her eyes playfully as she pursed her lips forward, “You’re very beautiful, Luke,” she let out. His lips curled up into a toothy grin.
“Thank you,” he sing-songed.
She met his gaze and watched the drunkenness take over in his eyes. With each blink it was evident he was getting more and more exhausted. She ran her fingers through her hair as she pointed towards the passenger seat door.
“You going to get in the car?” she asked him teasingly. He took a small step towards her. Biting his bottom lip, he was taking in a deep breath. “I mean I did practically carry you out of the bar,”
“You did not,”
“I absolutely did, walk in a straight line right now,” she let out laughing. He straightened his body as he confidently walking towards the passenger seat of the car.
His steps were definitely not in a straight line but as he leaned against the car door, he nodded proudly.
“Wow, that was horrible,” she teased.
Dropping his gaze to the concrete, he shook his head while chuckling. “Yeah, n-not my best work,” he said as he flung his head back up. He pulled on the door handle, opening the door. Smiling towards him she excitedly walked around towards the driver’s side of the car.
Y/N sat down on the couch beside Courtney. Her and John were not sitting close, almost on purpose to push her towards Luke. He lifted his gaze from his phone a handful of times to meet her gaze. Shyly, she avoided his eye as much as possible.
It started to feel like a set up. Everyone was in their own couple. It left Luke and Y/N to talk. Except they were not doing much talking.
Y/N was still freaking out that she was sat beside him and he was freaking out because if Jack and John were setting him up with someone, she could’ve been a little less hot.
A little less intimidating because he couldn’t focus.
Or maybe it was because there was too much alcohol in his system, he couldn’t tell.
He knew he would get made fun of for the whole night if he didn’t speak to her but right now it was too intimate.
“Okay, our Ubers are here,” Jack jumped up, keeping his hand loosely around his girlfriend’s waist.
John did the same thing. Luke and Y/N stood up, sharing awkward glances. They both started walking towards the exit, side by side.
Reaching towards the door, he pulled it open, she smiled politely towards him. He slowly shut the door behind him and they continued down the hallway.
“Are we being set up?” she asked, pointing her finger between herself and him. Luke let out a nervous chuckle as he shoved his hands into his pocket.
“I wish I knew,” Luke rolled his eyes playfully, “With those two who knows.”
He pressed his lips together as he met her gaze for a few seconds.
“I wish I knew my roommate was dating one of you guys, that would have been a nice heads up,” she explained.
“Wait, Court and John have been together for almost four months and you had no idea,” Luke questioned, crossing his arms over his chest. She nodded dramatically. “How did you not know, you guys live together?” he let out while laughing.
She took a deep breath as she fought the smirk forming to her lips, “It just so happens that I grew up a huge Devils fan,” she mumbled. Luke’s eyes widened as he grinned.
“Oh so you’ve been silently freaking out since you stepped into the door,” he teased.
“Have not,” she muttered crossing her arms over her chest.
“You want an autograph?” he teased. She shoved him away from her while laughing.
She happily sat down in the driver seat and quickly turned on her car. Heat blasted through the vents to warm the cold air inside of the car. Luke was watching her every move, his eyes dragged as he scanned her frame.
She stared towards her phone as she tried to find the perfect playlist. She played her own favorites mix before she rested it into an empty cup holder. Putting the car into drive, she pulled away from the bar.
“You need my address?” he asked before swallowing hard. She glanced towards him, smirking slightly before she looked back towards the road. He pressed his lips together while shutting his eyes.
“I think I got it,” she let out laughing.
Furrowing his eyebrows harshly, he tilted his head back against the headrest, “I can’t believe you went to the bar in your pajamas,”
Her mouth fell open as she fought off the grin forming to her lips, ‘Clearly you’ve forgotten, I was asleep!”
“Right,” he muttered. He stared towards his hands as he took in long breaths. She pulled up to a red light, shifting her gaze towards him.
“What’s on your mind?” she mumbled. He shrugged as he continued to stare down towards his lap, “Luke?” she asked again.
It was a fast friendship. It seemed like out of no where they were inseparable. Ever since that night at the club, where they drunkenly danced together the whole night they’ve been inseparable.
Tonight was no different, Luke was coming home from a game where they lost. He was not in a great mood but he knew that Y/N could make him feel better. Ever since he met her, he found himself gravitating towards her whenever he was in a bad mood. Whenever he was sad she made him feel better.
He texted her that he was waiting outside of her apartment and she happily shot up from her couch. She walked towards the door pulling it open to reveal Luke. He was wearing a hoodie and a pair of sweats as he walked inside, holding his arms open. She smiled towards him as he wrapped his arms around him. Sinking into his chest, she let the door shut behind him.
“Is Courtney here?” he asked as he rested his hand onto the back of her head as he caressed her hair. Shaking her head, she slowly pulled away from him. “Are you sure it’s okay that I’m here?”
“Always,” she mumbled as she met his gaze for a few seconds before she began to walk backwards towards her bedroom, “Let’s watch a movie,”
His lips curled upward into a small smile as he followed after her, digging his hands deep into her pocket. He followed after her, his gaze trailing her frame as she guided him towards her bedroom.
She pushed the door open as she dropped down onto the bed. Luke stood in the doorway, admiring her from the small distance.
“You can lay down y’know,” she teased as she patted the empty space beside her.
He walked around the bed and cautiously laid down beside her.
“Any recommendations?” she offered as she met his gaze. He pouted his lips forward as he shook his head. He turned his body to the side, facing her. Looking down towards him, she turned her head to the side as she felt her lips curl upward.
“Harry Potter?” he asked softly.
Furrowing her eyebrows she shifted her body towards him. They laid face to face, their noses nearly bumping one another with how close they are.
“You can’t just watch a Harry Potter movie, you have to watch them all,” she offered as she found her gaze lowering towards his lips.
“I don’t have plans tomorrow,” he offered teasingly.
“You know, I think you’re beautiful in like a not a-a friend way,” Luke let out, he lifted his gaze to meet her eye. Her eyes widened slightly as she continued to look into his eye. “That’s obvious to you right?” Luke let out.
She took a deep breath as she watched the light turn green through the corner of her eye. She began to speed ahead with her heart beating faster and faster. “Luke, you know, I don’t have time for a relationship right now. With work and school, I barely have time for a social life-”
“I know, which is why I never said anything.” he let out, he swallowed hard as he shyly shifted his gaze down towards his lap. He took a deep breath, “I know I’m drunk or whatever but you’re literally everything I’ve ever wanted, you know that?”
She took a right turn into the parking garage beneath his apartment. “Luke,”
“I’m serious-”
“You won’t even remember this conversation tomorrow,”
“When you’re ready or when you think you have time for one, I’m right ‘ere,” he explained as he lifted his gaze again. She pulled into a guest parking spot and quickly put the car into park. “I’ll always be waiting for you because you cannot tell me you don’t feel the same way. You can’t look me in the eyes and tell me you don’t want to kiss me,”
“Luke-”
“But if it’s forever that I have to wait for you, I’ll wait because you are worth waiting a lifetime for,” he further explained as he looked deeply into her eyes. She took a deep breath as she pressed her lips together.
“You don’t know what you’re saying right now,” she expressed as she turned her body to face him.
“I know exactly what I’m saying because I haven’t stopped thinking about it for months. I mean come on, Y/N, look me in the eye and tell me it hasn’t crossed your mind,”
“You know I can’t,” she mumbled.
“So whenever you’re ready, I’m waiting,” he said as he leaned his head against the window.
“Let’s get you up to bed and then when you’re sober let’s have this conversation,” she explained as she unbuckled her seatbelt and opened the door harshly. Luke unbuckled his seatbelt and climbed out of the car.
He stumbled out of the car, nearly falling over. “See-” she barked out a laugh, “How am I supposed to take you seriously when you are this drunk!” she took a hold of his arm, he looked down towards her as he allowed her to guide him towards the elevator.
~
The walk towards the apartment was fast while getting Luke ready for bed was another story. He kept making jokes about her taking his clothes off and helping him get into a pair of sweats to help him get comfortable. Or chug a bottle of water and eat a handful of snacks.
He laid beneath the comforter, shirtless and whining. “You have to stay,” he called out, reaching his hands towards her. Letting him take a hold of her hand, he interlocked their fingers. She would be lying if she said she didn’t feel her heart flutter at the sudden touch.
“Luke, I want to sleep in my own bed,” she told him as she looked into his eyes.
“But you’ve slept in my bed before, what’s wrong with doing that tonight? I me-mean you’re already in your pajamas it’s perfect,” he explained, swinging their hands.
“Well you brought up some things that make this weird,”
“Only weird if you make it weird,” he offered teasingly. She took a deep breath as she continued to look into his eyes, they squinted slightly as he leaned his head back against the head board.
“You’re the one that made this weird, by the way,” she said sarcastically as she climbed over him to lay beside him in the bed. Slowly, she climbed under the comforter and rolled onto her side to meet his gaze.
“I just put the truth into the universe,” he teased while pursing his lips forward. She rolled her eyes dramatically as she rolled onto her back.
“Good night Luke,” she mumbled. He took in a sharp breath as he fell onto his back as well.
“Good night,”
~~~
The following morning, Y/N woke up before Luke. She tiptoed out of the bedroom towards the living room. Which was always surprisingly clean. It was early enough, she figured Luke would be asleep for several more hours, especially with how drunk he was towards the end of the night.
She walked into the kitchen to make herself a cup of coffee, it wasn’t the first time she would wake up before Luke and make herself at home. Luke would be more upset if he found out she stayed in bed waiting for him to wake up to get ready for the day.
She leaned back against the counter as she watched the Kurig pour into the small red mug. Her mind wandered around the words Luke said last night. There was no way Luke would remember everything he said.
Maybe he would remember some of it but she was convinced he didn’t. She barely had time to spend with him as a friend let alone the effort a relationship has to have.
She couldn’t put that effort in right now, but was he genuine with saying he would wait? She didn’t want a relationship until after school, she still had a year and a hlaf left.
She took the cup from the Kurig and she secured it with both of her hands as she wandered towards the couch.
It was another hour of her scrolling on her phone and finishing her cup of coffee when Luke stumbled out of the room. His hair was slightly messy but he did not look worse for wear. He stood at the start of the hallway, watching her for a moment.
Lifting her gaze she saw him standing there, she brought her hand towards her chest as she giggled. “Scared the hell out of me,” she muttered.
“Sorry,” he let out as he walked towards her. He sat down beside her, keeping a whole cushion between them.
They stayed silent for a moment as they let the awkward tension fill the air.
She swallowed hard as she delicately placed the mug onto the coffee table, “So, how hungover are you?” she questioned, trying to break some of the tension.
He chuckled as he ran his hand across his chin, “Actually not that bad,” he mumbled. She nodded as she kept her gaze towards her lap. He pressed his lips together as he took another deep breath, “I’m waiting,” he let out as he tilted his head to the side. She furrowed her eyebrows. He smirked as he looked into her eyes.
“Oh, yeah, that conversation we had last night; that you swore I wasn’t going to remember. I remember every word-well okay, not every word but I remember it all-most of it. So-um I guess it’s-yeah you’re turn,” he ranted.
She smiled as she continued to look into his eye as she took in a sharp breath as she stood up from the couch and walked towards him. Standing over him, she started to climb into his lap. He leaned back, cautiously hovering his hands in the air.
“I don’t know about a relationship,” she began as she rested her hands on the base of his neck, her thumbs grazing the side of his neck briefly. “But I’ve been dying to kiss you,” she muttered. He smiled as she leaned towards him, kissing him urgently.
The kiss was electrifying as Luke finally rested his hands onto her hips. Leaning into him, the kiss was everything that either of them were waiting for.
“Yet,” she muttered against his lips.
“What?” he mumbled as he leaned towards her, desperate to feel her lips against his again. She returned the kiss for a few seconds before she pulled away.
“Can you wait a little longer?” she mumbled against his lips.
“Can we at least do this?” he pleaded. She leaned towards him kissing him urgently, pulling his bottom lip into her mouth as she ran her fingers through his hair.
They stayed in that position for a long time as they were enjoying being that close to one another. It didn’t matter that Jack was probably on his way back or that friends with benefits was always a bad idea or that anything in between friends and lovers was a horrible idea. Right now all that mattered was that their lips were connected and that they both felt the same.
HOME, SWEET, HOME
• 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐖𝐍 𝐌𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐒 𝐱 𝐌𝐀𝐋𝐄!𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐑
SUMMARY — When your best friend is practically family, you sign up for the good, the bad, and the completely ridiculous. You're their rock, their reality check, their safe place—no matter what. But nothing tests that bond quite like getting a wedding invitation... with your ex-fling on the guest list. That's the situation when Ella, your lifelong best friend, drops a letter that changes everything.
WARNING! FLUFF. Suggestive Langauge.
WORDS! 8.2k
AUTHOR'S NOTE! Okay, I was watching You Again recently and got the idea for this. It was supposed to be a oneshot but now it's going to be a one shot series about complicated love—my speciality— also says you what you want Shawn but no one can deny how angelic handsome he is. Enjoy your reading✨🫶🏽
BEING A best friend comes with lot of responsibilities. You're supposed to be the constant in their life—the person they can rely on when things go south. You're the one who has their back no matter what, the voice of reason when they're being reckless, the shield when they need protection, and the soft landing when the world gets too rough. You love them unconditionally, even when they make decisions that make you want to scream, like inviting your ex-fling to their wedding.
That's the situation you found yourself in when you received a letter from your lifelong best friend, Ella. You and Ella had been inseparable since birth, thanks to your mothers, who had been best friends long before either of you existed. Ella's letter wasn't just any letter—it was an invitation to her wedding with Jake, her high school sweetheart and now fiancé.
You were thrilled for her. Of course you were going—how could you not? You and Ella had been planning her wedding since third grade, dreaming up elaborate ceremonies with glittering dresses, fairy-tale settings, and, of course, each other standing side by side on the big day. It wasn't just her wedding; it felt like a culmination of all the years of friendship, all the secrets and dreams you'd shared.
But everything shifted when you were on the phone with Ella, packing for the wedding weekend, and she casually mentioned that Shawn Mendes would be attending.
Shawn Mendes. The name alone was enough to stir up a whirlwind of emotions you thought you'd buried long ago. Shawn wasn't just anyone—he was your first love. Or rather, your first heartbreak. Back in high school, you and Shawn had been something between boyfriends and flings, caught in a fiery but fragile relationship that burned out almost as quickly as it ignited. Shawn wasn't ready to take your relationship public, and when the pressure became too much, he said things—hurtful, cutting things—that tore you apart.
The breakup wasn't just messy for the two of you; it splintered your entire friend group. Sides were taken, words were exchanged, and bridges were burned. The fallout was something you'd spent years trying to recover from. Shawn was a part of your past, and that's exactly where you'd left him—or so you thought.
It wasn't that you still had feelings for him. That heartbreak had been years ago, and time had dulled the edges of the pain. You'd moved on—or at least you'd told yourself you had. After all, you'd built an incredible life for yourself. You were a well-known singer and actor now, living a life most people could only dream of. But when it came to relationships, you hadn't let anyone else in since Shawn. The fear of being broken again, of giving someone your heart only to have it crushed, had kept you from even trying.
When Ella told you Shawn would be at the wedding, you didn't say anything. It wasn't your place. It was her day, not yours, and she had every right to invite whoever she wanted. Shawn's presence didn't change why you were going—you were there to celebrate your best friend and the love of her life. Nothing else mattered.
But as you zipped up your suitcase, you couldn't help the pang of anxiety settling in your chest. You'd spent years avoiding Shawn, carefully sidestepping any chance of running into him. Now, you were about to walk straight into a weekend where you couldn't avoid him.
This was Ella's wedding, though, and you weren't going to let your past get in the way of her happiness. You'd be there for her, just as you always had been. Even if it meant facing the one person who had once shattered your heart.
THE RUSTY ANCHOR—an unassuming dive bar tucked between the edge of town and the shore—had witnessed more of your teenage years than even your own bedroom. Its cracked vinyl booths still carried the faint, mingled scents of spilled whiskey and cheap wood polish. The air buzzed with the low hum of conversations and the raspy vocals of some classic rock anthem spinning endlessly on the aging jukebox. It was the kind of place that hadn't changed in decades, and for a brief moment, stepping inside felt like walking into a time capsule of your youth.
At the far end of the long, battered wooden table, you sat apart from the lively group, fingers idly tracing patterns around the rim of your untouched drink. The condensation from the glass left faint circles on the tabletop, joining countless others worn into the wood over the years. Your script, the one for the upcoming cameo role you'd agreed to, lay open on the table in front of you. The scene was supposed to be a simple one, but you weren't about to show up unprepared—not after the career you'd built.
The others, on the other hand, had fully surrendered to the nostalgia of the moment. Ella and Jake, the happy couple, sat pressed together in the middle of the group, their hands intertwined as they smiled at one another with that warm, unshakable kind of love that made you believe in fairy tales for just a second. Matt and Lexie had everyone laughing as they reenacted a cringeworthy high school moment, throwing in exaggerated voices and gestures to drive the point home. Sophie and Nate were huddled in the corner, fumbling hopelessly with a phone tripod as they tried to set it up for the perfect group selfie. The bar's dim lighting and aged decor weren't exactly Instagram-worthy, but they weren't about to let that stop them.
And then there was you—half there, half somewhere else, lost between the words on your script and the growing knot of unease in your stomach. It wasn't that you didn't want to be here; you did, for Ella's sake. But the anticipation of Shawn's arrival hung over you like a storm cloud, looming just out of sight but impossible to ignore.
Everyone was waiting for him. Ella had mentioned that Shawn was running late—traffic, she'd said—but you weren't sure if it was his timing or your own nerves making the minutes feel like hours. You hadn't seen him in years, and yet, here you were, waiting for him in the same bar where it had all started. You told yourself it was fine, that you were fine. You'd come here to celebrate Ella and Jake, not to dredge up the past.
But as you flipped the page of your script, scanning the dialogue that now seemed distant and unimportant, you felt the old ghosts of the Rusty Anchor stirring. You'd shared so many nights here with Shawn—late-night talks, stolen moments, the thrill of something secret and unspoken. And eventually, the heartbreak.
You took a deep breath, focusing back on the group. The others didn't seem to notice your distraction, which you were grateful for. You couldn't let them see the crack in your carefully maintained composure. Ella and Jake's laughter echoed across the table, a reminder of why you were really here. Whatever was about to happen when Shawn finally walked through that door, you'd face it—like you always did.
Matt, ever the observant one despite his antics, finally caught on to your silence. He leaned back in his chair, his beer in hand, and shot a pointed look in Ella's direction. With a subtle nudge of his elbow, he silently conveyed what you already knew was coming. Ella straightened up slightly, her expression shifting from carefree joy to quiet concern. She turned toward you, leaning closer so her voice wouldn't carry over the others' laughter.
"You good?" she asked, her tone soft, laced with the kind of concern that only years of friendship could convey.
You met her gaze briefly, then looked back down at the script in front of you. The pages blurred slightly, not from the dim light of the bar but from the weight of her question—and the unspoken one that hung between you. You knew what she was really asking.
"Fine," you replied, your voice even, betraying nothing. It wasn't a lie, not entirely. You weren't on the verge of breaking down or anything, but "fine" was easier than trying to unpack the knot of emotions twisting in your chest. Ella studied you for a moment longer, her lips pressing into a thin line as though deciding whether to push the matter.
The others were still caught up in their own worlds—Matt and Lexie's exaggerated reenactment had escalated into a full-blown performance, complete with dramatic gestures, and Sophie had just knocked over the phone tripod, prompting Nate's exasperated groan. The noise and chaos of the group gave you and Ella a small bubble of privacy, but you could tell she wasn't going to let this go entirely.
She tilted her head slightly, her voice barely above a whisper now. "You know you can talk to me, right? If...you need to?"
You swallowed hard and gave her a small, reassuring smile. "I know," you said, and you meant it. Ella had always been your anchor, the one person who'd seen you through every storm. But this wasn't her storm to weather—it was yours. And you weren't ready to open the floodgates just yet.
She hesitated for a moment longer, her eyes searching yours as if trying to read the words you weren't saying. Then, with a quiet sigh, she nodded and leaned back into her seat, giving you the space she knew you needed.
Still, the weight of her concern lingered, a reminder that she knew you better than you often gave her credit for. You turned back to your script, forcing yourself to focus on the dialogue. But as the minutes ticked by, the anticipation in your chest only grew heavier. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you were already preparing for the moment the door would open and Shawn would walk in.
Suddenly, The bell above the door jingled again, its cheerful chime cutting through the ambient noise of laughter and music. You didn't look up immediately, but you felt the subtle shift in the group before you heard the footsteps. They were slow, hesitant, as though the person walking in wasn't entirely sure they were welcome.
"Hey, guys."
That voice. Warm, richer now with age but still carrying the same undertone of quiet charm that had once been your undoing. Shawn Mendes.
You finally looked up, your stomach tightening instinctively. There he was, standing just a few feet away, his hands shoved deep into the pockets of a well-worn leather jacket that looked as though it had seen as many years as the bar itself. His dark hair was slightly tousled, as if he'd been running his hands through it nervously on the way over.
He looked good. You hated that you noticed.
Shawn's gaze swept over the group, his soft brown eyes flicking from face to face as he offered a small, tentative smile. Matt was the first to respond, raising his beer in greeting with a loud, "Shawn! Took you long enough, man!" That broke the ice, and the others chimed in with similar greetings, inviting him into the fold as though no time had passed.
But Shawn's eyes didn't linger on Matt or Lexie or Sophie. No, they found you—and stayed there, longer than you were prepared for. It wasn't a casual glance. His expression shifted slightly, a flicker of something you couldn't quite place—nostalgia, maybe, or regret. Whatever it was, it sent a jolt of unease through you.
You held his gaze for a moment, refusing to look away first, even though your pulse quickened. The years between you hadn't erased the memory of that look—the way it had once been filled with something softer, something deeper. But now, it was a reminder of everything that had gone wrong.
"Hey," he said again, quieter this time, almost as if it was meant just for you. Then, as if realizing he'd been staring, he quickly dropped his eyes and slid into the open seat across from you.
Ella, ever the hostess, leaned forward with a bright smile, immediately steering the conversation toward familiar, safe topics to ease the tension. The others followed her lead, peppering Shawn with questions about what he'd been up to, where he was living, whether he was still writing music.
You stayed silent, your fingers tightening slightly around the edge of your script. You didn't trust yourself to speak—not yet. Not when your mind was racing with a thousand emotions you weren't ready to unpack. So, you let the others fill the space, their chatter buzzing around you like white noise.
But Shawn's presence was impossible to ignore. Even as you kept your eyes on the words in front of you, you could feel his attention drifting back to you, tentative but persistent, like he was waiting for some kind of opening. You weren't sure if you wanted to give him one.
The night suddenly felt heavier, the weight of the past pressing down on you in a way you hadn't anticipated. It was going to be a long evening.
"Good to see everyone," Shawn said, his voice warm but laced with an edge of caution. "It's been... a while."
The group immediately erupted into small talk, eager to fill him in on everything he'd missed. Matt launched into a story about his new job, Lexie joked about her disastrous attempts at online dating, and Sophie managed to pull Shawn into a quick selfie for her ever-growing collection. The chatter was lively, easy, as though everyone had effortlessly fallen back into their old rhythm.
Everyone except you.
You kept quiet, your hands clenched tightly under the table where no one could see. Shawn's gaze drifted to you more than once—you could feel it—but you kept your eyes fixed on the script in front of you, pretending to study the pages with far more intensity than they warranted.
And Shawn noticed. You could feel the weight of his attention growing heavier, like he was waiting for the right moment.
That moment came during a lull, the conversation dipping into a rare silence as everyone caught their breath. Shawn cleared his throat, and the sound sent a ripple through the table.
"Hey..." His voice was low, hesitant, but it cut through the quiet. His eyes were on you, the rest of the group suddenly forgotten. "Can we talk?"
The question hung in the air, and the table collectively stilled. Your friends, so loud and animated just moments ago, now found their drinks, the table, and the far corners of the bar incredibly fascinating.
You didn't look up. Your fingers tightened around the edge of the table, and you forced yourself to sound indifferent. "Nothing to talk about," you said with a shrug, your tone flat, dismissive.
Shawn flinched, just barely, but it was enough for you to notice. The others exchanged quick, awkward glances, as if debating whether to intervene or pretend they hadn't heard anything. Ella shifted uncomfortably in her seat, but she didn't say a word.
Shawn leaned forward slightly, his hands resting on the table as he tried again. "I think there is," he said, quieter this time. There was a rawness in his voice now, a vulnerability that caught you off guard.
You finally looked up, your eyes meeting his for the first time that night. The tension between you was almost palpable, the weight of unresolved history pressing down on both of you. For a moment, no one at the table breathed, waiting to see what you would do.
But instead of answering, you pushed your chair back, the legs scraping against the worn floorboards. "I'm going to get some air," you muttered, standing up before anyone could stop you.
As you walked away, you could feel Shawn's eyes on your back, but you didn't turn around. The familiar scent of the bar faded as you stepped outside into the cool night air, the door closing behind you with a hollow thud.
For a few seconds, you just stood there, breathing deeply, trying to push down the mix of anger, sadness, and something dangerously close to longing that his presence had stirred up. You weren't ready for this—not here, not now.
The cool night air was a relief against your skin, though it did little to calm the storm inside you. You leaned against the wall of the bar, staring out at the empty parking lot, your arms crossed tightly across your chest. The muffled sounds of laughter and music filtered through the door behind you, a reminder that the rest of the world was still spinning, even if yours felt like it had tilted on its axis.
The door creaked open, and for a moment, you tensed, expecting him. But instead, you heard the familiar shuffle of boots and the soft clearing of a throat.
"Mind if I join you?" Ella's voice was gentle, cautious, as though she were approaching a wounded animal. You didn't answer, but you didn't stop her either, and that was all the permission she needed. She stepped out fully, the door shutting softly behind her, and slid down to sit beside you on the curb.
For a while, neither of you spoke. She didn't push, didn't bombard you with questions or platitudes. She just sat there, her presence steady and grounding, letting the silence work its way through you both.
Finally, she broke it. "You want to tell me what's going on?" Her tone was careful but insistent, the way only Ella could manage—enough to remind you she wasn't going anywhere, but not so much that you felt forced to answer.
You exhaled sharply, your breath visible in the chilly air. "It's nothing," you said, though the tightness in your voice betrayed you.
Ella let out a soft laugh, dry but not unkind. "You really think I'm buying that?"
You glanced at her, her face partially lit by the warm glow of the bar's neon sign. She was watching you with that look—the one that had been the undoing of every lie you'd ever tried to tell her. Her expression was equal parts patient and stubborn, and you knew there was no sidestepping this conversation.
You ran a hand through your hair, letting out a frustrated sigh. "I don't know, El. It's... Shawn." His name felt heavy on your tongue, and saying it aloud made everything feel more real.
Ella nodded, her expression softening. "I figured," she said simply. "I saw the way you went quiet as soon as he walked in."
You turned away, staring at the cracked pavement beneath your feet. "I wasn't ready for this," you admitted quietly. "Seeing him again. Hearing his voice. It's like..." You trailed off, searching for the words, but they didn't come.
"Like it ripped open something you thought was healed?" she finished for you.
You looked at her, surprised by how perfectly she'd nailed it. She smiled faintly, shrugging. "I've been there, you know. Different person, different situation, but I get it."
A bitter laugh escaped you. "I thought I was over it. Over him. It's been years, El. I've moved on... or at least I thought I had."
"Moving on doesn't mean forgetting," she said gently. "Or that it stops mattering. You loved him, even if it was messy and complicated. And he hurt you. Of course it's going to feel like this."
You leaned back, resting your head against the cold brick wall. "I just... I don't know what he wants. Why he's here."
Ella tilted her head, studying you. "Maybe he just wants to talk. To make things right."
You scoffed. "It's a little late for that."
"Maybe," she agreed. "But maybe it's not. Either way, you don't have to figure it all out tonight. Just... give yourself some grace, okay? You don't have to have all the answers right now."
For the first time since stepping outside, you let yourself relax, even if only slightly. Ella reached over, giving your hand a quick squeeze. "Whatever happens, I've got your back. You know that, right?"
"Yeah," you said softly. "I know."
You exhaled slowly, letting the weight of the moment settle before you turned to Ella. Her concern was genuine, her presence comforting, but it wasn't what you wanted to focus on right now. You gave her a small, grateful smile before speaking.
"Ella," you began softly, "this weekend isn't about me. Or Shawn. It's about you and Jake. Your wedding, your union, everything you've worked for together. I don't want to be the one dragging old feelings and unresolved drama into that."
She frowned, tilting her head. "You're not dragging anything in. I can see how much this is affecting you, and I just want to make sure—"
"I'm fine," you interrupted gently, holding her gaze. "Really, I am. I came here for you, for Jake, to celebrate what you two have. That's all that matters to me. Whatever's going on with Shawn... it's in the past. I'm not going to let it overshadow your moment."
Ella sighed, her brow furrowed with worry, but there was also a flicker of relief in her expression. "You sure? Because you don't have to bottle everything up just for my sake, you know. If you need to step away, if you need to take time for yourself—"
"Ella," you said, cutting her off with a soft laugh. "I love you, but this isn't the time for that. You and Jake have waited so long for this weekend, and I'm not about to be the one who makes it about something else. I'm here to support you, to stand by your side. That's all I want."
Her lips pressed together, her eyes searching yours for any cracks in your resolve. "You always do that," she said after a moment.
"Do what?"
"Put yourself last. Sacrifice what you're feeling for everyone else." She reached over, resting a hand on your arm. "I know you're here for me, and I love you for it. But don't think for a second that I'm going to let you drown in this just to keep a smile on my face. I know you, and I know when something's eating at you."
You sighed, leaning back against the wall again. "It's not that simple, Ella. What am I supposed to do? Have some emotional heart-to-heart with Shawn in the middle of your wedding festivities? That's not going to happen."
"I'm not saying you have to," she said, her voice calm but firm. "But don't ignore how you feel either. This isn't about giving him anything—it's about giving yourself some closure, even if it's just for your own peace of mind."
You didn't respond right away, staring out at the dark parking lot. After a moment, you gave her a half-smile. "I'll think about it. But only after you and Jake are officially hitched and I'm three drinks into the reception."
Ella laughed, the sound light and familiar, breaking the tension in the air. "Fair enough," she said. Then her expression softened, and she leaned her head against your shoulder. "You've always been there for me. I just want to make sure I'm there for you too."
"You are," you said, your voice steady. "You always are."
After a few more moments of quiet outside, you stood up, brushing off your jeans and offering Ella a hand. She took it, squeezing it gently before the two of you headed back inside. The warmth and noise of The Rusty Anchor hit you as soon as you opened the door—laughter, the low hum of the jukebox, and the familiar din of your friend group already several drinks deep.
You slid back into your seat at the table, Ella following close behind. The others didn't seem to notice your brief absence, caught up in their conversation. Shawn's eyes flicked toward you briefly, but you didn't return the glance. Instead, you focused on Ella, who leaned forward to get everyone's attention.
"Alright, guys," she began, her voice raised slightly to cut through the noise. Jake grinned beside her, clearly in on whatever announcement she was about to make. "So, Jake and I were talking, and we figured it's been forever since all of us got to spend some real time together. And with the wedding coming up, we thought... why not?"
The group fell silent, everyone looking at her with a mix of curiosity and excitement.
"So," Jake added, taking over, "we booked a cabin for the week leading up to the wedding. It's big enough for all of us, and we thought it'd be a great way to reconnect—hang out, relive old times, and, you know, just relax before the big day."
The announcement was met with a chorus of reactions—cheers, laughter, and a few surprised exclamations. Lexie clapped her hands together. "Are you serious? A whole week together? That's amazing!"
"Wait," Matt said, his brow furrowed. "This isn't one of those creepy cabins in the middle of nowhere where we get picked off by a horror movie villain, right?"
"Absolutely not," Ella said with a grin. "It's a gorgeous place by the lake. Full amenities, big kitchen, tons of space. It's perfect."
Sophie let out an excited squeal. "Oh my God, I can't wait! This is going to be so much fun!"
Nate, ever the practical one, raised an eyebrow. "What about work? I mean, some of us have—"
Jake waved him off. "We planned this ages ago and checked with everyone's schedules. Plus, it's not mandatory. But we'd love it if you came."
The group's energy was electric now, everyone talking over each other with plans and excitement. You stayed quiet, processing the news. A whole week together. With Ella and Jake, with the others. With Shawn.
Ella caught your eye, giving you a look that said it'll be fine. She knew what you were thinking, and she wasn't going to let you back out.
"So," Ella said, her smile widening as she looked around the table, "what do you guys think? Are you in?"
The unanimous response was a resounding yes. Even you, despite your hesitation, nodded along. This was Ella's time, and you'd promised yourself you'd be here for her. Whatever came next, you'd deal with it. Together.
THE DRIVE up to the secluded cabin had been both long and strangely nostalgic, each twist and turn of the road pulling you further from the noise of everyday life and deeper into a landscape that felt like a postcard. The forest, dense with towering pines, seemed to close in around the winding road, while the sunlight filtering through the trees created dappled patterns on the asphalt. Every so often, the view would break open to reveal a pristine mountain lake, its surface shimmering like glass under the soft afternoon sun.
The convoy of three cars navigated the final stretch together, gravel crunching under tires as you pulled into the wide driveway one by one. The sight that greeted you was enough to make the long drive worth it. The cabin stood tall and inviting, its rustic log exterior blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings. A wide wrap-around porch wrapped around the structure, adorned with cozy rocking chairs and lanterns that were already glowing softly against the early evening sky.
Beyond the cabin, the lake stretched out in serene stillness, its surface kissed by a thin layer of mist that drifted lazily across the water. The evergreens lining the shore swayed gently in the cool breeze, their reflection rippling faintly in the water. It was quiet, except for the occasional call of a bird or the faint rustle of leaves in the wind—a kind of peace you hadn't realized you needed until you arrived.
Everyone began climbing out of their cars, stretching and letting out exaggerated groans after the long drive. Bags were retrieved from trunks, and the air quickly filled with the sounds of chatter and laughter as the group took in their surroundings.
"This place is incredible," Sophie said, spinning in a slow circle to take it all in. "I feel like we're in a movie or something."
"Right?" Lexie agreed, already snapping pictures with her phone. "We're totally living our best lives this week."
Matt, ever practical, eyed the cabin with a playful grin. "Are we sure this isn't one of those places where we all get picked off one by one? Because I'm pretty sure I saw this exact setup in a horror movie once."
Ella rolled her eyes, laughing as she looped her arm through Jake's. "Relax, Matt. The scariest thing here is probably going to be Lexie's attempts at making s'mores."
"Hey!" Lexie shot back, grinning. "My s'mores are legendary."
You smiled faintly at the banter, your eyes scanning the cabin and its surroundings. It was beautiful, no doubt about it, and it did feel like the perfect place to reconnect. But there was an underlying tension you couldn't quite shake—one that had nothing to do with the cabin or the lake.
Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Shawn unloading his bag from the backseat of his car. He seemed to hesitate for a moment, glancing toward the group as if gauging whether to join in the chatter. When his eyes briefly met yours, he gave a small, tentative smile. You didn't return it, turning your attention back to the others instead.
"Alright, everyone," Jake called out, clapping his hands together. "Let's get settled in. Ella and I claimed the master bedroom—obviously—but the rest of you can fight over the other rooms."
"First come, first serve!" Matt shouted, grabbing his bag and bolting toward the cabin, Lexie hot on his heels.
The others followed, laughing and calling out dibs as they disappeared through the front door. You hung back for a moment, taking one last look at the lake and breathing in the crisp, pine-scented air.
"It's going to be a good week," Ella said quietly, stepping up beside you. Her voice was calm, reassuring, as if she could sense the hesitation still lingering in you.
You nodded, giving her a small smile. "Yeah," you said softly, "it will be."
Together, you headed toward the cabin, ready to see what the week—and whatever it brought—had in store.
The cabin's interior was even more breathtaking than its exterior. Wide wooden beams stretched across the vaulted ceiling, giving the living room an open, airy feel. A massive stone fireplace dominated one wall, its hearth flanked by built-in bookshelves filled with worn novels and board games. Oversized couches, draped with soft plaid blankets, were arranged in a semi-circle near the fireplace, clearly designed for late-night conversations and fireside gatherings.
The floor-to-ceiling windows were the real showstopper, offering an unobstructed view of the lake. The fading sunlight painted the water in hues of gold and orange, and the mist that lingered earlier had lifted just enough to reveal the treetops on the opposite shore. It was the kind of view that made you want to sit and watch it for hours.
"Okay!" Ella's voice broke through the awed silence. She clapped her hands together, a wide grin on her face. "Claim your rooms now before Lexie steals the best one."
"I resent that!" Lexie called out, already halfway up the staircase with her bag in hand.
The group burst into laughter as everyone scattered, suitcases thudding up and down the stairs and along the wooden floors. There was no real system—just a lot of playful shouts of "Dibs!" and exaggerated protests as people jostled for the best spots.
You stayed back, letting the chaos unfold without you. It wasn't that you didn't care where you stayed—you just didn't have the energy to argue about it. After a few minutes, the noise upstairs settled down as everyone staked their claims. Finally, you grabbed your bag and headed up the stairs, finding a room at the very end of the hall.
It was smaller than some of the others but no less charming. A sturdy wooden bed with a thick quilt sat against one wall, and a large window overlooked the forest. The room was quiet and private, the kind of space that let you breathe a little easier. You dropped your bag at the foot of the bed and walked over to the window, peering out at the dense line of trees. The fading light filtered through the branches, casting long shadows on the ground.
It wasn't the lake view, but you didn't mind. The forest felt secluded, calm—a contrast to the energy buzzing through the rest of the cabin. You let out a slow breath, feeling some of the tension from the day ease away.
Downstairs, the sound of laughter and footsteps echoed faintly. You could hear Sophie's voice carrying over the others, probably trying to organize some kind of group activity, and Matt cracking one of his signature terrible jokes. For a moment, you considered staying in your room and avoiding the inevitable awkwardness of being in the same space as Shawn for the rest of the evening.
But then you heard Ella call your name from the living room, her voice light and full of excitement. You sighed, shaking your head with a small smile. This week was for her, for Jake, for all of you to reconnect as friends.
With one last glance at the forest, you turned and headed downstairs, bracing yourself for whatever the night had in store.
BY NIGHTFALL, the group had migrated outside, where a roaring fire crackled in the stone fire pit just beyond the cabin's porch. The flames cast flickering shadows on the surrounding trees, their golden light reaching up to the star-filled sky. Embers popped and danced as they floated upward, disappearing into the crisp night air. The faint scent of pine mingled with the smokiness of the fire, grounding you in the peaceful stillness of the forest.
Blankets were draped over shoulders as the group settled in around the fire, the cozy scene punctuated by bursts of laughter and the clinking of bottles from the cooler someone had dragged out. Sophie and Nate were huddled near the edge of the fire pit, attempting to make s'mores. Sophie let out a loud laugh as she accidentally set her marshmallow ablaze, the charred black blob dangling precariously from her skewer.
"Why does this always happen to me?" she groaned, trying to blow it out without much success.
"Because you refuse to rotate it slowly," Nate said, grinning as he expertly toasted his own marshmallow to a perfect golden brown. "Patience is a virtue."
"Patience is boring," Sophie shot back, finally extinguishing the flames. She plopped the ruined marshmallow onto a graham cracker anyway, earning another laugh from Nate.
On the opposite side of the fire, Matt was midway through recounting an elaborate story about a disastrous hiking trip from years ago. His voice grew louder with each detail, his hands flying in exaggerated gestures as he described the "near-death" experience.
"I'm telling you, the bear was this close," he said, stretching his arms wide for emphasis.
"It was a raccoon, Matt," Lexie interjected dryly, her face lit with mock intensity as she leaned forward. "And you were hiding behind a tree screaming while the rest of us dealt with it."
The group erupted into laughter, even Matt, who dramatically rolled his eyes. "Details, Lexie. Nobody cares about the details."
You sat quietly on one of the large wooden logs circling the fire, a half-finished beer in your hand. The warmth of the flames pressed against your skin, contrasting with the cool night air. You tilted your head back to look at the stars, which seemed impossibly bright out here, far from the city lights. For a moment, you let yourself relax, tuning out the chatter and letting the fire's crackle fill your mind.
But you couldn't entirely ignore the presence of Shawn, sitting across the fire from you. He wasn't saying much, mostly listening and occasionally laughing along with the others. Every now and then, his gaze would flicker to you, lingering for just a moment too long before he looked away. You tried not to notice, tried not to let it bother you. But it did.
Ella, sitting beside you, leaned over and bumped your shoulder lightly. "You okay?" she asked softly, her voice low enough that the others couldn't hear.
You nodded, giving her a small smile. "Yeah," you said, and for now, it wasn't entirely a lie.
As the night deepened, the fire burned lower, the flames licking lazily at the logs. The hum of conversation and laughter had softened, but the energy of the group still buzzed in the cool air. You were focused on the glow of the embers, letting the warmth lull you into a momentary calm, when you felt it: the unmistakable weight of someone sitting down beside you.
Shawn.
He didn't speak right away, just stretched his legs out toward the fire and rested his hands on his knees, the movement casual yet deliberate. The orange firelight danced across his face, accentuating the sharp curve of his jaw and the faint stubble that shadowed his chin. He looked different, older, but in a way that made him even more disarming.
"Mind if I sit?" he finally asked, his voice low, though he was already seated.
You shrugged, your voice cool. "It's a free country."
A quiet moment stretched between you, filled only by the crackling of the fire and the sounds of your friends laughing and talking a few feet away. You kept your eyes on the flames, refusing to give him the satisfaction of looking at him.
"You've been...quiet," he said, his tone soft but probing, his gaze still fixed on the fire.
"Just taking it all in," you replied, keeping your voice even. You weren't sure if it was entirely true, but it was easier than admitting the truth—that his presence was making it harder to think straight.
He nodded, rubbing his hands together against the chill. "It's weird being back together like this. Good, but... weird."
You hummed in vague agreement, still not looking at him. The air between you felt heavy, dense with unspoken words.
Shawn shifted slightly closer, lowering his voice so only you could hear. "I didn't think you'd come."
That made you turn to him, your expression guarded, a faint edge to your voice. "Really? To my best friend’s wedding? The wedding that’s we’ve planning since third grade?”
His gaze faltered, his confidence cracking just slightly under your words. "I know. I just..." He hesitated, his voice softer now. "I'm glad you did."
Before you could muster a response, Matt's booming voice shattered the tension: "Alright, truth or dare time! We're doing this old-school, no backing out."
A groan rippled through the group, Sophie rolling her eyes dramatically. But the rest of your friends cheered, shifting eagerly into a circle around the fire, blankets and drinks in hand.
Matt pointed at you first, his grin mischievous. "You're up. Truth or dare?"
All eyes turned to you, the firelight catching their amused, expectant faces. But it was Shawn's gaze that lingered the heaviest, his expression unreadable but his attention unmistakable.
You swallowed, feeling the weight of the moment pressing down on you. "...Truth," you finally said, your voice steady despite the knot in your chest.
Matt's grin widened, his excitement palpable. "What's something you regret not saying to someone from our past?"
The group erupted into playful groans and teasing "Oooohs," their laughter filling the space. But you didn't hear them clearly; all you could focus on was Shawn. His gaze locked onto yours across the fire, not with judgment, but with something closer to curiosity—or maybe hope.
The fire crackled, the moment stretching endlessly.
You kept your expression cool, your voice even as you finally answered. "I don't believe in regrets."
The group collectively booed your non-answer, Matt groaning in mock frustration. "Lame! That's such a cop-out."
But he let it slide, moving on to his next target with exaggerated flair, and the energy of the circle quickly shifted back to laughter and playful dares.
Shawn, though, didn't move. He stayed beside you, his lips quirking into the faintest, almost imperceptible smile. It wasn't smug or knowing, but there was something in it that made your stomach flip—a quiet acknowledgment, a shared understanding that the conversation between you was far from over.
THE NIGHT went on, but the fire between you and Shawn wasn't the only one that refused to burn out. The past, it seemed, had found its way back to the present.
The wooden deck groaned softly as Shawn shifted his weight, leaning further against the porch railing. The crisp night air was a stark contrast to the warmth and noise inside, and for a moment, he allowed himself to focus on the stars overhead. They stretched endlessly across the black sky, impossibly clear and bright, a view he hadn't appreciated in far too long. In the distance, the faint shimmer of the lake was barely visible, a mirror reflecting the night.
The sliding glass door behind him clicked softly, followed by the sound of familiar footsteps. Shawn didn't turn around, but when Matt stepped up to the railing beside him, a small smile tugged at his lips.
"Needed some air," Matt said, raising his whiskey tumbler as if to toast the night. The amber liquid caught the warm glow of the porch lantern. "It's loud in there."
Shawn nodded, taking a sip from his beer. "Yeah... They're already three drinks ahead of us."
Matt chuckled, leaning against the railing. "Sophie's halfway to starting a karaoke competition. We've got about ten minutes before it gets really embarrassing."
They shared a quiet laugh, the kind that comes easily between old friends. The muffled sounds of music and laughter spilled faintly from the cabin's windows, a backdrop to the peaceful stillness of the night outside.
Matt tilted his head back, his gaze tracing the constellations overhead. "You forget how clear the stars are out here," he murmured. "Living in the city, it's just buildings and streetlights. This feels... different."
Shawn exhaled slowly, his eyes drifting toward the lake, its dark silhouette barely visible against the horizon. "Yeah," he said, his voice quieter now. "I missed this."
A pause stretched between them, comfortable but weighted, the kind of silence where unspoken thoughts hovered just out of reach. Finally, Matt broke it, his tone softer this time. "So... How's life been? I mean, really."
Shawn hesitated, the question hanging in the air. He shrugged, setting his beer down on the railing with a dull clink. "Busy. Music, touring... all of it kind of blurs together after a while." He paused, his expression shifting, the faintest shadow crossing his face. "It's good, though. I'm lucky."
Matt turned his head slightly, studying him. "You don't sound like you believe that."
A dry laugh escaped Shawn, low and almost self-deprecating. "It's not that," he said, running a hand through his hair. "I just—sometimes it feels like... I'm always moving, you know? Like if I stop for too long, everything catches up."
Matt nodded, swirling the whiskey in his glass, the soft clink of ice punctuating the moment. "I get that," he said quietly. "Life comes at you fast, and you think if you stay busy enough, you can outrun the stuff that hurts."
Shawn glanced at him, something vulnerable flickering in his expression, and then he looked back out at the dark expanse of trees. "Yeah," he said simply. "Exactly."
For a while, neither of them spoke, letting the stillness of the night wrap around them. The soft hum of music and laughter from inside the cabin continued, a reminder of the world they'd stepped away from. But out here, under the stars, with the cool air biting gently at their skin, it was easy to feel like time had slowed, just for a moment.
Matt broke the silence again, his voice thoughtful. "You think maybe... it's time to stop running?"
Shawn didn't answer right away. Instead, he picked up his beer and took another sip, his gaze still fixed on the horizon. "I don't know," he admitted finally. "Maybe. I just... don't know how."
Matt let that hang in the air, neither agreeing nor pressing further. He simply nodded, tipping his glass toward the stars before taking a long sip of whiskey.
Inside, the music swelled, and a loud cheer erupted, likely signaling the start of Sophie's infamous karaoke showdown.
Matt broke the silence first, his voice low but deliberate. "Have you talked to him yet?"
Shawn tensed, the question cutting through the quiet night. He didn't turn his head, his gaze locked on the dark expanse of the lake. "Not really," he admitted after a pause. "He's been..." He hesitated, searching for the right word. "...distant."
Matt let out a soft, humorless laugh. "Can you blame him?"
Shawn flinched at the words but didn't argue. The truth in them was undeniable, and it settled in his chest like a weight.
Matt leaned back against the railing, his tone shifting to something softer. "You really hurt him, man."
"I know," Shawn said, his voice barely above a whisper. There was a rawness to it, a crack in his carefully composed exterior. "I didn't mean to. I just... I was scared. Scared of what people would think, of what it would change. Of what it would make me."
Matt turned to look at him, his expression both sharp and understanding. "It changed everything anyway."
The words hit hard, and Shawn nodded slowly, his shoulders sagging under a weight he had been carrying for far too long. "I thought I was protecting him... protecting us. But I wasn't. I was just protecting myself."
Matt sighed, folding his arms across his chest. "You know he loved you, right? More than he ever admitted... even when it all fell apart."
Shawn's grip tightened around the neck of his beer bottle, his gaze dropping to the worn wooden planks beneath his boots. "Do you think it's too late?"
Matt studied him, his expression unreadable as he considered the question. Finally, he spoke, his voice steady. "I think... you only get so many chances in life. But if you're waiting for the perfect moment to fix this, it's never gonna come. You've gotta decide if he's worth the risk."
Shawn nodded faintly, his jaw tightening as he swallowed hard. "I don't know if he even wants to hear me out," he murmured, more to himself than to Matt.
Matt's lips quirked into a faint smirk. "You won't know unless you try. But if you're going to do it, you can't half-ass it this time. No secrets. No excuses. He deserves better than that."
Shawn's gaze lifted, following the faint ripples of the lake under the starlight. The reflection of the stars on the water seemed endless, like a horizon he couldn't quite reach. His fingers flexed around the beer bottle as the memories—both good and bad—flooded his mind.
After a long pause, his voice broke the stillness. It was quiet, but resolute. "I'm not scared anymore."
Matt clapped him on the shoulder, a firm but encouraging gesture. "Good," he said, his voice lighter but still sincere. "Just... be ready to fight for it. He's not gonna make it easy."
The faint strains of Sophie's slightly off-key karaoke performance drifted through the air, prompting a small laugh from both of them.
"Looks like Sophie's in full diva mode," Matt said with a grin. "We should head back before she forces us to do a duet."
Shawn smiled faintly, but his feet remained rooted to the spot. "You go ahead. I'll be in soon."
Matt nodded, understanding that Shawn needed a moment. He stepped back inside, the sliding glass door clicking softly behind him.
Shawn stayed where he was, staring out at the lake, his thoughts swirling like the rippling water. He let the cool night air wash over him, steadying his breath, his mind turning over what he'd just said.
I'm not scared anymore.
It felt like a declaration, one he hadn't realized he was ready to make until now. Maybe, just maybe, it wasn't too late after all.
you'd woken up feeling absolutely terrible. you were sick to your stomach, throwing up every now and then.
matt sat on the bathroom floor beside you, rubbing your back in attempt to sooth you.
"this is so weird. you were just fine yesterday." he mumbled to himself.
"i fuckin' know."
you had no idea what came over you today. no one at work was sick, you hadn't eaten anything bad. you were confused as to why this was happening.
matthew knew you hadn't been in contact with anyone who was ill and you hadn't even left the house in a day or two, so he was confused himself.
he felt terrible that all this was happening to you. "do you think it might just be your period?"
his voice took you out of your thoughts. no, it wasn't your period. in fact, you were late. four days late to your period.
"uh, no. i'm pretty sure i'm late." you spoke quietly, scared of the response to what you had just admitted.
matt took a second to process the words that had left your mouth. he began racking his brain with the possibilities.
"do you think you're.. pregnant?" he could barely bring himself to say the word. he wasn't ready to be a father whatsoever.
the words hit you hard. pregnant?
"i dunno.." you managed to let out.
matt's breath audibly caught in his throat. "i- do you wanna get a test?"
you avoided the question for a moment, not knowing if you were even ready to find out.
"yeah, okay." a sigh followed your sentence.
the two of you stood up, walking out to the car in silence. he didn't bother opening your door like he usually does or ask what song you felt like playing.
he was insanely stressed. you'd only been dating 8 months but you were incredibly connected.
you'd moved in together a while back, you'd both met each others parents and to say you loved each other was an understatement.
but becoming parents? that's a completely different story.
he pulled the car into the cvs parking lot. "i'll be right back." he muttered to which you nodded.
when he exited the vehicle, you were left alone with your thoughts.
you knew you probably weren't ready for this big of a thing. having a kid together was huge and you were barely even an adult.
but deep down you knew if that test came out positive, you'd make yourself ready for the situation. and you had no doubt that you and matt could handle this within time.
right?
matthew came back with two boxes in his hand. "i got two just in case."
he gave you a tight-lipped smile to try and give you some sense of comfort. he was aware you were probably as nervous as he was.
you reciprocated that smile and drove the rest of the way home in silence.
the second you walked into your apartment you let out a deep exhale. you knew this was gonna be a heavy moment.
"uhm, okay. i'll- uh. i'll wait on the couch." matt said, finally managing to make eye contact with you for the first time in fifteen minutes, giving you some hope.
while you were in the bathroom, matt mentally lost it. he had no absolute idea how he was going to handle this if it came back positive.
he began biting his already less than short nails even farther down to the nub. he bit back his lip to keep tears from streaming down his face.
after a couple of moments, he turned his head at the sound of the bathroom door opening.
you stood in the doorway with a nervous look written all over you.
"matt, i'm pregnant." you spoke just above a whisper.
his eyes widened at the new found information.
"seriously?" he allowed himself to choke out.
you gave him a nod, a smile just barely noticeable on your face as you thought about how great this could turn out to be for the two of you.
"y/n, i'm not ready to be a dad. i'm barely 21, i can't be a fucking father." matt stood up, running a hand through his disheveled, brown hair.
your face immediately faltered. "what?"
"i'm not capable of taking care of children right now. i still have my whole life to live." he raised his voice ever so slightly, but enough to cause a few tears to leave your eyes.
"you don't have a choice. you act like this isn't partially on you too!" the words left your lips as you became more and more upset by his reaction.
this is nowhere near how you imagined this would go.
this is not the matt you knew. the matt you knew would tell you it's okay and would support you through the situation.
"it was a mistake! i can't do this!" you weren't the only one crying now as the conversation got more intense.
"that's too damn bad! you have a kid now, matthew! man up!"
matt simply shook his head, looking like he was ready to break down completely.
"i don't know what to fucking tell you, y/n." his voice came out shaky.
"tell me we're in this together! that you and i can get through this! we're a team, remember? what happened to that?!"
"what happened was you got pregnant!" he shouted, regretting what he had said instantly.
"you're telling me that all of a sudden everything between you and i has changed i'm pregnant? mind you, the person responsible for this was you!"
matt remained silent, not even knowing how to respond.
you tried your best not to lose it in front of him before he spoke up again, this time quieter.
"fucking say something, matthew!" you yelled, the words getting croaked up in your throat due to the amount of sobbing taking place.
"i'm sorry, i can't do this."
and with that, he left the apartment, leaving you alone, sobbing in your living room.
Tell Me When You're Ready - Matty Healy x f!reader
Based on 'When You're Ready' by Shawn Mendes
A/N: HELLO, THIS IS PURE PAIN IM SORRY! It's my first angsty fic so please tell me what you think :)) I'd say happy reading but...
Warning: ANGST, unrequited feelings, crying, fainting, slight mention of death. maybe typos, i checked but who know
Word count: 3.2 K
Blog Masterlist
Mhm, mhm
Maybe I had too many drinks
But that's just what I needed
I hope that you don't think that what I'm saying sounds conceited
When I look across the room, and you're staring right back at me
Like somebody told a joke and we're the only ones laughin'
The corner of the room was the only place secured enough to be at the moment. She couldn’t tear her eyes away, or her mind couldn’t stop thinking about them, about him. Her head clouded by his presence like never before. Missed him didn’t even scratch the surface of what she felt during those months. Hell, during those years he had been touring the world. Without her.
A big gulp of the drink she nursed for the last few minutes, one of the countless glasses she held during the night. The self-pity bubbling on the back of her stomach. ‘He doesn’t care about you, he’s busy…with her’, she thought.
Loving without reciprocation. What a cliché she was. If he knew, he would probably laugh about it.
The glass empty, presented in front of her body, took the attention of her mind. A short break from a panoramic view of the party around the couple. It was like a film when the camera focus only on the protagonists and the rest of the room disappears. ‘Cliché again’, she mumbled. The awareness of being drunk didn’t stop her wants to keep going, to keep drinking until she blacked out. Cliché? Maybe a little emo from her.
She forced her eyes up again. Something inside her wanted to watch the pair, to feel the pang on her heart knowing the girl standing beside him deserved his love. Well, a lie. She wasn’t his lover, but he loved her. She was part of his closest circle, although he had never thought about kissing her. Her want felt like a sin. Like a betrayal to their friendship.
In a sudden movement, his eyes fell on her standing across the room, long meters away. She swore under her breath, watching his smile growing wider when the information reached his brain. He whispered on the woman’s ear. What does one feel when he does that? A tingling? A shivering around your limbs? She would kill to know. Yes, he had kissed her cheek. She stood a bit taller thinking about it, even when her feet were threatening to fail her. She knew the feeling of his lips on her cheeks, the texture of his hands holding her face closer to then left a sweet kiss on her forehead. But No, it wasn’t enough, she wanted the rest. All of it. All of him.
When Matty was in the middle of his path towards the other side of the room, she focused on the floor. The design on the marvel spiralling. She titled her head, looking at it. Her eyes refused to focus. She got so distracted by it, to the point of forgetting him walking closer to find her.
“Hey, there you’re!” he was happy. Not drunk happy, just happy. Her heart fluttered, hearing his pitched voice closer.
“Hi.” she straightened her head up and back, meeting his eyes.
“How long have you been hiding here?”
“Not- Not hiding.” she hiccuped, Matty laughed. The sweet sound surrounding her like a warm hug during a cold night.
Matty grabbed her by her arms, “Wow.” she didn’t recall moving. “I’d say hours and a good amount of alcohol.” he chuckled, although she couldn’t laugh.
She felt the urge to leave, be far from him like never before.
“Sweetheart?” he asked, concerned.
‘Sweetheart’. She wanted to slap him. He had his ‘sweetheart’ at the other side of the room, being perfect. If the woman was drunk, no one really noticed, no one could tell. On the other hand, she was a mess. Even with her mind gone, she could acknowledge it.
“Huh.”
“Are you alright?”
“Perfect.” Fat lie.
“You don’t look…perfect.” she knew what he was trying to say, but her mind when to dark places first.
She detached her arms from his calloused hands. “I’m alright, Matty.” the words harsher than intended. “How are you? Congratulations.”
Matty hesitated to answer, “I’m okay.” the answer unsure, his eyes following every one of her movements.
She felt her tongue moving, trying desperately, muttering words without sounds when the room started to move abruptly. Her body leaned forward closer to Matty’s. It was as if in any giving moment, her soul wanted to follow his.
She heard Matty called her name before everything went black.
Don't know why I tried
'Cause ain't nobody like you
Familiar disappointment every single time I do
Every single night my arms are not around you
My mind's still wrapped around you
The front of Matty’s door slammed, making him jump on his spot on the living’s room couch, thinking it was Denise ready to kick his ass for smoking inside or just smoking. His heart calmed down when his friend’s form appeared in front of his eyes.
“Shit, dude! For a second, I th-” but his words died in his throat. Her face pale, wet and clearly upset, threw a dagger directly to his chest. “What’s wrong?”
Her eyes everywhere except looking at his. She tried to dry the tears streaming down, but they kept coming down like a waterfall. Her name on his lips, pleading for her to let him in.
“He doesn’t love me.” Matty’s friend didn’t have to say the name, he knew. Oh man, he hated the twat more than doing what his mother told him. She deserved so much better.
“Sweetheart.” the half smoked cig left on the ashtray, walking as fast as possible closer to her shrunken body. “Come here.” his closed accent comforting her more than she ever imagined. She let her hands grab his clothes hiding Matty’s back, hanging from there as if her life depended on that. He was there, pushed against her front. They fit, they were perfect…at least for her.
Matty held his friend. One hand on the back of her head, scratching her soft hair; and his other, palming softly, rhythmically her back. “I’m here, I’m here.” he was, and it was everything she needed.
Baby, tell me when you're ready
I'm waitin'
Baby, any time you're ready
I'm waitin'
Even ten years from now
If you haven't found somebody
I promise, I'll be around
Tell me when you're ready
I'm waitin'
“Do you ever think about marriage?” she blurbed out without thinking.
Matty laughed out loud at her question. The rest of the guys left hours before, she was crushing at his for the night, so they chose to spend a few more hours drinking and sharing a joint. The boy took the burning stick from her hands, trying to figure out if she was being serious. She was.
“What do you mean?”
Her eyes fell on his face behind the cloud of smoke he exuded. “Do think you would marry…in the future?”
“Not really.”
“Why?”
“‘Cause the band is my priority.”
“Yes, I know but-”
“I’m not thinking that far ahead.”
“Right.”
“I’d make you my best man, though.” Matty tried to joke, not being able to notice or sense her heart swell with the idea.
“I think smoking weed is making you blind.” she said, dry. “I’m a girl.”
“Yeah, I noticed…” Matty let his eyes wandered around her body lying down beside his. She should’ve felt heat under his gaze, but her skin was frozen. He was glancing at her like a piece of meat. She didn’t want that, she wanted more.
“Shut up.”
His eyes snapped back to life after a moment of being lost. He caught her eyes saying, “You’re my girl, you’re my man. You’re my everything. I love the guys but this…” his hand flying around their bodies. “This is different. I’m not sure if I can live without you.” she agreed in the same and such a different way.
“I’m not going anywhere…you are, rock star.”
“Oh, sweetheart, you’re coming with us. With me.” Matty let his hand extend to take hers, pushing it over his clothed heart.
What if my dad is right
When he says that you're the one
No, I can't even argue
I won't even fight him on it
Call you when it's late
And I know that you're in bed
'Cause I'm three hours back
Seems like you're always six ahead
“Sweets.” his deep voice from across the room.
“Yes, pops?” she walked closer, kneeling in front of his rocking chair. His face pale, losing all the colours life painted on his skin during the years. She wanted to cry, she didn’t let herself.
His wrinkled hand finding the apple of her right cheek. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothin’ is, old man.”
“Your eyes are sad.” the affirmation took her aback hard. “What’s wrong?”
“I promise nothing is.” she took his hand between her owns. “I’m fine, you’re fine. We’re fine.” she laughed at her words nervously.
“Where is the Elvis fan?”
She tried to keep her smile on her face when she asked, “Matty?”
“That one.”
“He’s in Asia. Y’know, shows, tour, and everything a rock star does.” she said, standing up feeling his eyes on her face trying to read her. He was the only one with x-ray eyes.
“He’s a good kid.”
Matty would be stoked hearing her grandfather’s words. They were each other's fans.
“Do you think he’s the one, sweets?”
Her eyes shoot directly to his. The blue colour in them disappeared a little day by day, doctors said he was loosing his sight. Hard to believe when it was stronger than ever staring into her soul.
“What are you talkin’ about?”
“He’s the one, isn’t he?”
“It’s- No, it’s- It’s not like that between us, okay?” she walked from side to side, trying to avoid the topic. The older man was wiser.
“You want that. You love him.”
She chose to ignore him, giving him a simple explanation about starting lunch. The lingering sound of his knowing laugh following her around.
***
Reading when your mind is full of feelings and worries is a difficult task to complete. She closed the book on her lap with a big huff. Her grandad was taking a nap, reason why she had enough time to let her thoughts invade her head.
Her phone looking back at her a few meters away. She looked at it, resting her head on her palm. Her body pulled up from the porch’s stairs, walking anxiously around. ‘The old man is crazy’, she reasoned. ‘The sickness reached his brain’.
Quickly as she stood up, the woman went to grab the device, tapping away until she was calling him. ‘He’ll see I’m not…Matty’s my friend.’, the repeated thought until Matty picked up with a sleepy voice.
“Missin’ me, sweetheart?” he said, making her heart explode. Shit.
“Not much as you.”
“How did you know?” Matty loved to teased her. Not expecting a real answer, he continued talking, “How’s he?”
“Fuckin’ mental.” she pressed her foot hard into the grass like an angry kid.
Don't know why I tried
'Cause ain't nobody like you
Familiar disappointment every single time I do
Every single night my arms are not around you
My mind's still wrapped around you
His concrete bunker hugging her. The house was quiet since she was the only one taking care of the place while he was away. She missed him, living inside his house for a few days wasn’t enough.
Matty: Just landed. I’ll see you soon, sweetheart x
She groaned at the screen.
Baby, tell me when you're ready
I'm waitin'
Baby, any time you're ready
I'm waitin'
Even ten years from now
If you haven't found somebody
I promise, I'll be around
Tell me when you're ready
I'm waitin', yeah
“I asked her.”
He said just after she plopped down beside him on his fancy couch.
“Ask who what?” she took a few chips from the pot.
“I asked her…” he stressed the word more than she expected. “To marry me.”
Her heart skipped a few beets, her eyes wide. The chips got stucked on her throat, so she started coughing. Her body and soul drowning.
Once she calmed down, after drinking half of her pint of beer, she exclaimed, “You did what?”
Matty laughed at her, thinking she was only surprised. He was surprised even.
“I asked her to marry me. I'm finally going to make you my best man.”
His words crushing her heart like it was nothing.
“I- I- I don’t know what to say.” she looked at his eyes. He was happy and she wanted to die.
“Congratulations maybe?”
“Did she say yes?”
Matty scoffed, “Of course she said yes! It’s me!”
“Of course she said yes…” she repeated like a crazy woman.
“Oh, c’mon! Be happy for me!” he urged her.
“I…” what could she do in a moment like that? Just lie. “I’m happy, Matty!”
“Hug me!”
“Is she really sure to marry a needy boy like you?” the only way out was a joke.
“You think you’re so witty and funny.” Matty’s voice dripping sarcasm. “Close your mouth and hug me.”
And she did.
“I can’t believe it.” she whispered into his shoulder. The mix of cigarettes and his cologne taking over her senses.
“Hey,” he moved back. “This…” Matty flew his hand between them. “This is not going away because I’m marrying her, okay?”
‘I’m sure everything is going to change’, she thought.
“I know, Matty.”
He brought her back into his chest, where she just wanted to stay forever.
And if I have to, I'll wait forever (yeah)
Say the word and I'll change my plans
Yeah, you know that we fit together
I know your heart like the back of my hand
“Here you are.” she exclaimed after turning around the last corner of the fancy hotel.
Matty didn’t move a muscle, smoking his cigarette, being unaware of his family and friends looking for the groom.
“Here I am.” he hit a small stone with his shoe.
She let all the anger left her body when she noticed his struggle.
“Everything alright?” her voice cut the short silence that fell between them.
“Yes. No. I don’t even know, sweetheart.”
Her body moving closer, she couldn’t help it. “Matt-”
“What if this is a mistake?”
“Matty.”
“What if marrying her tomorrow…it’s the biggest mistake of my life, and y’know I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I can’t-” she watched him brush his hair back anxiously.
“Matthew.”
“Is this a mistake?” he looked at her.
She had the answer ready at the tip of her tongue, she wanted to beg for him not to say ‘I do’. Selfishness wasn’t part of her list of characteristics.
“Matty.” his hands were cold, the night air brought goosebumps to her skin. “Look at me.” she stood in front of him. “This is not a mistake. You love her, and she- she loves you.” the singer smile for the first time. “Even if this is a mistake, only time will tell. Do you want to marry her?” she dared to ask.
“Yes.” he muttered.
“Then that’s all that matters, Matty.”
“What would I do without you?” the lights outside reflecting on his beautiful eyes. They showed so much care for her. It warmed and crushed her beating heart.
“Survive. Now you’ll have a wife for all this.”
“No. This-” Matty went to move his hand, but she stopped him.
“Stop with that.”
“I’m serious.”
“I know you’re…it’s not real, Matty.” her eyes look softly into his.
He wanted to ask her, to protest even, although someone ran closer to them.
“Fuck me!” George swore behind them. “He’s here!” he shouted back to someone.
So baby, tell me when you're ready
I'm waitin'
Baby, any time you're ready
I'm waitin', yeah
“Matthew, do you take…” the old man between the couple started to say. “To be your lawfully wedded wife? Do promise to love and cherish her, in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, for richer for poorer, for better for worse, and forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto her, for so long as you both shall live?”
“I do.” he said, the whole church erupted into applauses as if they were one of the band’s crowd at a show.
She didn’t feel like it was real. It was done. He was officially married to someone else, and she was going to witness his love from the side. Realization hit her.
Even ten years from now
If you haven't found somebody
I promise, I'll be around
Tell me when you're ready
I'm waitin', yeah
Baby, tell me when you're ready
I'm waitin', yeah
Baby, any time you're ready
I'm waitin', oh
Even ten years from now
If you haven't found somebody
I promise, I'll be around
Tell me when you're ready
She opened her eyes, staring at the white ceiling above her. The light was too bright, and her mouth felt like she swallowed a big chunk of ashes.
Someone said her name, the sound silenced by her disoriented mind. Her head turned slowly, looking at Matty sitting on the floor.
Her name on his lips once more. His lips moving, although the sound didn’t reach her ears. He pushed her hair to the side, furrowing his eyes…worried.
“I’m fine.” she said. “What happened?” she tried to blink away the sickness taking over her body.
“You fainted, sweetheart.”
Her eyes closed tight, cringing visibly, “Fuck.”
“You almost gave me a heart attack, too.”
“Drama queen.”
“You fainted at my wedding, sweets.”
The nickname functioning as a calling for her eyes to return to Matty’s. He called her so many times ‘sweetheart’ she was used to it. On the other hand, no one except pops called her ‘sweets’. Her hearth swelling painfully, she lost every important man of her life.
“Hey, hey…” Matty noticed the change on her factions. “It’s fine. We only care about you, nothing else.”
‘We, as him and her’, she reminded herself.
“I’m fine.” she tried to push her body up but the room was moving quicker, she had to lay down once more. Her eyes shielded from the outside world by her arm.
“No so fast.” Matty helped her.
She supposed they were somewhere around the hotel. The party, his party. The weeding, Matty’s wedding at the other side of the closed door.
“You should go, Matty.” he started protesting, even though she shushed him. “I’ll be fine. I promise I won’t move from here. I’ll call you if I need you, okay?”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure.” she was far from that. She wanted to keep him inside the room with her. “I’ll live. This is just another drunk story. Don’t worry.” the lies dropping faster than she could stop her mouth.
“I’ll come to check on you.”
“Fine.” she agreed, not really believing his words.
“See you in a bit, sweetheart.”
“Mhm.”
A tear rolled from her eyes after the door closed. She focused on it travelling down the side of her head, trying not to think or feel any more.
I'm waitin', I'm waitin'
lost in japan (d.s)
you're getting ready for bed in your small apartment, which for you, meant going back and forth between cleaning, working on lesson plans, and watching TV for hours on a friday night since you didn't have to be up early the next morning. typically, you'd be up quite late after a long week of teaching english to japanese students every day.
you love your job, truly, teaching and travel were your passion, and this opportunity has been amazing- but that didn't necessarily mean you couldn't get a little burnt out. you're homesick, more than anything. you miss your family and friends back home in north carolina, not to mention the beaches, and the sort of small town vibe that was nowhere to be found in tokyo.
you're just finishing up doing some dishes when your phone rings, and you're quick to dry off your hands and pick it up, furrowing your brow in confusion at the contact that's popped up. drew was busy, he was always busy, but you had been missing him, too. "hey, drew." you answer with a smile, quickly turning down the volume on the tv.
"hey! y/n, how's it going?" he asks, unbeknownst to you, chewing on his nails as he sits in an airport in another country.
"i'm well..." you answer, tilting your head a little bit. you're happy to hear his voice, of course, but still surprised. "what about you? how's filming?"
"it's good! i've got a bit of a break for the next couple weeks." drew answers, bouncing his leg and looking around the crowded room.
"that's good! you deserve a break." you smile, sitting down on your bed now. "what did i do to warrant the pleasure of a call?"
you talk to drew often, of course, being good friends since you met in university. you both had overlapping english classes and instantly clicked, and were luckily able to maintain contact even after he "made it big". he insists he would never forget about you, despite you joking about it regularly.
"well i was thinking, since i've got this break, maybe i could come visit you for a week or so." drew answers nervously. "i did want to surprise you, but i realize i don't know where exactly you live and tokyo is a big city so you might be hard to find." he rambles on a bit, waiting anxiously on your response.
"oh! uhm.." you reply, completely caught off-guard by his suggestion. you'd love to have him, but as you look around your small studio apartment, you're not sure there's room for company. not to mention, it would be a little embarrassing. you try to stay on top of cleaning, but it's hard to organize with little space.
"it's okay if you don't want me to come! god, i- i'm sorry, y/n, i shouldn't have thrown this on you so suddenly-" drew quickly backtracks, shaking his head at his own stupidity. of course he should have given you a bigger heads up.
"no! of course i want you to come!" you're quick to ease his mind as you sit up in excitement. "my apartment is just a little... tight, that's all. i was just thinking of where you would sleep. but of course, you're always welcome. when were you thinking of coming? i just need to organize a bit."
"well..." drew chuckles a little nervously. "do you have any plans tonight? i'm kind of already at the airport. i just couldn't get you off my mind today, decided to just go for it and hope you're okay with a guest."
you freeze up a little, in a bit of shock as you blush. he was thinking about you? "oh! uh, yeah! i can meet you at the airport. what time do you leave? what time do you land?" you ask, standing up and looking towards your closet. you're getting ahead of yourself- it will obviously be a long flight, but now you're nervous. you've always had a bit of a crush on him, which was kind of an understatement.
"you don't have to do that." drew instantly protests. "i think i'll land around two-thirty tokyo time. i'll just take a cab, if you can send me your address and be up to let me in?"
"nonsense, drew, of course i'll come meet you." you giggle, already shuffling through your clothes as you look at your alarm clock. it's only eight, so you can try and get some sleep before you have to go. "i've got no classes until monday, i'll have a quick nap and meet you at the airport at two-thirty."
"sweet! that'd be awesome." drew replies, smiling to himself. he's so excited to see you, more and more recently he's been thinking about you. truly missing you, and he figured he'd take a leap of faith and come visit- especially since he knows you've been lonely. maybe, he thinks, he'll even be able to tell you how he feels. how he's always felt, and he'll be leaving japan finally able to call you his girlfriend. "so, uh, i guess i'll see you tonight, then?"
"see you tonight." you agree, absolutely giddy with excitement. "have a safe flight!" you quickly add in, almost forgetting your manners with the flood of adrenaline in your system.
"thanks, y/n/n. see you in a bit!" drew smiles, hanging up. perfect timing, too, they're about to start boarding.
you stand at the almost empty arrivals area of the tokyo international airport, anxiously watching the escalator and waiting to see drew after months apart. you had put on some of your nicest casual clothes, not wanting to look overdressed, but not like a mess either. after all, you had six hours to plan the outfit, considering you couldn't sleep for even a minute.
you look down at your phone again, checking the time for what must be the hundredth time since you left the apartment. two fifty-three. his flight landed on time, according to the screen on the wall, so he should be walking out any minute. you get a pit in your stomach, you're so nervous.
drew has the same feeling as he tries to blindly follow the other people who got off his flight, unable to read any of the signs directing passengers to arrivals and baggage claim. it's a long walk in a big airport, but it feels a million times longer since he's anxious to get to you. he comes to the escalator, seeing a few people waiting at the bottom, his eyes scanning for you, who he quickly finds. he feels his heart rate increase and he smiles, adjusting his bag in his grip, already feeling his hands getting sweaty. that's when you notice him too.
you smile wide, giving him an excited wave. you're practically shaking with excitement, or nerves, but you're just happy to not be so alone anymore. he gets to the bottom and gets off, quickly making his way over to you, you cringe a little when he drops his bags and opens his arms for a hug, you really wanted to hug him, of course, but culturally you know you'll get stares and disapproving looks. "hey!" you grin, immediately reaching out and blocking his arms. he furrows his brows in confusion, his eyes flashing with disappointment.
"sorry." you chuckle, awkwardly moving his arms back to his sides. "it's kind of rude to hug in public." you explain, looking around and hoping no one is offended. luckily only a couple people noticed, and they avert their eyes when they see you correcting him.
"oh, uh, i didn't know that. sorry.." drew blushes, avoiding your eyes for a moment.
"you're fine." you insist, trying to cheer him up. "i missed you, i'm glad you're here."
"i missed you too." drew replies, smile returning to his cheeks now. he doubts it will leave the whole time he's here.
"uh, do you have bags?" you ask him, gesturing toward the baggage carousel.
"nope, carry on only." he says proudly, lifting his bag off the ground and throwing his backpack over his shoulder.
"oh, perfect! then we get first dibs on a cab. follow me." you smile, turning and walking towards the exit. god, you hate making small talk, but the silence in the quiet airport is killing you.
"so, how's work?" drew asks, trying to hide the nervousness in his tone. he hasn't seen you in person in close to a year, and even then you were both so busy you had to squeeze in coffee on a lunch break when he happened to be filming close to home.
"it's good! i really love it." you nod, glancing back at him as you guys step outside. "the kids are all so sweet. it's a great opportunity."
"that's awesome. it sounds like fun." drew nods, looking around to try and get a bearing on his surroundings. it's humid out, but not hot.
"it is, yeah." you say. "one sec, i think this one is free-" he watches as you wrap your sweater tighter around yourself, walking up to a cab and waving to the driver as he unlocks the doors. you turn and wave for him to join you, and he walks up and opens the door for you, letting you in first.
you say something to the driver in japanese, drew assumes you're telling him your address, and quickly after that you guys are moving.
you don't talk much on the drive, again, it's polite to stay quiet, so when you do you only whisper. it's about a half hour drive to your apartment, and you get out, looking up at the familiar building quickly before thanking the driver and paying him.
"i can pay you back, how much was it?" drew says as you fumble with your keys.
"seven-thousand yen." you answer, giggling and looking up at him as you push the door open, knowing that means absolutely nothing to him.
"uh, in usd?" drew chuckles, following you in.
"don't worry about it." you giggle and lead him up the stairs to the third floor where your room is.
"it's really small-" you pause before you open the door. "and a bit of a mess so i'm sorry, we can find you a hotel tomorrow it was just a bit short notice."
"i don't care." drew shakes his head, smiling down at you. "we just get to spend more quality time together, hey? it's fine."
"okay bigshot, suit yourself." you chuckle, shaking your head as you open the door. you both shuffle in and you try to get out of his way so he can put his stuff down, and the second he drops it on the floor his arms are around you.
you freeze for a moment before hugging him back, leaning your head on his chest. "i've been thinking about this for months.." he mutters, taking in the scent of your hair, your skin, just you.
"me too." you whisper back, gently rubbing his back.
"no, like- you don't understand." he says, pulling away only a little to look down at you. "i- shit." he chuckles, shaking his head slightly in embarrassment. "i've really missed you. i think about you all the time, the best part of my week is when i get the chance to call you."
“me too.” you repeat yourself, blushing a little as you don’t know what else to say.
“well, come on, no, you’re living your dream out here.” drew laughs, gesturing around you only to return his hand to your back.
“so are you.” you raise your eyebrow at him and he shrugs.
“yeah, well, not really. my dream isn’t complete without you.” he bites the bullet, hoping you’ll understand what he’s saying. he chews a little on his bottom lip as he locks eyes with you, scanning them to get some kind of grasp on what you were thinking, or feeling.
your cheeks burn furiously as you briefly look down, unsure really what to say. “well… me too.” you giggle, laughing at having to say the same thing again.
a small smile flickers on drew’s lips and he reaches his hand up, hesitating to place it on your cheek and gently lifting your jaw to meet his eyes again. he hears his heart beating in his chest, and so do you, as he very slowly at first leans in. his lips meet yours so gently it’s like he’s scared he’ll break you, making you smile against his lips as you kiss him back. almost so much that it makes the task at hand impossible.
“i’ve been wanting you to do that for years.” you admit, staring into his blue eyes as you pull away only about an inch.
his forehead stays pressed against yours as he smiles, his breath tickling your lips as he speaks. “that sucks, because i’ve wanted to do that for years. you should’ve said something, y/n/n.”
it’s safe to assume now that you won’t be needing the bed you made for yourself on the floor.
Look up at the stars - Pablo Gavi x Reader
Proposal 💞
------------------------------------------------------------
it was a Friday night. You and your long term boyfriend, Pablo Gavi were walking through the empty streets of late night Barcelona.
For Gavi, everything pretty reminded him of you. Even the streetlights are all saying your name are to him, they always say your name to him.
" Before we go home.. " Gavi started, you looked over at him and smiled telling him to continue." I should let you know that.. I'm so glad that you came. I know we went out late and you're busy tomorrow. Thank you, y/n. " you smiled and kissed him.
Pablo gently held your face and pulled away. Looking up, he raised a head to your chin to make you look at the stars. " look up at the stars, mi amor." Pablo gently demanded. " they're like pieces of art, floating above the ground.. " you commented.
Pablo wasn't looking at the sky, he couldn't focus on it when your face was so close his- he couldn't help but stare at it, both of your two eyes were filled with pure love.
" you know, we could fly so far together.. For your career.. I'll go anywhere for and with you, pablito." you confessed, still looking at the stars in awe.
And looking at you, Pablo finally decided to ask you the question he's been wanting to ask all night- but was scared to during dinner.
While you were still falling in love with the stars, he got on one knee, pulling out the ring box from his pocket. He tugged at your arm to look at you. And when you did, you were even more inlove with him than those stars.
" y/n m/n l/n. I promise to give you the universe. The universe will be yours- the universe is ours already. I promise that not I'm not gunna let you down. Will you marry me? " he finally asked.
It took you a moment before finally fully processing his chaotic speech. You knelt down to his level and started your own little speech.
" I am feeling so lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky that I'm the woman you wanna marry." you started your own speech, finishing it with your answer. " yes, I'll marry you."
The sunrise caused the sun to shine down on you, and Pablo thought you were an angel around him.
" with you, I know I'll never be alone, Pablo." you said before kissing your now fiancé. You two were now standing up and walking back to your shared apartment.
" when finally we met, I feel inlove with you. And now that we're engaged it feels like now the lights are set.." Pablo rambled, he could get ready poetic in romantic moments like this.
" it's taken us til now.. These stars gave me the confidence to ask you to be mi amor for the rest of our lives. To be together in this city. Ever since that day you signed that shirt for that fan of mine, I've been making plans... Plans of us. " Pablo was not going to shut up, till you made him.
" somehow you seem to understand how to make your fiancé fall even more in love with you." you said, stopping Pablo from speaking and kissing you instead.
" let us spend the night in wonderland together. Wondering about our wedding." you said into the kiss, and Pablo nodded in agreement.
Smol Brainstorm: Met Gala 2024
Ok! Another brainstorm! Jennie at Met Gala 2024! Some scenes I thought of for it. For the story, whenever BlackPink's Jennie is in scenes, I will put my OC, BTS' Jennie, as Jen for dialogue while keeping BlackPink's Jennie as Jennie. I truly hope it won't be so confusing. Back in 2016 when I planned the story and made the chapters, it was before BlackPink debuted and when I saw Jennie, I was like oops, should I change my character's name? But then I decided to keep it. I felt like I could work around it. J&J hehe.
For now, I'll keep the majority of Jen's met gala look for 2024 a bit vague since I'm still brainstorming and tend to change my mind a lot so whenever I officially get to this chapter in the story, I'll add more detail. I kind of want her to wear wings though. I'll see how I feel when I officially get to that moment in the story.
I'm not too sure the reason why Shawn Mendes didn't attend this year's Met Gala so we just gonna say he chose not to attend and was working on music in the studio in NYC instead or something. But I do plan for the two of them to hang out and see each other. I remember seeing tweets the day after the Met Gala that he was seen by fans and took photos. I think it was at Central Park?? I think. So I'll write scenes about that too for the future chapter.
Furthermore, Jennie will be vocal and call out the rude reporters who were rude to Stray Kids at the Met Gala. That wasn't cool at all. She'll tweet and speak about it, defending them.
Like always, these scenes will probably be a bit longer and more detailed during the final product. :)
-------
Still in her casual clothes, Jennie was filmed for a Bangtan Bomb gathering the packaged baked goods she recently made. She was currently staying at The Mark, and The Met Gala was going to start in just a few hours. Excitement was building up inside her because this was the first time she'd be attending alone, since her usual companion, Shawn Mendes, chose not to attend.
"I'm still shooked I made it to Anna Wintour's VIP list. This is insane. I'm so blessed and honored. Like wow. I couldn't attend last year but I'm happy to be back for 2024. ARMY are here to see me, today, too. I've been scrolling on Twitter and watching tweets of them waiting outside. They had probably been waiting since this morning so I asked the staff to provide water and food for them. They should be receiving it now. I know it's exhausting having to wait hours just to see a glimpse of your favs. I want to try to at least say hi before getting in the van. Also! Stray Kids and BlackPink's Jennie are attending The Met Gala this year! So, I get to see them! I baked cupcakes for them, so let's go visit them and then get ready for the Met Gala,"
She chose to go see Stray Kids first. As she made her way to their room, she happily talked about the group and loved how more K-Pop groups were attending events in America. It was a beautiful thing. From PSY, Wonder Girls, Bangtan, NCT, and other acts, it was great to see more exposure for Korean Pop in America.
After knocking on the door, she was immediately greeted by Bang Chan who grinned.
"Jennie, you're here!" his eyes lit up.
"Hey! I came to see you, guys! Is this a bad time?"
"Did you say, Jennie!?" Han pushed past some of the boys to get a good view of the door while Bang Chan opened it wider to reveal her to the guys.
"Jennie is here?" Felix's eyes lit up as the boys started to get excited to see her, as well as seeing a familiar face.
"It's not a bad time at all, come in, Smartie!" Bang Chan let her inside as she walked in.
"Hey, guys! I made cupcakes for you to eat after the event! I hope you like them. Chocolate and vanilla," she gave Bang Chan the box, who set it down on the table as the boys were grateful.
After they bowed to each other, she smiled as they were lined up, giving her their undivided attention. Felix and Han couldn't contain the big smiles on their faces as they watched her. They couldn't wait to see her look for the Met Gala.
"It's been a while, huh? How are you guys?" she asked.
"We've been well! It's our first time attending the Met Gala and it's a huge honor," Han answered. "I'm looking forward to having a great time, today. And with you here, seeing you gave me strength for today,"
"Aw, thank you! That's so sweet. I'm really happy you boys got invited. If there is anyone who deserves it, it's you, guys,"
"Thanks, Jennie,"
"Of course! And can I just say, Felix, that hair color suits you so well!? I hope you keep it for a while. It reminds me of The Witcher a little bit,"
Loving her compliment, Felix thanked her and felt himself blushing as he grinned, looking away for a moment.
"He's blushing again. Every time," I.N teased with the boys.
"Do you have any tips for us?" Seungmin asked.
"Yeah! Listen, I understand. I know you guys are nervous. I'm nervous, too. Every event I have attended so far I have always been nervous. My butterflies go crazy as I'm about to arrive, too. Like, everyone's eyes are on you and you're modeling and strutting what you got on. But just breathe. Relax. Be yourself," she answered.
"Us being ourselves is a bit chaotic. We'll try to contain it," Bang Chan playfully warned.
She laughed with them. "I've seen first hand. You guys have a unique aura that draws viewers in. And you know Stays are watching the Met Gala for YOU! Think of them and how you guys are on stage,"
"You're right about that. I just hope I don't make any mistakes. Like trip on the stairs or something," he laughed.
"Real. Oh my God, do you remember when I almost tripped that one year? I was like oh shit but caught myself,"
Bang Chan laughed lightly at the memory. "I remember your face! Bam Bam wouldn't stop roasting you for weeks,"
"Yo, he got on my nerves! At least I was kind of graceful with it,"
"Yeah, you did play it off, pretty well,"
After their conversation, the boys felt more at ease thanks to her encouraging words.
"Before I go, can I give you guys hugs?" she kindly asked for permission.
"Yes, please!" Felix and Han immediately said, causing the boys to laugh at their eagerness.
She giggled. "Bring it in!"
It amused the boys when Felix and Han both playfully pushed each other to try to be the first one to hug her. In the end, Felix got to her first, enjoying her warm hug. Then one by one, she hugged everyone else. After hugging Bang Chan last, the two did their secret handshake afterward, impressing the members.
"I'll be attending the Met Gala as well," she reminded. "If you need me for anything, just let me know. All eyes are going to be on you and you guys are gonna kill it out there. Ever since I saw you guys, I knew you'd be superstars. I'm so proud of what you've accomplished so far. Keep up the amazing work!"
------------
"Knock knock~!" Jen knocked on Jennie's door in rhythm.
As soon as Jennie opened up, her eyes lit up and she let out a squeal of excitement, pulling Jen into her arms for a big hug.
"You're here~!"
"I'm here~! I missed you! I made you cupcakes to eat after the event,"
"You spoil everyone! Thank you! When are you going to open up a bakery? Everyone needs to eat these," she happily accepted them and walked into the room with her, placing it on the table.
"One day. It'll happen. I definitely want it to. So, how was your Gentle Monster event?"
"It was so fun! The decorations were cute. You got yours, right?"
"Mm hm. They're cute. Thank you,"
"You've been at the Met Gala a few times and you're attending again. How are you feeling?"
"You know it's crazy. I never even thought I'd get sucked into the world of fashion. I just wanted Nike. I never thought of any other brand. But everything blew up ever since getting sponsored by Nike and attending Seoul Fashion Week for the first time. Like I was so clueless about fashion but ever since then, I embraced it and took it upon myself to learn more about it. I like it. It's fun. I like how people express themselves through clothing. It's beautiful,"
"Right? Your come up in fashion is amazing. I know the guys and ARMY are so proud of you,"
"Thanks, Jennie. I kid you not when I first got invited to the Met Gala I scared shitless. Like um...ME? It's an honor. How are you feeling about tonight?"
"I definitely feel a lot more relaxed this year,"
------
After heading back to her room, Jennie continued to be filmed by Vogue and a Bangtan Bomb camera while getting ready. After interviews and photos, she was just about ready to leave. As she scrolled through her phone, she tweeted her excitement on seeing Stray Kids already there and Jennie in her beautiful blue dress.
'Stray Kids!! They look so good! And yasssss Jennie! You better work! #JW' she tweeted with heart eyed emojis.
Immediately ARMY responded under the tweet, asking for her whereabouts:
'Ma'am! Where is BTS' Jennie?! You showing up? We need a J & J reunion!'
'AHEM! When are YOU going to the met gala!?'
'Ummmm Jennie did you forget your way to the met gala? If so here are the directions! Aren't you going!?'
'Where are YOU!?'
'Are you and Shawn Mendes attending this year!?'
'Did you get invited?'
Seeing all the tweets, Jennie laughed and tweeted, 'LOL! Relax!'
In response, ARMY tweeted:
'Telling us to relax, ma'am we wanna see YOU!'
'Is this a sign queen is coming!?'
'History about to be made again! That's confirmation!'
After discussing on camera the designer she was wearing and her thoughts on attending another year, she bowed and thanked all the staff members for helping her get to this point for the show.
At the entrance of The Mark, Jennie inhaled and exhaled deeply, anticipating what was about to happen. Reporters and fans were waiting for the next celebrity to walk out of The Mark to reveal their outfit, making predictions on who would be next.
"Ready?" Diana grinned.
"Yeah, let's do it," Jennie nodded.
As soon as she heard a loud shout of her name once she walked outside, loud screaming and cheering were heard. It startled the photographers and reporters as they turned to who was the cause of the pandemonium and began snapping away, filming her smiling brightly. Jennie immediately looked around, seeing a lot of ARMY there to support which warmed her heart. Smiling directly at the fans, she waved happily while Diana stood to the side, watching proudly. Loud chants of her name occurred along with chants of BTS.
"Wow, that is a lot of ARMY," Diana was surprised.
Diana watched, amused at how Jennie talked about how nervous she was but proceeded to pose confidently for the camera. The crowd was mesmerized by her outfit, loving how on theme she was, and was curious about the wings attached to her, hoping she'd present them more when she arrived at the Met Gala.
"Hi! Hi, hi, hi, hi! Thank you so much for being here!" Jennie quickly said once approaching fans, trying to give as many hugs and high fives as possible.
She even managed to take a few selfies for lucky fans and grabbed one phone to take a big group photo.
"We gotta go, Jen! We're a little late," Diana warned.
After getting inside the van, the loud screaming for her continued.
"Sooooo many ARMY! Oh my gosh, it warmed my heart! After seeing them, I'm not even nervous anymore," she beamed.
Fans tweet:
'The way she stopped to say hi to ARMY although she had to rush to get inside the van!'
'I got hugged by Jennie! IM SOBBING!'
'SHE ATE AND LICKED THE PLATE!'
'SHE'S HERE! SHE'S ATTENDING THIS YEAR!'
-------
When finally arriving at the Met Gala, she took in another deep breath, meeting with Emma Chamberlain in the back, who she was excited to see. Every time they met up, it was always a vibe.
Emma gasped at the sight of Jennie's outfit and went to hug her. "Jen! Hi~! We missed you last year! It's so good to see you back at the Met Gala!"
"Hi~! Thank you! I've been anticipating seeing you! I love being interviewed by you," she beamed as she held her own Vogue microphone.
"Aw, thank you!"
"Thank you! You always know the best things to say. Speaking with you is always a joy. I'm happy to be back here. I'm pumped, I'm ready,"
"You look amazing!"
"YOU look amazing! Look at this! The hair? The makeup!? The dress is giving. I gotta give you a 10 out of 10. Just wow,"
The two girls giggled as they continued to compliment each other.
"How has your day been? Was it hectic getting ready? Tell me about it,"
"It went smoothly! I visited Jennie Kim, that's my girl, right there. J & J forever! I can't wait to see her inside. She looked stunning in her blue dress. She truly is the best. And I went to visit Stray Kids! I love those boys. I'm so happy they got invited this year, they look amazing and I'm very proud of them. I also gave food and water to fans waiting outside The Mark. I just love ARMY so much, their support is undeniable and I'm forever grateful,"
"I heard a lot of buzz about you telling staff to give food and water to fans outside. That was very sweet of you,"
"Yeah! I'm like, they're standing out there for hours, let me make sure they're hydrated and stuff, you know? I just feel a lot of good energy today. I saw a lot of ARMY, they truly gave me a lot of strength while being here. I'm very excited to walk the carpet and show off my look,"
After discussing what she was wearing, Sebastian Stan, who was walking in the background, noticed her and politely placed a hand on her shoulder, causing her to turn around.
"Oh my gosh~! Hi!" Jennie quickly embraced him.
"Oh! Marvel co-stars reuniting!" Emma announced with a smile. "We got Sebastian Stan!"
"I'm sorry to interrupt, you look gorgeous," he said. "I love the fit,"
"Thanks so much! It was good to run into you! I'll see you inside!"
After her interview with Emma, Jennie finally made her entrance to the Met Gala. As soon as fans saw her appear, loud screaming was heard as she smiled and waved.
"Oh! And if you hear the pandemonium, you know that BTS' Jennie has arrived, making her return to The Met Gala. Absolutely stunning!" Ashley Graham announced as she stood next to Gwendoline Christie.
Catching a glimpse of some silly signs fans were holding up, including a big sign of her face, Jennie ended up laughing, pointing it out. As she walked to the steps, she posed confidently at every angle as photographers shouted her name so she could look in their direction.
Glancing at her designer who gave her the cue, she pressed a button on her dress. Suddenly, her wings expanded and began to move slightly on their own, surprising the audience. The cheering increased in volume as she grinned and posed again with the wings.
After she was told to continue moving forward, she began walking up the steps, going straight to Lala Anthony to embrace her.
"Mrs. Jennie Jeon, look at you! It's great to see you, again!"
"Lala! You're gonna fluster me," she giggled as her heart fluttered at the last name.
"We love seeing you glow! Married life looks beautiful on you,"
"Thank you and thanks for having me! It's great to see you!"
"Now, first of all, this dress! The wings! They're literally moving! What was the vision for this? This is everything!"
"Thank you! This took a long time to make, especially with the wings. It's a little heavy but I'm doing well keeping myself composed. I wanted a little bit of BTS with me for this look. No matter the distance of where my boys are, they are always with me. So, while being on theme I also wanted to incorporate a butterfly. Hence, the wings. We have a song, Butterfly. I highly recommend people to listen to it. It's beautiful,"
As they continued to talk, Lala asked her about how married life was going.
Jennie grinned at the question as her mind went to Jungkook. "I love it. I am still patiently waiting for him to return home. 2025 will be here before we know it,"
"All the boys are still enlisted, yes?"
"Yeah, I'm counting down the days! Jin is getting discharged next month!" she said excitedly. "I miss him. I miss all of them. Time really flew so I'm excited to be able to give him a big hug when he comes back home,"
"We can't wait, either. I know ARMY is very excited,"
"Oh yeah, it's gonna be a movie!"
"Okay, so last month you were at Wrestlemania and now you're at the Met Gala. You're all over the place, huh?"
"Yeah, I'm basically doing side quests, right now. It's pretty fun!" she giggled.
---------
Later on in the evening, those on Weverse suddenly got a notification:
[BTS Weverse] JK created a new post! : Wow!! Proud to call you my lady!
Along with heart eyed emojis and photos of her at the Met Gala.
Fans immediately rushed in to respond about it, gushing over the cute post:
'Omfg he posted!'
'Best husband!'
'Mum and Dad!'
'Husband of the year!'
'If he's not like Jungkook then I don't want it!'
'Jungkook is the cutest husband ever!'
'Showing love while he's enlisted!'
'The standard!!'
'I know he misses her BAD.'
Life of the Party
Pairing: Sirius Black x Fem!reader
Characters: Sirius Black, Fem!reader, James Potter, Lily Potter nee Evans, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Marlene McKinnon, Dorcas Meadows, Nymphadora Tonks (briefly mentioned), Harry Potter (briefly mentioned)
Warnings: Angst, this is random, during the first war, has bits of the sceond war involved, this probably doesn't track with the timeline, but certainly kept me entertained, not all information is accurate but that's to be expected, I had no idea where this was going, the last line makes me cry on the inside
Word Count: 2,601
A/N: Was I watching "Only Murders in the building" while writing this, giving it the murder mystery vibe, I feel it has? Maybe. No regrets though.
James took his time proposing
Voldemort slowly started getting stronger and then Peter joined him.
There are no known reactions to the bloodroot poison... I made up my own, hence the murder mystery vibe.
This is partially inspired by "Life of the Party" by Shawn Mendes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I’m telling you to take your shot, it might be scary.” You shrug, "maybe she's ready for you two to take the next step." You're just hoping that if you push him a little more, they can be even happier.
And maybe, James can finally shut up about wanting to have the same last name, whatever comes first.
James nods, taking in every word you’re saying.
“We don’t have the time to be sorry," you tell him.
The faint whispers of evil lurking around every corner are slowly becoming louder in your mind.
You hold your breath for a second.
“She’s right,” Marlene shrugs.
Dorcas shakes her head, not liking it when the two of you agree with one another.
The blonde shares a look with the girl closest to her. “Why doesn’t he just man up and ask her?”
The dark-haired woman shrugs, “I don’t know. You’re asking the wrong person.”
Sirius leans against you with his arm wrapped around your shoulder, "am I hearing that Prongs is going to be an idiot again? Still don't know how to pop the question, do you?"
James rolls his eyes. "Thank you," he says to you before running off. "Look at that, we're alone now."
“Are we invisible to you, you dolt?” Dorcas grabs Marlene’s wrist and hauls her out of your home.
“I think he's going to do it now.”
“He’s not.”
“You want to bet?”
The blonde nods, “I do. Ten pounds.”
“And a butter beer.”
Marlene scowls, “fine.”
They shake hands.
“You’re on.”
-
He sneaks around your home, making sure no one can see him. You shake your head. "Nice try, Sirius."
"What?" He pouts, following you after you brush him away from you.
"Don't push me away. I know you love me." He flutters his lashes as if that will further prove his case.
"I would love some peace and quiet. Besides, shouldn't you be checking on Remus right now? It's almost his time."
He sighs, "yeah. I just... wanted to see you before."
"Well, you did and now it's time to say goodbye."
"Fine, fine," he lets out a deep sigh, as if you've done something to him. "Promise me one thing?"
You stare into his eyes.
“You’ll tell me if you’ve been seeing things when I get back.”
You nod, gulping because you know what’s going to happen before then.
The corner of his lips curls upwards, thinking about being alone with you and hopefully asking you something he should have had a long time ago. "I'll be off now, little miss “life of the party”. I'll see you later?"
You rest your hands against the counter, preventing yourself from falling. You nod, "of course, Pads."
He smirks, shaking his head to rid him of his thoughts although he’s always fond when you call him by his nickname. "Alright, I'm off."
"Bye," you whisper, listening to his motorbike get farther from your home. You groan, raising one hand to your head. It's worse.
'The whispers get louder when the ticking stops.'
You want to forget it, but you can't.
His screams haunt you; you can't see his face, you don’t know who it is but it's more than enough to ruin your sleep, invading your mind at the most inconvenient times.
Your family's large grandfather clock chimes.
Nothing's going to work now, you know it. You don't know why you’re going in here but it’s the one place you believe to be in your best interest to reside in during this time.
You grab your wand from your boot and wave it.
The bookshelf moves out of the way.
A heavy breath escapes you.
No one but you know of your meek at home potions room. It's better this way, none of them will ask any questions or throw themselves into research.
By the time your clock chimes again, James and Lily will be the next future couple followed by a sweet little baby boy who will help carry on their family line.
Remus will be trying to finish his potion for the upcoming full moon.
Sirius will be the last of his siblings but not of his family's pureblood status.
And Peter-
“Come out tonight. Come out tonight,” you mutter, closing your eyes for a moment, waiting. "You found me."
"I never wanted this to happen."
"If you didn't want it to happen, you wouldn't have joined him. You wouldn’t have cowered into his grasp because you think he’s getting stronger."
"I- I'm sorry."
"Are you? Because I think you don’t have the time to be sorry. Or are you just saying that because of the bloodroot poison you put in my drink last week?"
Peter pauses in the doorway. "When did you know?"
"It's obvious when somethings not right with your body and you're stupid to think I wouldn't notice."
"You really want to fight with the person who could kill you?"
"You already have."
"It wasn't my choice."
"You didn't know whether you should have stayed on this side and when they found you, you chose to put that damned mark on your arm. You made a decision long ago. I'm just," you hold your breath, finding it hard to take a simple breath now. "Wondering what made you change?"
"Nothing," he mumbles.
"That's such a lie and you know it!"
His head snaps in your direction. "Everyone made me this way!"
You struggle to gulp down the saliva that filled your mouth.
"I was tired of being the joke of it all," he sniffs.
You don't know whether to feel bad for him or help him.
"I wanted the jokes to stop. I thought they would when we grew up, but they barely did."
"What jokes?" You whisper, now losing your voice.
"It doesn't matter now, what's done is done."
"Soon to be done. You're here to report to him that I'm dead, right?"
"N- no."
"You're distracting me, waiting until the end."
"Stop it."
"I hope you feel better."
"Better?"
"Thinking you chose the right side-" You take a step closer towards the table, your hand reaching out for it until you lose your balance and begin tumbling forward.
Peter reaches for you and holds you.
This is the last time he'll ever see you. And it hits him, what he's done to his friend.
There are no changing things now.
He adjusts you, cradling you in his arms as he sits behind you; the way a friend should comfort another one in need.
"Are you happy?"
He glances at you from the corner of his eye, staring at your side profile. "What?"
There's no more fight left in you and there's one thing you want someone to know, your last fighting words were something that will haunt your murderer. "Knowing you chose the wrong side."
"I-"
You close your eyes, not wanting your last sight to be of the secret you kept from your friends.
The grandfather clocks chimes once more and the whispers of his mind fill the silence.
Peter throws his head back, tears trickling down the sides of his face.
Nothing will ever be the same and no one will ever know what he's done.
Not until the end of the first war.
He carefully moves away from you and places you against the desk making it look as if you were sitting against the desk when you pass.
He kept it quiet of how you passed until the night he purposefully let Sirius take the blame for everything.
No one was able to truly move on after, most of all he and-
“She called herself the “life of the party” forever making a fool of herself,” he chuckles to himself.
"Pads, are you telling Harry the same story?"
The man in question turned around with his precious godson bundled in his arms. "No."
"Why lie when we all know it, Sirius?" Lily asks, holding her son's bottle as she tries to take the boy from him. "It's time for his bottle, Sirius."
"I can do it."
"No."
"Come on," he whines, with his bottom lip quivering.
It takes her back to every time when he would beg for your attention. She purses her lips, adjusting Harry in her arms. "It's almost nap time."
"Fine. James, sleep fort?"
"Of course, how else does one take a nap?"
She shakes her head at the two, knowing you would have something to say about it. "James."
"Coming, dear."
"I'll be here while you go help the man of the house."
"Hey."
Sirius raises his arms, "I'm kidding. I'm kidding."
He's left alone with his thoughts, something that's become more dangerous than before.
He thinks back to the story he was telling his godson, which was the night before your guys' seventh year when you decided to do some digging and found the bottle of fire whisky he had hidden, saving for a special occasion and ended up giving yourself a nickname.
You were so, so... drunk.
-
You smile and raise your hands, not at all careful to hide the bottle of fire whiskey. “It's time to be the life of the party.”
Everyone was confused as to why you did this, why you’d lost yourself.
"Someone needs to get her down from that table before she trips and breaks something," Lily hisses.
"We can use magic to heal her."
"Now is not the time to sass me, Sirius."
"Uh- nope, that one was me," Remus raises his hands.
"Someone please, help me get her down."
The three boys take a step forward at the same time.
"Come on, darling. It's time to come down."
You pout, holding the bottle close to your chest. "I don't wanna."
James snorts. "Can it, Prongs."
"I didn't say anything, Padfoot."
"Boys, please. Let's just get close to the table and then Pads can try and ease her down while we help?" The werewolf adds.
"Siri, come up and join me."
"Join you?"
"Become the life of the party with me."
“Sweetheart, I already am.” He holds his hand out for you to take. “Come and party with me down here.”
“No,” you tell him.
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Prongs, Moony,” he jerks his head to the side. “Over here.”
They follow, leaving the red head to deal with you.
“Alright, boys. Moons, you grab the bottle while Prongs my boy,” he smacks the bespectacled boy’s shoulder. “You distract, pull her in with that odd charm that drew your rosy, red head in.”
“I feel like I should be offended.”
Sirius raises a brow, “are you?”
“No.”
“Then you’re fine. Ready boys. On three.”
“Please don’t try to use sports analogies,” Remus interrupts.
“Rude.”
“Hey,” James calls out for you. “Look at me.”
This gives Remus enough time to remove the bottle from your hands and for Sirius to pull you down.
“What made you want to get up on a table?” He asked, holding you in his arms.
“I wanted to get away.”
He glances up, knowing you probably don’t want the others to hear. “Get away from what?”
“The images in my mind.”
“Do you-”
“She needs to have something other than that damned whiskey in her system. Bring her over to the couch,” Lily tells him.
-
He never knew what you saw before that night and didn’t ask when you didn’t remember anything that happened.
This was one of the first few sights that haunted his mind, followed by his best friend and his wife a year after.
That’s why when he saw you for the first time, he was going through so many emotions.
His voice calling out to you wasn’t out of the norm but seeing him when you turned around after the light taps on your shoulder was certainly a surprise.
Your eyes widen at the sight of him. “Sirius?”
He throws himself forward, almost squeezing you with his might. “It’s been too long, darling.”
Your hands shake as you fist handfuls of his shirt tightly, wrinkling his shirt in the process. “I- you,” you push him back. “You shouldn’t be here. You- you- Sirius you can’t be here,” you whisper.
“You shouldn’t be either but here we are. Just focus on this.” He cups your cheek.
“What?”
His thumb brushes across your cheek. “We’re together again.”
“You should be out there, living your life and- and teaching Harry so much more.”
“I am right where I need to be.” He smiles at you, staring into your eyes. “I’m back with you.”
You gulp, “you’re still an idiot.”
“No, I’m Sirius.”
You shake your head and pull him in for another hug… until an echoing voice causes you to furrow your brows.
“Pads! Pads!”
“Oh no,” you mumble.
“What?”
“Pads turn your stupid head around.”
“Who’s calling me stupid?”
You’re happy you let go of him when you did otherwise, you’d be on the ground with the two idiots you find yourself lucky enough to call friends.
“I didn’t want to interrupt the two of you.”
“I know,” you assure Lily. “It’s okay. I’m just happy to see you guys again.”
She wraps an arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer. “Me too.”
“Don’t forget about us,” Marlene calls out.
You two spin around, finding her and Dorcas running towards you guys.
“Took him long enough.”
“Marlene,” you hiss.
“What? I can’t pretend like you haven’t been depressed since that night. Everyone missed you and then when the first war came and we came here, you were so relieved that he wasn’t here but longing for him to come to you and you know it. You can’t hide it.”
You roll your eyes.
“So, you did miss me?” He says, staring up at you with a stargazed look in his eyes.
You turn away, avoiding his gaze. “No.”
“Someone’s lying, and it isn’t Sirius,” he says, attempting to egg you on.
“Come on, girls.”
“Wait- no.” He chases after you.
-
All of you stop, staring around the cemetery.
“What do we do now?”
“We wander around in true spirit fashion.”
“I vote we leave James behind,” you say, raising your hand.
“I second that vote,” Lily and Marlene add.
“Lily pad,” James gasps.
“Dorcas, come on. Don’t do this to me.”
“I’m with the side that doesn’t whine and complain.”
“But I’m nothing without whining and complaining. I was the only male here till Pads decided to join us.”
“I can see why they didn’t want you around.”
“Pads! I’m offended now!”
“Oh, well.” Sirius shrugs.
“You two haven’t changed a bit,” you comment. “It’s nice. I’ve missed seeing all of us being like this.”
“Like what?” Lily asks.
“Being young, not worried about a war coming our way.”
“I think we can all agree on that.”
“Did you all hear Moons has begun to pursue Tonks?” Sirius says.
“No."
"No way.”
-
You lead the others towards Diagon’s Alley, feeling a butter beer kind of night is something you all need.
“Don’t give her any fire whiskey. Otherwise, her “life of the party” personality will come out.” Marlene teases.
“That was one time,” you defend yourself.
“Lies,” Dorcas says, coughing into her hand.
“You all suck.” You pout.
Sirius leans in, “how’s it feel?”
“Don’t be like that, Sirius.”
“What? So, Sirius? I can’t, that’s who I am.”
“I hate you.”
“You love me.”
You stare into his eyes. ‘I missed you more than anything, Siri.’
“I do.”
His smile widens, “I knew it.”
You close your eyes, wanting this to fill the blocks you made in your memory.
Everyone needs a little happy scene they can think back to.
Jason Scott x Reader
RANGER WHAT?
PT. 1.
Warning : Fightinggg
WC; 3,5k
#TALKISSA; This part two of 'Ranger What'!
Jason explain it to you all the parts and every detail. That Jason and his friends are the Power Rangers, heroes of Angel Grove— well, your brain can still accept it. But not when he started mentioning that you were the next Ranger, the Lost Ranger, the White Ranger with their instinct abilities, and other nonsensical things.
You sat on a chair in the empty room, Jason sat next to you,
"...And we purposely arranged the tour to come to this museum, because we just found out that our last coin was here, Y/N. And it called you, didn't it? That means you are-"
"A Ranger, yes I know." You replied, cutting him off, still trying to digest what he said.
Your gaze was locked on the floor, Jason said being a Ranger required great sacrifice, even if you guys had to die you had to be ready- but you couldn't. Never will.
"Jason." You turned to him, "I have a family, Jeremy is not old enough to be able to take care of my father who is getting older, if I do this and what if I die? What if I fall? I'm not a soldier. I'm just a girl-"
"Hey, hey."
You stop what you're talking about,
"I won't let that happen. We won't let that happen."
He held your hand, holding it tightly, "We take care, we protect each other because that is our principle."
You controlled your breath, "I can't. I still can't."
"The coin chose you, Y/N. It has to be you. Somehow, the coin believes that you are the right choice for it." Kimberly said which made you looking at her.
You could feel Jason releasing his grip, "How about we get reacquainted first?"
"Y/N. I'm Jason Scott, The Red Ranger."
"Kimberly Hart. Kim, The Pink Ranger."
"Billy Cranston. The Blue Ranger."
"Zack Taylor, The Black Ranger."
"Trini Kwan. The Yellow Ranger."
You look at the girl named Trini, she looked petite and very beautiful, she looked like she had Latin blood.
"I love yellow." You said while smiling slightly looking at her, she smiled, "Thank you."
"Your turn, Y/N." Jason said.
You nodded and looked at them all, "Y/N Y/L/N."
They all seemed to be waiting for you to say what color Ranger you got, you smiled awkwardly and shook your head, "No. That's not gonna happen and I won't say it."
"You're still in denial, I get it, Y/N. But the coin chose you. There's nothing we can do about that, and we can't just change it." Trini said walking towards you.
You took a breath.
And here you are, trying to accept the fact that you were one of them, the heroes of Angel Grove.
You and the others are walking towards a mine that is still under construction.
Trini and Kim were seen early in front, Billy and Zack chatted and joked, you walked alone behind. Your mind is not in sync with your body, as if someone is taking over your body.
You felt your feet slipping, until finally a hand grabbed yours,
You widened your eyes with what just happened, you could have died.
"Careful, White." Jason said smiling, you faked a smile, "Yeah, thank you, Red." He chuckled at your reply.
He matched his footsteps with yours, "Jason,"
He cleared his throat, you opened your mouth, "The huge sacrifice that a ranger requires... Have you ever done it? I mean- on the verge of death and so on?"
He smiled, "No. You know, the last time Angel Grove was under siege by evil—like huge gold-plated monsters was a few months ago, so that's when me and the others were really fighting for our lives."
You nodded and took a breath, "Hey," he said which made you look at him, "I know maybe you're nervous, feel weird, scared, and so on, believe me, I was like that too when I first experienced it. But, Y /N, everything will be fine. We'll just take you to Zordon and you'll take a little training."
You nod again,
"Guys, we have reached the edge of the cliff. Do you want to jump first or jump straight into the water?"
You heard Zack screaming. Slowly you advanced your steps— and saw how high it was to reach the surface of the water. You didn't know the Angel Grove mine had this.
"Forget it, I'll go straight into the water." Zack said, he looked at you and waved his hand, "See you, odd girl."
He immediately dropped to the surface there, you swallowed your thirst, Billy followed Zack, Trini grabbed your shoulder before she caught up with Billy and Zack, Kim approached you, "Don't worry, we won't die." She smiled and jumped.
You just stay silent, it was just you and Jason left up there. You looked at Jason who smiled at you, “Jump together?”
"I would love to do that."
Jason took your hand to hold it, "Ready?" You nodded.
You can't explain the situation, but when you jump you scream as loud as you can and it feels like you're in the air for a long time, like you're moving in slow motion, you know?
Once you reach the surface of the air, you close your nose to not let air in.
You floated in the air and saw Zack, Kim, Trini, Billy, and Jason looking at you. You rubbed your face so the air on your face wouldn't interfere with your vision, feeling strange that they were all staring at you, you let out a voice, "What?"
"You are the brightest." Billy said.
You were confused, but after seeing their bodies glow according to the color they had, you looked at your own body which was surrounded by white light. You let out a smile, happy to see the radiation of the light you had.
"Okay. Without further ado, let's go to Zordon?" Kim said a little hesitantly.
You nod, they start to dive back down, you follow them, and suddenly in your blurred vision in the water you see them slowly disappear as they touch the reflection of the water. Only yourself is left in the water, you are out of breath, for now you won't ask too many questions, you follow them.
Touch the reflection and everything is upside down, you fall due to gravity. Luckily you didn't fall right to the bottom of the rock, you groaned and then realized you were on top of someone, you widened your eyes when you realized you were on top of Jason, your hair was still wet, dripping onto Jason's shirt.
"Hello there," he said with a sly smile, you stiffened and immediately smiled awkwardly, maybe you could say you were a little comfortable with that position...?
You heard Billy clear his throat, you immediately got up and stood up straight, "Sorry,"
"No problem." Jason smiled back, he also aroused himself like you.
You shook the dirt off your clothes, that's when you realized that you were in a cave.
"Come on," said Trini.
You follow them, and are amazed by what you see, a large ship hiding in the cave. Long story short, they take you on the ship,
"Zordon! Zordon! Zordon! She's here! The white ranger is here!"
You hear a shrill voice shout. That's when you see robot prototypes walking around. You were so confused that you put on your stupid face, you heard Jason chuckle, “Come here.”
You follow Jason, "That's Alpha 5. Weird I know, but can we say he's like our mentor's assistant?"
You nod.
You are taken to a room that could be said to be the heart of this ship,
"Y/N Y/L/N. White ranger. Welcome back."
You were speechless... What really spoke to you was just a face, "Oh my fucking god." you whispered.
You heard the face chuckle, "I know it's weird, as do the rest of your friends when they set foot here. And I'm so glad our missing Ranger is back. It was nice meeting you, Y/N."
You smiled awkwardly, "Nice to meet you too, Zordon?" Your tone sounds unsure.
"I'm sure Jason has explained everything to you?" Zordon asked, you nodded, “Then today we will try to get you to morph into your costume, understand?” You nodded your head a second time.
"And how?"
You are taken to another cave on the ship, but Zordon's voice can still be heard.
"Actually, our previous enemy has fallen... And I'm not sure I would use a hologram of our old enemy. So, Y/N, you will fight your friend." Alpha 5 said, at first you were confused, “What?”
Until you see the 5 Angel Grove heroes in their costumes, you chuckle in disbelief, "I won't fight them in those costumes, right?" You looked at Alpha 5, he didn't say anything back, "I wish you a good luck, Y/N."
You looked back at those who were really ready to fight you, "Great. I'm fucking dying."
You prepare your moves, you actually don't know how to actually fight, it's only because you often watch several movies that you know some of the moves you have to use when fighting.
The blue one stepped forward— Billy came forward to fight you, his movements were very fast, he threw a punch but you quickly dodged and kicked him, your legs were in pain from the attack of the silver plated costume, "Damn it!"
Not long after, Trini and Kimberly came forward, Trini managed to land a punch on your face while Kim aimed for your stomach, you felt cramps all over your body, you tried to fight it, slowly you twisted your leg so that Trini suddenly fell, when Kim's attention was distracted by Trini, you punched her in the face which was visible through her mask.
You felt blood flowing from your nose, you saw Zack who was advancing his steps, you immediately wiped your blood, he pushed you until you were cornered on the rocks of the cave, you hit his back using your elbow, you thought you were starting to get used to the presence of this coin on you. You feel.. Stronger.
You kicked Zack's genitals with your knee, cliche but successful enough to send Zack sprawling on the floor. You immediately chuckled at him.
No sooner had you seen Jason standing side by side with Kim, as if they were ready to fight you, again, than you groaned, “Ugh.”
Kim goes forward and throws all the punches she can, you grab her hand and twist it so she groans, you immobilize her on the surface and push her far away.
You looked at Jason who was taking off his mask, he smiled, "You're getting used to it, aren't you?"
You smiled and he put his mask back on, "Take it easy on me, Red." You said before your fight started.
Your fight with Jason didn't require what you went through with all of them, he didn't hesitate to throw punches, kicks and whatever he had to paralyze you. You threw your fists, but he grabbed your hands and lifted you onto his shoulders then pushed you back, making you groan, you took the opportunity to wrap your legs around his neck.
"Sorry." You said before hitting him on the head again with your elbow, making him lose his balance and the two of you just fell.
"It's so tense here!" shouted Alpha 5.
As you fell together, Jason and you looked at each other before you were completely pressed against him, he was on top of you, holding your hand with both of his. Your breathing is irregular, you try to control your breath.
He took off his mask and showed a sly smile, "Am I 'take it easy on you', White?"
You smiled, “Sure you are.”
You heard a lot of fake coughs, as did Jason, you immediately stood up, you were amazed to see that their costumes had completely changed to how they were before.
You sigh, "So what? I don't see me 'morphing'?"
Trini looked at Kim, then Kim looked at you, "If this doesn't work, then we'll do something else."
"Oh, please, don't fight anymore. My body hurts so bad." You whined.
Jason chuckled, "No, we won't. Come on."
You follow them, they take you to the edge of the mine which is not far from Zack's residence, he said. You sat around the campfire, you sat between Zack and Jason.
You took off your leather jacket to reveal yourself wearing only a white tank top, you looked behind your shoulder which had many wounds, you thought that during the fight you accidentally rubbed against a rock.
"So what are we going to do? I don't think I have much time because my dad will be worried and I really need to treat this." Your words ended by pointing to several wounds on your face.
Zack chuckled, "You pretty much beat us there, Y/N. I mean... You're cool because you can fight us in costume."
You smiled, "Thank you. And I'm sorry for kicking your dick."
Zack was seen feeling embarrassed while the others laughed. You brought out your sly smile.
“Did you learn martial arts, Y/N?” Trini asked, you shook your head, “I watched a lot of movies, plus this coin's ability, I think I became more… I don't know, stronger?”
Trini smiled and nodded.
“So, the first thing we do when we can't change is open up to each other, Y/N.” Kim said.
You nod your head, “Okay, then my assignment is open to you all?” You looked at everything slowly, until your gaze stopped on Jason who nodded.
You don't mind sharing your story, "Okay.. I'm Y/N Y/L/N, a new kid from a town far from here. I live with my dad and my little brother, Jeremy, who really likes you guys. I mean, really. Like a maniac. And you have a lot of that maniacs, Scott." You said looking at Jason, the others groaned making Jason chuckle shyly.
You smile.
"Where is your mom?" Billy asked, your smile faded, things got quiet, Zack slapped Billy lightly on the chest, "Dude."
Billy, who looked confused, showed his flat face, "What?"
You smiled, "It's okay. Actually I don't know. And I never want to know. She was rude. To me, to my father, and before she managed to touch Jere, my father decided to move first leaving my mother. And I'm glad he did it."
"She was not only physically abusive... But mentally, she often cursed me with obscene words, such as being called a odd girl, a worthless girl, kind of a bitch, and other insults."
Recalling all those bad memories made you stare straight at the fire and felt warm drops of water fall from your face, you felt someone gently caress your back—and without you looking you knew it was Jason.
You blinked a few times and tried to smile, “That's all I think?”
“I'm sorry, Y/N.” Kim said followed by nods from Billy and Trini.
You smiled, "No need, Kim. But thanks."
"Okay... And as I remember the last time we morphing there must have been a sacrifice?" Zack asked.
You looked at him quickly, your whole face tensing up, Zack chuckled, "No, I'm kidding. It's just because of that creepy witch, Rita."
You breathed a sigh of relief.
At first Zack chuckled, but his smile disappeared again when he looked at you, again and again you were confused, they all looked at you, "What?"
You looked at Jason who smiled in awe, "You did morphing."
You look at your own body in a white costume... You did it! Whatever the term, you morphed!
But it's strange that you don't wear a mask like them...
“But why isn't she wearing a mask?” Billy asks which one is confusing you.
“Take her to Zordon, perhaps?” Trini suggested.
"Good job, Y/N. I didn't expect you to change so quickly." Zordon said to you.
"Thank you. But do you have a reason why I'm not wearing a mask?"
"Oh! Of course. Don't panic, the White Ranger doesn't have a mask because its ability is specifically for physical contact. If you want to use your contact ability, you need eyes to see clearly without a mask."
Ah, that makes sense.
"So cool! Can I be white?!" Zack exclaimed while laughing.
"No." Zordon answered, making you laugh a little.
"However, Y/N. Promise me, all of us, to use your abilities only for good, only for Ranger purposes, and no evil."
You nodded your head, “Thank you for entrusting this coin to me.”
You could see Zordon smile, "You're the one who deserves it, kid. Wear it well."
After that you separated from Trini, Kim, Zack, and Billy. Jason offered to take you home since he was the one who caused all this. If I'm not mistaken, you only got home at 2 in the morning.
The streets were very quiet, Angel Grove was very quiet, only Jason and your footsteps could be heard.
Until you were in front of your house, "This is where we have to part ways." You said with a smile.
He smiled, "It's a shame I still want to spend time with you."
You chuckled, "Thank you. Thank you for promising me and believing in me, Jace."
He chuckled, "Jace? I love that. And also, anytime, Y/N. And everything I said on the bus, it's true, I watch you a lot in class."
You stepped forward and kissed his cheek, then stood up again, “Goodnight.”
Before you heard his answer, you went straight into your house, usually your father would turn on the lights if you weren't home yet, but not this time. Something is wrong and you don't like it.
You open your door... The door is unlocked.
You felt something was wrong, because you felt Jason was still there you screamed his name, "Jason!"
You see your house is completely a mess. Your family photo frame is broken, scattered on the floor,
"What's wrong?!" Jason exclaimed.
You didn't answer him, your breath was already short, you were afraid, you were afraid that the consequences you got as a Ranger would be passed on to your father, and what was worse... to Jeremy.
You took your steps towards Jeremy's room, "Jere?!" Your voice trembled, but there was no answer at all.
The room is no less messy than your living room... What actually happened?
You sobbed, you put one hand on your waist while the other hand you held tightly to your hair, Jason noticed that and held your hand gently so as not to hurt yourself, "Hey. Hey, breathe."
You cried uncontrollably, "What happened? Where are my father and brother, Jason?"
He pulled you into his arms, gently stroking your back, "Sshh. It's okay. We'll figure it out together, okay?"
You cried into his chest. Now the house that was once filled with your father's laughter and Jeremy's jokes has dimmed, even the light that illuminated your own father no longer appears in the house. Where are they? What really happened? You don't like this.
Author Note : I apologize profusely if there are any typos because I originally wrote this from a first point of view... Hihi. I really hope you enjoy it, issea! and I'm really bad at writing fights...
I'm so sorry that it's taken me what feels like years to catch up with all the games, but this beautiful Tuesday practically invites me to do it now. So get ready for a hail of musegames (below the cut). :-) + i'm tagging everyone else below all games, so if you already did them, i am sorry, just too lazy to look everything up.
choose a song for each letter of your url: tagged by @never-be-tamed
Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol ; How you reming me - Nickelback ; A little too much - Shawn Mendes ; Ocean eyes - Billie Eilish ; Too much to ask - Niall Horan ; It ain't me - Kygo, Selena Gomez ; Complicated - Olivia O'Brien ; Messier - Tate McRae ; Vermissen - Juju, Henning May ; Sorry - Halsey ; End of an era - Dua Lipa
what negative emotion are you? tagged by @never-be-tamed the feeling is overwhelmed
babe :((,, it's gonna be okay, i know you try really hard to please people and live up to your own expectations, but please take a break. i know what it's like to work non stop and burnout is not pretty. sometimes it's okay to admit that you still have work, and take a break anyway. you're human and you can't keep running on energy drinks and self deprecating humor. believe me, i have been there. maybe stop staring at your phone screen and take a nap. trust me on this one. put on some noise canceling headphones, grab a glass of water with a couple of ice cubes, and take a nap or something. watch your favorite tv show. i love you and i know you can get through this, okay?
what are your hands covered in? tagged by @shevampyre & @zeitrcisender my hands are covered in stars
They burn, don’t they? And yet you still hold on. The flesh on your palms peels back, your fingers burning down to bone. Your tissues char and break away, your blood boiling inside your hands. The heat rushes up to kiss your face and chest, a sunburn in the dark and yet–yet you hold on, because they are beautiful. It hurts, but you see only the beauty of the moment, none of the pain. All of that suffering is worth a few moments of brilliance, isn’t it?
what time of the day are you? tagged by @never-be-tamed & @zeitrcisender and, what a surprise, i am midnight
you shouldn't be here, yet here you are. lost in an inked landscape. yet knowing exactly where you belong, where you should be. the sounds of god knows what lurking beyond the veil of the tree lines, they beckoning you, welcoming you.
it's the end of the world; what have you done? tagged by @never-be-tamed answer: the reluctant/accidental harbinger
You never wanted this to happen. You were scared, and you just wanted it all to stop hurting. Now... everything's stopped. (Stop, stop, STOP, isn't that what they screamed at you?) You're never going to see them again. You killed them all. Oh God, you killed them all. (Monster.)
find your totem animal tagged by @never-be-tamed my totem is the doplhin
balanced in harmony, the dolphin is your totem. you are a kind and gentle soul, but don’t let that fool those who mean to harm you. you have deep inner strength that can be harnessed when needed. you likely lead with your intuition rather than over thinking things, and the dolphin can serve as a reminder to trust your gut intelligence. most of all, the dolphin reminds you to bring playfulness into your life and live peacefully with all of those around you.
answer worst quiz questions and get a psychoanalysis but you dont know what the psychoanalysis is based off tagged by @never-be-tamed the answer (i honestly feel pointed out): heavy weight yarn that breaks when you try to pull it
you are beautiful. everything about you looks it. soft, colorful, with the potential of making so many things. but inside? you crack. easily, these days too. take a break. soon, it may be too late.
what greek god/goddess are you? tagged by @never-be-tamed the answer is artemis
artemis, the goddess of hunting, is another favourite, especially among young women. you love animals (perhaps more than people), and probably want to be left alone most of the time, though you do have a small group you go everywhere with. everyone likes you, though they don't know much about you.
That was incredibly time-consuming, but thanks for the links (mainly to alex) and now you can see what you've already done and what you haven't (have fun): @gvilty-c0nscience ; @divine-felonies ; @vcnenum ; @mvdness ; @shevampyre ; @lartist-e ; @betterstay-dead ; @crownedembers ; @modacriminal ; @hanyoyue ; @trauma-report ; @crimelrd & anyone who wants to get their muse a little bit better :)
#⠀⠀⠀ ❝chaos is playful — games.#alex we may need to talk about you having a addiction to games; you're welcome at my office from 9 to 5#some of these answers are fucking relatable it's almost scary
