SHEFF SUNDAY PART 1

Here we go again for another trip to see the wonderful world of british wrestling and in particular show 49 of the #80showyear which took me to Sheffield for Southside Wrestling and their double header which are usually quite good.

It was the short 45 minute journey over to Sheffield at a reasonable 12 Noon of arriving, so it meant we had at least 45 minutes before the first show to grab a pint in The Devonshire Cat, now usually i moan about drink prices but i had a very nice drink here - TOOL Raspberry Gose which is a sour/fruity combination which even though a bit sharp on the tonsils was worth the £6 a pint i paid for it. I would recommend going to The Devonshire Cat if you fancy a great selection of beer, good food (not tried but it smelt nice) and also the chance to piss in beer barrell urinal 🖒.

Doors opened about 15 minutes late for show 1 at The Corporation which is basically a warehouse with one of the worst toilets in the UK - Think TrainSpotting!.

Show 1 seemed very thrown together due to wrestlers from Scotland not being able to travel, so very much a Pick “N” Mix going on.

Things that were good on Show 1 were the Main Event 6 way involving Bubblegum, Chris Tyler, El Ligero, Joseph Connors, Chris Ridgeway, Robbie X and one other whos name i have forgot. This was like the 1st time i saw a 6 way with Chris Tyler involved - lots of spots, lots of fun and some very good stuff, Connors he is doing a gimmick where he hasnt got over his long title reign and is carrying a toybelt and coming out to We Are The Champions by Queen - I think Connors is showing very much a self-deprecating side and is enjoyable in this role, i know one of my group (Shauna) doesnt think much of him - louds boos emanated around the Corp.

Mia Yim vs Number 1 AHHHH Damien Dunne was a good intergender match, Dunne i think is very good in his main role as the leader of a faction as shown with his Anti Fun Police Stuff and now in GBH in Southside. Was a shame about the miscued interference from the rest of GBH who ballsed it up to allow Mia to win, but generally a good match.

Flip Gordon vs Ophidian i thought was joint best match of the day and a change to see Ophidian working a longer match compared to his 6 way matches in PCW where he gets a bit lost in the shuffle apart from the hypnotism. Gordon as his name says does lots of Flips, but also have a decent grpund game plus he has a striking resemblance to South African Darts player - Devon Petersen (google it). One spot in the match included a Flip Off between Flip and Ophidian which ended with referee Joel Allen doing a forward roll - basically saying “GET ON WITH IT LADS”!.

The not so brilliant stuff :-

Flash Morgan Webster vs Kip Sabian just didnt click for me. Dont get me wrong I think Flash has impressed since his comeback and Kip had improved since my opening view of him in Manchester, but this match wasnt very good at all. As much as Flash tried, his dance partner Kip was offbeat here. Not a good start sadly, Chris Linay couldnt get to the bar quick enough.

Toni Storm vs Ruby Summers was a step down from Toni’s usual high quality stuff. I think it struggled from not knowing who was the baddie, i think Ruby is competent when with the right opponent bit lacks the charisma to step up to the next ĺevel where the likes of Storm/KLR/Viper are.

Big Grizzly vs Mikey Riot was what it was - a showcase for Big Grizzly who i was very impressed with, as he looks very intimidating and you woult argue with him - proper good big lad. His opponent was a replacement and as i found out was once number 3 in a Shitarse 50 list and you could tell.why.

Overall an average show with 3 or 4 good things but nothing special. Trust me the evening show blew it out of the water.

Beer and other drinks - £4.90 for Erdinger which was warm and the taste of sweaty socks just rank. Then the saviour of the day HOOLA HOOCH MANGO AND PASSION FRUIT for 3 quid a can - This was amazing on the mouth 😍😍😍😍😍
