“Bucky is dating my sister!” Sam announced in a huff as he walked into the room.

Sharon blinked, looking up from the agents’ reports. Not much could startle Sharon, with her being trained to be at stand by at all the time, but she was surprised. Sam didn’t usually make dramatic declarations like that. “What?” she asked, turning her attention from the interesting flies to the much more important Sam.

“Bucky is dating my sister!” Sam repeated, equally dramatic but a bit more irritated.

Sharon rolled her eyes. “No, I heard you,” Sharon clarified, “I was just asking; so what?”

Sam glared at her, seeming annoyed at Sharon’s teasing. “So, Bucky is dating my sister,” he said slowly, emphasizing each word. 

Before Sharon could reply snarkily, Sam dropped down next to her, his head in her lap. Sharon smiled down at him fondly and ran her hands up and down his cheeks. Sam sighed, relaxing. “What’s the problem with Bucky dating your sister?” Sharon asked, patiently this time.  

Sam leaned into her touch and said, almost petulant, “that she is Sarah, my sweet and amazing sister, and he is Bucky.”

Sharon huffed out a soft laugh at the way Sam had said their teammate’s name, “isn’t Bucky your best friend?”

“No,” Sam denied sharply and Sharon forgoes shaking her head at him. The two of them were best friends, no matter how much they’d deny it. “But for argument sake, if he were -” Sharon resisted a teasing smirk and instead nodded for him to continue, “- then how could he do this? It’s a total violation of the bro code.”

“If you believe in the bro code, then I think we’re going to have to break up,” Sharon joked, rubbing at his scalp.

“Sharon,” Sam would deny it later, but he whined, “What do I doooo?”

“Nothing,” Sharon answered.

Sam squinted at her, “nothing?”

“Yeah. It’s their choice.”

“But...” Sam hesitated, “what if he breaks her heart?”

“Then I’ll hunt him down and kill him,” Sharon promised. Sharon liked Sarah - she didn’t want to see her hurt either.

Sam smiled, leaning up to kiss her shortly. Sharon pecked him back, and then they leaned their foreheads against one another, grinning softly. “I should give him a shovel talk just in case,” Sam whispered against her lips and then begun to rise from the couch. 

Sharon pushed him back to sit, “no.”

Sam pouted, “but-”

“Has Bucky given you any reason to distrust him?”

“Well-“

“About this?”

Sam paused. “No,” he admitted.

“Then wait with the shovel talk until their first fight.”

Sam relented, “fine.” He looked to the side at where a picture of Sarah and Sam as kid stood. Sam looked thoughtful all of a sudden, a small crease in his forehead as if he was thinking bad thoughts about the last time his sister was hurting. Sharon knew Sarah and Sam’s father had died when they were young; she wanted to kiss the frown away. “It’s still weird though,” he said quietly. 

“Then you hope they’re not as publicly affectionate as us,” Sharon said and then tilted Sam’s head towards her to continue their kiss.

no one is probably awake for this but i have a sharon/sam idea i want to share!

okay so this originally was supposed to be a winteriron fic but i decided to change it to sharon/sam with background winteriron because of reasons (mainly i just want more sharon & sam content) and it’s basically an au of a playhouse 90 ep called requiem for a heavyweight (which you can watch here if u haven’t seen it—which i really recommend that u guys do bc it’s so good!!). 

but like it’s basically gonna be about sam who was this big boxer that is now at the end of his career (he lost his last fight to a new and younger boxer and his doctor was like dude u gotta stop boxing bc his next fight could possibly blind or even kill him), and sam’s like “what? but boxing is all i know!! i’ve been doing it since i was 18!!” and sam is like scare to do anything new. but eventually sam is like “fine, alright i’ll quit!” 

and so his cut man, bucky, takes him to an employment agency where he meets sharon, the worker who is trying to help sam transition careers. and bitch!! sam??? he’s a smitten fool when he mets and starts talking to sharon. sharon suggests that sam work with kids at like a summer camp. and then they end up going on a cute lil date a few days later and they’re v cute and shy with each other.

but then later sam’s manager, idk who yet—maybe rumlow????, finds out about sam trying to quit boxing and said manager gets mad and convinces sam to try professional wrestling. and then bucky finds out about this and tells sam that said manager has been betting against him in his fights and the only reason manager is so eager for sam to do wrestling is bc manager owes money to the mafia. and then sam gets pissed and ends up leaving (probably to go sulk in his apartment). 

bucky and tony then met up sharon and the three of them talk and at the end of their lil meet up bucky and tony give sharon a train ticket for her to give to sam. later sharon gives the ticket to sam and is like “you should go back home for a bit” and sam’s like “yeah, i’ll probably will. gotta get myself ready to help out with the kids this summer.” and then the two idiots smile at each other, kiss, sam leaves but comes back and finally gets together with sharon and they have the most beautiful wedding, have double dates with bucky and tony, and have the cutest kids!

“So how’d you get into this?”

Twisting around, Sam quirked a brow as he stared up at Sharon, his favorite customer, and grins, “What?”

“Oh shit,” Sharon murmurs softly, face flushing as she ducks her head, left hand coming up to pull on the free lock of hair hanging by her face, while wrapping the right around her waist. “Sorry, I didn’t mean that to come out so rude, Sam.”

Chuckling softly, Sam gives a small shake of his head as he pushes himself up and moves to face her, “Naw, it’s okay. I just didn’t hear you right.”

“Oh. Um, I was just wondering how you got into this?”

“My aunt Kathy,” he grins as he walks them over to a faded photo hanging behind the counter. “She actually own this place before I took over.”

To that anon tbh Sharon I don't think is uniquely unpopular by fandom standards. Maybe by MCU standards but not fandom in gen standards. Or at least its not that weird that she is.

Ship wars and just being bitter that the ship that became canon wasn't your ship and throwing salt at that ship was just always a thing. Especially if the fandom for the non canon ship thought they had a shot of being canon. See any fandom with a love triangle in the story ever.

Now its more the norm to pretend that its something deep. That the other ship is morally repugnant and you aren't just being petty af. When Sharon was the most unpopular it was still kinda the norm to just be openly petty but justifying your saltiness was becoming more the norm. Hence you'd get arguments like Sharon was a no homo and Sharon was abusive. But also just people just actively shitting on her for no reason at all apart from the fact they didnt like her not even trying to justify it.

Which again is nothing all that new. What makes it stand out imo are a few reasons.

1. Social Media being integrated- before the social media spread for fandom ships would be more diverse. There would be communities for specific ships or fiction archives and it was easy to avoid ships you didn't like. Sure if your ship was involved in a major shipping war or people were talking trash about it you could still know but the exposure to the drama wasn't always inevitable. But now if fans of more popular ships occasionally shit on your far less popular ship even if its only like 5 percent of the fans of the more popular ship that outnumbers your entire fandom. So you get drowned out for amount of content and then when anyone looks for content for the unpopular ship they mostly get negativity and its very hard to avoid.

2. MCU being such a huge fandom. Not marvel comic characters specifically the MCU and Steve being kinda a fandom bycycle. There was a good chance if you were in this fandom you had a favorite Steve ship and if you were a MCU fan primarily not a comics fan ( which let's be honest many were during hieght of Sharon drama) then that ship probably wasn't Sharon. I know in general people like to say it was primarily Stucky and Steggy fans throwing shade. But that was mostly because those were two of the biggest ships with Steve. Other Steve shippers did too. It was just that there were just less of them so it seemed like it was just Stucky or Steggy. For a while it was just a thing to shit on Sharon for not just Stucky or Steggy fans but like it was a MCU fandom thing. And the reason for this is-

3. The lack of MCU Sharon and Steve x Sharon fans. There were a few comic Sharon and SteveSharon fans. But not MCU ones because Natasha and Peggy had taken alot of comic Sharons moments and character. It was really common to see arguments like oh I love comic Sharon but fuck MCU Sharon. Why she even exist?

Pretty much all canon ships got hate. But it imo was less because they still had quite a few fans it was less cool to shit on it you got more push back. And it didnt always reflect on the characters. BruceNat was incredibly unpopular but Bruce and Natasha didnt become incredibly unpopular as a result. Sure they had haters but theyd already been established and had fans of their own ( especially Natasha). While others happened early enough and got development so the relationship got fans like PepperTony. There was hate but there was more push back for shitting on them and more people spreading love for them so the negativity wasn't drowning out the good.

But MCU Sharon and MCU SteveSharon could more easily be treated as a universal dislike by the whole fandom. Even people who didnt really care about Steve ships would joke about SteveSharon being shitty. It was just like the thing to do.

This changed when calling out mysogny in fandom became more mainstream. However those 3 reasons especially 1 and 3 remain the same except for characters too not just ships. Its hard to avoid what you dont like in a fandom on websites like Tiktok Tumblr and Twitter ( especially Tiktok) . So if negative opinions of a character are popular it becomes harder to avoid.

And MCU Sharon is still not that popular due to how MCU handling her.

I cant even say its just a ship thing anymore the vitriol continues despite her not being in any ship nor is it indicated she will be with any major character in the future. And still so many people act like they will act like they will break into hives at just the prospect of her with Bucky or Sam.

Its not just a ew girl cooties thing these same people will love the idea of Bucky with Sams sister or Yelena or someone in the Dora Milaje. Sam doesn't even have that many popular ships it basically just Bucky rn but ive seen people who dont even like this ship just see it as a friendship and have no other ships for Sam but want him to have a love interest down the line turn up their noses at SharonSam.

I will say things are definetly better than the post CW era Sharon is less the MCU fandom punching bag though she still doesnt have that much love. However more people are critiquing the handling of her character instead of being frustrated at her existence. So while I do fully believe she more than any other character could become the fandom punching bag again i dont think it will be as bad as it was in the past.

Oh, it will never be as bad as it was in 2016. There was a Sharon RP blog that one day cleared out all the hate she got in her inbox. Absolutely wretched shit was sent to her, and you could feel the exhaustion in her clearing them out. And she posted it to remind everyone that hey, liking a character doesn't equal sending fucking death threats to a person.

But the problem is the shit that the character and the fans AND THE FUCKING ACTRESS got were not only seen by Marvel, they reacted in the worst way possible. They just justified fans' actions. So while it's not the worst it has been, jesus they could have done anything but that in response.

Honestly? If SharonSam or SharonBucky happens, I’m all for it! All of them are badass and have great relationships in the comics that the films failed to explore. And they all deserve love and to be fucking happy, that doesn’t diminish their badassery whatsoever. Again: ITS WHAT THEY DESERVE! And, hey, it’ll piss off the antis, insufferable St/ggy and St/cky shippers, and racists so it’s a win all around in my book lol

Also I was looking at this image again (which has only changed a but from now) and EVERY popular ship (except Reader/Zemo) has Bucky involved but other than SamBucky NONE of them have Sam! Like- no SamSteve or RileySam or even SharonSam made the list but BuckyZemo did?!

Wtf is wrong with this picture?

Answer: A whole fucking lot.

Based on this alone is really just shows that a large majority of fics are Bucky-centric in a fandom for THE FALCON and the winter soldier.

We can have Bucky-centric fics, god knows the trauma of the characters makes for amazing angst. BUT WHAT ABOUT SAM?!?! We finally got his backstory and family. We got him being a goddamn lead and a goddamn boss. Yet somehow the fandom continues to sleep on him.

Note: Sambucky is god tier ship but the fact that there are no other Sam/anyone else ships is pissing me off.

Don’t tell me this isn’t a problem. Both characters were in about the same amounts of movies and Bucky has over 7x more posts than Sam. It’s okay to like Bucky. I like Bucky. But the fandom can’t keep sleeping on Sam. Anthony Mackie puts so much hard work in and deserves the recognition.

Hell, in tfatws Sam probably has more scenes (im pretty sure he does and a huge part of this seems to be him learning how he feels about being Captain America and the legacy behind it) yet he isn’t getting talked about enough.

The thing about getting to know Steve is, it's easy to forget what he is. It's easy to grab a quick bite to eat with him from a hot dog stand or go to a ball game or beat the crap out of each other on the training mat and forget that to the rest of the world, he's more a symbol, an emblem, than he is a man with shitty taste in baseball teams.

Fics aren't representation. If you write Sambucky you aren't more or less woke than if you write SharonSam.

Alot of people pull this if my ship isn't popular its cuz bigotry card and ya sometimes that true. But not always.

Is your ship with a mc and a minor character who barely gets screentime in canon? Well regardless if that ship is canon or not chances are they aren't gonna be big in fanon. It wouldn't be a sign of bigotry if it wasn't popular. It would just be a type of ship that often doesn't attract shippers.

Is your ship between two fleshed out characters who often get their dynamic shown ? Well regardless of if it's canon or not, romantic or platonic, chances are that duo gonna be a popular ship.

Its when they fall into the popular trends and don't get popular , or don't fall into the popular trends but do get popular but don't fall into popular trends you should start sideeyeing ships .

For example like the one anon pointed out T'Challa and M'Baku would normally be popular.

Another example is Hawkeye and Coulson. Its not weird for random ships to get popular in older fandoms as people start to look for new things to explore.

So if Hawkeye x Coulson got popular say...right now for the first time wouldn't be that weird. But the fandom is just starting out? This becoming one of the most popular ships? Not even as a side ship but central focus? Thats not the typical trend. So maybe examine that one more.

That being said anon if you are being defensive from the start because you think SamBucky won't be popular...it is the type of dynamic that would be popular in fandom and already has a growing following from the looks of it and the show hasn't even aired. So....I mean chill.

I saw this post the other day that said we need to stop justifying our ships. We don’t need to keep sitting here and having a list of reasons why it’s okay to ship our ships. And outside of the obvious fucked up shit, this mentality needs to be adopted by people, especially on this site. While I think we should call out the racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic trends in shipping culture, that’s not the same as saying “you have to ship this or else”.
