Kinda Outta Luck || Sharon Carter
Prompts: Day 1 of Sharon Carter Appreciation week: Wanted | On The Run
Warnings: this is a dark villain!Sharon fiction. Trigger warnings for mentions of "suicide", death,"accidental drowning", guns, shooting, murder and being pushed off a height.
She was a hushed whisper.
An unspoken fear.
A myth.
She was known as Agent 13.
She was Sharon Carter.
Nobody knew what she looked like.
She had no witnesses.
So when a pretty blonde offered Agent Garrison a drink at the bar, well, who would refuse?
After two weeks of not showing up for work his body would turn up in the Hudson after what was called "an accidental drowning."
Those who saw the bullet holes knew better, and Fury ordered his top spies to find out who this Agent 13 was and stop them, no matter what.
Maria and Natasha had been keeping a close eye on the news, keeping peeled for unsolved cases that could lead them to the agent.
This had brought them both to the 15th Precinct Station House in Hells Kitchen after a tip off from local PI Jessica Jones.
The chief of police had supposedly thrown himself off of the top floor to his death.
Or so the police officer told them.
"Thank you for speaking with us today" Natasha spoke kindly.
"No problem, if you need anymore help here's my contact, we all just want to find out what happened to Cap, he was a good guy y'know?" The pretty blonde looked solemn.
"We'll be in touch" and with that the agents departed the scene.
It was 6pm when Sharon got a text.
"Hey, do you want to come meet us at The Danvers Motel? We've got a couple of theories but we were just wondering if there was any evidence or fingerprints we haven't got that might lead us the right way, we're in room 6.- Agent Romanova"
She texted a quick on her way back and slid her lucky magnum into her back pocket.
"Can I trust you to keep a secret Officer Carter?" Natasha asked in a hushed tone whilst Maria was out buying coffee.
"Such as?" Her eyes seemed to brim with curiosity.
Natasha took a deep breath,
"We believe this to be the work of a rogue, people call her agent 13."
"What makes you think its a her?"
"Im looking at them right now."
"Your joking right?" Sharon laughed furrowing her eyebrows in mock confusion.
Natasha just stared back at her with a stone cold expression.
"Well here's the thing, if I were a notorious killer who belonged to no agancy and nobody knew who I was, I'd be pretty confident that I could get away with the murders, in fact. I may even offer my help, a rouse, to lead any interferers off my scent and to take care of them if necessary."
Sharon continued to feign shock.
"Maria called the precinct, there is no Officer Carter"
At this point Sharon's shock turned to a sly smirk.
"That's a nice theory, and did you tell your director all of this before me?"
It was Natasha's turn to smirk now.
"Maria's on her way to him now"
"Hm, I just hope she got her brakes fixed before she left" Sharon said with mock concern.
Before Natasha could respond Sharon had fired.
Director Fury made his way over to the Motel where his agents had been staying.
Maria was fighting for her life in a coma with serious head trauma and Nat hadn't checked in.
It was there that the manager informed him that there had been shots heard in room 6.
Suicide,
Or so it seemed.
He asked for any CCTV tapes but unfortunately there had been a freak power cut at the motel and they had lost all there footage.
Nick cradled his surrogate daughter and silently swore revenge.
Agent 13 would pay.
Made for @sharoncarterweek day 1 :)

Single-word Requests: Open
Hello, lovelies! it's been a minute since my requests have been opened up again, and since classes are finished up for me, I thought this could be fun again. However, I wanted to make things a little easier on myself while adding a fun twist. I know similar things have been done, so know that this definitely isn't an entirely original idea.
I found an Inktober list for 2020 that was meant to be one illustration a week and wanted to use it for blurb/drubble/mini Oneshot requests.

Week of January 5th
The Life I’m In by Sharon G. Flake Scholastic Inc
My feet are heavy as stones when I walk up the block wondering why I can’t find my old self.
In The Skin I’m In, readers saw into the life of Maleeka Madison, a teen who suffered from the ridicule she received because of her dark skin color. For decades fans have wanted to know the fate of the bully who made Maleeka’s life miserable, Char.
Now in Sharon Flake’s latest and unflinching novel, The Life I’m In, we follow Charlese Jones, who, with her raw, blistering voice speaks the truths many girls face, offering insight to some of the causes and conditions that make a bully. Turned out of the only home she has known, Char boards a bus to nowhere where she is lured into the dangerous web of human trafficking. Much is revealed behind the complex system of men who take advantage of vulnerable teens in the underbelly of society. While Char might be frightened, she remains strong and determined to bring herself and her fellow victims out of the dark and back into the light, reminding us why compassion is a powerful cure to the ills of the world.
Sharon Flake’s bestselling, Coretta Scott King Award-winning novel The Skin I’m In was a game changer when it was first published more than twenty years ago. It redefined young adult literature by presenting characters, voices, and real-world experiences that had not been fully seen. Now Flake offers readers another timely and radical story of a girl on the brink and how her choices will lead her to either fall, or fly. — Cover image and summary via Goodreads
Happily Ever Afters by Elise Bryant Balzer + Bray
Sixteen-year-old Tessa Johnson has never felt like the protagonist in her own life. She’s rarely seen herself reflected in the pages of the romance novels she loves. The only place she’s a true leading lady is in her own writing—in the swoony love stories she shares only with Caroline, her best friend and #1 devoted reader.
When Tessa is accepted into the creative writing program of a prestigious art school, she’s excited to finally let her stories shine. But when she goes to her first workshop, the words are just…gone. Fortunately, Caroline has a solution: Tessa just needs to find some inspiration in a real-life love story of her own. And she’s ready with a list of romance novel-inspired steps to a happily ever after. Nico, the brooding artist who looks like he walked out of one of Tessa’s stories, is cast as the perfect Prince Charming.
But as Tessa checks each item off Caroline’s list, she gets further and further away from herself. She risks losing everything she cares about—including the surprising bond she develops with sweet Sam, who lives across the street. She’s well on her way to having her own real-life love story, but is it the one she wants, after all?
One of the Good Ones by Maika Moulite and Maritza Moulite Inkyard Press
ISN’T BEING HUMAN ENOUGH? When teen social activist and history buff Kezi Smith is killed under mysterious circumstances after attending a social justice rally, her devastated sister Happi and their family are left reeling in the aftermath. As Kezi becomes another immortalized victim in the fight against police brutality, Happi begins to question the idealized way her sister is remembered. Perfect. Angelic.
One of the good ones.
Even as the phrase rings wrong in her mind–why are only certain people deemed worthy to be missed?–Happi and her sister Genny embark on a journey to honor Kezi in their own way, using an heirloom copy of The Negro Motorist Green Book as their guide. But there’s a twist to Kezi’s story that no one could’ve ever expected–one that will change everything all over again.
Roman and Jewel by Dana L. Davis Inkyard Press
If Romeo and Juliet got the Hamilton treatment…who would play the leads? This vividly funny, honest, and charming romantic novel by Dana L. Davis is the story of a girl who thinks she has what it takes…and the world thinks so, too.
Jerzie Jhames will do anything to land the lead role in Broadway’s hottest new show, Roman and Jewel, a Romeo and Juliet inspired hip-hopera featuring a diverse cast and modern twists on the play. But her hopes are crushed when she learns mega-star Cinny won the lead…and Jerzie is her understudy.
Falling for male lead Zeppelin Reid is a terrible idea–especially once Jerzie learns Cinny wants him for herself. Star-crossed love always ends badly. But when a video of Jerzie and Zepp practicing goes viral and the entire world weighs in on who should play Jewel, Jerzie learns that while the price of fame is high, friendship, family, and love are priceless.
The Awakening of Malcom X by Ilyasah Shabazz & Tiffany D. Jackson Farrar, Straus and Giroux (Byr)
In Charlestown Prison, Malcolm Little struggles with the weight of his past. Plagued by nightmares, Malcolm drifts through days unsure of his future. Slowly, he befriends other prisoners and writes to his family. He reads all the books in the prison library, joins the debate team and the Nation of Islam. Malcolm grapples with race, politics, religion, and justice in the 1940s. And as his time in jail comes to an end, he begins to awaken — emerging from prison more than just Malcolm Little: Now, he is Malcolm X.
Here is an intimate look at Malcolm X’s young adult years. While this book chronologically follows X: A Novel, it can be read as a stand-alone historical novel that invites larger discussions on black power, prison reform, and civil rights.
When You Look Like Us by Pamela N. Harris HarperCollins
When you look like us—brown skin, brown eyes, black braids or fades—people think you’re trouble. No one looks twice at a missing black girl from the projects because she must’ve brought whatever happened to her upon herself. I, Jay Murphy, can admit that, for a minute, I thought my sister, Nicole, got too caught up with her boyfriend—a drug dealer—and his friends.
But she’s been gone too long now.
If I hadn’t hung up on her that night, she’d be spending time with our grandma. If I was a better brother, she’d be finishing senior year instead of being another name on a missing persons list. It’s time to step up and do what the Newport News police department won’t.

Chlorine Sky by Mahogany L. Browne Crown Books for Young Readers
She looks me hard in my eyes & my knees lock into tree trunks My eyes don’t dance like my heartbeat racing They stare straight back hot daggers. I remember things will never be the same. I remember things.

The Meet-Cute Project by Rhiannon Richardson Simon & Schuster
Mia’s friends love rom-coms. Mia hates them. They’re silly, contrived, and not at all realistic. Besides, there are more important things to worry about—like how to handle living with her bridezilla sister, Sam, who’s never appreciated Mia, and surviving junior year juggling every school club offered and acing all of her classes.
So when Mia is tasked with finding a date to her sister’s wedding, her options are practically nonexistent.
Mia’s friends, however, have an idea. It’s a little crazy, a little out there, and a lot inspired by the movies they love that Mia begrudgingly watches too.
Mia just needs a meet-cute.
Concrete Rose (The Hate U Give, #0) by Angie Thomas Balzer + Bray

Life’s not perfect, but with a fly girlfriend and a cousin who always has his back, Mav’s got everything under control.
Until, that is, Maverick finds out he’s a father.
Suddenly he has a baby, Seven, who depends on him for everything. But it’s not so easy to sling dope, finish school, and raise a child. So when he’s offered the chance to go straight, he takes it. In a world where he’s expected to amount to nothing, maybe Mav can prove he’s different.
When King Lord blood runs through your veins, though, you can’t just walk away. Loyalty, revenge, and responsibility threaten to tear Mav apart, especially after the brutal murder of a loved one. He’ll have to figure out for himself what it really means to be a man.
Angel of Greenwood by Randi Pink Feiwel and Friends
Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Wilson is, on the surface, a town troublemaker, but is hiding that he is an avid reader and secret poet, never leaving home without his journal. A passionate follower of WEB. Du Bois, he believes that black people should rise up to claim their place as equals.
Sixteen-year-old Angel Hill is a loner, mostly disregarded by her peers as a goody-goody. Her father is dying, and her family’s financial situation is in turmoil. Also, as a loyal follower of Booker T. Washington, she believes, through education and tolerance, that black people should rise slowly and without forced conflict.
Though they’ve attended the same schools, Isaiah never noticed Angel as anything but a dorky, Bible toting church girl. Then their English teacher offers them a job on her mobile library, a three-wheel, two-seater bike. Angel can’t turn down the money and Isaiah is soon eager to be in such close quarters with Angel every afternoon.
But life changes on May 31, 1921 when a vicious white mob storms the community of Greenwood, leaving the town destroyed and thousands of residents displaced. Only then, Isaiah, Angel, and their peers realize who their real enemies are.

Thirty Talks Weird Love by Alessandra Narváez Varela Cinco Puntos Press
Out of nowhere, a lady comes up to Anamaría and says she’s her, from the future. But Anamaría’s thirteen, she knows better than to talk to some weirdo stranger. Girls need to be careful, especially in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico—it’s the 90’s and fear is overtaking her beloved city as cases of kidnapped girls and women become alarmingly common. This thirty-year-old “future” lady doesn’t seem to be dangerous but she won’t stop bothering her, switching between cheesy Hallmark advice about being kind to yourself, and some mysterious talk about saving a girl.
Anamaría definitely doesn’t need any saving, she’s doing just fine. She works hard at her strict, grade-obsessed middle school—so hard that she hardly gets any sleep; so hard that the stress makes her snap not just at mean girls but even her own (few) friends; so hard that when she does sleep she dreams about dying—but she just wants to do the best she can so she can grow up to be successful. Maybe Thirty’s right, maybe she’s not supposed to be so exhausted with her life, but how can she ask for help when her city is mourning the much bigger tragedy of its stolen girls?
This thought-provoking, moving verse novel will lead adult and young adult readers alike to vital discussions on important topics—like dealing with depression and how to recognize this in yourself and others—through the accessible voice of a thirteen-year-old girl.

As Frankie does things he never thought he’d be capable of, he’s forced to confront the truth of the family and future he was born into—and the ones he wants to build for himself.
Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo Dutton Books for Young Readers
“That book. It was about two women, and they fell in love with each other.” And then Lily asked the question that had taken root in her, that was even now unfurling its leaves and demanding to be shown the sun: “Have you ever heard of such a thing?”
Seventeen-year-old Lily Hu can’t remember exactly when the question took root, but the answer was in full bloom the moment she and Kathleen Miller walked under the flashing neon sign of a lesbian bar called the Telegraph Club.
America in 1954 is not a safe place for two girls to fall in love, especially not in Chinatown. Red-Scare paranoia threatens everyone, including Chinese Americans like Lily. With deportation looming over her father—despite his hard-won citizenship—Lily and Kath risk everything to let their love see the light of day.

In the aftermath, Kiran reveals the truth about Sahaara’s conception. Horrified, Sahaara encourages Kiran to speak out against the man who raped her—who’s now a popular political figure in Punjab. The Knockout by Sajni Patel Flux
If seventeen-year-old Kareena Thakkar is going to alienate herself from the entire Indian community, she might as well do it gloriously. She’s landed the chance of a lifetime, an invitation to the US Muay Thai Open, which could lead to a spot on the first-ever Olympic team. If only her sport wasn’t seen as something too rough for girls, something she’s afraid to share with anyone outside of her family. Despite pleasing her parents, exceling at school, and making plans to get her family out of debt, Kareena’s never felt quite Indian enough, and her training is only making it worse.
Which is inconvenient, since she’s starting to fall for Amit Patel, who just might be the world’s most perfect Indian. Admitting her feelings for Amit will cost Kareena more than just her pride–she’ll have to face his parents’ disapproval, battle her own insecurities, and remain focused for the big fight. Kareena’s bid for the Olympics could very well make history–if she has the courage to go for it.
Wings of Ebony (Wings of Ebony #1) by J. Elle Denene Millner Books/Simon Schuster Books for Young Readers

Rue’s taken from her neighborhood by the father she never knew, forced to leave her little sister behind, and whisked away to Ghizon—a hidden island of magic wielders.

Miserable and desperate to see her sister on the anniversary of their mother’s death, Rue breaks Ghizon’s sacred Do Not Leave Law and returns to Houston, only to discover that Black kids are being forced into crime and violence. And her sister, Tasha, is in danger of falling sway to the very forces that claimed their mother’s life.

The special concert will be available from the middle of December
Donmar Warehouse in London has revealed plans for a streamed concert filmed at the Actor's Church in Covent Garden, London.

Donmar Warehouse artistic director Michael Longhurst said: "At the end of a very difficult year for us all, we wanted to bring together a group of incredible artists to celebrate the festive season in true Donmar style. We are thrilled to be creating this concert for the special setting of the Actors' Church – and offer it as a heartfelt thank you to our audiences for their unwavering support this year. Even though we can't be together in person, we hope you will all join us online to share the joy of music and theatre which has endured throughout the challenges of 2020."
Appearing in the concert will be Imelda Staunton (Gypsy), Jim Carter (Guys and Dolls), Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting), Giles Terera (Hamilton), Rosalie Craig (Company) and Sharon Rose (Hamilton).
Further names will be unveiled over the coming weeks, with special guests expected.

As we all now Ben hit his head February 21, 2020 as he surfaced in the River Thames after the Boat he was on sank. During #Eastenders 35th Anniversary Week. It all Started When #Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) heeded his Manipulating Dad last December After #Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) found out his wife, #Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean), was having an Affair with a 19 Year old #Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) after getting Pregnant.
Ben had #Martin Fowler (James Bye) kill Keanu for his dad. And rather than allow his Beau to get into trouble Ben brutally dumped him before the holidays. You could see the tears streaming down Ben’s face as he walked away. Only thing was that #Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) accidentally walked in. Unable to kill the man Martin and Linda let him go and told him never to come back. After Sharon had both Phil and Ben arrested for questioning on Keanu’s Murder they decided to leave Walford and head to Portugal. Before Ben left Callum begged him to stay. And it worked Ben could not leave his daughter, Lexi Pearce (Isabella Brown) or the man he is crazy in love with #Callum Highway (Tony Clay). Ben’s hearing worsened sending him on a collision coarse with being arrested for Grand Theft Auto. As Ben dealt with the shock of being 99% Deaf he lashes out at Callum.
Then an old Friend wanting revenge, #Danny Hardcastle (Paul Usher) has a proposition for Ben. But Callum, Knowing who Danny is intervened prompting Ben to Lash our. Get a little too close to an older gentleman in the pub then steals his car in last night’s episode of Eastenders (March 30, 2020). Well tonight’s episode sees Sharon Lashing our at Phil telling him he’s responsible for Denny’s death. Ben still reeling from Hearing Loss, loss of Denny and not being allowed to go to his funeral weighed heavily on Ben. But something WAS going on in Ben’s mind as he acted out. Initially Ben resorted to his old trick of pushing those that love him away when he’s vulnerable. Including Callum. The others got Fed up with Ben. All except Callum.
After his Arrest. It must have dawned on Ben that NO MATTER WHAT he did! NO MATTER HOW he treated others including Callum! NOW MATTER WHAT Ben wanted there was one person that was JUST AS DETERMINED AND STUBBORN as he was. Callum! And Callum refused to budge. He Loved Ben more than anything and he was not going to let him walk into his life make him deal with being gay falling in love with the guy just to see him walk out by pushing him away. Callum woke up in the Morning to Ben not being in bed beside him. Callum panics but Ben is in the living room on the floor wrapping Callum’s Birthday gift. Ben tells Callum that his own father never asked how he was with the near complete loss of his hearing. “Dad, never asked after I was fitted with my first hearing aid either”. Ben had menengitis as an infant which made him partially deaf in his left ear. Callum told him how much Ben means to him and how special he is to Lexi, Lola, Jay, Sharon, Bobby, Ian, Peter, and Maybe Phil, although I have my doubts. Callum nearly caused Ben to cry. Then it happens HALLELUJAH!!!!!! Three words that Ballum fans have been waiting months to hear out of Ben’s Mouth. He says I LOVE ❤️ YOU! To Callum. HOORAY!!!!!!!!! Callum responds by Saying I LOVE ❤️ YOU! To Ben in Sign Language. Ben goes over for a much needed Kiss.
As we all know that Ben Mitchell who was portrayed by Harry Reid 2014-2018. Max Bowden took over the Role in early 2019. Ben met #Paul Coker (Johnny Labby) sadly Eastenders decided to kill off Paul in a hate fueled Gay Bashing. Ben had just tol Paul that he loved him minutes before the attack began. I think that was one reason why Ben has had so much trouble with saying that to Callum.
On a different note. Last November in Wuhan, China a new Coronavirus reared it’s ugly head. Although Officially it’s December 2019. But the Chinese Government covered that up. The Coronavirus or Novice Coronavirus which is a Resperatory Illness more deadly than the Flu.
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) over 80,651 Cases Of Infection by Mar 7. The World Health Organization declared Coronavirus COVID-19 a Pandemic. As a result in tbe United Kingdom, as in the United States all Filming of Series, and Soaps we’re suspended. Eastenders suspended filming about 2 weeks ago. And reduced the number of Episodes from 4 per week to 2 per week. Tonight’s Episode was scheduled to air March 24. Eastenders, Like Hollyoaks, Casualty, Holby City, Coronation Street Emmerdale Australia’s Home and Away, and Neighbors. USA Days of Our Lives and General Hospital film weeks in advance. Tonight’s episode was filmed six weeks ago. With that in mind dropping down to two episodes a week will keep the show on for as long as possible. However, if they do not resume filming before they run out it will take up to 6 weeks after Filming is resumed before a new episode will be ready to air.

WIP Wednesday - 6 Jan 2021
Organizing this by bingo cards - since pretty much everything I’ve been working on is for these bingos.
Bucky Barnes Bingo (wrapped up 31 Dec 2020)
18 fills posted and two Bingos achieved! (Row 3 & column 3) - I also managed what I’m calling a “tiny blackout” - filling a block of nine squares. I am working on my masterpost, which is due by the 7th. I snuck in the following fills at the last minute:
* Shipwrecked - Want to Dive Into Your Ocean - sailor!Steve and mer!Bucky adventures -- this is something I’m wanting to follow up on when I have the spoons.
* KINK: Pornstar/Rentboy/Sex Worker - Takin’ What They’re Givin’ (‘Cause I’m Workin’ for a Livin’) - Camboy!Bucky shows off some new toys - TheMechanic and BrooklynBorn are very appreciative. This is a WIP with two more chapters planned, one of which will cross over with my TSB Sex Compulsion square, I think.
StarkBucks Bingo (wrapped up 31 Dec 2020)
13 fills posted with one bingo - Four Corners and Center with one last minute fill - masterpost here
* Sharon Carter - filled this with a moodboard/drabble combo: Gentlemen Prefer Blonds
WinterHawk Bingo (Wraps up 28 Feb 2021)
The bingo mods gave us a one-month extension - w00t! I have 4 fills posted and am aiming to get a Row 2 bingo with the following squares:
* Romantic Sex – Made a really good start on 5 Times Clint and Bucky Hooked Up and One Time It Was More. It’s sitting at 1056 words, with the first four hookups written - working on the fifth, with the ‘plus one’ being the actual Romantic Sex bit. Hoping to post by the end of the month, if not sooner.
* Wearing Each Other’s Merch - Stuffed Marvels design as a fancraft. I know what I want to do - just need to sit down and sketch/color it.
Tony Stark Bingo (runs thru 10 April 2020)
12 squares filled with 4 instances of 3/5 fills in a row/column - am taking a rather scattershot approach to my card, but will eventually end up with a bingo or two :^D
* Hot Water - this will probably be the tie-in for the Free Square on the STB Bingo One Fill, One Bingo challenge (see below)
* Old Married Couple - I have a draft of a drabble that was supposed to fill the KINK: Sex Compulsion square, but it may work better as a fill for this square. Either way - it’s a challenge to get the story I’m aiming for into just 100 words!
* Writing Format: Outsider POV - Poking at something for this featuring Maria Hill and her thoughts on Tony and Steve (tho I haven’t decided if it will go Stony or not). It’s barely started at 122 words.
* WTF - an eventually smutty sequel for Try (Tri) Again with Tony and Eddie|Venom - currently at a standstill at 851 words.
* WinterIron - this is practically a free square for me, ya know? :^D I might use the following idea that I was considering for my Rescue Mission square in the SBB: – Allied Forces - Set a few weeks post-CA:WS, Steve goes back to his Washington DC apartment; Tony asks JARVIS to surveil him, just in case. When Cap gets kidnapped by men wearing the Hydra logo, Tony suspects the Winter Soldier came to finish the job. Sitting at 480 words - it should get slightly angsty, but will have a happy ending.
* KINK: Sex Compulsion – I have an idea for a follow-on chapter to Takin’ What They’re Givin’ (‘Cause I’m Workin’ for a Livin’)
* Hindsight - a Natasha POV on events from IM2 - particularly Tony’s birthday party. Nothing written down as of yet.
Stucky Bingo 2020 (runs thru 31 May 2021)
2 fills posted with one possible WIP
* Reunion - might try to squeeze a WIP I’ve had hanging around for awhile into this square: Red Reign of Roses - a mashup of Alice in Wonderland and the MCU with the Soldier as the Knave of Hearts and shrimpy!Steve as Alice/the slayer of the Jabberwock. It’s sitting at 171 words and needs some attention Current Last Line: But the visitor had angered the Queen when he called her capriciousness into question.
I may squeeze a future chapter of Takin’ What They’re Givin’ (‘Cause I’m Workin’ for a Livin’) into this bingo as well - Chronic Pain would actually work well, or Super Serum... :: ponders ::
Trying to figure out which square(s) to use for a continuation of Want to Dive Into Your Ocean -- possibilities include Role Reversal, Dysmorphia or Change Into an Animal --- any suggestions or requests, please let me know!
Steve/Tony/Bucky (STB) Bingo - (runs thru 20 Jun 2021)
4 fills posted with a couple of ideas in various statues of WIP-ness.
* One Fill, One Bingo - this is kind of a cool challenge where you write one fic that includes 5 prompts that would score a bingo - I’ve got a pretty decent idea that combines Bots as Children, Iron Dad, Free square (which will either pull from BBB or TSB), One Night Stand and AU: Space.
* Camboy - filled with Takin’ What They’re Givin’ (‘Cause I’m Workin’ for a Livin’) (WIP to be continued)
* Spoiled House Husband – I’ve got a Stony/ Stuckony roleplay idea for this that’s a bit silly and may or may not go smutty.
* AU: Western - I’m thinking Stuffed Marvel versions of 1872 Steve and Tony would work nicely here...
—–
Thanks to two generous donors joining forces, I raised $60 for the What2Finish Charity Auction and will be working on the following published WIPs starting Real Soon. The Thorn and the Rose Torn By What We’ve Done And Can’t Undo
Looking forward to working with my donors to flesh out some ideas and get much-needed cheer-reading!
—-
On other creative fronts, I have my January commission slots filled with FatWS Bucky and either Bucharest Bucky or Wakanda Bucky (to be designed), a He-Man figure and a Bendy (from Bendy and the Ink Machine) figure on deck.
You can always check out Stuffed With Character over on Facebook for a full list of my designs (almost at 80!). They’re mostly Marvel and monsters, but I have some Star Wars, DC and Disney figures as well. Plus I love to take custom design requests! NOTE: I have four commission slots open for February.
Feel free to send me asks regarding any of these projects (or any other WIPs I’ve got out there) – they really help feed the Muse and keep me motivated!

"Let's Have That Playdate Tomorrow!"
Friday 20th November 2020
Hello again everyone! Hope you all are doing well, this current lockdown is nearly at an end! Hopefully things will start to look a bit better when Christmas comes around! I apologise for me being so behind on the episodes lately, unfortunately I am still working during this current lockdown and of course with things happening in my own personal life, there are times I miss out on watching an episode, let alone even getting the time to review one and type up a blog. I want to thank you all for your on-going support, there have been so many spoilers as to what may be happening over the Christmas period on Albert Square, I'm really looking to watching it all unfold!
Meanwhile, let's carry on from where I was last up to, Friday's episode. The episode begins with Kat, she's slumped on the kitchen table as Stacey makes her way in. Poor Kat looks as if she hasn't been able to have a wink of sleep all night. She reveals to Stacey that she's tried calling everyone she knows trying to find the whereabouts of Kush, she's still trying to call him but his phone remains off. Who knows where he must've gone to after the robbery?! He seems to have just done a disappearing act. But Kat isn't one to just hang around and do nothing, as she grabs her coat, she informs Stacey that she's going off to the police station to give her statement and then she's going to try and find Kush. If the police haven't got him then he must be somewhere?!
Meanwhile, Callum looks absolutely lost. He's seems to be in a world of his own as he tends to his busted lip. As Ben walks in, they begin to discuss how the whole situation has turned into such a mess. Callum informs his boyfriend that he really didn't have a choice but to let Kush go, considering he'd threatened to take down Ben with him if he got caught. Ben then speaks his opinion that Kush should remain missing, he seems to be believe that they would've gotten away with the robbery if Kush hadn't set off the silent alarm - however things seems to take an interesting turn here, Callum then reveals to his boyfriend that there actually wasn't a silent alarm, and the other reason the police turned up was because they received an anonymous 999 call. Ben seems to look deeply concerned, but does he have an idea as to who grassed them up?! Wait till he finds out that it was his brother!!
At the laundrette, Max walks in on Linda drawing up some new ideas for her business idea. She shows Max her rough copies of the new superhero's she's made, and of course - Max is really impressed and suggest that she should post them online. Once again I'm sensing more flirtation between the two, they suggest bringing their children together for a playdate and perhaps modelling some outfits that Linda has designed, but it's just so blatantly obvious that Linda is flirting when she suggests having an adult in on the modelling too to be pose with the children. They share a giggle as Sharon enters the building, oooh Sharon knows she has walked in on something! Both Linda and Max act very coy when she asks if she's interrupting something, Linda reveals to her friend that Max is helping with her business idea for the Lucy Beale Award. Sharon knows that Max is up to no good, the last thing she wants is for Max to break up another marriage! What do you think, are Linda and Max just good friends? Or do you fear that something is going to happen between the two and they'll cross the line?!
In the Cafe, Tiffany is informing her husband that both Rainie and Stuart haven't been in touch with her for a while since she agreed to be their surrogate, however once Keegan notices that she's had her phone on "Airplane Mode", loads of messages seem to come through once she's taken it off. I mean, of course Stuart and Rainie are going to be in touch with her as much as they can, it's the excitement of being one step closer to becoming parents. Suddenly they make their way into the Cafe and insist on buying Tiffany breakfast, however in stead of buying a lovely full English Breakfast, Rainie brings up a plate of salad to her - I mean, I get she wants her to be healthy so she'll be able to look after their baby okay, but something tells me it would start being a bit of an insult if she starts telling her what to eat and what not to eat. Tiffany and Keegan can both see this is going to be a really long journey for them.
Out on the Square, Ian appears to be dressed in his finest as he gives an interview for the Walford Gazette newspaper. I'm unsure what that interview is for, possibly for his public image? Or wanting to get the word out that the Vic is now under new management. He's one again gloating to this news crew that if it wasn't for him, the Queen Vic would've hit rock bottom with sales, business, etc. However, unfortunate for Ian, Tina is stood behind him listening to every word he's saying. It's interesting how many people he's really beginning to annoy and how many people are/will have it in for him. As Tina walks away after hearing him insult her family, Suki approaches and acknowledges how happy she is that someone as up-standing as Ian is getting the recognition he deserves, of course she's only saying that because they've come to an agreement of some kind. I do have a feeling that things aren't going to continue going well for Mr. Beale.
Returning to the Mitchell household, Kat pays them a visit an informs Callum that she's been down the statement having to give a false statement. She informs the young police officer that he didn't drop him in it but she knows full well that he let Ben off, she demands to know where Kush is, if anyone would know, he would, right?! Callum informs Kat that he has no idea of the whereabouts of Kush, its then he also drops the bombshell that he did find Kush during the robbery, but Kush ended up punching him and fleeing the scene. Kat can't believe that Kush would punch Callum, but he informs her that it's probably best if Kush stays hidden for the time being, as he not also took part in a robbery, he also assaulted a police officer, so maybe he is just lying low.
At the Atkins household, Phil is questioning Gray whether they'll be any issues in changing the licence plates on the cars. But Shirley reassures her boss that the paper work needs to be absolutely spot on, which is why Gray is doing the paperwork and Phil isn't! Interesting, there seems to be a lot of people who are in-the-know about this robbery. It's amazing how none of them have grassed any of them up, well of course except for Ian. But there's Kat, Stacey, Phil, Shirley, Ben, Callum, Kush, Gray, Sharon ... (Well maybe she doesn't know about the burglary but she's felt comfortable about giving Phil a false alibi?!) As Phil leaves the property, Tina arrives back and it's clear to see that she is seething over Ian's insults to her family and his attitude towards them and the Vic. Tina pleads to her sister that they attempt to get the pub back in their name, but Shirley reminds Tina that Linda is still an alcoholic, that was the reason they sold up in the first place. But Tina seems to believe that Linda is doing a lot better recently, she explains that since they sold the pub, Mick hasn't been the same, he seems to be so unhappy and lost. Could there be a way for the Carter's to win back the pub?! Is the pub really in Ian's name or Sharon's name? As Ian has always said that he bought the pub for Sharon, but who's name is really on the lease of the building?!
Returning to the Vic, Linda is informing her best friend about application for the Lucy Beale Award. It's nice to see Linda looking more positive and happy about her future prospects, but it's clear to see that Sharon is worried for her friend about getting too close to Max. As Linda is glowing with the excitement of a whole new beginning, Sharon voices her concerns about Max, but in a loving, friendly way that everything seems okay now between them, but if things go on it won't be long before Max will have his tongue down her throat. (However little does she know that they have already shared a kiss!) Linda reassures her friend that she wouldn't cheat on Mick and that she literally just sees Max as a mate. But Sharon has a good point, whilst Mick is away staying with Lee, it's understandable she's enjoying the attention but I'd hate to think she'd cheat on her husband whilst he was away, especially considering what he's been dealing with in recent weeks.
Meanwhile at the restaurant, Iqra is sat doing paperwork. Ian is stood behind the bar as Suki walks in, subtly she hands him over an envelope with half of the amount she promised him inside. Ian doesn't seem impressed and pulls Suki into the back for a private word, leaving the money on the bar counter. As he pulls Suki to one side he asks Iqra to watch the bar whilst they're in the back. Iqra is quite reluctant but once both Ian and Suki are out the back, Iqra starts to clean behind the bar, until she eventually comes across the envelope with the money inside it - instantly she's looking a little confused as to where this money has come from, but suddenly she begins to hear voices. Ian and Suki are both discussing their plan, Suki tells Ian that he won't receive the other half of the money until he has held up his end of the bargain and put things into paperwork and he has signed some kind of formal documents she needs, planning approval etc. Iqra is really shocked to have heard what she has, but what will she do with this information? Will she tell Ash what her Mother is really up to?! Or maybe will she help Tina in getting the Vic back in the Carter's name, knowing full well that Ian is up to some dodgy deals with Suki! Who knows?!
Back out on the Square, Whitney is seen leaving the Minute Mart as car sirens can be heard, slowly Ruby approaches from behind and they both watch in amazement as from across the Square, the police pull up the Slater household and barge their way in as they look for Kush. Stacey's voice can be heard objecting to them entering the house. Ruby voices her opinion that it doesn't surprise her that the police have come knocking at their door, however Whitney's response is more sympathetic, she questions that maybe the police have got the wrong house? But Ruby just laughs at Whitney's response and says that it wouldn't surprise her if they found something at the Slater household. Hmm, does Whitney know more than she's letting on?! Why would she be so quick to defend the Slater's?!
At the Carter's household, Max once again is helping Linda with her costumes (Wow! Can I just say how big baby Abi has grown?! I know it sounds silly, but I still picture her as a little baby, not the toddler that she's become. Didn't realise it was that long ago that Abi Branning passed away! Only feels like a year or two ago - which may possibly be how old young Abi it?!) As Linda is eager to get the children in their superhero outfits, Max picks out one for Ollie to year, however Linda recalls that the one he picked was the one Mick made for him when Ollie was first diagnosed with Autism. You can see a slight look of sadness as she mentions how Mick didn't want their son to feel different from everyone, so instead of different they made him feel special. When Max puts the superhero outfit away, Linda admits to him that it was actually Mick's idea to make their son a Superhero outfit. Is there a sense of guilt between them now that Mick hasn't been brought into the idea of superhero clothes for children?! Or the fact that they're feeling guilty for spending a lot of time together and have quite visibly been flirting with one another? Who knows?!
Meanwhile, Iqra has found her way to the Prince Albert, unfortunately she doesn't seem to be listening fully to Tina as her head is replaying what she's overheard from Ian and Suki. Tina is voicing how much she's going to miss living with her and Ash, but she understands that her moving out would help Iqra and Ash spend some time together. However, Iqra feels trapped in a corner as she admits to Tina that she can't stand Ash's family. I have to say I really do like the friendship between Tina and Iqra, I did kind of wish that they were a couple instead of Iqra and Ash. Anyway Iqra finds it in herself to confide in Tina and reveals everything that she witnessed, Suki giving Ian some money in return for some approval on a planning application. Tina tells Iqra that she's got to tell someone, she knows full well how dodgy Ian is being at the moment. Iqra pleads to her not to tell anyone, especially considering the fact the Iqra can't tell her own girlfriend that her Mum is up to something. But what will Tina do with this information? Will she find a way of getting her own back on Ian herself?!
Back at the Carter household, Max and Linda are enjoying taking pictures of their children in Linda's new children's superhero outfits. Only things take a slight U-turn when Max comments that they both make a good team. I think Linda maybe feels a little uncomfortable with his comment, he thanks Max for all his help but expressions her opinion that once they're done he should leave. Only when Linda begins to take photo's of Ollie with the flash on her phone, it frightens the poor boy and he attempts to hide underneath the kitchen table with his hands over his eyes. Linda apologises to her son and tries to coax him out but to no avail, Max then decides to take it upon himself to try and gain the little boy's trust. He gets down to his level and squeezes underneath the table, softly he speaks to the little boy and after suggesting that they build a den after taking their photographs, the little boy removes his hands from his face, much to Linda's surprise. Eventually Max persuades little Ollie to get up and join in with taking photographs, to which Linda is incredibly thankful.
Back on the Square, Tiffany and Keegan are approaching the chippy (Yum! Everyone loves a chippy, right?!) As Keegan orders himself some food, Tiffany feels a bit gutted that she's having to stay healthy. As she's voicing her frustration, Stuart appears from behind and informs her that he's managed to go to the chemist and pick up some vitamins for her. He pulls out about 3 or 4 different tube bottles full of pills and Tiffany is looking pretty overwhelmed with this new information that she's having to take pills as well as eat healthily. However it looks as if enough is enough when Stuart asks her to start taking them that day, she understands that they want the baby to be healthy but she assures Stuart that she wouldn't let anything happen to their child once its in her womb. Stuart seems to understand, he apologises for coming on so heavy, its nice that they have come to acknowledge each other's understanding, Tiffany tells him politely that she's more than happy to carry their child for them, but it does not mean that they can start telling her what she can and can't do, and in all fairness - Stuart completely agrees and announces that they'll do it Tiffany's way, to which she then responds with happily ordering something from the chippy.
Once again, returning to the Carter household, Ollie and Abi are both playing happily together as they wind down after their photoshoot. Linda is sat with Max as they look over the photographs they've taken. This scene did get me a little worried as I sensed something, once again, was going to happen between the two. Max brings up the fact that he's trying to be supportive to Linda considering he was with her the last time she had a drink, he doesn't want her to feel that she's got no one to talk to, but regardless of them spending time together, he admits that he knows that she and Mick are solid. It's then Linda seems to look upset and reveals to Max that things haven't exactly been brilliant between them recently, she explains that each time she tries she feels she's just pushing him further and further away. Perhaps this is why she's been enjoying Max's company so much, it's made her feel something again - I mean when was the last time, Mick and Linda actually had a laugh with each other and showed each other some affection? It's been a long time, hasn't it?! Max seems to understand but he makes the big confession that the only reason he kissed her a while back is because he wanted to, and more interestingly, he stills wants to! Things are looking as if they are going to pounce on each other, however Ollie breaks the silence as he asks for his Mummy. As Linda goes to see her to son, Max suggests that they make another play date for their children, to which Linda coldly responds by saying she'll text him.
Back at the Slater household, Kat answers her mobile which is ringing on the kitchen table, it appears to be Stacey on the other end. She informs her cousin that she's been desperately trying to search for her boyfriend but can't find him anywhere. Suddenly, there's a knock on the backdoor and Kat is surprised to see Whitney stood there. It's then Whitney announces that there's something she needs to show her, pretty urgently and they both leave the house together. Meanwhile in the Vic, Ian is feeling positive about his interview with the newspaper, even though he is looking incredibly happy with himself, the fella from the newspaper seems less than impressed as he downs his bottle of beer. Across the bar, both Callum and Ben are trying to talk about something other than the robbery. Oh but just by coincidence, as soon as Ben questions whether Callum can trace who dialled the 999 call, Ian is stood behind the bar ear-wigging on their conversation. However Callum is unsure whether the call will be able to be traced, but then again the only thing they'll find out is that it was made from a telephone box. Maybe Ian did a clever thing for once and made sure he dialled from a phone box and not a mobile phone, that way it would be harder for them to trace?! Suddenly Tina enters the Vic and makes her way toward the bloke from the newspaper. Ooooh I'm liking the look of this!!! She questions whether he's writing an article about Ian Beale, but the bloke doesn't seem interested if she's going to comment on how much of a aspect to the community he is, but then his attention in instantly grabbed as Tina admits that that is not what's doing, she mentions that if he really wants a story then she has one for him. Ooooh - I'm loving this! Yes! GO TINA!!! Is she going to spill what Iqra has informed her about and portray Ian in a terrible light?! In all seriousness, it's more than what he deserves! Only the downside is, will it fall back onto Iqra and will she get the blame?!
Eventually Kat makes it to what looks like Whitney's attic, she's questioning why Whitney has brought her up there, only as she turns around, Kush is seen sat in the very far corner, almost looking scared and very sheepish. Kat is absolutely elated to find her boyfriend is safe and sound, she announces how worried she's been about him, but Kush is nothing but deeply apologetic for making such a mess of things. He's tries to explain how he thought he would be able to start the car and how things just turned so messy. Kat is just happy to see that Kush is safe, she promises him that they will sort everything out together.
At Ruby's club, Linda is sat alone with a drink, Ruby enters the room carrying a huge box of wine. It looks as if Linda is feeling sorry for herself, she seems very agitated when Ruby politely asks if she's okay. Whether she's waiting for someone or something else. Linda then voices that everyone around her sees her not as Linda anymore, but Linda The Alcoholic! Ruby tries to persuade her that that isn't the case at all, she tries to explain that she has lots of friends and family around her who are just trying to look out for her. She questions whether she should all Mick, but Linda snaps back that he isn't her carer, he's her husband. She also makes sure to point out to Ruby that the drink she's got in her hand is only orange juice, nothing else! But Ruby is quick to throw in one last dig, she knows that she's drinking a soft drink, as she explains that all her staff have a list of who not to serve alcohol to, and it turns out that Linda's name is right at the very top of that list! Honestly, that's a bit of a big insult, I think that would hurt anyone really wouldn't it?! As Ruby leaves the room, Linda takes it upon herself to approach the box of wine which she's left at the bar and swipes a bottle before leaving. Once she's home, she's sat alone with the bottle and a glass already poured, to me it looks like that she really can't take Mick's behaviour anymore, she's feeling lonely, unwanted and maybe also missing her husband as well as missing their happiness and intimacy. She attempts to call him but to no avail as it the dial tone rings dead, I did fear at this point that she was going to take a big gulp of wine. She brings the glass up to her face and she gently smells the wine, she then plonks the glass back down and dials another number - Max! She agrees to go along with the playdate for the children for the following day, but something else is telling me, is she doing it for the company. If Mick isn't around then why not have Max's attention. I do thing as things go on, something will happen between the two, what do you think? Feeling a little more relieved she gets up and throws the glass of wine and the bottle down the sink!
A very interesting episode I have to say, some very interesting things taking place, I mean I do feel a lot of it will come to some form of explosion within the next few days. I do feel that all this that's happening right now will be the drama that's all going to explode coming towards Christmas! Christmas is only a month away and it's not going to be long now until huge secrets are revelled and big bombshells are going to be dropped. EastEnders is always explosive at Christmas, right?! I, for one, am incredibly excited to see it all unfold! Thank you all for reading, I'll be back again tomorrow with another blog. Enjoy the rest of your evening folks! Love you all xXx

The 'fight for Florida' is happening in this once-conservative stronghold

The 'fight for Florida' is happening in this once-conservative stronghold
Davon Davis’ mother had reminded him constantly about voting. So on a recent Sunday the 20-year-old cast his first-ever ballot for president before dishing up wings and fries to voters at a Souls to the Polls event.
Two issues were key to Davis, a Jacksonville native who is starting college in January: the COVID-19 pandemic and racial justice. President Trump has failed at both, he said.
“When he got coronavirus, he’s telling people, ‘Oh, don’t worry about it, it’s not all that bad,’” said Davis, who added that he was angry because his own family members are vulnerable. “Not everybody has the money to pay for things if they do get sick.”
After he voted, Davis worked the Souls to Polls event to encourage Black residents of this Atlantic Coast city, the state’s most populous, to vote early. His cousins and brothers, they’d all already cast their ballots, he said.
“Wasn’t a better time than now to vote with all that’s going on in the world,” he said. “It’s the perfect time.”
Young voters like Davis have helped turn Jacksonville’s Duval County into an unlikely battleground in a state crucial to the presidential election. Republicans have long counted on running up votes in the state’s conservative north to compete with Democratic strongholds in south Florida, and the last time Duval County chose a Democrat for president was 1976, when voters went for Georgian Jimmy Carter.
“Wasn’t a better time than now to vote with all that’s going on in the world,” said Davon Davis, a 20-year-old native of Jacksonville, Fla., who said he voted for Democrat Joe Biden.

But Duval’s ruby red shine has dulled over the years. And if Democrats hold their lead with early votes, experts say, the county that both parties see as pivotal could flip.
Trump, who needs Florida to win reelection, won some surrounding counties by more than 50 points in 2016, but Duval was much closer. And in 2018, the county voted for a Democrat for governor for the first time in decades.
An “Obama coalition” of young white and Black voters and Latinos helped boost the candidacy of Andrew Gillum, the state’s first Black gubernatorial candidate for a major party, said Sharon Austin, a University of Florida political science professor. Black Americans make up about 30% of the county’s population and 54% of its registered Democrats.
“Democratic candidates have a realistic chance in that county,” Austin said.
Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s choice of California Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate has helped his pitch to Black voters, she noted. Harris, the first Black woman on a major party ticket, came to Jacksonville on the first day of in-person early voting in October. “A lot of people in Duval, especially in the Black community, really like her,” Austin said.
Democrats in Duval have doubled their lead to 6 points over Republicans in voter registration since 2016, said Michael M. Binder, director of the Public Opinion Research Lab at the University of North Florida. Of the 55% of active eligible voters who had cast their ballots as of Friday, Democrats held an early-vote lead of about 22,000.
“If the Black vote in Duval turns out, it’s not because Duval is special — it’s because Duval is reflective of the Black vote across the state and across the country,” Binder said.
More than 8.7 million Floridians had voted by Sunday morning, closing in on Florida’s 9.6 million total 2016 count, according to U.S. Elections Project at the University of Florida. By Friday, nearly 200,000 more Black voters had cast ballots than at the same time in the 2016 election, and that includes an increase in those under 29, said Adrianne Shropshire, executive director of the BlackPAC. In previous elections, Black votes were left on the table in north Florida because of a lack of voter outreach. This year, voters are determined — “People are angry about what is happening in the country,” she said.
Steve Schale, a Florida Democratic strategist, said views of the state’s politics often discount Black voters in the north. “People’s impressions of Florida are always wherever they’ve been,” Schale said. “They think of Disney World, they think of African American voters, they think of Miami or Fort Lauderdale. And people forget, nearly 25% of registered African American voters in Florida live all in the I-10 corridor from Jacksonville to Pensacola.”
Schale, who led Obama’s 2008 campaign efforts in the state and runs a pro-Biden PAC, likes the way Duval is headed. On Tuesday, he wrote: “Unless something really goes south, Joe Biden is going to win Duuuuval.”
When Trump won the county in 2016 by only about 6,000 votes, Republicans noted it as unusual, said Dean Black, current chairman of the Duval GOP. Democrats Gillum and then-Sen. Bill Nelson went on to lose in their 2018 midterm elections, but the fact that both captured Duval came as a shock, Black said.
“In elections that are this close, every county in Florida is very important,” Black said in an interview from the party’s office in downtown Jacksonville. But Duval, he believes, will be pivotal. “The fact that Democrats have poured such a high level of resources into this county, year after year after year, they have made it a strategic focal point in the fight for Florida.”
Since Black became chairman at the end of 2018, the Republican Party opened several field offices, recruited more than 1,000 volunteers, and most recently knocked on 50,000 doors in a week. He described it as “an unprecedented ground game for Duval County” to compete with Democrats.

The Trump campaign has also focused on the county. Jacksonville, led by GOP officials, was briefly scheduled to host the Republican National Convention until the coronavirus outbreak worsened in the state. Trump rallied in Jacksonville in late September, and his oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., was in town last month. The campaign also opened a Black Voices for Trump office in northern Jacksonville, aiming to chip away at the Democratic base.
On Thursday, a county judge who served as chairman of the vote-counting board, which reviews and decides which rejected ballots should count, resigned from the panel after the Florida Times-Union reported he donated several times to the president and had multiple Trump signs in his yard, violating judicial and canvassing board rules.
Closer to the coast in Duval, Trump signs and flags become more apparent in yards and on trucks and boats. Gabe and Maria Goodman went to the Beaches Branch Library on a Sunday afternoon to cast their votes for Trump. The Neptune Beach couple said they believe the president dealt with the pandemic as best he could and deserved another four years.
“I think he’s handled it better than any Democrat president could have thought of handling it,” Gabe said.
White, retired voters like the Goodmans helped deliver Trump the state in 2016. But the president is struggling with the group amid the pandemic.

If there is one thing Republican leader Black and Daniel Henry, chairman of the Duval County Democratic Party, agree on, it’s their county’s role in the election.
“Duval will decide who the next president of the United States will be,” Henry said. Jacksonville residents are, on average, younger than those in other metropolitan cities like Miami, and he believes young African American voters “will have a huge impact in this election.”
Nonpartisan groups like My Vote Project have ramped up efforts to increase turnout among Black voters. On Sundays leading up to election day, churches participated in Souls to the Polls events to turn out their congregations in Jacksonville.
In interviews with about a dozen Black voters in Jacksonville, all said they voted or planned to vote to get Trump out of office.
On a Saturday afternoon, soon after rapper Common appeared at a Free the Vote event, friends Justin Lane, 22, and Tre Hall, 23, walked over the nearby early polling site, where Lane cast his vote for Biden.

(Melissa Gomez / Los Angeles Times)
“It’s on us to make a change,” he said, wearing his “I voted early!” sticker. “I have to show that as a young Black male, I understand that I am the future, and I do want to make a change for the better.”
After 2016, Hall said people at his church urged him and others to give Trump an opportunity to be a good president. “We gave him a chance for four years and he didn’t really show me anything,” said Hall, who voted for Biden on Monday.
Biden’s favorability among young Black voters is higher than with white or Latino youths, according to the latest Harvard Youth poll of voters ages 18 to 29. Justin Tseng, chair of the Harvard Public Opinion Project, which conducted the poll in September and October, said young Black Americans are more motivated than young people on average, second to white voters.
“Young Black Americans see 2020 as a chance to make an impact in the world and shape it for their own good … and move America toward justice and equality,” Tseng said.
Jacksonville, like many places in the South, has been shaped by race and racism. It is home to the state’s first historically Black college. Edward Waters College was founded in 1866 after the end of the Civil War to serve newly emancipated African Americans. Sixty years ago, a white mob attacked Black civil rights activists with ax handles, an event known as “Ax Handle Saturday.”
In an area once known as Durkeeville, where many African Americans lived and worked during segregation, local artists have turned a nearly block-long warehouse into a giant mural. Portraits of Black residents killed by gun violence run along one side, those of local activists cover another. A third side spells out, in huge block letters, “Black Votes Matter.”
The murals are part of Color Jax Blue, a project aiming to increase Black voter turnout. Shawana Brooks, the artist and curator who launched the project, has partnered with a food bank to offer free food and shuttle rides to an early voting site.
Brooks said her choice of blue for the mural backgrounds draws on the American flag and its symbolism of justice. It is an unfulfilled promise for Black Americans, she said, but the murals serve as a reminder for their community to empower themselves by voting.
“We wanted this to not only go up and be present for this time now, but thinking of five years later,” Brooks said, standing before the towering images. Pedestrians waved to the artists gathered with her; passing drivers honked greetings. “Black votes don’t just matter because it’s a national election. They matter because it’s a sense of nationalism that we have to make sure that we’re taken care of.”

Teyana Taylor For MAC Cosmetics
Teyana Taylor announced via Instagram that she will be launching her first makeup collection in collaboration with cosmetics giant MAC Cosmetics last week.
The brand is renowned for collaborating with some of the most world renowned faces across many industries including including the late Queen of Tejano music, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, (who currently holds the title for the best-selling collection of all time).Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Sharon and Kelly Osbourne come after her. Raquel Welch, Taraji P. Henson, Brooke Shields, Ru Paul and Lorde have all had collaboration with the brand too.
This has been a year in the making, the promo images took us back to the ’90s with this Grace Jones styling wearing a vintage Versace baroque-print look re-imagined by John Allen, and styled by Kollin Carter. The limited-edition collection MAC x Teyana Taylor is inspired by the dynamic artist’s love for the 90s. “I was inspired by the 90s and the heart & soul of Harlem and wanted to show that through the shades and packaging,” the singer said
“I’m very excited to be partnering with a company like MAC who I’ve watched collaborate with strong women of colour over the years.” Like many of us, Taylor’s first introductions to MAC was when she was a little girl beginning to experiment with makeup. “I’ve been a fan of MAC ever since I was 15 years old and started experimenting with makeup, it was the first brand that made me like makeup. I’m so grateful and excited to be sharing this beautiful collection I created with the MAC team but also hoping to inspire other young women that anything and everything is possible.
Teyana posted the imagery on social media with a long caption detailing her excitement to be partnering with the brand, which follows the news that the entertainer is expecting her second child with NBA baller Iman Shumpert.
The campaign was photographed by Daniel Sannwald, who has also photographed the likes of Travis Scott, Prada campaigns, and Kylie Jenner. The collection will launch internationally in July 2020 and be available online and via MAC Cosmetic stores.

The Weekend Warrior Home Edition May 22, 2020 – THE TRIP TO GREECE, MILITARY WIVES, INHERITANCE, THE LOVEBIRDS
I can’t believe I’m writing this, but the “Summer That Never Was” continues this weekend, which is…. Are you seated for this next part? Memorial Day weekend! Yeah, there will be none of the usual BBQs and block parties, but most of all, there will be none of the voracious moviegoing that signifies the pyrrhic start of the summer… that is, if you don’t count the normal first weekend of May or the actual start of summer later in June.
This was an even tougher week to write a column, because just as I was starting on it this weekend, one of my favorite filmmakers (and just a wonderful person), Lynn Shelton, died quite unexpectedly and tragically. It really shook me up, and I’m not quite sure how long it will take me for me to get unshaken. But I’m going to try to push on through the tragedy. Just bear with me, please, if this column doesn’t see the light of day until Thursday.
After a rather drab weekend with not too many new releases and fewer that I was very excited about, we’re getting a few semi-decent films that hopefully will find an audience at the drive-ins, including some newly reopened ones.
But first… SPAGHETTIMAN!!!!
I’m pretty excited to hear that the virtual Oxford Film Festival is doing a special one-day screening of the HeckssBender’s hilarious superhero comedy, which I saw at the festival way back in 2016, where it became a bit of a sensation. You can get tickets to watch the movie and attend a special commemorative QnA, moderated by yours truly, right here! As you can imagine, I’m a huge fan of this indie superhero movie set in L.A. where a slacker named Clark, played by Benjamin Crutcher (who I think will be a huge comedy star someday), ends up getting superpowers… um… to produce spaghetti. When his roommate and best friend Dale (Winston Carter) finds out, he prompts Clark to use his powers to fight crime, but Clark has a better idea… he can fight crime for MONEY! It’s a very funny and sometimes silly premise but man, I love what these guys did with that premise. If you’re a fan of Broken Lizard and other comedy collectives, you should use Spaghettiman as your entry into the wonderful and wacky world of HeckBender! (They made a second feature since then called Cop Chronicles: Loose Cannons: the Legend of the Haj-Mirage and they have a YouTube channel, if you want more laughs.)
Oxford also adds more things to its Virtual Cinema this weekend, including a block of “Black Lens Narrative Shorts,” the documentary Queen of Lapa and the third “Fest Forward” block, all of which you can order at Eventive (including a few that will end on Thursday).
Also, the second Film Festival Day will take place this Saturday through the Film Festival Alliance with a virtual screening of Angela Pinaglia’s documentary, Life in Synchro, which is all about synchronized ice skating. About 34 regional film festivals, including the Oxford Film Festival, are taking part in the program which takes place this Saturday, May 23, and you can learn more about it at the Film Festival Day site.
Now that we’ve gotten some of the festival news over with, let’s begin this week’s column with a trip to England… well, not quite. The movie I’ve been most excited about is Michael Winterbottom’s THE TRIP TO GREECE (IFC Films), the fourth (and sadly, final) movie in the series of mockumentaries, starring best frenemies Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, who have really turned these movies into quite an art and science.
As the title will attest, this time they’re in Greece, basically doing the same things they did in Italy and Spain, visiting restaurants, eating food, squabbling with each other while also trying to one-up each other with a choice of selection of impressions. There’s a lot of Bee Gees and John Travolta references, as well as the duo recreating scenes from movies like Marathon Man and Midnight Cowboy. When that’s not happening, Rob is teasing Steve for his roving eye for women, while Steve gets him back since he’s found more fame and success in his career.
These aren’t documentaries, though, and Winterbottom includes a few scripted scenes to tie things together. We even get an arty black and white dream sequence dealing with Steve’s dying father, and these all offer good opportunities for Coogan and Brydon to show off their dramatic acting chops, which is another topic of dissension.
What’s nice is that The Trip to Greece works well as a standalone film even if you haven’t seen the previous three films. If you have seen the previous “Trip” movies, you may already know what to expect. If you’re a fan, you’ll already know that spending time with these two hilarious guys is a perfectly fine alternative for being able to go on trips yourself.
The Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo’s new movie, MILITARY WIVES (Bleecker Street), is another movie I saw right before the NYC movie theater lockdown, when it was supposed to be released in mid-March. Bleecker Street has finally decided to give the movie a digital release, although maybe it’ll get into some of those newly-opened drive ins where it would play beautifully. As the title suggests, it takes place on a British military base where a group of wives, including Kristin Scott Thomas’ Kate, come together to form a recreational chorus to have fun and get their minds off their spouses at war. Kate is a type-A control freak, so she is immediately at odds with Sharon Horgan’s Lisa, who is more popular among the wives.
Going into this movie knowing that it’s based on a real story about wives who formed a singing group and knowing that this is directed by the guy behind The Full Monty may be all you need to know about what is generally a cutesie dramedy where a wide variety of group of women get together to support each other with all sorts of ups and downs. Listen, this isn’t exactly redefining the wheel other than this being a younger group of women than, say, Calendar Girls, but it’s in the same vein. This is basically a feel-good movie with a last act that gets a little corny, but it’s otherwise a wonderful story and Thomas leads a strong cast of women, joined by Greg Wise as her husband and Jason Flemyng as the officer in charge of the base.
This isn’t a terrible movie, and even though the last act starts to get corny as the women prepare for an Albert Hall performance, the film is otherwise a wonderful film full of emotions that only true curmudgeons would feel like their time was wasted by watching it. Bleecker Street will now release Military Wives on Hulu and digital just in time for Memorial Day weekend, which actually may have been more appropriate than its original March date.
The suspense thriller INHERITANCE (Vertical), directed by Vaughn Stein (Terminal) revolves around a wealthy and powerful Monroe family whose patriarch suddenly dies, leaving his daughter Lauren (Lily Collins) and wife (Connie Nielsen) with a shocking secret inheritance that could unravel their lives. I won’t say much about the secret, but it involves an almost unrecognizable Simon Pegg, spending much of his time in the dark with an American accent and giving a very different performance than we’ve seen from him.
I’m a big fan of Lily Collins as an actor, and I’m all for actors trying to stretch out a bit with their roles, but I’m not sure she was well-suited to play District Attorney Lauren Monroe, which may have worked better with an older actor. Although Collins is in her early ‘30s, she still looks very young, and because of that, it’s hard to believe her already being the D.A. (something which would generally take a dozen or more years as an attorney, one would expect). Pegg isn’t much better, and maybe because he too is trying something different from the norm. Since the majority of the movie is just the two actors, it involves as lot of over-emoting to creating dramatic fireworks that never fully arrive. Collins in particular tends to go over with every emotion in a performance that desperately needed to be scaled back. The rest of the cast is just okay with Nielsen having an even smaller part than Patrick Warburton -- an odd casting choice as Lauren’s father -- who dies as the film begins. Chace Crawford plays Lauren’s brother who is running for office, a subplot that add so little to the mix, except to try and create more tension.
I haven’t gotten around to seeing HBO’s Succession to know if there are any similarities in terms of its exploration of dark family secrets, but Inheritance is just not very good or interesting. The writing (by Matthew Kennedy) is weak, a bit like a bad television drama, in fact, and the severe miscasting just makes it harder for anyone to deliver on the material. Realizing this, Stein overpowers every scene with overdramatic score that makes it even harder to appreciate the actors’ efforts. In some ways, Inheritance reminded me of the recent Human Capital, which was generally a better film with a stronger story, but Stein’s inspiration clearly comes from all those ‘80s and ‘90s thrillers that try to keep the viewer on the edge of their seats. Like David Tennant’s Bad Samaritan a few years back, this one fails to get the viewer even remotely excited. (The movie was also valid proof of why I hate watching movies on my computer since most of the scenes are so dark, it’s hard to really get much out of it.) Inheritance has been playing on DirecTV since April 23, but it will be available On Demand and Digitally this Friday.
Paramount Players is the latest studio to go the VOD route with the found footage supernatural thriller, BODY CAM (Paramount Players), directed by Malik Vitthal (Netflix’s Imperial Dreams) and starring Mary J. Blige, Nat Wolff, Theo Rossi and more. It involves a routine traffic stop by police officers that leads to the grisly death of one of them, and the surviving officer (Mary J. Blige) realizing that the victim’s body cam footage may be able to show what really happened as she tries to understand the supernatural force behind a series of murders. Sadly, Paramount Players wouldn’t supply critics with early screeners to watch and review, so I may have to wait for one of my colleagues to shell out the bucks.
A movie I saw at least year’s Tribeca that will be available digitally this week is Sasie Sealy’s LUCKY GRANDMA (Good Deeds Entertainment), starring Tsai Chin as a recently-widowed and quite ornery 80-year-old Chinatown resident who goes to see a fortune teller who tells her she is going to have a very lucky day. Of course, she takes that as advice to go to Atlantic City where she wins big, but it’s her trip on the bus back where she gets lucky when a man with a bag full of cash dies. Grandma’s newfound bag of cash ends up attracting the attention of local gangsters, so to protect herself, she hires a rival gangster as her bodyguard. This is a really fun movie that I probably before I saw my #1 movie of 2019, The Farewell, and it’s only similar in that it involves a lovable Chinese grandma, and it mostly takes place in and around Chinatown in New York, but Sealy has a filmmaking style more in the vein of a Tarantino or even the Safdie Brothers where it really pushes the genre aspects of the story with the music choices, which are particularly fantastic. But really, it’s the amazing character created by Sealy with Tsai Chin that makes the movie so entertaining. I’m so glad that this is finally being released so more people can see it since it was such a popular but underseen movie at Tribeca last year.
Another film to look out for this weekend is Benjamin Ree’s documentary THE PAINTER AND THE THIEF (NEON), which won an award at the Sundance Film Festival. It’s the story of Czech artist Barbara Kysilkova, who has two paintings stolen by Karl-Bertil Nordland, but when she seeks out the thief, she ends up befriending him and asking him to sit for a portrait as a bond is formed between these unlikely people. It will also be available on Hulu, VOD, on various Virtual Cinema platforms AND at select drive-ins starting this Friday.
Also on digital this week is Philip (Boiling Point) Barantini’s action-thriller VILLAIN (Saban Films), starring Craig Fairbrass as ex-con Eddie Franks, who is trying to start a new life after leaving prison. He soon finds that impossible when he learns his brother owes a large amount of money to a dangerous drug lord, so Eddie has to return to that life of crime in order to help him.
FilmLinc’s Virtual series continues this week with a combination of new and repertory films, including Bruno Dumont’s Joan of Arc/Jeanne (KimStim), a sequel to Dumont’s 2017 musical, Jeanette: The Childhood of Joan of Arc. This one, which premiered as a selection in this year’s cut-short “Rendezvous with French Cinema,” stars ten-year-old Leplat Prudhomme, and it will get a one-week exclusive rental with 50% of its $10 rental to go to FilmLinc. Also this week, the venue’s Virtual series will include Raúl Ruiz’s 2010 film Mysteries of Lisbon, an HD premiere that includes new footage.
As mentioned last month, the docuseries, Time Warp: The Greatest Cult Films of All Time (Quiver Distribution), will continue this week with Volume 2: Horror and Sci-Fi, which is available right now on digital, On Demand, and while I haven’t watched this episode yet, if it’s even remotely as good as Vol. 1, this will be a must-see.
STREAMING AND CABLE
Paramount has another planned release going to streaming, and in this case, it’s Michael Showalter’s THE LOVEBIRDS, reuniting him with The Big Sick co-writer/star Kumail Nanjiani and pairing him with Issa Rae from HBO’s Insecure. Despite the title, the googly-eyed love between Nanjiani’s Jibran and Rae’s Leilani only lasts a few minutes before the film cuts forward after they’d been together for a few years, and things aren’t as copacetic. They are close to breaking up, but on a trip to their last party together, the couple’s car is hijacked by someone who claims to be a cop and is chasing a guy on a bicycle. When the carjacker kills said cyclist, Jibran and Leilani realize that they may not have been helping the good guy. They’re soon sent on a trip through an underground world of crime and conspiracy to clear their names since they feel as if they’re the primary suspects in the murder.
I actually was looking forward to The Lovebirds after seeing its first trailer at CinemaCon last year. I generally like Nanjiani and really wanted him to bounce back from last year’s Stuber, which was pretty disappointing. Teaming him Rae seems to have done the trick since they’re both funny in their own right, but then they have former “The State” and “Stella” member Showalter at the helm, and he’s proven with his growing filmography as a director that he’s good at mixing laughs and even going fully R-rated when necessary. While the trip the duo takes isn’t particularly enlightening or different from other “buddy action comedies” (other than bringing together their own comic sensibilities), it all leads up to quite an amusing Eyes Wide Shut parody before its semi-obvious climax and endings.
Sure, some of the funniest bits of The Lovebirds were in the trailer, and some moments are downright corny, because you generally can figure out where it’s going. I did prefer this more comedic take on the premise that was slightly similar to last year’s Queen and Slim, and the combination of Showalter, Nanjiani and Rae allows the movie to go to newer comedic territory than we’ve seen from any of them.
In other words, this is still far better than Stuber and a lot of the Adam Sandler comedies produced by Netflix, so the streaming network kind of lucked out by having the opportunity to stream this semi-decent comedy, which more people are likely to see on the streaming service than they would have in theaters.
Next week, more movies not in theaters!
By the way, if you read this week’s column and have bothered to read this far down, feel free to drop me some thoughts at Edward dot Douglas at Gmail dot Com or drop me a note or tweet on Twitter. I love hearing from readers … honest!

D23 Marvel News: Every MCU Reveal From Marvel Studios
Marvel Studios had a strong presence at this year's D23, and dropped news on everything from Black Panther 2 to Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Moon Knight Disney+ TV shows. D23 is the official Disney fan club, with the name referencing the year 1923, when the company was founded. Every two years, the House of Mouse hold a convention to celebrate their upcoming projects; it essentially serves as a mini-Comic-Con dedicated just to Disney properties.
This year's D23 fan expo was a particularly important one for Disney. On the one hand, this was Disney's biggest opportunity to market the Disney+ streaming service, launches in November. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios needed the chance to reset the narrative after a torrid week in the press, given the collapse of the Spider-Man deal with Sony.

Marvel rose to the occasion. They had a strong presence at D23 2019, with a wide array of breaking news that included release dates, new show announcements, casting details, and exclusive footage. Here's our round-up of all the biggest news.
One of the biggest pieces of news over the weekend was that Black Panther 2 will release on May 6, 2020, with Ryan Coogler returning as both writer and director. A sequel was always inevitable; the first Black Panther was a cultural milestone, and grossed over $1.3 billion at the global box office. This fits with Martin Freeman's recent comment that Black Panther 2 will begin filming in 2021. Marvel chose to avoid announcing the movie's official title at this stage, holding that back for a later time.
At SDCC, Marvel Studios announced a slate of TV shows that would be exclusively available on the Disney+ streaming service. But it turned out they'd held the best till D23 - with Marvel revealing that their Phase 4 slate also includes three more shows. Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk will all be coming to the MCU - and according to Marvel, these characters are destined to transition from the small screen to the movies themselves. The Ms. Marvel series will be helmed by Bisha K. Ali, and it's reasonable to assume Marvel has also chosen showrunners for Moon Knight and She-Hulk. They just aren't ready to announce those yet.
Game of Thrones' Kit Harington has been cast to type as the MCU's Black Knight. In the comics, Dane Whitman is the bearer of the mystical Ebony Blade, a sword that grants him supernatural abilities but also has an insatiable bloodlust. Marvel's Kevin Feige confirmed that the Black Knight will make his MCU debut in The Eternals, although Harington didn't take to the stage with the rest of the cast.

The stars of The Eternals took to the stage, and Marvel used the opportunity to reveal two specific casting choices. Gemma Chan is playing Sersi, and Barry Keoghan is Druig. These are two particularly interesting choices; Sersi is generally the leading character in the Eternals, so this may be a starring role. Druig, meanwhile, is traditionally treated as a rogue Eternal. He took on a position of power in the fictional country of Vorozheika, and sought to use his psychic abilities to take control of the Eternals as well.
Marvel revealed concept art for The Eternals, showing ten characters in costume. It's worth remembering that this is just concept art, meaning the finished looks could be different. What's more, the Eternals are a civilization of immortal beings, so these outfits could just be some of the clothes they were. Interestingly, although there had been initial reports that The Eternals would be strongly influenced by the original Jack Kirby comics, but these designs are more like the Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr. run from 2006.
Marvel Studios offered D23 attendees a new look at next year's Black Widow movie, introduced by Scarlett Johansson wearing an all-white costume that seems to be designed for a snowy environment. It hasn't been released online, but the standout scenes featured David Harbour's Red Guardian suiting up. He was shown working with both Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova, with a telling line about family getting back together again; this suggests the characters' comic book origin has been rewritten in some way. The footage moved to an action sequence in which Yelena and Natasha traded banter. It ended with Black Widow in the white costume, engaged in battle against Taskmaster. The villain was still in full costume with a mask, meaning their identity is still unknown.
Wyatt Russell has been cast John Walker, aka US Agent, who will make his MCU debut in The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. In the comics, Walker was the US Government's choice as the next Captain America, but he ultimately suffered a mental breakdown and went rogue until Steve Rogers took the shield back. Walker objected vehemently to Sam Wilson's politically-charged stint as Captain America, and even attempted to beat him down and reclaim the shield. This news strongly hints at the overarching plot of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, which will presumably be about how Sam Wilson comes to earn the shield in the eyes of both the US Government and the public.

Kat Dennings' Darcy Lewis and Randall Park's Jimmy Woo will return in the WandaVision TV series. Darcy was last seen in 2013's Thor: The Dark World, when she was still interning with Jane Foster, but she's since appeared in the official tie-in novel The Cosmic Quest Volume II: Aftermath, where she became a lobbyist for the scientific foundation run by Erik Selvig. Jimmy Woo, meanwhile, has only ever appeared in Ant-Man & the Wasp, where he was a Federal agent who persecuted Hank Pym. It's impossible to say how these two characters fit into WandaVision, which Marvel described as "half classic sitcom, half MCU spectacular."
Dennings and Park aren't the only MCU stalwarts to be returning; Emily VanCamp will be reprising the role of Sharon Carter in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. This will be Sharon Carter's first appearance in the MCU since Captain America: Civil War, when her character shared a lip-lock with Steve Rogers himself.
Marvel's What If...? will explore alternate versions of the MCU, with the film stars themselves acting as the voice-cast. One of the most exciting ideas is an alternate timeline where Peggy Carter was the one who took the super-soldier serum, and Marvel released an image showing her wearing a gender-swapped version of the Captain America (or is she Captain Britain?) costume. Footage shown exclusively at D23 also included a shot of a zombie Captain America fighting the Winter Soldier in a subway, and a first look at the Watcher.
Marvel announced that Kate Herron (Sex Education) had signed up as director of the Loki TV series. It was another surprising choice, given Herron has never tackled anything on this scale before. She's best known for her comedies, so it suggests Loki could have a distinctly humorous edge.
