This mural by Shark Toof was created for the 2015 edition of the SHINE Mural Festival in St. Pete, Florida.

About the mural from the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance website–

The artist hails from Los Angeles and is known around the world for his iconic shark illustrations. Although the shark’s reputation is fearsome, Shark Toof uses the image of a shark to give strength, optimism and possibility to the viewer. He sees the shark as a voice of rebellion, and a conduit for the unheard. At the artist’s request, the wall was painted red before he got to St. Pete. Even so, the mural took four days and almost one hundred cans of aerosol paint – and it was a challenge because of wires and the architectural details of the wall. When the painting was done, the artist stepped into the doorway on the bottom right, closed the iron grate and said, “See? Now I’m in a shark cage!”

i'd like to think that rusalka biology is a little like sharks wherein they kinda regularly shed and can easily regrow their teeth. which brings us to vila who has inherited this trait and just. kinda pops out her teeth every once in a while.

for the longest time she was ashamed of the whole thing and would try and discard the teeth as discreetly as possible but upon getting into rayashki the townsfolk help her shed the negative bias to a point that she sometimes gives them away to the people she really likes (which. pretty much a lot if not all of them) as little trinkets.

which brings us to a situation where one day vila randomly feels a tooth coming loose so she pulls it off and casually offers it to windsong in the middle of the rayashki cafeteria.

in a collective moment to tease the shit outta the two because of whatever thing that's been brewing between them, everyone there acts like vila dropped down to a knee and proposed to her lmfao

do you have any headcanons behind Fabian (and I assume adaine?) having sharp teeth or is it more of a “tee hee fun design?”

WELL it definitely started as a "tee hee fun design" thing i cn tell you that much.. but it kind of evolved into giving elves a lot of catlike traits, i havent drawn a fullbody of fabian yet but i really want to give him a fluffy cat tail. maybe he has little peets who knows (i know & the answer is yes)

for the teeth specifically i thought it would be cool for fabian to have shark-like teeth bcs pirate = ocean = shark, also seems like the kind of thing bill seacaster would have. because its bill seacaster and he can do what he wants im still working on my adaine design but she has sharp teeth too yea :) more of fangs than shark teeth but toofs nonetheless
