Israeli airstrike on Rafah refugee camp in Gaza kills boy, 4, and his sister, 2

Rafah CNN  — An Israeli airstrike on Al-Shaboura refugee camp in southern Gaza’s Rafah city late Tuesday killed two young children and injured several other people, according to the Palestinian Civil Defense in Gaza and the Kuwait Hospital in Rafah. Several people injured in the strike were brought to the medical facility just before midnight including a 4-year-old boy named Kareem Jarada and his 2-year-old sister Mona Jarada. The Kuwait Hospital said the two infants were declared dead by medics shortly after they had arrived. Video obtained by CNN shows people in bloodied clothes being pulled out of civilian cars and rushed into the hospital. Other videos show some injured people being taken out of ambulances marked with the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) symbol into the hospital on stretcher beds. Another video obtained by CNN from inside the hospital shows a doctor trying to treat Mona’s injuries. Her body appears to be covered in blood splatters with her left eye severely wounded. Her head and right leg are covered in bandages. Video shot by a journalist working for CNN in the Kuwait Hospital courtyard shows a single small body bag with the bodies of both siblings inside it and their names written in marker on the outside and their date of death – April 30 Four men are seen praying over the body bag, as the children’s grandmother Um Rami Abu-Shalab crouches over, crying. She is seen opening the bag and looking at her grandchildren, saying: “they are going to heaven.” The two lifeless heads of the children look bloodied and discolored. “Every time I saw her eyes, I’d say she has eyes like a deer’s…God give your mother strength. God rest your souls my grandchildren,” she says while sobbing. Um Rami told CNN she spoke to her daughter on Tuesday after sunset, when she told her she put her kids to bed after they played with the neighbors and had dinner. “She put them to bed and then the treacherous ones came…God will punish them,” she said. Pointing at the body bag, Um Rami told CNN they were her first and only grandchildren, calling them her “first joy”. She said their parents were injured in the airstrike and are now “between life and death.” “We are going to bury them without their parents and without most of their loved ones, because they were either injured in the attack or displaced in different areas of Gaza,” she said. Um Rami told CNN the family has been displaced multiple times by the Israeli military, but that it didn’t matter because “this is all they want, this is their goal,” she said, pointing at her dead grandchildren. The children’s aunt, Maram Abu-Shalab told CNN from the hospital that the Israeli military struck the home her sister and her family were sheltering in without giving a warning. “We’re still in a state of shock. What is one supposed to say? They are innocent. The babies went to bed last night, and they never woke up. They went to God…this heartbreak will stay with us forever,” she said. Unable to hold back tears, she told CNN that Palestinian blood has been flowing like a “waterfall that hasn’t stopped” since October 7, when Israel launched its war on Hamas following an attack by the terror group that killed more than 1,200 people. Israel’s subsequent devastating assault in the Palestinian enclave has killed more than 34,000 people, according to the Palestinian health ministry. “I didn’t even have time to enjoy being called an aunt,” said Abu-Shalab. “They didn’t even have time to grow. They were so young…we are all so sad…there is nothing harder than the devastation of death, and the death of children,” she said.

Set ablaze by accused, Unnao rape survivor with 90% burns, being treated at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital - india news

A 24-year-old rape survivor from UP’s Unnao, who was set on fire by five men including two accused, is being treated in Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital after she was airlifted from Lucknow on Thursday evening, officials said.A “green corridor” was provided by the Delhi Police to ensure hindrance-free movement of the ambulance that carried her from the airport to the hospital. The 13-kilometre distance was covered in 18 minutes, a release by the Delhi Police said.The woman suffered 90% burns, according to doctors. “We have set up a dedicated ICU room for the patient. A team of doctors would be monitoring her health condition,” Dr Sunil Gupta, Medical Superintendent at Safdarjung Hospital, told PTI.She will be under the observation of Dr Shalab Kumar, Head of Burn and Plastic Surgery at the hospital.The woman was on her way to the Baiswara Bihar railway station to catch an early morning train to Rae Bareli for a court hearing on Thursday when she was stopped by the accused at 4.30 am, said superintendent of police, Unnao, Vikrant Veer. She told the subdivisional magistrate (SDM) Daya Shankar Pathak at the Unnao district hospital that the men accosted her at Gaura crossing and asked her to withdraw the case. When she refused, they first hit her on the head and attacked her with a knife and as she fell, they poured petrol and set her on fire. The police was informed about the incident by some locals who saw the rape survivor, covered in flames, ran for a kilometre pleading with people for help. All the five men named by the woman were arrested after the incident. CNN series with Reza Aslan slammed for ‘offensive’ portrayal of Hinduism

Reza Aslan is an Iranian-American author, religious scholar and television host.

CNN’s newest original series Believer With Reza Aslan, which premiered Sunday, has been termed “callous,” “reckless,” “disgusting” and other such uncharitable things.

Social commentators have raised concerns over the show’s impact at a time when the U.S. is infested with fears about the “outsider.”

Here’s what happened.

The first episode of Believer takes host Reza Aslan to Varanasi, also known as the city of dead, in northern India. It explores the Aghori sect of Hinduism which is known for its extreme, almost cannibalistic, rituals.

It shows Aslan hanging out with bare-bodied sadhus on the ghats (riverbanks) of Varanasi and attempting to blend in.

He allows an Aghori guru to smear the ashes of cremated humans on hisface; he even drinks alcohol from a human skull and eats what is likely to be a bit of human brain.

At one point in the show, a cannibal threatens Aslan: I will cut off your head if you keep talking so much.

The host turns to his director and says: I feel like this may havebeen a mistake.

And when the guru begins to eat his own waste and hurls it at Aslan and his crew, they sprint in the opposite direction.

But not before Aslan snarks: I’m pretty sure that’s not the Aghori I was looking for.”

Though the episode also sheds light on several non-cannibal Aghori practitioners, CNN has been lambasted for inordinate focus on the flesh-eating sadhus.

It is unbelievably callous and reckless of CNN to be pushing sensational and grotesque images of bearded brown men and their morbid and deathly religion at a time when the United States is living through a period of unprecedented concern and fear, Vamsee Juluri, a media studies professor at the University of San Francisco, wrote in the Huffington Post.

Shalab Kumar, an Indian American who is a public speaker and philanthropist, also described the show as a disgusting attack on Hinduism and called for a “boycott” of CNN.

Even the U.S. India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) has said that the show would add more misrepresentation, bias and may lead to more hate crimes. An Indian immigrant was recently shot dead in a Kansas pub.

In a statement toThe Indian Express, USINPAC chairman, Sanjay Puri, said: In a charged environment, a show like this can create a perception about Indian Americans which could make them more vulnerable to further attacks.”

Indians on social media teared into Rezlan and CNN.

After the backlash, Rezlan put up an elaborate post on Facebook stating: “In the case of the episode on the Aghor which, as I repeatedly state on camera and in voice-over, are not representative of Hinduism…”

However, Indian Americans continue to condemn the show.

Ajay Shah, Convenor, American Hindus Against Defamation, said in a statement, The six-part CNN series, Believer with Reza Aslan, purports to demystify some of the world religions, however, from the promotional material and review articles about the show, it is clear that the show paints Hindu dharma (spiritual, religion and cultural tradition) by accentuating a lesser understood, tiny sect of a faith that count seventy ascetics among a one and a quarter billion adherents, whose mainstream practices and philosophical underpinnings have flourished for thousands of years.
