Little off-work doodle of the three main superhero boys I draw from time to time with a short description of em each!

Shadowshade: big buff whiteboy in black-and-gold. Like the name suggests he has umbrakinesis. He’s Bisexual with a capital B and catholic with a lowercase c. Thinks Felicitas is annoying (and hot) and is always having to help his ass out one way or the other. Classic hero.

Felicitas: twink-adjacent straight boy who wears too little clothing and too much hair product. Has seven rescue cats and lives alone.Will fight god. No real superpowers, but he’s being very brave about it (read: he’s Definitely going to get himself killed one of these days fistfighting a god). Wants to find a good reason to sort Air the FUCK OUT. Hero with a team.

Air: gay gay homosexual gay cyborg from an alternate hellhole universe. at home, he’s a villain, and he doesn’t get why people think he’s a hero here. Was a freedom fighter, and is not so sure about the main universe... why do they keep calling his world the ‘alt-world’? Thinks Shadowshade is hot but will not hesitate to kick his ass SO FUCKING HARD. Actually is waiting for an excuse. Anti-hero.

And yes they are exactly as judgmental as they look. My superhero boys need to give it a rest with the mean girls shit.

Lynx Reads DotC - Sun Trail 1

I’m bored so I’m just gonna talk about the books I read when I was 14-15. Let’s go.

Let’s see how Dawn of the Clans holds up to my evolved tastes.

So I just learned recently that “she-cat” isn’t even a real term for female cats. “Molly” is more accurate... And now I’m going to be distracted by the many, many uses of “she-cat”. Thank you, Erins.

Good to see Half Moon again.

Silver Frost’s right, Gray Wing, that’s a cute tail to chase.

But on the other hand, please don’t. The fact that there’s almost fifty adult cats running around in the modern era (as opposed to twenty-something in Into the Wild) is because the cats are breeding faster than they’re dying. Besides, your food shortage problem is because of overpopulation!

Seeing Dappled Pelt get excited over squirrels is both amusing and heartbreaking.

Clear Sky, trying to convince his wife to go: I don’t want to survive! I want to live!

I think the whole conflict of Gray Wing choosing to go down the Sun Trail is dampened by the fact I know he does go. That, or the writing isn’t that great in this scene. I’m not sure.

I see a potential in Bright Stream. A potential of a character. She seems somewhat observant and level-headed and a tad nervous of the unknown. I like it.

OOH OOH OKAY, LET’S SEE WHAT WE CAN DO HERE WITH TRADITIONAL NAMES.

Tall Shadow has “stalking and guile”. She could be a -shade in my own system, but Shadowshade is kinda redundant. And then there’s Shadeshade. Nope. Maybe Darkshade, Shadowpad, or Shadepad? That could work. Since stealth isn’t a covered skill in the strictest sense of traditionalism, she’d just be Shadowfur or Shadepelt.

Clear Sky has “a gift for bringing down birds from the air”, so he’s likely a -whisker. Consider his cloud-like appearance, he could be Cloudwhisker!

Turtle Tail has “speed and sharp eyes” so either -foot or -nose for her. Her tortie and white appearance implies something like Skipperfoot or Coppernose.

Rainswept Flower has “the ability to track far-off prey by scent alone”. If that ain’t a -nose, idk what is. Considering she’s named after a plant, maybe something like Briarnose? Maybe Reednose for the aquatic element?

Also, you missed Moon Shadow, Bright Stream, Shaded Moss, Quick Water, Cloud Spots, Dappled Pelt, Hawk Swoop, Jackdaw’s Cry, Falling Feather, and Shattered Ice. I may get to them once I get a better feel for them.

'Dead Jack and the Pandemonium Device' Book Review By Ron Fortier

DEAD JACK and the Pandemonium Device

By James Aquilone Homunculus House 206 pgs

Every now and then we are introduced to new writer who proves New Pulp fiction is alive and well. Such a writer is James Aquilone and his first novel is a rollicking trip down weird twisted roads unlike anything we’ve ever encountered before. Aquilone has created a madcap world where all manner of bizarre creatures of fantasy exist side-by-side in mirror-like reflection of our own staid and recognizable reality. The world is called Pandemonium and it has five cities; ShadowShade, The Red Garden, Monster Island, Witch End and The Broken Lands. All of them situated in the Broken Sea.

But before we get too far into all this, let’s explain the origin of Pandemonium. During World War II the Nazis recruited three of the greatest wizards of our world to aid them in winning world war. Unfortunately one of these three attempted to betray the other two and in the ensuing conflict a rift was opened into another dimension. The renegade wizard, along with lots of other innocent folks was thrown into this alternate existence that is Pandemonium.

One of these unlucky chaps was a dead private eye named Jack and upon arrival into his new crazy world, he became an animated zombie. Thus it was only natural, or should we say unnatural, that he soon became Dead Jack, the best private detective in ShadowShade. Along with Lilith, his ghost secretary, Dead Jack has a mini-sidekick named Oswald. Oswald is a homunculus which Webster’s Dictionary defines as “a little man, dwarf, manikin.” Imagine the Pillsbury dough boy brought to life with the ability to change his shape at will and that’s Oswald, though a little less cute and a whole lot weirder.

Now Dead Jack does his back to live harmoniously with his fellow denizens and that means keeping his zombie eating habits under control. He does this by ingesting pixie dust, Pandemonium’s version of our own opiates. As the story opens, poor Jack slips and eats a thuggish leprechaun thus forcing him to feel his victim’s angry clan. He and Oswald end up in the hands of the Goblin Queen who is in need of Jack’s services. Unknown forces have kidnapped 52 of Her Majesty’s beloved black cats and she hires the pair to find and return her feline pets.

Why would anyone in Pandemonium steal 52 cats? As Jack and Oswald investigate they slowly begin to fathom a much more dangerous conspiracy at work; one that could bring about the total destruction of Pandemonium and all its inhabitants. But can this inept duo solve the puzzle in time, unmask the real villain and save their eerie-wacky world? Writer James Aquilone doesn’t spare a pun or warped joke along the way as he puts his really charming dead hero through his paces in one of the most enjoyable adventures we’ve ever read.

“Dead Jack and the Pandemonium Device,” is an original romp that never lets up from start to finish. And if that weren’t enough, there’s the bonus of two extra features at the back of the book. We’d also be remiss in not applauding the book’s design, the gorgeous cover by Colton Worley. Then, unlike most New Pulp publishers, we’re offered two beautiful interior illustrations by artist Ed Watson. Our only gripe – why just two? This book begged for more.

Final thoughts, James Aquilone is a new voice in the New Pulp community. One you need to support big time!

Moonpaws: you've fallen in my trap!!! Let the moon consume you in its eternal darkness. Moon light ray!!! *body turns white and flies at the prince faster than light speed, hits the prince and bets him up

Shadow dragon knight: Shadowsteam!!! *takes off royal dragon armor

Shadowsteam: *puts on armor* time to destruction!!! *The air around him intensely increase in pressure* ahhh!!!

Nightstorm: Moonpaws i better take this one *lands on ground and jumps back up to Prince* nightshade consume!!! *punches the armor and nothing happens

Shadowsteam: hahaha no light spells can brake my royal dragon armor.

The two cats lands on one cliff the other side another cliff where Shadowsteam the prince and his his royal knight lands.

Nightstorm: i don't do light spells.

The royal armor brakes.

Shadowsteam: h... how fid you destroy an armor that was made from a thousand dragon souls...

Nightstorm: I use black magic n night shade eats all dark energy and gives it to me. Thanks for that dinner. Shadow dragon cat mode!!! *scales grow a little, wings rips out, dark energy flows through her vains* better run!!! Shadow dragon overload!!! *flies at the prince and punches

Shadowshade: *blocks attacks* not touching me one bit

royal knight: *charger at Moonpaws

Moonpaws: *jumps* moon light ambush!!! *takes out staff and shoots rays of lights at the royal knight

royal knight: *scales brakes off* royal dark dragon breathe!!! *inhale the exhale and shoots a burning dark fire at Moonpaws

Moonpaws: moon Queen activate!!!!! *Intense energy waves explodes from Moonpaws* one may hide in darkness but adores the light!!! Moon cat god assemble!!! *The staff flies around, then double, then triple, then quadruple, then penta, then hexa, then octo, then 9, and then ten* the ten staff is showed!!! Your fate is chosen!!! The ten staff of elements!!! *Staffs spins and then goes around her* fire fist *fire staff turns into gomlet and goes on her paw* air wings *air staff turns to wings and goes on her back* water mask *water staff turns into mask and she puts it on* grass chest plate *grass staff turns into a chest plate and goes on her chest* I don't need all to finish you so at last solar and luner staff emurge *the two staffs combies and becomes the moon light or sun night Ray staff* staff burn up that soul!!! *Swings staff and points it at the Royal kight and a very strong beam wipes him from the face of the Dragon realm, coughs* I need to rest *finds a wall and lean on it

“Isolation” One of my oldest ocs, and also my oldest remaining superhero oc, Shadowshade is basically a comfort character at this point. He’s been through the wringer, and will keep getting chaos happen to him because he’s one of my creations... but he’s a good dude despite his scary shadow powers. Shame he doesn’t have many allies most of the time, because he doesn’t even like working alone all that much (but it makes things easier and means when he has mental illness episodes, there are fewer people getting hurt)
