I got really excited when I read this post where @snowssims explained how to extract The Sims 2 .xa audio files.
The problem is, sound files lack description and there are hundreds of those :/. I started with SFX1.package and I intend to plough through that because I NEED to get rid of barking dog environment sounds (if you manage to find it, let me know!).
While browsing for it I've found bed woohoo sfx and replaced it right away - I might as well share.
💕🎵🚫
No Bed Woohoo Cutscene Music
Download (SFS)
*This will replace bed woohoo cutscene music/sfx with another ALMOST silent ts2 audio file that I've found in game files. Please note there's a single very quiet muffled sound at the beginning.
*Not sure if it will work in every TS2 game.
I still have no idea how to replace game sound files with brand new mp3 files - SimPe gives me errors when I try to do this. Apparently FFmpeg can open/convert audio to .xa format (??) but it requires some extra steps to make it work on Win10 and I didn't get through that part yet. Apparently it's easier to run it on Linux.
I went through around 100 TS2 audio files inside Sfx1.package by now - I sorted resources by size and started from the largest. If you intend to find particular music files I recommend this method.
There are loads, LOADS of car and water sounds for some reason. Lots of almost silent files as well. Most audio files seem to be 6 sec long or shorter.

so i fixed up this vintage sampling synthesizer and was looking through a patch library I downloaded for it. I found a patch that was called
SOUND EFFECTS (screams, moans, racecar)
I figured it would be more than just those sounds and that they chose a few sounds to name it after since it would be easier to identify than just ‘SFX1’ or something?
nah. it’s screams, moans, and racecar. that’s all there is. that’s all you need.

@andrevasims Okay hi I immediately got bothered by this when I saw it cuz I had to know the answer to this myself lol
so first I found a YT video that has short loops of all the DJ booth music all together, now the description for the video mentions that all the audio was found in the 'Sfx1.package' (presumably in nightlifes files) and that they converted it from .XA format by using a tool on Modthesims, which I found here!
Now there's like... almost 500 audio files in the sfx1 package so I haven't found the right file yet, but the program seems to work fine still. As it says in the description on mts, SimPE incorrectly regonises and extracts the XA audio as an MP3, so in order to convert it back into a listenable state, all you need to do is edit the file extension back to .xa and the program will recognise it and you can convert it to .WAV
The random audio file I tested it on appears to be maybe the sfx for when sims are playing with their chips at the card table? lol
EDIT: Okay the video I mentioned, I shoulda linked it lol HERE is the video I mentioned that mentions how to extract the music, it appears the description has a link to pre-converted songs if you want to try that instead.
As for trying to do it myself I've managed to find one song so far, one thing I'd be interested to see extracted, other than DJ booth music, is the dancing snowman stereo. The Origin/ Ultimate Collection version of the game has different tracks for the snowman. The disc install appears to have... car horn Jingle Bells lol but that appears to not be present in the origin version so I'm wondering if they removed it or what...
Oh what, THAT'S what it's for? This whole time I assumed "house" was referring to the music genre, instead of like "the house," ie you the player choosing the songs. Even though it doesn't play house music.
I'd really love to have MP3s of the music that comes out of DJ booths, but they're directly coded into the object itself and the audio is saved in a format that can't be extracted or converted into a listenable version. But every time I've tried looking up if it's possible to extract them, I saw people saying that the random songs in the "House Mix" game music folders were what I was looking for, even though I haven't actually heard 99% of those songs while playing.
Like this simlish version of Summer Lovin' (not the Grease one) by Musikk & John Rock, I've literally never heard that song come out of a DJ booth playing "House Mix" - Or any of the other ones with vocals from the same folder(s), because even when I have had that House Mix playing in the game, none of the songs had any singing.
So.......???? lol
#OH and I forgot to mention apparently the audio are super short#loops like 30 to 50 secs#actually for the snowman none of the songs appear to be the same#between originUC and disk install#car horn jingle bells stood out tho bc it's in LGRs video for that pack#but I NEVER heard it when using that snowman stereo#of all the things to change lol....

I did some volume automation during the middle of the piece over the whirling SFX (Aka SFX1) as it seemed too overpowering in the quieter midsection

That's nice someone has done the work to find them & shared it, last time I looked into doing it myself was before this video was made, but I got as far as trying to isolate audio files taken from Sfx1.package and only getting really loud static.
