Video Game Track Bracket Round 3
Smell of the Game from Guilty Gear Strive
youtube
vs.
Guile's Theme from Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
youtube
Propaganda under the cut. If you want your propaganda reblogged and added to future polls, please tag it as propaganda or otherwise indicate this!
Smell of the Game:
Sometimes Daisuke Ishiwatari writes a song so incredible he proceeds to build an entire fighting game around it.
Guile's Theme:
You do not know the LENGTHS I went to verify which version of Guile's Theme this is. I literally thought this was some midi cover made by some dude but then I saw this was actually the snes version. But I was like "hmmm the snes version sounds a bit different tho" then I realized that the different versions of street fighter II uses different sound fonts or instruments or whatever. You might be thinking "didnt we already establish that there are different versions of sf2?" ohohohoho I'm not talking about the different console versions no no. I'm talking about shit like super street fighter II turbo or street fight II champion addition, the different versions that were released on the same fucking systems. There are FOUR different versions of street fighter II just on the snes and the arcade version has six! Anyways this is the Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers on the snes released in Japan on June 25, 1994 version goddamnit. The shit I do just to fact check a song that's been meme'd to hell and back.

All right I don’t know if it was a financially smart decision but I bought SFV on sale pretty much exclusively for Laura the way I bought GGST for Giovanna (these Brazilian chicks make me feel some kinda way I guess). I also love Chun Li and Poison so they’re additional incentives to keep playing.
But so far I pretty much prefer every single aspect of GG to SF. The art style, the character design (some of them range from boring to ugly in SF), the graphics themselves (a lot of the SF characters look like clay models in the 3D games to me), the movesets, the move execution, the music, not being bombarded with messages when I first started the game…
I know that SFV has a troubled history, and comparing it to certain aspects of GG is probably an unfair comparison (unless Daisuke starts doing music for SF too, it’s not going to outmatch GG). But this is more about the way SF presents itself as a whole than about its various production problems. There seem to be a lot of features that I like (arcade mode for every version of SF? Cool!) but I don’t find this game as easy or as fun to pick up as the anime fighters I’ve played recently. It doesn’t feel as inviting—again, the character designs don’t really make me want to try a lot of them. It feels slower and clunkier. That being said, I’ve also felt like Skullgirls can feel this way at times, and it’s taken a while to get a feel for its unique rhythm, so I imagine SFV will be the same.
Just some assorted thoughts, subject to change as always.
Oh and why the fuck does SFV need to be ~44gb lmfao too big!!!

So here's the rather circumlocutory route Daisuke would've had to take when he decides to not go to Kousirou's, but go to Ken's side when digimon are appearing in the human world, at least assuming that the train lines were this way in 2002 as well
The red dot is Odaiba station and Tamachi station is demarcated at the end of the green line. He'd have to transfer from the train demarcated in blue to the one demarcated in green. As you can see, because my phone is in Spanish for lack of a Japanese option, it would take 25 minutes from boarding the first train to arrive at Tamachi station.
Of course, ostensibly Ken is doing this every time he meets up with the other Chosen.
It's not a bad time--I take one train to work in about the same time.
And just for fun, Tamachi station to Toukyou Tower (maybe Daisuke and Ken are going for a fancy dinner :) )
Again, phone is in Spanish, so Toukyou Tower is "Torre de Tokio"
The thing below the start of the line says "SoftBank Tamachi" SoftBank is a major wireless telecom. I don't know if that's a store or something owned by SoftBank, like how San Francisco's Candlestick Park became AT&T Park. (Not that we all call it that)
And yes, there's a 7-11. 7-11s are as big in Japan as they are in Los Angeles. Unfortunately for me, they're not so big in the SF Bay Area.
It also recommended walking via City Route 301 for 22 minutes, so you could get there walking, but there's always a better route when Google has one that suggests making a left turn followed by a right turn over and over. I've not spent enough time in Toukyou to know what that better route is (or was, I haven't been back since the early '90s, and much of my info is dated)
Just something for the heck of it. These routes are as of January 2020, and the train routes in 2002 may have been different. I'd already been in America almost ten years by the time Digimon aired, and I lived in Koube anyway before then. So there's my disclaimer.

Quick thoughts about Digimon:
I tuned in one morning I wasn't working, which was rare at that job I was at at the time, caught 02 ep 10, and was hooked. I later realised the writer of all the Dark Ocean content was Konaka Chiaki, whose work I generally like, so no surprise there.
I gotta say, they probably should've just gone with 「相棒」 for partner. This word is usually a partner in context of a business partner or police partner--in fact, a show called just that has been running for the entire 21st century about detective partners (and it's a pretty good show. I've seen it be sympathetic to the plight of undocumented immigrants, for one)
Using "partner" the English loanword...well, the context I really hear it in is same-gender partner.
Now, mind you, I only figured things out as an adult, and native Japanese speakers here are and always have been treated pretty miserably. (Which is why "exotic Japanese garnish for my human default English" is very, very much rubbing your priveledge in our faces, incredibly offensive, but hey, y'all also repost Japanese fanworks without permission to the point many delete their accounts and give up because y'all are so married to the idea we're not people, which frankly, y'all's treatment of queer men in fandom is equally garbage)
But the reason that point is mentioned is that we're so sidelined, it's hard to even find and connect with each other (e.g. SF Japantown only has Japanese speaking clerks on one floor of Kinokuniya where the books in Japanese for us are kept. It's now "look Asian for the tourists") so a lot of us end up having trouble accessing random words in our own language because we're so used to either no one around us speaking it or bad consequences when we break our English with Japanese.
So, as I've never experienced queer life in Japan, and Japanese immigrants commonly end up yoyoing back to English, I'm not entirely sure "partner" the loanword is the only way to express same-gender partner as opposed to just the only one I've heard.
It does stand that it is *a* way. (Well, obviously, you could still use terms like "boyfriend" or "wife" but think the same as English speakers use it)
When watching 02, it's pretty easy to not go there because they're so young, and interact with the digimon during downtime like siblings, as the digimon are children as well (and you can't tell me that Wormmon isn't spot on for a younger brother in an abuse situation caring for an older brother)
Tailmon isa bit different, and obviously more mature, but ep 10 was the only Hikari-centric episode, and I never really had the desire to go back and watch Adventure. I don't feel like it had something for older viewers like I got out of 02-Frontier (Savers was intentionally about older viewers, and it was like a Doogie Howser/Men in Black/Digimon crossover, and I love it. And it had adults and even an elderly character with Digimon partners! Yay for useful adults!) so I admittedly can't decisively say about Tailmon.
But the rest do seem like siblings to their human children. And they're pointedly all children.
But just now, I was watching the new short, To Sora.
I have to say, as Piyomon has an adult voice, and Sora is an adult, my mind definitely went to "maybe the nomenclature could be better."
I do also have to say that I'm rather disappointed that they're ending this with "adults can't be Chosen anymore." At least there'll always be Savers, and maybe someday, I'll have enough of my massive dual-prong Digimon and Bleach project up that I can call it "extant" (I'm having a handful of the Bleach gang become Chosen as well as Osamu put into a gigai, and if you know Bleach, just imagine Coyote Starrk getting a new friend. Of course, he still has Lillynette and also adopts most of the Arrancar as his own children, but yes, Coyote gets a Digimon friend, too. And they're specifically trying calling adults because the kids keep getting too traumatised)
Ah, things run away from me.
But yes, especially with adult chosen and digimon, "partner" the loanword with no qualifier (i.e. "partner digimon") sounds like something else entirely to my queer mind www
And also "boo" for usefulness having an age limit. I wouldn't be saying this if this weren't specifically being aimed at fans who grew up with Adventure, and, while younger than me, are still well into adulthood. Cross Wars or the reboot have no reason to concern themselves with adult viewership, but Kizuna is being made for adults. So "end of childhood=end of your ability to be a hero" seems kinda... Even if they're just trying to end the original Adventure franchise, seems like a...they can do it better.
While no, Ken's and Daisuke's parents and Jun really *don't* deserve love, just... I dunno, there's just a deluge of teen heroes with powers and some immortal hero stories, but there's not a whole lot of the kind of adults you see in Savers. Yeah, they're side characters, but I'll take what I can get. Kizuna's approach is more common, which is a shame now that the average fan is roughly 29.
(Doesn't it also mess up the whole making the epilogue make any sense, what with everyone being with their digimon in that?)
(And for that matter, I would've loved 02 parents to have names, and maybe they could've gone into Miyako's more. She seems like she has a solid family. We see Ken explaining the digimon, and his parents exploited him until he had a breakdown. Heck, his dad continues to jump down his throat over things. Why couldn't Miyako's get some love? Why can't we see Miyako explaining digimon to her family and stay up all night with her older siblings hanging on her every word? Which considering how much real life kids get sorta discounted when two adults are talking (which I'll often just walk past and wave to the kid, so they know someone sees them) might have actually been an empowering fantasy for viewers. And a really great balance to Daisuke and Ken's home lives. (The kids with unpleasant families feel represented and empowered because they can still be heroes, but kids can also have the empowerment of watching Miyako's whole family, of which she is the baby, hanging on her words
(Also, why can't we see how someone from that family could enjoy the company of someone who slaps her kid brother around? And has some kind of stalker complex? Sure, it's stuff I can make answers for myself in my project, just like the initial reason to cross them was explaining the Dark Ocean, but I really would've loved something in canon about them)
Typically, adults in any kind of action hero story--let's look at Star Wars. The people who raised Luke are non-combatants. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda (an older Muppet, but older still stands) are just there as mentors, like Urahara in Bleach. It's really on Luke's shoulders. Han Solo is as old as a hero gets, and he's pretty young himself. (I've seen the original trilogy, and it was forever ago, so if Luke Skywalker is actually a teenager, forgive the error)
You don't see anyone between 20 year old hero and 60 year old mentor doing much of anything. Buddy cops are the only exception to this.
Shame that digimon is gonna follow that pattern instead of buck the trend, especially now that their fanbase is getting older. I dunno how much of a letdown the apparent Kizuna narrative is for a 29 year old as opposed to someone who wasn't even a kid when it was new, but I'm sure it's there. Even if I am decidedly older than that, I can't be the only one disappointed by it. If I thought I was, I wouldn't make this post.
And it kinda messes up using this to make the epilogue make any sense. When it was first revealed that Yamato suddenly became an astronaut, Gabumon was there with him on Mars. So on and so forth, and all humans had partners. Which naturally includes all the people over 23.
I guess we'll always have Satuma and Kudamon. (Miki and Megumi are nice too, and are also teetering on the edge of canon ship, which it's nice to see queer female fans get that, but they do seem like they're in their early to mid 20s, which arguably puts them at the end of typical "useful age range")
I'd love to already have an alternative up, but for now, I only have a few Bleach prequel one shots posted and over 800 pages of bullet point notes.

How do you interpret Ishiwatari’s words?
Well, I’ll be regurgitating what was already written, but I suppose it won’t hurt to analyze it a bit.
[Main goal: Create a game that both new and existing players want.]
Easier said than done, and really, the Xrd games still managed to accomplish this to a limited extent, though there are still gamers who don’t find GG games appealing “no matter what”, so you can exclude those opinions technically.
In my experience though, “new players” is a vague term, and more often than not that could be a younger generation of gamers that plays mobile games, FPS online games like Fortnite, adventure rpgs, and other mixed genre games (Overwatch comes to mind as well).
New players come from those diverse genres of games, but they also come from other fighting game and action game genres too… so that is something he will probably be taking in to account.
[Core Concept: Not like previous games, (no roots/evolution) but no addition or subtraction from previous elements either, but still a new experience as a GG game.]
This statement feels rather vague and contradictory, as a new concept would actually be an “addition/evolution” rather than a “subtraction”. While retaining elements is still technically a “root element”.
Rather than focus on this particular passage of what Daisuke said, I’ll move on and clarify what he’s aiming for in clearer more succint terms.
It’s more accurate to state that he is stating this with the “general feeling” he wants to achieve, rather than something completely concrete based on this concept. (i.e. this is what he wants, but might not take this shape exactly).
[Method: Disassembly of key elements from previous games that were most unique and charismatic and using those to reconstruct the franchise.]
This is the more “concrete” description of what he has in mind to achieve the above. Which makes more sense and is relatively reasonable to expect.
Guilty Gear “Deconstructed/Reassembled” you might say.
If I had to compare it to anything, “Rebuild of Evangelion” films come to mind, or Toshimichi Mori’s “Calamity Trigger Reconstruction” as well.
This is still technically borrowing “past elements”, but giving them a “new spin” with stronger tools to enforce the work this time around.
[Full-frontal confrontation with the “essence” of the fighting game genre… (note he did not say the “essence” of Guilty Gear, but the fighting game genre as a whole). A High risk move.
It’s a never-ending pursuit (according to him) to achieve the goal.]
Talking about Guilty Gear’s history, is literally talking about Fighting Game History itself if you can fathom it. It intermingles with games from Capcom, SNK, Sega, Taito, Square-Enix, Arika, you name it, really.
The history of arcade fighting as a genre, which is it’s own broad storied topic.
From a mechanical standpoint, he is literally looking back at all the micro “evolutions” that took place in each consecutive GG game and taking stock of them all and considering what will best accomplish the clearest interpretation of his own work.
In a way, Guilty Gear Generations comes to mind… the GG/GGX/EX Mode mechanics that were featured in Accent Core. Extra Menu as well.
Keep in mind, one of Ishiwatari’s favorite games was Street Fighter III: Third Strike… in that game in particular, there was an “Extra Options” menu that could essentially tweak the rules of the game on a deep level (SF Alpha Anthology has dip switches that do something similar as well).
GGXX Accent Core was essentially no different, with a focus on “options given to the player”.
If the next GG does accomplish something on this level, it will most certainly take its previous incarnations in to DEEP CONSIDERATION!
Whether you prefer Blitzshield, Slashback, YRCs, EX Mode, or Forcebreaks… I’m sure Daisuke will probably accommodate your nuance of play… that’s what my gut is telling me here, based on what he said in this passage.
Maybe not exactly verbatim of my speculative statement, but closely considered at the least!
It won’t happen overnight, hence the term “never-ending pursuit”. So patience is the key!
[Gaming “as a bridge to connect people” is part of his belief in the creation of this work.]
Networking, Synergy, connecting players… a means of establishing community.
While I can’t say for sure if this means GGPO rollback netcode… I’m sure it’s something Daisuke wants to mitigate…
Dealing with Rage Quits, dealing with hostility and toxicity, increasing the ways and means players can connect with eachother… possibly even cross-platform (between the Switch, PS4, Xbox, AND Steam? Sounds ambitious as all get-out if you ask me!)
Maybe they’ll even work harder on establishing a stronger means of communicating with Western and European GG players… for example, the “news update page” they put in Xrd only ever functioned for Japanese-side players… perhaps they’ll revise it and give Americans/Europeans a slice of the “internet news pie” that Japanese players so enjoy.
Better access to tournaments, better access to events, easier ways to participate both online and offline… lots of stuff to consider here… either in competitive or casual circles.
Better translations (dubs?), better presentation, more content for English-speaking communities? We’ll see!
[Closing Words.]
Obviously, Daisuke is working within his limits, so don’t get your hopes TOO HIGH here… but still, keep it in the back of your mind that it’s a problem he’s trying to solve.
This is, in a nutshell… a tall order to fulfill… and I wouldn’t expect the first “game” he makes after writing this to accomplish it to full capacity.
What’s most important though, is that we keep communicating with ARC System Works here… to let them know EXACTLY what we want! Don’t be negative, but focus on what’s within the realm of possibility.
Be open to new ideas, be constructive, be helpful, and be optimistic (with just a hint of realistic thinking)! Just help Daisuke out here!

Circa 2003
This is not my 100 followers gift (which is in progress), but I tracked down these files while my internet connection dicked around and got the download ready. Back in high school I used to watch Adult Swim whenever I had the opportunity to stay up until 2 o’clock in the morning. I’m a huge fan of The Big O and Lupin III even...wow...fifteen years later. ;o; I’m not getting old, nope.
So these are recolors of Linacherie’s 4t2 conversion of Simsza’s national park prints. I created them using some tweaked versions of my own artwork. Sorry, no in-game previews on these right now, but you can see one in my Prickles & Petals preview to get an idea of size.
I’m assuming if you’re looking to download these, you’re familiar with the characters, but just in case:
(from left to right, per the swatches) R. Dorothy Wayneright, Roger Smith The Big O, Inspector Koichi Zenigata Fujiko Mine, Arsene Lupin III Goemon Ishikawa, Daisuke Jigen ♥
Files are named for their characters and the above swatches are included. I’ve also included the mesh for the sake of convenience, but you really should check out Linacherie’s entire gift to beccabear over there at GoS. (Some of my favorite wood floors are there!)
Download Circa 2003 SFS It’s been a little while so if I cocked anything up, please let me know. XP

ILLUSTRATION Exhibition SESSION Vol.01

Bookshelf Briefs 8/11/21
Sean is our hero as he shoulders the burden of this column solo.
D-Frag!, Vol. 15 | By Tomoya Haruno | Seven Seas – This manga is here for romance and jokes, but the jokes are so prevalent that the romance tends to fall by the wayside. Technically there are a bunch of girls who have fallen for Kazuma, but honestly, in reality he and Takao seem to have the only relationship with actual sexual chemistry. This is especially helped by a wacky sequence where Kazuma has to dress up as a girl to avoid Takao’s protective father, and ends up being quite a believable one. Takao has now finally left Kazuma’s house (minus one bra, which becomes another running gag), but the others are still there, despite the meteor preventing them from moving back home being taken care of by the power of EEL. Deeply silly. – Sean Gaffney
The Dangers in My Heart, Vol. 1 | By Norio Sakurai | Seven Seas – This bizarre little comedy was not quite what I was expecting. Our “hero,” Kyotaro, is a wannabe edgelord who keeps narrating inside his head and dreams of killing his classmates… except no, he doesn’t, as he’s far too much of a wuss to do anything. He has a repressed crush on Anna, the “best girl” in class, who is not only popular but also turns out to be a model on the side. That said, as he and the reader slowly realize, Anna is… strange. Stranger than she likes to let on, really. What ensues are a series of short chapters where he tries to stop the other horny teens in his class from sexually harassing the girls, while also watching Anna break her stereotype. Not sure if recommended? It was OK. – Sean Gaffney
Horimiya, Vol. 15 | By Hero and Daisuke Hagiwara | Yen Press – We’re nearing the end of the manga at last, after the misstep that was the anime (not a disaster, but not as well-received as hoped). The anime helped highlight the manga’s main flaw, which is that it absolutely will not let Hori’s temper and tendency to hit Miyamura go away, and it continues to walk a fine line between “it’s funny in a Looney Tunes way” and “this is abusive behavior and I, the author know it,” with a side of “they know they’re into S&M so it’s OK.” It feels weird, frankly. Yuki and Tooru are still the secondary not-quite-a-couple, but frustratingly, that’s all they seem to be. And of course there’s the focus on endless minor characters I can’t remember. This is still a mess, but it’s almost over. – Sean Gaffney
Love at Fourteen, Vol. 10 | By Fuka Mizutani | Yen Press – Do you love age-gap romance? Or romance that looks like age-gap romance? Then this is the manga for you… at least when it’s not focusing on its main couple, who continue to be the main reason to keep reading it. We’re not walking back the moving away yet, and it’s really hitting them both hard, to the point where they do a “day trip” to talk about how far away it will be. There is talk of them having sex (which they are quick to point out is legal between two fourteen-year-olds in Japan), but neither one has knowledge beyond rudimentary, so they back off to research it. Frankly, it’s too soon. As for the others, well, they are what they are. I do like the sad lesbian helping out her next-gen equivalent, though. – Sean Gaffney
Ran the Peerless Beauty, Vol. 9 | By Ammitsu | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – Resolving the cliffhanger from the last volume turns out to go exactly the way every reader thought it would. Ran is taken away by her dad and there’s a bit of “you can’t see him again” going on. It’s all mainly because her dad is sad that his little girl is growing up. Akira manages to win the dad over by basically being his usual self, and in the end Ran agrees not to have any sex before marriage, because … well, because they’re so pure, really. That said, we’re only a volume away from the finale, so it’s time for one last little wrinkle from Ran’s past to show up and stress everyone out. If you miss Kimi ni Todoke and wish you could read more of it only with even more innocent leads, this is the manga for you. – Sean Gaffney
We’re New at This, Vol. 8 | By Ren Kawahara | Kodansha Comics (digital only) – Turns out that Ikuma being a salaryman is not that big a shift from Ikuma being a contract worker, though it does mean he has to go out with his boss and get drunk more often (a staple of Japanese corporate culture, and I’ve never liked it). Fortunately, while he and Sumika still sometimes have trouble communicating their needs and desires, they still communicate better than 90% of the other married couples in manga. That said, things end with a fight here, as Ikuma’s womanizing friend has finally met a nice girl, and Ikuma and Sumika differ on whether this is a good thing or not. Their fight will probably spill into book nine, though given the cliffhanger I’m guessing Ikuma is correct here. Sweet fun. – Sean Gaffney
The Whole of Humanity Has Gone Yuri Except for Me | By Hiroki Haruse | Yen Press – This two-volume series is out here in one omnibus, and that seems to be the correct decision, because I doubt this premise could sustain a long series. A high school girl wakes up one day to find everyone in the world is now a woman, and always has been. She’s in a parallel world… and she’s straight! Or is she? If that premise makes you go “heck yeah!,” you’ll be fine with this SF series, as she and her seemingly aloof, secretly disaster lesbian schoolmate try to figure out what happened and if she can return to her own world. If you saw the premise and sighed, it’s not going to magically be any different than what you’d expect. – Sean Gaffney

February Reading Wrap Up
Just felt like writing about it; don’t mind me. XD
Blackathon Team Sci-Fi/Fantasy
1) The Lesson by Cadwell Turnbull (3 1/2 stars)
This was the team book for the SF/F team so I figured I’d read it first to get it out of the way in case I wasn’t a fan. It was well-written and an interesting story with creepy af atmosphere ‘cause when the summary said the aliens reacted to minor threats with extreme violence? They were not kidding. Holy crap. I personally found the ending kind of depressing but I understood what the author was going for and even if I disagree with him on a spiritual level, I still respected his writing and story.
2) The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson (5 stars)
Flawless. Absolutely flawless. The worldbuilding was amazing, the characters were engaging, and the relationships (platonic or romantic) were so fleshed out. The twists were well done. I loved it. I was glad Starlah recommended it. Jesse did too before, if I remember correctly. Anyway, they were both right; this book was excellent. I’ll have to buy it someday.
3) The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow (3 stars)
This was the book where I wasn’t in love with it but I care enough to keep following. And I’m genuinely glad it exists. I’m glad there’s a story for plus size Black girls to see themselves being cherished in a story, even if said story is instalove. YMMV on how well-executed it was. This book barely counted for the time travel requirement but if the host of SF/F (Starlah) herself recommended it, then dangit I went for it. I had already read Kindred by Octavia E. Butler and while I loved it, I didn’t want to do any rereading.
4) Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky (4 stars)
I had a blast with this one. The humor was top notch and I found the worldbuilding fascinating. If that bit in the ending was supposed to be some build up on romance for the sequel(s), I’m not feeling it to be honest but whatever. XD
Miscellaneous
5) Happily Ever Afters by Elise Bryant (4 1/2 stars)
It’s a love story with social commentary on racism, ableism, mental health and other subjects without feeling too clogged up. I could see if someone would feel put off by the main character’s “shallowness” in the beginning but it’s totally done on purpose and it’s about her learning to love herself and cherish everything that matters to her (her family, her friends, her writing).
There are two connected love triangles in this book and I surprisingly didn’t want to fling myself into the sun. Truly a miracle.
6) The Dating Plan by Sara Desai (3 stars)
The pacing was wonky in some parts but I wasn’t looking for a deep time to begin with. I had fun for the most part and that’s what mattered. This book came from Book of the Month (it was the last book I got back in January; skipped February and this month for now)
7) Horimiya Vol 1 by HERO and Daisuke Hagiwara (4 stars)
Apparently this manga is more popular in my area than I expected. Which is a good thing. It’s a cute story in anime form and it’s a cute story in manga form. I don’t really have a preference at the moment even though there were two arcs so far that I was sad that the anime cut out but I understood why they did it.
Minor spoiler: Miyamura is a big, adorable baby when he’s sick. XP
8) A Sign of Affection Vol 1 by Suu Morishita (5 stars)
The story is so cute and I’m glad it’s from Yuuki’s perspective. The characters are a delight and it’s fascinating to learn even a tiny bit of signs in Japanese Sign Language (and if possible, compare it to American Sign Language; the sign for “friends” is kind of similar; “thank you” a bit of a stretch but still fascinating). Another reminder that I really, really need to get serious about learning Sign Language. Also the author consults with a Deaf colleague for sensitivity reading so that’s cool. Definitely gonna follow this story.
Plans for March
I’ve always wanted to participate in Middle Grade March and I do have several middle grade books to check out. It’s a nice, fun way to plow through some more of the books I bought in the last few years and decide if they’re worth keeping to give to my friends’ kids when they get older.
I don’t feel like going upstairs to grab them but I do believe I’m aiming to read four middle grade books and hopefully read Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. Should be doable.
#personal#faye reads#i'm surprised i haven't hit a reading slump...yet#last year and the year before i totally hit one by now
