Sexypink - Earlier today I mentioned the heat in Trinidad and Tobago. Little did I suspect that a volcano of an Artist had passed. How can anyone wrap their mind around the passing of Sir Horace Ove? Where shall the next genius come from? Will we experience them in our lifetime again? The wisest course of action is to honor his work by showing it, talking about it and encouraging future generations. To his prolific Artist son Zac, deepest sympathies on the loss of your father.

From the Facebook page of Artist Zac Ové
“Sir Horace Shango Ové”. My Father. This week Horace has had his Knighthood officially announced by the Queen, Sir Horace Shango Ové, of Belmont Trinidad, for his pioneering contributions to British cinema and media.
Sadly at this point in his life after many years with Alzheimers, it has come a little too late for him to acknowledge or really appreciate. Horace, as many of you will know, spoke out through his work at the injustices and oversights of British politics both here and across ‘the Empire’ so there is real irony at this moment of recognition that would have made him laugh out loud.
He did not begin his creative journey seeking affirmation from those he criticised and his artistic protest through his films and photography, which span his life time, was his commitment to giving a platform to those invisible ideologies, heroes and histories of Black people and its culture, that were otherwise invisible at that time.
This accolade is for a life times work that remains as pertinent today as when it was made. I’m very proud that his commitment to making Britain better, has finally been acknowledged by the powers that be and for all to remember and continue to learn. Evening standard ; In a statement to the PA news agency, Sir Horace said: “I’m greatly honoured to receive this recognition for my work.
“Chronicling the lives, battles, art and culture of the African and Caribbean diaspora in Britain and around the world has been a lifelong journey and passion. “This award is testament to how far we have come and in many respects how far we still have to go. One Love.”The judges said: “Ove may (regretfully) not be a household name but, as the man whom the Guinness Book of Records credits as the first black British film-maker to direct a feature film, his contribution to cinema in the UK has certainly been significant.
“In a year where Windrush has been plastered across newspaper headlines, it seems fitting that the jury have chosen to honour one of the generation’s proudest voices.”
