I, for one, love the fact the the writers in Prodigy made Janeway retire from Starfleet. Not only it makes sense but also shows her character growth.

Janeway loves Starfleet, Janeway IS Starfleet but I really appreciate that Prodigy showed that you can experience burnout even in doing something you love, in something that you considered part of who you were.

I love that Janeway allowed herself to recognize that it was becoming too much for her and took active steps to focus on herself (retirement). She's been through a lot even before Delta Quadrant and the PTSD from the Delta Quadrant alone was enough for her to spend the next decade in therapy. Also, if we consider Mosaic as canon for her backstory, she never really dealt with the loss of her father and fiancé, or her depression. She never grieved properly, she never processed her loss, she forced herself (and was pushed by her sister) to move on, she returned to Starfleet and kept herself busy, she buried her grief.

All that is a lot to carry and I mean A LOT. It all boils over in 'Night' in season 5 and she succumbs to her depression and then AGAIN, in the end she just claws her way back because the crew loves her and won't allow her to sacrifice herself and also her sense of responsibility to her crew wins. She claws her way back. She had a job to do, she has to get them home. Self-sacrifice is imbedded deeply in her character.

But there's no respite at home. Home is not the same.

Janeway is a scientist and an explorer first anf foremost, she’s also excellent diplomat. Politics is part of diplomacy but politics is not why she joined Starfleet for. Her job as an Admiral is now mainly politics, it's a chronically stressful occupation with insane responsibility and Janeway hadn't had a break for years at this point. And even Chakotay’s disappearance aside, she's clearly disillusioned with what Starfleet is at this point.

It is becoming too much and Janeway acknowledging that is huge step for this character, it must be nothing but devastating to acknowledge that the one thing you gave your life in service of, is no longer serving you, it's actually bad for you and your mental health. I don't believe Janeway took the decision to retire lightly, I imagine it broke her heart to retire but she needed it.

I know kiddies watching PRO won't know any of this, because you need to know Janeway’s backstory from Voy, but just the fact that the show for kids did not shy away from trauma and mental health issues is, in my opinion, phenomenal. I love and applaud the writers decision to make Janeway retire, however briefly. It checks out.

Wanted to repaint a frame from season 2 of Prodigy for STLV in bleach on a t-shirt. I learned a lot and I'm very happy with it, but most people totally didn't even notice it at the con which was a little disappointing. In total, it was six layers of stencils for the bleach, and I painted some details in gold and glow-in-the-dark fabric paint. I didn't get a picture of the back, but I splattered some bleach on the back and it looks nice.

i see everyone going on about the end of cracked mirror because that reunion was just squee-worthy!

but i also absolutely love, LOVE the beginning of cracked mirror and seeing chakotay show up on the protostar bridge all freshened up and with a new uniform and actually nervous about his appearance, and the way dal calls him out, 'ooh, looks like someone is ready to be sent to the admiral's ready room' and gwyn and holo janeway give him a little pep talk!!

that man is a wreck under the surface and he just needs to see his girlfriend again. i love this for them and i love this for me

obsessed with how marc's performance of celebrity has this kind of forced im normal im regular sheen to it sometimes that comes off as deeply vulnerable and trying too hard at the same time. his documentary where he tells everybody hes normal no really (conditions of normal: having family members and emotions) and then every other person interviewed is like hes an asshole hes insane hes the next virgin mary hes maybe icarus hes a wizard hes a workaholic and i dont know he does x y and z because it should be IMPOSSIBLE. like hes often balancing some degree of a lie AND often some of the most intensely intimate images ive ever seen come from a celebrity. literally inviting a camera crew to film him waking up from anesthesia. balancing "normalcy" with clear alien status as recognized by his peers. AND he'll drop ass to britney if given half a chance

I need people to start showing more traumatized Toya to me. He is not one of the most abused characters in pjsk for nothing.

Make him have a breakdown over not being able to open a popcorn bag (he's never done it before), watch him collect the little blobs with tears in his eyes when he opens it the wrong way.

Make him lock all the doors behind him (he was never allowed to) just in case someone bad comes in. Just in case he gets kicked out for good.

Make him jealous of the littlest bits of affection; of the hugs and kisses and frolicking that parents do with their children (he never needed it anyway, so why did it hurt so bad?)

Make him hitch, make him flinch, make his eyes bloodshot like those of a sacrificial lamb. Make sure he knows he's not safe. Make him wait for it with white knuckles and soundless steps.

Make him struggle with tying his shoes (nobody ever taught him how to).

Make Vbs tell him they'll teach him. All these little insignificant things that shouldn't matter— they'll teach him. They'll take care of him. They'll support him through it all.

Make Toya Aoyagi suffer — but most importantly — make him heal.

The way we were made to think he was an underdog, Hoshina himself said that he was a reject because his brother is better than him in every way. But then the second we're shown the perspective of another Hoshina it's like, "Yeah, no, he's terrifying as fuck. 0/10 would not recommend taking him on in a fight. 100% the strongest Hoshina that ever lived."
