Hey, Mom, can we get Victorian Maiden Summer Classical Doll Dress?
Tumblr media
No, kids, because it only comes in a 27" waist.
But we can make it:
Tumblr media
Step 1, View B of McCall's M7071.
Step 2, attach skirt of your choice to the bottom of the blouse.
Bingo.
If you want, you could even do it as separates, where the blouse is just made according to factory spec, and then you make your own a-line or circle skirt.
You can stick fabric loops into the back darts to add a lacing to adjust the fit and add an extra detail, as well.
Anyway, there you go, another design that's easy to copy with commercial patterns.
If you need more examples of lolita you can make from commercial patterns, I have a list.

Making this headdress was a change of conventions so big! I’m used to think that the small details are what matters when talking about lolita, but this specific coord don’t seem to hold a very detailed headdress. Sometimes less is better.

so...I had to size up a skirt and it was...a challenge
Tumblr media
My friend had given me a skirt for basically free (in exchange for driving her home). But of course it was waaaaay to small for me. Thankfully I sew (quite a bit) so I took it home to alternate it size.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And after like 2 days of sewing, unstitching and trying on the skirt, I finally got it to fit me. And lemme tell you, I ADORE the print on this skirt. It's so detailed and intricate. It's like a painting.🤭 Anyways, I feel super accomplished with this since I have never had to upsize any of the garments I own

If yyour cheap computerized Brother sewing machine stops advancing the fabric, or only going backwards, here's what to do.
First of all, do not put oil in there. In the last year, I've seen 5 machines where this would have worked, except that someone decided to drown the circuit board in oil. Basically zero parts of an entry level computerized brother can be fixed with oil. Put the oil away.
Tumblr media
See how there's nothing stopping the oil you put on your feed teeth from going to your main circuit board? Don't do it.
Tumblr media
See that combo of that little black gear and the white rack? That controls your feed. Sometimes, your machine gets stuck in reverse because the rack overshoot the gear, and then there's no connection to get it back down.
You can see this rack by taking off your stitch plate, and usually access it by poking at it with tweezers. Push it down a little bit, if it's going in reverse. Push it up a little bit if it's stuck at almost 0. Make sure you have theachinevturned off and unplugged before you dick around with this stepper motor, or the machine can get confused, try to fight you, and break itself more than it already is.
Stick it back together, and see if it's feeding now. If it is feeding semi-properly, try adjusting your stitch length.
Best case, this actually fixes your problem, and now your machine works again. If it doesn't, and the machine only sews at one length, wiggle the rack up and down until you get a good general-purpose stitch length, and you can just sew exclusively at that length until you've saved up enough to get a new machine. It ain't fixed, but it's better than broken.

The production studio at "Baby, the Stars Shine Bright" featured in an episode of Tokyo Fashion Express. Their designs typically require up to 50 sewing patterns, which is about 5 times as many as the average dress. Detailed notes on measurements and specifications are written for the sewing factory.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sewing factory is in Ibaraki prefecture. For more than 20 years they've been sewing clothes exclusively for BTSSB. 17 people work there, most of them being veterans age 60 or over. Due to the complexity they work in teams for ironing, sewing lace and ribbons, as well as completing gathers and frills.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The manager of the factory, Sumiko Watahiki, says in an interview: "There's tons of gather, lace, and layering, which requires a lot of sewing. At first, I doubted I could do it! It was that hard. (But) I'm always impressed with the adorable designs when I see the finished products or while I work."
