Pairing: Seth Borden x Reader (Gender Neutral)
Warnings: Swearing, Ghostly activity, Paranormal Investigations
Genre: Fluff, Comfort, RPF (Real Person Fic)
Summary: see request above
"What's up guys, it's Sam and Colby!" I mentally check out for a few seconds as Sam and Colby start filming the intro to their video as Seth and I idle around in the background. "Today, we'll be investigating one of the most brutal prisons in US history." Colby explains to the camera, turning to Sam to give him his cue.
"The Darkmont Correctional Facility in Huntsville, Alabama." The blond declares before turning off the. "We'll film the history segment inside, it's too windy out here. The audio will be a bitch to edit." He tells us, tilting his head to the entrance gates of the massive and downright terrifying building that has been abandoned for decades.
A shiver runs down my spine as I look up at it. Not so much out of fear, more so excitement. I was an urban explorer long before meeting and dating Seth, let alone Sam and Colby. I have a decent pile of trespassing charges under my belt but my adventures never included dabbling into the paranormal. It brings a whole new level of adrenaline to the table and it always makes for a remarkable experience, especially with these guys.
Seth, on the other hand, approaches the paranormal with much more skepticism and a ton more fear which I believe contradict one another - how can you be afraid of something you don't believe in? But alas, I don't fight him on it, I know it's pointless.
Messing with him, however, works like a charm.
I take my opportunity to do just that when I see him very visibly gulp as he takes in the exterior of the prison as we enter the courtyard past the giant metal gates the tour-guide left open for us.
"Someone's looking paler than usual." I poke his side with my finger, hitting a particularly ticklish spot that causes him to jump.
He grabs my hand, lacing our fingers together, "Not at all, I've seen worse." He shrugs, feigning nonchalance with a simple shrug even though I can clearly see the goosebumps on his skin.
"Whatever you say, babe." I mock him with a pout, dragging him along with me, forcing some speed in his steps to catch up with the guys.
The interior is infinitely worse than the exterior. It's stonewall, concrete and metal wherever the eye can see - which isn't much considering how dark it is. No lights are on, the only visibility being provided by the daylight seeping in through the barred up windows. It's a pretty cloudy day so there's not much of said daylight to go around either.
In short, it's the perfect atmosphere.
That's only confirmed further when I feel Seth's hand tightening its hold on mine, seeking the comfort he's too prideful to actually ask for.
"Welcome, yall." A deep voice with a southern drawl catches our attention out of the blue, startling us. Well, some more than others considering I didn't fail to pick on Seth's little jump out of the corner of my eye. I can't help but laugh, causing him to blush.
The voice belongs to our tour-guide Alan. He greets us each individually before starting the tour, telling us the stories stemming from this place. Sam, Colby and I take turns holding the main camera, capturing different angles as we walk through the eerie halls and cells. Seth tried helping out as well but his hands are too unsteady to get any usable footage so he's just taken to carrying the bag with the equipment and holding my hand as if I'm the scared one.
As the tour comes to an end, Alan turns off the lights he had turned on at the beginning, wishes us luck and sets off on his way, saying he hopes to see us all alive and well in the morning. It's the cherry on top of the terror cake he'd made with the history of the place as well as visitor horror stories. He gave us further proof of the paranormal activity in the place with pictures and recordings that Seth discreetly avoided looking at for too long.
The early hours of the night are upon us at this point and we've switched over to flashlights and the camera light to guide ourselves around the premises. Sam and Colby excuse themselves to the so called 'taming dungeon' to film the history segment for the video.
I walk around, looking at the marks on the stone walls while Seth remains rigid and jumpy in the middle of the large space that used to be a lobby. When I stray down the hall, following a trail of what I hope is paint on the wall, he jogs to catch up, prompting a laugh from me.
"Don't worry, babe. I ain't going anywhere. You're alright. The ghosts aren't coming to get you....yet." I add the last part with a low whisper and a tickle to the back of his neck. I've come to realize that defocusing his attention from the fear factor and instead move it to our banter is the best course of action. He'll never admit he's scared, so the best I can do is try and actually make him forget he's scared.
"Shut up..." He laughs, tickling my side as a counter-attack. "You're the worst."
I grin up at him, "Oh you love it."
Something tells me it's gonna be a pretty long night.
* * * *
"Is it just me or is it freezing in here?" Seth speaks up as we migrate from one floor onto the next after a brief investigation with the flashlights and other equipment. The spirits are talkative but dodged properly answering any of the questions we asked. They actually appeared to be talking amongst themselves more than us but it was still informative.
"I think it's cause you're a little bitch." Colby, who's also been put on edge by the activity we've gotten so far, replies. He masks his own fear by messing with the rest of us and I respect that. I'm doing the same.
"Oh fuck you!" Seth laughs, lightly punching his arm, "Y/N back me up here!"
Sam and I have already begun setting up the flashlights and REM pod so I'm partially distracted when I turn my head to look at the two. I glance between them, Colby giving me a fast nod. "Yeah, whatever Colby said." I shrug, evoking two completely different reactions from them.
As soon as we start, we are basically told to leave. We try to get a few questions in to try and ease up the tension but the spirit's opinion doesn't change - he wants us gone. And I can't blame him, if I died in this horrible place the last thing I'd want is to talk about it.
With that last group investigation we reach the audience favorite - and Seth's most dreaded - part: the solo investigations.
A game of rock-paper-scissors decides the areas we'd be covering: Colby takes the attic, Seth is on the second floor, I get the ground floor and Sam takes the basement somewhat voluntarily - something I greatly admire. We each take a piece of equipment with us and we split up.
"Hey..." I take Seth's hand before he follows Colby up the stairs, "I'm just a flight of stairs away. If you get freaked out, just call out to me, I'll meet you at these stairs, ok?"
He gives my hand a reassuring squeeze, and truthfully - I needed that. "I'll be ok, I hope. But the same goes for you. Anything happens, I'll be right down."
With a parting kiss, we each begin our investigations.
I, for some reason, chose the music box to be my piece of equipment. I've placed it at the beginning of the main hallway and take a seat in a fold up chair, turning on night vision on my camera.
"Here goes nothing. I'll be fine, I'm far more worried about Seth, he hasn't been handling the night very well..." just as I say that I hear a voice and my heart nearly drops in my ass. Turns out I haven't been handling it all too well either, considering Sam's faint voice was enough to send me into cardiac arrest.
I take a deep breath, willing myself to actually say something to the potential presence keeping me company at the moment. Just then, the music box whirrs to life, playing its creepy tune for a good couple of seconds, as if encouraging me. "Hi, are you here in the hall with me?"
The answer is almost immediate as the music box comes to life once more.
"Were you a prisoner here?" I ask once the tune has stopped playing. I get no answer so I try again, "A guard?"
There it is, I think as the music creepily bounces off the walls in the quiet space. Sam has walked to a different part of the basement because I can no longer hear him. It makes the situation much more eerie, makes me feel much more alone.
I throw out a few more questions with no outcome that can be considered content worthy so I begrudgingly decide to relocate to somewhere else on the floor. Just as I grab he music box to turn it off, I hear a huge crash from upstairs and a string of curses that quickly get louder, accompanied with footsteps approaching the staircase behind me.
I quickly flick on the camera light, illuminating Seth who gallops down the stairs with inhuman speed. I barely manage to catch him, placing my hands on his arms in order to slow him into a halt and stabilize him. He's shaking like a leaf, his eyes are wide and his face has reached a sickly shade of pale.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, what happened?" I ask as I pull him into a hug, "Hey, you're ok, you're ok. Everything's ok."
I see Sam peep his head up from the staircase, coming up from the basement, alerted by the noise. "What's wrong?" He asks as he jogs over to us. Colby is nowhere to be found, clearly oblivious to what happened.
"I...oh fuck...." Seth mutters, his breathing still heavy, "I mean, I got what I asked for. I wanted a clear sign and a door slammed shut. It freaked me the fuck out." He explains, still extremely shaken up but a bit calmer as he clings to me.
"Ok, ok, well that's great." I see the conflict on Sam's face, balancing between excitement over the footage Seth captured and worry for his friend. "Are you alright? Take a breather, stay here. I'll go grab Colby and we'll do the Estes method when you're ready." He says calmingly, his gaze fixating on me for rational and coherent responses but all I can do is nod, my full focus is taken up by Seth.
"Yeah, yeah I'm good. Holy shit, that was insane, though." He manages to say, tapping Sam on the shoulder, "Go get Colby."
I lead my boyfriend over to the chair I was previously occupying and sit him down, crouching in front of him, "You captured something incredible back there, babe. You're incredible!" My hands rest on his knees as I too still am wrapping my brain around what happened just now. "Whoever was there with you can't hurt you. You're stronger than them and you have authority. Hey, they might like you, even! I barely got anything down here. The spirits must really like you to shut a whole ass door for you." I'm rambling, I'm aware, but it seems to be working since Seth is smiling now, some color having returned to his cheeks.
He lets out a chuckle as he runs a hand through his hair, "Well, I am the distant relative of a murderer. That's gotta count for something." He says, making me laugh.
"That's what I'm talking about." I smile up at him, my thumb drawing abstract patterns on his knee, relieved to see he's feeling better already.
"Thank you." He adds after a stretch of silence, "You're like my safety blanket." His hand cups my cheek, automatically prompting me to lean into his touch immediately.
"Happily, babe." I slowly rise up so I can lean in and meet him halfway.
Just as our lips are within a millimeter, we hear pure disbelief echo off the walls as two pairs of footsteps rush down the stairs. "A fucking door slammed shut?!!" Colby shouts breathlessly, causing us both to burst out laughing.

Demon Bait - Seth Borden X Reader
Tumblr media
SUMMARY - Turns out demons are drawn to you even more than spirits are to Seth
WARNINGS - established relationship w/ Seth and reader, demonic entities
WORDS - 1.4k
NOTES - this didn’t quite turn out the way that I had hoped but frankly I’m stuck on this one so hopefully its good enough for y’all lol (also I know the gif is being weird shut up)
~*~*~*~
It was something you had learned the hard way. For some reason, you seemed to be a magnet for demons. Every location that was said to have a demonic presence, you would be targeted by it. You couldn’t even make fun of Seth for being ghost bait anymore because you decidedly had it worse.
The house had been active since the moment you walked in the door. Most of it was knocking and footsteps, but the spirit box had also turned itself on in Sam’s backpack and emitted a tone that indicated a large temperature change. More concerning than anything was the constant presence you felt over your left shoulder the entire night.
You had stopped vocalizing most of the things you experienced, as the boys had started talking about keeping you out of potentially demonic locations, and you weren’t willing to be benched from any investigations. You only ever told them the small stuff anymore.
You had been investigating this house for around seven hours, and it was finally 3AM. The feeling of being watched had been growing stronger all night, and by now felt like there was someone – or something – standing a mere inch behind you at all times. You felt crowded, to say the least.
The demonic energy was said to be in the master bedroom on the first floor, something that your gut was telling you was true. Earlier in the night, you thought you had seen a shadow figure in this room, and you felt something tug at the back of your shirt as you walked out, as if something was trying to pull you back in. It was the last place you guys had to properly investigate, and you were planning to finish off the night with an Estes session.
“Are you sure you want to go under for this? You’ve been kinda spacey for the past hour. I don’t want this thing to get to you too much. I can go under if you’d rather sit this one out,” Seth offered. As someone who attracted a lot of paranormal attention, he knew something in that house had an eye for you. He had also done enough investigations with you that he was able to see when something was targeting you. It was scary enough being targeted by normal spirits, so he could only imagine how terrifying it would be to have demons attracted to you.
“I’ll be fine, babe. If I’m not, I’ll pull myself out. I don’t allow these things to harm me if I can help it,” you replied, taking the blindfold from Colby.
“You say that, but what if you can’t? What if this thing is stronger than you? It already said your name five times tonight. I don’t know if I like this.”
“Seth, I’m an adult. I know what my limits are. This is our last investigation. Tell you what, if you get too scared while I’m under, you can pull me out, okay?”
You and Sam shared the sentiment that, because there were a lot of reports of people being touched or grabbed while in the bed, that you would get the best results while laying on it for your session, although Seth made you compromise on the issue, and you ended up just sitting on it to appease him. He was always very protective of you while doing paranormal stuff, even before you had started dating.
A shadow figure, 8 feet tall and bending down sideways to look at you, showed itself to you in the doorway right before you went under.
“Begin.”
“Wow, immediately.”
“Speak. Now.” The putrid smell of smoke filled your nostrils. You scrunched your nose as it seemed to heat up your face.
“We haven’t even asked anything yet. That’s crazy.”
“Who are we speaking to?”
“You know me.”
“We know you? Is this Elizabeth again? We were speaking to you earlier.”
“You wish I…”
“Like ‘you wish I was Elizabeth’, as if what we’re talking to isn’t her?”
“That’s creepy. Tell us your name. Who are we talking to?”
“Are you scared yet?”
“Oh, fuck off, that’s not cool.”
“Borden. Fear.”
“Are you the demon that was said to make Elizabeth set the bedroom on fire?”
“Demon. Beelzebub.”
“We should stop talking to this thing. You know what happens when Y/N-“
“Not yours anymore.”
“I don’t think we should keep-“
“Wait.”
When your leg had started shaking, you hadn’t noticed. What you had noticed however, was just how lightheaded you were getting. You almost had to fight to keep your head up. The static of the spirit box was starting to lull you into a meditative state that blocked out even the ability to perceive the feelings in your own body. You took a deep breath and continued listening.
“I set the fires.”
“Fires, plural? Did you set multiple fires?”
“Different people.”
“You made different people set the fires?”
“Pyromaniac demon is a new one.”
“Maybe it wanted to recreate Hell on earth or something.”
“Yours. For you.”
“Our Hell? What-“
“Not leaving with you.”
“Correct, you’re not allowed to leave with us.”
“Can we talk about this really quickly? It makes people set fires, supposedly in order to create a personal Hell. For Elizabeth, it was killing her own sister, and it sounds like it’s made other people do the same.”
“You’re not understanding.”
“What are we not understanding? Help us understand, tell us what you want us to know.”
“You’re losing this one. Y/N. Leave us.”
“Fuck no, pull them out.”
“Mine now. Say goodbye.”
“Pull them the fuck out!”
The red light from the camera blinded you as the headphones and blindfold were ripped from your head. A pair of arms wrapped around you before you could completely remember where you were. All three boys were shouting, you assumed enforcing that whatever was in this house needed to leave you alone. Your head crashed backwards into Seth’s chest, giving yourself a moment to get your bearings back.
“Holy fuck, baby, your nose is bleeding.”
Your hand came away from your face coated in blood that you hadn’t even felt fall. Even under the red light, you could tell it was a lot. Sam rushed to turn the room lights on as Colby stopped recording for the moment. Your well being was now more important than anything.
The shadow figure still stood in the doorway.
“We’re being watched,” you told them, voice breathy and labored. “We need to leave. Now.”
~*~*~*~
It was raining outside, but none of you really cared. The cover over the porch provided just enough dry space for the four of you to use. They figured that, even if it wasn’t completely away from the house, it was still outside, which was safer than being in an enclosed space with whatever was going after you. Seth had you drawn into his lap facing him, checking your pupils and wiping at your nose every five seconds to make sure you were recovering.
“How are you feeling? How’s your head?” Colby asked, pressing the back of his hand to your forehead. You lightly swatted him away, feeling crowded enough by your boyfriend.
“Better. I’ll be back to normal in a couple days, but either I’m gonna sleep way too much or not at all for awhile.” You laid yourself on Seth’s chest as the exhaustion gripped your senses.
“You’re staying home and recovering for awhile. I don’t want you even mentioning ghosts for at least a couple months after this,” Seth declared. He rubbed up and down your back to the tempo of your tired breathing.
“Baaaaabe.”
“Don’t ‘babe’ me. You keep pushing yourself like this, you’re gonna land yourself in the hospital. This is too fucking dangerous for you. You’ll get a demonic attachment if you’re not careful.”
You knew he was right. You had always tried not to let your ability to attract demons scare you, sometimes to a reckless degree. If it were just about you, you probably wouldn’t care as much, but bringing something demonic home with you meant bringing something demonic home to Seth, and your last desire was to put him in any sort of danger.
“…Fine, but only because I like you so much,” you replied, a bit defeated. He squeezed you a bit tighter at that, feeling better about it already.
“Thank you, baby. Now, let’s get you some sage and holy water before we leave. Even I feel fucking unclean after that.”

SETH BORDEN - FINALLY
Tumblr media
I MADE THIS GIF PLEASE GIVE CREDITS. I saw no seth fics and he's so hot. So I decided to write one for those who wanted one! -
You didn’t remember how you ended up in the house of a Paranormal investigator. All you remembered was getting pushed to your death. You were fuelled with such hatred and revenge for whoever pushed you. That you didn’t even consider letting it go and head to the other side.
It was fun being a spirit. The look on people's faces when you moved things was priceless. That was until Seth moved in. He didn’t even have any reaction. He just made stupid excuses. It was so infuriating all you wanted was for him to give you attention.
As time did pass on. You were starting to become more and more obsessed with Seth. He was an attractive guy around the same age you would’ve been if you were alive. You wanted so badly for him to be attracted to you as well. But you knew that could never happen. He was alive, you were dead.
You would sometimes tag along with him to locations. Yes, you were attached to him, but it wasn’t like you were hurting him. You didn’t drain his energy except for small things like batteries. His mood didn’t even change.
It was like every investigation, but this one was different. You watched and observed what gave him a scare. Maybe you could do some at home to finally get him to notice you. That’s when you got the idea.
As soon as he returned to the house. You already had a prewritten message on the mirror.
‘I’m watching you’
It didn’t work all that well. He didn’t get the scare you wanted. He was shocked, but assumed it was his friends pulling tricks on him. You were starting to lose hope until you tried  sone last time. But this time so he can see it himself.
As soon as he entered the bathroom you wrote in red marker.
‘I like you, but I’m dead”
His reaction wasn’t what you wanted. You knew he wasn’t going to like someone who was dead. He immediately got spooked and left the room. You didn’t expect him to say anything back. But it would’ve been nice if he would’ve at least knowledge you.
Then, as a last resort. He went into the sight of a mirror once more. You knew this time would be different. After a few seconds of deliberation on whether or not to proceed. You knew you had to do it, and this was your last chance. So you appeared in front of the mirror like that unexpectedly and out of nowhere. His face became extremely pale, and his eyes slowly drifted to yours.
Finally

breaking the distance. |c.b|
Tumblr media
summary: You and Colby have been dating for nearly two years, enduring long distance and making the best out of time zones and chaotic work/ school schedules. The two of you knew one day the distance would be shortened to where there would be no more planes needed to see each other, and date night could finally be more than just facetiming and watching a movie together at the same time. One of you just happened to know it would be happening sooner rather than later.
~*~*~*~*~*~
No one ever expected Colby and I’s relationship to last, and I couldn’t really blame them. On the outside looking in, It seemed like it was a storm waiting to happen. Colby, a very well known social media content creator, constantly traveling and investigating new locations with his best friend in and outside the country, and lives on the west coast of the united states. Me, a non social media content creator, studying emergency paramedicine, lives on the east coast, and never even had a passport until two months ago. The main thing people always loved to throw at us was the distance. ‘Why date someone who lives a 5 hour plane ride away, when there’s plenty of people here in the same state for you to choose from?’
I personally didn’t fully expect us to be where we are right now when I met Colby over two years ago. It’s crazy how things happen though, how quickly you connect with a person. It’s as if I’d known him my whole life, as if I was connecting with an old friend I hadn’t seen in years that night at the bar. We talked and talked for hours, the rest of the crowded bar tuned out and all I saw was him. Colby and his friends he had traveled to the east coast with a few days later after we first ended up coming over to my apartment for a game night after constantly texting and getting to know each other more. Ironically, one of his friends that came with him, I knew from my childhood. Talk about a small world.
The buzzing of my cellphone in my hand snapped me out of the daydream I was in. A smile quickly spread across my face as I spotted Colby’s name on the caller ID before answering.
“Finally waking up, Mr. Brock?” I smiled as I held the phone to my ear.
“I’m so sorry beautiful, I slept through my alarm. I totally planned on waking up earlier to be able to talk to you in case you began to stress over your exam today.” His morning voice was something that always caught me off guard, the deep rasp. It always made me yearn for the day I’d be able to hear it in person, and not over the phone.
Of course over the past two years we’ve met up and spent time together, however it was usually when him and Sam were on a trip to film or when I had a small break between semesters at school and could afford to visit him.
“It’s okay Colby, I promise.” I smiled to myself and attempted to contain my excitement as I scanned the empty apartment once more. “I’ve been just cleaning and relaxing on the couch. I think if I tried reading any more of my textbooks my eyeballs might fall out of my head.”
Colby chuckled as my apartment door swung open, and I quickly muted myself as Seth, the friend of Colby’s that I’ve known since childhood came in. “Who’s ready to mo- oh shit, are you on the phone?” He quickly covered his mouth with a hand.
“Yeah, with Colby.” I giggled before giving him a ‘shh’ and taking myself off mute.
“You’re going to do great. You always do great. This is the final bridge needing to be crossed and then I’ll be able to have you in my arms every night and hear about the crazy encounters you have at work in person. God, I can’t wait for that to be real, beautiful. I miss you so much.”
“I can’t believe that it’s finally here. Just this semester and then I’m done, graduated, nationally registered to work anywhere in the country. By the way, My supervisor reached out to the base that’s not far from where you live, and they have an open paramedic spot that is up for grabs.” I bit my bottom lip and glanced at Seth who also shared the same nervous look.
I’ve always hated lying, and lying to Colby these past few months have been absolute torture. But he’s always the one surprising me, I wanted to finally surprise him. I ended up taking an earlier program that Colby didn’t know about, which allowed me to graduate and become a paramedic three months ago. However, Colby still thought I had another two months to go. During this time since finishing school, I’ve been working and studying protocols for the state I’d be moving to, coordinating with Sam on shipping my stuff to Vegas from New England without Colby seeing the boxes, selling stuff I don’t need to bring, and basically getting ready to move to Vegas. Of course, Colby knew this day would be coming, as we have a whole checklist we share on google docs to make sure we have everything lined up for when the day comes, He just doesn’t know it’s happening sooner. Or that I’m going to be there, in like 12 hours.
“Baby, Is it okay if I let you go? I can call you back later. I have to bring my phone to the apple store, I finally got an appointment to get my battery fixed.” I ran a hand through my hair, constantly reminding myself mentally the lying would be over soon.
“Oh good, I’m so glad you got that appointment babe, I have to get going anyway. Sam and I have to go meet up with some friends to film a video, but text or call me as soon as you finish your exam okay? I love you.”
After saying goodbye and hanging up, I groaned and laid back on the empty granite counter. “Dude, no wonder you hate lying. Thank god that wasn’t a facetime call or one look at your face and Colby would see your face and just know you were hiding something.” Seth chuckled and I flipped him the bird.
“Can we go get coffee before we head to the airport? This whole not having my own car thing sucks.” Seth chuckled once more before nodding and holding out his rental keys that I snatched out his hand before he could speak. “Yes, I’ll drive. You drive worse than my grandmother.”
~
“Now boarding Group A.”
“I’m really flying to Vegas without a return ticket.” I mumbled as I handed my ticket to the flight attendant at the gate. I glanced over my shoulder at Seth who stood behind me, laughing. “You’re finally moving to Vegas. Which means Sam and I won’t have to hear Colby talk about how much he misses your voice all the time and try to figure out what haunted places we could go see near where you live.”
“Are you sure he won’t question why my phone is off for over five hours? I mean we don’t talk on the phone all day every day, but we usually check in over text to say Hi and that we miss each other or something. I don’t think a phone battery replacement would take five hours.” I buckled my seatbelt once Seth and I got to our assigned seats. “You seriously worry too much.” Seth patted my hand as he smiled. “We’ve got it all figured out. He isn’t going to have any time to check his phone with what they’re filming.”
“This is going to be a long ass five hours, Seth. This is why teleportation should be a thing. I could already be there, with Colby.” I sighed as I turned to look out the window, anxiously tapping my foot on the ground. Seth laughed and out of the corner of my eye, I spotted him hold his phone out to take a photo.
“Don’t you dare post that.” I looked at him wide eyed, which caused Seth to laugh more. “Relax, It’s a video. For memories.” I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms across my chest. “Should I yell it out now that you’re a paramedic, just in case there’s a medical emergency?”
“Don’t you dare. I’m too nervous to provide any care, nor do I want to start my career as a medic off by taking care of someone on a plane. Why aren’t we moving yet?” I peered up and around the seats, huffing as I noticed not everyone was seated.
“God this is going to be so funny to look back on.” Seth mumbled as he put his phone down.
~*~
“I’ve got all your stuff in the storage unit, and your car should be arriving in the next few days.” Sam smiled as he drove Seth and I from the airport. Colby was back at the house editing and thinking Sam had just gone out to get food for the two of them. “It’s really good to finally see you, by the way. Colby is going to lose his mind.”
“I’m so nervous.” I mumbled looking out the window of the car and taking in the change of scenery. “He thinks I’m still in my exam right now.”
“Oh I know. Dude is a love sick puppy right now.” Sam laughs and gives me a smile. “Once we get to the house, I’m going to go inside to ask Colby to come out and help me grab some stuff from my car, but in reality it will only be you.” He added while Seth readjusted the camera on the dash of the car. I nodded and prayed we’d be arriving at the house soon.
Once at the house, I laid down in the back seat of the car to hide until Colby came out. “Yeah it’s on the passenger side in the back, If you can just grab it for me as well as the camera!” Sam called out, signaling that Colby was coming my way. Before I knew it, the door was swung open and I quickly sat up and smiled as my eyes landed on Colby. “Surprise!”
Colby stared in shock for a moment, eyes wide with confusion. Next thing I knew, He was grabbing my legs and pulling me out of the vehicle and up into his arms. My arms quickly wrapped around his neck, resting my head on his shoulder and wrapping my legs around him as he held me. “What is going on?” Colby yelled out, turning to glance at his friends back at the doorway before slamming the car door and moving so I was pressed against it and using one of his hands to pull my head back so he could see my face. “You have an exam?” His eyebrows furrowed.
“Baby.” I laughed softly. “Oh my gosh I’ve absolutely hated lying to you. I graduated early, That’s why I was so busy over break and couldn’t see you. I didn’t tell you because I wanted to surprise you by being able to finally be here sooner than you thought.” I cupped his face in my hands and blinking back tears as I finally got a good look at him. “I can’t believe I’m here.”
“I missed your graduation?” He frowned, resting his forehead against mine. “I’m so confused baby.” He quickly closed the distance between us and kissed me gently. “But dear god have I been dying to kiss you.” He mumbled against my lips.
“No, It was a winter graduation so there’s no walk you didn’t miss anything.” I kissed him once more. “But I’m here. no more distance. It’s finally broken.” I ran a hand through his hair as I stared into his blue eyes. Colby pulled me closer once more and began kissing me again, deeper this time before beginning to head towards the house. “You guys should probably head our for a while.” Colby mumbled as he passed Sam and Seth, his gaze still set on me. “Already planned on it. We’ll be back later. Welcome home!” Sam called out as Colby walked away from them, still carrying me. I let out a small laugh and began kissing Colby’s cheeks and playing with his hair at the nape of his neck.
“I can’t believe you lied.” Colby fake pouted as he gently tossed me on his, ours now, bed before climbing on top of me. “But it was so worth it.” He mumbled before kissing me. “Now it’s time for me to welcome you home.” He smirked.

Protected From The Paranormal
Paring: Nate Hardy x Gn!Reader
Fandom: Sam & Colby
Request: No
Summary: Nate is a protective boyfriend and worries about the reader while at the Sallie House with Sam, Colby, and Seth.
Tumblr media
We're all upstairs in Sallie's room talking when you all hear a noise in the hallway making me jump. Even though he was startled Nate protectively wraps his arms around out and ask me "are you okay?". I rarely go to haunted places with the boys because Nate being the protective boyfriend he is wouldn't let me. I manage to convince him to let me go this time because I knew a lot about the Sallie House.
I nod and tell him I am as I move closer to his side feeling safe in his arms. I followed Colby, Seth, and Nate to the next room while Sam went downstairs. That was until Sam yelled for all of us to come downstairs. Sam was freaking out because the 8 ball that was in Sallie's room was now at the bottom of the stairs and none of us knew how it got there.
I found it a little funny that Nate was blaming Sam even though they have been friends since they were 14. Little did we know that it was actually Seth's fault. He accidentally kicked it when he jumped at a noise.
It was decided that the 8 ball would be used while someone was under(doing the Estes Method). Sam went first. While Seth and Colby were asking questions Nate was talking to me and checking up on me. "Are you sure you're okay? We can go outside if you need. I can take you home" I smiled finding it sweet how worried Nate was about me.
"Nate, love I'm positive I'm okay. Just a little startled. If anything changes I'll tell you immediately, okay?" Nate relaxed a little "okay I just want to make sure my baby is okay". me and Nate stop talking after that and focused on the investigation. After doing the Estes method for a bit we agreed on going downstairs to the dining room.
Apparently, Sam and Colby had something planned, it was probably going to be interesting, to say the least knowing them. Turns out they wanted to throw Sallie a birthday party and even got a cake. Nate immediately said no because they didn't know what this would cause and he was worried about how it would affect me. He'd already refused to let me go in the basement with Sam and Colby.
Eventually, Sam and Colby talked him into doing it and letting you do it. "I'm questioning my life choices. I'm about to throw a birthday party for a demon child" Seth said causing us all to laugh. Nate had me sit on his lap so he could protect me if needed. Truthfully I think he wanted some comfort.
While singing happy birthday, we hear a loud bang and all quickly run over to the stairs and see that once again the 8 ball is at the bottom but this time we knew none of us did it so the only thing that could have done it was a spirit. While Sam, Colby, and Seth were talking I ran out of the house genuinely scared. Nate immediately followed, wanting to know what was wrong and if I were okay.
Once Nate had caught up he immediately wrapped his arms around me protectively while rubbing my back. "Why did you run out? Are you okay?" He asked. I could hear the worry in his voice. "The 8 ball coming down the stairs scared me. I'm scared but I'm okay." He kissed the top of my head
"Let's head back to the house and finish up and we can go home okay?" I nod and walk back to find Sam, Colby, and Seth coming towards us asking if I'm okay which I tell them I am. They could tell differently by how protectively Nate was holding me but they didn't question it.
We agreed to pack up and leave. Nate stayed by my side and wouldn't let me out of his sight. I found it really comforting. Once we got home we went to our shared bedroom and cuddled. I was still startled by what happened but felt better and safe in Nate's arms and he could tell. "Thank you for protecting me" I told him. "You don't need to thank me love. I rather you be safe and okay than anything else".

Attention Grabber
Seth Borden x Reader
Sam, Colby, Nate, Seth and Reader are doing an investigation. What happens when the Reader faints by Seth?
Content: established relationship between Reader and Seth, mentions of murder, evil beings, harm to people, sickly but mostly fluff for Seth.
If any of these things mentioned above makes you feel bad or something along those lines, please click away
Sam, Colby, Nate, Seth and I walked around the Villisca Ace Murder House before Sam and Colby started their video. The house had a very dark entity and it did well to make itself known. Even during just the tours during the day the guide explained that people would get scratched, pulled and sick.
"When we initially walked into the house I was like okay it's creepy in here, little spooky but I'm fine. When we went upstairs, it wasn't when we went into the parents room, it's when we walked into the kids room, I felt the same feeling in my back that I felt when I had that experience at the seance at the conjuring house when I got an attachment. When a spirit is trying to attach itself to you it starts by making like a back pain in the bottom of your spine and it goes all the way up. That's legit what I felt and I just felt that same thing upstairs." Seth begins their video by explaining how he felt during the tour.
"That's crazy because I noticed the shadows around you but didn't say anything because they didn't seem ill intentioned. There were three around us in the kids room and were trying to play. I don't necessarily think that they were trying to attach themselves per say but they did look very curious." I told the boys what I saw when we were touring. They all looked a little scared when I was finished but they nervously laughed it off. I thought it was hilarious because the kid spirits were super friendly. Yes they had a bit of sadness and anger but they were residual emotions from the murder.
"I definitely felt like how I did during the conjuring house." Colby added onto what Seth told us.
"To be quite honest when I was like alright we're gonna go to these haunted houses, alright, but compared to like Hell Week we're chilling. After all of these stories and interviews we've done today I'm like thinking this might be one of the more scary places we've actually been to" Sam confessed to us.
"Seriously it feels like it too." Colby responded.
"This feels like you walk into the room and there is a psychic oppression. I noticed (y/n)s shift of mood really quick." Nate noted. I got nervous for a second because I hadn't even realized I did that.
" I'm not trying to hype this place up for the camera. I'm being so serious right now, like I have not felt that feeling since I had thy experience. " Seth chimed in. Reconfirming that this house was full of bitter emotions.
"He said that this house was actually known for physical touch, scratches and things happening. Most paranormal occurrences are like sounds or like you see apparitions. This is physical it's different." Sam pointed out. He was right. Most paranormal occurrences don't result in poltergeist activity.
"Oh and what's freaky is its not even the axe murder that's freaky. It's the fact that there's an energy that's been here for a long time. But that entity is still here. So that technically means that the murder is still here. " Nate pointed out.
"You guys all have great points. Now let's see if we can get anything. But we have to remember, we were told that this entity, spirit, being, whatever you may call it. It is a trickster. We may not come to the official conclusion like we hope. " I commented. The boys all agreed but we are all in the best spirits to keep hope that we can help shed some bit of light on the story.
Time skip to after the attic Estes Method
"That was crazy. I feel like it's still with us. Maybe we should try to go down to the guest room to do another one. I feel sick being up here. Something definitely wants us to leave." I proposed. The boys agreed luckily and we left the attic. I was feeling dizzy. "I think I am gonna get sick. I need to sit." I announced. Seth looked very concerned. I grabbed ahold of his hand and sat down. I was about to talk about how I wanted to just leave because something wasn't right when the music box started going off. I stood up really quick because I was sitting right by it.
"It's like something was waiting for us to come down here. I feel genuinely sick being in this room. " Seth muttered.
"I agree. But I think it wanted us to retrace its steps. I think it's playing with us again. " Sam frowned. He was right. I looked towards the door again. I could see the figure there. It was then that I got a throbbing head pain. Not quite like a headache. It was way worse. My vision went blurry and then eventually went black.
When I woke up I was confused. My head was in a lap and my hair was being played with. I turned onto my back and saw Seth smiling at me. He looked so cute.
"You fainted straight into my arms. You know, if you wanted my attention that bad you could have just asked for it, you didn't have to go to such extremes. " Seth smiled when I looked away blushing.
"I wasn't trying to faint but we do need to get out soon. Did you guys get anything when I was out?" I questioned trying to change the subject. The boys nodded.
"Yes. I don't think you'll believe this but it couldn't be the rival because he was out of town. If we are thinking logical then it was Paul because of the identical crime scenes. If we are thinking more spiritually then it is the reverend. When we did the Estes method, the answers it would give us were too perfect. It would give us a trail and then cut us off. " Nate indicated that the spirit continued to mess with them.
"In any case I think we should leave. I know that we technically haven't come to a conclusion but the ghost wants us gone and I have a feeling the next attack won't be as kind to you guys. " I voiced nervously. Seth helped me up and we gathered our equipment up.
"Hey (y/n) have you scratched your leg recently?" Colby inquired. I shook my head as I looked down. I had three long claw-like marks from the outside of my calf leading to the top of my shoe.
"Ya let's get out of here quickly. Thank you for communicating with us but you may not follow us. You may not attach yourself to us. You have to stay here. " I headed towards the door and the boys followed me. "Thank you again Seth for helping me. I appreciate it." I confessed to him.
"It's honestly not a problem. I didn't want to see you get hurt. " he leaned down and kissed me.
"Awe what a cute way to end a horrifying video." Sam chuckled

With the assistance of her beloved grandfather, she guides the group (Sherlock, Esmeralda, Colonel Paddington, and Abatha) in their objective of solve crimes inspired by those of Jack the Ripper. When a series of grisly murders starts taking place in the San Francisco area where she leaves, she is fascinated by then and finds herself steering the group toward solving these real life murders.
But the game stops being fun when her mother, free-spirited Indiana Jackson, goes missing.
Beauregard, Aron: Playground
Three low-income families have been given a handsome retainer to join Geraldine Borden for a day at her cliffside estate. All the parents must do to collect the rest of their money is allow their children to test out the revolutionary playground equipment Geraldine has been working on for decades. But there’s a reason the structures in the bowels of her gothic castle have taken so long to develop—they were never meant to see the light of day.
When a band of dysfunctional children is suddenly thrust into a diabolical realm of violence, they must grow up instantly to have a chance at survival. Will they find a way to put their differences aside, or be swallowed up by the insidious architecture all around them?
Borges, Jorge Luis: Averroës's Search
The story very much reminds me of the domain in MAG183: Monument. "The story imagines the difficulty of Averroës, the famed Islamic philosopher and translator, in translating Aristotle's Poetics because he was not able to understand what a play was, owing to the absence of live theatrical performances from Averroës' cultural milieu, in contrast to that of ancient Greece. In the story, Averroës casually observes some children play-acting, then later hears a traveler ineptly describe an actual theatrical performance he once saw in a distant land, but still fails to understand that the tragedies and comedies of which Aristotle writes are a kind of performance art, rather than merely literature.
The process of writing the story is meant to parallel the events in the story itself; Borges writes in an afterword to the story that his attempt to understand Averroës was as doomed as Averroës's attempt to understand drama. "I felt that the work mocked me, foiled me, thwarted me. I felt that Averroës, trying to imagine what a play is without ever having suspected what a theater is, was no more absurd than I, trying to imagine Averroës yet with no more material than a few snatches from Renan, Lane, and Asín Palacios.""
Borges, Jorge Luis: El Aleph
I am not sure if this counts as it is a collection of short stories, so I will also submit my personal choice that best fits an unaligned Leitner in my opinion. "The title work, "The Aleph", describes a point in space that contains all other spaces at once. The work also presents the idea of infinite time. Borges writes in the original afterword, dated May 3, 1949 (Buenos Aires), that most of the stories belong to the genre of fantasy, mentioning themes such as identity and immortality."
Bosch, Pseudonymous: The Secret Series
The series is about two children who are not named Cass and Max-Ernest. Cass is a survivalist, while Max-Ernest has a condition (though no one knows quite what his condition is). One day, they are swept into the dangerous world of the Terces Society and the Midnight Sun...and the Secret.
Features alchemy, the quest for immortality, time travel, a very Lemony narrator, and the exploration of all five senses.
Breed-Wrisley, Kira and Scott Cawthon: Five Nights At Freddy's: The Silver Eyes
From the creator of the bestselling horror video game series Five Nights at Freddy's.Ten years after the horrific murders at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza that ripped their town apart, Charlie, whose father owned the restaurant, and her childhood friends reunite on the anniversary of the tragedy and find themselves at the old pizza place which had been locked up and abandoned for years. After they discover a way inside, they realize that things are not as they used to be. The four adult-sized animatronic mascots that once entertained patrons have changed. They now have a dark secret . . . and a murderous agenda.
Bulgakov, Mikhail: The Master and Margarita
One hot spring, the devil arrives in Moscow, accompanied by a retinue that includes a beautiful naked witch and an immense talking black cat with a fondness for chess and vodka. The visitors quickly wreak havoc in a city that refuses to believe in either God or Satan. But they also bring peace to two unhappy Muscovites: one is the Master, a writer pilloried for daring to write a novel about Christ and Pontius Pilate; the other is Margarita, who loves the Master so deeply that she is willing literally to go to hell for him.
Burroughs, William S.: Naked Lunch
It follows Bill Lee through Interzone: a surreal, orgiastic wasteland of drugs, depravity, political plots, paranoia, sadistic medical experiments and endless, gnawing addiction. The book is structured as a series of loosely connected vignettes, intended by Burroughs to be read in any order, and the main character takes on various aliases as he travels from the U.S. to Mexico, eventually to Tangier and the dreamlike Interzone. Burroughs wrote in his introduction that "The title means exactly what the words say: naked lunch, a frozen moment when everyone sees what is on the end of every fork."
Could this book be considered as being aligned to the Spiral? Could it be Flesh? I don't know, but it is certainly something or other.
Byng, Georgia: Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism
Molly Moon is a British preteen living in a terrible orphanage. Just before her only friend is adopted and moves to America without saying goodbye, she finds a rare book on hypnotism, and gains the ability to hypnotize anyone through eye contact and make them do whatever she wants. She heads off to America to find her friend, hypnotizing people all the way. Meanwhile, a sinister wanna-be hypnotist stalks her... and he is willing to do anything to get the book in his hands.
Sequels deal with further developing psychic powers, including body-hopping, weather control, and even time travel.
Carroll, Lewis: The Hunting of the Snark
An epic poem which hits quite a few different fears; the Hunt is an obvious one, and given the author, so is the Spiral. The sea voyage has elements of Vast, and various characters can be read as Flesh, Stranger, and even Web. The poem seems to end with the Lonely; " He had softly and suddenly vanished away — For the Snark was a Boojum, you see."
Denning, G.S.: Warlock Holmes
A Sherlock Holmes parody in which the titular detective is a rather abstracted mage, Watson is the brains of the outfit, and Gregson and Lestrade are an ogre and a vampire, respectively. Together, they investigate supernatural crime in Victorian England.
DeTerlizzi, Tony: The Search for WondLa
The Search for WondLa is the first book in a trilogy about a human girl, Eva Nine, in a strange and unfamiliar world.
She actually spends a lot of this book believing she is the last of her species surrounded by all sorts of strange creatures she can never quite feel close to (lonely, extinction) while being hunted by a trophy hunter who wants to give her to a mysterious queen.
On why it's Lonely: a large portion of the book is spent with someone she cannot communicate with and feels distant from, alongside the general Lonely vibes of "last human" stories.
On why it's Extinction: This is earth. A long-destroyed earth, specifically (she visits the ruins of NYC, I have proof), and these alien races have moved in now that the humans are all "gone" (complicated). It's heavily implied the earth was destroyed in some nuclear war or natural disaster, with the alien species having restored the earth from a wasteland.
On why it's hunt: she spends the entire book being hunted and being afraid because of that, what more do I need to say?
On why it belongs here: quite the fear cocktail for a children's book, isn't it?
El-Mohtar, Amal and Max Gladstone: This Is How You Lose the Time War
The novel is about two agents on rival sides of a time war, Red and Blue, who are both working to ensure that their respective futures — the highly technological Agency and the biological Garden — come to pass. Despite their opposing organizations, Red and Blue begin exchanging letters across time and space, and develop affection for each other that threatens not only them, but the entire time war.
Fforde, Jasper: Thursday Next series
Thursday Next lives in an Alternate History. In her world, Time Travel, cloning and genetic engineering are commonplace; resurrected dodos are the household pet of choice. The obscenely powerful Goliath Corporation, which nearly singlehandedly reconstructed England after World War II, now runs the country as a virtual police state. And literature, particularly classic literature, is very, very, very Serious Business. Writers are revered with nearly spiritual devotion, controversial claims about books and authors can be criminal, and an entire police squad, the LiteraTecs, exist to keep the literary scene in order. Thursday works for just such a unit in Swindon, with her friend and colleague, the exceedingly polite Bowden Cable.
In the course of rescuing her Gadgeteer Genius uncle Mycroft from international arch-criminal Acheron Hades, a gleefully evil individual with supernatural powers, Thursday discovers the Great Library, a sort of pocket dimension that exists 'behind the scenes' of all works of literature, where all literary characters live. They're self-aware, acting out their roles when a person reads a book but chilling out and living their own lives as soon as they close it. The Great Library is governed by the Council of Genres and kept in line by Jurisfiction, another police force whose task it is to make sure the plot of every book stays the same every time someone reads it. (Insofar as they can.)
Such is the universe of Jasper Fforde's meta-fictional masterpiece, the Thursday Next series. The author hangs a lampshade on everything and anything relating to classic literature, the tropes of police fiction and spy fiction, and even the relationship between a work of fiction and its audience. Heavy on wordplay and puns, the series deals with the tireless heroine's adventures balancing her work as an agent of Jurisfiction in the Great Library and LiteraTec in the outside world, to say nothing of her responsibilities as a wife and mother.
Gaiman, Neil & Terry Pratchett: Good Omens
Blank

you know why
Johnson, Jeremy Robert: We Live Inside You
"We are within you, and we are growing. Watching. Waiting for your empires to fall. It won't be long now. We are the fear of death that drives you and the terrible hunger that reshapes you in its name. We are the vengeance born from senseless slaughter and the pulsing reptile desire that negates your consciousness. We are the lie on your lips, the collapsing star in your heart, and the still-warm gun in your shaking hands. The illusion of control is all we'll allow you, and no matter what you do... WE LIVE INSIDE YOU"
This book is one of those story collections that everybody should read. In turns fascinating, poignant, scary and all too human, Jeremy Robert Johnson taps into the nightmare psyche that threatens to eat you every moment of your life. Each story highlights another gremlin that snacks on your nerves, tells you things you don't want to hear.
Langlois, Amelie C.: The Sister Verse Series
John, an unstable detective living in an alternate future, is plagued by hallucinations of a malevolent, shapeshifting entity, known as the Lord in White, that haunted his childhood. While he struggles to maintain his grip on reality, he soon discovers that his world is a terrifying illusion designed to make him suffer. Surreal, horrifying, and unflinchingly brutal – enter a world of blood and fear. Enter the Sister Verse.
The series reads like a fever dream. The world reflects the fears of all the characters in the most bizarre way possible, and things continue to unravel the further they go, typically ending in a forest made of liquid meat that surrounds a black hole shaped like a willow with teeth. It is revealed in the first book that the whole reality John and the rest of the cast of characters live in and themselves was created by the Lord in White for his own amusement. The Lord in White is completely aware that it’s in a fictional universe, and is implied to have the power to rewrite parts of the story, being the avatar of the Sister Verse. It often refers to the reader directly, as well as real world occurrences and future in-universe events, to the point that it literally recites lines from the book. And that's just the first book in the series, with the Lovecraftian horror continuing further in the sequels as the past of the Dreadlands is revealed, along with the past of its characters.
Lewis, C.S.: The Silver Chair
"Eustace and Jill escape from the bullies at school through a strange door in the wall, which, for once, is unlocked. It leads to the open moor...or does it? Once again Aslan has a task for the children, and Narnia needs them. Through dangers untold and caverns deep and dark, they pursue the quest that brings them face to face with the evil Witch. She must be defeated if Prince Rillian is to be saved."
Lovecraft, H.P.: The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath
Uncelebrated writer and illustrious dreamer Randolph Carter dreams three times of a majestic sunset city, but each time he is abruptly snatched away before he can see it up close. When he prays to the gods of dream to reveal the whereabouts of the phantasmal city, they do not answer, and his dreams of the city stop altogether. Undaunted, Carter decides to use all his talents in the dream-world to find the legendary mountain Kadath, where the wiser Earth Gods live, in order to ask them for the location of his beloved sunset city. He initiates a quest through the depths of the Dreamlands, finding the weirdest things and meeting the strangest friends and foes.
Unknowingly to Carter, a powerful entity is bent on making him desist of his quest...
Lubar, David: Weenies series
A series of horror story collections for kids which range from the funny to the weird to the outright twisted.
Lyons, Steve: The Crooked World
Synopsis: The people of the Crooked World lead an idyllic existence.
Take Streaky Bacon, for example. This jovial farmer wants nothing more from life than a huge blunderbuss, with which he can blast away at his crop-stealing nemesis. And then there's Angel Falls, a racing driver with a string of victories to her name. Sure, her trusted guardian might occasionally put on a mask and menace her for her prize money, but that's just life, right? And for Jasper the cat, nothing could be more pleasant than a nice, long nap in his kitchen — so long as that darn mouse doesn't jam his tail into the plug socket again.
But somebody is about to shatter all those lives. Somebody is about to change everything — and it's possible that no one on the Crooked World will ever be happy again.
The Doctor's TARDIS is about to arrive. And when it does... That's all folks!
Propaganda: okay. okay okayokayokkay. I can be normal about this book (a lie). The TARDIS lands on a planet that operates on cartoon logic. The Doctor immediately gets shot in the chest and everyone is very confused when he doesn't immediately heal. The travelers have inadvertently introduced the real world into this Saturday Morning fantasyland, with concepts like death and sex and social inequality. For the first time, people can die permanently. The two-bit villains unite to nuke the heroic characters. The Scooby gang actually do discover the flayed corpse of God. In the middle of it all is the Doctor at maximum Nyarlathotep, fomenting revolution and drastic metaphysical upheaval in his strange, too-real clothes. If nothing else, vote for this book for actually making me cry over the death of Scrappy Fuckin' Doo!
Nash, Ogden: A Tale of the 13th Floor
A poem which warns against murderous retribution and illustrates the hellish fate of killers tied forever to their victims in the afterlife. Link: https://allpoetry.com/A-Tale-Of-The-Thirteenth-Floor
Osman, Richard: The Thursday Murder Club
“In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet up once a week to investigate unsolved murders. But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron might be pushing eighty but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves. Can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer before it's too late?”
While it seems like a shoe-in for the Hunt with tracking down who did the crime, the book goes in areas that could consider being touched by the Lonely, the End, and the Eye. After all, this does take place in a retirement village — people die, people are lonely and these four senior citizens want to get to the bottom of this mystery.
Pinkwater, Daniel: Alan Mendelsohn, the Boy from Mars
Leonard Neeble has been unhappy since his parents moved from the big city to suburban Kangaroo Park, New Jersey. His new school, Bat Masterson Jr. High, is terrible, and he has no friends since his classmates are snobbish louts who won't be friends with him because he's portly.
Things change once a new student shows up from The Bronx: Alan Mendelsohn, a trollish student who shuts the school down by telling everyone he's from Mars. After they both get suspended for acting out, the two boys journey to Downtown Hogboro, where they start a Mind Control course that teaches them telekinesis and, eventually, how to travel between dimensions.
Pirinçci, Akif: Felidae
Francis is a cat who has moved with his owner to a city in Germany. There, he comes across a mystery involving the murders of several neighborhood cats. Think Warriors, but it is a murder mystery written for adults. It has a lot of Slaughter and Hunt going on, but the killer's motives and backstory would honestly make him a prime Avatar for the Extinction.
The serial killer, Claudandus aka Pascal, is purely motivated by a deep hatred of humans after a traumatic past as the victim of some truly sadistic animal experiments in which he and other cats were used as lab rats, which leads him to try to create a race of "genetically perfect" cats while murdering those he considers to be inferior. He dreams of a future in which humans have been replaced as the dominant species by this future breed of cats, the narration even including an imaginary scenerio of the very last human trying to hide in the ruins of civilization before being hunted down like prey.
Rix, Jamie: Grizzly Tales For Gruesome Kids
A series of cautionary tales for lovers of screams! Getting a haircut? eating spaghetti? Having a birthday party? You may think these all sound like very ordinary things to do. But read on and see just how grizzly they can be!
Scieszka, Jon: The Stinky Cheese Man
it scared the FUCK out of me as a child, I have no idea why and I don't remember what it was about, and just its art style still creeps me out and I'm in my thirties now. That's got to count for something, yeah? ...okay this prolly isn't a great one for the tournament, but if you're struggling to fill in the brackets.
Shannon, David: No, David!
When David Shannon was five years old, he wrote and illustrated his first book. On every page were these words: NO, DAVID! . . . and a picture of David doing things he was not supposed to do.Now David is all grown up. But some things never change. . . .Twenty years after its initial publication, No, David! remains a perennial household favorite, delighting children, parents, and teachers alike. David is a beloved character, whose unabashed good humor, mischievous smile, and laughter-inducing antics underline the love parents have for their children -- even when they misbehave.
Sims, Jonathan: Thirteen Storeys
"You're cordially invited to dinner. Penthouse access is available via the broken freight elevator. Black tie optional.
A dinner party is held in the penthouse of a multimillion-pound development. All the guests are strangers - even to their host, the billionaire owner of the building. None of them know why they were selected to receive his invitation. Whether privileged or deprived, besides a postcode, they share only one thing in common - they've all experienced a shocking disturbance within the building's walls.
By the end of the night, their host is dead, and none of the guests ever said what happened. His death remains one of the biggest unsolved mysteries - until now.
But are you ready for their stories?"
Skipp, John: Don't Push the Button
We all know horror. It's in our face every day. You can try to negotiate the nightmare but total chaos and destruction is just one button-push away.
In this intensely personal collection of short stories, screenplays, and essays, the author walks you through the light and the dark with an unflinching eye. Revealing both the best and worst of us, one laugh and scream at a time.
It ain't pretty. But it's beautiful. Once you go all the way.
Stine, R.L.: Goosebumps
It is a series of horror novels written for very young audiences. The protagonists in these stories are teens or pre-teens who find themselves in frightening circumstances, often involving the supernatural, the paranormal or the occult. The best way to describe these books is that they are The Twilight Zone for pre-adolescents, with a twist at the end of every book (sometimes cruel, sometimes not, sometimes non-existent, which is a twist in and of itself given the series). It has spawned a pair of television series, a video games series, a comic series and merchandise, as well as a pair of feature films.
While the books are written for children and so they might not be that scary, they can still get quite creepy, and you might find one book for every Entity if you search hard enough. The book covers can also get really creepy to look at, too.
Theis, Jim: The Eye of Argon
Described as "the worst fantasy novella ever", The Eye of Argon is a story by then 16 year-old Jim Theis. It's the tale of Grignr, a foul-mouthed barbarian warrior who is trying to escape the dungeons of Evil Overlord Agaphim and rescue a young woman named Carthena from a pagan cult who want to sacrifice her to their idol — a statue with one eye called "The Eye of Argon". (A "scarlet emerald", complete with some interesting plumbing.)
Published in the fanzine OSFAN 7 in 1970, the story is well known for its abundant cliches, shoddy spelling, flat characters, wooden dialogue and overly colourful writing. Every woman is a "wench", eyes are "emerald orbs". Almost nothing is ever "said" — instead it is "queried" or "ejaculated" or "husked" or "stated whimsicoracally". There's an extended scene involving elderly cult priests groping Carthena, and she is described earlier as a "half-naked harlot… with a lithe, opaque nose".
The most widely-known and circulated copy of the story comes to an abrupt and unsatisfactory halt, and for many years it was believed that the ending was lost forever (or even, in some quarters, that the story was never completed). Recent years have seen the separate discoveries of two intact copies of the fanzine in which The Eye of Argon debuted, so it is now known how the tale ends. (With multiple exclamation marks, it turns out.)
At science fiction conventions, The Eye of Argon is now a sort of parlor game. All participants sit in a circle with a hard copy of the story, and the first one starts reading aloud — pronouncing every word as it's misspelled, and including every adjective. When they finally burst into laughter, the copy is passed to the next person. If a person manages to make it through more than a page, the copy is sometimes passed anyway, on the grounds that the reader must have special training as a news anchor.
Tokuda-Hall, Maggie: The Mermaid The Witch and The Sea
Follows mainly two characters – Evelyn, the daughter of a wealthy family, sent off on a ship to an arranged marriage, and Flora, known by the alias Florian, a pirate on said ship. This ship is a conship, as it takes people on long travels only to sell them as slaves. Themes of the vast, stranger, the end, the slaughter, and the desolation are commonly present throughout the book
Traditional (German): Der Struwwelpeter
1845 German children's book filled with cautionary tales. These cautionary tales are more grim than others, however — they often end in death or dismemberment for the child. They are a source of plenty of nightmare fuel, too.
Notable examples: The Dreadful Story of Harriet/Pauline and the Matches - Desolation, she plays with matches and burns to death. The Story of the Wild Huntsman - Hunt, a hare steals a hunter's rifle and eyeglasses and hunts him. The Story of Little Suck-a-Thumb - Flesh(?), Conrad is warned by his mother not to suck his thumbs, but he does anyway. So a tailor appears and snips them off. The Story of Flying Robert - Vast, Robert goes outside during a storm and the wind picks up his umbrella, carrying him off never to be seen again.
Trumbo,  Dalton: Johnny Got His Gun
It follows a young man named Joe Bonham, who, after becoming grievously injured during World War I, is left deaf, blind, dumb, and without any limbs. Throughout the novel, Joe reminisces about the life that he's lost, waxes philosophical about war and conscription, and tries desperately to communicate with the doctors keeping him alive.
The novel is heavily about the horrors of war, which would make it Slaughter, but in Joe's plight there's also another sort of horror: He can't move, he can't see, he can't speak. He is effectively trapped in his own body, a torment that could be but it's not quite Buried. There's also some argument for the Spiral to be there as well, as his condition makes it hard for him and the reader to know when he's awake or when he's dreaming, to say nothing on how the horrible situation he's in affects his sanity.
"I don't know whether I'm alive and dreaming or dead and remembering."
Van Allsburg, Chris: The Mysteries of Harris Burdick
Downloadable PDF: https://mrsgraveswebsite.weebly.com/uploads/1/2/6/8/12686140/the_mysteries_of_harris_burdick.pdf
The Mysteries of Harris Burdick consists of a series of images, ostensibly created by Harris Burdick, a man who has mysteriously disappeared. Each image is accompanied by a title and a single line of text, which encourage readers to create their own stories.
Vasquez, Jhonen: Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors
Squee (named after the sound he makes when he's afraid) is a little boy whose short life is an unending parade of horrors. His parents outwardly detest him to the point where his father watches footage of his birth played in reverse for amusement, and the only kid in school who likes him is the Antichrist, who Squee is terrified of. He has never, ever, ever, had a good dream. Through the course of the book, he is visited by aliens, ghosts, zombies, time travelers and the serial killer next door.
Though Squee is as frightened by all this as anyone else might be, he takes it in his stride with a passive resilience that only a child could possess and the help of Shmee, his teddy bear and 'trauma-sponge.' He gets through the horrors just by being a simple-minded kid. Adults dwell on the past and the future. Kids live squarely in the present, daydream about flying and drink Tang until they forget it all. He takes for granted that the world is scary and just goes to school each day, provided he hasn't been abducted by aliens.

"You're really not going to tell me how you got Maisie to trust you enough to open up about Meghan?" I asked, discarding a useless three of clubs down on the bench between us. It had been over an hour since we ran into the mysterious Maisie. After a while of me sitting and fidgeting and looking suspiciously like I was jonesing, Seth dug out a deck of cards from his grocery bag and we were now three games into a Gin tournament.
Seth took a moment to move his cards around. "Your tender virginal ears couldn't bear the sensual details." He discarded a six of hearts.
My brow rose. "You used sex in exchange for information?" I almost couldn't believe it.
"See? The very idea makes your head spin, my prudish little friend."
I scowled. "I'm not a prude, Seth. Virgin, maybe, but I've been around the block a time or two. What surprises me is that you're not."
Seth leaned back, aghast. "Beg your pardon, fella; I happen to be very popular with the ladies. Cougars, particularly, like Miss Maisie back there. They just devour my boyish charm." He smiled broadly as if to flaunt said charms.
I snorted. "I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume the other night wasn't your first time hanging around here."
"And you would be correct," Seth said, lowering his gaze back to his hand. "You gonna make a move, or what?"
I picked up his card, arranging it in my hand. "Well…?"
"Well, what?"
"You and Maisie. What's going on there?"
Seth shrugged, picking up my discarded two of spades. "I'm a refreshing break from the skeevy old men who leave the money on the nightstand on their way out the door."
Never, in a million years, would I ever think to discover this startling revelation about one of my good friends. Then again, we didn't often talk about such things. Meaning relationships. Which, I suppose this would fall into that category. My fraternization with Meghan seemed to be the catalyst to jar that particular topic of interest. Their desire to know the dirty details of our interactions only made their own love interests fair game. Already startling truths were being revealed.
"So, you've actually… with her?"
"Done the dirty? Sure." Seth admitted it so casually, like it was no big deal for a 15-year-old kid to have sex with a lady of the night. Like it wasn't illegal, forget about immoral. But, when put it into the perspective of where we were and why we were there, I really shouldn't be as stunned as I was.
Still, I fell into contemplative silence, mulling over this idea of my friend – who was younger than me – having done more with a grown woman than some guys older than us have done. Than I've done. And I thought I was hot shit for hitting the sexual milestones I had. But my contemplation over Seth's sexual escapades took a dark turn when I considered Meghan being the one subject to those things with the skeevy old men Maisie dealt with. The thought of them touching her in places I never dared sent an explosion of rage through my veins. I couldn't bear being inside my own head anymore with this knowledge of Meghan working this very street. With what little I knew of the situation, I was able to conjure up every filthy scenario of her being groped, abused, assaulted, molested, and even raped. It scared me to death while at the same time fueling my protective instinct that used to be solely reserved for my mother. That uninhibited need to prevent the bad things from happening or to go head to head with them when just stealing her away wasn't an option. I felt that familiar tension building in my shoulders now.
"Ty. Hey, man." Seth nudged my hand. "Your go."
"I'm done playing." I said, my tone implying I didn't just mean our card game.
"Look. I know it's not right, but we're two consenting people and I don't appreciate you judging me for it." Seth said, his voice clipped as he gathered up the cards.
I realized then that he thought my abrupt change in demeanor was because I didn't approve of his lifestyle. "I'm not. It's none of my business. I appreciate you looking into Meghan for me, but now that I know… I just can't stop thinking up all of these terrible things happening to her. She's not like you, or Maisie. I can guarantee her consent is not given freely."
Seth visibly relaxed, his defensive expression softening. "I just hope we can do something to actually help her. "
"Me too." I ran a hand anxiously through my hair. I wasn't sure how much longer I could wait before succumbing to my own imagination and losing it completely.
"Hey, watch this." Shuffling through the cards, Seth selected three then set the rest aside. Settling himself on the edge of the sidewalk he laid the cards out before him. Lifting each in turn he showed them to me. Queen of hearts, five of diamonds, and ten of spades. "Follow the lady." With the dexterity of a casino dealer he shuffled the cards around and around until satisfied then gestured for me to choose.
Huffing a sigh, I humored him and pointed to the center. His mouth quirked as he lifted the card to reveal the ten of spades. "I made two hundred bucks one afternoon playing this game downtown. You'd be amazed how flustered people get when they think they are being clever. They just kept throwing money at me to best themselves." He revealed the Queen then set her back down to shuffle again.
I didn't bother to wager any actual currency, knowing full well I was not in any state of mind to follow a fake lady when my thoughts were reaching toward a real one. My attention wandered to every vehicle and person that came our way. It didn't take Seth long to get bored of my half-hearted guesses.
"You gotta stop looking so suspicious," he commented, picking up the rest of the cards and giving them a hard shuffle.
"Aren't we suspicious enough loitering on this bench at this time of night?" I was waiting for the cops to pull up and ask just that. What answer could we even give them?
Seth shrugged. "No one really asks questions this part of town. But you looking around like that will for sure draw some unwanted attention."
"I can't help it." I leaned back to stare down at my shoes.
"There you go; that's better. Down on our luck and despondent is what we're going for."
I shot my friend a glance in the form of an eye roll. The click of heels drew our attention then as Maisie sauntered up with another young woman – not Meghan, to my dismay. She brushed Seth aside to sit between us, gesturing to her companion. "This is Clara. She's another novitiate." I hoped she meant to use that particular term ironically.
Clara smiled softly at me, not sparing Seth a glance. I smiled back to be polite, but my attention wandered to Maisie. "Have you seen Meghan?"
"You're Ty." It was Clara that spoke, commandeering my focus. I assumed she learned that from Seth, or from Maisie who learned it from Seth.
"Yeah." I curbed the rest of that sentence. They all knew why I was there; it seemed like a waste of breathe to ask again about Meghan. If I took away anything from that evening it was to be as discreet and cryptic as possible. Anyhow, my impatient expression was sure to speak for me well enough.
Clara's smile only widened at the affirmation. "Come with me." She stood, grabbing my hand as she did to pull me up with her.
I threw a confused glance over my shoulder to Seth, allowing myself to be pulled to my feet but no further. My friend only nodded in encouragement and tossed me his deck of cards that I caught against my side. "Follow the lady."
Unsure what to make of his double entendre, I figured I trusted Seth this far, I might as well go all the way. Pocketing the cards, I let Clara pull me down the street.
"Put your arm around me," she insisted when we paused at the corner to cross.
"What?" Startled, I tried to pull my hand from her grasp but she tightened her grip.
She finagled my arm to drape across her shoulders, tugging me closer into her side. She wrapped her arm around my waist as we crossed the street, ducking her head against my chest as she laughed. "Look like you mean to be here. We're going to meet your lady friend, but we can't look conspicuous. Pretend we're headed some place for a good time." Despite the giggle in her voice, her words were firm. Understanding, I let my rigid posture melt, leaning into her a bit and even fabricating a stumble to feign intoxication. This made Clara laugh for real. "That'll do, Pig."
I let her guide me, trying to pry what bit of information I could through slurred murmurs into her ear. But she was hesitant to divulge the plan in open space where anyone could be lurking. The most I got was that we were going to a motel. The sight of it made my stomach clench. I'd been in motels like this one before where nefarious activities were being conducted right beneath the nose of the greasy-palmed night managers.
I watched, eyes wide, as Clara dug into her cleavage to extract a key and unlock one of the rooms. She didn't explain. I didn't ask.
Immediately, I scanned the room hoping the door would open to Meghan sitting on the bed waiting for me but the room was empty. Clara tugged me in, roughly shoving me down on the bed with a giggle and nudged the door closed with her foot. Utterly stunned, I caught her at arm's length before she could dive on top of me. If this was Seth's way of trying to make me get over Meghan, I was going to be sincerely pissed off. But Clara was pulling out of my grasp to approach a door within the room I initially assumed was the closet. She knocked twice with her ear pressed to it before there was a click and it opened a crack. I jumped up, craning to see who she was speaking to in hushed tones when the door opened wider and she stepped through. My heart jumped into my throat when Meghan came from the other side, her back to me as she eased the door quietly shut and locked it.
I stood frozen, staring at her back. I refused to allow my eyes to trail away from the bare skin of her shoulders. She was wearing a halter top and a skirt so short I was frantically trying to erase the slight curves of her ass cheeks peeking through the bottom of my vision. That same male part of me I was loath to admit reacted to such atrocities came to life as it had before. I swallowed hard, wishing for once I wasn't such a hormonal teenager and willing it away before Meghan could turn around.
Too late.
I stood straighter, clasping my hands in front of me to try and hide my shame as not to make her feel any worse about herself than she surely did. My eyes widened at the sight of her. I'd never seen her in make up before, except for concealer. But even that couldn't cover the black and blue painting the side of her jaw.
"What do you want?" Her voice shook and just like that I had nothing left to hide as I let my hands fall to my sides.
"You look…" I wasn't sure how to finish that sentence without sounding like an asshole. She didn't look like the Meghan I remember. Not just the skimpy attire but her hair so tightly curled and half knotted onto her head while the rest brushed her bare shoulders. Gold hoops hung from her ears, but it was the purple smoky eye shadow that drew my attention to her light eyes. I had to choke down the word "hot" pretty hard when Meghan's expression steeled.
"Like a floozy," she finished.
I blinked. "Um. I was going to say older."
"Same difference." She crossed her arms, waiting for me to answer her initial question.
I moved closer, pausing when she stiffened. My heart sank. Were we back to that now? "I was worried about you. I came to make sure you were okay."
Meghan's jaw popped. "Does it look like I'm okay?" She snapped, making me wince. Of course she wasn't okay. I knew even before seeing her she wasn't going to be okay. Nothing about this was okay.
"I needed to see you," I continued, desperate to find some bit of the relationship we tried so hard to hold together. "I was scared when I hadn't heard from you for so long and I knew better than to try to make direct contact after what happened last time."
"Okay. You've seen me. Now, if you'll excuse me I have a client." She turned to go and in a burst of panic I lunged for her arm to prevent her from doing so. Unfortunately, I hadn't thought about what I was doing until it was too late and Meghan was wrenching herself from my grasp, reeling away from me in utter fear.
I let her go, throwing my hands in the air. "I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that. Just, please, don't leave."
Folding her hands around her arms, Meghan closed in around herself, breathing heavily and not meeting my eye. "Please. I-If you're afraid of losing money I'll pay for your time."
Once again I realized my error too late as Meghan flashed me a scathing look. "Fuck you, Ty."
I didn't think my heart could sink lower, but was still insulted she would even consider I thought that way. "You know I didn't mean it like that."
She breathed out a sigh. "I know. I'm sorry. It's just if I don't leave this motel with payment this time Daddy will turn my whole face purple."
"Daddy?" I asked, assuming she meant her stepfather but still finding the new title for him rather disturbing.
Meghan's face reddened as she dropped her gaze and shifted uncomfortably. "That's what he demanded I call him when I'm... working."
I tried not to let my nausea show too plainly as I reached for my wallet, pulling it out along with the deck of cards. Digging through the folds I took out all the cash I had, counting it quickly. "I've got thirty-six dollars." I glanced up cautiously to meet her dismayed expression.
"That won't be enough." She shook her head, glancing toward the door where clearly a bigger pay day awaited her. Or rather Daddy.
Suddenly, Seth's parting "follow the lady" popped back into my head as I fingered the deck of cards. Flipping open the top I pulled them out to find two hundred dollar bills next to the Queen of hearts.
I held up the cash, silently thanking Seth for his master planning. "How about two hundred and thirty-six dollars?"
Slowly, a small, dare I say relieved, smile crept across Meghan's blood red lips.

Hiii could i request a nate hardy x reader for the video in the Yorktown Memorial hospital?? People have had like earrings ripped out and i was thinking maybe on the solo investigations the reader gets their earring ripped out and scream and nate freaks out?? srry if it’s too much details 😭😭
Hi sweetie! Thank you so much for your request, hope you enjoy how I've executed it ❤
Tumblr media
Hostile Presence
Pairing: Nate Hardy x Reader (Gender Neutral)
Warnings: Paranormal Investigations, Aggressive spirit activity, Minor blood warning, Swearing
Genre: Hurt/Comfort, PRF (Real Person Fic)
Summary: see request above
The light from the camera covers less than seven feet ahead, just enough to light the group so you are visible on video and nothing more. Everything around you is washed out in complete darkness. Your eyes are playing tricks on you each time you try looking past the circle of light and try to pinpoint where the random noises you're hearing are coming from.
Shadows are merging and forming rather terrifying shapes, footstep-like sounds are echoing off the walls and the five of you have to maintain some sense of calmness. Still, none of you can remain completely still when a particularly loud crash comes from behind you, causing all hands to lift off of the planchet as all five heads turn to seek out the source of the terrifying sound. What you all fail to see is the few millimeters the planchet moves without any sort of physical contact from any of you.
"Whaaat was that....?" Sam rarely lets the fear he feels bleed into his voice but it's clear he is pretty shaken up.
And so are you, past the point of being able to express it into words. You'd be completely freaked out had your boyfriend Nate not been there. His unoccupied hand has been comfortingly resting on the small of your back, letting you know that despite how charged things get, you're safe and have him by your side.
Suddenly, you hear what you can only describe as a heavy sigh directly in your left ear. Startled, you whirl around to look at Seth, hoping to God it was him you heard but your hopes are quickly nipped in the bud when you see he's taken a few steps into the darkness, shining his phone flashlight around the vicinity to see if there may be a bat flying around, making all these sounds.
Before you can raise your concerns regarding the strange noise seemingly only you heard, you feel a sharp sting in your ear, causing you to hiss through your teeth.
"Oh shit!" Just as you reach up to touch the aching spot you all collectively hear a clink of something small hitting the floor. Looking down to find the dropped item is futile considering you see nothing but darkness.
However, a quick touch to your earlobe and a flash from Seth's phone confirm that your earring has somehow unclipped itself and fallen from your ear.
"No fucking way!" Nate is the first to voice his confusion and shock as he bends down to retrieve the small earring and examine it between his fingers. "It's not even unclipped! What the fuck?!"
Pulling your hand back, you find a small droplet of blood on the tip of your finger, "Oh my fucking God...." You can't even find it in you to panic out loudly the way it sounds in your head. Instead, you're barely stringing words together, muttering them semi-cohesively.
Luckily, Nate is quick to pick up on what's put such a tremor in your voice. And hands, and entire body at this point. "Fuck....ok....Hey, hey, hey, let me see." He can see the pure panic that's hollowing out your gaze into a thousand yard stare. He's doing his best to keep you grounded and stable while he too is shaking. He moves your hair to the side to have a look at your ear, wiping the little blood that's left. "What just happened...?"
"Didn't he say people would have earrings ripped out on tours and stuff?" Colby asks, referring to their tour guide who is still hanging around outside the premises in case of emergencies, "This place is known for physically hostile activity." You try and focus on the rationality of his words and calmness of his tone but your heart is thumping too loud in your ears to be able to hear anything else.
It only slows down once you feel Nate's arms wrap around you, your cheek resting on his chest. You hear his own heartbeat racing, pounding against his ribcage but it is a calming sound you can focus on rather than your heavy breathing. Focusing on any of your overdrive-set bodily functions would be a recipe for disaster.
Instead, you find comfort in Nate's warm and safe embrace. You can barely make out the reassuring words he's whispering in your hair but just hearing his voice and knowing that he's got you no matter what, it's enough to slowly settle your heart into a somewhat normal rhythm.
"It's ok. You're ok, baby. I'm here." It may take a minute, but you will, indeed be ok eventually. Your three best friends and your boyfriend are here for you and although they can't physically do much to protect you, the emotional comfort is more than enough for you.
"I know, I know..." You mutter, your voice muffled by his shirt but he still manages to hear you, acknowledging your statement with a kiss to the crown of your head.
In a couple of days it'll be nothing but a cool story to look back on and tell people. In a week you'll once again visit another haunted place with Nate, Seth, Sam and Colby. In a year you'll have forgotten it. Or maybe not.
Then again, how many people can say they've had an earring ripped out by an angry spirit?

Up Top! - Seth Borden X Reader
SUMMARY - You and Seth have developed a… unique high five
WARNINGS - none
WORDS - 1k
NOTES - This is actually something I used to do with a friend of mine. I thought it would be cute to write. Also Chase is in this one
~*~*~*~
Neither of you were sure how long you had been doing it, but by now it was practically automatic. Every time you and Seth got excited, you would… well, it wasn’t quite a high-five, but that was the closest approximation you could make. You got a few odd looks and laughs the first couple of times, but at this point you got looked at funny if Seth’s palm didn’t collide with your forehead when you two were hyped up about something.
At least part of it was due to your height difference. Being shorter than him, you had already become his designated armrest, so it was no real surprise when he started joking about your height by holding out his hand to high five you right at your face height and you just… smacked it with your forehead in spite. It was goofy, and the fans definitely loved it.
You, Seth, and Chase were filming a video for Chase’s channel. It was a quiz challenge thing, all the questions coming from Twitter fans asking you about details of your past videos that you were likely to get wrong. The two losers of the challenge had to dye a strip of their hair whatever color the winner decided. Two of you were gonna end up matching, and as funny as the concept was, you’d rather not let either of them decide what colors your hair was.
“I fucking knew it, too! My first fucking thought was, ‘oh it was definitely my green hoodie’, but then you started talking and I started doubting myself! Motherfucker,” you exclaimed, sinking into the backseat of the car. You put your head in your hands, annoyed by the laughter coming from the brothers in the front seats.
“Haha! I messed with your mind!” Seth laughed.
Y: “Guys, this man in gaslighting me! I have it here.”
S: “Alright Chase, your turn.”
C: “Damn, alright. Hit me.”
S: “What was the name of the man who was rumored to have hung himself at the Shanley Hotel?”
C: “Ah, fuck. How am I supposed to remember that? We filmed that a couple months ago.”
Y: “Even I know the answer to this, and I haven’t even been there yet.”
S: “How the fuck do you know then?”
Y: “I watched the video! I was interested in the lore! It was new information!”
S: “Fuckin’ nerd, alright. What’re you a fan or something?”
Y: “Oh, I’m so sorry for supporting you and your career, Jesus.”
S: “Ok Chase you’ve had plenty of time to come up with an answer. What do you think his name was? Like, honestly, if I didn’t have the answer right in front of me, I don’t think I'd be able to answer this one.”
C: “Fuck, um… David or somethin’? I don’t know!”
S: “Final answer?”
C: “I guess? I really don’t know.”
The smirk on your face grew to a grin as he answered.
S: “Wrong, it was William.”
Y: “Get fucked! Oh, I knew you weren’t getting that one.”
S: “Now you two are tied.”
C: “One of us is gonna lose.”
Y: “Seth is already losing this one.”
S: “Yea, there’s no way I’m wining. I’ve only got two questions right.”
Y: “Should we do a tiebreaker? One question, and whoever gets the answer right first wins?”
C: “Oh, yea. We gotta find a question both of us could answer, though.”
S: “Alright, I’ll look. Give me a second.”
You and Chase relaxed for a moment, avoiding opening your phones in case you came across the same question that Seth could ask you. Chase turned around in his seat when he heard you chuckle to yourself.
“What’s funny?” he asked.
“Oh, nothing. Just deciding what color would look best on you two.” He rolled his eyes at you, his competitive side coming out full force now that it was down to the wire.
“What makes you think you’re winnin’?” You folded your arms over your chest in defiance.
“I’ve watched the videos multiple times. I know what the fans have seen.”
S: “Okay, shut up. I’ve got the question. At the Hatfield Estate, what did the ghost of Arnold whisper in Josh’s ear?”
Y: “Oh, shit! Fuck, I know this!”
C: “God, what was it? I was standin’ right next to him when it happened, too. Damn it…”
S: “You guys get thirty more seconds before I need an answer, right or wrong. Whoever gets closest, I'll take it.”
C: “God, was it ‘come find me’? I remember it was a little kid sayin’ it.”
S: “That-“
Y: “No! It was ‘over here’ because after we started freaking out about it the REM pod started going off in the other room! Like it was trying to show us where it was!”
S: “Yea, that’s correct, actually. Chase, you lost.”
You were practically jumping in the back seat from excitement, cheering at Chase’s distraught state. Your hyper reaction was infectious, and Seth stuck his arm towards the back seat for a high five. You threw your head forward, your forehead making contact with his open palm.
S: “Let’s go! Good job.”
Y: “I fuckin’ knew it! Now I have to decide on a color.”
S: “Wait fuck I forgot I have to do that. What the hell am I celebrating for?”
The three of you wrapped up the video, opting to post pictures of you dying their hair as well as the final result on instagram later.
“How many edits do you think we’re gonna get out of the high five this time?” Seth asked, knowing full well there would be some made within an hour of posting the video. There were always at least a couple when you two did that. The fans loved your silly little habit. They thought it was really cute and endearing, and frankly, so did you.
“Oh, plenty. It’s been at least two months since we did that on camera. They’re gonna eat that shit up.”
“Will you two just fuckin’ date already?”
“Chase!”
“Shut up, bro!’

SEPARATED - Seth Borden X Reader
Tumblr media
SUMMARY - During a solo investigation, Seth comes into contact with a spirit that wants to harm you while you are three floors away from him. He needs to check on you
WARNINGS - very briefly proofread (yes that is a warning)
WORDS - 2.1k
~*~*~*~
Seth was getting more comfortable with the alone investigations. They still freaked him out a bit, owing to the fact that those investigations tend to leave people feeling incredibly vulnerable. Safety in numbers, and all. He also still had trauma from being grabbed twice in the Conjuring basement. Frankly, one of the things that kept him calm was your attitude about the investigations.
You had ways been a go-getter when dealing with the paranormal. Of course, you always took proper precautions both before and after you had been at any location any of the boys took you to. You were very good at swallowing your fears for the sake of the investigations and have (on more than three occasions) run directly towards some sort of perceived danger in an attempt to catch something on camera. You were seemingly fearless, something that Seth admired about you. He was trying to be more like you, though his anxiety got the better of him sometimes.
The hospital that Josh had brought you to had seven floors. This was the second night of the investigation. The night prior, the three of you had done a walk through and attempted an EVP session on each floor. Some floors didn’t seem to be active at all, while others felt they had something much more sinister lurking around.
“Okay, what do you guys want to bring? I’m taking the DR60 to the children’s floor. We got a lot of EVP there yesterday,” Josh said, taking the device from its box. Seth pulled the spirit box from the bag, and you followed by retrieving the Alice box.
“First floor seemed the most calm last night so I’m staying here. I’m not dealing with any demonic shit tonight,” Seth said. You rolled your eyes at him, turning on your camera.
“God, you’re such a baby. I’m taking fourth floor. Hopefully I can actually catch that door slam this time,” you declared. Seth looked at you with wide eyes.
“You’re insane. I don’t understand how you haven’t had an attachment yet.”
“I always get sick evidence. You can judge when you capture a shadow figure as clear as I did a few months ago.”
“They got a point,” Josh cut in, throwing his bag over his shoulder. “Everyone ready?”
~*~*~*~
The fourth floor was designated for the psych ward, back when the hospital was operational. The guides that you had taken the tour with yesterday said that the energies on this floor were more demonic, given how violent they typically were. You wanted to test a theory about that tonight. Something told you that the energies were just the violent patients. They were treated horribly when they were held in this hospital. A fair amount of hostility was to be expected.
“Okay guys, so I’m on the fourth floor, which was the psych ward, and I’m completely alone tonight. I have the… Alice box with me. I really want to figure out if its truly demonic, or if it's just violent spirits. Frankly, I just think it’s the patients because it didn’t feel very demonic to me. Now where do we want to go first…”
There were a few spots that felt the most active to you, including the reception area and the singular children’s room, where the guides said they had watched a ball roll on its own only a few days ago. The most unnerving was the isolation room, where they would lock up the most violent patients for up to three weeks at a time. There were multiple recorded suicides in that room alone, which earned it the name of the ‘suicide room’. It was the room that the door had slammed closed on the previous night. If you were going to get any activity, it would most likely be there. The Alice box beeped in your hand as soon as you touched the door.
“Hunger.”
“Hunger… there were rumors that the staff would borderline starve the patients as some fucked up punishment when they were annoyed with them. Did the nurses not feed you while you were locked in here?” You placed the camera on the edge of the bed and crouched in front of it, keeping the device on the floor in front of you.
Beep. “Rare.”
“They rarely fed them. God, that’s so fucked. I’m so sorry that you were treated like that. You didn’t deserve it. I heard that there were patients that killed themselves in here. Is that true. Did you commit suicide in this room?”
Beep. “Stop.”
Beep. “Rude.”
“Was that rude to ask? I apologize, I just want to know your story. People should know how badly these nurses treated you. You deserved better.”
Beep. “Get out.”
Beep. “Room.”
Beep. “Mine.”
“Guys, I don’t think I’m very welcome here. Can you at least tell me your name before I leave? I’d like to know who I’m talking to.”
Beep. “Fuck off.”
~*~*~*~
“Alright guys, so I am on the first floor, which was where they had the emergency rooms and ICU, and they also did a lot of like, the lab work down here. Now, according to the guides, these two rooms right here are where they would keep the bodies of the recently deceased until either they were identified by a family member, or they would just stay here until the morgue had the space for them.”
A chair was sat in the corner of the room, the only piece of furniture in the space aside from the shelves drilled into the far wall, where Seth placed the camera. He sat in the chair, turned on the spirit box, and started his session. Static filled the empty room, echoing off the walls.
“To any spirits that reside in this room, the next room, or even any of the spirits on the entire first floor, if you would like to communicate, please feel free to come into this room and talk to me. I’d love to hear your story.”
“Hi, Seth.”
“Hello. Are yo-“
“Help.”
“Do you need help. Are you a patient here? If you were, can you say-“
“Yes I am.”
“ ‘Yes I am’. Do you need me to get you a nurse?”
“I’m dying. Seth.”
“I swear it just said-“
“Danger. Y/N.”
~*~*~*~
Beep. “Demon.”
“Well that’s comforting. Okay, you obviously don’t want to really communicate with me, so I’m leaving. Is there anything else you’d like to say to me before I leave? This is your last chance to… get a message out….” A wave of dizziness hit you halfway through your last sentence, leaving you to place a hand on the floor to stabilize yourself. “Shit, I’m lightheaded. I’m gonna have to take a second. This isn’t a good sign.”
Beep. “Die.” A loud slam echoed through the room as the door swung shut next to you. Your head snapped up to check the viewfinder, smiling to yourself as you realized that was most likely caught on the camera. The dizziness doubled as your vision started to go white, leaving you completely doubled over on the floor.
“Oh, motherfucker. Leave me alone. Get away from me right now. You do not get to affect me like this. If you want me to leave, then let me!”
~*~*~*~
“I don’t fucking like that at all. Are you saying that Y/N is in danger? Is there something that is going to harm them if they explore the psych ward alone?”
“He’s angry. Run away!”
“Who is angry? Tell me what’s gonna happen to Y/N.” Seth’s leg started shaking now, and his free hand pressed itself against his mouth as the anxiety crept in. He already didn’t like the alone investigations very much, but to hear what sounded like something threatening you made him all the more scared about it.
“Suicide. Help.”
“Will they be in danger if they go in the suicide room?”
“Too late. They’re dead!”
“Okay, fuck no. I’m going up there. That floor scares the fuck out of me but if something’s threatening them, I’m not letting them stay up there alone.”
“Y/N.”
“Nope, nope. I’m turning this off. We’re going upstairs, now. Y/N! Y/N!!”
~*~*~*~
Your ears had started ringing. You had turned the Alice box off to cut off communication with whatever was targeting you. You had tried the door, but due to the original purpose of the room, it could only be opened from the outside once fully closed. You had also tried to call either Seth or Josh to come get you out, but inexplicably, your phone had died. You had entered the room with 73% battery, and now it wouldn’t even turn on. The room was also soundproofed on the inside, and the boys were each three floors away from you, so shouting wouldn’t help. You were trapped until they realized you were missing, and you had all agreed to spend an hour apart.
“You have no real power over me. I am stronger than you. If you want me to leave, you have to leave me alone. I can’t walk out of this room if you keep making me… this dizzy… Christ, I’ve never had a room spin this fucking much in my life.”
Beep. “Scream.”
“What the fuck? I turned that o-… I think I just heard footsteps outside, holy shit.” You pressed the heels of your hands to your eyes in an attempt to stop the spinning. You turned the Alice box off once more.
“Y/N! Y/N/N, where are you?”
“Oh thank fucking god, it’s Seth. I can hear him, but I don’t think he’s gonna hear me. I can try…” You shuffled over the door, relying on touch to find your way. You pounded your fist on the door, wincing at the volume. The footsteps grew closer, as did his voice.
The door flew open, and instantly, your head cleared up. You breathed a sigh of relief as Seth’s terrified expression came into view. The smile that spread across your face did a good job of confusing him. Your hand made its way to his cheek. You were incredibly thankful to see him. He put down the camera to give you a once-over, making sure you weren’t physically harmed.
“God, I’ve missed your stupid face. Get me the fuck out of here.”
~*~*~*~
“You will not believe what I-… what happened?” Josh became concerned as soon as he saw you and Seth huddled next to each other on the lobby couch. Seth was still very shaken by what happened, while you were just relieved to be back to safety. He tucked the DR60 in his pocket and walked over to you, camera still rolling.
“I may stick with a buddy for the next few investigations,” you laughed softly, resting your head on Seth’s shoulder.
“They got locked in the fucking suicide room and almost passed out,” Seth explained. His hand made soft passes over your back. You were incredibly worn out from the whole experience, and it took a lot of effort to keep your yees open for very long.
“Holy shit. That’s terrifying.”
“Something was warning me about it on the spirit box, dude. I ran up there as soon as they started saying they were in danger. They would’ve been trapped in there for almost an hour if I hadn’t run up there.”
“See, because I thought I heard the door slam from upstairs but it sounded like it could’ve been on my floor so I didn’t know. Oh my god, that’s crazy.”
After Josh told you about the sheets moving and EVP of children crying he got on the top floor, the three of you decided that you had enough footage for the night and quickly filmed the outro outside the front doors of the hospital. As you packed everything into the car, Seth wrapped his arms around you.
“Good god, Borden. I’m fine. I feel like that freaked you out more than me,” you teased, turning around to return the affection.
“It said you were gonna fucking die! It scared me!”
“Well, too bad for you. You can’t get rid of me that easily.”
“I’d never want to get rid of you. I kind of like having you around. Don’t know if you’ve noticed.” You laughed at his words, pulling away to finish packing up.
“In that case, we’re sharing a bed tonight because I’m sure you don’t want to sleep alone tonight and Josh snores like a motherfucker,” Seth said. You both laughed as you heard Josh’s protests from the driver’s seat.
“Aww, Seth. You know, if you wanted to cuddle, you could’ve just asked.”
“Shut the fuck-“
