quick aside

pk;ap L / pk;autoproxy latch - makes all your messages automatically proxy

pk;config autoproxy timeout off - disables the timeout on latch. preference thing. helps us with our forgetfulness. you can instead specify a duration for it to timeout too if you need

❌ react - deletes your message

pk;rp (name/id) / pk;reproxy (name/id) will resend a message under the specified proxy. use the reply function to specify older messages (it will get fussy about this)

pk;s servertag (text) - will attach a secondary label shared across all members in your system, specific to that server. pk;s tag (text) will set a global one.

pk;m displayname / pk;m servername - these allow you to use a different name or have nicknames if you want. helps if you have a short member name for the reproxy command and set it to display the full length

pk;e (edited text) - replaces the text of your message with whatever the new one says. use reply to specify, it is extremely fussy and mostly sucks

Saw a bad take on the discord parent control so I'm adding my opinion which is always correct (<- for tumblr users this is a joke)

I think it's a great idea. Discord never wanted kids on their platform, but they couldn't stop it without adding so many verification steps it drives away their userbase. They were looking for a way to add parental supervision without parents having the ability to overstep

Prefacing with this even though I want to make this point second so there's a greater chance it gets read but. They can only see who you're dming, if you're talking in a group. They can only see the names (and when you message a group dm). There's very easy ways to hide/cover up stuff, they can't see the actual message content. So if a kid's forced to add that, they're not gonna get outed, or sensitive information an abusive parent shouldn't know get seen. Usernames and servernames can be changed. I don't like they they can see When a kid is messaging stuff to a group, but everything else is so easily hideable

And I think the way they finally went about it is genius actually. Because kids Need privacy and a third space to explore who they are n stuff away from their parents, eith the distruction of social places for kids this is the best theyve got. BUT also their parents can kinda keep an eye on them from a distance, monitoring not to close like a parent sitting on a bench at the side of a park, and step in if there's real legitimate danger that a kid can't handle on it's own.

This parent survalience is designed for kids like, 14 and younger. And you may think "oh, but shouldn't their parents just keep them off it? Keep a better eye on them?" Kids are sneaky. It's important to build trust with them. They need a safe area to take risks and scrape their knees when they're young but also a safety net so they don't break anything. Also with the state of capitalism and all that parents Can't constantly watch their kids every move because their is physically not enough time in the 24 hour cycle.

In the spirit of "just keep them off the app!@!!!" would you rather a parent go over all their apps and messages and lock them out of things, seeing everything, or a parent just have a little dash they can check in on their kid with, not Really invading their privacy?

It'd be abuse in a romantic relationship yes, but watching out for your child at this level is not abuse in a parent child relationship. Guys do you know what nuance is.

And for those of you saying "but I have secure folders and apps hiding my apps from my parents!!!!!" THIS IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM THEN!!!!!!! YOUR PARENTS DO NOT KNOW YOU HAVE DISCORD!!!!! You can still hide the fact you have the app guys

This is a much needed safety net for younger kids and very easy to get around for kids who the information they share in there might ut them at risk if you'd Fucking Read

updating my "resvim" script to support changing working directory and i've come across an interesting design choice to make:

the script checks for "-d" flag as $1 and passes $2 to vim remotely

vim --servername MAIN --remote-send ":cd $2<CR>"

however, because the remaining file arguments are relative to the shell's working directory, invoking it from idk ~/Documents as

resvim -d ~/Projects/Foo bar.c baz.c

results in vim changing to ~/Projects/Foo but trying to open ~/Documents/bar.c and ~/Documents/baz.c

so, my options are:

leave as-is (in case you wanna open files from your shell's PWD but change vim's PWD; also makes dealing w/ relative and absolute paths easier)

force file arguments after a '-d' flag to be relative to that directory ONLY

add a new flag that specifies files are relative to the path provided by '-d'; otherwise, leave as-is (potentially simplifies things re: option 1)

oh, i should mention this is fully POSIX-compliant shell despite it being unlikely i'll need it to be portable (plus it depends on dtach and currently i3 soooo) and just as unlikely anyone else would use it d:
