“BWAHAHA-HA- GEPPIE??? SHY?!?”

Serval’s cackle echoed through the building, laughter building as she practically keeled over her desk, fist smacking the wood as she totally failed to contain herself. Wide, emerald eyes blinked at the outburst, slight shock echoing in Sampo’s face as his ramble was completely interrupted.

It wasn’t unusual for the two of them to hang out- Sampo had to get his useless pining out of the way somehow, and Serval was always willing to get more ammo against him- both of them were fully on the “fuck the government” side, and were naturally drawn together in their stark differences from their respective backgrounds.

But normally, she just rolled her eyes at Sampo’s whined out pining- not fully bursting out into cackling laughter. She was struggling to catch her breath, to, completely lost in the utter hilarity.

“You- wheeze- you did not just-” Finally pushing herself upright, tossing her hair out of her face, she took a deep breath. “-just call Geppie shy. We talkin bout the same guy here? I thought you were all over my brother~!”

He had, in fact, called Gepard shy. His exact words were “the gentle, quiet and shy Captain-” before he got brutally interrupted- and the confusion and surprise must have shown on his face because as Serval calmed down, she blinked.

“..oh my god. You actually think hes shy.”

“Well, can ya blame me?! The guy is so quiet, and he's never in the cityyy~! If I didn't know better, I'd think he was avoidin lil ole me!!” Sampo bemoaned, leaning into his palm. But still, he was caught off guard- he had heard all sorts of things about the beloved Captain of the Silvermane guards, and one of the most common sentiments among the wandering people of Belobog was that he must be shy- he rarely shows his face, after all, always out on field. Almost a sort of enigma, who you'd be lucky to see on patrol in the city, who’s touch most constantly whispered over- the betting pools in the ranks over Gepard were insane.

And yet, here he was, with Serval Landau looking so offended at the mere thought of her younger brother being shy.

“Dude- Geppie?? We talkin bout the same guy here?? Sure, maybe when he was a kid, but hes looonnggg since outgrown that!” Setting aside her work, Serval deemed this conversation fully worthy of her attention- this was something she had to set right. “Where’d ya even get that idea??”

“Garnered general opinion- the people are always talking, yknow!”

Serval just snorted at that.

“And ya believed them. Qlipoth give me strength- Geppie. Shy. Shy.” Another snort. “He ain't shy in the slightest. If he wants somethin, he’s askin for it. He's the strongest force a nature I've ever met- ‘n I’ve met alotta people!”

A wrench got waved at Sampo’s face, Serval leaning on her elbow atop her workbench. Snow gently fell out her window, the closed shop refuge to only the two of them in this storm.

“Sure, hes never loud. Unless hes barkin out orders. Observational type, yknow? Like you. But thats a far cry from shy. By Qlipoths name, he's a military captain. If he was easy to mess with, he’d be- well, he’d be dead.”

Something flickered in Serval’s eyes. Blue, icey, reflected back at the world with a burning passion- with pride.

“That man is one of the reasons Belobog still stands as it does today. He is one of the most competent, trustworthy, straightforward people I know, if not the. Do not disrespect him by assuming his weakness."

Okay— but Sampo would totally be happy for you. And he’s also really happy. Like you’re yelling your lungs out. Singing screaming— it does not matter. Both of your throats are GONE by tomorrow.

Speaking of— Sampo probably almost made you two late. By accident. He just kept forgetting things or tried buying stuff.

It’s fine, after the concert he was a gentleman with guiding you back to the room. You both knock the fuck out though. Your heads hit those pillows and you were GONERS.

It’s NOT Gepard’s first concert. I refuse to believe that man has never attended any of Serval’s concerts. He’s got the best tickets, the best placing, he knows when to get ready and when to go— Dawg is your best man to be with for concerts.

He’s not good at singing, but fuck that. You’re both singing and losing your voices. Both of you are standing and fucking rocking out to the music.

And if Serval is trying to get people onstage?? SHUT UP, YOU TWO ARE TRYING TO GET THE OTHER ONSTAGE. It’s such a funny mess because you guys are too high on energy and pointing at one another.

Doesn’t matter— neither of you are chosen. But that’s okay bc you two are laughing so hard and leaning against each other. Like jfc you guys lost a lung AND your voices.

Gepard had to awkwardly tell Bronya that he couldn’t make it to work today. Why? Oh… you know. No voice, haha.

At first, this man is QUIET. He’s nodding his head to the beat, but that’s it. It isn’t until later when the energy is really out there, that you catch him standing.

He probably doesn’t yell or scream like you, March, and Stelle. Dawg probably smiles like a dumbass though and is shaking his head. You guys won’t have voices for shit tomorrow. That’s okay, he can help soothe your sore throats in the morning.

He won’t admit it (he does but not verbally), but he enjoyed the concert. Like he loved seeing you guys let loose and go wild. Makes him feel like shit is gonna be okay.

After the concert is so funny tho. March is riding that energy high, Stelle wants to devour food (and probably inedible stuff), and you’re slowly crashing. So he’s got you leaning against him while trying to convince the other two to get back to the hotel room.

He’s semi-successful.

NOW JING YUAN— I am so biased towards this man. You guys don’t even know.

But he’s slightly unsure what to do, but whatever. He’ll follow your lead.

Fuck the before— DURING?? His hand is hovering over the small of your back. Any open drink you have is covered so it doesn’t spill on your outfit. He’s watching out for you with the softest and happiest smile. Because he’d trade the world for you to be this carefree.

You’re yelling, screaming, singing— you definitely have a sore throat. But that’s okay. He’ll take care of you. He promises.

Bro probably is laughing and smiling so hard. Like— you take his hand and start scream-singing the lyrics and he’s for it. Do that sway stay-in place dance with him. Please. He’s overjoyed every time you face him with that smile.

Okay, but afterwards, he’s probably still dealing with lingering energy. You two are clearly dropping in energy levels, and he’s urging you to the hotel room. Saying stuff “we can see it tomorrow, just rest for now,” while helping you deal with a very sore throat.

For Blade? Good luck. I actually don’t know how you’d get his ass to go. But if you do, you’re the safest motherfucker there.

Your drinks? Safe. Your items? Safe. You? Safest person to exist. He’s responsible for your ass now… much to his dismay.

I don’t have a good grasp of his character yet, but I think he’d be a bit irked. Irked… but slightly smug knowing you chose him over Kafka and Silver Wolf. Because, hey, that’s shit he can say he’s done that the other two haven’t.

Oh, but he’s so over it at the end. “Get your merch and let’s go” type bs. Literally picks you up and makes his way to the hotel room— bc we all know he wouldn’t settle for some cheap ass hotel. Dude made sure it was nice enough where there was two beds and easy to secure.

You probably had at least one argument the entire day. Maybe more bc it’s Blade.

It’s fun though bc you’re smiling and don’t put up that bad of a fuss. Especially when he tosses you onto the bed and almost threatens you to sleep.

You knock out about thirty minutes after.

Blade just lets you sleep and debates if he wants to let you deal with that sore throat or not. (Spoiler; he doesn’t)

i know we joke that welt is a grandpa (because he is), herrscher shenanigans make me think he doesnt look much older than his early 40s (in alien space he canonically looks really young for a professor which is why i think theres some aging shenanigans occurring)

nat basically raised seele and seele is a young woman so nat has to be at least 40

i feel like as the resident milf and dilf gallagher and yukong are self explanatory

jade is a senior in the ipc and that doesnt happen over night, plus it seems like she was already fairly senior when a (potentially teenage?) aventurine met her

blade was old before he was de-aged and idk why the powers that be would be worried about youthful beauty so i think hed have gone back to his physical prime rather than early adulthood, and all the best blacksmiths ive met have been late 30s/early 40s

kafka imo is close to 40 because i like to hc that she mostly raised us

i just like the idea that a pretty blond twink can be pushing 40

serval is old enough to be friends with someone's mother, but bronya wasnt adopted as a baby so i think theres some wiggle room with cocolia being slightly older than serval that could plausibly put her in the early 30s bracket

all the xianzhou natives (homo celestiae) i imagine would stop aging entirely in their early-mid 30s. fu xuan is just short (sidebar, i have many questions about the xianzhou world building but thats for a diff post)

ruan mei could be a xianzhou native but personally i rather interpret her as a normal abundance abomination species since she has a home 'planet' and not a home 'ship'. anyway her aging is probably screwed in a similar way to xianzhou natives regardless since she seems a similar age to herta, who is over 200

himeko because i feel like she's older than her hi3 version

i didnt pay that much attention but i vaguely recall ratio being especially accomplished for his age, which makes me think he's fairly young, along with aventurine

asta is renowned enough to run a research base, so i would imagine shes old enough to have a phd

gepard only seems to be a couple years younger than serval

topaz also is notably young to be in the position she is

silver wolf noted to not be a child anymore, which makes me think she's only recently an adult.

trailblaze trio all come across as younger adults, although i imagine dan heng is slightly older than the other two, and march is the youngest

sushang came of age recently as per the letter from her mother, and gui is her bestie, so theyre probably similar ages

arlan imo isnt massively young, hes just transgender

i feel like xianzhou native aging slows exponentially until it stops which is what makes me think qingque is in her early 20s physically despite being over 100 years old

firefly's body slowing down over time probably includes aging so although she's old enough to be in glamoth's iron cavalry, i imagine she's physically fairly young looking

pela is canonically 16 and lynx is her best friend

these guys all strike me as being early teens (what with yanqing being 14 and the rest sharing a height and a model with him)

~~ ”You mind telling me what the hell happened back there?" Sampo asked, sitting on his side of the table. You looked up from fiddling with your ring, one Gepard had given to you all those years ago that you continued to wear absentmindedly for aesthetic purposes. You couldn't read what his eyes were conveying to you. Anger? Worry? Jealousy? Intrigue, perhaps? Maybe a combination, to be honest. "Why were you giving that Silvermane dude 'goo goo' eyes, huh?"

Your mind ran back through the events of just a few minutes ago.

(Earlier)

"(Y/N)?" Sampo's gaze kept shifting from you to Gepard and back in an almost frantic manner, before waving his arm in your face.

You didn't want to look up at the man you already knew was standing before you, but you just couldn't help it. He hadn't changed one bit. His hair was still a shiny, bright blonde glistening in the Belobog sun. It looked soft as ever, part of you wanted to brush your fingers through it once again.

Don't even get started on his eyes..

His diamond, baby blue eyes..the ones that used to make your heart melt, still had their effect.

"Um, hello?! Earth to (Y/N)!" You blinked, snapping out of your daze. You just couldn't believe he was right here. Standing in front of you. Staring at you.

You almost didn't pay attention to lover until Serval came up behind you, headed towards her brother.

"Geppie, hey! You're much earlier than expected. Why don't you come in? Haha, it's been a long day hasn't it." She said, putting an arm around him and practically ushering him inside the shop.

"Um, I..." Was all he could say. You moved to the side of the doorway, eyes not leaving his gaze until Sampo finally shut the door.

"That was Serval's younger brother..." You began. "We grew up together alongside Serval and Cocolia." You finally put the ring back on your finger firmly and left it alone.

"You mean the Silverman Captain is related to your bestie over there at the shop?" You nodded.

"Yea." You paused for bit watching his reaction before continuing to speak. The waiter finally came over and brought your menus before the conversation continued.

"Thank you, sir." Sampo told the waiter. "Well, that explains it. Who would've thought little bro would've become such a big deal in the Overworld, am I right?" He seemed slightly more relaxed at this news, which only made you stare at the table in worry. You almost couldn't focus on the menu.

After deciding on what to order, you decided to finally reveal a last bit of important information as the waiter brought brought water for the two of you.

"He's also my ex." Sampo, mid-sip, choked and nearly spit out his freshly consumed water into your face. "Sampo! Are you ok?!"

After composing himself and placing the glass back on the table, he finally responded.

"He's your what?!"

"Yup."

"I'm sorry, I think I misheard you. I thought you just said that Silvermane Guard is that ex you've told me about before." He just stared at you, hoping that you would, in fact, correct him on what he understood now to be true. "Let me get this straight, Gepard?"

"Yup."

"Is a captain of the Silvermane Guards."

"Yup."

"Gepard, is also your boss's, slash, best friend, slash, ex band member's, sister."

"Uh huh."

"This same Gepard, is your ex."

"That's pretty much it."

"Oh (Y/N), my dearest darling dear, this would've been great information to know, I don't know, maybe, let's see here, a couple months ago!" You lowered your head in shame.

"I know! I thought I told you and I guess a detailed conversation about it never came up."

"Oh you told me you had an ex. It just would've been great to know that the same guy has been hunting me down for crimes unknown for the past year." Oh you loved your drama king. "I just don't know what I did wrong." Sampo said the last bit, raising the back of his hand to his forehead and feigning dismay.

After finally giving the waiter your meal orders, you finally started to relax a bit, at least about how Sampo was taking the whole thing. He didn't seem upset, just out of the loop. Now that he was back into said loop, he just carried on as his usual, overdramatic, romantic self.

"Please don't use my info as intel for your mercenary business." You told him, seriously.

"Darling, you must realize, intel is my business. It's what I do! It's how I pay the bills." You glared at him.

"It's also MY personal business Sampo. It's your PARTNER'S personal business. That they don't feel comfortable having you share with the rest of the world right now." At you statement he seemed slightly disappointed and let out a sad sigh.

"Fine. If that's what you wish. I'll make an exception for you this once, alright sugarcube?"

"Thank you. It's a bit of a sore subject right now. I haven't seen him in years." Your eyes trailed down to your ring.

"Well enough about him right now. You've moved on now and life is good." Your expression turned solemn.

"Yea...moved on..."

"No worries, my dear. Your great Sampo Koski is here to protect you from the evil Silvermane guards!"

The waiter finally brought the food. Sampo spent the conversation telling you about his recent business success.

"That was good." You said, wiping your mouth and placing the napkin cloth on the table next to your freshly eaten dish.

"Indeed it was, my dear. You really do have the best taste in restaurants I must say." Your boyfriend complimented, grabbing the receipt after paying. It was late in the night now, dark. You were not going to be returning to your apartment in the Underworld tonight.

Sampo, as always, opened the front door for you. Once you exited, he began to walk beside you, arm around your waist, heading to his apartment.

Your mind began to wander back to the topic of Gepard. The whole interaction replayed in your mind over and over and over again. No matter how many times you tried to justify yourself, you still felt so embarrassed with how the whole interaction went. You wished you had said something...anything would've been better than staring at him as if you were a gaping fish.

Sampo noticed your face was starting to turn red. At this, he smirked. He presumed it was from you blushing, not even considering it would be embarrassment from the day's earlier events.

His mind was wandering to places elsewhere meanwhile yours was in turmoil.

You sat on the bed, scrolling through old photos from your childhood and your time before the shutdown between the Overworld and Underworld. So many pictures with you, Serval and Cocolia littered the screen alongside pictures you swear you deleted of you and Gepard.

One piqued your interest. After clicking, you found it was an image at Gepard's graduation from his training as a Silvermane Guard. You were proudly hugging him with a big smile on your face as he held up his certificate in his graduation gear.

You were so lost in thought you almost didn't hear the door to the bathroom open, much less see Sampo walking towards you, shirtless.

"Whatcha doin, darling?" He asked, catching you off guard as you just now realized he was lying on the bed next to where you sat, staring at you almost deviously.

In a panic, you immediately turned your phone off and put it at your side, the one furthest away from you.

"Nothing." His gaze worriedly followed the motion leading to where you put your phone, but he just simply shrugged. It's your business after all.

He sat up, beginning to lean towards you. Slowly and gently, his lips made contact with your neck. This also caught you by surprise as your mind was still scattered. Without thinking, you just pushed him away, much to HIS surprise. You've never shied away from affection with seemingly no reason before.

"Sampo, can we not do this tonight? I'm feeling tired." His facial expression was now one of concern.

"D-Did I do something?" You shook your head.

"No, just a lot on my mind lately. I'm still getting my affairs in order up here in the Overworld and I'm just feeling overwhelmed."

"I understand that feeling. Anything I can do to help?" His question was genuine.

"I just want to sleep." Although disappointed, he wasn't cruel. If you just wanted to rest tonight, that was fine. It's not like he couldn't give you other forms of affection.

"Are you going to bed right now?"

"Yea. I just don't have energy right now, sorry."

"That's fine. Uh, goodnight, I guess sugarcube." He kissed your forehead before raising the covers over the two of you. "Sweet dreams."

"Thanks." He continued to look at you, almost as if waiting for you to say something else. "What?"

"Nothing, just uh, sleep well." He awkwardly turned around onto his side to where his back was facing you. You sighed, flipping the light of the lamp next to you off before adjusting yourself under the covers, back towards him. You stared at your phone for a bit, before closing your eyes and trying to get swept away to dream land.

Sampo on the other hand, wasn't able to close his eyes so easily. Anxious thoughts filled his mind. He's not dumb, he saw your screen. He knows how to read people.

You weren't starting to revive your feelings for that Silvermane boy...were you?

Pela, Ice: I think it's just bc she's with the Silvermane Guards, nothing about her attacks scream "ice" to me

Blade, Wind: They had to make it clear he's connected to Dan Heng yk? Also his swords probably go woosh through the air

Kafka, Lightning: Her strings have a similar colour to the lightning icon and so does her general design, it would be weird for her to be anything else. Also there's lightning in her animations so something is producing it

Luka, Physical: Big metal fist hit body, ouch (this boy wants to be fire so bad)

Dan Heng IL, Imaginary: He's basically controlling that water with his mind, right?

Fu Xuan, Quantum: Idk how to word it but. Quantum just makes sense here like I have no questions about it but I can't explain it. Edit: The Matrix of Prescience is a supercomputer tysm for reminding me!!!

Lynx, Quantum: Literally nothing about Lynx feels quantum like her weapon is an ice pick and her healing stuff is physical objects...do you think Lynx and Pela are such good besties that they swapped types?

Jingliu, Ice: Look at that really cool ice sword

Topaz and Numby, Fire: Numby creates so much friction spinning like that it burns the enemy lmao (also the blaster Topaz uses might use lasers? It looks like a mix of money and some sort of beam)

Guinaifen, Fire: Girlie is literally throwing firecrackers at her enemies

Huohuo, Wind: If she waves that flag fast enough she creates a little gust of wind!

Argenti, Physical: Big spear hits multiple bodies, ouch (ignore the roses)

Hanya, Physical: This is the only physical character I can't explain like she's hitting her enemies with ink and chains that didn't exist two seconds ago...I think HYV just don't wanna give siblings the same type but she could've been imaginary

Ruan Mei, Ice: ...Maybe it matches her personality? Or it's a women of the Genius Society thing?

Dr. Ratio, Imaginary: Nobody actually believes the building he's dropping is real, right?

Xueyi, Quantum: This is another one that I can't put into words but just makes sense to me, something about the chains just materialising and the colours

TL;DR - If in doubt, look at their weapon and how they use it, except sometimes that doesn't explain anything either (if that's the case...look at their hair colour maybe...?)

As per request, I will assign the Redacted cast Honkai Star Rail mains (also because I have been all over this game since release and am therefore most certainly the most qualified person for this job):

Asher: Still waiting for Fu Hua to make an appearance, but he almost cried when he saw Himeko and did cry when he pulled her. The Honkai Impact 3rd vet is now a Himeko main.

Baabe: Herta main because they thought she was cute.

Milo: A Jing Yuan main whose main team is based on follow-up attacks.

Sweetheart: A Welt Yang main who almost threw their phone the first time they saw and recognized him (they, like Asher, are also a Honkai Impact 3rd player).

Angel: Hook main solely to cause chaos.

David: Refuses to play this game, but would likely be a Clara main if he were to play.

Darlin: So far all of their pulls on standard and all their lost 50/50s have resulted in an E3 Gepard, which they've taken as a sign from whatever higher power that they must turn this man into a dps.

Sam: (Actually good at this game btw) has a team full of supports only and mains Asta.

Lovely: Serval main "because she's hot" (Vincent 100% agrees).

Vincent: Has been saving for Kafka since day one, but then Blade came out, and now all his Stellar Jade is gone.

Gavin: Yukong main (I tell you this, as a Yukong main).

Freelancer: Silver Wolf because "Why do the enemies always have the toughness I can't break with my current team?!"

Lasko: Somehow turned March 7th into a possible dps by building her follow-up attacks (also plays the freeze team of Herta/Pela/March/Gepard).

Lasko's Co-worker: Best Bailu build in all of Dahlia because god knows the d.a.m.n. crew doesn't build their healers properly.

Huxley: Bronya, because he likes playing and building supports.

Damien: Seele, because he likes doing big damage.

Kody: A very edgy Dan Heng main.

Elliott: Sushang main because big c-

Sunshine: Yanqing main. Don't ask why. I just feel like it.
