Them two Champions knew exactly what was at stake and wasted no time asserting themselves right from the first bell.Heavy bombs were being dropped from both combatants standing toe to toe and tightly knit with neither opponent showing signs of backing off. However, Amanda was slicker with her movements – boxing and dodging avoiding the onslaught coming her way. With both combatants exchanging leather in the phone booth style a clash of heads occurred in the third round causing a deep cut on the forehead of Erika but still did not deter her from continuing to drop bombs at every opportunity Amanda looked good and strong as the rounds progressed. She boxed and moved beautifully while keeping busy with her hands and landing some serious leather. That said Erika’s own shots did get through and eventually cut Amanda on the forehead making the bout that more interesting. In the championship rounds Amanda showed her superiority and special skill set by out landing and outworking Erika to the punch. Erika showed crazy toughness, refusing to let the blood dripping in her eyes deter her from the task at hand. After 10 fully contested rounds of action, the Judges at hand scored it 98-92, 98-92 and 97-93 unanimously for Amanda Serrano. With this win Amanda collected the WBA Super Featherweight Belt from Erika and retained her IBF/IBO/WBC/WBO/Ring Magazine Featherweight Championship Titles to now being crowned the first man or woman from Puerto Rico to become Undisputed IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC/WBO/Ring Magazine Featherweight Champion of the World. SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - It was supposed to be a night to remember for Amanda Serrano. It was a night that was a coronation and victory lap for a Hall-of-Fame career that had her follow in the footsteps of some of the greatest fighters to come out of Puerto Rico.

Unfortunately for Serrano and the sold-out boisterous crowd in attendance, Serrano didn't step inside the squared circle on March 2. In a statement to the crowd where the seven-division and current unified featherweight champion broke down in tears, Serrano explained that she wouldn't be able to fight her opponent, Nina Meinke, on a night that, for all intents and purposes, was to celebrate her career. Serrano suffered an eye injury that forced the Puerto Rican Boxing Commission to prevent her from fighting.

The announcement came as a disappointment to all the fans in the arena. The fans were loud for most of the fights on the undercard, and one can only imagine the deafening sound of Serrano's entrance and introduction would have produced.

Serrano's title defense against Meinke featured Jake Paul, Jonathan Gonzalez, Christopher Diaz, and Javon Walton on the undercard. According to Serrano's promoter, Most Valuable Promotions, the event held at the Jose Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico, had the highest ticket sales for a boxing event on the island.

As of now, it's unclear as to the severity of Serrano's eye injury and when she'll be able to return to the ring. She has been one of the few elite fighters in the sport, male or female, to fight consistently more than once or twice a year.

A rescheduling of the fight with Meinke will likely be the direction Serrano goes to next. There haven't been many substantial boxing events in Puerto Rico, and Serrano is currently the island's biggest star. More than anyone else, she deserves to hear the adulation of the fans on the island as she has given her life to the sport and has only recently reaped any benefits.
