hiii, i have seen lot of ideas where the dance never happens like rhaenyra having a succesful reign, happy marriage life for jace-baela/ luke-rhaena. i think it would be funny if viserys run away to lys in a saera style for the drama, well my point is i like your au's so i wanted to know if you have headcanons for team black where the dance of the dragons never happened
There are many scenarios I could think of, actually...
And it depends how you want to see it because there are things that if erased creates more advantages and new situations, but could still stop the war.
1. Alicent accepts Rhaenyra's proposal of betrothing Jace and Helaena.
And Baela is betrothed to a Velaryon cousin (not a son of Vaemond due his infamy of wanting to take Driftmark from Corlys and his line), like a grandson of Malentine Velaryon (Maelor Velaryon; it's most likely Maelor is a Velaryon name; the son of Maerax Velaryon son of Malentine Velaryon) to support the claim of Lucerys and back him
<<Read more below>>
With Helaena becoming Queen consort she gives legitimacy to Jace's reign as well as Alicent getting her daughter as Queen consort, and with Baela being a backbone with the Velaryons then Luke will receive support as the Lord of Driftmark with Rhaena as Lucerys' wife as well; Jace's children could marry Baela's children and Joffrey as well marries one of the daughters of Baela to further legitimize his line.
Baela would be a lady-in-waiting for Helaena, and together they would arrange the betrothal of their children.
2. Jace marries Baela (now Daemon sees his daughter as Queen), Lucerys still marries Rhaena, and the children of Luke and Rhaena marry the children of Joff.
Now, in all of the scenarios present Aegon III would marry Daenaera as an alliance (they would always marry each other), and Viserys II would marry his niece Daena <<Daena deserved to become The Queen and be the mother of Daeron II and Daenerys, and of the whole dynasty>> to unite their bloodlines; and if baby Visenya survives, then Viserys would marry her (the original plan of Martin), and their son would marry their niece Daena to once again unite the bloodline with Daena being Queen and having her uncle and aunt as Hand and counselors.
3. Other possible scenario but this time after Rhaenyra: Aegon the Younger calls for a High Council once Rhaenyra dies peacefully, and he is chosen as king as the oldest legitimate son of Rhaenyra (Jace would no longer have the protection of Rhaenyra), Baela gets to Maelor Velaryon, and she becomes the Lady of Driftmark as a consort (we know Corlys would never choose her, but he could choose a great-great-nephew he liked), while Rhaena marries Corwyn Corbray, and Viserys would still marry either Visenya or Daena; but even then Aegon III would have mercy and spare the lives of Jace, Luke and Joffrey, and they would be married off to minor ladies.
Honestly, in the second and third scenarios I have to admit I think Aegon would eventually reach for the Throne because legitimately it is his.
...
Anyways, Rhaena's children would marry Baela's children, and Rhaena and Baela would be councilors to both Aegon III and Viserys II Targaryen.
I think it would be nice to see Daena or Visenya matching Viserys' fire and having a partner who is an equal and loves and supports him since he would be spared being a hostage of three different Lyseni families that threatened him and also would spare Westeros of the Rogare family, Aegon the Unworthy and the Blackfyre Rebellions.
Either way any of these relationships would mirror that of Baelon and Alyssa or Daemon and Rhaenyra.
But beyond that, Baela would be happy to become Lady of Driftmark, this time in a happy marriage, and would have a husband devoted to her; she would name her first daughter in honor of her mother and first son in honor of her grandfather Corlys; and Laena would be the grandmother of Aelinor Penrose through a daughter of hers (HC: Coryssa Velaryon) who married into House Penrose.
Rhaena would be free of the pressure of providing an heir quickly and therefore her first baby would be born, and would be able to use her dragon to quell the protestors against Joffrey Arryn (the heir of Jeyne Arryn) and Corwyn would live.
Baela would always introduce Daenaera to Aegon III, and Rhaena would take Viserys II on travels to Dragonstone and the whole realm.
Once Viserys II comes back, (if Visenya is not alive) Daena would meet him and they would fall in love and marry.
Baela's favorite niece would be Daena, followed by the daughters of her sister Rhaena, whereas Rhaena's favorite niece would be her little namesake.
Without the trauma of Larra Rogare and the need to overcompensate due to their involvement, Viserys II would see the practicality in sending Baelor to a Sept and therefore there would be no Maidenvault, and no threat of a religious war with the Stepstones, the Iron Isles and the North, as well as no disbalance of taxes going to the High Septons.
Rhaenyra and Daemon would be able to meet their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and if Rhaenyra's daughter survives, Rhaenyra would have loved spoiling her little princess.
If Baela and Rhaena's full younger brother survives as well, this little boy called Aemon in honor of his great-grandfather, would be completely loyal to his half-brothers Aegon the Younger and Viserys, he would have a keep of his own in the Crownlands given by Rhaenyra so he doesn't compete against the Strong boys
But even then, Aemon would support his legitimate younger brother's birthright.
If Aemon lives, he would marry Maris Baratheon and that's one more ally for the Blacks.
Aemon would claim Grey Ghost itself or steal one of its eggs, he's the son of Daemon and Laena after all, and want to fight but he would be beat to it by Baela.
Aemon would be a male mini-Laena being as adventurous, smooth and demure as his mother, and his sisters would tell him stories about their mother.
Viserys would claim Vermithor and if Visenya lives, then she can claim Silverwing, and Daena and Rhaena could get one of the other dragon eggs of their aunt Rhaena, Elaena's egg could also hatch as well.
Baela would get a new dragon from one of the eggs of Morning as well.
Daemon would teach all of his sons how to fight and encourage them to embrace chaos.
Baela and Rhaena would spoil their little sister Visenya, and as Baela is a tomboy and Rhaena a girl's girl, I like to think Visenya would be kind of an introvert with a stylish witch vibe.
Viserys II would bring his mother many treasures he found on his travels.
And without the trauma of seeing Rhaenyra die, Aegon would proudly wear the crown of Rhaenyra and Daena would wear it as well.
And Visenya would get special tiaras for herself and Viserys as the second and third in command of Aegon III and later Daena.
And I guess these are my headcanons.

In another life Laena's son (Aemon) survived and after Rhaenyra marries Daemon, Rhaenyra could teach Aemon about his mother and this little boy would have protected his stepmother
Aemon would have loved his little brothers Aegon the Younger and baby Viserys and his little sister Visenya.
When Laena found she was with child again, Rhaenyra flew to Driftmark to attend her during the birth. And so it was that the princess was at her good-sister’s side. - Fire & Blood

Aemma: Mis condolencias Lord Corlys.
Aemon ll: Nosotros no somos salvajes.
Jocelyn ll: Ni tampoco somos bastardos.

Other than Daemon, the Sealord & Laenor, who would have been appropriate husbands for Laena & Rhaenyra?
For Rhaenyra, I think the Tyrells and the Tullys are too unstable to be granted the hand of the heir, so maybe Borros Baratheon or Jason Lannister? Or should the Manderlys receive the royal bride they lost when Viserra died?
And for Laena, I honestly have no idea who is an appropriate match for her. The Hightowers & the Lannisters are probably the only ones who can match the Velaryon wealth, but no way is she marrying a relative of Alicent's and I think the Lannisters were already Greens by the time she married OTL. I guess Borrros could be an option to strengthen the Baratheon connection?
What do you think? Who would you have paired them with?
Appropriate by what standard?
After all, it's not like Viserys I and his advisors had not considered anyone else besides Laenor as a husband for Rhaenyra. Gyldayn details the various candidates proposed, from the aristocrats courting her across the kingdom (like the sons of Lord Bracken and Lord Blackwood, the young "Fool" Frey, Ser Jason Lannister and his twin, Ser Tyland, the sons of Lords Tully, Tyrell, Oakheart, and Tarly, and Harwin Strong) to the diplomatic matches considered by the king (hence Viserys' talk "of wedding Rhaenyra to the Prince of Dorne, as a way of bringing the Dornish into the realm) and the green faction at court (hence Alicent's push for her son Aegon). Laenor Velaryon triumphed in the end because he was, in king and council's opinion, the best choice: as Gyldayn notes, "[t]hough the Great Council of 101 had ruled against his claim, the Velaryon boy remained a grandson of Prince Aemon Targaryen of hallowed memory, a great-grandson of the Old King himself", and marriage between him and Rhaenyra "would unite and strengthen the royal bloodline, and regain the Iron Throne the friendship of the Sea Snake with his powerful fleet".
So it's really impossible for me to perform some sort of alternative speculation when the story itself reached its conclusion after a similar analysis. Given all of the information available, Viserys I decided that the most appropriate choice for Rhaenyra was Laenor. To decide otherwise, there needs to be some reason why the story could not have made that choice.
It's a similar story for Laena. I tend to think that the reason Corlys betrothed Laena at 12 to the Braavosi Sealord's son was to assist in his war in the Stepstones alongside Daemon Targaryen, but whatever the specific reason, Corlys had certainly decided that such a betrothal was most beneficial for his ambitions. In turn, while Gyldayn does not specifically note why Corlys agreed to the marriage between Laena and Daemon, he notes that Daemon found Laena politically attractive because Daemon "had fallen far down in the line of succession, and neither the greens nor the blacks had a place for him … [sic] but House Velaryon was powerful enough to defy both parties with impunity". Consequently, it is again impossible for me to speculate on a different choice for Laena given the same factors present in the story.
(Continual reminder that I don't talk about That Other Show and will block anyone who asks about or reblogs this to talk about That Other Show.)

Laena would always get Dark Sister as the widow of his wielder and as the sword was originally meant for a woman's hand.
And of course Laena would make sure that Baela, Jace, Luke and Joffrey are trained alongside her cousin Daeron Velaryon, convincing Vaemond to fight for Rhaenyra with the promise Laena would give Vaemond and his firstborn Daemion a fortress in The Crownlands with a fleet of ships, and she would take Daeron with her to fight in the Stepstones and with Vhagar and Laena's wit aiding the strategies of Corlys they would win the war in the Stepstones.
And I know Laena would ask Viserys to give a fortress to Aemon Targaryen (her son who was named in honor of Laena's grandfather) as a homage to the son of the Rogue Prince, and send him as a ward to other branches of House Velaryon (the branches of Jorgen and Victor Velaryon, Corlys' uncles) so they can win them over, and later betroth him to the cleverest one of the Four Storms - Maris Baratheon.
Once the Stepstones are completely apart of the Seven Kingdoms, many fortresses would begin to be built by Corlys and Laena to protect it (and later used for the Dance), as well as reach out to Laena and Rhaenyra's great-aunt Saera Targaryen and her children and struck an alliance by giving them fortresses of their own.
Laena would also travel to the Vale to improve the relationship between House Targaryen and the Vale, and would streak a deal of betrothing one of her Velaryon cousins (a son of Malentine Velaryon) to one of Jeyne Arryn's female cousins, and she herself would arrange the betrothal of Joffrey with Daeron Velaryon's daughter: Daenaera Velaryon, and eventually arrange betrothals between her other Baratheon cousins Cassandra, Ellyn and Floris to grandsons of her cousins Malentine, Rhogar, and Daemion, while also building fortress personalized for every single one of them in the Stepstones, all under the agreement they will fight for Rhaenyra.
And Laena would eventually make a Valyrian Longsword for her son Aemon: 'Lealty'.
And then as queen, Rhaenyra would announce Laena as her Mistress of Coin, Mistress of Ships and Commander of the Narrow Sea; and announce her as the Duchess of the Crownlands
And I'm sure Laena would gain over the Reach with her persuasion *cough, Vhagar, cough* and the betrothal of one of her Velaryon female cousins to the Lord of House Redwyne.
Rhaenyra and Laena would eventually meet and make a deal with the Rogare family, in the exchange of betrothing another of Laena's Velaryon female cousins to one of the Rogares.
Ser (and eventually Lord) Aemon Targaryen would soon claim Seasmoke, while Morning would hatch and be claimed by a grandson of Saera: Saegon Targaryen - we know Saera would give her surname to her children just to spite her parents - and other grandchildren of Saera would claim Vermithor and Silverwing.
Laena would be Rhaenyra's major asset.
A HOTD au where instead of Laena dying by dragon fire/childbirth, she lives on to give birth to a son, Daemion Targaryen, and her husband mysteriously dies of a burst belly. With her newborn son in her arms, Dark Sister at her hip, her two grieving daughters, and an equally grieving Caraxes claimed by Rhaena, Laena returns to Dragonstone for the funeral of her husband. Queen Alicent and her father, once again appointed Hand, secretly rejoice in the death of their despised foe and brazenly make moves to put Aegon II on the throne. The death of Daemon Targaryen has left Viserys a shell of the man he used to be and Rhaenyra struggles to accept the death of her beloved Uncle and the pressure of her inheritance.
But Laena refuses to cave under grief and uses it to drive her to ensure that her children are well cared for and that Rhaenyra's inheritance remains intact and away from the Greens. But envy and restless hearts threaten her plans and Laena finds herself romantically entangled with yet another dragon of fire.
Outside the towering walls of Dragonstone, the wind raged as if joining Laena in her fury. The sea was foaming under the gleaming moon like a cold caress, the sound a small comfort for Rhaenyra as she wrapped her black cloak tighter around herself. She searched one end of the beach to the other before glimpsing Laena standing with water up to her knees, fingers playing with the Dark Sister's hilt.
Rhaenyra didn’t need to see her expression to know she was furious.
Poor, sweet Rhaena with tears on her cheeks and trembling hands had given Caraxes the command to burn Daemon's body, her family standing in support behind her as Queen Alicent along with her father and brood stood a little ways from the flames, but no one had missed the small smile of triumph in the Queen's eyes or the grim look of satisfaction on Otto's face.
Their happiness and Alicent's constant need to force Rhaenyra into a conversation to offer her false condolences had nauseated her to the point where she practically had fled to the beaches to gather herself and speak to Laena...alone.
Heart in her mouth, Rhaenyra strode over towards her, each step shrinking the vastness that had come in between them. Laena did not turn, watching the waves sweep up on the sand before her, her body tensing with each step Rhaenyra took.
“Laena, I'm sorry,” she blurted. “Please, Laena, you mustn't be alone--”
Laena's shoulders moved convulsively, halting her words. “Let us speak plainly, cousin. My husband, your Uncle, is dead and now the vultures show their brazenness without shame and have even expressed an interest in having Dark Sister given to Aemond who displays nothing but Daemon's worst traits. Surely his mother isn’t blind to his viciousness….” Laena's voice trailed away.
“Laena, I know..,” she murmured. When Laena did not reply, Rhaenyra breathed in the salt wind through her nose to clear her mind. She knew. Everyone knew. She was trying so hard and now Daemon-- “I don't think you do know, cousin.” Laena's silver head whipped around, presenting her with the full extent of her grief and Rhaenyra crumbled at the look of agony on her beautiful face. "I don't think you understand just how far your beloved Hightower will go to make a mockery of your grief and twist it to her advantage. You don't...you don't..." Laena's voice trailed off and her expression twisted in a look of despair as she fell to her knees and sobbed. Rhaenyra dashed forward into the water with her and held the sobbing woman in her arms, two dragons of sea and fire lost in their grief as the waves crashed.
"What is to happen to us now?"
"We protect your crown and our children's rights with Fire and Blood. Daemon is gone, but his progeny lives and I swear by the sea, House Hightower will never be free of his shadow." Rhaenyra barely heard Laena's oath, the wind pushing her curly hair into her mouth. She was dragging it free when Laena crushed her palms to her temples and, looming in, crashed her lips to Rhaenyra's with bruising force, a kiss that Rhaenyra immediately returned. The force of their passion consumed them as the two women embraced under the cold moonlight, a promise on their lips.
By fire and sea.

“When Baelon heard of his daughter’s death. He was filled with nothing but grief that was soon replaced with rage that a loving father can only feel the loss of a child. The Greens were this close on ending the war right then— until soon a raven arrived from Prince Aemons: He vowed to The Bronze Prince that his daughter would be 𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐃.”
“A ᴅᴀᴜɢʜᴛᴇʀ ғᴏʀ ᴀ ᴅᴀᴜɢʜᴛᴇʀ.”
The One-Eyed Prince had managed taken take Baela and Rhaena Targaryen hostage after using the assistance of Ser Criston Cole, who helped him take the former captive, and Larys Strong, who instructed his tongueless goons to abduct the latter from The Vale.
Daemon had arrived on his own to save his daughters from The Greens wrath just to see both in front of Vhagar and Aemond awaiting for the intended target him. For him to feel what his son had felt when he lost his own daughter.
Aemond forced his uncle to choose one daughter to live and the other to die the same way Argella did. Torn apart alive by a dragon. Daemon didn’t want to choose, but knew he had to name a choice. A choice he’d soon to make.
He shut his eyes and gritted out the name. His heart spiralling with shame and grief, but didn’t the rogue prince didn’t show it on his blank face. Only a tear slipped from his eyes.
Rhaena. A spitting image of his late wife Laena Velaryon. The calming waters that soothingly tamed his inner fire. He’d regrettably chosen her to die and Baela to live. He would so learn to live with the eternal pain he was about to experience.
But then Aemond commanded Vhagar to feast upon her selected prey: the she-dragon had horrifically stunned his uncle and cousin by eating Baela alive.
Ser Criston kept his gaze low and lips tight. He barely approved of his plan at first. It was hypocritical of them to do and Aemond’s had many choices of avenging Baelon’s young daughter, yet he chosen this idea and the actions were too late to reconsider now.
Oh gods, Baelon isn’t gonna appreciate this once they go back to King’s Landing. The Commander knew he loved his sisters, but he was too busy grieving with his wife to bother keeping track of his lovers. Too late to stop Aemond’s acts of impulsiveness.
His now remaining daughter shrieked with utter despair and she began to uncontrollable sob from the traumatic sight as the rogue prince stares in shock. Now he knew what Helaena felt when she lost Jaehaerys and his son after losing Argella at their hands.
Aemond kept his head high and a victorious smile as he calmly watched Baela’s demise. It was beautifully karmic. He didn’t think what he was about to face after he goes back to King’s Landing. To his beloved Baelon.
[ Hey babes! I missed you! So happy that the shadowban is off now. And I just think aemond would be this impulsive enough to do this in the name of Baelon. ]
WHY WOULD YOU MAKE ME FEEL THIS MUCH PAIN BECAUSE FUN FACT: BAELA IS THE SISTER THAT BAELON WAS CLOSEST TOO. (OF COURSE HE WAS CLOSE TO BOTH OF HIS SISTER'S)
BAELON WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIED AND BEYOND HIMSELF WHEN HE HEARS THE NEWS, IN ALL HONESTY, HE'D COLLAPSE FROM GRIEF. HIS BELOVED DAUGHTER AND NOW HIS PRECIOUS SISTER.
I WHOLEHEARTEDLY BELIEVE HE'D GO TO RHAENA AND SOB HIS HEART OUT TO HER. HE DIDN'T WANT THIS, HE DIDN'T MEAN FOR THIS TO HAPPEN, PLEASE RHAENA, HE'D SOB OUT, CLUTCHING ONTO HER AS SHE CLUTCHED ONTO HIM IN RETURN, PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS SOME SICK JOKE, NOT BAELA, NOT HER.
BAELON LOVED BAELA. JUST AS HE LOVES RHAENA AND LOVED LAENA, HER DEATH WOULD PARALYZE HIM AND HE'D REFUSE TO SEE ANYONE.
#he'd react pretty badly#baelon ii targaryen#does baelon hate daemon? yes. does he absolutely love his halfsisters and late stepmother? absolutely. they're everything to him.#that just makes it so much worse because aemond thinks he's getting revenge but he's just hurting his beloved even more

When Lucerys Velaryon was born, they feared that she would die, since the princess was weak and small, Rhaenyra Targaryen suspected that her daughter's fate was death, therefore he decided to leave her to her own devices to save herself the pain.
But she, Lucerys Velaryon, was a dragon, and she proved herself worthy.
In the midst of her struggle to hold on to her little life, Lucerys wasn't alone, there were her grandparents Corlys, Rhaenys, her father and surprise Queen Hightower.
When Queen Hightower heard of the heiress abandoning her daughter, she was horrified by her actions, especially when she discovered that said baby was a true Velaryon.
Alicent Hightower never thought she could hate her old friend even more .
And then with the permission of the king and father of the creature, he decided to take the little princess Velaryon under his wing.

Although Lucerys heard rumors, she loved her mother like this until that fateful day.
That same night, Lucerys would accompany her beloved uncle-fiancé Aemond to claim the dragon Vhagar. Where both would be attacked by Jacaerys and his cousins Baela and Rhaena Targaryen, where Aemond would lose his eyes because of Jacaerys.

House of the Dragon: Game of Thrones Prequel Trailer Breakdown
https://ift.tt/3BiDiJV
It’s been far too long since TV viewers got to spend time in Westeros. Thankfully, we will all be returning soon. Today HBO Max revealed an official teaser for House of the Dragon, the first of many planned Game of Thrones spinoffs. Check it out below.
This story is a prequel that picks up roughly 200 years before the events of the epic HBO series. The Targaryen dynasty is on its fifth king of the Seven Kingdoms. They’ve got all the dragons they could want and things are going great in Westeros. Surely, no petty family squabble over succession could possibly ruin such a great thing! Unfortunately for the Targaryen family, George R.R. Martin kind of lives for this shit.
House of the Dragon is set to cover a major event in Westerosi history known as the Dance of the Dragons. This is when a crisis of succession leads to an enormous civil war that devastates the continent and kills off a large percentage of House Targaryen’s dragons. And those dragons are pretty important, you see. As the voiceover in the teaser indicates “Gods, kings, fire, and blood. Dreams didn’t make us kings. Dragons did.”
Though this teaser is only just over a minute long, it packs quite a bit of exciting imagery within it. Let’s break down exactly what it is we’re seeing here, using Martin’s prequel text Fire & Blood as a guide.
Ser Otto Hightower

House of the Dragon Photos Offer First Look at Thrones Prequel Characters
By Alec Bojalad
Fans of Game of Thrones should immediately recognize the pendant on the chest of this unseen character. That is worn by the “Hand of the King” who is essentially the King of the Seven Kingdoms’ chief of staff. Some Hands of the King are more historically significant than others and the House of the Dragon will depict a particularly important one. Though we don’t see his face, this character is certainly Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans).
The Hightowers hail from Oldtown in The Reach, one of the biggest and most powerful cities in the Seven Kingdoms. In fact, before Aegon I’s arrival on the continent and the creation of King’s Landing, Oldtown was THE city in Westeros. As such, the Hightower family that rules Oldtown is extremely powerful. Though Otto’s brother is the Lord of Oldtown, Otto has been a mainstay of King’s Landing for years. He is a deeply political man who counts the king’s brother Daemon as his biggest rival. His daughter is also quite attractive and may or may not catch the eye of King Viserys I.
King Viserys I
Ah yes, King Viserys I: the head honcho. Viserys I (Paddy Considine) is the fifth king of the Targaryen dynasty. He seems to be doing a decent job but that might just be because his reign followed that of his grandfather Jaehaerys I – perhaps the greatest king Westeros ever had. Viserys’s biggest “sin” is his love of his daughter Rhaenyra. Viserys is grooming her to be Westeros’s ruling monarch despite the precdent of patrilineal succession being set under Jaehaerys’s reign.
The prominent inclusion of Viserys’ sword in this shot might not be a coincidence. All Targaryen kings through Aegon IV wielded Aegon I’s Valyrian steel sword Blackfyre. Should someone hypothetically nab that sword in a civil war it would lend an air of legitimacy to their claim.
Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen
Ladies and gentlemen, meet Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy). This may be the closest this story has to a “main character.” Rhaenyra is the apple of her father King Viserys’s eye. In fact, for much of her youth she was pretty much the apple of everyone’s eye. Known as the “Realm’s Delight”, Rhaenyra has a very positive approval rating in the Seven Kingdoms. She is Viserys’s only child from his marriage to Queen Aemma of House Arryn. She appears to have a clear path to the Iron Throne … unless her father does something crazy like say, get remarried.
Daemon Targaryen
Here we have Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen. Daemon (Matt Smith) is the king’s younger brother and therefore Rhaenyra’s uncle. In the war to come, Daemon will be one of the most important players. He is an excellent warrior but also a bit unbearable. Otto Hightower hates him and Viserys himself isn’t too taken by him. His niece certainly loves him though. Perhaps a bit too much.
This may not be a particularly important moment but it does serve as a reminder that the Targaryen fashion sense is so rad. This also, however, could be a fateful duel between Daemon Targaryen and Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel), the latter of which loves a morningstar and who will play an important role in the palace intrigue to come.
Corlys Velaryon a.k.a. The Sea Snake
Now THIS guy is very important. This is Corlys Velaryon a.k.a. The Sea Snake (Steve Toussaint). Think of him as House of the Dragon’s Tywin Lannister, that is to say: the most powerful man in the Seven Kingdoms who does not sit on the Iron Throne. House Velaryon dates its lineage back to Old Valyria just like the Targaryens. As such the two families are quite close, with Corlys even marrying Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best).
Even beyond his family’s power, however, Corlys is a particularly impressive man. He is a prolific sailor and adventurer who has traveled all over the world, bringing many riches back home with him. Should a civil war break out, he would be a very important ally to win.
Speaking of Velaryons, here is the whole crew. It’s unknown who is who here but the following actors have been confirmed to be a part of the Velaryon family:
– Wil Johnson as Ser Vaemond Velaryon – Younger brother to Coryls Velaryon and commander in the Velaryon navy – John Macmillan as Ser Laenor Velaryon – Son of Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen – Savannah Steyn as Lady Laena Velayron – Daughter of Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen – Theo Nate as Ser Laenor Velaryon – Son of Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen
I believe we’re seeing the adolescent Ser Laenor to Corlys’s left. His wife Rhaenys is also accompanying him.
This is a conspicuous shot of the Iron Throne – the thing that each character is striving for and the thing that also no longer exists, thanks to Drogon.
Mysaria
Here we see Sonoya Mizuno (Devs, Ex Machina) as Mysaria, Daemon’s Mistress of Whisperers and also just his mistress. Mysaria is pretty rad. She’s a dancer from the Free City of Lys in Essos who caught Daemon’s eye. She comes to serve a pretty important role in the Dance of the Dragons and is involved with at least one unbearably cruel act. Much of Westeros comes to know her as “Lady Misery.”
Lady Alicent Hightower
Told you Ser Otto Hightower’s daughter was attractive! This is Lady Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooker), who will soon catch the king’s eye. Here, however, she appears to be in distress. She’s running through the court in Maegor’s Holdfast and holding what could be the same Valyrian dagger that caused so much strife in Game of Thrones. What events could this cursed thing have set in motion here? It’s hard to say but it may involve her son Aemon losing an eye.
Remember how much fun the jousting episodes were in Game of Thrones season 1? So much can happen at a tourney. It’s a fun place for highborn and commoners alike to take in some sweet violence. It’s also dramatically fertile ground for many schemes to take shape. Based on the heraldry of a red archer on a green field, this tournament is being held in Horn Hill, home of House Tarly (yes, as in Samwell Tarly). The two participants in this particular joust appear to be Ser Criston Cole again and a House Tarly knight.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
In Fire & Blood, the events that set the Dance of the Dragons in motion begin at a tourney in King’s Landing. Alicent Hightower is adorned in green and Rhaenyra Targaryen in black, so when the factions eventually divide they are known as the “greens” and the “blacks.”
At first glance this appears to be a simple training session. But then it becomes clear that these two combatants really hate each other. We are likely seeing here a skirmish between one of Lady Alicent’s sons and one of Lady Rhaenyra’s. You might think that the blond-haired boy is Rhaenyra’s son but curiously all of her and her blond husband Laenor’s kids come out with jet black hair. He almost looks a little bit more like Ser Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr). Interesting.
House of the Dragon will premiere in 2022 on HBO and HBO Max.

Daemon and Laena's son: Aemon Targaryen - Headcanons
I chose to pick a faceclaim and an AI drawing for this beautiful boy had he survived and grown to be his father's heir.
PD: I've given him the name Aemon in honor of his great-grandfather Aemon.
I think it's important to note how things would have happened had he survived:
1. Even if Aemon is Daemon and Laena's firstborn son, he could not inherit Driftmark (at first at least).
After debating with many others, I've come to the conclusion that even if Aemon survives, he could not inherit it because Luke is older and he carries the last name Velaryon, though obviously he's a Strong and everyone with eyes knows it, Corlys would be ecstatic about the birth of his first and only grandson, but he can not give him Driftmark because of his agreement with Rhaenyra in which he wanted Laenor's line to inherit it, because that way his last name would keep going. Of course, Corlys wants both his name and blood in the Iron Throne and Driftmark so that is why he supported the marriage agreements Rhaenyra and Laena had arranged of Jace/Baela and Lucerys/Rhaena.
I think the reason why Corlys insisted in the inheritance going this way was to protect Laenor, granted everyone knew the Strong boys were not the sons of Laenor and mocked him behind his back, but Corlys wanted at least the register that Laenor could fulfill his duty and with Adam and Alyn, Corlys wanted to make it seem that Laenor was capable of having enough physical attraction to women, and because he still didn't want to admit he cheated on Rhaenys and that it was him who risked the succession line of Driftmark .
2. As a result of Aemon not being able to be Lord of Driftmark but still being Daemon and Laena's only son who nonetheless is Daemon's firstborn, he would have to be given a castle and inheritance by Rhaenyra; also this would be a key factor in keeping him from wanting to take Driftmark as he would have a household of his own Aemon would be able to expand that will keep him occupied and satisfied enough that he will have no need of Driftmark.
Also ...
3. Aemon would need a strategic betrothal, Daemon would want to give Aemon a suitable match, an heiress, like a Baratheon maid.
Or for the sake of keeping his son's bloodline pure Daemon would betroth Aemon to a Velaryon from a minor branch in order to appease the Velaryons even more; Book! Daemon is actually pretty clever when it comes to politics.
Of course, in order to soothe the nerves of Corlys and Rhaenys over their bloodline, Baellian's firstborn son would be wed to Joffrey's firstborn daughter and viceversa.
4. Aemon would want to fight during the Dance, however as he would still be a boy, since Aemon would be like one year older than Aegon the Younger - around 11 months- he would be only nine when the war started which means Aemon's too young to fight.
5. If Aemon survived the dance, he would probably be Lord of Driftmark. As Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey would be dead, Corlys would ask Rhaenyra to change Aemon's name from Targaryen to Velaryon when he ascended. Of course, he would still ask for the legitimization of Addam and Alyn, but since he had already had problems with Rhaenyra and Daemon at this point, Corlys would give them "this boon" in order to reconcile.
6. Aemon would not rule as king, yes he's the firstborn son of the Rogue Prince, the younger brother of King Viserys, but since he already is heir to Driftmark and has his own keep - that would be built since the beginning because obviously Daemon would want his firstborn son's inheritance secure- away from the Red Keep, and as Aemon would emphasize Aegon's claim was stronger as he had the support of the Blacks as the only living son of Rhaenyra The Black Queen (as it was thought back then before Viserys II returned) he can not rule, Aegon would still have a better claim since he's King Viserys' grandson/nephew, while Aemon is Viserys' nephew/first cousin-twice-removed/second cousin-once-removed, Aegon would win by proximity - something their great-great-grandfather Jaehaerys had done with Viserys to have him as heir. Also, it would be a homage to the fact Viserys never changed his heir: Rhaenyra, as The Blacks were still fighting after Rhaenyra's death while the Greens killed Aegon The Elder.
7. In the case Aemon has not married his betrothed and Baela is also single Aemon would marry Baela. The regents would want him isolated from his younger brother Aegon The Younger in order to manipulate the boy, and would still want to wed off Baela. Baela would go to her brother and ask him to wed each other. Just like their great-great-grandparents did. They would have so much potential together, the first daughter and son of Daemon and Laena, who both were dragonriders - as obviously Aemon would be given a dragon egg - and who grew up loving and respecting each other.
However, that would be if as I said, Aemon has not married his betrothed who will be the Lady of Driftmark. If he is already married, his wife's family would not want him to remarry as part of the agreement they had made with Aemon's father, so what Aemon could do is have Baela wed to Alyn (knowing Corlys, he would have legitimized them but not make them heirs since Corlys has his grandson).

Arianne Martell & Quentyn Martell, happier moments.
A Great Unrest
His death was a mishap, almost certainly, and it is written that Prince Maekar always bitterly regretted Baelor’s passing and marked its anniversary every year. (The World of Ice and Fire)
Maekar Targaryen marking the twelfth anniversary of his brother’s death, during the first year of his reign.
The Picture
Laena Velaryon, Laenor Velaryon, and a gift for their parents’ tenth wedding anniversary.
Remember Me (Chapter 3)
Mothers, daughters, and the words said and unsaid.
Chapter 3: Mellario of Norvos & Arianne Martell
Loren of the Rock
He was Loren the First and then Loren the Last, and in between, he fought the Targaryens and lived to tell the tale, a fate he sometimes considered to be worse than death.
The Son
And Addam Velaryon, lately Addam of Hull, sought out the Sea Snake after the battle; what they spoke to each other even Mushroom does not say. (Fire & Blood)
What was said and not said between Addam Velaryon and Corlys Velaryon after the Battle in the Gullet.
Unbetrothed
Lady Elissa had been twice betrothed, once at twelve and once at sixteen, but she had frightened off both boys, as her own father admitted ruefully. (Fire & Blood)
The two broken betrothals of Lady Elissa.
Or, how Elissa Farman frightened off her betrothed, not once but twice.
The Knighting
“Aegon is to return to my castle at Summerhall. There is a place there for you, if you wish. A knight of my household. You’ll swear your sword to me, and Aegon can squire for you.” […] “I will take your son as squire, Your Grace, but not at Summerhall. Not for a year or two.” (The Hedge Knight)
Duncan the Tall requesting a boon from Maekar Targaryen before swearing his sword as a knight of the prince’s household.
Onion Soup
[Stannis] sat at the high table as a dish of onion soup cooled before him, hardly tasted, staring at the flame of the nearest candle with those hooded eyes, ignoring the talk around him. (A Dance with Dragons)
Stannis, Davos and onion soup.
Nameday Wish
She remembered Ser Willem dimly, a great grey bear of a man, half-blind, roaring and bellowing orders from his sickbed. The servants had lived in terror of him, but he had always been kind to Dany. He called her “Little Princess” and sometimes “My Lady,” and his hands were soft as old leather. (A Game of Thrones)
Daenerys Targaryen, Willem Darry and a nameday wish.
Riverlings
Nonetheless, during all those years of Catelyn’s girlhood, it had been Brynden the Blackfish to whom Lord Hoster’s children had run with their tears and their tales, when Father was too busy and Mother too ill. Catelyn, Lysa, Edmure … and yes, even Petyr Baelish, their father’s ward … he had listened to them all patiently, as he listened now, laughing at their triumphs and sympathizing with their childish misfortunes. (A Game of Thrones)
The first time Catelyn ran to her uncle with her tears and her tales.
and they shall know you by your ghosts
When Alysanne asked if she would return to Greenstone, Rhaena shook her head. “There’s a ghost there as well. A kinder ghost, but no less sad.” (Fire & Blood)
It wasn’t so much that love ended. It was more the fact that it remained mired in the past. The ghost of how easy they used to be with another stalked them every step of the way, on this small island Larissa had made her new home.
The Banker
The Hightowers had not entrusted so much as a groat of their gold to the Lyseni, and thus remained one of the wealthiest houses in all Westeros, second mayhaps only to the Lannisters of Casterly Rock, and Lady Sam wished to learn how to put that gold to better use. Thus was born the Bank of Oldtown, which has made House Hightower richer still. (Fire & Blood)
Samantha Tarly and the founding of the Bank of Oldtown.
The Cold Light of Day
And yet it was to Archmaester Vaegon that the Old King turned now, summoning his last son to King’s Landing. What passed between them remains a matter of dispute. Some say the king offered Vaegon the throne and was refused. Others assert that he only sought his counsel. (Fire & Blood)
What transpired between Archmaester Vaegon and Jaehaerys Targaryen.
Clever Wives
Lord Redwyne was incredulous. “The Tyrells are dolts,” he said. “I am sorry, Your Grace, they are my liege lords, but … the Tyrells are dolts, and Lord Bertrand was a sot as well.” (Fire & Blood)
The Tyrells were dolts, it was sometimes alleged, but they had a knack for marrying clever wives.
Growing
“Egg wanted me to help him rule, but I knew my place was here. He sent me north aboard the Golden Dragon, and insisted that his friend Ser Duncan see me safe to Eastwatch.” (A Feast for Crows)
Maester Aemon and Ser Duncan saying goodbye at Eastwatch (and reminiscing about the first time they met).
The Sun and the Moon
Baela Targaryen, Rhaena Targaryen, Moondancer, Sundancer and Morning.
The Man Who Was Not There (Chapter 2)
Stannis Baratheon, Tywin Lannister, and a tense exchange during the wedding of Robert Baratheon and Cersei Lannister.

If Naerys targaryen had died from childbirth? do you think Aegon Iv would have married Barba Bracken? How do you think it would affected Aegor?
Thank you for your very interesting questions, friend anon! The first thing I’d like to do is apologize for not getting to answer your ask sooner, but I was (rather unsuccessfully) settling into a new university semester and I felt like I didn’t have enough time to do it justice. These are two questions that I’ve thought about for awhile.
Question 1: If Queen Naerys had died in childbirth, would Aegon IV have married Barba Bracken?
Aegon IV had only just been crowned king when Naerys and Barba gave birth in 172AC. If one lends credence to the theory that he did in fact poison his father Viserys II to get the throne faster, then he was willing to do anything to gain and keep his kingship. Whether you agree with this speculation or not (I’m half/half myself), Aegon IV’s later behavior indicates he loved being king because he felt it gained him access to pretty much whatever (or whoever) he wanted. However, even he understood there were a few lines he could not cross; he did not, for instance, ever openly take a woman of a Great House to be his mistress even when he was king. His relationship with Daena and possibly with Elaena were mere rumors for years, and the former probably wouldn’t have been acknowledged had Aegon not wanted Daemon. To “defile” a daughter of a powerful House would be to incur the wrath of her family, and a princess also had the same sacred status. He was also rumored to have encouraged Ser Morgil to claim that Daeron was the son of Aemon the Dragonknight, but he never went so far as to openly disown Daeron, which would’ve undermined his hold on power. Therefore, Aegon IV loved being king too much to ever cause a scandal that would anger powerful people.
The question then would be whether or not a marriage to Barba Bracken would have been a severe scandal after Queen Naerys’ death.
A Bracken in general is no suitable match for a king. The designated marriage partners for the heir presumptive to the Iron Throne were either Targaryens or Velaryons themselves (Aenys: Alyssa V Aegon the Younger: Rhaena T, Prince Aemon: half-V Jocelyn, Viserys I: half-T Aemma, Rhaenyra: Laenor V and Daemon T, Jacerys: Baela T, Aegon III: Jaehaera T and Daenaera V, Aelor: Aelora T, Aerys II: Rhaella T), members of a Great House (Prince Aemon: Jocelyn Baratheon, Viserys I: Aemma Arryn, Duncan the Small: Lyonel Baratheon’s daughter), or for political reasons that met the current needs of the regime (Baelor Breakspear married Jena Dondarrion to secure Stormlander support, Valarr and Daeron the Drunkard wed Kiera of Tyrosh to curb Blackfyre support in Essos).
Barba fits none of these criteria. She has no Valyrian blood, was not a member of a Great House, and would offer Aegon IV nothing politically (for example, wedding a Reach or Stormlander lady would help build a long lasting anti-Dornish faction to restart Daeron I’s war. The Brackens were a Riverlander family who attempted to curry favor with the Dornish appeaser, Baelor the Blessed.) There were other queen consorts or mothers of kings who did not meet these criteria either, but their husbands were not expected to become kings, much less were kings at the time. For instance, Betha Blackwood was Aegon V’s queen, but as he was the fourth son of a fourth son, he was allowed to marry for love; even if Aegon IV did love Barba like he said, he never would’ve been able to wed her without scandal, and he certainly loved power more.
Barba in specific would cause a scandal because of her “bad” reputation as a “ruined woman.” Yes, she was a teenaged girl whose only lover had been the king himself, but having a confirmed extramarital affair while Naerys was still alive (meaning that they had no intention to marry) would have condemned her as a potential traitor in the eyes of the misogynist Westerosi. If she had affairs while still a maiden, what’s to keep her from having them while queen? Any children that she had both before and after her hypothetical marriage would have their paternity called into question. The Westerosi take their adulterous queens very seriously, even when there’s no absolute proof of the adultery.
An Aegon IV/Barba marriage would bear the most similarity to Viserys I wedding Alicent Hightower; it’s a Targaryen king marrying a non-Targaryen, non-Great House woman, the daughter of his Hand, soon after his Targaryen queen died in childbirth with a stillborn son. The Alicent-Viserys I marriage was incredibly scandalous to the king’s Small Council, who advised him against it in favor of a match with the more “suitable" Laena Velaryon, since it had happened only a year after Queen Aemma’s death. Alicent was linked sexually to Daemon the Rogue Prince and Viserys I before her marriage, but these rumors were never proven, so she was a maid at least on paper. The Hightowers are also an incredibly powerful family in the Reach, ruling over one of the largest cities in the Seven Kingdoms, rather than a relatively minor holdfast ravaged by invasions. And of course, the king lacked a male heir. So while their marriage was scandalous, it wasn’t as scandalous as one between Barba and Aegon IV would be.
Based on the cases of other kings’ marriage, I believe that Aegon IV would not have married Barba for fear of creating a scandal that would undermine his power. The marriage would have offered him nothing politically, and instead would have angered his allied lords for choosing a “promiscuous,” relatively unimportant lady rather than one of their own daughters who had relatives who had fought in Daeron’s Dornish war. To say nothing at what it would do to his enemies, as Da3ron’s faction absolutely would see this as an attempt to undermine their prince’s ascension.
Question 2: How do you think it would have affected Aegor?
Suppose that Aegon IV’s need for a legitimate son other than Daeron was so great that he was willing to ignore the uproar it would cause amongst his allies and marry Barba. Would their illegitimate child become legitimate now that they were married?
According to tWoI&F co-writer Elio Garcia, a story about legitimizing natural children written by GRRM was cut: Apparently a young Lord Hightower took up with his widowed stepmother. They declared their intention to marry, but the High Septon refused to wed them. They continued to live as man and wife and have several children until the High Septon finally relented and agreed to wed them, thus retroactively legitimizing their offspring without them having to apply to the king. So it is semi-canon (although considering how many continuity errors have been recently introduced into the series, they may decide to go back on this one too -_-) that at least in some instances, the illegitimate children of a union will become legitimate if their parents married. It seems to depend on the High Septon’s willingness to marry them, which Aegon IV could easily buy/threaten/kill off the Septon and replace him with a more tractable one. Thus I believe that had Aegon and Barba wed, Aegor would have been legitimized.
Aegor Rivers becoming Prince Aegor Targaryen, second in line for the Iron Throne, would have made him an almost completely different character. He doesn’t have any cause to hate the Targaryens or Blackwoods, as Aegon IV never sent Barba away in favor of Melissa on Daeron and Aemon’s advice. Although I don’t think Aegon IV would have been faithful to Barba, I doubt he would’ve taken up with Melissa, so Bloodraven wouldn’t even have been born; furthermore, with their daughter already queen, Lord Bracken would not have pushed Bethany into Aegon IV’s bed, so she would stil be alive (yay!) As a legitimate prince, even if Aegor was absolutely rotten, Daeron would have been obliged to provide for him in terms of land, a court position, or even a diplomatic assignment at last resort. I don’t doubt, though, that Aegor still would have been resentful of those who slandered his mother for being a “scheming whore;” in addition, considering that Barba “replaced” Naerys very quickly as queen, the relationship between Aegor and Daeron would have still been cold and distant at best. Hilariously, Daemon would have spent his life as Daemon Waters, the natural son of Daena Targaryen, having never been acknowledged or legitimized on account of Prince Aegor’s presence; perhaps instead of turning to Bloodraven to undermine Daemon like in OTL, Daeron may instead have turned to his cousin Daemon to undermine Aegor’s potential influence. So Aegor would have been much less resentful, granted some land or important position, wouldn’t’ve had to deal with his rival Brynden, but still would bear grudges to those who mistreated Barba. Whether that was enough to make him give credence to the rumors that Daeron was Aemon’s son and join with the rebels depends on whether he agreed with them with regards to the Dornish treaty as well as Daeron’s mismanagement of the kingdom and dubious paternity. That all depends on how he saw the Reach and Stormlords during his childhood in King’s Landing, many of whom might have been the same lords who mocked his mother.
I hope this answers your questions, anon. It was a really fun exercise!
