Part 2: The Joyner/Giuffrida Collection Generations: A History of Black Abstract Art Baltimore Museum of Art September 29, 2019 - January 19, 2020 Next Stop: Perez Museum, Miami April 24 – July 26, 2020 Exhibition Renamed: Solidary & Solitary Final days of GENERATIONS, an extraordinary exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Art! We drove down early this morning after reading Seph Rodney’s incisive Hyperallergic Twitter post. We were joined there by our very close friend and Maryland resident, Charlene Hayes, her daughter, Kia Hayes and sons, Myles and Tyson. Check it out if you’re within driving, or walking distance, of this fascinating and historically significant exhibition. 1st & 2nd Image: Leonardo Drew, Number 185, 2016 "I am not a found object artist. I create material in the studio, and it is absolutely necessary for me to go through this process. The work echos the natural. We are connected to nature, not separate from it. We are all lived in and weathered. I do not distance myself from this process. I become the weather. It is important to understand the layering, the history, ant the nature of nature. There is the illusion of decay and burning., but it isl all done in the studio. Going through the whole process is important to my work." - Leonardo Drew, 2017 2. (L to R) a. Norman Lewis b. We're so excited to announce our Hot Picks artists for 2017-2018! 💚Top artists are selected from the Studio Program applicants by a panel of esteemed curators, arts professionals, and established artists. The panelists who selected the 2017-2018 were Rocio Aranda-Alvarado @artyrocio, Curator at @elmuseo, Kelly Baum, Curator of Postwar and Contemporary Art @metmuseum, and @sephrodney, staff writer and editor for @hyperallergic. See the full list via link in our bio. Here's Hot Pick artist @vickolors Victoria-Idongesit Udondian's "Green Badagry," who draws from experiences growing up in Nigeria and engages with repurposed material to investigate how fundamental changes in fabric can affect one’s perception of his or her identity, and ultimately a nation’s psyche.
