I have a question. Sephiroth age is said to be about 6 years before Cloud which would make him about 27 in Final Fantasy 7 [year about 1980]. But I’m a little confused about that. Vincent Valentine “Died” when he |Vincent| was about 27 (now we don’t know if Vincent was turning 28 or not) so that year could have been 1977 or 1978. Vincent Valentine birth-year is 1950 and I think, not sure, but didn’t he died a few months before Sephiroth was born. So wouldn’t that make Sephiroth age about 29 or 30 in Final Fantasy 7.

Why are there some sources that say that he 6 years older than Cloud?

Actually it could also be the beginning of 1979 if he was born in like January or February at most. But the last post I made before this states Sephiroth birthday and being born in December so I’m gonna go for 77 or 78 for now until there’s more clarification on the information itself.

Kairi and Galeem become besties for some reason, Galeem is a happy uncle but Kairi is just plane confused but ain't complaining

Riku and Terra just want Dharkon to leave them the hell alone

Kairi tried to throw hands with Ganondorf, Riku and Sora had to hold her back

Even more self indulgent KH headcanons

Kairi loves all animals and by all I mean ALL, she's friends with several sharks, has attempted to bring home multiple stray dogs home, has a pet pitbull named Monty who she would literally die for (touch and she'll break your legs) and has the summon charm for frankenweenie and wasn't even phased when she saw him she just went "Oh, a zombie dog... Neat! 😀"

Plus Everytime they find a cute animal she ALWAYS tries to attempt to take them home with her in the gummi ship (much to Riku's chagrin)

If Kairi encountered Marluxia or Larxene during the Keyblade War she would've completely maimed them, it would've been a bloody massacre, it's what they deserve after what they done to Naminé

Even after meeting they're somebodies Lauriam and Larxene she STILL doesn't like them she just tolerates them even IF they're Ven's old friends from Daybreak Town (Naminé tries to convince her to let go but that ain't happening anytime soon) she gives them death glares whenever Naminé isn't in the same room

Kairi and Naminé always hug each other or stay in physical contact with one another even when they're outside Kairi's room (I'm a sucker for soft sibling hugs and moments) Kairi gives the best hugs and Naminé is a tad touch starved from her time in Castle Oblivion so who could blame her sometimes when Xion comes to visit with her seasalt fam she'll join the cuddlefest (Everyone melts whenever they have they're soft sister moments)

Kairi is the protective mama bear and one hesitate to maim someone if one of her family members are hurt (she will also not hesitate to tackle said attackers, kick down doors, break through windows or break down walls

I like to think whenever Kairi panics the braincell immediately goes to Riku and she acts on impulse... Those impulses being jumping out the window or yeeting herself in into a corridor of light

If Kairi were to ever have her own rage form it she would've looked like Anti-Sora but with a pink and white color palette and light wisps instead of darkness, she would also act like an overly affectionate cat that would hiss at strangers

However she does have a drive form called Royal Form where she in cases some of her limbs in pure bright light, her eyes glow a fiery blue, she sprouts bright angelic wings and all her clothing turns white, she's also able to use op light magic and she has a finishing called salvation where she gets rid of all the darkness around her but she would instantly turn back to normal luckily it also all gives everyone in the party a temporary mega boost on both they're magic and physical prowess

If some girl or guy were to flirt with Sora they would mysteriously disappear an hour later Kairi says she has no idea what they're talking about Riku believes otherwise, Naminé is very concerned while Xion is just flat out confused

Kairi supports the LGBTQA+ Community

Xion is trans (everyone already knows that) and uses all pronouns but mainly She/They, Kairi loves her for being herself and would literally fight anyone who goes against that (including Axel/Lea and Roxas of course, Saïx/Isa is sorta awkward cause he used to be transphobic)

Kairi is the type of girl who would bite

Kairi used to be the feral nature girl back when she was 14 she still is but not by much

Xion and Kairi are the dog lover duo, Namine tries to stop them but fails

Xion and Kairi have both kicked Seifer's ass on seperate occasions Seifer is just avoiding Namine like the plague cause he ain't gonna risk it

Namine has stupidly strong magic, one time she was trying to cast a simple Fire spell but accidentally casted a Firaza spell the GoL was immensely proud even though a good chunk of them were confused and scared as hell

On an unrealated note Namine can control people's dreams now, and can also now manipulate others memories

Unfortunately the whole dream manipulation thing has a not so unfortunate side effect of making half dream eater (half-chirithy ti be exact)

Kairi and Xion think she looks precious, Riku suffered from a cardiac arrest and is now in the medical wing, Sora thinks she looks neat, Roxas has mixed feelings, Ventus also agrees with Sora, Terra loves her new look, Aqua just loves her daughter and Chirithy just wants to adopt her

my year of fic (2020)

I had a lapse in doing this, because the end of 2019 was just---a haze---but I thought it might be fun to try again on this, my first day off of 2021. Ignoring for a moment the armed sedition and the pandemic and the general feeling like the world’s about to spin upside down, I think it might be a good day. Let me try to feel some joy in writing, so that I might do some more writing this weekend. There’s a chance!

Per the AO3 stats tracker:

Total words written in 2020: 278,664 (Compared to 2019: 201,375 -- definite improvement!) That brings the overall AO3 published total to: 1,160,723. Jesus. I need another hobby, haha.

I’ll try to collect a year masterlist below, but let’s see what happened with stats first.

fic with most hits, which is not the same thing as best: no disguising truths i’ve sold -- y’all are fiends for the dadsex, just admit it. It always gives me a giggle how many hits these ones have with so few people actually interacting. :)

fic with most kudos, which I guess means people admitted they liked it: there will be better days -- which I guess isn’t a surprise, written when it was, but it’s still super gratifying to see that people enjoyed it. This one takes top spot for most of the other categories, too, so I’m going to go for the 2nd-placers on the next few...

fic with (2nd-)most comment threads, which I guess means people wanted to chat about it: In a Cursed Hour, which is a pleasant surprise! This is the very long gen (with sneaky pining!Dean), the first part of which was technically finished this year. I hope I come back to it at some point, because the story is... great, haha. Just super hard to write. Gratifying that people wanted to talk about it!

fic with (2nd-)most bookmarks, which I guess means people want to read it again: see things so much clearer -- aw, now that’s a nice surprise! This kinda felt like channeling old-school weecest, in some ways, so it’s cool that people seem to have enjoyed it.

fic with (2nd)-most subscriptions, which I guess means people are hoping for more: welcome to capitalism -- another nice surprise! I almost forgot about this one: a little ruthless, a little kind. Logical choices in a world that sucks, kind of my favorite genre, haha.

This is a---strange one---started in 2019 before the haze, published finally in a bit of ignominy, still not read by the recipient I’m pretty sure because it’s fucking depressing, haha. Possible Sephiroth backstory?

I heard someone's theory on YouTube about Sephiroth's backstory, which I greatly enjoyed and would actually love to see in the main story of Remake. So, I wanted to share with you all.

This contains spoilers, for those who haven't played the original FFVII and only Remake, I'm putting the second part of the theory under a "read more" to not accidentally spoil anything for you.

The theory goes like this: Soldiers in Midgar all have western-style weapons, except for Sephiroth, whose weapon is a katana. The only ones with Asian-style weapons, clothing, etc are the Wutaians. Sephiroth was considered a war hero, who ended the Wutai war. What if his katana is actually the weapon of Wutai's strongest soldier whom Sephiroth killed, and took his sword as a prize? Perhaps this soldier was a truly formidable opponent to Sephiroth, perhaps they had a long history, so claiming this man's sword after defeating him had deep meaning to Sephiroth. Not just as a symbol of being the strongest soldier, but it's also a bitter-sweet reminder to him that he now truly stands alone - that he's now unmatched not just in terms of strength, but also...alone in the world, due to his genetics and origins.

Sephiroth and Aerith seem to know each other in Remake by the way they speak to one another. There's obviously the timeline theory as a possible explanation, but here's another take:

Sephiroth always revered and looked up to Professor Gast. It's clear in the way he speaks of him. He most likely never knew who his biological father was, and refers to his actual bio-dad as "a walking mass of complexes", so it's an indicator that he wasn't particularly fond of Hojo. Professor Gast, as we know, is the discoverer of Jenova, the creator of the Jenova Project, and also Aerith's father.

Since Gast was so invested in Jenova (mainly because he thought that Jenova was an ancient), it would be a fair bet to assume that he was around for the first 5-6 years of Sephiroth's childhood. He might've been like a father figure to Sephiroth, possibly the only one who treated him with humanity and compassion.

Then one day, his sole protector and father figure takes interest in this woman named Ifalna who seems to be a Cetra. He spends less and less time with Sephiroth, who feels abandoned and alone in a cold world where he is treated like an object, not a person. Then one day, Gast disappears altogether.

He then finds out a year later that Gast has passed on, and the Cetra woman now has a baby named Aerith, and they now live in the Shinra building, where he also lives (presumably, we don't really know). Now 7-year-old Sephiroth sees her for the first time. Within him, he feels resentment. Hate, even. It's her fault. The loneliness, the isolation, the abandonment. And his protector's death. It's all her fault.

"Professor Gast...why did you die?" he laments.

As he grows, he has several encounters with her. He hates her stupid face, her stupid bow, her stupid smile, just wants to wipe it off her face.

If it wouldn't be for her, he would still live.

If it wouldn't be for her, he wouldn't have left and abandoned me.

I wish she didn't exist. I wish she was never born.

Some day, I will kill her, he thinks.

He carries that resentment for her inside of him into adulthood, when he encounters her yet again. She has crossed me for the last time, he thinks, when she tries to stop him from summoning meteor.

Then he descends upon her from above, like the angel of death. Plunging his katana into her back, impaling her.

I win, he thinks to himself, a sadistic smile on his lips as he plants his boot into her back and pulls his katana from her dying body.

Thus, the circle is complete. Like father, like son. Sephiroth kills Aerith, just like his own father, Hojo, has killed Professor Gast. Of course, he doesn't know this. Because he has never known his parents. The closest he has ever had to family was Gast, and he abandoned him, like he didn't matter. She took any semblance of a normal life from him, so he took hers.

This is just a theory. But I'm loving the idea of resentment and hate between the two of them since childhood. And the story behind his weapon.

I used to hardcore ship Aerith and Vincent. I still do, and always will. But now, I kind of want to see Vincent as more of a father figure or mentor to Aerith. My big hope for FF7 Remake is that there's way more interaction between the two of them, and a friendship. It would be a CRIME if they didn't have them be friends, since they have so much in common. Especially Hojo. I headcanon them to have a similar dynamic to Ron and Leslie from Parks and Recreation. I know it won't happen in game, but I have this image in my head of Aerith and Vincent hanging out and having fun throwing darts at a picture of Hojo. Vincent: Right in Hojo's ancient junk. Aerith: OOOOOH! IN THE NECK!

Anyway. I feel like they would have a lot to talk about and bond over. The big thing would be their past with Hojo, and Vincent having been close to Professor Gast in his work as a Turk (according to OG FF7). Since Vincent's father was a scientist who researched the Cetra, it would be reasonable to assume that Grimoire (Vincent's dad) most likely knew Professor Gast. I wonder if Aerith would ask Vincent if he knew Professor Gast (similar to her asking Cloud if he knew Zack). Vincent finding out that the Turks were hunting her down, having been a Turk himself, I'd imagine that he would feel guilty - and protective of her.

So, once Aerith is killed, Vincent's resolve to kill Sephiroth, and Hojo, would strengthen a hundredfold. And him going to the Forgotten Capital "often" (as he states in Advent Children: "I come here often") would suddenly be a punch in the gut, since it implies that he goes there to visit her grave.

Sigh.

How was the void?

The void has been both peaceful and extremely busy. Work has been hell, but I've been playing and streaming a lot of Dead by Daylight which is fun! I've been cutting out a lot of social media which has been good for my mental health I think. Tumblr is bad because it just scrolls for ever and it's hard to leave it.. hours disappear and I do nothing else.

I've been semi-active in Instagram though, both on Asylos and Mirintala (which is where the kittens go.)

Who are your top 5 villians?

I am having a heck of a time with this one. There are villains that have great aesthetics, villains who had a damn point, villains who I like for their fandom versions…

(In no order)

Handsome Jack of the Borderlands series, but probably more the fan versions from the stuff I’ve written with Fish and Mouse.

Dracula, various. Founding father of so many versions.

Wesker from Resident Evil, game series not the movies. Another case where fan version may be more influential here.

Silent Hill, the town. I think of the town itself as the villain more than any specific thing within it.

Sephiroth, because he’s fun to write as a character, not because of being a villain. We’ve done so much more with him as a fandom that Square did.

Top 5 moments as a cat parent 😻

I have been trying to think of an answer to this but it is so hard. They are my babies.

I love when I am feeling down and I can just call out “girls?” and they will rush over from the other room to see what’s the matter.

I love that when I’ve had a bad time, even Tavvy, who is so not a lap cat, has taken it upon herself to lay on me while I nap and comfort me.

I’m very proud of their hunting skills. Tavvy can snatch a bug out of the air like it’s nothing and eats spiders with no trouble. And looks amusing doing it.

Odell will just lay in my lap for hours, even after I readjust her.

And they’re both troopers when it comes to taking meds.

So I am close to finishing Final Fantasy VII remake and I must once again humbly ask for it to be acknowledged that Vincent, for who knows how long, possibly believes Sephiroth is his son.

Brad

So after answering the ask last night I realized I hadn’t discussed my backstory for Brad.

Basically it started out as kind of a joke, just being like, ‘oh why would someone American speak perfect Japanese’ and you know and wanting to do something with that so the backstory became basically Brad was/is an Army Brat and his dad was an abusive, overly ‘Merica, guy who didn’t like that Brad was embracing the culture he was raised in. In my mind the family had been stationed in Japan since Brad was about six months (sorry for edit I am notorious for typos sadly).

After rewatching Weiss I realized this sort of fit with the ‘burn the world’ down type so yeah.

So two answers to this: There's a scene in my Weiss fic where let's just say Aya (Ran) finally has to face something and it's who you would least expect that gets him to deal.

And two: In the Death Note fic there's a scene I've been working towards since it feels like forever where L finally has to admit he can't explain away an action without admitting feelings!!!

So this is actually from an RP, but I think it gets to the heart of how I view L, and how he might bottle up and not admit what he's feeling unless forced to:

"I did say I wanted to be remembered." L's eyes narrowed as he lost the battle to keep his voice from rising. "But I said I wanted to be remembered as me. No one knows you. Probably you don't even know you anymore you've been playing an act for so long and been so convincing at it." He smirked. "Oh yes, they are on your side now, but I'll bet it won't take much to change their mind. You don't mean anything to any of them. And most of them agree just because they will follow others. If sentiment were to turn against you, even a bit, they would jump ship and you know it. They wouldn't even blink. They don't think you're justice. You are just a new fad they want to follow." He moved closer to Light, even closer than he realized, as he continued. "Well I'm sorry someone's life has 'pissed you off' as you put it. I'll make sure not to bother you with it anymore. Wouldn't want any hint of any sort of consequence to touch you. That would be horrible." This was pointless, and L knew it, but it had all been building up for a while and he wasn't sure he could keep any of it in. "Yes, we wouldn't anything to come between you and your precious book. God, do you know how bloody fucking painful it is to know that you're losing against a fucking book? It's an inanimate object and yet you don't mean as much as it and you know you never will." Oh...oh...Misstep. L backed up just slightly. Fuck Light anyway. His first instinct was to run and try and get his bearings and to spend the rest of the night thinking of a way to deny, or at the very least, come up with an interpretation that would work.

6. What character do you have the most fun writing?

That's a tough one. I love Raistlin from Dragonlance, but I haven't done a fic with him just RP. Mello from Death Note and Yoji from Weiss are both intense in RP and just...yeah they are a lot and I love them both. Brad is moving his way up there strangely enough. I can't help but love my little creepy American who is way more Japanese in some ways.
