I'm Mr Brightside
Han Jisung fluffy College au
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are some facts in this world that you can’t deny; the sky is blue, the grass is green, and you and Han Jisung had a chemistry that couldn’t be ignored.
When your friend had first introduced you to her cute, freckled boyfriend and his wild bunch of friends, you were a little intimidated. Their loudness and exuberance had caught you off guard and you could’ve cried when she and Felix had left you to go to the convenience store, paying no mind to how awkward you felt with these new people.
However, you really needn’t have worried. Whilst you were sat there clutching your can of drink and pretending to look busy on your phone, a boy with rounded cheeks and brown doe eyes had sidled into the seat next to you and before you knew it- friendship was born.
Jisung was an incredible friend to have around, he was fucking funny, for a start. He also could be very sensitive when need be, and you and his introverted self gelled so well that you naturally just gravitated towards each other.
When your friends had coerced you into joining them clubbing after having pre-drinks in yours and your friend’s apartment, it was Jisung who stayed sat in the booth with you, chatting over cheap drinks and plotting how you would get the others to call it a night and go get a MacDonald’s.
When you were drowning in the horrendous amount of work your tutor had set you with a deadline due in a matter of hours, it was Jisung who stayed up with you, finding sources for you to cite, organising your notes and coming up with ridiculous ways to lengthen your sentences so you would reach the word count.
When your family pet had passed away, it was Jisung who surprised you by coming over with food, a movie and a “manly shoulder to cry on” which you snorted at, accepting all the gifts graciously before allowing Jisung to take you to the local animal shelter to pet some puppies and grieve for a little bit.
Jisung was amazing, but you can imagine his horror when he found out you had a boyfriend.
Said boyfriend had been left at home while you studied away at university, and Jisung couldn’t deny that he was absolutely sickened. Thus far, it had been an unspoken consensus that you and Jisung were bound to get together at some point. Afterall, you were the one he always scouted the room for at parties, you were the one he went the extra mile for on the daily, and you were the one he was constantly thinking about when you weren’t in the same room.
You can imagine the horror when Jisung swung by your apartment as part of a routine and walked in on you face timing your boyfriend. He couldn’t hide the sneer on his face when he observed how disinterested he was when you were sat in front of his screen, or how he interrupted you when you spoke. After that day, Jisung found himself becoming a little sulky around you and listening to Heartbreak Girl by 5SOS perhaps a little too often. You would often be comforting him or trying to draw him out of his shell, but you never knew for what reason because he would never tell you.
A new dynamic had settled in your group. Jisung liked you, you liked Jisung- this was common knowledge. However, you couldn’t ignore the tension in the room when the boyfriend was brought up. You may have just mentioned him in passing, occasionally you would have an argument or two that came with the long distance, but Minho’s eyes would flicker to Jisung’s concernedly while the blonde boy tried to remain unbothered.
“sounds like an ass to me.” Minho piped; his face full of mirth while you got flustered.
“He’s not… he’s just weird like that.” You had attempted to defend, though it was true, he could be a bit of an arse sometimes. Despite the truth in Minho’s words, it was to a certain someone’s dismay that it didn’t appear that you would be breaking up with this arsey boyfriend of yours any time soon.
Though it was painful, Jisung had been raised right, plus he wanted to maintain a good friendship with you at the very least. He had perfected hiding his emotions to a tee and reigned in the heart eyes out of respect for your relationship. As time had progressed you both got closer, a sort of chemical imbalance occurring as it was obvious yours and Jisung’s chemistry overrode yours and your boyfriends completely.
How about that time during movie night at Jisung’s apartment? The flat he shared with his seven other roommates was at max capacity with you and your best friend there too and it was at Jeongin’s request that you watch all the Woman in Black movies in succession. Having never been a fan of horror, and nor was Jisung, it wasn’t long until you felt your phone vibrate with a text while Jisung tried to look as though he wasn’t shitting his pants from across the room.
J: you wanna watch toy story in my room upstairs?
Y/N: I would very much enjoy that.
J: nice
It was Seungmin that had eventually excused himself to use the bathroom, which was where he thought he would find you after you made your great escape, but instead the glow of Jisung’s laptop catching his attention through the door that was ajar and You got a friend in me wafting from the room. You maintained a friendly distance in Jisung’s bed, the blanket was warm, but the heat Jisung radiated was warmer, you couldn’t help but feel the itch to tuck yourself into his side- like a couple would. Seungmin figured he’d tease you both for being pussies later, something was telling him that he should leave you both be in the bubble you created.
There was that other time you were sat in the boys’ kitchen close to midnight, your best friend listening intently with Chris and Felix while you bitched about your boyfriend over the kitchen table.
“So, remind me what he did again?” Chris questioned exasperatedly; his head tilted in your direction while you huffed into your mug of tea.
“You know that video I posted of Jisung on my story?” You elaborated, Chris and Felix’s heads nodding in unison as they thought back to the clip you had taken of the two of you. Like mature young adults, you and the others had been bored and tired of classes and thought it would be fun to let off some steam in the deserted play park at eleven ‘o clock at night. It was Felix who had suggested a game of sardines in the dark and eerie play area, and you and Jisung thought you were geniuses by hiding in the giant plastic slide. Not only had the boys and your best friend taken ages to find you and congregate in the same slide- while Chris was left scratching his head and scouring the park to find you all, but you had also taken some pretty hilarious videos of Jisung in the tube, reading the vile graffiti that teens had written in sharpie on the inside and at one point him losing a shoe in the confined space.
“Yeah, he was pissed at Jisung for literally no reason.” You vented, taking a sip of your drink and cringing at how the fun memory had turned sour because of your petty boyfriend.
“Pissed how?” Felix asked, curious about what he could possibly have had to say about one of his closest friends. With your back to the living area, you didn’t hear the soft pad of Jisung’s socked feet entering the room, you just continued to explain your tiff before Chris or Felix could say anything.
“He was saying stuff like: “Why are you always so close with Jisung? You always laugh with Jisung, you never laugh like that with me, you’re always so awkward with me now- blah, blah, blah.” You finished, rolling your eyes. You’d feel more sympathetic towards your boyfriend’s insecurities if they weren’t so irrational. He’d met Jisung on facetime enough times and hadn’t said a word then, plus he was acting like you should be totally friendless and unhappy so long as he wasn’t there to make you laugh. You couldn’t help that being with Jisung was so seamless, his charisma and humour complimented yours almost a little too well.
“I don’t know…” You sighed, still ignorant to the figure behind you, “… maybe don’t tell Jisung, I don’t want him to get all weird about it.” You finished, finally looking up to meet the eyes of the two boys who were staring at something straight over your head.
As soon as you saw the way that Chris fought the laugh that was etching onto his face, and how your best friend was looking like a deer caught in headlights, you just knew. You turned to face the blonde properly, he was dressed in sweats and a loose t-shirt, seemingly roused from his sleep and you couldn’t help but coo internally at his ruffled hair and awkward expression at what he heard. You had tried to mollify the situation, babbling explanations and telling him to not worry about your ass-hat of a boyfriend but you had no idea what was going on in Jisung’s head. He knew it was a little petty, but he couldn’t help but preen at his ego being groomed at the thought of despite knowing you for less than half the time your boyfriend had known you, the laugh that made his serotonin shoot was a laugh that you reserved for only him; and he was the one you weren’t awkward around.
****
“I’ll be down in a sec!” You yelled to your friend from your dorm room. It was 11:30 at night, late for a school night, but early in the evening you had planned. You weren’t a massive fan of the uni clubbing scene; more often than not, you were more likely to stay for the pre drinks and wave off your drunken friends out the door, but tonight you had made a promise to at least try and enjoy yourself. You gulped down the last of the vodka lemonade you had been nursing while adding the last touches to your makeup. It was impossible not to cringe at the burning taste of the liquor, but you’d do anything to get yourself sufficiently drunk tonight. It was a delicate balance; with the right alcohol, the right people and the right music you could have an amazing time- if anything out of those things were off, you’d be whining to go home in no time at all.
You put little emphasis on the right people, you had no doubt that the group of boys your friend had introduced you to were the right people to go out with- loud as hell and all with a lust for life that was infectious. You felt warm at the thought of seeing Jisung, despite seeing him most days, you knew he’d be the Clyde to your Bonnie tonight… If Bonnie and Clyde were notorious introverts, and not, ya know… murderers.
You could already hear the base of the grimy music thumping, and the yells and whoops of the boys from the communal kitchen. The LEDs that were lazily hung by one of your roommates flashed and changed and made the corridor look disorientating until your eyes adjusted, and you strolled your way to your friends with your empty cup in hand- eager for a refill.
Your friend greeted you animatedly from the entryway, Felix in tow as per usual, she spoke quickly about mixer in the fridge and how you would be leaving for the club at half past twelve at the earliest. You were only half paying attention, you could see in your periphery Jisung’s cute round face from his perch on the kitchen stool, his hands holding his phone but his doe eyes watching your form intently. In a matter of seconds, your eyes were making contact with his and you smiled warmly. You could see from his hunched figure and severe lack of a drink that he was feeling a little out of his depth- you knew the feeling all too well and wasted no time to stroll over to him with two cups in hand.
***
Jisung knew he was being obvious, try as he might to be subtle, it was impossible not to gawp at your figure clad in a cute dress and your ankle boots, gorgeous as ever and a little rough around the edges. He couldn’t help it, your presence was always a huge comfort to him, you were the best person to seek refuge with when he went through spells of anxiety and you were his favourite shoulder to cry on. He couldn’t supress the smile that crept on his face when you noticed his figure, both of you sharing a knowing smile when you grabbed two cups from the side and made your way over.
“Boy looks like he needs a drink,” you teased playfully, slinking up to his rigid body and swiftly twisting the cap off the bottle of vodka that was in reaching distance.
“You know me too well.” Jisung answered back, the undertone of an inside joke lingering around you. You were both cut from the same cloth; pretty much being forced to go out to the club when it was a mutual understanding that you’d just rather- not?
After sloshing a shot of vodka in the cup, you cracked open a new can of Redbull and split it between the two of you, chuckling at Jisung’s cringed out expression after taking a brave gulp of the concoction. Yeah, it was strong, but the key to survival and making the most of these kinds of nights was to get at least sufficiently tipsy. Worst case was that the alcohol never hit you and you would spend a sobering time circulating the smoking area, photobooth and seating area with your platonic other half.
The pre-drinks continued smoothly, a game of ring of fire ensuing whilst you were in an animated conversation with Jisung about your “game plan” for night.
“You know Changbin had nearly a whole bottle of wine before we got here, he won’t last the whole night.” Jisung attested, the both of you observing the boy laugh loudly while simultaneously trying to chat up one of your roommates.
“God, he’ll be sick before 3am, he’s drinking a desperado…” You gaped horrified, Jisung laughing before the severity of the situation hit him.
“Crap… I don’t really want to peel him off the kitchen floor again, he nearly vommed on my shoes last time.” The blonde shuddered at the memory. You just ruffled his hair affectionately, Changbin was a big boy, and you felt comforted when you noticed the watchful eye of Chris observing him from across the kitchen island; Changbin was in good hands.
The following hour flew by, you and Jisung making what you thought were accurate predictions on how you thought the night was going to go down based on your drunken friends. When it was time to grab your little cropped denim jacket and your purse, it was just shy of one in the morning, and you all began the small trek to the nearest club.
It didn’t escape your notice how close you were when you walked. Occasionally Jisung would stick an arm out and draw your waist closer to him when a stranger walked past, your hands brushing against each other’s in a frustrating game of will they or won’t they hold hands. Just as you were coming to the club’s entrance, your phone rang, and you couldn’t hold back the urge to roll your eyes. You shouldn’t have told your boyfriend you were going out tonight, he had choice words about it earlier and no doubt did he have choice words about it now.
“You could just not answer him.” Jisung mused gently, both of you joining the back of the queue and watching your phone light up with the call. Not wanting the impending argument to roll over to tomorrow you answered anyway, chuckling at Jisung and giving yourself some space while you had a conversation.
“You would love that, wouldn’t you?” Jeongin teased quietly, only so he and Jisung could hear. A swift jab to the ribs was what caused Jeongin to squawk, and then cease his tormenting. Jisung’s attention was recaptured by you; your inability to hide your expressions coming to the forefront when he caught sight of your scowl that was illuminated by the street- light that loomed above you.
“I can’t believe you went out anyway.” You boyfriend lectured, annoying as ever.
“I don’t know why you expect me to just sit around all day and do nothing? I want to have some fun for fucks sake-” You replied angrily, your temper quickly reaching a peak.
“You’re at a club! How do I know you’re not gonna neck it on with every guy there?!”
“It’s not my problem you’re feeling insecure… just leave me alone.” You quipped back, causing a chorus of “Oooohhhhs” from Chris and Changbin at your verbal take down. You were trying really hard not to giggle; this wasn’t a good time.
“Yeah, well, what do you expect? You’re always with that other guy how do you expect me to feel? Is he there now?” You glanced at Jisung anxiously, not really wanting to lie, but you knew what your boyfriend wanted to hear. “Well? Is he, or isn’t he?” Your boyfriend continued to put pressure on you, making you squirm.
“Well… yes, he is, but what’s that got to do with anything?” You huffed dejectedly, already hearing the loud sigh from the other side of the line.
“Just go home Y/N, have someone else walk you home or something, just go home before I get really mad.”
“I want to have fun, you can get really mad for all I care,” and you hung up with a flourish. Looking back up, you couldn’t supress the laugh at watching Felix pretend to drop a mic, the others jeering at you standing up to your dick of a boyfriend. You got back in line with Jisung, trying to shake off your pissy mood so as not to ruin your night.
“He really hates me, doesn’t he?” Jisung muttered, fiddling with one of his bracelets anxiously.
“You don’t mind him Jisung,” you comforted, “He hates everything with a penis.” You tried to joke to take the edge off. He did laugh though, so it kind of worked. Finally, you got the front of the line, presenting your IDs to the bouncer before making your way inside the illuminated building, your heart already vibrating from the loud music.
****
The club was an absolute mess in the best way. Choosing a highlight wasn’t easy- however at one point your friend had captured the attention of someone who was not Felix. You were fully prepared to go over there and snatch her back with no questions asked but watching Felix Mc Hammer his way over to reclaim his girlfriend was much more entertaining. Your pre-drinking had worked a charm, you weren’t off your face, but you definitely felt a lot looser than you normally would and as did Jisung, even daring to join the others on the main dancefloor at one point. You were never a sexy dancer, but that wasn’t the vibe anyway with the 2000’s hits the DJ was playing, and you couldn’t be happier to get groovy with Jisung to Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull or absolutely losing it over Avril Lavigne.
The mood was high by the time you finally decided to leave, your heart set on putting your pyjamas on and ordering a McDonalds before calling it a night. You clung to Jisung absentmindedly, the drinks you had consumed in the club making you wobble and sway with every step. You had been right about Changbin by the way; you knew it was your cue to leave when he announced he had vomited in the club toilets, a defeated look gracing his features.
You didn’t feel too great either, but the nausea in your stomach wasn’t caused by the alcohol. Your boyfriend had called back a couple of times, probably fuming at your last conversation, but for the sake of everyone enjoying the night out Minho had tugged the phone from your hands and promptly switched it off before handing it back. You couldn’t help but worry though, the inevitable wrath you’d have to deal with came closer with every minute that ticked by.
Finally, you stumbled back into your student apartment, eight boys, your best friend and a couple of your other roommates in tow, all ready to collapse into the living room and demolish some fast food. You excused yourself to your room to shed your jacket and shoes, your body failing you quickly when opening the door. Luckily, you had waiting arms to steady you, Jisung pushing the heavy door for you and following in behind, his stance looking a little wavy as he too- was very drunk.
“God, he’s gonna be so pissed at me…” You said to no one in particular, flinging yourself onto your bed. Jisung followed suit, the sound of your door clicking shut as he settled beside you and let his gaze fall to the photos and polaroids you had decorated your pin board with. He couldn’t help but feel his confidence inflate a little as he observed that a photo you had taken with your boyfriend had been covered up almost entirely by the pictures you had taken in a photobooth from a different night out with him. The four pictures were undeniably adorable, his favourite being the one where you both finally figured out where to look and both of your giant smiles taking the focal point, the other be the one where you were laughing, and Felix and your best friend had poked their heads into the curtain to photobomb you. Jisung took up an awful lot of your photos, from the slightly awkward smiles from when you first met each other to the shameless silly faces you pulled from the last time you had your camera out. Surely, there had to be a reason, subconsciously or not, why Jisung’s picture shrouded the person’s that you were supposed to be dating.
“Why are you still with him?” Jisung quizzed bravely, his drunkenness making him more confident. There was a sudden change in atmosphere, the air around you became thick with tension at the softness of his voice. You both knew he wasn’t just asking out of curiosity, there was a clear subliminal and unanswered question; why aren’t you with me?
“I… don’t know.” You answered honestly, your voice sounding so unsure as you flipped onto your side to face the boy properly. You propped your head up with your hand, your mind still swimming with intoxication as Jisung looked to you properly too. His hair was pushed from his face, his eyebrows furrowed and eyes bloodshot. He looked hot tonight, his light denim jacket and white T-shirt and jeans a simple outfit, but of course he made it look like a runway outfit effortlessly. “It’s not easy… breaking up with someone, we’ve been together a long time.” You explained softly. It hurt, to watch the disappointment cloud his eyes, so much so, that you stood swiftly to shed more of your accessories in order to distract yourself from the conversation at hand. It didn’t seem like Jisung was having it though, being the polite and gracious boy he was, he normally would’ve left the conversation at that, but being drunk and in his feels was spurring on a different side of him tonight.
“It could be though…” Jisung stood just as you turned to face him, your new close proximity catching you off guard and causing you to stumble back. “… I don’t want to upset you, but it’s not fair… he’s an ass.” He emphasised the last word deliberately, to which you couldn’t bring yourself to disagree. Jisung wasn’t much taller than you, but in this moment, with his newly found confidence he seemed to tower you, your figure shrinking in the small space. You took a step back, though you were mad at your boyfriend- you weren’t a cheater, but that resolve was becoming weaker and weaker as Jisung took a step closer to shrink the gap you had made wider. “I don’t want to do the cringe speech where I say how much better I am... but I don’t want to be with anyone else.” He took another step, and you took one back. Your dorm room was tiny, and it didn’t take much until you were entrapped by the wall and the boy in front of you. It wasn’t that you were uncomfortable, thrilled was probably the better word for it. Equally terrified and equally excited, you low-key loved this part of Jisung- but you didn’t want to be disloyal either.
You couldn’t think of the words to argue, because your argument was void. Jisung had every right to feel like he was the better guy for you… because he was. It was a tad daunting at how self-aware he was but any fool could see it. The air was so hot and thick between you, your words kept falling off the tip of your tongue as you attempted to rationalise your feelings, ultimately failing each time.
“You make me so happy; I’ve never met anyone like you… I don’t think I’ll ever meet anyone like you again.” He continued, taking one, final, baby step closer. You couldn’t have been any more than a couple of inches apart, his breath warm as it fanned against your face and it made your stomach flip.
“You’re drunk…” You tried, the last-ditch effort to deter the boy in front of you.
“So are you… plus they say drunk words are sober thoughts…” He trailed off almost cheekily, a dark chuckle sounding as his eyes fell down to your lips, his tongue poking out to wet his own in anticipation.
“Jisung…” You muttered, already knowing full well where this was going.
“…Just say no, if you want me to stop.” He murmured, his head dipping closer and closer to yours by the second.
Whilst your conscious was screaming at you to say no, push him away, slam the door on him, literally anything to stop what was about to happen from happening, you just didn’t care. Jisung’s lips were light on your own, first dipping down to kiss you experimentally, his hair tickling your forehead and hands wrapping around your waist lightly, before going back in with new fervour.
The only way you could explain the feeling was pure relief. The way he kissed you with both passion and a tenderness was something you could never experience with your boyfriend. Obviously, a part of this felt so wrong, but a huge part felt so right. The hand that slid around your side and the other that came to tangle in your hair had you fitting together like puzzle pieces. It took a minute for your subconscious to overlap your moral compass, but when it finally did, Jisung sighed contently at the feeling of you kissing him back with equal emotion. The taste of liquor remained on both of your tongues, your bodies equally warm from drunkenness and it made the room feel stifling. Only when Jisung had begun to tug and push your jacket from your shoulders, the movement of his head feeling like it had every intention of pressing the most searing kisses to the newly exposed skin, that you felt like you had to stop.
You pulled away stiffly, your body language evidently moving against its will. Your head fell back against the wall with a dull thump, your breathing slightly laboured as you let the silence and tension speak for itself. Welp, it was official. You had cheated on your boyfriend, to some degree… Shit.
“I’m sorry…” The boy in front of you muttered, his cosy embrace already slipping off from around you, making you feel cold and empty.
“Me too.” You whispered back, your head hanging. It didn’t need to be said, you both knew that no one, other than the two people in the room would ever know about what just happened. Jisung sniffed, shrugging his shoulders back in an attempt at getting himself together before pushing his sweaty hair from his face.
“I’m gonna go, order some food…” He spoke in a tone that was supposed to feel casual. You just nodded, allowing him to leave the room and walk down the corridor to join the others in the living area.
Jisung knew it was a mistake to kiss you, not because of your boyfriend, but because he knew in his heart that if he kissed you once he would inevitably want to kiss you again. Not knowing what it would feel like was one thing but knowing that it sent his heart into an addictive over drive, his nerves charging with electricity was something else. In short, he felt like an idiot; it already sucked enough to be the guy that everyone knew was in love with a girl that he couldn’t have, what sucked even more was that he knew for sure now that you liked him back. However, he was far too used to acting like he was unbothered, a skill he never thought he would have to utilise so much- until he met you. He had perfected the art of playing Mr Brightside, and no matter how sick to his stomach it made him feel to see you remain with the D-bag that was your boyfriend, he still had the ability to be a genuine and supportive friend.
****
Maybe it was more obvious to an outsider, but you weren’t dumb. It was clear that the longer you stayed away from your boyfriend the more your relationship broke down. A part of you was telling you to keep persevering because all relationships have their struggles, but another part was telling you to just dump his ass. You were more inclined to listen to the latter; unsurprisingly, the kiss you shared with Jisung had stuck with you for weeks. In the shower, eating breakfast, trying to catch up on work, any given moment your brain was occupied with the memory of his hands in your hair and the brush of his lips. Quite honestly, the most hot and heavy moment you had ever experienced in your life- not once had the guy you were in a committed relationship with kissed you with so much passion. You had attempted to actively avoid the boy for a couple of days, but it all just seemed redundant when he was living rent-free in your mind anyway. He didn’t need to be there physically; you were a mess either way.
Being the person that you were, you didn’t think to announce to all of your friends when the deed had been done. Looking back, the breakup itself had taken a bit of beating around the bush to finally come out with it, and a huge amount of explaining that you weren’t dumping him solely for Jisung. At the end of the day, he just wasn’t the one, and you had to assure to him and yourself that you were doing this for you and only you. Of course, you were quite saddened by how things had worked out, but the overwhelming feeling of freedom had eclipsed that after a day or two of moping around. Only you were aware for the first few days that you were now a single pringle, you didn’t want to announce it to everyone as if your life was some kind of reality show, so when the cat did come out of the bag you tried to be as lowkey about it as possible:
“How are you Y/N?”
“Doing better Jisung, thanks.” You fumbled, taking off your shoes.
“How’s the boyfriend?”
“… What boyfriend?”
You hid your smirk as everyone’s breath caught at your words, the silence that lasted half a beat deafening as you straightened up and made your way to the sofa to flop. Jisung was in shock, evident from the way his mouth gaped slightly at his loss for words, but his most guilt-tripping dream had finally come true.
The next few weeks was a true test of Jisung’s patience. He knew you, and despite your totally valid past complaining, he knew that you wouldn’t jump into a relationship with him immediately. However, despite the undertone of angst and anticipation that normally hung in the air around you two, it was more or less vaporised by Jisung’s hilarious and totally not-subtle flirting.
“You don’t understand Felix, Y/N used to be obsessed with Cody Simpson when we were in middle school.” Your best friend teased.
“So I liked blonde boys with Justin Bieber haircuts, sue me!” You laughed in response. The others laughed along with you, but not at what you had just said. Jisung was putting on an Oscar worthy performance of miming writing down this imperative information about your 12-year-old self’s ideal type, making a show of looking invested while you had your back to him.
You almost felt bad, your “mourning period” (as your best friend had called it) wasn’t nearly as depressing as you had anticipated. Frankly, you thought you’d be more of a wreck, but Jisung was making that nearly impossible, as not a day went by where you weren’t exposed to some of the worst pickup lines you had ever heard.
“If you were a transformer, you’d be Optimus Fine” Jisung exclaimed proudly, his eyebrows wriggling suggestively in an attempt to be smooth.
“Chris taught you that, didn’t he Jisung?” You deadpanned, trying not to laugh at his derpy face.
“I’m not Jisung right now… I’m Peter.” This caused you to choke out a laugh, the joke being that you’d only use his English name when he was being either a shameless fuck boy, or an absolute idiot. His chaotic alter ego, if you will.
The best part to come out of this was the freedom for being physically affectionate, the little voice in your head telling you to keep your distance finally silenced. There wasn’t time to feel upset about your long-term relationship coming to an end, not when you spent the time you would’ve been crying wrapped up in a blonde boy’s embrace, the rain pattering against the window as you indulged in some good true crime in your blanket nest. Jisung’s chest was the perfect pillow for your head, his arms that had become a lot more buff since he had been working out daily warm and secure around your form as you sprawled out half on top of him. You had no qualms about your questionable position when your eyes got heavy, the arduous all-nighter you had both committed to the night before finally taking its toll as you both napped to the sound of graphic murder on your laptop.
All of this went hand in hand with the previous consensus. You and Jisung were bound to get together. The question was simple- when?
This leads to the current situation. Now in March, it wasn’t long until you’d all be separating for the easter break, and so it was only appropriate to have one last meetup at one of the university’s bars and enjoy drinks for buy one get one free.
Walking out onto the balcony, you felt the mild breeze ruffle your hair a little, pulling your jacket around you tighter, you watched fondly as your friend did a little run to greet Felix with a hug and a sweet peck on the lips, you took your own time to walk over to the group of boys you were meeting.
As naturally as ever, your gaze met Jisung’s quickly, him sending you a little half smile as he moved his jacket to reveal an empty space on the bench beside him. Not wasting a moment, you sidled up next to him, already pulling out your phone to order your drinks and falling into easy conversation with the boy beside you. The others exchanged knowing glances, Changbin and Hyunjin rolling their eyes and laughing at how useless it was trying to engage you two in their chat when you were both engrossed in your own bubble.
The hours had slipped by; you barely noticed how dark it had gotten and the balcony was fully illuminated by the trendy twinkly lights that lined the perimeter. When the time had rolled from 10 pm to 11 pm, you all made the effort to grab your coats, down the last of the drinks and begin the dawdle back to your respective apartments.
Jisung knew his timing wasn’t great, but he couldn’t say goodbye to you for three weeks and twiddle his thumbs without at least trying to ask you out- officially. You were in no rush, walking and talking slowly to try and prolong the conversation you were having as you walked side by side along the river. Your laughter resonated along the busy street, the little alcohol in your system and Jisung’s usual funny self making your ribs ache with giggles.
The others were way ahead of you, and you felt your heart sink at the sight of your apartment building coming into view. You weren’t quite ready to say goodbye- though you could probably manage to visit each-other, and you would call and text, you would miss seeing Jisung every day. Your walk dwindled into a stand-still, the darkness making the campus buildings and various complexes look ten times prettier as they were illuminated, and Jisung held your hands tentatively.
The anticipation that you both felt continuously quickly built up, this time though, it felt like you had reached breaking point. The elastic band that was being stretched and stretched was about to snap, and your stomach flipped with adrenaline and fondness for the boy standing right in front of you.
“I have to tell you a secret, before I actually throw myself into the river.” Jisung chuckled, both his thumbs rubbing gentle circles into the back of your hand, his face a mixture of mirth and nerves.
“I’m listening.” You replied simply, trying to look sincere.
Jisung swiped his tongue over his lips quickly, daring to look you in the eyes for half a second before averting his gaze to the floor again. Clearly, “liquid courage” was the leading factor to his boldness the last time you were this close. You hoped Jisung didn’t need to be almost wasted in order to be as forward as he was before, the hot and heavy kiss you had shared previously wouldn’t be unwelcome in the near future. With a gentle squeeze to his warm hands did he finally gain a little confidence, his usual cheeky smile adorning his cute face once again and you braced yourself for what he had to say.
“I really, really like you.”
“Not really a secret though, is it?” You caught him off guard with your sass, his mouth gaping comically as you laughed at his expression, him still clinging to your hands. He couldn’t help but join in on your giggles though, your contagious laughter and easy-going personality made him wonder why he was so nervous in the first place.
“Whatever! Will you go out with me?” He asked, almost exasperatedly, now letting go of your hands and circling your waist instead, both of your bodies fitting together like a lock and key while you placed your hands on his shoulders.
“of course, I will.” You smiled, taking a moment to appreciate the way Jisung’s face lit up and the giant smile that broke out onto his features
Though it was cliché, it really felt like your “happily ever after” moment. In no time at all did you feel a familiar pair of lips make contact with yours, and a familiar hand trailing up your spine under your coat, coming to a halt at the base of your neck. You had the freedom to give into your instincts and clutch his jacket, pulling him in closer before allowing a hand to bury itself into his fluffy hair. You knew Jisung was never a fan of PDA, but it warmed your insides knowing that he apparently couldn’t wait until you were somewhere more private to do this. Honestly, you were so excited to start this relationship with him; he was already a best friend to you, and your connection had such a strong platonic foundation that meant he had the ability to make you laugh until you could pee whilst also making you a mess of butterflies and stutters. You smiled lightly when he pressed a tender kiss to your forehead, both of your faces flushed and lips swollen, you kept one hand interlocked as you tried to catch up with the others. Patience really was a virtue, it would seem, and Jisung couldn’t deny that it had paid off. No matter how much he felt tormented by your past relationship, he could sleep soundly at night with the knowledge that he would never have to be Mr Brightside ever again.

CH 4
The car accident wasn’t an accident. There was no animal in the road that caused her to swerve and hit the tree; there was none of that, she planned it. Your brain went numb but your body felt a sharp pain like someone took a dagger and rammed it into your chest. It was getting a little harder to breathe. You got up from your bed and started pacing. You had your hands above your head trying to expand your lungs, but you were already too far into your panic attack to get back down. You let out the first sob since Carter’s death.
Is this what dying feels like?
“Y/n?” Changbin called out.
As soon as you saw two of your best friends at the doorway, your vision got blurry. Chris could see how broken you were and he felt like crying right there. He was almost relieved that you were grieving properly, but this wasn't the way he wanted it to happen.
“Sweetheart…” Chris approached stepped foot into your room and you ran towards the boys, their hearts breaking into pieces as you covered your mouth, muffling another heartwrenching sob.
“Oh baby girl, come here,” he said gently as he pulled you against his chest. You spent a lot of time trying to distract yourself from the truth, doing anything and everything to avoid facing it. But eventually, you can't keep your mind numb forever. You cried and buried your face into Chris's shoulder, and he held you while Changbin rubbed your back for comfort. Your tears soaked into Chris's sweatshirt as he swayed you back and forth.
“We got you, we got you,” Changbin whispered as he threaded his fingers through your hair. You gripped Chris’s sweatshirt until your knuckles turned white. The sadness and anger that you kept under the surface came out without warning, and you completely lost it.
“Please bring her back, please!” You cried at whatever higher power was out there. Chris held you tightly as you cried into his shoulder. Changbin's hands had let go of you, but another set of arms reached out to comfort you. Though you missed Changbin's touch, you were grateful for Chris's warm hands on your shoulders, which helped steady you. Unbeknownst to you, your breathing had become more rapid.
“Hey y/n, hey let's take a deep breath okay? We don’t want you passing out on us, yeah?” Minho said calmly. You don’t know when he got in the room, but you were so out of it you didn’t know everyone was in your room. Before you knew it, you started panicking.
“I c-can’t, I can’t breathe,” you exclaim shakily. You cried harder than you have all month, and maybe even in your entire life. Your body was convulsing with sobs so forcefully and rapidly that you found yourself gasping for air. You knew that you would never see Carter again. No more trips to the lake, no more spontaneous visits to the Space Needle, no more concerts, no more walks to Pike Place. All of it was gone. You held your chest tightly as you struggled to take in air. Your mind was in a fog, you felt nauseous, you weren't getting enough oxygen, and it felt like you were living through a nightmare.
“I *cough cough* I want her *gasp*, back *gasp* *cough cough* please” you pant out. The younger ones were in a state of panic. You were hunched forward with your hands on your knees. Changbin walked to the center of the room and embraced Seungmin, who was frantically reaching out for his hand. Hyunjin was hugging Felix and cradling the younger's head, who was shaking in fear. Han was standing in shock with his arms wrapped around Jeongin, who was hiding his face in his shoulder blade. Minho moved a little closer and spoke as gently as possible.
“Y/n? Honey? Can I touch you?” He asked, waiting patiently until you nodded. Chris slowly let go of your shoulders once Minho had a steady hold of you. He took his time to gently take your hands off your knees, squatting in front of you so he could look you in the eyes. He slowly stood you up and put your hands behind your head so your lungs could expand.
“Breathe with me love. Let's do it nice and slow, alright?” He asked gently. Minho led you through a series of breathing exercises until you were able to control your breathing. Once you were no longer hyperventilating, you collapsed and Minho caught you, slowly lowering you to the ground and into Chris's arms. He embraced you from behind, holding you close to his chest with one hand on your forehead to help calm you down and the other arm wrapped gently around your waist. You covered your eyes, hoping to escape the overwhelming pain.
“Why did she have to go…” you wailed, relieving all the pressure that built up over time. The hurt, the sadness, and the anger were all being let out as Chris and Minho let you crumble because they would be there to pick up the pieces once you were done.
“Y/n…” Jeongin said tearfully. Your heart stopped. Shit. How long were they in your room? You could hear Felix crying into Hyunjin's neck while the taller of the pair gently shushed the sweet boy in his arms, shedding his own silent tears. You kept your hand over your eyes, not wanting to see their reactions, especially the kids.
“Binnie, can you take the kids into the living room please?” Minho asked calmly and kindly. Changbin nodded immediately and guided the Dongsaengs out of your bedroom. Chris held you close and kissed the top of your head. His lips lingered as he rocked you gently back and forth.
“Oh bubs…,” Minho whispered as he watched you break down. After what felt like an eternity, your hysterical crying died down to hiccups. Chris continued rocking you gently and Minho was rubbing your knee with his thumb.
“I’m *hiccup* I’m so sorry,” you said, working yourself up. Chris quickly and quietly shushed you. He couldn’t bear to watch you go into another panic attack.
“Shhh shhh shhh it’s okay, you’re okay, y/n,” he whispered as he petted your hair.
“Why are you apologizing, honey? You did nothing wrong,” Minho asked. You shook your head as more tears streamed down your face.
“D-did I scare the kids?” you ask tearfully. You swore you heard someone else bawling in the hallway; it sounded like Jeongin. Chris shook his head while rubbing your stomach with his thumb.
“They’re just worried about you, we’re all worried about you, angel,” he said calmly.
“What did I do w-wrong? Why couldn’t she come to m-me? D-did she really think I can just live without h-her??” you beg for someone to have the answer, but Minho only looked at you with sadness and confusion.
“What do you mean?” he asks, his eyes flicking back and forth between yours and Chris’s. You grab a hold of your skull, your head pulsating.
“Carter…t-took…she took her own- *hic* oh my god,” you cried as you dug the heels of your hand into your eyes, Chris and Minho exchanging looks of terror. Chris rocked you while kissing your head repeatedly, and Minho took both of your hands into his. Outside of your bedroom, Changbin guided the younger ones down the hall and into the living room. A bunch of them were sniffling, but Jeongin was crying hard. Changbin pulled the youngest into his side, handing Seungmin off to Han.
“Hey, hey we’re here baby, Hyungs have y/n” he reassured the youngest, but the poor thing couldnt calm down.
“I got the others, Binnie Hyung, we’ll be okay,” Hyunjin said, never letting go of the sweet freckled boy in his arms. Changbin nodded as he led their youngest to the bedroom, the rest of the guys going the opposite direction to sit on the couch. Changbin opened the door with one hand, keeping a secure arm around Jeongin.
“Binnie Hyung?” Jeongin whimpered. Changbin rubbed Jeongin’s shoulder.
“I’m here, I’m here,” Changbin whispered. More droplets fell from Jeongin’s eyes.
“Y/n…” he said brokenly before Changbin pulled him into a hug, running his fingers through his hair.
“Shh shh shh, she’s going to be okay. I promise she’s going to be okay, baby,” he said while trying to keep his voice steady. They were all a little shaken up from what happened, but Jeongin seemed to be taking it the hardest.
“I want to see her, Hyungie, I want to see if she’s okay,” he cried, gripping the back of Changbin’s shirt.
“We’ll get to see her love, but first we need to calm our bodies, okay? Can you do that for me?” He asked kindly as he rubbed his back. Jeongin nodded as he got into bed. Changbin promised to send you over to Jeongin once you were ready. After tucking Jeongin under the covers, he sat beside him, soothing him by wiping away his tears. Later, the three of you settled down in your bedroom, with Chris propped up against a pillow and you cuddled up on his side while Minho lay next to you two. They comforted you with soft touches and even whispered words of encouragement long after your tears had stopped. They waited until your breathing was back to normal before speaking.
“I know you want nothing more than to sleep, but let’s get you cleaned up, y/n, does that sound okay?” Chris asked as he moved a stray hair out of your face. You nodded as you let out a tired sigh. They took you to the bathroom and had you sit on the toilet lid. You looked in the mirror for a brief second before turning away. Your face and eyes were extremely puffy and red. Once he found the makeup wipes, Minho gently held your chin as he oh so carefully used a makeup wipe to remove the mascara that trailed down your face. You thought he’d stop there, but you were wrong.
“Minho it’s okay we don’t have to do all of that,” you say when he starts pulling out all of the products you use for your nighttime skincare routine. He gave you a kind smile.
“What kind of friend would I be if I let you go to bed without your holy grail, huh?” He asked with the sweetest smile, holding up your sleeping mask he gave you as a Christmas gift. You couldn’t help but giggle and you gave him the okay to proceed. Once the makeup was all gone, he took a warm washcloth and dabbed under your eyes and around your cheeks. You let out a sigh and closed your eyes; you were exhausted. Minho applied all the products necessary, because your routine was exactly like his, and hummed a random medley out loud to help with the tension in the bathroom. He wiped off his hands and put his hands on your shoulders.
“You are the strongest person we know, but don’t ever feel like you have to go through this by yourself, yeah?” He pulled you into his arms and rubbed your back as Chris smiled at you two fondly.
“It's just really hard…” your voice breaks as your eyes sting. Minho continued to rub your back.
“I know sweetie, I know, I can’t even imagine what you’re going through right now…” he whispered.
“I wanted to handle everything on my own, so you wouldn’t have to see me like this *sniff* so we wouldn’t be where we are now,” you admitted as Chris comes up beside Minho and throws his arms around the both of you.
“You’re grieving, y/n, and that’s okay, it’s perfectly okay, happy or sad, stressed or angry, we have your back no matter what. We love you, sweetheart, let us be there for you,” he said gently as he rubbed a hand up and down both yours and Minho’s back. You sniffed looking up at Chris.
“You’re always there for me,” you said with so much gratitude in your voice. You looked back at the clock before looking at the boys.
“Can I go out there and tell them what happened? So they don’t have to worry?” you ask hesitantly. They both nodded, even though they knew you weren’t okay, you were at least okay physically… sort of. The younger ones were going to worry regardless, but maybe they would feel a little better seeing you. The two let them know you don’t have to feel obligated to, and that you could just get under the covers, but you wanted to see the kids. They helped you up and guided you into the living room where four of the guys were. Two were missing.
“Binnie Hyung is with Jeongin right now,” Han whispered. Your heart broke even more if that was even possible. You nodded as you sat down on the couch. After a few seconds of silence, you spoke up.
“Are you guys okay?” you ask, cringing at how much your throat was hurting. You heard sniffling immediately after you started talking. You looked over at the source of the sniffles and then immediately looked down again. Felix’s face was red with dried-up tear tracks that trailed over his freckles.
“Y/n, shouldn’t we be asking you that?” Han asked, voice laced with sadness. He was wondering how even with everything that just happened, you continue to put their well-being over your own. Now you were questioning if you wanted to tell them the news, seeing how they reacted to you having a panic attack. Anxiety filled your chest before Changbin squatted in front of you and pulled you into a hug. When did he come back out?
“Breathe for us y/n, breathe,” he shushed you gently as he rubbed your back. Seungmin came up next to Changbin to hug you as well. You took a deep breath.
“Peyton found a note,” you said as Seungmin’s breath hitched, his arms wrapping tighter around you.
“Oh y/n…” Changbin mumbled as he rested his head against yours. As the tears streamed down Seungmin's face, you started rubbing his back in circular motions hoping to provide some comfort. You tried to compose yourself so that you wouldn't break down again, and everyone could see that. While you were in Seungmin’s embrace, Changbin carefully pulled back and gently took your face into his hands.
“Hey…you know you don’t always have to be so strong,” he said reassuringly. Hyunjin still had Felix in his arms while you looked back at him. He got up from the opposite side of the couch, knelt in front of you and tenderly held your face, wiping away the tears under your eyes with his thumb. Seungmin and Changbin got up so you could wrap your arms around Hyunjin's neck. Hyunjin kissed your cheek, and rocked you in his embrace. Felix got up soon after and came to kneel behind him, grabbing onto the side of your shirt. You reached behind Hyunjin to stroke Felix's hair; he looked just as devastated as everyone else.
“You’re allowed to lean on us y/n, you don’t have to go through this alone,” he whimpered as he wiped away your tears. You loved your boys so much, and they loved you more than anything. You pulled Felix’s head in to kiss him on the forehead. The three of you held onto each other until Changbin spoke up.
“You’ve had a long day, let's call it a night, yeah?” he asked gently as he patted your back. You nodded while still in Hyunjin’s hold, and the two didn’t let go until you did. Changbin wrapped an arm around your waist and walked you to your room. Everyone else scooted impossibly closer together and did a brief wellness check on each other. Back in your room, Changbin grabbed a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt that you stole from Han and handed them to you with the kindest smile. You silently thanked him as you went into your bathroom to change. After you came out, Changbin smiled at you.
“How many of our clothing items are in your closet?” he joked. You shrugged with a chuckle, and even if it was small, he would take that over anything.
“Not too many, I’m usually fighting with the kids over Chris and Minho’s clothes,” you giggle. Changbin smiles even bigger and pulls you into a hug. You hold him tight and let out a deep sigh.
“Do you think he’s still awake?” You ask Changbin as you pull away from the hug.
“He might be; he was hoping to see you,” Changbin said. You nodded looking into the hallway. Changbin squeezed your hand one more time before you walked out. Back in the living room, Chris suggested everyone get some sleep. Han roomed with Jeongin but he decided to go bunk with Seungmin. Once all of the younger ones were out of the living room, it was just Chris and Minho. Minho was about to walk out of the room before he felt a hand circle around his wrist. He looked back at Chris questionably.
“Hyung?” He asked. Chris looked at him with sympathetic eyes.
“How are you doing?” He asked gently. Minho shook his head.
“I’m not sure I know what you’re asking, Hyung,” he said quietly, looking down at their hands. He did, but he didn’t want to talk about it.
“I know that was a lot,” he said as Minho looked away, pretending like he didn't feel stinging behind his eyes. He let out a shaky sigh. Chris’s eyes softened even more.
"Min, if you need to cry, it's okay," Chris said, as he rubbed his thumb over Minho's wrist. Minho had always been the strong one for his brothers, but even he had a breaking point. His lip quivered when he made eye contact with Chris. The older of the two gently tugged on Minho's wrist, pulling him into his arms. Minho closed his eyes and let the tears flow. Chris rubbed his back as Minho silently cried.
“You did well Minho, you did so well,” he praised as Minho sniffled. He drew circles on Minho’s back, bringing up his other hand to leave gentle touches on his nape.
“I’ve n-never seen her like t-that,” Minho stuttered thickly.
“Neither have I,” he whispered. “But she’ll be okay,” he said. “She’s going to be okay,”. He wasn’t sure who he was reassuring, but they both needed to hear it. After some time, Minho and Chris parted and wiped their eyes.
“Are you ready for bed?” He asked kindly. Minho nodded.
“Yeah,” he whispered. As Chris was about to head to his room, Minho grabbed his hand. Chris stopped and looked back at Minho. The younger one didn't say anything, but Chris knew what he was going to ask. He gave Minho a warm smile and squeezed his hand, pulling him to their shared bedroom. Once they were under the covers, Chris held Minho in his arms, and the second youngest buried his face into Chris's neck. Chris ran his fingers through Minho's hair and over his neck, while Minho rubbed his hand up and down Chris's arms. They lay in silence for a while until Minho finally spoke up.
“Do you think y/n will want to go back to America?” He asked hesitantly. They knew that your internship was highly competitive and that you wanted to stay in Seoul, regardless of whether you got selected for it or not. However, considering the recent events, Minho had been wondering for a while if you would get homesick and want to go back to stay with Peyton. Chris took a moment to ponder upon it.
“Gosh Minho….I’m not sure. I want her to stay here but if she wants to go back, that’s her decision, you know?” he answered. If he was being selfish, he wanted you to stay, they all did, but they respected your wishes if you chose to go back to Seattle. The idea of not seeing you every other day if not every day made his heart ache. Minho nodded.
"I know... I just... I don't know... I want her to know she's her own person and is allowed to make her own decisions, but... the thought of her not living here anymore..." Minho couldn't finish his sentence. He pushed himself closer into Chris's hold.
"I know, agi, I know," Chris whispered as he pulled Minho even closer and stroked his hair when he felt wetness on his shoulder. The two lay there in each other's embrace, and by the grace of whatever higher power was up there, they fell asleep. As you walked down the hall, you ran into Han who was stepping out of the bathroom. He noticed the sweatshirt you were wearing and smirked.
“I was wondering where that was,” he said cheekily. His eyes were a tiny bit moist. Your heart hurt and he sensed that.
“If you need anything at all, we’re always here for you y/n, I hope you know that,” he said before pulling you into a tight hug. You let out a deep breath and nodded.
“I do, thank you, Hannie. Same goes for you, yeah?” you said. He chuckled. Their health was always your priority, they wished you could take care of yourself the way you took care of them. He squeezed your hand before retreating to Seungmin’s room. You took a deep breath and knocked on Jeongin’s door, waiting patiently for a response.
“Come in,” he quietly called out. You opened the door slowly. Jeongin gave you a sad smile.
“Hi,” he said quietly. He was wrapped up snuggly in a bunch of blankets; you remembered Changbin tucked him in.
“Hi,” you whispered. Jeongin sat up in bed once you closed the door.
“Are you okay?…” you asked. You knew it was a ridiculous question given you could see he clearly wasn’t okay but you still wanted to ask. Jeongin nodded slowly as you saw tears fill his eyes.
“Please don’t cry, sweet boy,” you whispered. Jeongin’s lip wobbled. Turned out he heard your conversation with Chris and Minho before everyone went into the living room.
“I just don’t- I…I can’t, I can't even fathom going through what you're going through right now,” he whimpered. You quickly sit down and pull him into your arms, and even though he is taller than you, he feels so small in your hold.
“I’m so sorry y/n” he choked out. You rested your head on his temple, shushing him gently. Jeongin’s tears were immediately soaking into your shirt.
“I can’t lose you, I-I can’t lose any of you” he cried out, fear evident in his voice. You cradled his head as he let out one of his worst fears.
“Shhh shhh shhh shhh…you boys mean so much to me, more than you will ever know,” you said, kissing his head and rocking him gently. “I’m sorry I didn’t reach out, I am so sorry.” He shook his head.
“I’m not m-mad I n-never could be. I-I understand. Just- you can always talk to us y-you know?” he said whimpering.
“I do know that bug and I love you all so much,” you said sincerely as you pet his hair.
“We love you too,” he whispered, hugging you impossibly tighter. Before you could respond, there was a small knock at the door. The door creaked open slightly and there stood a Felix, looking at the two figures huddled in the dim lighting.
“Are you two okay?” He asks, voice a little raspy. You look up at the angel and gave him a small grin.
“I think we will be, thank you Lixie,” you say stroking Jeongin’s head. Felix nodded and whispered “love you” before closing the door. You both stayed cuddled in each other's embrace, trying to provide comfort to each other, both absolutely exhausted from earlier. Eventually, you got under the covers and held each other tightly. Jeongin rested his head on your shoulder, and you were soothed by the sound of his even breaths. Finally, you both drifted off to sleep.

Cigarettes and Cliches (Part 8)
Pairing: Felix x Reader Word Count: 4.7 Genre: Collage AU, Slow Burn Romance Warnings: 18+, Minors DNI, Swearing, Explicit Activities, Alcohol
He was the most impractical guy for you to be interested in, the incredibly handsome cliché bad boy who collected girls like trophies. As hard as you wanted to hate him his persistence and hidden softer side just could be your undoing.
Managing to sneak into your shared apartment unnoticed you saw that both Seungmin and Jeongin's shoes were just abandoned in the entryway making you think they must have been at least more than tipsy when they got home the night before and from the lack of noise as you crept down the hallway it looked like they had not yet surfaced which helped you to relax and return to your room to quickly shower and change your clothes. By the time you had reemerged from your room and settled on the couch with a cup of coffee you could hear the sounds of bumping furniture and groans coming from one of the bedrooms which from the cursing that followed you recognized as Jeongin.
"Morning sunshine" you teased as his fluffy haired frowning face came around the corner into the kitchen, eyes scrunched up to protect him from the light.
"M’ning" he groaned, barely able to focus on you and he bumped straight into the cupboard he was trying to open to get a glass.
"How hard did you guys go last night?" you laughed silently getting up to help him get water and painkillers in his rather useless state “looks like it was a big one”.
"Seung and Minho had a drinking contest so he was fuuucked and I was playing beer pong and lost.... a lot" he smiled weakly taking the water and pills from you.
"I'll take some water and painkillers into Seung then and check he is still alive" you nodded knowing that they would have been so messy last night that they probably just passed out once they got into bed not noticing that you weren't home.
Taking a bottle of water into Seungmin's room you noticed he was still totally dressed from the night before and just laying on his front so you left the packet of tablets and the water on the bed side table and put your hand on his back to make sure he was in fact still breathing.
"Not dead, just wanna be" Seung's very croaky voice came from somewhere under his hood and bed head hair.
"Just checking, there's something to help" you smiled, patting his head and walking back out to the lounge room. Your phone chimed so you fished it out of your pocket to see who was texting you, only to hear more loud swearing from the kitchen as Jeongin spilled his coffee all over the counter and began wiping it up begrudgingly making you giggle again. Stepping around him you helped him pour another cup.
When can I see you again baby? I already miss you.
You read the message and grinned at the butterflies that were now filling your stomach, and were starting to make you feel a little giddy. Felix always knew how to make you feel like a silly little school girl without any effort at all.
"What are you smiling at?" Jeongin asked, screwing his eyes up as he walked into the brighter side of the room clutching the coffee in his hands tightly.
"Just funny memes" you lied easily knowing he was too hungover to challenge you anyway.
"Oh you free tonight?" He blurted suddenly louder than you expected as the thought popped into his head.
"Yes.... why?" you blinked recovering from the jump scare he had just unintentionally delivered to your system.
"Dinner, all of us, tonight" he looked up at the ceiling like he was trying to remember all the facts he needed to tell you. "So like us, Chan, Changbin and Han, maybe the whore club at 8 but I forget where".
"I can do dinner but maybe give me Chan's number so I can text him for the details" you chuckled slightly at how much Jeongin was struggling to function "Then go back to bed Innie I'll order us food for lunch that you can eat when you wake up again".
"Thank you, you are the fucking best you know that? Plus hot you're also hot" he mumbled giving you his unlocked phone and shuffling back to his bedroom. You opened his contacts scrolling through until you found Chan's number then added it to your phone, also copying out Changbin's and Han's contacts in case Chan was in the same position that Innie was in.
“When did the agreement between you and Seung to tell me I look hot or cute or whatever happen?” you asked in confusion, after his retreating figure but he totally ignored you disappearing into the darkness of his room.
Are you and the guys coming to dinner tonight?
You quickly texted to Felix before composing a text that didn't seem too random or confusing to Chan, in case he too was as under the weather as your two roommates. His reply came back pretty quickly giving you the details and being amazed that you had actually even spoken to either of your severely hungover friends.
The thing at Chan’s? Yeah we're going. We will have to sneak off so I can kiss you again baby
The images that your mind created of the two of you sneaking off had a flush creeping across your cheeks and down your neck as you read Felix’s reply. You would have to make sure that if you could sneak away you would and then it hit you that if you snuck away with Felix it would essentially be lying to your friends and the guilt began to set in. Not telling either Seungmin or Jeongin was essentially lying by omission and that made you a terrible friend in your mind at least, friends don't willingly lie to their friends about things like this.
Going back into your room you started up on some homework that you knew you should have been getting done but had left for a few days. If you were going to use the too busy to come home because of schoolwork excuse you needed to get as far ahead as possible so it was believable. You knew the two small tests you had at the start of the semester were going to be easy you had been prepared for them before they were announced knowing that they were also only a mock partial exams helped too since you could, hopefully ace them, and make your parents think you were now back in the top position in each of your classes. You also knew you needed to finish the last draft of a major assignment so that you wouldn’t have to deal with the stress later. By the time lunch time rolled around and you were hungry the others still hadn’t ventured out of their rooms so you ordered as much fried chicken as you could knowing that they would be happy to eat it left over if they didn’t surface when they smelt it.
You pulled out some clothes to wear for the dinner and put them on the end of your bed, you knew you didn’t need to dress up to go the Chan’s apartment so you just grabbed some jeans that were a little tight around your butt and a slightly cropped top to that it would look like you hadn’t made no effort but you weren’t hoping to impress anyone. The buzzer from the door camera let you know the chicken had arrived and you went down to get it hoping that you would feel less nervous about what would happen later that evening. As you had predicted Seungmin managed to surface as the smell of fresh hot fried chicken followed you up the hallway and Jeongin followed suit sitting down at the table while you got them a hangover cure each and yourself a juice.
“Fried chicken, top choice” Seungmin smiled, taking a drumstick and tearing into it like a starving caveman making you pinch the bridge of your nose.
“Again the best” Jeongin agreed, picking up his own piece but not shoving it in his mouth quite as enthusiastically as Seungmin.
“I texted Chan and it's 8 o’clock tonight and their apartment” you informed both of them “I said you were both in but you can text him if you don’t want to go”.
You showered and started getting ready, your preplanned outfit and basic makeup to make you like nice but not too out of the ordinary, finally throwing Felix’s hoodie over your outfit so that you would be warm on the way there and also so you smell his scent without actually being close to him. If Seungmin or Jeongin noticed that it was a different hoodie they didn’t say anything but you did often wear super comfortable clothes which did annoy Jeongin at least to no end, so another large hoodie was nothing to take note of. Jeongin drove, having been sure that he was not going to have any alcohol left in his system and you sat in the back watching the buildings go by until you got to Chan’s. Knocking on his door, you waited with the boys watching the last of the colored traces of the day fade into the inky darkness of dusk, you suddenly realized that this must be what it was like to be normal, have a normal social life and a normal set of friends. It caused a small ache in your chest suddenly like you had missed out on something very important but it also gave you a rush of fondness for the two boys standing either side of you leaning on either the stair railing or the wall beside the door.
“Oh you two aren’t dead! Well done” Han laughed as he let you all in, listening to Seungmin grumble something under his breath as you slipped off your shoes “I’m glad you could make it tonight” He grinned at you turning his attention away from the others.
“Hi Han” you smiled back following him up the hallway to the lounge.
“The princess and her two trolls are here” Han announced as you turned into the kitchen waving to everyone else that was there. Changbin chuckled as whatever Jeongin called from down the hallway was muffled by the sounds of the six guys already milling about talking. Felix's eyes were already on you when you looked towards them, his lips turning up at the corners making you subconsciously bite your lower lip in response.
“Pleased you actually got the message about tonight” Chan shook his head at the teasing that was already ramping up.
“Thanks for inviting me Chan” you replied, making your way around the kitchen to the other side of the island bench trying not to stare at Felix as you went.
“Hello kitten” Minho smirked as you sat yourself on one of the bar stools making you roll your eyes at him.
“Minho, you seem to be in pretty good shape considering you tried to kill Seung last night” you raised your eyebrows at him finally noticing the identical looks of mischief on both he and Hyunjin’s faces.
“Aw, didn’t know you cared so much” he teased, easily making Feix’s jaw clench and you rub your temples in faux annoyance and Jeongin came and sat down next to you placing a drink in front of you.
“Ignore Captain fucks-a-lot” he sighed sticking his tongue out and Minho.
“Rude” Minho laughed playfully, punching Jeongin and going to grab a beer from the fridge.
“We're just getting pizza. Is that good for you?” Chan asked, drawing your attention away from the others.
“That’s perfect. As long as it doesn’t come with a side of anyone's psycho ex” you quipped making Han and Seungmin burst into laughter.
“Yeah I can assure you the place we get our pizzas from doesn’t have that” Chan beamed, seeming much happier that you were comfortable enough to be cracking jokes.
“When are you coming out to party with us again?” Changbin asked loudly, his voice easily blocking out the others.
“Um, I don’t know” you shrugged “I don’t want anyone to feel like they have to babysit me” you pointedly looked and Seungmin then Jeongin.
“Hey! we have cause, Felix had to rescue you last time” Seungmin challenged playfully.
“Yeah then had to sit through accusations of having sexy eyes by Innie” you gestured with your thumb to the boy to your right.
“When did I say that?” Jeongin yelped, completely confused.
“While you were staring at the ceiling I think” you recounted “you slurred something about why the fuck was Felix in the apartment, something about me being off limits and no sexy eyes then Seung had to help you get to bed”
“All of that is in fact true bro”Seungmin confirmed as more laughter filled the room.
“Well I don’t remember it so it didn’t happen” Jeongin sulked, pouting slightly. Chan ordered the pizzas on his phone and got everyone more drinks, turning on the TV to pass time until all the food arrived. You noticed how close Hyunjin and Minho were to Felix and how annoyed he seemed to be at them so you just kept your distance and subtly watched them trying to figure out what was up. Feeling a little warm with all the scrutiny you slipped Felix’s hoodie over your head laying it on your lap until you could put it somewhere safe, you didn’t notice the look that Felix gave you as your shirt rode up or the fact that all the others had seen slightly more of you than you had planned.
“So what are you doing this week? Want to come hang out with us?” Changbin asked, clearing his throat and breaking you away from another glance at Felix.
“I’m back at work next week but you can always come by and hang out there if you come around my break” you looked from him to Han who were both sitting on the other lounge to you.
“Did those bitches get expelled too?” Felix interrupted, confusing just about everyone else.
“Yes, both of them did. You don’t have to worry Felix no one is throwing hot coffee on me” you sighed heavily frowning lightly.
“Hold the fuck up what?” Han spat his voice harsher than normal as he looked between you and Felix.
“Two of Nali’s friends had planned to throw coffee on me at work, they were reported to the police and they were part of the group expelled so it’s fine. It’s over now” You explained biting on the inside of your cheek.
“Well we will definitely drop by the cafe then so we can keep an eye out” Chagbin nodded, his tone turning serious and Han and Chan both looked concerned.
“That old guy at the convenience store was right. I do have far too many bodyguards” you groaned, a loud knocking on the front door indicating that the food had arrived and you were being saved from furthering the conversation about how Felix knew this and some of the others didn’t. Lining all the pizzas up in the kitchen you all grabbed plates and helped yourself going back into the lounge to eat Chan putting a movie on in the background to fill the silence of you all chewing.
“Forgot to mention princess” Hyunjin grinned slyly “You looked extra cute in that hoodie”.
“Um, thank you Hyunjin” you answered slowly, looking at him suspiciously, noting that Minho raised his eyebrows suggestively from where he sat next to him.
“I swear I’ve seen one like that before” Minho added Hyunjins smirk growing and Felix who was now sitting at the end of the lounge beside Han and Changbin narrowed his eyes deliberately making you catch on finally to where they were going with the compliments, your stomach dropping at the realization that they both knew, because of course they knew, they lived with Felix they would recognize his clothes and here you were wearing it in front of them like an idiot.
“I imagine because it isn’t the only one in existence” you shot back hoping to sound sarcastic not panicked.
“What are you two up to?” Seungmin snapped at them, making them dissolve into knowing chuckles.
“Fuckers” Felix muttered quietly gritting his teeth.
“Idiots” Han rolled his eyes “So what kind of hours do you actually work? Can we just come hang out?”
“Oh yeah you can come by and just stay for as long as you want” you grinned toothily happy for something to change the conversation “I’m on pretty much every afternoon for the next week so starting at 2 finishing at 7. So I guess we could grab dinner one night instead if that was easier for you guys too” you mused thinking as you pulled out your phone to check if anything else was on your schedule.
“Absolutely” Chan nodded “That sounds like a good idea for us all to hang out without too much organizing”.
“And Seung and I can keep an eye out for you” Jeongin added, looking at you seriously.
“I swear you are more protective than my dad” you grumbled playfully making both Seungmin and Jeongin flush with embarrassment.
You continued talking about stupid stuff all only partially concentrating on the movie that was still playing in the background and eating until you felt like you couldn’t eat anything else. It was just another standard superhero movie so the fight scenes and graphics were easy to get lost in. Excusing yourself to the bathroom you made your way up the stairs phone in your hand as it chimed with a text.
God you looked so good in my hoodie baby ;) Just want you all to myself
You couldn’t help the spark that shot through you at Felix’s words chewing your lip. You thought about how forward you wanted to be when you responded.
I like wearing your clothes Lix, I like feeling like I’m yours.
You took a huge breath before you pressed send hoping that he would respond to that in a good way and not think you were being too much of a tease, even though part of you knew he would never think that considering how much you had already made him wait to even touch you let alone kiss you.
Fuck baby are you trying to get me to kiss you? because that is exactly how you get that to happen saying things like that.
You swallowed hard, Felix probably looked totally indifferent as they all say around drinking beer and matching the movie while you were standing in the bathroom looking like a tomato had decided to replace your face. Holding your hands under the cold running water you pressed them to your cheeks to try to calm yourself down. A soft knock made you freeze on the spot.
“It's just me baby” Felix chuckled quietly, almost sensing your dilemma. Letting out the breath you were holding you opened the door for him to find him leaning against the door frame looking devilishly handsome.
“Hi” you whispered as he stepped into the bathroom, instantly sliding his hands around your waist, his fingers brushing against your skin agonizingly slowly, before pulling you against his chest pausing to let you decide what happened next. Leaning into him you brushed your lips against his tentatively feeling him smile against your lips.
“You are definitely going to be the death of me” he murmured, kissing you needily pulling a soft moan from you as his teeth tugged on your bottom lip. Pulling away from him gently you backed out of the bathroom hoping no one would be any the wiser leaving him to shut the door behind him.
“You know I will never understand why girls take so long in the bathroom” Hyunjin smirked as you finally returned to the lounge and slipped back into the seat you had been occupying.
“I’m pretty sure it’s because we have better hygiene” you quipped looking at Hyunjin expectantly only for the others to laugh and whatever comeback he had to die on his tongue. Felix returned a couple of minutes later going to the fridge to get another drink.
“So I heard through a couple of girls that you are claiming to have a girlfriend, Lix. What the fuck is with that?” Han asked mockingly, making the others all laugh.
“Really? Is that because they came to you after I turned them down” Felix smirked, one eyebrow raised challenging Han.
“Are you going through our sloppy seconds Hannie?” Minho jeered, laughing at Han’s shocked face.
“Hardly sloppy seconds if she got rejected, is it?” Seungmin asked, brow furrowed in faux confusion.
“Even worse she’s bad enough to get turned down by Lix and you can’t even get her” Hyunjin cackled, throwing his head back.
“Who said she turned me down? But that isn’t what I was asking” Han pushed leaning towards Felix as though he expected an answer.
“Wow I’m gone for 5 minutes and were being mysoginists and slut shaming nice one boys” you screwed your nose up in slight disgust.
“Slut shaming?” Changbin parroted looking at you for an answer.
“You know most women love being referred to as sloppy seconds. It really makes us feel loved and respected” you replied deadpaned crossing your arms across your chest.
“Oh shit yeah, sorry about that” Han sheepishly scratched the back of his neck apologetically.
“I don’t care where any of you stick your dicks, as long as they aren’t psychos, but can you not be so gross in front of me?” you asked with slight disgust in your voice.
“You are right, of course we will be respectful from now on,” Chan promised, genuinely making the others murmur apologies to you and dropping the subject all together for the moment. As the night continued on you yawned your head falling back against the back of the lounge with a soft thud.
“We should get you home” Jeongin interrupted, patting your shoulder lightly. Both he and Seungmin had decided not to drink, which you were thankful for because you didn’t really want to have to visit them in hospital with alcohol poisoning.
“I’m alright Innie, we can stay as long as you want” you smiled lolling your head towards him. “Besides it’s nice to be here and not be puking with stress that a random lunatic has caused" making him grin at you.
Seungmin pulled you to your feet, stopping you from collecting the last of the plates scattered around the room and walked you towards the kitchen with Jeongin behind you. You waved around Jeongin's shoulders before stepping into the hallway and getting your shoes to go home. It had been a really nice evening. You had fun hanging out with them and nothing bad had happened which you felt was a huge success considering your previous visit to Chan’s place. Watching the streetlights pass the car window, your drooping eyelids were interrupted by your phone chiming and Seungmin and Jeongin’s conversation from the front seats.
Goodnight baby, I miss you already ;)
You typed back knowing that Felix wouldn’t be able to avoid the questions the others had now that you were away from them but that he could talk his way out of just about anything you had seen him do just that before, throwing out something else that could be used to take the piss out of one of the others to avoid having to admit anything .
Goodnight Lix
“So do you reckon the girlfriend thing is a cover to try to keep himself out of trouble? Or do you think there is some poor girl he’s leading on because she’s not bright enough to know what he’s like?” Jeongin asked Seungim, turning his head to look at him, his face red from the brightness of the traffic light in front of you.
“I’d like to think it's the former to be honest. Hyunjin said he got chewed out by the university head after the stuff with Nali so using it as an excuse to keep other loons away is a good cover” Seungmin shrugged checking the traffic before turning.
“There is a third option though but to be fair I don’t even want to entertain the idea” Jeongin sighed, checking the mirror on the back of his visor to look at you while you looked at your phone pretending to be oblivious to the conversation they were having.
“I thought of that too and I’ll be honest I don’t love the idea but we can do anything about it either way” Seungmin muttered still staring out at the traffic around you.
“I know but I worry” Jeongin sighed. “What if it turns out like last time?”. Silence filled the car and you figured the conversation must be over so you leaned against the car window shutting your eyes.
“It’s not the same situation, and Felix isn’t Hyunjin” Seungmin finally conceded, making you wonder what the hell they were talking about. You stayed in the position you were in until your phone chimed again making you frown as you opened the message.
Baby. I’m sorry Hyunjin recognized the hoodie and told Minho so they have figured it out. Well they think they have figured it out.
The feeling that bloomed in your stomach was not easy to identify, it wasn’t fear and it wasn’t worry it was something else, making you wonder did you actually care if people knew you were dating Felix? Was what was happening between you even dating?. You could tell from the way Seungmin and Jeongin spoke they were referring to you and Felix just now but they didn’t seem angry, they seemed concerned or even a little bit unwilling to accept that perhaps there was something between you.
Your thoughts were jumbled, what if the revelation of you and Felix being together made people think that there had been some truth to what Nali has said about you? Or what if by some bizarre set of circumstances your parents found out and had you pulled from university? There was no way that you could imagine that they would realistically find out, no one from home knew what you were even studying let alone what your personal life was like and none of the guys would rat you out to parents they knew treated you badly. Remaining deep in thought you missed the following messages that he sent, not even realizing until you were in your room 20 minutes later.
They won’t tell the others if you’re scared of their reactions, baby. They wouldn’t hurt you like that.
I’m willing to tell everyone we’re together if that’s what you want.
I know this is new to you, I don’t want to push you baby.
Are you overthinking again?
I’m guessing from the silence you are, I'll give you some time then.
Staring at the messages you weren't sure how to react. You had been on one date with Felix. You had kissed him a handful of times and you had shared a bed when you had gotten caught in the rain. But the futhest he had gotten with you was making out and he had even apologized about moving to fast when you had. But the fact that he had called you his girlfriend and told you repeatedly he was serious about you didn’t change thee fact that neither of you had actually discussed it, he had told you he had said it to make girls feel less hurt when he turned them down and when he said it to you it was always unserious.
Felix, am I your girlfriend? Is that what this is? Or are you still just saying that to let other girls down gently?
You washed up and changed into some pajamas so you were ready to go to bed while you waited for him to reply with anxiety gripping at your chest as you waited for the little dots to show he was typing.
Will you give me that chance? I only want you no one else matters to me just you.
Before you could answer Felix you needed to know why Seungmin and Jeongin were comparing you and Felix to their previous roommate and Hyunjin and why it was some kind of sticking point for them and since you weren’t sure if you would get the full story from them you knew you would need to ask some of the others or even Felix before you could make a decision.
A/N: Thank you for reading my lovelies as always your support means the world to me xx

Still Be Friends?
Hi! Due to a request, I'll also be posting it here on Tumblr. Please reblog and comment if you enjoy it.
If you so care to enjoy it on AO3: Still Be Friends?
Chapters: 1/? Fandom: Stray Kids (Band), K-pop Rating: Mature Warnings: Drinking, Mentions of sex,
“Really Ahmi, how many times do I have to tell you to get out more?” Minho scoffs before piling food into his mouth. Ahmi rolled her eyes as he talked with his mouthful.
“You’re such a fucking pig,” Ahmi scoffed in disgust.
“But I’m your pig,” he teased gently before his girlfriend was shoving him playfully.
“I thought you were my piggy, Min!”
Ahmi couldn’t help but smile at the couple, but she attempted to hide it by gagging.
Minho and Itsumi were always glued to each other's side, and as Ahmi’s roommate, Itsumi was her obligatory best friend. So when she got Itsumi, she also got Minho.
It must have been nice. Both of them were so outgoing, and Ahmi could swear that every time she was out in public with them, the couple said ‘hi’ to at least five people. She unfortunately couldn’t relate. No matter how hard she tried, she could never jump the hurtle.
“But really, Ahmi… you should get out more. You don’t want to be stuck with me and Minho all year, do you?” Itsumi asked with a pout.
“Maybe I do,” Ahmi shrugged. “I don’t mind hanging out with you guys!”
“But there’s a whole world out there waiting for you to explore!” Itsumi smiled as she wiped Minho’s mouth. “You don’t want to miss out on all the fun.”
“And I want to fuck my girlfriend once in a while!”
“Ew…” Ahmi cringed. “I’m just not really into parties…”
“Is it that you don’t like parties, or you’re just scared of putting yourself out of your comfort zone?” Itsumi asks. “Maybe it’s time to step out of your personal bubble!”
“I don’t want to get out of my comfort zone.”
Minho patted her on the back. “Come on, Ahmi. We’ll have you acting like a party pro in no time!”
Ahmi glared. “I said I didn’t-”
“I know,” Minho interrupted.
“Come on, Ahmi. Don’t you want to have a little fun? It’s the beginning of the semester! You barely have any schoolwork.”
“I guess,” Ahmi mumbled, feeling a bit anxious about the whole idea of going to a party and not knowing how to act or what to do. “But I don’t know how to party!”
“Like Minho said, we’ll teach you!”
“Maybe we can even get you laid,” Minho huffs. “Then you’ll leave us alone.”
“I'm surprised you and Hyune haven't done it,” Itsumi said. “I mean, wasn't he your first kiss?”
“Cheeks don’t count, besides I think he’s gay.”
“That man is definitely not gay,” Minho snorts.
“Minho!” Itsumi scolds, hitting his head. He let out a dramatic howl.
“ What?! ” Minho huffed, rubbing his head. “I'm just being honest. Ahmi, honey, you just need to step up your game a bit.”
Ahmi rolled her eyes. “Oh, really? How so?”
“Well, for starters,” Minho said before taking another bite of food, and Ahmi rolled his eyes as he began to talk with his mouth full. “You need to stop being so timid. When you do go out you’re always stumbling around, hiding in the corner, shoving your face in your phone… and you barely talk to anyone.”
“Yeah, it’s called social anxiety!”
“Whatever. Stop being so boring. Talk to someone. Anyone.”
Itsumi nodded in agreement. “And you dress so conservatively all the time. You need to show a little more skin, Ahmi. Less sweatpants, more skirts! Or at least nice pants!”
“But I don’t want to have my ass out…” Ahmi whined. “What if people stare!”
“That’s the point,” Minho said, shaking his head. “Just show a little more skin. It’s not like you’re unattractive. The sweats look messy and hide how cute you are.”
“Yeah, you’re actually pretty cute!” Itsumi added with a smile.
Ahmi felt her cheeks grow warm, but she did feel a bit more confident. “Thanks guys…” she said shyly, not so used to this kind of attention. “What if they’re pink sweats…”
Minho groaned in frustration and Itsumi cleared her throat. “You just need to loosen up with a few drinks. There’s a party tonight. Tell us you’re coming.”
“So soon?” Ahmi asked with wide eyes, and Itsumi rolled her own. “It’s only the first Friday of the semester!
“Come on, Ahmi. We’ll start getting ready around 8 and we’ll get you all pretty for the boys there, yeah?” Itsumi asked eagerly.
“But I don’t do any of that! Dancing and flirting with guys…”
“Well it’s time you start! I’m coming into your room and we're getting ready, dammit! Time to change your sophomore year!”
“Okay… fine…” Ahmi surrendered, waving her hands like a white flag. “Whatever you guys want if you’ll leave me alone after.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hwang Hyunjin was a breath of fresh air that came seemingly out of nowhere on a hot summer day. He was caring and kind, and his eyes were soft enough to make any person’s walls crumble in seconds. He was Ahmi's weakness. He was the one who she clung to desperately.
Ahmi would often hold onto him, burrowing her face in his neck and wonder how a man could feel so warm… so soft. He felt like home, like a roof over her head that no tornado or earthquake could take away from her and her dreams. And in a way, he was her home, them being best friends since they were young.
She had always felt this warmth since when they first met in kindergarten. The second both of them looked at each other, Ahmi knew that Hyunjin’s gentle eyes, and sweet voice would get her through anything. So here they were in Uni.
Hyunjin sat across from her, the condensation from his iced americano soaked the napkin beneath it. Ahmi didn't have to say a word for Hyunjin to look at her intently, waiting for her to rattle off her worries so he could smother them to nothing.
“Classes don't seem too bad this semester…” Ahmi hummed, flipping through her agenda.
Hyunjin felt a wave of disappointment. It was always nice to take care of Ahmi's worries for her. It was as if making her feel better, listening to her worries, reassuring her, was the thing that gave him all the mana he needed. It gave him a sense of belonging; a purpose.
“You don't have any complaints?”
Ahmi laughed softly, taking a sip of her latte. “Don't sound too excited. I'm sure things will change by next week.”
“Maybe this will finally be your year,” he suggested. Ahmi shrugged, leaning back in her chair. At this point she was used to being the universe's punching bag. There wasn't anything that university could throw at her to make it sting more than it had the year before.
When things got to their absolute worst, Ahmi would keep herself busy. Keep herself numb. As far as she could tell, things couldn't get much worse.
“Hardly.”
“I'm trying to be optimistic,” he laughed.
Ahmi couldn't help but smile a bit. It was that fAhmiliar, soft but unusual laugh that warmed her insides and kept her coming back for more all these years.
“Minho and Itsumi are annoying the hell out of me. They want me to go to some party tonight… at Sigma Kappa Zeta?” Ahmi scoffed, taking a sip of her own iced coffee.
Hyunjin nodded. “That’s the frat that Minho is in. Makes sense. You don’t seem like you want to go.”
“Of course I don’t want to go! You know me. I’m a sit at home and mind my own business kind of girl,” Ahmi said. “But… They said I need to put myself out there. Do you agree…?”
“It wouldn’t hurt,” he shrugged. “But it’s your choice.”
“Maybe I should go. Just to say I’ve been at one,” she thinks aloud. “But you have to go with me.”
“Me?” he asked, his eyes widening.
“Yeah, I need a social crutch…”
“Oh, Itsumi isn’t enough?” Hyunjin laughed, his eyes closing into creasents as he threw his head back slightly. “Alright, only because that sounds hilarious.”
“Great. I think the party is a 10. Sumi is driving.”
“I’ll meet you at your apartment,” he nods.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Itsumi bounced on Ahmi’s bed, a mad smile on her face as she held up a little black dress with a lingerie set to match. “Viola!”
“I’m not wearing that!” Ahmi cried in horror.
“Yes you are! Unless you want to die an overworked virgin!”
Ahmi looked at the dress again and hesitated. “Don’t you think it’s a bit… much?”
Itsumi laughed. “What do you mean, much? It’s a simple black dress.”
“I’ve never worn something so tight…”
“It’s a party, Ahmi. You want to look like the rest of the girls right? You don’t like standing out?”
“I… guess…” she said before hesitantly accepting the dress and turning to put it on. “Never thought to look at it that way.”
“It’s called the art of manipulation, darling,” Itsumi purred, pulling a laugh from Ahmi’s mouth.
She pulled down the skirt once she got it on, and looked at herself in the mirror. It was tight, and hugged every curve and insecurity that she could think of, but her doubts immediately evaporated as Itsumi squealed behind her.
“Yes, girl! You look hot!”
Ahmi blushed. “Thanks, Sumi…”
“Now come here and let me turn you into a fashion model,” she smiled, pulling out her makeup bag.
“Please don’t make me look like a clown… or a brats doll!”
“Oh, please! Do you have no faith in me at all?” Itsumi pouted.
Ahmi offered a weary look. “I have a very different skin tone than you…”
Itsumi waved her hand. “Yeah, yeah… whatever. I’ll use your foundation after the eyes.”
Itsumi grabbed her phone, turning on some music before starting to work on Ahmi’s face. Once Itsumi was done drawing in her eyebrows, and applying a nude lip and a pretty eyeliner wing, she stood back to admire her work.
“I am good!” she nodded, holding up a mirror for Ahmi to see.
“Wow…” Ahmi said, admiring herself. “I do look hot!”
“See! I told you,” Itsumi smiled, glancing at the time on her phone. “We should leave soon… it’s already 10. Min will be wondering where we are!”
Just as Itsumi said that, there was a knock on Ahmi’s apartment door. A second later, Hyunjin was seeing himself in.
“You guys didn’t leave yet, right?” he called out, and Ahmi stepped out of her room to meet him as Itsumi chose a pair of shoes.
“Nope, we were just about to,” Ahmi said.
Hyunjin nodded, eyes glued to his phone. He finished sending a text before looking up, and when he caught sight of Ahmi, he nearly dropped his phone.
“What?” Ahmi said, eyebrows furrowed as she glared.
“Ahmi… you look hot!”
“I do?” Ahmi blinked. Never, in the twelve years they’ve been friends, has Hyunjin ever called her hot.
“Yeah! You look amazing! Is this a new dress?”
Ahmi blushed, nodding. “It’s Itsumi’s…” she said, taking a little twirl in it.
“It suits you,” Hyunjin complimented, still staring at her.
“How about these shoes?” Itsumi asked, barging out of the room with a pair of black converse. “Oh… Hi… Hyunjin.”
“Hey, Sumi,” he said passively, eyes still on Ahmi’s figure. When he glanced up at her eyes, she was staring right back at him.
“Anyway. Put these on, and let's go!”
Ahmi forced herself to look away from his eyes. “Sneakers?” Ahmi asked.
“Have you ever been to a frat party? The floors aren’t the nicest. Now let’s go!”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Later in the night, Ahmi found herself standing outside the frat house door, Hyunjin’s arm thrown over her shoulder. Ahmi tried to psych herself up for the party. She could hear the music and the sound of people laughing and cheering, and she felt a mix of excitement and nerves.
She walked inside and was immediately hit with the smell of beer and sweat. The room was packed with people dancing, drinking, and socializing. Ahmi felt a bit overwhelmed, but then she felt Hyunjin squeeze her shoulder, as she spotted Minho waving at her from across the room.
"Ahmi! You made it!" he shouted over the music. “I thought you were going to pussy out like usual.”
“I don’t pussy out,” Ahmi argued with a pout, but smiled when she saw the Frat’s president, Chris Bang. She has met him at a few organized events on campus that she has been dragged to- “to socialize” Itsumi would insist. Chan has always been one of the easiest people to talk to despite his nickname: Sir Bangs-a-lot. It was childish, but unfortunately stuck in the frat.
“It’s always nice to see you, Ahmi,” he smiled, handing Ahmi a solo cup of punch. “Usually, I don’t see you at these things.”
“Thanks,” she smiled, taking the cup and beginning to drink the fruity liquid. “Sumi dragged me. It’s already going strong- the party.”
“I’m gonna go grab a beer,” Hyunjin yelled over the music, and Ahmi nodded turning back to Chan.
“This is my empire,” he bragged. “It is almost eleven. The party hasn’t even started,” he chuckled, grabbing himself another cup of beer. He checked her out, admiring her dress. “You look great by the way. Since you finally made it to one of these, I want to introduce you to some people.”
“Sure,” Ahmi nodded, though she was feeling rather nervous. She had already known Seungmin Kim who was an Accounting and Finance major, but Chris insisted on introducing her to some new members.
“This is Jeno and Jaemin. They’re basically inseparable,” Chris chuckled, and Ahmi waved hi.
Then we have Felix. You know Felix, don’t you?” Chris asked while Felix set up the flip cup table.
“We’ve met,” Ahmi nodded. “He’s friends with Karina.”
“More than friends I’d say,” Chan snorted, taking another sip of his drink.
“Hey, I’m going to go find Hyunjin,” Ahmi said, excusing herself.
“Oh, he’s going to rush this semester right?” Chris asked. “We could always use new members.”
“I mean, you’ll have to convince him, not me. Parties aren’t usually his thing though. I’m surprised today,” she laughed, looking around for him.
“You better talk him into it,” Chan laughed, and Ahmi nodded, walking off.
“Sumi,” Ahmi hummed, sneaking up beside her best friend.
“Hey! Party girl,” Minho laughed, throwing his arm around her shoulders. “Ever play strip poker?”
“No way!” Ahmi laughs.
“He’s joking,” Itsumi clarified with a giggle. “What’s up?”
“Have you seen Hyunjin anywhere?”
“Nope. He’s probably off with Felix somewhere.”
“Oh, alright. I’ll look for him-”
Itusmi wrapped her arm around her friend's waist. “Ahmi come on. Just relax. Let’s dance!”
“Sumi, have you been drinking?” Ahmi asked.
“No! I’m just having fun. Like you should be. Come on, Ahmi…” her best friend whined, putting her hands up and dancing to the music. Ahmi laughed at her doing the same and letting loose. The alcohol definitely helped.
As the night went on, the party grew more and more wild. Ahmi watched as people climbed on top of tables and started doing keg stands, and she couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. As long as they were the center of attention and she wasn’t, she was content.
At one point, Chris leaned in close to her and whispered, "Hey, Ahmi, I think someone drugged the punch."
Ahmi's eyes widened in shock. "What? Are you serious?"
"Nah, I'm just messing with you. Relax, have some fun." Chris grinned. “You look so tense. Have you even drank anything?”
“I’ve had a little…” she smiled shyly.
“Come on. We’re going to do a shot!” Chan said, pulling her.
“What?!” she shrieked in surprise, allowing Chan to drag her.
“You can’t be sober at a frat party!” he scolded. “Jello or Vodka.”
“J-Jello…?” Ahmi answered cluelessly. Surely Jello had to be less alcoholic… right?
Chan gave Ahmi an amused grin, handing it to her. “You gotta finger it.”
“I have to do what?” Ahmi screamed over the music, squinting her eyes.
“Finger it! Like this:” Chan said, sticking his finger in the Jello, loosening the gel, and sucking the Jello into his mouth. “It’s more fun if you do it with your tongue though.”
“Uh…” Ahmi stared at the Jello shot, popping the lid off. “Okay… finger it…?” she mumbled to herself.
“Huh?” Chan yelled.
“Ready?” Ahmi yelled back.
“Yeah! No finger. Only tongue!”
Ahmi laughed nervously before nodding, and she knocked her plastic cup to Chan’s before sticking her tongue in the Jello, rotating the cup, and sucking the Jello in.
“Hey! That- was pretty good!” Chan encouraged.
“Are we doing Jello shots?!” Minho asked, seemingly materializing out of nowhere, making Ahmi jolt slightly.
“Yeah! Want one?” Chan said, grabbing three from the table. “No finger.”
“No finger!” Minho cheered, raising up the Jello.
Ahmi nervously followed before consuming another one, suddenly starting to feel dizzy. Minho grabbed her arm to keep her from falling before leading her back to dance. “Come on, Ahmi!”
Dodging through a few people shotgunning their beers, or dancing wildly Ahmi’s eyes eventually found Hyunjin, over by the flip cup table. “I wanna go this way!” she complained, and Minho lost grip of her. She made her way over to him, making herself evident.
“There you are, Mimi!” Hyunjin said, throwing his arm around her shoulder. “Want me to teach you how to play?”
Ahmi looked around. Chris and a few other faces were playing. It seemed fun enough, and Ahmi nodded. “Alright, I'll try.”
“Great,” Hyunjin laughed. “We go down the line. When the person before you chugs their cup and then flips their cup correctly-” Hyunjin flipped his red solo cup with ease at just the flick of a finger, “you do the same.”
“I think I've got it,” Ahmi agreed, warming up her fingers. “When did you learn this anyway?”
“Eh, some party last year. Ready?”
“I thought you didn’t go to parties?” she asked. Before Hyunjin could give a response, the game was starting and Hyunjin rushed to chug his drink before cleanly flipping his cup. Ahmi panicked, the beer in the cup spilling on her chest as she choked, but she took another gulp, this one clean and set the cup on the table. It was slightly dizzy, the additional alcohol making her a bit unsteady, but thankfully it only took a couple tries to flip the cup.
The game went on for a while, and Ahmi found herself rather talented at the game. She was surprised, but it felt great winning most of the rounds, and she felt a sense of accomplishment when everyone would cheer for her.
Hyunjin didn’t leave her side the entire time, cheering her on and offering her encouragement when she began to doubt herself. They were having a blast together, and Ahmi's heart started feeling rather warm for her best friend, warmer than she usually let herself admit.
After a few extra drinks, Ahmi finally began to lose her self control. Hyunjin had moved to take away her drink and secretly replace it with water, but Chris and Minho were too focused on making sure she had fun.
Hyunjin sighed, reaching for the cup in her hand. “Okay, Ahmi, maybe that’s enough punch-”
“Hyune, stop!” Ahmi whined, yanking the cup back from his grip, the liquid sploshing out of the cup and onto the poor bypasser.
“Shit!” the boy said, more out of shock than anything else.
“Oh, fuck… I’m sorry,” Ahmi said, moving to try and rub out the liquid from the guy's t-shirt, unable to think of anything else to do.
He laughed, grabbing her wrist. “It’s okay,” he said. “I think that may actually be making it worse.” Ahmi finally looked up to see his face, and his lips were curled up in a gummy smile as he laughed, seemingly amused. Ahmi watched as his eyes sparkled with happiness.
“I got you all sticky,” Ahmi mumbled, and the guy only seemed to laugh harder.
“That’s why you don’t wear nice things to a frat party.”
“Okay, we should go home,” Hyunjin said, tired of watching the scene play out.
“Boo…” Ahmi whined, pushing back against Hyunjin, but her best friend was taller and stronger.
“Come on, Ahmi…” he said, pulling her, and Ahmi frowned, waving goodbye at the pretty stranger.
“Itsumi, Ahmi is making a mess,” he tattled like a little boy, and Ahmi whined.
“I don’t want to go home…” Ahmi huffed, shoving the boy.
“Okay, let me get my keys from Minho,” Itsumi nodded. Though she was glad that Ahmi was letting loose, maybe the boys had taken it too far.
Ahmi reached to grab her best friend’s sleeve. “Sumi…” she whined.
“It’s time to go home, cutie,” Itsumi said, squishing her cheeks.
“Okay…”
Itsumi laughed at her, noticing Hyunjin’s protective grip on her. “I'll be right back. Just have to find Minho.”
Ahmi whined at Hyunjin’s grip. “You're hurting me,” she said, pulling at his wrist.
“Come on, Ahmi. I know you're going to run off if I take my hand off of you for one second,” Hyunjin said.
Ahmi continued to pout before wrapping her arms around Hyunjin, hugging him. “I'm kind of tired…”
He nodded, a small fond smile growing at her cuddly state. “I know. That's why we're going home, Mimi.”
“Hyune,” Ahmi pout, looking up at him with big eyes. “Kiss me?”
Hyunjin stiffened, his smile fading to nothing. Instead, Hyunjin looked shocked, almost confused, looking down at Ahmi before gently pushing her away. “Ahmi, you're really drunk right now.”
“No, m’ not,” she whined, her arms looping around his neck. “I really want to kiss you.”
“Ahmi. You’re really drunk right now, and I don’t think you know what you’re saying-”
“Shush…” Ahmi cut him off. “Listen. I have to tell you something. I-”
“I've got the keys!” Itsumi said, holding the keychain up in the air. Ahmi looked at Itsumi, almost betrayed, a whine leaving her lips. “Why are we waiting?” Itsumi asked. “Let's go.”
Ahmi held onto Hyunjin tight, but he managed to get Ahmi outside and into Itsumi's car. Itsumi could feel the tension in the air, and as she watched Ahmi doze off she looked at Hyunjin in the passenger's seat.
“What happened?” Itsumi asked.
“Nothing happened.”
“You seem in a pissy mood. Didn't you drink too? Shouldn't you be happy-go-lucky right now?”
Hyunjin glared over. “I had to keep an eye on Ahmi since your happy-go-lucky boyfriend was getting her drunk.”
“It was a party, Hyunjin,” Itsumi laughed, “Why are you being so uptight?”
Hyunjin’s eyes grew wide. “I'm not uptight! I'm just looking out for her. It’s my job. Ahmi and I are best friends.”
“Just best friends who are overbearing. Don't think I didn't notice you dragging her away from Han Jisung,” Itsumi pointed out.
“She was feeling him all up, and he isn’t good for her. I could tell.”
“He seemed to be amused-”
“Oh, fine. Whatever! I don't have to explain myself to you.” Hyunjin crossed her arms, looking out the window.
“Why do you have to be so childish,” Sumi tisked, pulling over in front of his apartment unit. “Ahmi has spent her whole life without barely even being kissed. I wonder why… maybe because her best friend acts like her father?”
“You have Ahmi handled?” Hyunjin asks, ignoring Itsumi’s accusations.
“I've got it,” she assured, waving the boy off. “Get going.”
“Okay… I'll see you Monday,” Hyunjin said and Itsumi nodded.
“See you Monday.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In their usual corner of the cafe, Itsumi and Minho sat across from each other. Minho knew the look in Itsumi’s eyes. She had a plan and she was about to get Minho involved.
“What did you want to talk about?”
“I have a plan!” Itsumi smiled deviously. “A plan for Ahmi.”
Minho raised his eyebrows. “A prank?”
Itsumi rolled her eyes. “You’re insufferable. No! We are going to get Ahmi a boyfriend. We need a foolproof plan to help Ahmi find her Prince Charming.”
“Oh…” Minho said, seemingly no longer interested. “I thought she said she’s busy and all that…”
“I was driving her and Hyunjin home last night and I had this moment of realization: Ahmi has never had a boyfriend because of Hyunjin.”
“Seems like an Ahmi problem,” Minho said, his hand moving under Itsumi’s skirt, and she slapped his hand.
“We’re in public,” she pouted. “Besides. I need your help with this.”
“My help?” Minho pouted.
“Yeah! Last night she started talking to Han before Hyunjin totally dragged her away. Didn’t you say he just broke up with his girlfriend before summer break?”
“Yeah? But Chaewon is still obsessed with him, and I think he’s just wanting to play around. Do you think Ahmi would be able to handle being played around with?”
Itsumi pouted. “No…”
“Look, as much as I rarely admit, I care about Ahmi. I don't want her to get hurt. Any attention is going to be like crack to her little virgin brain. She'd be dead by tomorrow if Jisung got involved.”
“Jisung is nice.”
“Jisung is a horny frat boy.”
Itsumi rolled her eyes. “Well what then??”
“Okay, okay, babe…” Minho said, raising his hands in surrender. “Let’s take a step back and think this through so we don’t hurt Ahmi.”
Itsumi sulked in chair, pouting. “You’re right…”
“So not Han. What are our other options?”
“There is no way that Ahmi is going to willingly go on a blind date. We’re going to have to make it seem genuine.”
“Should we pay someone?”
“Minho!” Itsumi scolds. “That would break her heart even more if she ever found out.”
“If who ever found out?” Ahmi said, sitting down at the table.
Minho and Itsumi exchanged a quick glance, caught off guard by Ahmi's sudden appearance at their table. Itsumi's heart raced, but she managed to put on a casual smile. "Hey, Ahmi! We were just... uh, discussing some random stuff."
Ahmi raised an eyebrow, a suspicious look on her face. "Random stuff? You two looked pretty intense. And why did my name come up?"
Minho cleared his throat, his attempt at nonchalance coming off slightly awkward. "Well, you know, we were just thinking about how you've been so focused on your studies lately, and we thought you might need a little break."
“... The semester just started,” Ahmi said, raising her brow.
“And you’re already working so hard!” Itsumi insisted. “How was your day?”
Ahmi sighed, running a hand through her hair. "Busy, as always. But I managed to catch a break, so I thought I'd join you two for a little coffee break."
Minho glanced at Itsumi, silently conveying a question about whether they should mention their ongoing discussion. Itsumi responded with a subtle shake of her head, indicating they should wait until Ahmi was more relaxed.
"Sounds good," Itsumi said with a smile. "You deserve a break."
“Me and Hyune are having a movie tonight at his apartment so that will let me relax even more,” Ahmi said softly, taking a bite of the coffee cake she ordered.
“Yeah, relax,” Minho said, making a motion before Itsumi was gasping, pushing his hands away.
“You know it isn’t like that,” Ahmi complained. “Me and Hyunjin are just…”
“Friends?” Minho scoffed.
"Me and Hyunjin are just really close friends," Ahmi complained, her frustration evident in her tone. She leaned back in her chair, arms crossed defensively.
Itsumi and Minho exchanged a knowing glance, both suppressing amused smiles. It wasn't the first time Ahmi had downplayed her relationship with Hyunjin, and they knew better than to take her words at face value.
Something about Ahmi’s attitude made Itsumi’s smile fade though. Something was going on… She would have to wait and see.
“What were you two even talking about last night? He seemed kind of grumpy.”
“I can’t even remember. I think I split something on this really hot guy… or maybe that was a dream? That’s the last thing I remember.”
“Huh,” Itsumi said. “Wonder what happened. Oh well, you guys have fun.”
“Hopefully…” Ahmi pouted, she had a feeling she forgot something important, and she was scared it might come up tonight…
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The soft glow of Hyunjin’s small apartment TV lit up Ahmi’s face as she sat snuggled up on the couch. It was time for her and Hyunjin’s cherished movie night, but Ahmi couldn’t help but feel sick about tonight especially. Though the other night was rather fuzzy, Ahmi was sure that she would make everything clear tonight. The unknown of what exactly had happened the night before gnawed at her bones, but she toned it out.
“Hey, Ahmi!” Hyunjin said, walking through the door and holding up grocery bags. “I’m back! I brought snacks!”
“Aw, Hyunjin, I just made Popcorn,” Ahmi pouted, standing up from the couch as walking into the kitchen, her bare feel patting on the cold lAhminate floor.
Ahmi couldn’t deny the tension as Hyunjin looked up, his eyes making contact with hers. She wore short PJ shorts, and an oversized hoodie from the mens section. Hyunjin could smell her soft coconut shampoo from where he was standing as she pushed up her sleeves.
“You brought my favorite chips!” Ahmi cheered cutely, tearing open the package of cheddar and sour cream crisps.
“Mac and Cheese too,” he smiled gently.
“Yes! I’ll get the water boiling,” Ahmi said, bending over to grab a pot from the cabinet.
Hyunjin turned to lean back against the counter. “So what are we watching tonight?”
“I was going to let you choose, you know, since I made you watch a barbie movie last time,” Ahmi giggled.
“It was a good movie! I liked how sassy the love interest was. That polar bear was annoying as fuck though.”
Ahmi laughed harder, as she placed the pot of water on the stovetop. “Yeah, Shiver was pretty annoying.”
“Hmm, why don’t we watch- like… an action movie? Tokyo Drift?” he asked.
“I think it just got put on Netflix,” she nodded.
The two continued to make small talk as the noodles boiled, and before they knew it they were finishing up eating as they sat on the couch watching their movie, watching with anticipation, for Ahmi: a completely different reason.
She gradually lost focus of the movie before she couldn’t keep up at all. Hyunjin watched closely as Ahmi reached for the remote. She pressed pause causing Hyunjin to gasp.
“Ahmi, what the hell! This is the good part!” he whined before turning and seeing her worried face. “... Are you okay?”
“I need to ask you something,” Ahmi said, a serious tone in her voice. “I mean it. Something really important.”
Hyunjin stiffened, his memories from the day before worrying him. “Ahmi, I really think you should be resting right now. Just relax. It’s the weekend.”
Ahmi shook her head, trying to get her thoughts in order. “No, I have to get this off my chest, Hyune. It’s been bothering me for a while now.”
Please be something else. Please-
“I feel like I’m forgetting something last night… did I do something to upset you?” Ahmi asked cluelessly.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Hyunjin denied, reaching for the remote. “Now play the movie.”
“No, seriously, Hyunjin. Did we… did we kiss?” Ahmi asked urgently. “Did I kiss someone else?”
“No! No, we didn’t kiss!” Hyunjin denied immediately. “What the fuck , Ahmi.”
“I don’t know…” she mumbled, shrinking into herself. “It felt something like that…”
“We definitely didn’t kiss. You were way too drunk anyway,” Hyunjin scoffed, suddenly defensive. “It would have been weird for you to be kissing anyone.”
Ahmi shook her head. “Wait a second… it would be weird if I kissed someone? What is that supposed to mean?”
“Oh come on, Ahmi. I don’t mean it like that. You know what I mean, alcohol takes away consent and all that jazz,” he excused. “Can we get back to the movie now?”
“You think it’s that absurd for me to be kissed? Really ?” Ahmi snapped. “Yeah, I’m so awf-”
“Don’t you dare put words into my mouth, Ahmi,” Hyunjin said, beginning to grow irritated. “I never said that!”
“No, but yet I’ve never been kissed, so obviously there is something wrong.”
“Maybe it's because you never leave my apartment. Ever thought of that?!” Hyunjin snapped. “You never even meet anyone to be kissed… ever! Jeez even I can’t go to parties with you around.”
Ahmi gasped, her mouth falling open. She looked at Hyunjin betrayed. Where did this sudden resentment come from? They were friends… of course they would hang out. “You know, you could always say no, but yet you always accept. Whatever, go to all the parties you want,” she grumbled, getting off the couch.
“Where are you going?” Hyunjin asked, turning to watch her scamper to the door.
“Home! So you can go to your stupid fucking parties!” Ahmi snapped before slamming the door behind her. As she stormed down the hall, she heard Hyunjin’s door open.
“Ahmi! Seriously? Don’t be dramatic!” he argued, yelling after her.
Ahmi felt her lip quiver at his harsh tone. Ahmi couldn’t stand the thought of him hanging out with her out of pity… or obligation. If he didn’t want to be around her then she would just be alone! Like always… and if he really cared, he’d be running after her, but instead she made her way down the stairwell alone, and just like that, she was more lonely than ever.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ahmi’s cheeks were stained with tears as she shoved her keys in the door handle and turned the knob. When she walked in, she could barely see Itsumi and Minho making out on the couch through her tear-filled eyes. But it finally processed in her brain what they had been getting up to when Itsumi shot up, alarmed, to see who was at the door.
“You guys are fucking nasty!” Ahmi cried, yet not able to see anything through the tears. The worst part of her best friend getting fucked on the couch was the fact that she just got basically rejected by her best friend. “I’m gonna die a virgin,” she sobbed, running off to her room.
Itsumi gave Minho a look that only caused him to tighten his grip. “Can’t she wait?!”
“No!” Itsumi snapped. “You don’t even have your pants down yet!” she scolded, pushing herself off Minho and rushing to Ahmi’s bedroom. Itsumi knocked at Ahmi’s door gently. “Mimi?”
“You guys are deep cleaning the couch!’ Ahmi cried from inside the room. Itsumi rolled her eyes, pushing into the room.
“You’ve sat on the couch without it being deep cleaned,” Itsumi teased, and Ahmi whined.
“Ew!” she cried with a tear stained face as Itsumi adjusted Ahmi’s bedsheets.
“Besides, we were just kissing…So, are you going to tell me what happened, cutie?” Itsumi said, laying down beside Ahmi.
“I asked Hyunjin,” I sniffled. “I messed up last night. I told him I felt like something happened that I couldn’t remember. I was drunk and wasn't thinking, b-but when I asked him-” Ahmi sobbed, gripping Itsumi tightly, “He said it was ridiculous that I would kiss anyone!”
Itsumi rubbed Ahmi’s back gently, trying to soothe her. “Oh Ahmi…”
“I told him that I was insecure about that kind of stuff, and he said ‘I never leave his apartment’ and that ‘he can’t go to parties because I’m always there’! What kind of fucking bullshit is that?! He’s the one that invites me over!” Ahmi wailed. Itsumi nodded, listening attentively.
“I’m so sorry, Ahmi,” she said, squeezing her friend in a tight hug. “It must have just broken your heart. I’m sure he does like having you around.”
“Y-yeah… it did. It was…” Ahmi let out a shaky breath. “I just didn’t even know he wanted to go to parties! And he made it seem like I wasn’t even wanted, you know?”
Itsumi nodded. “I know. He’s such an ass for leading you on. Especially last night! The way he was looking at you the whole time was totally leading you on! He even told you how sexy you looked and then rejected you! How dare he!”
“H-he was leading me on?” Ahmi hiccuped.
“Yes! Oh yes he was Ahmi,” Itsumi cooed, “Calling you hot and dragging you away from all those cute boys? No wonder you're always with him. He hogs you!”
“Want me to strangle him for you?” Minho asked from the doorway, standing in boxers and a hoodie.
“Now is not the time, Min!” Itsumi snapped, and Minho raised his hands up in surrender, walking farther into the room.
“All I’m saying is he took up what? Fourteen years of your life, chasing off boys and any eligible dates just to end up acting like he doesn’t want you around? He’s an ass.”
Itsumi nodded. “He did pull you away from that guy last night. I thought maybe he was going to work up a confession, but I guess to him he wasn’t really interested in that. He is an ass!”
“You guys are just saying that,” Ahmi mumbled from under the sheets.
Itsumi nudged her. “Hey, if I was gay, you’d be just my type, Ahmi. You’re adorable!”
“What does it matter if hyunjin doesn’t like me? I can’t even look back on our friendship without regret!”
Minho raised his brows before nodding to Itsumi. He would think of something to cheer the younger girl up. Itsumi watched his leave before turning to Ahmi, pulling up the sheets. “Come on, cutie. We can watch a movie. Something cute like Ponyo?”
“I am not sitting on that couch,” Ahmi pouted, making a face.
“I told you we were just kissing!…” Itsumi laughed. “Come on cutie… you can sit on the chair.”
Ahmi nodded, relaxing only a bit.
“Should we drink? I have some Soju in the fridge!” Itsumi said enthusiastically.
“No…” Ahmi sniffled, “I make big mistakes when I’m drunk…”
“Hey,” Minho said, reappearing and knocking on the door. “I’m going out to the house. Let me know if you guys need anything.”
Itsumi nodded, getting up and pecking his lips. “Thank you. Have fun!”

SERIES MASTERLIST
Class was dismissed, which meant it was finally time for you to drag Changbin to the small ramen place you discovered the previous week. He was as much a foodie as you were, which justified perfectly why the both of you got along so well. Apart from your usual mean (but friendly) comments, you would rarely have arguments with the man.
Arriving to your locker, your roommate, Hwayoung, was crying her eyes out. Well, more like her eyes were puffy red and she sniffled loudly. Anyway, she was crying. This only meant one thing : another failed attempt at dating. She had always had the need of being in a relationship, so she tried every dating app that could exist. Her poor best friend, Jisung, had to watch all of this while crushing massively on the girl. You felt bad for the both of them. Meanwhile, Changbin pointed out her sadness with a joke.
"Your eyes are red, did you get high or something?" he laughed which earned him a small punch in his stomach from you.
Hwayoung's eyes got filled with more tears as Jisung rubbed her back in comfort. "I know I don't have much success with dating, but did this jerk have to tell me in my face that I'm an annoying piece of shit?"
Jisung winced at the sight and brought her into his arms. The first time you met the pair, you were convinced they were romantically involved since they would always be touching each other in some way. Plus, it was almost as it they never left the other's side. To say the least, you were practically shocked to learn they were only friends.
Changbin scoffed cockily from the words Hwayoung spilled. "There are plenty of other guys in this school. Even myself could take you on a proper date and treat you with actual respect."
Jisung sent a glare to his older friend, unsure on why he would be suggesting such a thing while being well aware of his feelings for the girl. "Right." he muttered under his breath.
You felt bad for the guy and, most importantly, wanted to beat Changbin's ass for making such an inappropriate comment. "As if you could date." you laughed.
"Might I remind you that I used to be very popular in high school." he said proudly.
"Used to be." you pointed out. "I haven't seen you go out even once with someone since I met you."
"I swear I'm a gentleman."
"Dude, you insult people 90% of the time."
"It's different, I don't intend on dating y'all."
Somehow, this grandly affected you. "I'm as much dateable as you are. Probably more."
Jisung let out a groan, unimpressed by your useless argument. "Guys, we have more important issues, here." he cocked his head towards the girl in his arms.
"Right." you coughed. "Sorry, Hwayoung."
"Not, it's fine. You two are much more dateable than I am, that's for sure." she whimpered.
Not knowing what to do, you threw a panicked glance at Jisung. "What do we do?" you mouthed.
"I got this." he mouthed back as he rolled his eyes. "Hey." he made the girl look at him. "How about we have a movie night together? It'll help you, I think."
Hwayoung hesitated as her eyes shifted towards you. "I don't know. Y/N and I had plans."
You shook your head vigorously. "Go with Jisung. We'll do our girls night another time."
She thanked you, grateful, and headed out, still in Jisung's arms. The boy mouthed a "thanks" as he lead his friend outside the school.
"So? That ramen place?" Changbin breathed out, turning to face you.
With a grin, you closed your locker and dragged him to the small store near campus. You had gone once with Hwayoung and you were dying to bring someone else to eat there with you, only to give yourself an excuse to spend on unhealthy food.
When reading the menu, Changbin frowned as he checked the ingredients. "Do you want me to ruin my efforts with my work out?" he pointed to the amount of calories.
"Stop being a baby." you rolled your eyes. "It has more protein than grease, I swear."
Still unconvinced, he ended up ordering the beef ramen anyway, while you ordered the spicy chicken. Waiting patiently for the food to come, you showed Changbin some pictures you had taken that week of your mutual friends. Felix was looking oddly disturbed in one, so you turned it into a meme and Changbin was living for it.
The food eventually arrived and you wasted no time to dig in, slurping loudly as you ate the noodles. Changbin was pleasantly surprised at the taste and complimented your choice of restaurant. You both had never eaten that fast and it took you no time to finish your meals. You insisted on paying since you were the one to invite him, but he was not going to let you get away that easy.
"What kind of gentleman am I if I don't pay?" he scoffed, pulling out his wallet.
"Ah, right. Because you are a total gentleman." you rolled your eyes. "You're the damsel here, let me pay."
He glared at you but you happily went to the counter and paid. You headed out to go back home with a pissed Changbin who was pouting like a child.
"Quit being a baby." you nudged his arm and he only sent you another glare in return. "Fine, you'll pay next time then?"
"No, it's not about that." he mumbled.
"What is it then? Is it because I called you a lady?" you laughed.
"It's because you really don't believe me when I say I can be a perfect gentleman. I swear I was such a catch in high school." he whined.
"Yeah, it's because you whine like this all the time that I don't believe you." you chuckled, gesturing to his childish behaviour.
"I swear I am."
"Uh, uh."
"I'm not bullshitting, Y/N."
"I need to see it to believe it."
"Then let me show you!" he exclaimed in frustration and you stopped walking to stare at him.
You perked an eyebrow, confused on whether you had heard him right or not. "Repeat, please?"
"Let me show you I can be a perfect date. I bet you could fall in love with me right after that."
You huffed in pure disbelief, but the look on his face remained serious. "Dude, you're not being serious."
"Never been more serious."
"Is this about your pride or something?"
He smirked. "Totally is about my pride."
You laughed as he kept a straight face. "I'm so ready to not give you that satisfaction. Alright, deal. Take me on a date and we'll see if you're really all that great."
Changbin grinned wickedly. Little did the both of you know this was probably the worst idea ever, but neither was ready to lose in front of the other.
A month or so had passed and neither of you brought the subject up again. It was like it never happened, and you were more than pleased to ignore it. Frankly, you didn't want to go on a date with Changbin. He was handsome, you would never deny that. However, you could not see him romantically ever. Thus, you doubted he would even succeed in making you like him.
Coming into the local store, you waved at Eunhee, the worker who was doing nothing other than watching a movie on her phone instead of working.
"You're alone today?" you asked while you searched for your favourite candies.
"Jeongin's on his break, he's in the backstore."
"I see." you nodded your head slowly before walking up to the beverages. "Did you guys receive any new drinks?"
Eunhee checked her inventory list real quick before shaking her head. "We have those nasty ass juices, though." she pointed at the bottles to your left.
"Ew, no thanks."
You picked your usual drinks and came to the cash to pay. "Are you almost done with your shift?" you asked while she typed something on the computer next to her.
"I finish in an hour." she groaned.
"Stop complaining, I do the night shift today." Jeongin said as he came from the back. "Hey, Y/N." he waved at you.
"Night shift? Rough." you commented. "We're having a little get-together just now."
"The beers are for the boys?"
"Yeah." you shrugged. "But mostly Changbin."
You finished paying and left the two workers to head back to Changbin's flat. He welcomed you with a big hug before helping you with your bags. Analyzing your surroundings, it felt nice to know the boys did clean once in a while. For the first time, you could actually see the colour of the floor.
"Did Chan force you to clean up?" you joked, putting the drinks in the fridge.
"No, I simply thought it wouldn't hurt to put our dirty clothes away." he shrugged. He opened one of the beer pack, and held one out to you. "Want one?"
"You're already drinking?"
"It's literally the first time I get to relax since the week started, let me live!"
Chan came out of his room and waved briefly at you as he still had his phone against his ear. He hurried the caller to hang up. Changbin snorted as he took a sip of his beer. He dropped on the couch, patting the spot next to him to invite you to join him, but you shook your head as a refusal.
"You're going to stand there all night?" he lifted an eyebrow at you.
"I'll take a seat eventually, jeez." you breathed out.
Chan finally ended the call, and sighed in relief. He took a beer for himself and sat next to Changbin, throwing his head back in exhaustion.
"You good, there?" you asked him.
"School things, nothing much." he said, drinking his beverage.
"Men." you snorted upon watching the pair drinking lazily, even though it was barely 6pm. "Are Ji and Hwa coming tonight?"
"Jisung confirmed, but I believe Hwayoung is going out with Junsoo." Chan answered.
The name sounded familiar. You searched through your mind where you had heard it before. Unsure, you opened your social medias to look the name up. The moment you clicked on a profile, your eyes grew bigger.
"This jerk?" you exclaimed, shoving the screen to their faces.
Changbin frowned. "Isn't this the guy who tried to get you in his pants at the party last year?"
"I'm amazed you even remember, Bin. You passed out on that night." you clapped your hands slowly, earning a glare.
"She's going out with this guy?" Chan huffed. "Should we tell Jisung?"
"He'll go crazy if we do so." you dismissed his suggestion. "I just hope she'll be fine by the end of her date."
Jisung and Minho were the next ones to arrive, followed by Sora not too long after. For the night, you settled on simply hanging out in the living room, put some music, and drink while chatting. Sora, getting more intoxicated as time passed, fell asleep on Chan's shoulder.
"Someone needs to watch her alcohol consumption." you laughed out as you took another sip of your own drink.
You repositioned yourself on your seat and stumbled by yourself, almost falling on Changbin. "Look who's speaking." he laughed as he caught you in time. "Should I get you back home? I know you work tomorrow morning." he asked softly, stroking the locks of your hair.
"You're no fun." you pouted and he raised an eyebrow at you. "Fine, I suppose you are right."
Your things were near where Jisung was sitting. He had not included himself much during the night, as he had his eyes fixated on his phone. As you approached him, you noticed he was in call as he said Hwayoung's name with a frown on his face.
"Hwayoung, baby, where are you? What did he do?" he stood up so suddenly.
You and Changbin stepped aside as he started to grab his belongings in a hurry. He then suddenly stopped what he was doing.
"Of course, we don't mind. Come right up and I'll make you some tea. Does it sound okay for you?" he asked, and you assumed Hwayoung answered on the other side of the line. "Come up quickly."
Changbin sent him a look, as the rest of you were doing. Jisung looked uncomfortable as he was now the center of attention.
"You can go in my room, if you want." Chan offered. "I'll sleep at Minho's instead."
"When did I agree with this?" Minho argued, until Chan glared at him.
"Thank you. Can I use your boiler to make her some tea?" Jisung replied, earning an approval from the older man.
As he was preparing the things for the girl, she knocked at the door and Jisung almost drowned her in a hug. You and Changbin took this opportunity to leave the place quietly, waving briefly at the others.
The weather was nice. There was a cool breeze, but not too cold for you to be freezing. Anyway, you were already hot as it is, still having alcohol in your system. Nonetheless, Changbin still brought you closer to him.
"I swear to God, Hwayoung needs to stop going out." you whined. "Why is she doing this to herself? To be fair, the boys here all suck." You turned to look at Changbin, not even a bit stunned by how close your face was to his. "Why do you suck?"
His gaze went down on your lips for a brief moment, but he shook it off with a cough. "I told you I'm a good candidate for dating."
You scoffed, sending the smell of liquor to his face. "You're still onto that date thing?"
"I was being serious. I'm convinced you'll see how I actually am a great guy."
"Bin, you're a good friend, but you're a man. And men are assholes."
He couldn't deny there was a lot of truth in what you were saying. He, himself, had seen his older sister struggle with that aspect and, frankly, he couldn't believe how they could be such jerks.
"I'm not like that."
You whistled in a teasing way. "Binnie having his quirky moment."
He deadpanned at you. "Shut up, you know what I meant."
"Fine." you finally agreed. "This time, for real, we're going on a date."
"Good with me." Changbin affirmed. "When do you want to do this?"
"Tomorrow?"
You surprised yourself with your boldness and he was even more shocked. You had already got to your dorm, so you waved him carelessly goodbye before heading inside, leaving him no time to argue. Your cheeks were flushed and you weren't so sure if it was because of the alcohol anymore. You still went ahead and took a long shower to freshen up.
When it was time to go to bed, you heard a notification sound coming from your phone multiple times. You didn't bother checking who was being so insistant, being too tired from your evening. Before you knew it, you were sound asleep.
Regret. You would say you never regretted anything in your life. You genuinely thought you could only learn from bad experiences and embrace them as part of your life. But now, you could only feel regret.
And that, ever since that morning, when you saw the messages Changbin had sent you. The same ones you had decided to ignore the previous night.
Changbin: Tomorrow? You do realize this gives me so little time to prepare an actual good date?
Changbin: Y/N, answer me!
Changbin: Did you fall asleep yet?
Changbin: Alright, tomorrow it is, then. I think I can manage to organize something.
Changbin: Do you like something simple or extravagant?
Changbin: Don't answer that.
Changbin: Well, I guess you are sleeping... I'll call you tomorrow, okay?
You were in panic, to say the least. You would been just fine if you two hadn't brought up the topic of the date again. But here you were. Why were you even being nervous about it? You should be feeling okay with it, you're the one who said he wouldn't be able to woo you, so you didn't understand why he was already having this effect on you without even doing anything yet.
"Stop biting your nails!" Hwayoung slapped your hand away from your face. "You keep getting distracted, are you okay?"
You deadpanned at her, not believing she was the one asking you if you were okay while she was crying her eyes out the previous night. "Am I okay? Hwa, you were literally crying a river yesterday, but you agreed to go on a date the next day. Are you good?"
"Minyoung seems nice." she shrugged.
"That's what you said for all the other guys, but sure." you mumbled under your breath. "Anyway, help me pick an outfit." She started to laugh uncontrollably, leaving you confused. "What did I say?"
"You want me to help you dress? We dress nothing alike, Y/N." she kept on giggling. "And might I remind you this is a date with Seo Changbin."
"It's still a date."
"Fine." she snorted. "What are you two going to do?"
"I don't know, I ignored his calls and left him on read since this morning."
She froze from your words. Out of all her friends, you were one to never be good with romance or anything of that sort. If anything, she considered you as a lost cause. This only confirmed her thoughts.
"You're so dumb, I swear." she sighed desperately before stealing your phone.
"Hwayoung!" you yelled out, trying to get your phone back.
She opened it easily since she knew your password and went ahead to look at your messages. "It's in an hour and forty five minutes at his parents' place." She frowned before looking up at you. "You've been to his house before?"
"Yeah, like once, but it was only because he had to get his mom's soup and I happened to be hanging out with him when she called."
"Uh." she nodded her head, deep in thoughts. "Alright, then I suggest you wear one of my skirts with that pretty shirt of yours that you wore last time we went to the bar together."
Before you could say anything, she threw your phone back at you and went to her closet, searching for a certain piece of clothing. She then shot at you her red plaid skirt, which earned a glare from you.
"What?" she exclaimed, defensive. "It's cute, and it matches with your top."
You grunted, throwing your head back. "Okay, I'll wear this. But I hate you."
"Stop lying, I'm literally saving your life right now."
You stuck out your tongue at her before leaving the room to get dressed. When you came back, Hwayoung squealed at the sight of you. She insisted on doing your makeup and hair, and you obliged. She wasn't giving you much of a choice anyway. Once satisfied with her work, she hurried you out of the dorm, almost like a mother who had prepped her daughter for her first day of school.
"Don't be home too late, or at least text me if you sleep over at his place." You glared at her for the hundredth time of the day. "And use protection!" she added.
"You're insufferable, even more than Bin."
"Have fun!" she ignored your comment before she closed the door.
Left alone in the hallway, you took a deep breath. You had no choice but to go now. You left the building as you checked the buses near you so you could get to Changbin's house as soon as possible.
While you were on the bus, he had called you again. You felt bad, but you really didn't want to talk to him just yet. Plus, it might ruin the element of surprise if you talked to him beforehand.
You got there sooner than you had anticipated. There was no car in the parking lot, meaning his parents must have left to leave the house available. You took all of your courage and walked to the door. After knocking, you waited for an answer. However, there was none. You tried again, but were left outside as it seemed there was nobody in the house. You took a chance by walking around and dared to go in their backyard. The moment you took a sniff of some food getting cooked, you didn't hesitate to open the gate.
There he was, Seo Changbin, in all of his glory. He dressed nicely with a white buttoned shirt and with his hair styled. Still, you couldn't help but laugh as you saw him with an apron on. This caused the man to shoot his head up, finally seeing you.
"Hey, Y/N! I didn't expect you to actually come." he chuckled.
You stopped laughing as you gave him a small smile as a sorry. "I had some stuff to do, I didn't get the time to reply."
"Glad you could make it." he said as he approached you. "You look beautiful, by the way. Skirts suit you."
You wanted to curse at him for saying something like this, but you couldn't. Changbin had come close enough to kiss your cheek and place his hand on your back, leading you to the table. You felt your heart stop for a bit, until it started to beat again when you saw the setup he made. He had laid out the utensils and plates beautifully on the table and he had arranged the place with some lights to give a romantic ambiance. He had already started to cook the steaks, and the smell was undeniably delicious.
"I am actually impressed." you said after he pushed your chair to sit comfortably at the table. "Are you always like this to girls?" you snickered.
"I am, I told you." he smiled as he went back to cooking the meat. "And I told you already, this is a proper date. Forget that we are friends for tonight."
This stuck in your mind. Forgetting that you are friends implied that he was going to treat you differently. Proof was how he had welcomed you, which had made your stomach flip around. You came here to prove something but you were already failing. You just couldn't lose in front of him. So you were going to act as well.
"Alright, handsome." you winked at him, which had seemingly worked to take him aback.
"R-Right." he stammered before letting out a small cough.
You could see from afar his Adam's apple move as he gulped, probably out of shyness. He proceeded to put some music on to fill the silence in the meantime that the food gets grilled.
"How was your day?" he asked.
"It was fine. I worked on some homework and cleaned up my dorm for once. I also hung out with Hwayoung a bit before coming here. The usual..."
"That's nice. Was Hwayoung feeling better?"
"She was. She actually got herself another date so, it's going for her..." you trailed off. "What about your day?"
He shrugged while starting to put away the meat on a plate. "It was fine, other than I was a bit stressed with setting up all of this." he admitted while gesturing the whole backyard. "I asked my mom and my sister for some help. I hope it's to your liking."
You were not used to him speaking to you like this. And it didn't help that he looked so fucking good while cooking and casually taking some sips of his water. When did he get this handsome?
"I love it, thank you." you smiled at him warmly.
He brought the food on the table and proceeded to present each dish, not forgetting to mention on why he chose each of them as they reminded him of you. If this is not peak domestic life material, you don't know what it is. But you liked it. A lot.
"The dessert is a surprise."
You frowned as you started to serve yourself. "Can't you tell me right away?"
He shook his head. "Enjoy your food for now."
"Alright. Thank you, Binnie." you chuckled.
You took a piece of the steak and ate it with some edamame he had prepared earlier. As soon as it touched your tasting buds, you couldn't believe how tender and yet buttery it was. You took another piece, just to be sure you were tasting it properly, and your eyes widened at the flavour. Changbin was looking at you expectedly, unsure if your reaction was a result of disgust or satisfaction.
"And?" he asked, biting his lip in nervousness.
"Where the fuck did you learn how to cook?"
He blinked a few times, processing your question. "I just followed my mom's recipes, to be honest."
"Well, tell your mom she makes great food. But since you were to one to cook tonight, I'd like to send my compliments to the chef."
He grinned at your words. "I'll let him know, thank you."
He then suddenly got up and told you to wait for a minute before he went inside the house. You were going to deduce a few points for leaving his date outside alone. Still, the food in front of you was enough for you to not complain. As he came back, he was holding a bottle of wine with two glasses.
"Trying to make me drunk on the first date?" you joked.
"Y/N, we aren't friends right now." he gave you a serious look. "Act as if I'm an actual guy who asked you out, please."
"Sorry..." you mumbled. "What kind is it?"
He let out a small laugh as he rubbed the back of his head. "I don't know, actually. It was in the fridge and my mom told me I could take it for tonight. Do you want a glass?"
"For sure."
Like a professional, he served you a glass, before serving himself, and he brought it up in the air. "Thank you for agreeing on going out with me."
You copied his action. "And thank you for planning out all of this. I'd have to say, not a lot of guys would go all the way from making the food to even do the decorations. It's very sweet."
You clang your glasses together before taking a sip each. The taste wasn't that bad, but it wasn't good either. You never were one for the wines, anyway. You were still in your Smirnoff sugary drinks era.
"What is your ideal type?"
This was a surprise. You opened your mouth, but nothing came out. The question was too bold to your liking.
"What's yours?" you managed to say.
He smirked at you, and you just knew then that you shouldn't have said that. "You, of course."
"I'm flattered." you played along, ignoring the beating of your heart getting faster. "But I'm genuinely curious."
He thought for a moment. "I'd say someone simple who doesn't take life too seriously. Kind of like how I am, actually. I do like physical contact, so someone who's comfortable with that. And I like when someone is being themselves, it's the most attractive thing in my opinion."
You debated internally whether he was describing you intentionally for the whole purpose of the date, or if he was being sincere. You decided to opt for the second option, trying to make yourself believe there was a possibility he liked you. But you didn't like him, no. You only wanted to think that for your pride.
"For me, I'd say something similar to yours. But I want someone I know I can trust. Though you can never be sure on who to count on, I think your lover is supposed to be the first person you think of when wanting to talk about, I don't know, a stressful day or situation."
"That makes sense, yeah." You chuckled at his words, and he frowned. "What is it?"
"I don't know, you seem to be agreeing easily."
"I'm only being honest." he shrugged. "And now, I'm hungry." he breathed out as he stood up.
You hadn't even noticed you were done with eating by then. "You want more food?"
"The dessert." he simply said before walking to the grill again.
He searched in the box next to it and pulled out long metal sticks. Searching again, he then pulled a bag before showing it to you.
"This reminds me of when we all went camping last summer. I don't know why, but that night, when we decided to make marshmallows, I just thought you were breathtaking with the fire as the only source of light for me to see you. And then, you shared yours with me because I burnt mine... I think this was the rise of our friendship."
There was so much sincerity in his voice, you wanted to cry. You still refrained yourself from doing so since Hwayoung had put mascara on your lashes, but it was hard not to.
"I remember it too. We drank a lot." you laughed. "I slept in your tent that night."
He let out a nostalgic laugh, before taking the marshmallows out of the bag to put them on the sticks. "Yeah, you did. You fell asleep right away. I just knew then that I'd want you around for as long as possible."
The unexpected shift from a simple dinner to this deep conversation was too much for you. Changbin had won your stupid little deal. Everything he said brought you back to memories with him that you had never shared with anyone else. Even with Hwayoung, who you'd consider your best friend at that point. He was a constant in your life, and you'd be absolutely torn apart if he ever disappeared from it.
"Me too. We just got so much closer from then on, it felt right." you said, and he smiled at you.
"I'm glad we did. Now, do you want to help me with this? Because I might start a fire." he laughed out.
"You must have improved since last summer. Go ahead. You're the gentleman, after all?"
"Are you the bossy one when in a relationship?" he lifted an eyebrow at you.
"You could say that." you smirked.
And as predicted, he did burn the marshmallows. It was hilarious and added some fun to the evening, easing the mood after the deep conversation you shared. The night went on smoothly. Some jokes here, a few flirts there... You hated to admit it, but it was the best date you had gone on. Even considering the ones with your exes.
"I hate to break the mood, but I'm kind of cold."
"Oh." Changbin let out. "I know this is the first date only, but do you want to go inside? It might warm you up a bit."
You nodded your head, and he immediately led you inside. You had gone inside his house before, so it wasn't so weird. You opted to sit on the couch comfortably to continue your chatting.
"Damn, this couch is comfortable as hell." you exclaimed, feeling yourself melt into the cushions.
"I know, right?" he laughed.
You repositioned yourself a little, and then realized you were slowly getting closer to Changbin. He didn't seem to mind. Having mentioned he liked physical affection, it didn't surprise you much. But you wanted to test the waters. So you got even closer.
"Bin?" you said, tone soft.
"Yeah?"
"You said to forget we are friends tonight, right?"
"Yes." he responded, though he was not exactly sure on why you were asking this while getting dangerously close to him.
"So, we can agree tonight is kind of a free pass? Like, we won't talk about it other than if you did a good job or not at taking me on a date?"
He frowned as he bit down his lip. "I mean, if that's what you want, yes."
"So then, is it okay if I-" you stopped yourself for speaking any further.
You didn't need to anyway. You were too far close to his mouth that he understood what you meant. He gave you a small nod and you attached your lips to his in a matter of milliseconds. He tasted sweet because of your shared marshmallows mixed with a bit of wine. Though the combo sounds horrid, it was an addictive taste and you just could not get enough of it. Soon, you found yourself on his lap, hands playing with his hair as his were squeezing your figure. He made his way to leave a trail of kisses on your jawline before attacking your neck. You could tell he had experience since he found your sweet spot almost immediately. Startled, you unintentionally let out a soft moan.
"Fuck, Y/N, are you that sensitive?" he growled, and then proceeded to suck on your skin again.
"Fuck you."
"If that's what you want." he joked. "That skirt really does something to me."
He went back to kissing your lips, hungry for your taste. He was needy, but remained gentle.
"Thank Hwayoung for that." you said in-between the kisses, breathing heavily.
"I'd have to apologize for ripping it apart too, yeah."
He had walked you back home safely that night. You would have stayed at his place, but that if the situation was different. This wasn't genuine. You had slept together only as a result of a fake date. Was it good? Damn yes it was. Did you wish you would be waking up to his naked figure as the sun hit his perfect face? Yes, you did. But there was an agreement. Only for that night.
So that's what happened, nothing more. The next day, by some magic, you got the courage to reach out to him and exchange in a call.
"How was it?" he asked.
"The date or the sex?" you pondered and he chuckled.
"Both."
"Both were good, but both were missing something." you lied. "I'm sorry, Seo, but you lost. No feelings there."
He laughed. "I saw it coming. Alright, but you have to admit that I am a good first date."
"I'll give you that at least, yeah."
"See you at school?"
"Yeah, see you."
Things went back as normal quickly. You had silently agreed to not tell the others. You were more than okay with this, not wanting to face the teasing from your friends. Although things were okay, they were not at the same time. There was visibly an unspoken tension between the two of you, but you acted as if it didn't exist.
A week had passed when he called you to tell you he and Chan were hosting, yet, another of their hangouts. After confirming you would be present, you rushed to the convenience store to get the drinks, as you would always do.
"What are these?" you hummed at Eunhee, holding a bottle containing a dark purple liquid.
She lifted her head up from her book and shrugged. "I think it's some sort of fruit punch juice with alcohol."
You read the label and frowned. "It can't be so bad, I suppose."
You paid quickly for your things and, soon, you found yourself in Changbin's apartment with him hugging you tightly as you had just stepped foot inside.
"Hey, Bin." you whispered in his ear.
You let go of him as you made yourself at home. You started to unpack your groceries and you noticed Sora hanging out on the sofa.
"Hey, Sora!" you waved at her.
"Hi." she waved back. "What did you get for us?"
"Beers for the guys, and I found this fruit punch thing. I thought we could try it out." you shrugged while showing her the weird liquor. "And I got this for our Jisungie." you said while holding up the Fanta he would always ask for.
Changbin shook his head. "About that, he won't come tonight. He said something along the lines that Hwayoung was out with some guy and that he didn't want what happened last time to repeat itself."
You and Sora exchanged knowing looks before she got up from the couch. "Oh well, I'll have the Fanta, then." she sighed before snatching it out of your hand.
It didn't long for Chan and Minho to join the lot with food. You went to help them out and then sat next to Changbin. Minho asked about Jisung's absence, and you went on to discussing about the poor man's love life.
"Alright, I'm blue this time!" Changbin exclaimed as you decided to start playing the board game he had prepared.
"I wanted blue." you mumbled, looking at him taking the pawn.
He flickered his eyes from you to the piece of plastic in his hand. Why had you this much effect on him?
"I'll be green, then." he sighed.
Your eyes glowed, taking the pawn from him to place it on the board. The game went along, simarly to the previous week. Some chitchatting, a couple of laughs... It was pleasant, until Chan and Sora started to discuss. You could feel her tense while he kept on bragging about Eunhee, his new friend.
She nodded her head along what he was saying, visibly uneasy. "Right. Sorry, I have a headache. Minho, do you mind helping me get some medicine?"
"No, of course." Minho immediately answered as he sat up.
Chan frowned. "Are you alright? I can help if you want and-"
"No." she exclaimed, cutting him off. "I'm okay, really. Thanks."
Her and Minho left the room while you and Changbin looked at each other. Chan went on his phone, and since Sora was up next to play the game, the two of you moved from sitting on the floor to the loveseat behind you.
"So? How was work today?" Changbin breathed out as he stretched his arm behind you.
"It was fine. I just couldn't wait to come here, though." you chuckled.
As you took a sip of your bizarre drink, he shifted his position to get a better look at you. "Ah yeah? You wanted to see me that bad?"
"Not everything is about you." you laughed out. "But essentially, yes." you admitted.
He froze. Gulping his saliva, he felt his heart clenching.
"Give me this." he shook his head, taking the bottle from you.
While you were fighting him to get it back, he searched for the percentage of alcohol on the label. Understandably enough, it had more than 10%, and you drank more than needed.
"Y/N, jeez. I thought you hated alcohol."
You shrugged, taking it back. "It tastes like grape juice. Plus, it's only my third one. I'm fine, I swear." you snorted.
"Sure you are, babe." he joked, but you blushed.
"This fake date got into your head too much." you said in a quieter tone.
"You're right, it didn't leave my mind once."
By then, Sora and Minho had come back and were seemingly about to leave. Chan argued with her a little, until he gave her a hug as they opened the door.
"Always. Good night Chan. Bye, guys!" she waved at the two of you.
You helped the boys to clean around and do the dishes since you were pretty much done with the night.
"Do you mind if she stays the night?" Changbin eventually asked Chan, as if you were not in the same room as them.
"No, it's alright." he nodded before leaving the room.
You huffed, making the man turn to you. "I would have gone back home, you know?"
"Come on, it's not the first time you sleep in a bed with me." he winked, but you slapped his chest.
"Chan could hear you." you shushed him. "And it wasn't the same kind of sleeping. I'll be fine in the living room."
You were about to get some blankets, but he took your wrist to stop you. Perplexed, you frowned at him as he stepped closer to you.
"It could be a different kind of sleeping." He lifted his free hand close to your cheek, and gently tucked your hair behind your ear. "You should know I give great cuddles, too."
You hummed, not being able to think about anything to respond. He was way too close for you to be able to compute anything in your brain.
"Come with me, okay?"
You nodded, and he led you to his room. He didn't bother getting ready for bed. He simply pulled you into his arms and brought the covers to engulf the both of you. He was warm and soft, which was something you hadn't expected. Being the buff man he is, you would have thought it'd be feeling like laying on a rock. But no. This was the most comfortable you had felt in a long time. Before you knew it, you were already dozing off to sleep.
You would be lying if you said Changbin hadn't become a constant in your trail of thoughts as time went by. Everywhere you went, you'd spot something that reminded you of him. It was crazy how he made you feel like this in such a short amount of time.
"And hear this: he didn't even text me afterwards. Can you believe it?" Hwayoung complained to you while you watched Changbin get your orders at the counter.
"He'll do it eventually, don't worry." you tried to reassure her.
Changbin arrived with your latte and served Hwayoung her muffin she had asked for. She unwrapped it eagerly before shoving it whole into her mouth. You looked at her in disbelief.
"I would have never guessed that Jisung was the one who put you in this state." you huffed.
"Not my fault he ghosted me after he kissed me." she spat out, her mouth still full. "You should talk with someone when something like this happens instead of ignoring the issue. For real, it's like you fucked a close friend and then never establish what happens next. And sex is a big deal, as much as kissing is."
You felt Changbin glancing at you, but you remained unfazed. In a reassuring manner, you rubbed Hwayoung's back while she kept on cursing Jisung out.
"He might come to the party tonight. Take it as your chance to talk with him." you suggested.
However, she shook her head violently. "Forget about him. I'll just have fun tonight."
"This will go well..." you heard Changbin mutter sarcastically under his breath, making you laugh.
Afterwards, while Hwayoung wanted to go back to your dorm to get ready, you didn't feel the need to freshen up. You friend was stubborn, though, and wanted for you to look at your very best that night. She did the same as when you had your date with Changbin and she lent you one of her dresses. Good enough for you, it wasn't as short as what she, herself, wore on a daily basis. Still, it remained a dress nonetheless.
"I hate it." you said in a bored tone as you looked at yourself in the mirror. "Why do my boobs look like this? And why do you look gorgeous and I'm like a potato?"
She laughed at your words, visibly amused by your pain. "You look stunning. Changbin won't be able to look at anyone but you."
You turned slowly and sent her a questioning look. "What did you say?"
"Oh come on, Y/N, we're not blind. We all know the two of you fucked on your 'platonic' date. It was obvious."
You scoffed. "As if we didn't know for years you had a crush on Jisung." you spat out back.
"I said we forget about him." she rolled her eyes. "Now, are you going to tell him?"
"Tell him what?"
"That you love him?"
"Are you?"
She whined, getting frustrated with you. "I don't love Jisung. Just answer my questions."
"Fine." you huffed. "I do love him. I'm just scared I guess... I don't want to ruin what we have. I can't do that to us."
"I suggest you talk to him tonight."
"I'll do it, if you promise me you will with Jisung."
She groaned. "I'll see? I don't know."
Sora was the one to greet the two of you when you arrived. With no Changbin in sight, you stuck closely to Hwayoung. The latter was already taking a few shots and she headed towards where people were dancing. You watched her, totally in disapproval. She eventually came to fetch you, leaving you no choice but to participate in her sensual dancing. When you felt a hand place itself on your hip, you didn't think twice before hitting the person in the balls, not in the mood of having hands all over your body. Hearing a loud familiar groan, you shot your head towards the man, only to realize you had just punched Changbin.
"Fuck, Bin, give me a warning, will you?" you said frantically as you helped him walk away from the dance area. "Your room?"
He nodded quickly and he leaned on you as you led the way. He plopped himself on the bed, trying to find a comfortable position. You would have loved to help him soothe the pain that you caused, but it wasn't necessarily the best placement.
"I'm sorry." was the only thing you thought of saying.
"It's okay." he chuckled. "I suppose I could have said hi beforehand."
"Yes, please." you laughed with him.
You took the time to check him out subtly. He had a buttoned shirt again, but this time, he left more skin to be visible with three buttons undone. His hair was a messy fluffy and he had put on a few rings and chains. You assumed he took them from Chan since he wasn't so much into jewelry.
"You look good." he said, seemingly checking you out just as much. "Is this Hwayoung's dress?"
You nodded. "You look great, too. I love the shirt."
He hummed a small thanks and then invited you to sit with him. You did so and he took your hand in his. You felt intimidated, to say the least.
"Are you going back to your parents' place this summer?" he asked.
"Most likely, why?" you tilted your head to the side.
"They still live far, right?"
"Like two hours from here." you shrugged. "It'll be nice, I mean, I haven't seen them that much in the last year."
"I see." he breathed out heavily, which made you frown.
"And you?"
"They leave close by, it's not much of a difference." he laughed and then paused for a moment, deep in thoughts. "Are we still going to see each other?"
You rolled your eyes dramatically. "You act as if I'll move away for eternity. I did the same last summer, remember?"
"It's not the same."
You scoffed. "How so?"
"I didn't like you back then."
And here it was again. The fast beating of your heart, the weird sensation in your belly, and the lust in his eyes. You were convinced he was messing with you, so you only laughed it out. His stare, however, was still serious.
"I didn't expect you to feel the same." he managed a little laugh. "You know? Because you said you didn't fall for me... I know it's stupid, but I think..."
He stopped himself again. He wanted to be careful with his words. This might be had been the only chance he got to tell you this if he wasn't going to see you for months.
"I lied." you said in a small voice.
His eyes went big as he leaned closer to you, searching for any signs of uncertainty. "Did you?"
You nodded your head embarrassingly. "After that night, I don't know... It felt so natural when it happened and I couldn't understand how you were so gentle and attentive." You let out a chuckle. "I think I was scared to lose you if I told you the truth."
He huffed. "Or were you just scared of admitting you lost?"
"That too." you smiled. "I like you too, Binnie. I'm sorry for not being honest from the start."
"So am I."
He got the hint as you shifted closer to him to kiss you and he did in a hurry. Unlike the last time you were being this intimate, it felt like he was hungrier, more needy. You moved up on his lap, and he winced in pain.
"Sorry." you laughed.
"It's not that..."
Looking down, you understood easily what he meant by that. Smirking at him, you kissed him again as he grabbed you by the ass. Slowly, he made his way to kiss your neck, and then your collarbone. He sucked on the skin only to make you let out a gasp.
"This dress is no better than the skirt from the other day." he said, voice raspy. "But I rather see it on the floor."
You were damned. He had no right to have this much effect on you. Lost in the moment, you didn't respond before he started to tug the top of the dress down, the intention of making his way to your breast.
"Changbin?" you heard someone knocking at the door, a voice similar to Jeongin.
You grumbled curses as you got off of Changbin so he could get to the door. "What is it?" he asked once he opened the door.
"Party's gone wild a bit, and Chan and Sora are fighting in the kitchen."
"What?" you exclaimed, standing up. "They never fight."
Jeongin shrugged his shoulders. "You should really go take a look. And sorry, I didn't want to interrupt..." he trailed off.
"It's fine."
The three of you walked back to the living room and, indeed, people were going wild. You spotted Hwayoung who was grinding on a man while Jisung watched from afar, jaw clenched. You made your way to him while Changbin attempted to diffuse the tension Chan and Sora were building.
"Are you alright?" you asked the man as soon as you stood next to him.
"I literally came here to tell her about, well, I assume you know?" You nodded before encouraging him to continue. "I don't get her." he sighed before drinking from the bottle in his hand.
"Hwayoung truly loves you. Honestly, I think she's scared of things changing between you two. And tonight means nothing to her, I can tell you that."
He scoffed. "I guess I understand, but I can't always be that guy. The one who's around whenever she needs it."
"I get that."
Changbin soon joined you and he quickly placed a peck on your lips. Jisung watched the two of you before scoffing again.
"Alright, lovebirds. Rub it in my face."
Changbin chuckled. "We've only just confessed."
"Yeah, well, at least your girl isn't being a total idiot..." he muttered before walking away.
Changbin brought you closer by the waist, a grin displayed on his face. "My girl, uh?" he smirked.
"You like it a bit too much I think." you laughed.
He shook his head. "I'll worry about that later. I'd like to continue where we left off if you'd like it too."
He came close to kiss you again, this time deeper and in a more sensual way as he pulled away with biting your lower lip. "Fuck you, Seo."
"Say please?"

risky, risky, risky - professor!dad!chan x female reader
chapter two point five?: The Club (Ji and Changbin POV) *bonus chapter*
word count: 1K
warnings: foul language (they're pretty vulgar), consumption of alcohol, suggestive conversation
an: While I was writing the part just before this, I kept thinking about what Changbin and Jisung would be talking about and I think their dynamic is just hilarious. This chapter is absolutely not vital to the plot (except for mentioning that Chan is starting a new job?). Feel free to skip if you want! I won't be hurt lol
*i tried my best to proofread it, but i also write this at 4'am lol, so it might not be great. I just haven't written in a long time and I thought this was a cute idea *shrug*

After the conversation Jisung had with Chris, he felt like it was his duty to get his mate laid.
"Alright bro. I'm gonna grab a drink from the bar," Chris announced as he got up quickly and walked away. Ji gestured to Changbin for him to return to the table. Changbin left Felix's DJ booth and made his way back to the table.
"We're not leaving here until Chan leaves with a girl," Jisung said without hesitation.
"I'm sorry.. what?" Changbin said in shock.
"We. Are. Not. Leavi-" Changbin cut him off.
"No I heard you, but what on God's good Earth gave you this idea?" Changbin asked.
"Haven't you noticed that he's been a little.. on edge lately?" Jisung continued as Changbin nodded in agreement. "Before he starts his big, new, fancy job. Why not let him blow off a little steam?"
"Han Jisung you might be a genius, but I still don't think he's gonna go for it." Changbin responded.
"Which is why I have a plan! We have the perfect team to get Chris in just the right situation dude! Listen, Hyunjin can keep the drinks coming. It'll keep him loose, confident even, maybe a little too confident. Lix is DJ-ing. If we can get Chris to dance with a girl, Felix can change the mood so fast, they'll practically already be fucking on the dance floor. Minho already set us up perfectly with our table. It's fool proof dude!" Ji explained with a little to much excitement.
"See I would agree with you if Leo wasn't at Chris' place with a babysitter," Changbin said, still unsure about the plan.
"Which is where we come in... if and only if he pulls this off, we give him the keys to our apartment and we'll watch Leo until tomorrow morning!" Ji continued, still a little too enthusiastically.
"What the fuck goes on in that twisted little mind of yours? No matter how much I love Chris, and I really do, I am not letting him fuck in my bed. And Leo is in his terrible two's. What the fuck are we supposed to do with a toddler?!" Changbin argued in disagreement.
"Well we won't know who's bed he fucks in until it happens! How about this... since you don't seem to have faith in our friend? If Chris gets a girl to go home with him, you owe me $200, if not I'll pay you." Ji challenged.
"If he does it, you have to pay to get the entire apartment disinfected, but you got yourself a bet," the two shook hands and watched as Chan stood awkwardly at the bar. "You don't stand a fucking chance bro!" Changbin said with a smile.
"Just wait and see my friend," Jisung said confidently.
Chris returned to the table, drink in hand, and greeted his friend who rejoined their group. The group made small talk as Changbin and Ji searched for any possible suitors that Chris may come across. Jisung looked over at Chris who had been staring at a woman dancing. He nudged Changbin, getting him to look over at their friend looking at this girl, pure lust in his eyes. Changbin rolled his eyes and Ji chuckled quietly. Leaving them both shocked, Chris stood and announced that he was going to approach this mystery woman. As much as Jisung was confident in their plan, he didn't actually think that Chris would have the balls to go through with it. They watched their whole interaction, her stumbling onto him upon meting, Chris inviting her to the bar to take advantage of Hyunjin's free drink service, all of Chris' miserable attempts at flirting, and lastly, Chris dragging the mystery girl onto the dance floor.
"Ain't no fucking way!" Changbin exclaimed. "How did you accurately predict everything that was going to happen tonight?"
"Binnie," Jisung responded. "I'm what one would call a love expert. Now watch phase three." Jisung looked over at Felix who was watching Chris and mystery girl dancing to the uptempo club music. Felix glanced over at Jisung who gestured to the pair on the dance floor. Felix knew what he meant almost instantly and seamless transitioned the sounds to ones destined to create some sexual tension. Felix looked over at Ji for approval and Ji gave him thumbs up. "I'll take my $200 in cash plea-" Suddenly, the girl was getting dragged away by her friend.
"HAHAHA!" Changbin laughed loudly. "Some fucking love expert you are. She's leaving!" he continued laughing. "Look! Chris is just standing there like an idiot-" Then, she returned. Chris whispered something into her ear and she nodded. They started heading for the table and Changbin's smile fell.
"Mr. Bang? To what do we owe the pleasure?" Changbin asked with a smile, hoping that it wasn't the reason he was thinking. All Chris did was give him a look and quick wink and Changbin understood. Even though the circumstances weren't ideal, he sincerely cared about his friend. He smirked, took the keys out of his pocket, releasing his car key (seeing as they needed to get home somehow), and threw the remaining keys at Chris. Chris and mystery girl left in a hurry.
"HAHA! Pay up bitch!" Jisung yelled loudly in Changbin's face. Changbin reached for his wallet and pulled out two large bills.
"Han Jisung. I swear to God, if I find out they had sex in my bed, I'm making you sanitize my entire room with a tooth brush," Changbin sighed.
"Wanna make a bet as to who's bed they do fuck in?" Jisung suggested.
"Shut up." Changbin replied. They left the club shortly after, saying goodbye to their friends, and drove over to Chan's apartment.
