Senjuro / Haisha (He/It)
Teen/Middle Fawn and wannabe host
Sourced from an unfinished AU where Senjuro becomes a demon for some reason (the creator never explained why) and ends up joining Rui’s family. He’s found by Kyojuro. The Hashira doesn’t behead or take him in Tanjiro-Nezuko style, but rather, he runs the other way and abandons him.
Due to such a source, I kindly request that Kyojuro alters and kins, please interact with care.

✨, 💘, and 🗣 for the sys ask game! we're curious to know more about you guys! (you can do all 3 in one go or separate them, up to you!)
omg.. hi... u guys r so cool... /vvpos
✨️ - Yeah!! Despite the amount of guys in the sys there's only 1 gatekeeper (that i know of) (poor guy). We use a few that I don't really see around, like agere caretaker and stuff. There's also a bunch of memory holders that hold specific memories and one of them is.. interesting!
💘 - Honestly I have no clue.. My brain is blank rn but if I ever find a song I will give an update!
🗣 - Probably Roblox & Minecraft. I've never actually seen anyone reject playing Roblox or Minecraft with one of our irl friends. As for other things, like anime and other games, I'm pretty sure it's on a person-by-person basis.. There is a couple people who ADORE different games & shows and stuff though. For example, Senjuro loves Fnaf, Muichiro loves JJK, etc.. I think it's really interesting how different interests vary by alter.. (Sorry I got off topic a bit I don't like giving plain, short answers ^^;)

Yandere Senjuro Rengoku Gemstone Prompts.
[Romatic! Aged Up AU!]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Art not mine...
Alexandrite- what brings the yandere the most joy?
It depends on if it's their earlier days Pre-Kyojuro's death or post. If it is before his death, Senjuro's favorite thing was to spend his time watching you train, eat, and goof off with him and/or his big brother. His favorite thing is your smile. If it is post Mugen Train Arc... His favorite thing is you playing along with his delusions. Aka, call him Kyojuro, tell him you're proud that he gave up on being a Demon Slayer so he could spend time with his wife and father. Never ever ever bring up the reality that he isn't Kyojuro and Kyojuro is dead, Ever.
Angelite- how calm is the yandere and what aggravates them?
Senjuro is a worshiper type yandere and very calm due to this.
However, after Kyojuro Dies he spirls down into a slew of delusions. He changes from your calm and very manageable yandere to an overly protective and possessive yandere solely due to his delusions. As everyone is trying to yank him from his created happy world.
In this happy little fantasy world he created. He is Kyojuro, and he fell in love with his tsugoku Y/N. However after realizing that while they're in the Demon Slayer Corp they couldn't be together the two of them decided to retire early get married and begin there own family while watching over his alcoholic father. Where is Senjuro in his own little delusions? Good question! Bringing up Senjuro usually will cause him to spiral into aggression and confusion.
Aventurine- does the yandere's plans run smoothly or are there obstacles that get in the way?
Hahaha hahaha yeah no. His entire plan was completely uprooted and completely altered/removed once Kyojuro died. His whole plan was to watch from the side-lines as his brother, whom he put on this god level pedestal, marry and have children with a woman he also put on that same level of pedestal. So once his brother died, his psych was afraid of losing two gods instead of just one. It began with him being consciously aware that he wasn't actually Kyojuro and only acting like him to keep you from leaving him. But it delved deeper. Until where it is now...
Black Tourmaline- does the yandere want to protect darling or harm them?
Senjuro wants more than anything to protect you but he knows he isn't going to be able to with him not being able to do Flame Breathing nor wield a sword like his brother could. 'Kyojuro' is the same wanting to protect you from everything in the world. But the difference is that 'Kyojuro' is strong enough to do so. [How is this possible physically? Well it was inside him all along. The real Kyojuro would almost be proud.] 'Kyojuro' isn't above corporal punishments. Keep bring up Senjuro or keep trying to pull him from his delusions and expect to be bent over his lap and spanked with his belt.
Blue Lace Agate- how truthful is the yandere?
To a man who doesn't even know where the real world begins and his fantasies end I don't know if he is able to be truthful. Simply because he doesn't know what is truthful. However 'Kyojuro' will always tell you how he feels about every little microscopic thing. The scary bits of his identity crisis is that he swears up and down to having memories he physically can't have [because the didnt exist]. Such as remembering when his mother went through Kankagari and she had problems with bloody noeses.
Carnelian- how does the yandere deal with their darlings strong will?
Which ones is stronger his delusions or her will? If it's the later he might not know what to do and go to his father for advice. Who honestly has no idea what his son is talking about and blow him off. He might try to reach out to the 'other' Hashira's for advice but none of them humor the crazy ramblings of the young man. After no one offering him advice he might whip out his hidden trump card drugs. When 'Kyojuro' was Senjuro he took care of any wounds his brother would get as well as taking care of his own. He also took multiple months of Kakushi/EMT training courses. In a drugged out state Y/N definitely won't put up as much of a fight about 'Kyojuro''s presence.
Charoite- how does the yandere learn more about darling?
Senjuro just asks. "Y/N, I am going to begin cooking lunch for you and brother what is your favorite foods?" "Hey, Y/N, What Is your favorite color? I'm just curious is all... no reason!" "Y/N-san, do you have any siblings? I'm just curious I'm sorry!"
The worst part of it is that before Kyojuro's Death he was very blind to his brothers strangeness/noesiness. "Senjuro is annoying you with questions you say? I apologize my brother is a naturally curious boy I'm sure he ment no harm."
How does 'Kyojuro' know so much about you? "A husband should know his wife like the back of his hand." Honsetly he doesn't even know...
Chrysoprase- how does the yandere deal with heartbreak?
He is delusional! De-lu-sion-allll!!! You can't reject him because your rejection won't sink in, and he will probably spank you for attempts to reject his reality. "A wife shouldn't speak like that to her husband." If you run away from him... he'll blanket burrito and scream for hours until his vocal cords are destroyed. Then he'll hit the bottle... but he is doinging because in his delusional reality, you were killed by a demon... he would say he is ashamed he a former Hashira allowed a Demon to take his darling wife from him. So no, he isn't going back to being Senjuro just because you're gone... if he saw you after he had already come to the conclusion you were dead. He would just start screaming and holding his head as he was trying to contemplate how this would have happened. He would either come to the conclusion that you are a ghost and he had to join you in the afterlife. Or the conclusion that you are a Demon, he would report it to the Slayer Corps, then commit Seppuku because as a hashira, he let his wife become a demon. who wouldn't even come out to investigate because they see Senjuro as the boy who cried wolf. If you got sick and died... and he watched you die he would just like the other scenario to become an alcoholic. If you two have children... you might notice that he is reliving his life through his son...
Diamond- what does the yandere want from their ideal darling?
Her Obedience. Her Love. Her Loyalty. Her Devotion. Her Smile.
Emerald- how does the yandere show their love?
His love language is physical affection and verbal affection. He also is big into gift giving but he doesn't have the former Hashira pension that his father has or brother would have. He doesn't really question why he doesn't have the money he thinks he should have because he assumes that due to his early retirement dequalified him for it.
Garnet- what is the yandere's ideal future with darling?
He wants the American Dream. He believes he is a retired hero who deserves an obedience and beautiful loving wife and two children.
Kunzite- is the yandere's motivations love, lust or something else?
Love and Delusions.
Lapis Lazuli- is the yandere controling or manipulative?
He is as controlling as one would expect from a man from the 1912/1920's. He doesn't mean to be manipulative... he's too Delusional for that...
Moonstone- are there things that the yandere will hide from darling at all costs?
So... don't judge him, but... when Kyojuro first died, Senjuro began eating and feeding you his ashes... also, the gem in your wedding ring is actually him.... oh, and that glass Olisbos he uses on you when you're being sexually punished. Yeah, that's actually.... /he even made a tasteless joke about it. While spanking you he puts the Olisbos in your womanhood while saying, "No no no y/n Kyojuro isn't gone. Actually he's closer to you than he's ever been."
Opal- what makes the yandere tick?
Calling him Senjuro. Telling him he isn't Kyojuro. That Kyojuro is gone. You don't love him. He'd get angry and spank you.
Sapphire- does the yandere believe that they are the one that darling should praise or do the believe that darling deserves theirs?
Senjuro is a worshiper. But 'Kyojuro' wants to be praised not worshipped. But like head pats and snuggles. He wants you to thank him for giving up his position as Hashira to br with you.
Rhodonite- does the yandere want kids and would they force darling into having them?
Absolutely! At least Two. Would upsettedly settle with one but wants two or more. As for force... that's complicated. Because it is the 1912/1920's. And common idea is that a wife is the property of her husband. So yeah he does force himself on you but no he doesn't see it as a bad thing because it's what wife's do for their husband's. Also he is naming his son Senjuro. No matter if you give birth to a Male or a Female...
Unakite- does the yandere have a point of no return or will they eventually realize how dire the consequences of their actions?
See the heartbroken response.

My mind is a soup of KNY, RWBY & Parahumans, so...
RWBY AU
Salem’s still the main villain, Muzan’s one of her enforcers.
Yoriichi is combined with Tanjuro here, making him T&N’s father, a SEW (ofc) and the Summer Rose equivalent.
Used to be on a team w/ Michikatsu, Gyomei, and Tamayo, w/ Shinjuro, Amane & their team being their seniors.
Nezuko inherited his Silver eyes, Tanjiro just inherited his looks, birthmark, earrings, and a whole host of father issues.
The Kamados (just Yoriichi, Tanjiro, Nezuko & Kie) are Caprinae faunus, w/ Kie, Tanjiro & Hinatsuru (Kie’s little sister) being Argali sheep, and Nezuko somehow coming out a Himalayan Tahr.
Michikatsu is transfem and Mui/Yui’s deadbeat mom.
Inosuke is a boar faunus whose trait is his ears, thus leaving him a pretty boy, to his own dismay.
Tanjiro, Inosuke, Kanao & Zenitsu are on a team. Zenitsu leads. You did not read that wrong.
Nezuko is on a team w/ Genya, Muichiro, and one of the Ubayashiki kids. Or Senjuro, who’s in a Jaune-like situation.
Giyuu (fox faunus), Sabito (hare faunus), Sanemi & Kanae were a team. Tengen and wives are a team. And Kyojuro, Mitsuri, Makomo & Shinobu were a team.
Obanai is ex-White Fang, and Nakime’s twin.
I have most of their semblances & weapons figured out, but they’ll be detailed in a separate post.
Parahumans AU
The less developed one by far, (though longer, ironically) still thinking up powers and triggers.
Muzan is a Master/Brute/Trump, with regeneration and the ability to enter “contracts” with Parahumans, enhancing their own power & regeneration in exchange for being able to kill them at will AND gain a crude copy of their power.
Kagaya is his cluster mate, a Thinker/Master who can discern someone’s beliefs and opinions through conversations, and a voice that both calms them and predisposes them into believing he has their best interest in mind.
Yoriichi is once again the Tanjirou & Nezuko’s dad, and served on the Sentai Elite w/ Michikatsu & Shinjuro.
He was basically Sun-themed Legend, powerful light based breaker state that eschewed lasers for solar flare abilities/whips, with a thinker power that allowed him to perceive the world in slow motion. This power had the caveat of the more people that looked up to him, the more powerful he was.
Kokushibou shared Yoriichi’s Thinker power, but was otherwise a Combat Tinker, specializing in miniaturized fusion powered devices such as a plasma cutter, a specialized combat suit, and a specialized training dummy.
Nezuko is a Brute/Striker/Trump, having the bog standard demon toughness and regeneration, alongside generating flames that could negate other Parahuman powers.
Tanjiro is a Brute/Thinker, who can perceive emotions as scents, along with generating a prismatic forcefield around him, parts of which could break off and explode. Gains a second Trigger which allows him to shape the forcefield into crude weaponry, alongside gaining a Master power that allowed his flames to perceive how his target’s hurt people, and turn said pain back on them.
Muichiro is a Breaker/Stranger/Shaker, who can dissipate into an amnesia inducing fog he can also manipulate and move through.
Shinobu is a Bio-Tinker, specializing in alchemical creations, specifically poisons and medicines, along with altering her own chemistry to become toxic, and devices meant to deliver them.
Sanemi is a Brute/Blaster, who by cutting open his skin kick starts aerokinesis that aerosolizes his blood into a disorienting gas, combined with a somewhat limited healing factor.
Genya is a Changer/Trump with some Brute characteristics, just tougher and with a healing factor, who by ingesting the flesh of others can take on their physical characteristics, including Parahuman abilities.
Inosuke is a Brute/Changer, rubbery body and flexible organs combined with a wereboar transformation that becomes more and more monstrous the longer he fights. Imagine Lung, but admittedly less powerful.

What Titans I think the Hashira would have
Warnings: contains spoilers for Attack on Titan! If you aren’t caught up on the anime. Also contains some spoilers for demon slayer!
A/N: AYOOO Attack on Titan and Demon Slayer? C’mon 9 Hashira and 9 Titans it’s too good not to do 😭 I will say though, this was a struggle
However, if this is enjoyable / interesting for everyone. I’ll gladly do another version with the Kamaboko Squad + Aoi & Senjuro (clearly I’ve thought about this lol)
Tumblr media
The Founding Titan: Muichiro
The founder was held for generations by the royal family. Since we know that Muichiro is a descendant of Kokushibo I thought it was fitting
This relation to Kokushibo also means Muichiro is related to Yoriichi, the founder of the breathing techniques
Also not to reach too far lol, I feel like Ymir, Frieda, and Uri all have a quiet and mysterious nature to them. This reminds me of Muichiro.
Another reason for this choice is because of the Founder’s ability to alter memories. Iykyk :’)
Tumblr media
The Attack Titan: Rengoku
The Attack Titan is the only Titan that has the ability to see the future memories of future users
It’s said that this is initially why each holder has the ability to keep moving forward
We know Kyojuro is a very determined man, similar to Eren…though they have very different goals in mind lmao
I think he’d be the ideal wielder of this Titan because of his determination and strong will. And well…the man is strong, imagine how beefy his Titan would look.
Tumblr media
The Female Titan: Mitsuri
Okay I feel like this is obvious lmao, but I chose Mitsuri for this over Shinobu because of Mitsuri’s physical strength
The female Titan is durable and versatile which I think is also true to Mitsuri’s character
It also has the ability to harden its skin which I think Mitsuri would be a fan of (cause it’s sparkly lookin)
While Annie and Mitsuri are two very different characters…I think Mitsuri would suit the female Titan very well
Tumblr media
The Armor Titan: Sanemi
I feel like Sanemi would 100% be the perfect user for the Amour Titan
He certainly is unhinged enough and definitely has a little more willpower than Reiner in my mind
Sanemi’s raw strength and stamina would suit the Armor’s abilities
I know Gyomei is probably the first to come to mind for this Titan because of his stone breathing, but I have my reasons
Tumblr media
The Colossus Titan: Gyomei
The Colossus Titan is naturally the largest Titan, which means it’s very slow moving
Regardless of its height and speed it is one of the deadliest Titans — especially because of how it’s wielder transforms
Gyomei honestly reminds me of this Titan because of his height, he reminds me of Bertolt as well since he was seen as a gentle giant
It’s ironic to me that the wielders of the colossus Titan always seem to be the quiet ones
Tumblr media
The Cart Titan: Shinobu
Pieck and Shinobu remind me of each other, so this was the easiest decision to make lol
The cart Titan is known for it a durability and speed, Shinobu is the second fastest Hashira behind Tengen.
Compared to the other Titans, the cart doesn’t seem to be the strongest when it comes to attacks (hence why they attach guns and cannons to her lol) but it can still do a lot of damage
Which I think is true for Shinobu herself, she isn’t the strongest Hashira but she is very resourceful and can do a lot of damage in other ways
Tumblr media
The Jaw Titan: Giyu
It took me a while to figure out where I’d place Giyu. Maybe I’m a little biased cause all Jaw users are hot (plz I’m talking about Ymir and Porco only lmfao)
Something just itches my brain perfectly thinking about Giyu fuckin running and jumping around while wielding the Jaw Titan
The Jaw Titan is probably the most feral Titan since it’s main power source is it’s biting ability. The users of this feral ass Titan are soft spoken with an attitude lol
Also Giyu knows what he’s doing in this Titan, unlike Porco who got his ass handed to him every episode
Tumblr media
The Beast Titan: inosuke Tengen
Inosuke would 100% be the obvious choice for the beast Titan, but this is a Hashira post so we are just going to ignore the perfect choice :’)
I think Tengen possesses the chaotic energy needed to wield this ugly ass Titan lmfao
We all know Tengen is loud af and loves to be flashy, so we are gracing him with Zeke’s beast abilities. The beast Titan is literally just known for having animal traits.
That is far too boring so we are giving Tengen the same powers Zeke has — aka the ability to create Titans. It’s perfectly flashy for Tengen’s taste
Also, just saying, I think Tengen’s beast Titan would take on the physical traits of a wolf or bull l
Tumblr media
The War Hammer Titan: Obanai
This man is cold as fuck during battle. Imagine him wielding the war hammer and just summoning weapons and spikes
The War hammer’s unique ability of it’s user not residing in it’s nape would low key make Obanai cocky lol
This man will think he is invincible , tbh I chose him for the war hammer the same reason I chose Giyu for the Jaw.
I love the idea of this man going absolutely feral while using this Titan. He’s strong as fuck too, so he has the strength and stamina to be summoning and wielding all the abilities the war hammer has

The existent of tanjiro means that theres always his alter ego tanjiro in which in this essay i will share my recent thoughts of dark tanjiro (pressumably best said as demon tanjiro but no) and his shenanigans of what i think would be nice or love to see
Cw : grammar error lol, i proofread but stillll.... and i just write what i thought at the moment. Very ooc since i like it that way
In the case of following, tanjiro who has always been kind older brother, supports and helps everyone, tries to do his best and keeps a high ambition would be peculiar of sighting to this dark tanjiro who dwells in darkness, nihilistic and obviously rebellious to everyone.
Saying that he is equivalent to a demon is wrong. He's more to the combination of lonely giyuu + abbrasive sanemi. Plus a little bit of douma. wouldnt that be nice? I find it good that in every kindness, theres always a spot of hatred in our heart. Tanjiro has it
Scenarios of him running around in the butterfly estate, messing with the girls and interrupting shinobu with her experimemts and research to which she would throw him out. Hes playful like tengen but a harsh one. He once made one of the girls cry by saying how bad the rice balls taste (tanjiro would've kill him in spot) and he laughed upon the fat tears dripping on the floor. Aoi noticed this and scolded him to which he responded "it was just a joke!"
Dark tanjiro maintains a good relationship with kyojuro (he respected him obviously. He is way too strong for his own good!) and he oftens visit his estate. Senjuro would try to avoid him, the teasing and joking remarks from him made the poor boy uncomfortable and become more self conscious about himself. Obviously he wouldnt tell this to his brother, not when tanjiro eyes him like an eagle looking at its prey. Pathetic, with a scoff he thought.
He doesnt mess around with muichiro that much. Its not entertaining to piss off someone near your age, he thought. Maybe because he usually just spaces off but tanjiro hates him. He's..... painfully boring. If he could be described, he's blank like a white paint on a white canvas.
with everytime you walk pass through sanemi's estate, you can hear the sound of punching and grunting resonates through the air. Dont step in to stop them, its gonna be the cause of your death. They just wont stop
Giyuu. Giyuu. He doesnt have any words on him. Probably the same like muchiro but he liked the feeling of funeral whenever he's around him. Reminds him of his family.
Probably the reason why tanjiro could always be seen with mitsuri is because he probably would admire her huge chest as he smooth talks himself in the conversation. Mitsuri was oblivious as always, thinking that the boy is too friendly for his own good. She knew tanjiro is not himself but the boy is being very kind and nice to her. How could she deny it?
Like how he often gets into a fist fight with sanemi, both obanai and him always get into a quarrel everytime they cross their path. Be it about weather, swordmanship, kaburamaru, mitsuri or anything whatever that they have different opinions on, they'll quarrel. Its amusing at first but can be suffocating as time pass
Dark tanjiro despise gyomei. He envied him. He wanted to be him. He loathed him. He admired him. Gyomei is just, too good to be true. Well, in strengh obviously. Who would want to live a life where you cant see and need to rely on your hearings and other senses. Its annoying, having to deal with that kind of stuff. "You cant be perfect. Yeah.... no one is perfect," tanjiro laughed, his mind once again brought him to the image of gyomei sitting alone as if waiting for something to happen.
Tanjiro had a situation where he once accidentally (purposely) hit on one of uzui's wives. What was her name again? Suma was it? Yeah, she was flustered and taken aback by tanjiro's words she couldnt help but to cry in embarrasment. Tengen saw this and immediately knocked tanjiro until he fainted. The last thing he saw was a bloodied smirk and narrow eyes.
Putting up with tanjiro's behaviour is certainly not an easy job. He's playful, flirty, rebellious, a ticking time bomb and mysterious. It makes you think that you're in a game, his game and every step you choose determines his next move. Tanjiro would visit you every so often, be it night or day, occupied or free, he's there, waving to you with a smile "mind if i knock you up?" Does he have to put it in that way? Its very uncomfortable being with him but you cant simply push him away and you dont even know why. Maybe because you secretly enjoys his company. Could it be? You're so lonely everytime you wouldnt mind someone bothering you. But if tanjiro is crossing the line, you wont hesitate to send this boy back to the butterfly estate. "I want to kill you so bad tanjiro," "you cant cuz you'll miss me,"

The Aftermath
Chapter 2: Dinner
Tumblr media
Sanemi Shinazugawa/Reader (F)
Three months have passed since you woke up at the Butterfly Estate beside your good friend Sanemi Shinazugawa. You have healed physically, but not emotionally. You take up an offer to spend some time by yourself at the Shinazugawa residence, hoping to finally find peace with yourself.
**THIS STORY CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE END OF THE DEMON SLAYER MANGA. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T FINISHED THE MANGA.**
Tags/warnings: Shared trauma, angst, survivors guilt, slight tw, comfort, slight fluff, reader is a Hashira
Chapter 1 can be read here.
You can also read Chapter 2 here on Ao3.
Enjoy! :)
A little over three months had passed since defeating Muzan Kibutsuji and the remaining Upper Moons. Your injuries, along with the others who had survived the fight, were just about fully healed. One week prior to today, the demon slayer corps had been disbanded. Sanemi Shinazugawa, Giyuu Tomioka, and yourself had attended the final meeting called by the late Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s only son and successor, Kiriya Ubuyashiki. The remaining Ubuyashiki children were very grateful to you three. As the only remaining Hashira, they were only able to verbally express their appreciation for your support, to that you three slayers returned as well. If it wasn’t for the Ubuyashiki family, Muzan would have never been defeated in the first place. It was due to their clever organizational skills that any of you were even alive.
Concluding the meeting, Kiriya went on to inform the three of you now-retired Hashira that they had planned for a glorious celebration dedicated to the demon slayers to celebrate humanity’s victory. The celebration would be held at the Ubuyashiki estate since the grounds were substantial enough to hold all sorts of people and activities. Crows were sent to villages and towns across the land to inform of the festival, welcoming those who wished to show their appreciation to the remaining retired demon slayers for risking their lives for such a noble cause, and to pay their respects to those who committed the ultimate sacrifice. Every single village that was visited by a crow had accepted the invitation, many planning to bring dishes, drinks, and desserts of all kinds. Another large town had offered to bring fireworks to light up the skies at dusk.
After you were released from the Butterfly Estate’s infirmary, Sanemi had allowed you to stay at his residence while he remained. You had grown up living at the Rengoku residence after Shinjuro Rengoku saved you after your family perished at the hands of demons. Even after you became a Hashira, you would return to their home after long missions; however, part of you wanted time to yourself after losing so many people in such a short time. You loved Shinjuro and Senjuro Rengoku like family, but a feeling deep down in your heart persuaded you to accept Sanemi’s kind offer. After spending three whole months at the Butterfly Estate, constantly being woken by the voices of others you shared your hospital room with, you thought this would be a perfect opportunity to allow yourself to mourn in a healthy fashion. You spent a week at the Shinazugawa residence, taking time to heal your mental state in solitude. Sanemi Shinazugawa was a very secluded man and claimed he did not need the aid of the Kakushi throughout his time as a Hashira, so his residence remained empty until you arrived. There, you took time strolling through his gardens, tending to his flowers and various plants he owned and raised. You were surprised he didn’t show you his gardens after spending so much time training with him in his courtyard. The idea of Sanemi watering flowers made you laugh to yourself; this tough, vicious man taking the time out of his violent days of slaying demons to water some plants. Through the garden ran a small creek surrounded by neatly placed stones on either side, depositing into a pond with koi fish which seemed to be rather well behaved. At the center of his garden was a great, majestic weeping willow tree. The leaves of the tree draped down magnificently, just several feet from the ground. Most of your week was spent meditating underneath this tree. You felt safe underneath it, almost as if it was protecting you from anything outside of its weeping branches. The faint running water of the stream aided your meditation, allowing yourself to find peace at last. You also made sure to frequently check on his rhinoceros beetle that he kept in a quaint tank. You had seen him once or twice when you had visited Sanemi in the past, the memory of his name resting at the tip of your tongue. Taichi? That sounded right. You had to admit though, he was pretty adorable for a bug, and quiet too. You didn’t exactly know what to feed him, so you tried giving him a mix of greens and fruit you had harvested from the garden outside. He seemed pretty happy with what you gave him because he just about finished whatever you gave him.
It was evening when Sanemi had returned to his home, as promised by the nurses of the Butterfly Estate. In honesty, Sanemi had recovered almost two weeks ago, however the nurses insisted he remain in their care until they knew for sure his injuries wouldn’t reopen. To your surprise, Sanemi didn’t argue like he typically would. Instead, he simply agreed to stay, while on the other hand, you were able to leave just a week later. He had sent his crow the day before, informing you of his anticipated arrival, so that morning you were sure to stop in a town nearby to purchase some ingredients for a hearty meal that you figured you two could share. He wasn’t a picky eater by no means. You picked out many ingredients, green onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, napa cabbage, fresh beef, and wheat flour for the noodles you planned to knead and cook yourself. You also made sure to purchase the ingredients you needed to make his favorite sweet, ohagi. The villagers had recognized you as one of the former Hashira, insisting that you did not need to pay them for your pickings, however you persuaded them to accept your money regardless of your status. It was a strange feeling; you didn’t like being treated as someone of such importance. After all, you weren’t a Hashira anymore since the demons were defeated.
Once you returned back to the Shinazugawa residence, you spent the entirety of the day preparing your dough for the sukiyaki dish that you planned to make and bounced back and forth between making that and the ohagi as well. You imagined how Sanemi would react to making such a large meal, although you were sure he would enjoy it just as much as he enjoyed the meals prepared at the Butterfly Estate. Admittedly, the Kakushi who prepared your meals were very talented with cooking, and you were pleased that they provided such a wide range of dishes during your stay. It was a nice change to be provided with a warm meal that you didn’t have to make yourself. While living with the Rengoku family, you were typically the one to cook the meals during your days off from slayer assignments, and while on the clock, you were the one to provide for yourself. However, out of all the years you knew Sanemi, you never cooked for him before, and that made you anxious. What if he didn’t like your cooking? What if the noodles were too tough, or the vegetables were undercooked? You took a deep inhale in through your nose for a moment, then exhaled through your mouth. There was no time for worrying. If you wanted to make these dishes perfect, then you needed complete concentration.
Just a few hours before the sun set, Sanemi arrived at home. You had finished setting the table, just gathering up the leftover dishes that you used to cook. The door slid open and you jumped at the sound, reflexively whipping your frame around to face where he stood. He no longer was covered in bandages; only extra scars added to the previous ones littered his exposed skin. His face held an expression of disbelief at the sight of the prepared table; he certainly wasn’t expecting a home cooked meal.
“Welcome home, Shinazugawa-san,” you chirped. “I made dinner for us, so I hope you’re hungry.”
“You made all of this?” He questioned, taking a few steps inside before sliding the door close behind him. “I smelled it a mile away, of course I’m hungry. It smells great, L/N-san.”
You let out a quiet sigh of relief. That was a good sign, he thought it smelled good! You removed your apron and neatly folded it, setting it down on the ground beside the table. Sanemi made his way towards the table, kneeling down in front of it before scooting himself forward. You followed, clapping your hands together in thanks.
“Thank you for the meal!” You said, drool practically leaking from the corners of your mouth as you hovered over the hot, steaming bowl of sukiyaki. Sanemi smiled at your gesture, putting his hands together as well.
“Yeah, thanks for the meal,” he agreed. “I really appreciate it.”
You only gawked at the man sitting across from you. Was this really the same guy you’ve spent the last few years training with? He’s always been so brash, even towards you. The Sanemi you know would have scoffed at you without even voicing any thanks and dug right into his meal. You didn’t really know how to feel about his recent alter in personality. To be honest, you started to notice the drastic change as soon as you woke up in the Butterfly Estate just a few months prior to today. Sure, he’s always has his moments when he was tired, or even for an hour or so on a day off that you both shared sparring, but ever since the day you woke up, ever since you saw him cry, he’s been incredibly passive and compliant towards everyone. You told yourself that it was most likely due to the defeat of Kibutsuji and all demons. He didn’t have to hold such an aggressive persona anymore now that humanity’s biggest threat was eliminated. He could let his guard down a bit and try to enjoy the new chance of life that he was given. You couldn’t complain though, as amusing as it was whenever he would yell at you or call you names while you two trained or were assigned on missions together, it was nice to be friends with somebody who treated you as their equal rather than their inferior. Somewhere deep down, you thought, Sanemi never meant the things he said that might have hurt your feelings in the past.
“What’s wrong? Aren’t you going to start eating?” he mumbled through a mouth full of noodles and meat. His pale lavender eyes darted downwards toward the faintly steaming ohagi resting on a dish in the center of the table. “I see you also made ohagi. Hopefully you made it right.”
Your cheeks puffed up in a pout, swiping the chopsticks from beside your sukiyaki dish. “Of course I made it right, red bean, just how you like them!”
“That’s not what I meant,” Sanemi chuckled after he swallowed.
After you both finished your sukiyaki, you sat and chatted for a little bit while munching on your ohagi. He told you about how he was one of the last patients to leave the Butterfly Estate, and how annoying he thought this one Kakushi worker was.
“She would check up on me almost every thirty minutes, always asking if I was hungry or thirsty, or if I was in any pain,” Sanemi groaned, visibly becoming more irritated as he explained. He was certainly picky when it came to people. That certainly did sound annoying, however you knew that the Kakushi girl was most likely only doing her job to make sure Sanemi was as comfortable as possible. “It got to the point where I had to start telling her to screw off, but she never got the hint. It was almost like she kept bothering me on purpose.”
“It seems to me that she was just doing what she was told,” you reasoned as you picked up your tan ceramic mug of warm green tea, taking a sip before continuing. “I’m sure she wasn’t doing it on purpose, she probably had orders to keep an eye on you.”
“Well, I’m sure she didn’t have orders to check in on me that often, nobody else was checked on that much at the Estate, not even you or Giyuu. I bet if I had been more aggressive towards her then maybe she would have left me alone.”
You rolled your eyes at his last comment. That sounded more like the Sanemi you knew, trying to scare people away, especially people who tried to help him. You knew that all too well. He was the same way towards you when you both met for the first time. You became a Hashira after he did, so he initially saw you as his inferior. He tried to intimidate you before every Hashira meeting began, to which you will admit, you did end up becoming nervous around him during those gatherings.
A few years ago, shortly after you were just promoted to a Hashira, you both were assigned on a mission together. It was a several day-long mission, most of it consisting of travel time. He was very hostile towards you in the beginning of your journey, snapping at you over any small question you asked. You had always made the first move to question what he wanted for dinners, but it ended up becoming a chore to agree on meals with him. Whenever you suggested something, he would always shoot down your proposal before eventually insisting on what his tastebuds craved. You imagined that you both could have saved so much time on that mission if he had just answered you appropriately the first time. After several days of sticking together, you could tell he was starting to calm down around you. Sanemi could never be perfectly calm, so when you say he “calmed down,” he was just slightly less hostile towards you whenever you spoke to him. Regardless, you tried your best to stand your ground and remain friendly towards him after contemplating if this was just the way he was always going to be. Sanemi was your partner on this mission after all, so to make sure the mission was completed correctly you figured you’d at least stay on good terms until then.
Following the completion of that mission, Sanemi’s taunting seemed to die down during Hashira meetings, and you found yourself having neutral conversations with him from time to time. It wasn’t until after Kyojuro Rengoku’s untimely death that you found him approaching you outside of Hashira meetings.
You were truly heartbroken over the death of your closest friend, and you took it very hard. Admittedly, you were on the verge of giving up as a Hashira because of it. You stopped showing up to Hashira meetings and received many letters from the other Hashira and even Kagaya Ubuyashiki himself, but you ignored them all. The first person to approach you was Sanemi, who had traveled to the Rengoku residence where you lived. He had come to offer you a meal and some company, which was quite astonishing to you. The last time you had seen him was during Kyojuro’s funeral, but he had not interacted with you at all; none of the Hashira did, except Mitsuri Kanroji for a brief moment of mutual comfort.
Sanemi apologized that he didn’t offer his sympathies earlier. He also informed you that everyone was worried over your lack of participation, to which you scoffed.
“If they’re so worried, then maybe they should check up on me themselves,” you said.
“That’s why I came instead.”
You were taken aback by his quick response. That was the first day that you recalled his change in personality, at least towards you. He was easily able to persuade you to begin attending meetings again, and even went as far as to invite you to train with him at his residence. Slowly, you started to notice yourself becoming more and more comfortable around him, enjoying the time that you spent in his company. There were certainly still times that he insulted you for not being able to knock him down in a spar, but he didn’t come off as purposefully aggressive like he used to. Kagaya Ubuyashiki recognized how well you two regarded each other and sent you on many missions together. You eventually became confused over how you truly felt towards Sanemi.
You never wanted to admit it, but it was certain that you deeply admired your fellow Hashira. In any other case, you would have believed that you were in love with him, but there was no way that you would ever admit to something so ridiculous. Sanemi was the complete opposite of you, so self-assured and violent, he was discourteous to everyone he met, which would frankly only harm your reputation if you were to commit to him. But the biggest reason of all was that you were both demon slayers, Hashira particularly. Neither of you had time to devote to such a thing as a relationship, because any mission you could take on may well possibly be your last. Being a Hashira was a considerable obligation, to which you were entrusted to protecting the lives of those weaker than you.
For the time being, you pushed away your feelings for Sanemi. You figured that he was too focused on his work and didn’t have time for a romantic relationship anyway. That was, until you woke up after defeating the demons.
“L/N-san? What are you looking at? You’ve been staring at my shoulder for a while. Is there a bug or something?” You were pulled out of your reminiscing, focusing on the silver-haired man you were recalling from your memories once again. He dorkily brushed his shoulder with his hand. “Nothing’s there,” he murmured.
“Sorry, Shinazugawa-san, I guess I zoned out for a second there,” you stammered.
He raised a faint eyebrow towards you, almost as if in question. You tapped your fingernails on your cup of tea that was now room temperature before quickly pulling it up to your mouth to chug the rest of the herbal liquid in hopes to break this awkward tension. When you returned the cup to the table in front of you, Sanemi spoke up to change the subject.
“I received a letter from the Ubuyashiki family’s crow yesterday, it was a reminder about the celebration tomorrow night.”
You softly gasped, remembering the same letter you received the previous day as well. You were so focused on seeing Sanemi again today that you totally forgot that tomorrow was the celebration that was dedicated to the former demon slayers.
“Oh, yeah,” you began. “It is tomorrow, isn’t it? How time flies,” you chuckled to hide your uneasiness. It was no matter, Sanemi effortlessly picked up on the way your body tensed up.
“Did you have something in mind that you were going to wear?”
You pondered for a moment, trying to imagine the inside of your closet back at the Rengoku residence. You owned a few pretty kimonos, however you received them as gifts when you were still an early teenager. Now that you were almost a decade older, you had no doubt that they didn’t fit you anymore.
“Well, not exactly,” you started off. “I have some kimonos, but I don’t think they really fit me anymore. After I became a demon slayer, I typically only wore my uniforms while I outgrew the other clothes I had.”
Sanemi hummed at your response. He leaned forward onto the table, propping himself up with a forearm while grinning strangely at you. His gesture sent a chill up your spine, and you noticed your face feeling rather warm. “Huh, is that so? I guess that means that we’ll have to go to town tomorrow to find you something nice to wear. I’m not letting you go to the festival looking like a fool.”
You gaped at him, unable to articulate a response right away. Your heart fluttered at his words, feeling flattered, almost honored, to be his concern. He wanted you to look nice tomorrow is what he was trying to convey. Such a trivial thing to be concerned about, you thought, but he did have a point. You would be meeting many people the least you could do was try to look presentable. After all, this was a celebration in honor of your victory.
“You’ll go with me, Shinazugawa-san?” you questioned with wide eyes, just to be sure you heard him correctly.
“Of course I’m gonna go with you, did you even hear what I just said? You can spend the night here and we can leave at dawn, I have an extra futon you can use. We’ll have a while before the festival starts tomorrow afternoon, so maybe we can stop for lunch when we get there. My treat, since you made such a good dinner tonight,” Sanemi avoided eye contact when he complimented your cooking skills, almost as if he was too shy to actually admit it to your face.
Your face broke out in a wide smile, a wave of encouragement washing over you. He actually liked your cooking! After worrying all day over it, you actually succeeded in making a meal that Sanemi would enjoy! Not one bit of his meal was left you noticed, and he even finished two or three cups of the tea you brewed. That was a huge accomplishment in your book.
“That sounds like a great idea, thank you for coming along with me!” You bowed your head in appreciation. “I suppose it’s smart to have a second opinion on whatever I decide to wear.”
Sanemi scoffed, standing from the table and gathering your empty dishes and cups and walking away with both hands full. “I’m sure you’ll look fine in whatever you put on,” he mumbled as he strode off to the kitchen.
You were left alone at the table, looking down as you twiddled your fingers nervously. It was one thing after another that made your heart rate speed up, it seemed. You didn’t exactly know how to handle this new Sanemi, you figured he wouldn’t care what you intended to wear, or to even go as far to take you out to find a nice outfit. Typically, he would mock anything you wore that wasn’t your corps uniform, so that final compliment was what threw you off the most. You exhaled loudly and clapped your palms against your reddened cheeks, hoping to scare away the tingles that ran throughout your body. The only thing you could focus on right now was figuring out what Sanemi’s intentions were with you. Sure, they were harmless compliments and kind gestures, but it was a whole other level for this man. He didn’t regularly give out compliments. In fact, he didn’t give them out at all. But now…? No, you thought. He’s just your friend, he just has a funny way of showing it. There was no way that he felt anything romantic for you. Even if he did, you would know it by now. Sanemi was a very blunt person, and he was always honest with you… sometimes a little too honest. You bit your nail as scenarios raced through your mind. Being Sanemi’s friend was like being on a rollercoaster, sometimes you didn’t know what to expect. Sometimes it was disappointing, while other times it was a thrill.
Footsteps approached you again, tearing you from your ruminations. “It’s getting pretty late now; we’ve been talking for almost two hours. If we’re gonna be up early then we should at least get some decent sleep.”
Sanemi showed you to his room where he laid an extra futon just a few feet away from his own. You had been using his futon since you arrived at his residence a week ago and made sure to wash it before you first used it and after you last used it. He fluffed his extra futon up, asking you how you preferred to sleep, to which you insisted that you were pleased with any way your futon felt. You were just grateful that he even offered to have you spend another night.
He blew out the candle that sat between your futons that he originally lit to illuminate the room until you were both situated in your mattresses. You turned to your side to face away from his direction, taking a bundle of your heavy blanket into your embrace. You wondered to yourself if you should tell him good night or not. Would that be weird? You always said good night to Kyojuro and Senjuro. After a minute, you took in a deep breath and worked up the courage to speak, but were alas disrupted by a deep snore. Sanemi must be one of those people who fall asleep easily, you thought. It wasn’t very long before you followed, feeling an unfamiliar sense of comfort just before you fell into the unconscious world of sleep.

In a hostless system and I super badly want to be host! I want to front as much as possible and live a human life! I’ll learn to mask and perform hostly tasks; hell, I’ll attend school if it means I get to be host! I can contribute to the system as host, I know I can! I know many might say being a host is exhausting — and I’m sure it is — but I don’t care, I want to be host! I’m not sure what it takes to be host, but I swear I’ll learn!
