This little sweetie is Penny. She will be 13 in February. She has some sort of upper respiratory issue so we have a vet appointment in the morning and are keeping her separate from the other doggies. Her owner passed away in the home. She was a breeder and showed the dogs in Kansas city. There were a total of 13 dogs found with the body. Penny's actual name is Miss Money Penny. She was the mama of the puppies. Her son who is 11 and his name is Martini will be coming to the sanctuary as well. He was the star show dog. Penny unfortunately did not receive as good of medical care or treatment. Her teeth are rotted and falling out, has cataracts, a hernia, malnourished, and pretty sick. This girl will live out her days here in freedom. Once Martini is neutered he will be able to come to the sanctuary. She will now be known as Pretty Penny. I refuse to associate her with money. Today, I'm pretty angry at breeders. This girl for her 13 years has been bred, and has not had medical treatment since 2010. Right now she is sound asleep in a heated bed with fuzzy blankets and teddy bears and music in the background. I just got home with "Penny". It is a 2 1/2 hour trip both ways to our vet. So it takes the better part of the day for an appointment. Good news she just has an upper respiratory infection that is not into her lungs yet. She was given subcutaneous fluids and a penicillin shot, along with cough drops. We were sent home with Clavamox for her dental infection and we also have Doxycycline if she needs it later on. We have to keep her quarantined so no one else catches the germs. Everyone has had their Bordatella so fingers crossed it doesn't spread. She could have to be separated for 4-6 weeks but we just have to play it by ear. She has also already eaten and gone bathroom since getting home. Our sweet girl is now resting in her heated bed. It has been a long day but she really did fantastic. 💗 I have decided to name her Luna Grace. Thank you, Susan for the suggestion. 💗 She will be loved to the moon and back and never have to wonder what love is. Penny is currently sleeping in a heated bed. I fed her some Scient Diet sensitive stomach wet food and she just devoured it, little sweetie she couldn't eat fast enough. She has green discharge from her nose and is coughing. So it's a good thing we are going to the vet in the morning. I've realized she doesn't know her name at all. No variation of it that I could think of. So I've decided to rename her and give her a fresh start. It is so sad to me that she is 13 and wasn't ever called by her name. Sweet baby Luna Grace needs lots of love and hugs sent her way. She's so tiny and nothing but bones. I'm sitting with her in her room, she loves to sit on your lap and snuggle 💗 Little mama needs lots of rest and healing. She's eating well but is not drinking. We got her a cage "water bottle" which is what I think she's used to. So we will see if that helps. We also can do subcutaneous fluids if her drinking doesn't pick up.
