After two miserable years in captivity, Sengo is finally free.

Well...

It hasn't been quite that simple. But he's choosing to push that deep, deep down inside for the time being, because right now... He's walking!

Or... stumbling, really, like a newborn calf.

His strong, powerful tail, which made him agile as could be in the water, had instead split into these two clumsy legs in a process he could only describe as agonizing.

It would be a bit embarrassing, the reactions garnered from the few people out at this time, surely put off by his strange and struggling manner of movement (and definitely not by his sheer lack of clothing)-- but he's far too busy staring in wonder at everything around him.

So many of the buildings are dark, and their doors don't open when he tries to pull at their handles. But then he sees one with light coming from inside-- he spots the word 'pharmacy' which he can more or less infer the meaning of-- and excitedly rushes to the doors, using the wall for support... He pulls, and it opens!

Excited and almost overwhelmed by this new discovery, he clambers inside, wide ochre eyes darting back and forth across everything.

Shelves, boxes, bottles, bags, lights... So much! Oh, is that... food? He moves toward this aisle, haphazardly using shelves as a guide along the way, knocking off items with mumblings of "oops...! oh dear..."

There is a particularly shiny metallic bag that catches his eye, with 'chips' printed on it near the bottom... He doesn't know what they are, but if they're in such a pretty bag, they must be delicious, right?

He grabs the bag and haphazardly rips it open, half the bag's contents flying out and to the ground, and starts munching.

"Oh? Yummy...!"

He supposes seventy years of proximity would do that to a person. Or was it just the shared experience of loss?

It wasn't like he told anyone where he would disappear off to once a year, flowers in hand.

There were only four humans that made his heart ache in this way. One was their saniwa, with whom he shared an inexplicable bond. He doesn't know why the gods decided to torture her with his emotions, but he hates being the reason for her pain, even if it doesn't happen often.

The next was his former master Date Masamune-- his admiration for the man is written into his core, to the point where he was willing to throw away his own agency to fulfill Masamune-kou's ambitions.

Then there was Nobuyasu, the child he watched grow up into a compassionate young man, whose life history decided to end too early.

And finally...

He sets the flowers down in what appears to be an inconspicuous spot, but he doesn't need a marker to tell him where to place his offerings.

A world without war... If he waited for that day to come... he would be holding onto his feelings for eternity. Gohei deserved better.

Another obon has come and gone and BOY did I suffer this time O_O so here we go. I request reactions from Ookurikara, Yagen, Sengo, Hasebe to a sunburned chaffed saniwa returning from work outside on a blazing summer day. Silly Saniwa forgot to put on sunscreen at the start and is burned and cannot move later on when the day is over. What do the swords do for a saniwa who is all sore and can't move around for a while because they made a mistake? XD

Sorry i’ve taken so long to get to it i hope you haven’t had any nasty repeats of sunburn anything like that!

Ookurikara

• Calling you an idiot is the only verbal acknowledgement he will give. Plenty of others will scold you in his place, it’s not like he has to care. He tries to present as very unconcerned about your condition. Too bad he’s pretty obviously hanging around to keep an eye on you, not so subtly leaving medicine to help soothe the pain and totally just happening to be nearby whenever you need something.

Yagen

• You have fairly earned a bit of a lecture on having to take care of your skin better. He warns you about potential health risks if you don’t but isn’t too harsh. He makes you promise to come to him the next time you’re going out so he can remind you to wear sunscreen. He’s very happy to step up as a helper and take care of you, reminding you pointedly to stay in the shade and drink lots of water.

Sengo

• He probably can’t resist a line about how even he is careful about exposure to the sun, with all he strips he doesn’t want all sorts of uncomfortable areas to be getting burned. There’s no going back and putting sunscreen on you now so the least he can do is help take care of you now, he’s more than happy to be glued to your side and do little things for you. His main thing is joking around to distract you from the pain.

Hasebe

• Would Hasebe seriously consider fighting the sun for his Aruji? Of course he would! He grumbles to you bitterly about how it’s physically impossible and urges you to please call on him whenever you wish to go out, he’d drop everything to lather you with protection - a statement which he quickly embarrasses himself by saying. He’s probably going a little overboard with taking care of you but it’s because he cares.

Sengo watches in silence as Ookurikara lays the flowers down upon the spot.

For once, this is a silence he's sharing-- not one he feels the need to fill with awkward chatter just so it doesn't hang.

As he gazes at the flowers, he finds himself revisiting their time with the Tokugawa in his mind-- they had been through so much, so many years-- so many decades-- and upon returning home it seemed as if hardly any time had passed.

Sometimes he wished the lives of Honda Tadakatsu and Ii Naomasa had been much, much shorter.

Thinking of Nobuyasu, and now looking upon where Gohei's grave once was, he can't help but feel the seething prick of hate for one Tokugawa Ieyasu. Because of him, these two young men needlessly lost their lives. He would have gladly made good on the Muramasa reputation of being enemy to the Tokugawa should the need have arisen.

But... Nobuyasu (nor Gohei) wouldn't have wanted that, and Sengo... doesn't really understand. That boy had grown up to be far kinder and sweeter than Sengo feels he has the capacity to be. He--

He pulls himself out of those thoughts, just in time to blink clear his misty eyes.

"Ookurikara..." he says finally, as he takes a seat, kneeling there where he'd stood.

"Has Tsurumaru ever spoken to you about what happened, after you all had departed?"

Almost 30 minutes ago, the short ver. MV for Mihotose no Komori-Uta 2019′s character singles “Kodou” has been released! It will also be available on Toumyu’s Fansite, under the ‘PV’ section, in full! :D The full version of the MV will be released on September 4th on Toumyu’s Fansite, which is the release day for the character singles, and only premium members can access it.
