look they were never ever going to win casting someone who does not have a gorgeous rich baritone voice in a renowned gorgeous rich baritone role. nothing that man could do would ever get a majority of viewers saying wow, what an amazing javert, because they just cast somebody with fundamentally the wrong voice type and that is, of course, most obvious in stars. and here's the thing: i actually don't care. there are a billion different versions of stars i can listen to if i want to hear it sung as god and claude-michel schoenberg intended. that's not what i'm there for if i'm watching les mis 2012. russell crowe brings something different to the table, i love his acting in the role, and even if his stars is not the vocal masterpiece of the century or even the vocal masterpiece of that specific week in december 2012, i don't care, because at least it's just kind of meh and not actively aggravating to my ears unlike some other vocal performances i could mention in that movie (cough. bring him home)

Oh, Remus. My specialist boy. There's so many different versions of Remus in my brain, so this was tough.

Remus is someone who has gone through unimaginable horrors and yet he still comes out the other side being inexplicably kind. Like yes, he can be sarcastic, have a biting wit, but he cares so deeply about his friends and the world. He's gentle in a way you wouldn't necessarily expect him to be.

I feel like he's funny, in ways you also might not expect. He's the strong, silent type a lot of the time, but then will come out with something so out of left field you can't help but to burst out laughing or be charmed. He swears like a sailor (fuck is like a brother to him). He's the type of person to have a hidden tattoo of like, an anarchy symbol or something and you see it and are just like...really? That guy?

I think he loves punk music and 70s rock. He's enjoys dancing around his kitchen to Janelle Monae and Motown.

I love my Remus cosy. He's a sleepy pisces at heart and wears warm sweaters (with band shirts underneath), even when it's sweltering outside. That man is always cold.

I think at the heart of him he's brave, but he gets in his own way a lot of the time. Doesn't necessarily believe he deserves the good things, or is afraid to get them. He's anxious. He still gets up every day though and does his best, and that's it's own kind of bravery.

Physically, I usually picture him lanky with big (sexy) hands and curly dark hair. I like when fics somehow find a way to work in his scars. I like that he's maybe not conventionally attractive, but to certain people (Sirius) he's fucking stunning. He has a truly beautiful smile.

He wears reading glasses. He knows how to play piano. He loves cats and dogs equally. He reads torrid romance novels and poetry. After Sirius, Lily is the person who knows him best in the world. He secretly loves camping, and the sun always brings out his freckles. He has lovely moles scattered about his body. He loves the ocean. He has a chronic illness. He simultaneously feels like he belongs everywhere and nowhere at all.

OVERRATED

before people come to me with pitchforks I WILL PREFACE THIS by saying that classic russian literature gives me ptsd from having to extensively study it in school. i was not fond of it then, although it changed now, after so many years BUT not with all the books.

Anna Karenina is one of them. had to read it through greeted teeth. Tolstoy has a very peculiar way of telling a story and I could never enjoy it (not with War and Peace and his other notable works). I was like Anna, homegirl.... what are you doing...

the story itself is pretty accurate to the times but to me it always felt so convoluted, drawn out. Maybe some of the themes explored in the book (like cheating) hit too close to home. Maybe I hated the book because of the fucking ESSAYS we had to write. god, none of it was fun.

but if you ask me, gun to my head? pull the trigger, I will not be torturing myself with that story. there are other books from classic russian lit that brought me more joy than this one lmao. I feel like if you really want to it's worth finishing it but I fear you might end up saying "i ain't touching that ever again" ahahha

I can't speak on how eddie feels about getting a medal from the LAFD because we haven't seen him get it yet, so I'm going to focus my answer on the silver star.

Eddie's emotions about receiving the Silver Star are tied to his feelings about his military service. In his conversation with Buck in 2x10 (the Christmas episode) Eddie compares signing up for a second military tour to Shannon leaving him and Christopher. He characterizes it as him running out on them but "I got to pretend like it was for a noble cause" (28:44*). Eddie associates his time in the military with negative feelings of guilt and shame, not pride. Eddie's Silver Star is a physical manifestation of this dilemma because it validates his service to others as heroic when he views it as an example of how he has failed as a husband and a father.

Besides being shown holding it in 5x13, I don't think Eddie's Silver Star was actually brought up in S5b, so this is just conjecture, but I think Eddie's disdain for his Silver Star has only grown over time. In 5x13, Eddie learns that everyone he pulled out of the chopper in Afghanistan died and wrecks his bedroom. In the following episode, we see Eddie at his lowest. He is questioning his worth, the value of his job, if he has ever been able to help anyone, or if it has all been down to luck or chance. Eddie expresses this doubt to Buck asking, "What's the point of it all?" (29:51). At the end of the episode, Buck takes him to see Charlie, showing him that his actions do help people and he explains that perhaps the point is giving them a second chance to live. However, this conversation is tailored to what he has done as a firefighter, not in the army. While Charlie is thriving after Eddie helped him, his army friends are dead. Sure, I think that therapy has helped Eddie feel less survivor's guilt, but now Eddie's silver star carries the additional weight of knowing that he's the only person in that chopper still living.

Now onto the spec. There are a couple ways Eddie could feel about receiving that award. Maybe after experiencing the growth he did in S5b, he will feel the pride of being recognized. Maybe he will feel derisive about receiving an award from the fire chief who didn't listen to Hen and tried to prevent them from helping Bobby and Athena. Maybe his feelings about it will be more in line with Bobby's, refusing to see himself as a hero. It will probably be the first option, but I honestly don't think the show will touch on Eddie's feelings about it because this is Bobby's arc.

flawless musical in its raw state but my god is it hard to actually get right. some people were just not put into this world to direct productions of spring awakening and i think it should be more socially acceptable to admit that. as i just said the existing text is already perfect. you do not need to add anything. don't throw in a random ensemble who do nothing but clog up the stage and the story, don't add in random and tonally incongruous scene change music, almeida spring awakening i love you so very much but that spoken word interlude in totally fucked did not need to be there... on the other hand i think the reason deaf west spring awakening was so ingenious and effective was because michael arden did something completely new and fresh with it but didn't change the fucking text and everything he did add or tweak (apart from melitta. i'm sorry girlie but who are you!!!) was in a way that was directly informed by and in conversation with the original play (for example: deciding which characters would be deaf, the actor/voice duality reflecting the existing duality between scene world and song world, even the rigidity of the school system and the tiny details therein, down to moritz getting his latin recitation wrong, being turned into a commentary on oralism in deaf education) instead of just adding things seemingly for the sake of Doing A New Fresh Spring Awakening, which is what a lot of directors seem to do

the blorbo of all time, today I was thinking about how I need to interview some of the customer service type folks on my work team and "what's one thing you'd change around here if you could" just popped into my head fully formed (I'm doubting that I will hear back about having a flag, but who the hell knows)

I love when he's earnest and when he's bitchy and when his plans are half-assed and when they're quite clever, actually. one of my very oldest friends messaged me the second he finished 1x5 to say he understood why I'd gone insane for this show, and has teased me on multiple occasions with "just having a real normal one with my very good friend".

he has enormous blind spots but he keeps trying, he is genuinely motivated by kindness even when it doesn't quite land or when he's too blinded by the Ed of it all. he's so insecure and then when he really feels in himself properly it's like taking a deep breath. (see gif above)

that being said i did just read about the 1967 Lake Erie skydiving disaster where eighteen skydivers mistakenly parachuted into Lake Erie because the plane got lost and there was too much cloud cover to see the ground when they jumped??? and after that they invented "look to see if you're over ground before jumping"

Stardew Valley!

Stardew Valley, in my humble opinion, is tons of fun! It's a farming sim that does basically quite literally everything you could want it to do and more. The music is fantastic, as well, just as an aside. There's low-key dungeon crawling, there's farming, there's livestock, there's ways for you to make artisan goods, there's exploring, there's collecting/foraging, fishing mini games, tons and tons and tons of sidequests, and generally (especially for a new player) content that will last you YEARS.

It is one of the most chill, happy peaceful vibe games that exists out there.

It's definitely not for everyone - you have to be into that sort of game or it can potentially be a bit 'boring' I guess? But mods do spice things up a bit if you play on PC. And you can play the game ANY way you want with no rules, and cater to the experience you personally want to have.

It's groundbreaking - especially for a game that costs like, what, $12 US? It has more content (that gets updated with free add-ons and shit) than most games people pay $70+ USD for. I think one of my files has like 890 hours on it -hides face- but it's a great anxiety relief game. It's so cute. The relationships are complex and adorable. When you finally get to the point of marrying a spouse it gets a little dull, because the spouses don't do much once you're married to them, but the chase of the relationship is a lot of fun and the little "heart event scenes" are really cute. I think you get one every 2 hearts you grow with a character?

But yeah the basis is your grandfather has passed and left you his entire farm and his little cabin. You come to Stardew Valley and reclaim this overrun land and make a bangin' farm (if you want to) and make grandpa proud.

I highly recommend it if this type of game is your style. There are so many things to say about stardew that I can't physically put them all into one post, but it's a lot of fun.
