Families requesting to visit relatives is not exactly unheard of, although not nearly as common as the worst rumors about the Jedi imply.

It’s just, usually that’s parents, sometimes with a sibling in tow. There are policies in place, lines to fall back on.

Perhaps they should have realized Initiate Kenobi made an impression.

And friends, apparently, tiny little Mandalorian friends.

Tiny little Mandalorian friends gearing up to fight him over visitation rights.

He sighs, mourning the lovely tea he had planned with his padawan. 

“I’m sure something can be arranged.”

A preview from the second to last chapter of a risky scheme from my senatorial missteps and mandalorian mishaps series. Jaster talks to the Trade Federation again.

Lott Dod takes a breath and steps forward. “Mand’alor Mereel, you have a truly impressive city.” He begins. Jaster resists the urge to sigh. He much prefers his council meetings to this blatant flattery. He should remember that the next time Clan Vizsla’s head calls him a fool and an idiot for the crime of agreeing with Clan Kryze on some minor issue.  They would never call Keldabe an impressive city, they would certainly never call it his.

This is from pretty far into the next update of senatorial missteps and mandalorian mishaps and it's also the only thing I can come up with at the moment that doesn't spoil the characters I'm introducing.

“Jaster.” A memory springs to mind of a much younger Arla, literally digging in her heels and jutting out her chin and insisting that she would have her way. It shouldn’t have been that cute on a young teenager but… they do say that a parent never quite loses their memory for how precious and small their child used to be. Even if, as in Jaster’s case, he never knew Arla as a true child. “Arla.” He returns, a small amused smile tugging at his lips.

I'm working on another senatorial missteps and mandalorian mishaps. I love being able to focus on different characters with this series and play around with slightly different tones and genres depending on the part I'm writing. This time we're going for some political intrigue and satisfying some of my recent desire to write an adult padawan living their best life and being competent.

Adi Gallia is learning Mando’a as fast as she can, through datapads and immersion and sheer force of will. Coruscant is gone and her dreams of an intelligence network spanning the planet are gone with it. Mandalore is new and uncertain and surprisingly kind and her plans will adjust to it. Adi spent a long time uncertain of her path forward as a Knight. She is certain now. The pursuit of knowledge will be her future, not as an archivist but as a diplomat.

Hi! I’m working on another senatorial missteps and mandalorian mishaps! Meet my Mandalorian gremlin babies!

He gestures and three Tholothian children step forward and stare, unblinkingly, up at Mace.

“Uh…” Myles places a hand on one of their heads and gently tips their head back so he can see their face better. “So, this one’s Haat…” He mutters something suspiciously close to probably under his breath and moves to the next child. “Ijaa and… that makes you… Haa’it.” Haa’it sticks their tongue out at him and he sighs.

“Traditionalists, honestly.” Ijaa kicks him in the shin, Haat says something probably meant to be insulting. “Knock that off, you wanted to come.”

As it turns out, I am incapable of making the Jedi leave the Republic without getting a little sad about it. Have a preview of the next part of senatorial missteps and mandalorian mishaps. It's time to say goodbye.

The Temple is her home. She is not mistaken in thinking she might never see it again. Jocasta Nu is a Jedi, she will do what she must. Coruscant is a place, like so many others. It is not the end. But… it is an end.

Six Sentence Sunday

Another preview of my upcoming update to senatorial missteps and mandalorian mishaps. Someone's made their way to Mandalore and Adi's got a mission.

Silas whispers tips and instructions as they walk. Where to go, what to say, how to hide but Adi is not worried. The Force will guide her. She only has to trust. She takes a deep breath outside the chamber and nods to Silas that she is ready. Mandalorians do not bow, instead Adi inclines her head slightly in the way she has observed is common.  “Welcome to Mandalore.” She says. “May your stay be fruitful.”

Something I'm having fun with as I work on this latest WIP is adding references to countless made up wars from Mandalorian history. What's that? Why it's the second battle of Keldabe obviously, the one from the Third Great Civil War period. Not to be confused with the second battle of Keldabe before the Sith Wars. You cannot tell me being into Mandalorian war history isn't an absolute nightmare in universe (and also, let's be real, probably a bit of a red flag).

Trivia Tuesday

Hello! I’ve been writing fanfiction again for a little over a year and in that time I’ve published almost 60 works! So, I thought it would be fun this Trivia Tuesday to look back on the ones that faced at least one complete rewrite before publishing!

The List:

Midnight: Accidental Unofficial Queer Counselor (BNHA) - This one was technically reworked twice, I got a few paragraphs in before I realized the original idea (Yaoyorozu dealing with her feelings about her costume and being sexualized) was quickly turning into a consideration of religious trauma that Yaoyorozu literally does not have. I made a full switch to 1-A centric and was close to scrapping the entire concept but I really liked the Todoroki bit. I rewrote the entire thing to be an expansion of that bit and I’m genuinely happy with how it turned out.

Tomura Terrorizes Japan and Ruins his Reputation (BNHA) - The bare bones of the plot stayed the same from the first draft but I rewrote the entire thing to change the POV and heavily dramatize.

Chapter 5 of Failed Hunts and Little Stowaways (Star Wars) - This one technically had 3 versions which I like to lovingly call... Version 1: Basic Idea on Paper, version 2: Wow, This Jango is Mean and Unrealistically Dense, and version 3: Alright, Actively Cruel Jango Has Been Contained.

Rumi Plans a Double Date, the Todorokis Get Distracted (BNHA) - The Dabi reveal (also known as most of it) went through multiple complete rewrites.

Shereshoy. (Star Wars) - Rewritten completely for mood consistency, more romance, tense change and a pov switch.

a great shattering (Star Wars) - The only thing remaining from the original draft is most of the dialogue. The original vibes were very different and it contained, of all things, adorable teenage romance. It was also originally from Bail Organa’s pov.

I’ve run out of one shots to promote on Sundays so I’m moving on to my WIPs! It’s another senatorial missteps and mandalorian mishaps! We have the Jedi’s confrontation with the Senate to look forward to!

For some, their conditions are terrible, nearly unbearable.

For others, their lives continue in stability, if not comfort.

For yet others, the status quo suits them very well.

There is nothing to be done regardless.

The Senate is corrupt and there is snow on the mountains of Alderaan.

It is in their nature.
