countless iconic members of indie girlbands were tragically lost to history by being born decades or centuries or even millenia before indie girlbands were a gleam in gods eye

Thursday, March 21.
Ten years of Going to Hell.
Cometh the hour, cometh the return of the Tumblr girl. It's the talk of the town. It's so hot right now. Return of the Tumblr girl. So hot.
Everyone is talking about it because, and there's no doubt about it, 2014 Tumblr is back in a big way. Some folk ask if we remember her bedroom (it's never changed.) Others claim that there is more to her outfit than meets the eye. Y'all are real enigmas—yet the internet can't stop talking about you. So mysterious. So hot.
Well, it looks like Tumblr girls of all stripes are going to need their essentials: their string of fairy lights, their neon and/or pastel hair, their Doc Martens, their fishnet tights, and, of course, their copies of The Pretty Reckless' seminal second album Going to Hell. It has just turned ten this past week, and it seems celebrations are in order. The band has shared this little note, for starters, and say that they love you all. Which is just really, really nice.

Otis Redding - Cigarettes and Coffee 1966
Otis Ray Redding Jr. was an American singer and songwriter. He is regarded as one of the greatest singer-songwriters in the history of American popular music and a seminal artist in soul music and rhythm and blues. Nicknamed the "King of Soul", Redding's style of singing gained inspiration from the gospel music that preceded the genre. His singing style influenced many other soul artists of the 1960s. Redding received many posthumous accolades, including two Grammy Awards, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The Soul Album (1966) was his fourth studio album. It features Redding performing songs that he co-wrote, as well as covers of songs by such musicians as Sam Cooke, Eddie Floyd, Roy Head, and Smokey Robinson. Guitarist Steve Cropper contributed guitar on the album, and is also credited as the co-author of three tracks.
The Soul Album entered the Billboard LP charts upon its release in April 1966, and made the Hot 100 chart in June. The album peaked at number 54 in July, and remained among the 100 best-selling albums until autumn. It spent 28 weeks on the US R&B albums chart, peaking at number 3, and reached number 58 on the US pop and rock charts.
"Cigarettes and Coffee" received a total of 65,9% yes votes!

Nine Inch Nails The Fragile released 25 years ago today. Here’s a 1999 digital camera photodump from the months surrounding the album’s release; a surreal, transformative time in my young life. Words can’t describe what it was like, but these photos and textures bring back the strangest hazy memories that feel like a dream: Not even a year out of high school, moving to New Orleans to work for my heroes as they were in the final year of recording a dense, challenging masterpiece of an album. Not everyone was ready for The Fragile at the time, but it now stands as one of the seminal works of pre-millennium art. If you’ve never experienced it, or haven’t in a while, it deserves a focused, solitary beginning-to-end listening in the highest fidelity, on your best sound system, at the loudest volume.
