Drive to Sabi River Sun Resort

Surrounded by many spectacular tourists attractions and awesome wild live we were stoked to have been invited to such an awesome nature filled place, thank you to my dear friend and client Engela and her Daughter.

Figuring out it was about 400 kilometres from home base, travel time to the stunning Sabi River Sun Resort would then be 4 hours and 19 min as per google maps that is. An awesome drive for the Subaru we thought as my car is… well… not quite the long distance type, yet.

We stopped at about 3 filling station each was colder than the next, purely because the weather was overcast. I personally was thankful for this because myself and heat don’t quite go well together. At one filling station we stopped at they had the nicest little restaurant and shop. Were we took photographs of Monkey.

We passed brats and the Fo Guang Shan, Nan Hua Temple one of my spots I have yet to visit as well as whole load of filling stations, spa’s, B&B’s and probably a bunch of other things I did not notice.

We were singing to great golden oldies rock and alternative music as well as music from the 50s, 60s 70s and 80s.

The drive was awesome loads of trees and places to see. We drove past the Joubert en Seuns, on the R539 | N4 Alernative, Schoemanskloof, Nelspruit 1200, South Africa if you want to have a look and pop in at their Fresh fruit ‘Padstal’. They sure have the monopoly in that area; we were pleasantly surprised by the well kept land and the care that has been taken to provide such a high quality product.

Amazing sights from open landscapes to wonderfully stunning trees met our gaze as the overcast clouds lifter a bit here and there through the scenic rout. this would brighten our mood for a quick game of I Spy and then we would go back into the cloud.

I took a number of pictures from here to there but mostly I remember the amount of fun we had as a family driving to our destination. We made our last stop at a filling station not for the car but for ourselves to stretch and freshen up. The air was much cleaner than in Pretoria and the people were so calm and very friendly. 

I found myself staring at the stalls on the side of the road, hung with fruit and nuts that the people selling them has collected earlier that week; even they had some form of stillness to them. The cars all drive at a speedy pace but not one of them incompetent, it felt like I was watching a ballet performance but with cars, everyone here are so, different.

We drove past many plantations for Sapi it was sad to imagine that those stunning beauties will one day be cut down to thin sheets of paper, but its like they knew that is what they were to become. I took a few photos as we drove of the trees and the scenery. 

We arrived alas at this stunning place of rest and sleep I thought. Large walls at the entrance with the name Sabi River Sun Resort was written in black. Driving through to the reception you get the feel of class and luxury. Our place was not yet ready and so we hung out at the Club House and had awesome Pizza and Soda. Yes their pizza was really amazingly awesome very flavourful.

After that we set the monkey loose to go wild, he rand and ran and ran. As he was doing his thing we spotted a great program for the family written on a white board very colourful and eventful. 

Eventually at around two we were permitted to enter chalet 4, what a cool homie feel it had there was little I could change. Th kitchen was big enough, there was a large television we had no use for and the  rooms oh how nice. The beds were made with White linen and bright green throws, Duck feather pillows and blankets gracefully placed and made. Very neat. We unpacked and decided to explore the space we found ourselves in. We took a walk right around the gold course and to the watering hole, look out point and then back to the chalet. Lush green grass and green, stunning wild birds, hippopotamus and crocodile.

I felt so relaxed once we were settled all I wanted to do was sleep, we stayed awake till about 11:00 PM “braaing” and chatting.

Durban

Driving through South Africa was marvelous. Parts reminded me of Kansas but more often, I felt like I was in the Dakotas or Kentucky or New Mexico. Peter explained historical sites as we passed through. Then I met up with Reg and Cynthia. They are OM missionaries from South Africa. Reg is a retired pastor and, as they were going from Pretoria to Durban for a meeting, they met with Peter and I about half way and invited me to join and continue to Durban with them. The connections here are amazing!. That allowed Peter to continue south to pick up his son while Reg and Cynthia explained even more history and geography. When we arrived at Joy and Dave's house, I was welcomed by an amazing display of keepsakes from their childhood years in Papua New Guinea, as well as their mission trips throughout the world. My connection to Dave and Joy is through Abby, who served on the ship, Doulos, with them. Abby was also my connection to Michelle and Peter at Pasture Valley. What a great and interesting group of people these are. Durban is picturesque, with houses on multiple hills throughout the city. The houses are unique, comprising multiple levels, balconies, and frequently, pools. Passion fruit, papayas, pineapple, and mangoes grow in gardens, along with flowers that we must protect in our homes. Tropical areas are so colorful and lovely. Last evening, we joined a Bible study/small group. The home was on many levels, having a hanging pool on the veranda. Since the hills are so steep here, every home is built in a similar way. A journalist was part of the group. Her stories were fascinating. As well, were teachers, a pastor a student, and business individuals. All were chatty, welcoming, and filled with stories. We prayed for a woman who has begun a business of making school uniforms (all of southern Today, I will visit a school, a private school for handicapped children, and (hopefully) see the Indian Ocean. By staying longer at Pasture Valley, I did cut my visit here as my ticket to Cape Town has already been purchased. Thus, I must return one day. This morning, I am sitting on the veranda, watching the Indian children load up and head to school. There is a very large Indian population here, so Mosques, Hindu Temples, and churches abound. Hey! I just learned a great new discovery - missionary frothed milk for coffee or tea. Joy uses the plunger from a broken plunge pot to froth milk in a cup. It is faster and better than a blender. Isn't that a cool idea? Some entrepreneur should process those and sell them in coffee shops. Birds are chirping, sun is up, and I am off to experience new adventures. How God is blessing me on this trip! My eyes and mind are overworking at the sights, sounds, and beauty that surrounds me.

Call to ‘thoroughly’ probe Jabu Mabuza

Johannesburg - Former Eskom board chairperson Jabu Mabuza's woes may be far from over as some senior ANC members gun for him over the recent load shedding in the country.

It is believed that one of the resolutions that emerged out of the ANC's two-day lekgotla is for "thorough" investigations to be conducted into Mabuza who tendered his resignation early this month.

His resignation followed remarks by Deputy President David Mabuza that Eskom had misled President Cyril Ramaphosa about the real extent of troubles at the power utility.

“The news that up to R11billion (in a boiler tube maintenance contract) was linked to Mabuza's family comes as a shock. Some of us believe that he has completed what he came to do at Eskom. That's why he resigned,” an insider said.

It's unclear how the probe will be undertaken.

Ramaphosa said the meeting resolved, among other things, that the commercial and developmental mandate of the SOEs should be clearly outlined, saying greater attention should be focused on ensuring that they were efficient and functional.

“The lekgotla also resolved that fit and proper people should be appointed to hold senior positions in state-owned enterprises.

“We took the view that there is a plethora of SOEs, more than 740 of them. There will be a need to rationalise some of them,” he said.

He added: “The lekgotla also agreed that there should be no political interference in the affairs of the state-owned enterprises unless it is for strategic reasons or there is rampant mismanagement of public funds and corruption in these entities.”

In his address, Ramaphosa made no mention about the future of Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan despite calls from certain sections of ANC for Gordhan to be axed.

But, according to Ramaphosa, his party’s two gatherings – the ANC NEC meeting and the lekgotla – did not experience any incidents of political disagreements, walkouts as predicted by “people outside” the ANC.

In another hard-hitting remark, Ramaphosa also warned that his government would not tolerate people and institutions that avoided paying tax, including the illicit cash flow out of the borders of South Africa.

He also had a surprise package for ANC members who were earmarked to be party candidates ahead of the 2021 local government elections. Ramaphosa said his party was going to set standards for party members to qualify as candidates – one of the requirements, he outlined was a minimum “qualification”.

He fell short of saying academic qualification but insiders said that the ANC would now prefer academic qualifications. They said poor performance in ANC-run municipalities was due to the deployment of people with little or no skills in public administration.
