How I look on my 49th birthday. Nearly lost the sun on this one. A little over a decade ago I noticed something about my late teens and most of my 20s. I had almost no pictures of myself. Just a giant gap in #photographic history.

To some degree it was due to my focus on #recovery. To a greater degree it was about #highfalutin’ principles. But either way, I had so few images that showed what I was like from about 15 through to 30. I mean, there are some, but not as many as would illustrate the stories and adventures I would experience. In my 30s I did what I could to be open to photos. Bit by bit I realized it can be fun and also helps me do what I love to do most: tell stories. So, roughly around my 38th birthday (I think) I decided to take pictures of myself on my birthday. Just so I have them. #Selfportraits to document the passing of my “middle years” as I head towards the big goal of 121 years old. (I’ll settle for 111, but let’s not spread that around.) I’ve been snapping on November 2, #DiosdeLosMuertoes, The Gate Of Transformation, #AllSoulsDay, ever since. 
This year’s shits didn’t come out as great as some years (again, I was rushing to get those last bits of early November daylight). But I nabbed them. #Personaltradition done and checked off. Runny nose, shivering fingers, and curly-cue #mustache, and all, I caught them. Celebrate time. It won’t be bothered to stop and celebrate you. But don’t hold resentment. Just celebrate time, and maybe it will at least slow down a little. 
Or at least seem to.
