Any thoughts on the Korone DLC for Frontiers that was exclusive to pre-orders in Japan?

It's fun that she got to be the Sonic ambassador for Japan and in general Korone is one of the few vtubers I've generally liked. That's not to throw shade at anyone else, but most of them are aimed at a demographic I am not, especially if we get into the realm of like, professional vtubers, run by talent agencies and stuff like that.

But Korone is cute and seems to venture outside of the comfort zone of what you'd normally think of as "a cute anime girl plays video games." That's probably why she became the Sonic ambassador in Japan, right? Horizons are being broadened.

As for the DLC itself, eh, whatever. It's some different color shoes and some Koco reskins, right? It's very minor, but Sega is inching very slowly into the world of letting Sonic wear cosmetics, I feel. Most of the other cosmetics in Frontiers aren't very interesting, either. I'm not losing sleep over the Korone cosmetics being Japan-exclusive, if that's what you're wondering.

one thing that bothers me us how inconsistent Sonic's character can be, Sonic Team sees over the work idw does and approve it, sell it in Japan and promote it at the Japanese Sega club days then they refer to Sonic prime as canon where Sonic acts like a nine year old. They promote the movies and let Paramount do whatever they want its like they stopped giving a shit. I miss the Sonic X days where atleast his character in Japanese was consistent and canon.

Well, you gotta remember that Sonic is, among other things, a brand. A product that needs to be sold. Sega wants the fandom's money, so they'll follow it wherever it's at. They're not above distorting brand image to appeal to normies and fans who want to change Sonic into something completely different.

If the consumer base decrees that they want Sonic to be a superhero, by hook or by crook, Sonic is going to don that cape.

(...In adaptations and spinoffs. ST maintains a higher standard of quality for the games. I might have my gripes with Frontiers, but Sonic's characterization is not one of them.)

What people portray as "Sonic Team's oversight" or "seal of approval" of the IDW book is likely someone at SoJ giving the script a quick glance and deciding it's okay enough to publish.

Not that it's quality. That it passes the vaguest of vibe checks. Getting a C on your test means you passed the test, technically, but that doesn't make you an honor roll student.

Likewise, just because someone manning the phones at Sega says "welp, I don't see Sonic taking a fat rip on that bong, all clear buddy" doesn't mean IDW!Sonic is suddenly a good and game-faithful portrayal. Especially since Flynn has stated that he has more creative freedom with Sonic and Eggman.

Frankly, it's kind of laughable that people genuinely think ST themselves oversee the book's quality when

A.) the bulk of that job ought to be left to editorial (who are asleep at the wheel half the time, what with all the amateur writing and SPAG errors that manage to slip through)

and B.) ST are busy with their own shit? Vtuber Sonic? Sonic Channel stories? Promo-ing with Korone-chan? Developing video games? You think they've got time to pore over every intricacy of a licensed book that they receive no revenue for?

Can't speak for Prime, but the films are essentially another means of getting one foot in the door. They kind of inherently have to appeal to normies and their erroneous conceptions of Sonic so as to introduce new fans to the series.

A look at the Sonic Superstars exclusive and deluxe purchase bonuses in Japan

SEGA has updated the official Japanese website for Sonic Superstars with previews of exclusive purchase bonuses that come with buying the game on various storefronts.

Cel-shaded skins of Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles

These "comic-style" downloadable skins have a unique cel-shaded and outlined look, and are exclusively available as a purchase bonus if the game is bought from Amazon's Japanese storefront.

Meanwhile, the skin was quietly teased on an American grocer's rewards program. No word if the program obtained exclusivity rights in the United States, but it suggests that cell-shaded skins will make its debut outside Japan.

SEGA's official online storefront in Japan is advertising a new deluxe pack for Superstars. It will feature ink wash-inspired art of the Superstars cast printed on a hanging scroll, multiple acrylic figures, and wall stickers.

In addition to Amazon Japan, exclusive purchase bonuses from select Japanese retailers included keychain collectables, posters, and more.

Into, Across and Beyond!: Quill Society Membership Rules

So I'm gonna do a small lore dump for IAB! here, discussing about how the Quill Society handles recruiting new candidates. As the hints have implied here and there, compared to the Funkin' Society and the Spider-Society, a member doesn't have to solely be focused around individual Sonics to be a member.

As you've seen, the members in the Quill Society are very diverse in their styles and types, such as counterparts of Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Cream and Shadow all being present around the place. This also applies to numerous fan-made characters, such as Millie, Milly Prower, SunFIRE and Creamy, having roles due to their appearances and endeavours.

For one reason or another, the Quill Society has even brought in beta characters and/or glitch entities as members (examples of these including Boomer the Turtle, Ashura and Bluckles), alongside figures like Lord Mortis (a redeemed X from another timeline) and Socket/Minute (the character whose game was called a Sonic knockoff).

However, you may have also noticed that there are characters not explicitly made by SEGA that have appeared in the Society's recruit list. Well, there's a good reason for it. If a potential candidate's backstory (or a special event) has enough involvement from somebody who is a SEGA character, then the Quill Society will extend their hand to them in spite of those differences. As specific examples go:

Friday Night Funkin':

Benjamin has Hatsune Miku, a vocaloid owned by SEGA in the real world, as his big sister.

Kenji Tensei (the Boyfriend from HoloFunk Pre-6.0) was once employed by Kazuma Kiryu from Like a Dragon, and his cousin is the co-worker and best friend of Kiryu's pupils. Both the girls in question are co-workers with Korone Inugami, who is the current brand administrator for Sonic as a franchise. And in general, Kenji's world's darker writing is full of homages to Like a Dragon.

In the case of Aloe Mano (her counterpart from HoloFunk), while the Like a Dragon aspects are gone, she's still an alumni of Korone's company, and the two were pitted against each other in the final fight of the mod's 6.0 release. And it's likely that she's not beholden to the same busy schedules and bigger fish to fry like the rest of her world's main cast.

Others:

Carol and Blitz!Milla showing up in the Quill Society is because of Freedom Planet starting out as a Sonic fan game before it expanded into a full-fledged indie game (a nod to this being in Hedgelac's appearance). For Blitz!Milla, it helps that she also comes from a crossover fanfic that her boyfriend (Blitz!Tails) also stars in.

The Aladdin and Woody that survived Respiro's wrath don't have any ties to SEGA on their own (their tales instead animated by Disney), but since Respiro went and attacked a Sonic world before trying to destroy everything using Oldum's body, Blaze serves as the Sonic representative of their team, and thus granting the pair clearance for candidacy. Out-of-universe, both also have video games on the SEGA Genesis adapting their first films.

Red, one of the major characters seen in the Angry Birds franchise, was made by Rovio, a company initially independent of SEGA. Though he was made a SEGA character after the company purchased the rights to the series.

Ninjala, itself an indie game, had a Sonic crossover event in its early points that allowed players to purchase Sonic-themed cosmetics to add to their avatar, so in turn, any of the ninja from that game can be considered a candidate, considering their own schedules at WNA aren't keeping them too busy.

In the case of those who aren't capable fighters, the Quill Society is simply otherwise a hub where they can interact with others in a friendly social setting. Though Lofi Girl had the collab with SEGA and Alien: Isolation recently, she's got her usual studies booked in (same with Synthwave Boy and his programming) and might not be able to be there outside of the odd break. Lofi BF and Lofi GF might also be candidates with this in mind, but the revamped Funkin' Society in the aftermath of The X's defeat calls to them more due to it simply being a social hub and not a strike force anymore.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Pack Wave 2!

That's right everyone, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wave 2 is FINALLY here! I'm so happy with the courses!

Sana is graduating......

At the end of the month, July 31st, Sana will be graduating from Hololive. I woke up seeing people wishing her well and I had no idea why people were doing that...until I read she was graduating. It really hurt since I really loved Sana.

She was also the first person I drew in my sketchbook so I'm so happy I did. I'll really miss her, and I wish all the best for her in her future endeavors!

I was watching the Sonic Station live with my limited Japanese while not doing my work to see this surprise! I always watch the Sonic Stations when Korone is there (*´▽`*)

She has a new Sonic outfit with green eyes and blue hair! She is also holding a cute Knuckles plush. I was so surprised to see it you know, I didn't think she would have a whole new outfit! It looks so good on her, would wear it 100% in real life.

She's truly going places~

Maybe it's just me but I haven't personally heard people putting Naka on blast nearly as much as Kishimoto and Iizuka.

I still remember when Tumblr made fun of Kishimoto for being "mentally ill" because he admitted to "hearing" Sonic's character voice in an interview for SatBK. Not to mention that one fan who expressed a desire to "stick Iizuka's head on a pike" and bomb Sega HQ in Tokyo because of their belief that Sega's "mandates" were preventing Boom's writers from developing Shadow.

In all my time on Sonic Tumblr, I have only heard people speak positively of ST maybe a handful of times. There was the stuff with Korone-chan which was wholesome, but otherwise... It's kind of radio silent around here. The mocking far outweighs the praise, and whenever things go pear-shaped with IDW, folks are lightning-quick to point the finger at Sega while absolving the IDW staff.

I suspect the reasons for this are IDW's lack of language and cultural barrier, as well as their closer proximity to the Western side of fandom; they seem more invested in cultivating parasocial relationships than ST, in being accessible and seen as "one of us."

We always hear about how Naka's a dickhead - and certainly, there's a time and place for that discussion - but I can't help but notice what gets omitted from the discussion as well. Nobody mentions former Sega chairman Isao Okawa, who saved the series by investing his own money in the failing Dreamcast due to his sheer belief in the console, all while sick. I learned that from a YouTube video.

He is a serious inspiration, and it lowkey saddens me how his story isn't more widely-known.

Yuji Naka being a more talented man doesn't mean he has always been professional because he hasn't. Not even recently with staff members of Wonderworld comming out with stories of him being abusive and unreasonbale towards his staff. Yuji Naka telling people that they should stop praising Naoto for the creation of Sonic due to his fight with him and say what you want about the idw staff. But they are not the ones with criminal charges.

I'll admit that his actions regarding Ohshima were petty and that he was pretty hard to work with. But that doesn't really undermine his talents and achievements.

Do the credits for the movie say which character is voiced by Korone Inugami? The only female voices not from the first movie I can think of are the GUN agent and Eggman's GPS in the temple.
