Der Fluch

Ich verstehe es nicht, ich werde es nie verstehen: Ich habe in meinem ganzen Leben noch keine Robbe am Strand gesehen. Keine Seekuh, keinen Seelöwen, kein Walross. Nichts dergleichen. Heute also, nach den vollmundigen Versprechen der Menschen um mich herum ging ich auf meine große Solo-Safari. Wie schwer konnte es sein, an einem Hafen, in dem die Fischreste einfach ins Wasser geworfen werden? Sehr! Welche Wildtiere habe ich nicht schon gesehen? Leoparden, Löwen, Giraffen, Flamingos, Eisvögel. Heute habe ich Pelikane beim Fischen beobachtet.

Ist es denn zu viel verlangt, einmal eine Robbe zu sehen? Ich fragte einen Wasser-Polizisten. Dieser nutzte nach langen Erklärungen seine Übersetzungsapp, um mir folgenden Satz unter die Nase zu halten: „Just look everywhere“. Danke.

Dass er überhaupt wusste, was ich meinte, möchte ich an dieser Stelle hervorheben, denn meine spanische Beschreibung war nicht unbedingt eindeutig: „Hallo, ich suche ein Tier. Ein großes Tier. Ich kenne den Namen nicht. Es isst gerne Fisch.“

Glücklicherweise, wie so oft, wenn mich meine Verbissenheit nicht ans Ziel bringt, konnte ich dennoch die Augen für meine Umgebung öffnen und erkennen, dass mir Arica wider Erwarten ziemlich gut gefällt! So konnte ich neben Pelikanen auch Horden an Seeadlern bei der Jagd beobachten, aber auch schöne Felsen sehen und eine lebendige Stadt erleben. Es wurde musiziert, geskatet und verkauft was das Zeug hält - ganz anders, als viele Reiseberichte erahnen ließen, die von Schmutz, toten Tieren und Drogenmissbrauch berichteten. Das ist das Schöne an nicht so hohen Erwartungen, meist werden sie übertroffen. Mittlerweile sitze ich am Flughafen und warte auf meinen Flieger nach Santiago. Das wird sicher nochmal ein Höllenritt - um eins losfliegen und um halb fünf ankommen. Ein Hostel habe ich aber schon gebucht, mittlerweile bin ich auch gut darin, eigenständig von A nach B zu kommen. Wenn ich ab dem 27. mit Leuten rumhänge, die ich aus Lima kenne, lerne ich bestimmt nochmal Sachen kennen, die ich mir vorher nicht erarbeiten konnte. Darauf freue ich mich.
