yes i am the biggest advocate of surrogate father haymitch & adopted daughter katniss but like. they're so Awful. they've not got a mother/daughter relationship, they've got that father/daughter relationship where the dad is both reaching for a connection and rejecting the thing that he made because she's too much like him, too close to what he is and far away from it because of her potential and the daughter rejects because she doesn't understand him. understanding him is understanding herself. caring for him is caring for herself. and then she's awful to him because she doesn't understand and doesn't want to understand. and he's rejectful of her because she's got so many traits that are for the worse and not for the better. their similarities don't hurt nearly as much as what their differencee impale them with. it will always be what katniss could be (haymitch), and what haymitch prevented/could've been (katniss.)

#“haymitch treats katniss a certain way because he sees himself in her”#which is true!#haymitch objectively is tough on her in ways he would've been with himself #and he cares for her because he sees what wounds she has and knows that support and care will slowly patch them #he's dismissive of her often and doubtful and a little cruel tongued when it comes to her #but it always circles back to a fondness and love #katniss constantly rips the patches off. she isn't trying to understand his care or wants it inherently #she treats him surface level. he goes under the iceberg and they both find things they don't like #she's prejudiced to him because of his outside traits. she waits until she's forcefully sucked into his real face to be sympathetic #haymitch knows her real face. which looks an awful lot like his and *feels* like his to the point where he projects onto her #but she's different. and it's again the empathy/lacking empathy conversation and such #i could bring up every moment of their agrees/disagrees and the times where they tear each other down #but the thing is that it's not JUST because they're the same. it's because they're so different and still HAVE similarities #haymitch abernathy #katniss everdeen #the hunger games #thg #catching fire #mockingjay #the hunger games trilogy #thg analysis

So I remember talking to this person and she was basically saying “If it takes Bakugou dying to redeem himself then he’s done too much.” But it doesn’t take Bakugou dying this is just who he is… am I wrong?

i wouldn't take any bakugou anti's argument to heart. the fact of the matter is that bakugou was a childhood bully who grew up and bettered himself. it's like, one of the tamest, most normal redemption arcs ever. he didn't even have to die to complete it, he's just that devoted to deku. which in itself should say enough about his development

#'bakugou being a dipshit asshole bully from ages 5 to 14' is not nearly 'doing too much'. and certainly does not deserve death #the truth of the matter is. people overhate bkg bc his 'crimes' are the most tangible and relatable to the audience #objectively speaking there are way more characters in mha who have done far worse than him #but most people can't relate to more heinous crimes - they probably haven't lost someone to a mass murderer for example #but they CAN relate to knowing a dumb idiot kid from middle school #a lot of bkg antis project onto deku so it's likely due to a personal grudge they have against their own childhood bully #that they haven't gotten over and so they can't accept deku getting over it. bc they can't accept deku not acting like them #ppl just really don't like seeing bkdk as characters with their own arcs. to them bkdk are self-inserts #the self-insertification of midoriya izuku by dudebros must be studied... the revenge fantasies they cook up... it's fascinating #anyway i wouldn't worry about it too much #asks for becki

The most toxic man alive but also a very well trusted and respectable boss and leader of the Zodiac.

I like that Diluc is designed as the romantic interest of some 1990's josei manga about a plucky heroine's journey, from his role in the story to his personality, and, yes, to the feminine, too-skinny-to-wield-that-sword looks.

abuse / trauma obviously isn’t an excuse for behavior and we see that notion applied (rightfully so most of the time) in fandom but i feel like in catra’s case you really can’t remove her suffering when analyzing why her redemption is written the way it is. she’s abused interpersonally and systematically as a child soldier from toddler age and it warps her perception of every relationship in her life to the point where she isolates herself to extreme degrees to the point that she’s consistently on the brink of a mental breakdown. yes she treats people like garbage yes she makes horrible decisions but her case is like…very extreme. and that’s not to necessarily play trauma olympics with characters in other pieces of media but i feel like people kind of downplay how that factors into her reasoning and also sort of forget how young she is throughout her entire story, flashbacks and all. so obviously the show is gonna have the good guys extend sympathy and not have her prove her worth. (which is one of the main ideas that messed her up in the first place) her arc needed more time but I think it’s unnecessary to devalue it just because the characters aren’t mad at her for as long as you want them to be, they offer her love and support as she exists but still don’t excuse or enable poor behavior and don’t allow her to be in their lives and make morally corrupt decisions. anyway ik it’s 2024 but that’s something I’ve thought for a while

#it also wasn’t ooc with how it went nor is that said often so i think it’s a lot of audience projection #and i mean that in the sense that people project what they would do onto a character or they think certain storylines should fit in a box #or it equals glorification #relationships are messy #ofc glimmer & adora who either have that shared traumatic upbringing or see themselves in her would forgive catra #and adora also just loves catra a lot but you get the point)#like idk i enjoy when stories play out in a way that are indicative of the characters background personalities etc rather than #‘objectively speaking this character did x y z they should at least take 5 episodes to forgive them.’#Bc it creates a more nuanced story but also obviously there are certain topics that do need to be written in a more strict manner #catradora #catra #she ra #spop #bree talks

i am a firm believer in that akasha is marius' mother figure and their relationship is intentionally meant to parallel him and his human mother

oh no, i established myself as Capable Of and Willing To Perform some minor annoying administrative tasks at work and now am being tossed additional requests to perform said tasks

i know that in a strict financial view it makes sense to spend 20 minutes of junior engineer time on mundane-annoying-task than 20 minutes of senior staff engineer time but have you considered: I Don't Like It

#something i am pondering whether it is wise or worthwhile to communicate #my internal terminology is 'I'll do it for a Scooby snack' 'this is a two Scooby snack request minimum“#this is not what i articulate externally. yet .#the upside is learning how to use a variety of different systems and making connections with more people #both in a human to human perspective and in a like #the downside is I'm Being Asked To Do Things That Are Annoying.#there's also a like. gendered aspect of this that rubs me the wrong way a little #in so many mech eng spaces I've seen a tendency for organizational/logistical/annoying work to be disproportionately uptaken by women #women (and bosch) (trans)#getting clocked as trans for my object-organizing + project management + administrative task tendencies. or something.#the tendency maybe esp of senior engineers to consider the organization/admin/logistics not ...
